You're listening to a message to go from at church.
-
We hope this message will light up your day.
-
Today.
-
I've got another title, all right, but I believe the
-
Lord is leading us, you know, in a similar way,
-
all right, from last week and this week. So but
-
then the title today is suffering. How many of you
-
like that topic suffering that all may know.
-
Hey, so.
-
This word sounds like a painful negative word. You see
-
the picture I put there, So crown of thorns is
-
pain is you know, difficulty is, sorrow is you know, hurt.
-
But you know, I want to tell you this, and
-
many of you probably know this, suffering is part and
-
partial of being a follower of Jesus. Right the moment
-
you decided to follow Jesus, you want to be Christian,
-
you embraced it.
-
I'm going to suffer. I'm going to suffer, all right.
-
But the difference is when you say that, you're saying
-
I'm going to suffer for good. I'm going to suffer
-
for joy. I'm going to suffer for good things. So
-
it's actually a joyful thing because the world will say
-
I suffer for bad. I suffer and I get depressed
-
and I go down, and it's all doom and gloom.
-
When the world talks about suffering, it's darkness, it's sorrow,
-
it's hopelessness. But as a follow of Jesus, when we
-
talk about suffering, we have hope. When we talk about suffering,
-
we see light, all right. At the end of the
-
tunnel is hope. It's good, it's resurrection. So you see,
-
when you follow Jesus, you're able to embrace suffering, and
-
you are able to have joy in suffering and have
-
hope in suffering. So that's the big difference that people
-
who follow Jesus have, all right, compared to the rest
-
of many other people, you know, the rest of mankind.
-
So hallelujah. So when you see the word suffering, smile.
-
Is part on package of what it is to be
-
a Christian, all right, it's all over the Bible. Jesus
-
tells us we're going to suffer, all right. Paul tells us,
-
you'll suffer, all right, like I have suffered.
-
All right.
-
Not that not that trying to curse you, but it's
-
just telling you the truth. Now, let's let's look at
-
you a little bit more. Okay, Now, let's read some scripture.
-
Book of Exodus, chapter one, verse twelve. Right, so some
-
of these verses I put on the screen. Some longer
-
ones probably try and read from the Bible. Okay, yeah,
-
let's look at Exodus. You want to turn your Bible
-
as well? You can because you know, so he's good exercise,
-
isn't it?
-
Uh?
-
Kind of like actually flip the Bible. I challenge myself.
-
I feel challenged, like do I know where the pages are?
-
You know? Okay?
-
Exdu is quite an obvious book, not too difficult to find.
-
Suddenly you go like nayr Aimus. If you're like flipping
-
and flipping, flipping, now, might look at the indexes. Fine, right,
-
it's okay, no pressure, no pressure, no one would judge you.
-
And look at it. It's kind of looking at an indexer.
-
How long been Christian?
-
Already?
-
Yeah, so don't feel stress. It's okay even if you're
-
a long time Christian. Still okay to look at the
-
index all right. Now, Exodus chapter one, twelve, he says here,
-
but the more they will oppress, the more they multiplied,
-
and the more they spread abroad. And the Egyptians were
-
in dread of the people of Israel. So this is
-
the story of you know, they were slaves. People of
-
God were slaves in Egypt, and you know, they were
-
made to do work, right, and so they were oppressed.
-
They were what's oppressed meaning I think they were given
-
a lot of work that they can't handle, and they
-
it's more than they can handle. And they were pushed
-
and they were beaten, probably made to work that way, right,
-
in an inhumane way. So but then you see what
-
happened was when they were oppressed, all right, other versions
-
in your Bible might say afflicted.
-
Right, when they were afflicted.
-
But then the more they multiplied, So the more suffering
-
you put upon someone, right, especially in terms of God's people,
-
good things will happen.
-
They will multiply even more. Right.
-
I don't know what is it that caused them to
-
multiply more because they so stress on it.
-
Just make more babies, I don't know what is it?
-
All right? Interesting?
-
Right, the more they spread abroad abroad, okay, right, and
-
the Egyptians, and it struck fear in the Egyptians. They
-
wanted to oppress them, but then it caused them to
-
have more fear. Right, so they were more afraid of
-
them because they multiplied, they grew, right, Then I want
-
you to remember that we're oppressed, all right, afflicted that
-
Exodus chapter three, verse seven was saying. Then the Lord said,
-
I have surely seen the affliction of my people who
-
are in Egypt, and have heard their crime because of
-
their task masters.
-
I know their sufferings.
-
So the Lord sees if you've been oppressed, you've been afflicted.
-
He sees, I have surely seen it that the affliction
-
of my people, and the and the Lord hears your
-
cry when you're going through pain and suffering, you're going
-
through affliction.
-
You've been oppressed. The Lord hears your cry.
-
Right, some of us here we go, we're going through
-
some difficulty, some suffering. I don't know what suffering you're
-
going through. Could be family situation, could be studies. Feel
-
so stressed, your feel can't you can't do it. You
-
feel like you don't understand what you're learning. The project
-
and assignment is bigger than your brain can handle it. Right,
-
that's all suffering. Right when you you know some of
-
us are thinking, you know, how can I be a
-
Christian in my workplace, in my school?
-
All right?
-
When everyone is so flashly, so worldly, and they they
-
speak a different language than what you know. The Word
-
of God does, and so how do I live out
-
and should be a light in the darkness here because
-
people will persecute me. Maybe they haven't even persecuted you,
-
but just your mind thinking they're gonna make fun of me.
-
They're gonna, you know, put me down. All right.
-
So some of these things here, you're whatever you're you're
-
going through, the Lord hears you. The Lord sees it,
-
all right. Tell your neighbor that the Lord sees it.
-
The Lord hears your cry.
-
Man. Okay.
-
So now these two versus, just study a little bit.
-
Affliction oppressed, all right. So I did a bit of
-
just to understand. The word affliction is the word, and
-
so in the Hebrew affliction like this onie ony all right.
-
Affliction is the way I did put the Hebrew word there.
-
But it sounds like this ony, okay. And the word
-
means the word only means poverty, misery, affliction, okay. So
-
it could be poverty, maybe you don't have enough, you're struggling,
-
and whatever it is that's that you're going through. It
-
causes you misery, you're down. Could be sickness as well, right,
-
makes you feel ah so tired? Right, uh, And that's affliction.
-
But then I went, you know, I like to do
-
this when I I use the Blue Letter Bible website,
-
and then many times they will put the word and
-
then they will say there's a root word. There's a
-
root word, So I will click on the root word
-
to just because you know, interesting to to learn. So anyway,
-
the root word root word for Onnie is Anna. Okay, right,
-
So Anna has this meaning to be kept busy by oppression.
-
So the Israelites were oppressed right by the Egyptians. Kept busy,
-
but then you're busy still can have a little babies, okay.
-
Put down, depressed, downcast, bowed down, humiliates it.
-
How many of you are here?
-
You have gone through humiliation and made you very angry
-
or sad, all right. Humble is the other word. And
-
weakened that's the root word one, the root word here.
-
Anna has to do it, you know, kept busy by oppression,
-
put down by whatever it is? All right, Maybe you
-
try to do something, you try to live out your
-
life as a believer, and then people put you down,
-
make fun of you. Right, it's affliction. It's oppression, all right.
-
So everyone doing okay, so far right?
-
Right?
-
But then interesting this is the first time I've seen this.
-
When I click on the thing blue letter right, give
-
me the root word, Then suddenly there is a identical
-
root word.
-
It says, I've never seen this before. It is new
-
to me.
-
Same exact Hebrew letters Anna right there. You can check
-
it out yourself later blue letter Bible right, honey. Anna
-
then has two means. There's two meanings, two words. Identical
-
root word Anna has to do with this to answer,
-
to respond, to testify, to speak, to shout, to respond
-
as a witness, to.
-
Sing, to utter tunefully.
-
Doesn't sound similar, right the meaning suddenly suffering, oppression, down, humble, humiliation,
-
And then suddenly the same exact word means to answer,
-
to have the answer all right. Sometimes that's all you need.
-
And that's why we go through suffering, and that's why
-
we go through affliction, because then we'll have an answer.
-
It's God real, of course, it's real. I've been through
-
it and He's delivered me. I've got an answer. The
-
word searching for an answer, and through your suffering, through
-
the affliction that you go through, you will have an answer.
-
You will have an answer, all right. You'll be able
-
to respond to live's questions. Testify, speak, and you will
-
have a song when you sing, you really sing.
-
When you sing, it's real. You know, it's not just
-
I'm just trying to you know, I'm not pis practicing.
-
It's real stuff.
-
Because harley lujah, thank you Lord, you have delivered me
-
from my affliction.
-
Right. So, how many of you here think about it?
-
All right? You're going through some affliction.
-
You're going through some dificulty, all right, some of you
-
when when I when I look at you, some of
-
your trouble, your problems look bigger than others, all right.
-
But you know, the bigger your problem, the bigger your God, hallelujah,
-
the bigger your testimony, all right, So don't worry even
-
if you have a small problem, okay, no wordy is
-
just practice starting and you will get bigger.
-
Problems, all right. This prophisying according to the word of God,
-
all right.
-
And it's not suffering, for to put you down is suffering.
-
So that you have a testimony is suffering, so that
-
there's hope, there's joy, Amen, hallelujah. Everyone doing all right.
-
I was so blessed just learning about this. Like the
-
word affliction has to do with singing, and you know,
-
having an answer right now, let's I want to read
-
the book of Jeremiah. Jeremiah. I'm reading Jeremiah right now
-
with my children or.
-
So and uh I thank god, you know, uh Ezra.
-
Ezra is my second boy. He has found a little
-
bit more interest in reading the Bible. He wakes up
-
and tries to read the Bible at least two chapters
-
a day, and he says, I want to finish reading
-
the Bible. It says that to me. Uh and uh.
-
So he went for camp recently in some in campar
-
some camlin. All right, he has to pitch a ten
-
and everything with his friends. We trusted let them go,
-
two of them. Ju don Ezra. They just came back yesterday.
-
Then he was, uh. We were packing and then he said,
-
respect my bible. Wow, prespect my Bible to camp.
-
Man. I tell you, no, I don't know. Wish I dout.
-
We even packed a Bible to the camp all right,
-
because it's tank got river and everything. Right, just you know,
-
you don't want to destroy the Bible. So he said,
-
please pack my bible. We packed it in the morning,
-
at night packed it. Then already next morning he says,
-
where's my Bible? He takes out the Bible, reads reads
-
in the morning before going. Then he left it in
-
the house and forgot to bring Then I was driving.
-
Then he's like, oh, I think I forgot my Bible.
-
Then like I didn't.
-
I wasn't easy on him because I was like what
-
because in the morning keep asking me for games, you see,
-
like can I pay the game? Then I took that
-
opportunity and say, like, what are you thinking was games?
-
You left your Bible?
-
All week? You been telling me you want to read
-
the Bible of the camp. And I felt so.
-
Good in a sense, like if you bring your Bible
-
to camp and you open it up in front of
-
all the adults there and show them a kid is
-
reading a Bible, it would have been wonderful, isn't it?
-
But it's okay, never mind, so sorry. Yeah, he had
-
the what's the weather? The desire, he had the desire
-
to want to do it. So now he's back, I say, okay,
-
I'll continue. Awesome, Okay, anyway back to Jeremiah twenty. Let's
-
read that. All right, you have the Bibles, you open
-
up as well. I'll I'm thinking of reading the whole thing. Wow, Keller,
-
let's read now. Pasture. The priest, the son of Immer,
-
who was chief officer in the House of the Lord,
-
heard Jeremiah prophesy these things. Then Passure beat Jeremiah the
-
prophet and put him in the stocks that were in
-
the upper Benjamin gate of the House of the Lord.
-
The next day, when Pashor released Jeremiah from the stocks,
-
Jeremiah said to him, the Lord does not call your
-
name Pashur, but terror on every side.
-
For thus says the Lord.
-
Behold, I will make you a terror to yourself and
-
to all your friends. Friends, they shall fall by the
-
sword of their.
-
Enemies while you look on.
-
And I will give all Judah into the hand of
-
the King of Babylon. He shall carry them captive to
-
Babylon and shall strike them down with the sword. Moreover,
-
I will give all the wealth of the city, all
-
its gains, all its price belongings, and all the treasures
-
of the kings of Judah into the hand of their enemies,
-
who shall plunder them and seize them and carry them
-
to Babylon. And you passure, and all who dwell in
-
the house shall go into captivity.
-
To Babylon.
-
You shall go, and there you shall die, and there
-
you shall be buried you and all your friends to
-
whom you have prophesied falsely. Okay, now have we read
-
here suddenly your poetry here? Oh Lord, you have deceived me.
-
This is Jeremiah so contrasting right way he's speaking. He's like,
-
you passure, are You're gonna des He's like, oh Lord,
-
you have deceived me, and I was deceived.
-
You are stronger than I, and you have prevailed. I
-
have become a laughing stock all the day. Everyone mocks me.
-
For whoever I speak, Sorry, whenever I speak, I cry out.
-
I shout violence and destruction. For the word of the
-
Lord has.
-
Become for me a reproach and derision all day long.
-
I'll say, I will not mention him or speak anymore
-
in his name. There is in my heart, as it were,
-
a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I
-
am weary with holding it in. And I cannot. He
-
cannot hold in the word of God. For I hear
-
many whispering. Terror is on every side. Denounce him. Let
-
us denounce him, Say all my close friends watching for
-
my fall, close friendsh Perhaps he will be deceived, then
-
we can overcome him and take our revenge on him.
-
But the Lord is with me as a dread sorry,
-
as a trade warrior. Is that correct? Okay?
-
Therefore my persecutors will stumble. They will not overcome me.
-
They will be greatly shamed, for they will not succeed
-
their eternal dishonor will never be forgiven or forgotten. Sorry,
-
Oh Lord, Oh Lord of hosts, who tests the righteous,
-
who sets the heart and the mind, Let me see
-
your vengeance upon them.
-
To you have I committed my cause? Sing to the Lord.
-
Praise the Lord, for he has delivered the life of
-
the needy from the head from the hand of evil.
-
Do us curse be the day, suddenly, curse be the
-
day on which I was born, the day when my
-
mother bore me.
-
Let it not be blessed. Wow, cursed be the man
-
who brought the news to my father.
-
A son is born to you, making him very glad.
-
Let that man be like the cities that the Lord
-
overthrow without pity. Let him hear a cry in the
-
morning and an alarm at noon, because he did not
-
kill me, my word in the world, Who can do that?
-
So? My mother would have been my grave and a
-
womb forever. Great? Wow, this shows this very very upset
-
very sad.
-
Why did I come out from the womb to see
-
toil and sorrow and spend my days in shame? All
-
I wanted to read this is because I wanted us
-
to see how how down he was, how humiliated he was,
-
the emotions that he showed. So if any of us
-
he'll ever feel so down, we can relate, and we
-
can see that the man of.
-
God, Jeremiah was also so humble, you know, so sad,
-
so depressed.
-
All right, And if any of you ever prayed prayers
-
like this, I mean, that's what Jeremiah prayed to. So
-
let's look at it a little bit from the top
-
of this verse chapter here. So he was preaching the
-
word of God, he was prophesying, he was, you know,
-
in a way talking about judgment on them, and they
-
were not happy. And so passure priests took him, took
-
Jeremiah and beat him the word. You'll beat b eighties
-
just fall like as your beat. But if you look
-
at it, how bad it was. Apparently it could have
-
been thirty nine lashes, right, some people say Jesus went
-
through that as well, thirty nine lascies maybe, all right,
-
say I was Roman, right, But this is Jewish. So
-
they only why they do thirty nine is because forty
-
is too much, So mynus one discount.
-
That's what they say.
-
All right, so thirty nine is all stop, Okay, don't
-
kill him. That's but thirty nine lashes. I don't know
-
how you know, the whips were but he got beaten.
-
Not only that, Uh, he was put in a stock.
-
They call it. What is a stock?
-
It's a device to torture, to make you.
-
It's kind of teach you a lesson.
-
And so you kind of like twist your body in
-
a way and you as you are stuck there, all right,
-
or in a way you you you get there's not
-
much space to move, and so you're banned, and so
-
it will cost you a lot of pain.
-
And they put they put.
-
Him at the temple so it's visible in a way.
-
It's kind of like teaching this person a lesson and
-
show the public that don't do like this. He's talking nonsense,
-
his prophesying nonsense. That's what they're trying to say. You know,
-
he's lying or whatever it is. And so uh then
-
if you look at it, it says pasture.
-
You know, out of his kindness, let him go.
-
Oh, Okay, Jeremiah, come on, I'm so kind, all right,
-
let you go, so don't do it again in a way.
-
But then Jeremiah turns to him and says, you he will.
-
He promised that even more. And he says, you're gonna
-
get it, man, all right, the Lord's gonna give it
-
to you and you and your friends, all your lives,
-
you know, or your lying prophecies.
-
And so.
-
You see again oppression and affliction and suffering won't stop
-
people of God.
-
Amen.
-
And you look at his poetry. He says, I tried
-
not to. I really didn't want to. But then the
-
word of God burns inside my heart. And if you
-
have the word of God in your heart, it will
-
burn and you will speak it out, all right, and
-
you will not be able to hold it in. He says,
-
It's like it is in my bones. I cannot, you know,
-
but say it and tell the truth.
-
Amen. So oh uh, what else here? Yeah?
-
So the point here is our suffering gives us a
-
story to tell. Our suffering gives us a story to tell.
-
All right, some of us here we're going through affliction,
-
like we mentioned earlier.
-
But what is it for? What is it for? Is
-
so that we have a story.
-
You know, if we don't go through these things, we
-
don't have much to say, all right, Our speech, our
-
language is surface.
-
We have to look for things to talk.
-
About, all right, talk about the weather and football or whatever.
-
Right, it's still a nice talk about but right sports?
-
Uh?
-
And but when you have a story because of your affliction,
-
when do someone ask you how are you? Your answer
-
will be loaded. You want to know how I am?
-
Let me tell you, let me tell you, let me
-
tell you what God has done in my life. You
-
will be able to say it and you have because
-
you have the word of God with your story, and
-
it will be an explosion, all right. And when they
-
hear your story, like I don't know whether I should
-
have asked it by thank you for sharing, because maybe
-
they they too are going through that, They are going
-
through something as well. Everyone goes through something, right, But
-
just that a lot of people don't know where to
-
look to. But when we answer, as people of God,
-
we have an answer, Anna, right, Anna, we have an
-
answer through our affliction, through our pain, we have an answer,
-
and we have a story.
-
We have a song to sing. Amen.
-
Right, those of you who are hoping to we songwritere
-
you have a problem, you have a challenge. You'll be
-
right awesome songs. Your lyrics will be loaded. Amen, hallelujah.
-
So our suffering gives us a story to tell. Now
-
let's move on. Jesus tells us that he must suffer.
-
He says that, all right, let's read a few scriptures here. Okay,
-
all right, it's on the screen. You can turn to
-
it if you want to or so. But mark chapter
-
eight thirty one. And he began to teach them that
-
the son of Man must suffer, everyone say, must suffer
-
many things, and be rejected by the elders and the
-
chief priests, and describes, and be killed, and after three
-
days rise again. If there's no kill, if there's no death,
-
there's no resurrection. Right, So Jesus had to go through it.
-
Muss.
-
Okay, we go on next verse X twenty six, twenty
-
two to twenty three. Here says, to this day, I
-
have had the help that comes from God. And so
-
I stand here testifying both too small and great, saying
-
nothing but what the prophets and Moses said would come
-
to pass. That the Christ must suffer, everyone saying, must suffer,
-
and that by being the first to rise from the dead,
-
he would proclaim light both to our people and to
-
the gentiles. So again he had no choice, but he
-
had to suffer. Suffering, like I said from the beginning,
-
is part and package of our life as people who
-
follow Jesus. If our Lord Jesus went through suffering, we
-
follow Jesus right, So we also are ready or must
-
be ready, to go through suffering. All right, I mean,
-
by God's grace, we may not have to go through
-
the same as him yet, but you know, the more
-
we walk with Him, the more we should be ready,
-
you know, for affliction, for suffering a man, and but
-
then through again. Like I said, our affliction is a
-
blessed one, is a hopeful one. Is something we can
-
actually look forward to, is something wonderful?
-
Yeah, all right, some.
-
More Scripture Hebrews Hebrews four fifteen. For we do not
-
have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with
-
our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been
-
tempted as we are. Yet without saying so, Jesus went
-
through suffering and affliction because he it helped him to
-
be able to sympathize with us. So when we go
-
through affliction. He's not like, I don't know what you're feeling.
-
I don't know what you're going through. But he knows
-
because he also went through such a horrible pain and suffering.
-
So when you pray to God, you pray to Jesus.
-
He knows what you're going through. He knows what you're feeling,
-
and he can feel the same way you feel because
-
he's gone through it. And more amen, he has died
-
and resurrected. And he didn't just die a quick dath.
-
Some of us like, oh Lord, give me a quick dath,
-
or that I don't feel it. I me and my
-
brother talked like that before, all right, But but he
-
went through a slow death. It was painful, right, Nail
-
to the cross, hands and feet, And I want to
-
bring up one more thing here.
-
You know, some of us here we need to be.
-
We need our hands and our feet in a sense
-
nailed to the cross because it helps us to stop sinning.
-
You know, that's what we call limits right now.
-
Sometimes many of us we are free to do anything
-
we like, go anywhere we like, or fee can walk
-
anywhere we like. But that's why Jesus had to get
-
nailed on the cross. All right on, behalf of our sin.
-
So nail to the cross can't walk one all right.
-
Hence nail to the cross can't simply do anything moving
-
on Matthew sixteen was they say here and Jesus told
-
us his disciples, if anyone would come after me, let
-
him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.
-
If anyone says I want to follow Jesus, let him
-
deny himself, take up his cross, take up his cross.
-
The cross represents suffering, all right. The cross represents death.
-
Death to self, and follow him. Follow him in every way,
-
not just the nice things. Follow him even through the cross.
-
For whoever would save his life will lose it. But
-
whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.
-
Amen.
-
Amen, then, Luke Chapter fourteen, whoever does not bear his
-
own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple.
-
I want to be a disciple of Jesus, that I
-
need to be able to bare my cross and come
-
after him.
-
Otherwise, he says so clearly, you cannot.
-
If you don't bear your own cross and don't follow him,
-
you cannot be my disciple.
-
Strong words from Jesus. Then one more, just one more.
-
Then I'm gonna well give us the next point here, believed,
-
do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it
-
upon you to test you as those something strange were
-
happening to you, But rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings.
-
As you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice
-
and be glad when his glory is revealed. Yeah, I
-
was suffering, ends up in joy and glory. Okay delivered.
-
Do not be surprised at the fiery trial?
-
Is that sorry? Next? Peter? Yeah? Is there? It's also Peter. Yeah, right,
-
this is one.
-
If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you
-
are blessed.
-
Ah.
-
If you're insulted, then you're blessed because the spirit of
-
glory and of God rests upon you. But let none
-
of you suffer as a murderer telling you you'ret to suffer.
-
Don't suffer.
-
Yeah, this way suffer being insulted for Christ is blessed.
-
But don't suffer as a murderer. Right, doing bad things
-
that he suffered, He suffering for Jesus. Away. Okay.
-
There are different ways of suffering. There are different kinds
-
of suffering. Okay, there's a righteous suffering. And then there's
-
the sinful suffering, right as a murderer or a thief,
-
or an evildoer, or as a meddler. Yet if anyone
-
suffers as a Christian, so clear, let him not be ashamed,
-
but let him glorify God in that name.
-
Amen. Amen.
-
So what does this say here? Our suffering tells us
-
who we are. Our suffering gives us our identity. We
-
identify with Christ through suffering. So if you're going through affliction,
-
it's about how you go through it. Yeah, I mean
-
you go through affliction. Actually a lot of others also
-
do it, go through it, But how do we do it?
-
We go through it through Christ. We go through it
-
by faith, Okay, we go through it with hope.
-
Yeah.
-
So when your friends see you going through difficulty, but
-
then you're able to able to pray about it all right,
-
You're able to use God's word over it. And also
-
you have the church that comes, you know, around and
-
come together. You have homes, you have fellow believers that
-
come together and support.
-
So that's the difference.
-
And so our suffering tells us who we are, that
-
we are followers of Jesus and we are Christians. Amen.
-
Now finally we're going to close. Let's talk about Joseph
-
for a while. We talked about Joseph last week as well,
-
but now Joseph. You know, Joseph had a dream, right,
-
and then he told his brothers his family, and then
-
they sold him into slavery. And so when he went
-
through that, all his dreams seemed to be crushed to
-
the ground.
-
Like what happened?
-
I thought, I was, you know, gonna be a great person,
-
and they're gonna bow down to me and everything. Now
-
I'm far away from a family, you know, and I'm
-
in slavery. And so he went through one after another affliction, right,
-
sold the slavery.
-
Worked, and then God.
-
Accused, falsely accused, and then he went to prison, and
-
in prison he was forgotten right, right, he told this guy, right,
-
is it the cut barrel or the baker?
-
You know?
-
And then they forgot him, right, he interpreted their dreams,
-
and so he was left in prison for so long,
-
and then but finally he got out, right, by God's orchestration,
-
he gets out, and then anally the dream comes true.
-
He becomes the leader of Egypt and manages the whole famine, right,
-
and then his brothers come and then they finally bowed
-
on to him. Right, So, but he had to go
-
through pain and affliction. Joseph, what's the whole point there?
-
All right?
-
I want to tell you also, uh, well, the point
-
is our suffering prepares us. Our suffering prepares you the storyteller.
-
You have a story. You go through suffering, you have
-
a story, right, But the suffering also prepares you to
-
be able to live out what God has destined for
-
you to do.
-
Right.
-
We all need preparation, we all need to be prepared.
-
Joseph's a dreamer. He was the young young guy, right,
-
and he got a colorful code and things like that.
-
He was like spoiled, right.
-
His daddy loved him so much, and then all his
-
brothers were so jealous of him, and so he needed
-
to be prepared. He couldn't have fulfilled that dream of
-
being the leader to help with the famine if he
-
wasn't prepared that way. So he had to go through
-
that suffering. He had to go through the slavery. He
-
had to go through a prison.
-
Some of you here, you're at.
-
Your workplaces, you're in your studies, you feel like you're
-
in slavery.
-
Yeah, exactly.
-
We need to go through it all, right, some of
-
you you're going through right, you feel like you're in prison, right,
-
sometimes even in church, sometimes you were in church, right.
-
Many of us don't like it when we have to
-
go through discipleship when we have to you know, maybe
-
at homes or maybe you know, why were you doing right?
-
I give you example, right extreme. We have a song pool.
-
We call it a song pool. And that's why you're
-
singing the same songs. Okay, okay, sing the same songs
-
because some of you don't even know the songs even
-
though sing so many times, right if I shut the
-
lyrics and can't remember not by anyway, What I'm trying
-
to say is that we have a worship past us office.
-
We speak together, and we decided let's have a song
-
pool for like three months something like that, and so
-
there'll be songs selected, you know, by different worship leaders
-
from all across the church plants, and so some it's
-
you know, sometimes it's preference, right. I like the sound
-
of this song, I like the words of this song.
-
But it's a song pool. And so sometimes once in
-
a while, one worship leader will say, hey, I really
-
feel like I need to do this song. It's outside
-
of the song pool, and so goodla. At least he
-
tries to be accountable. So he comes back to the
-
worship pastor's office and says, hey, what do you think
-
about this? Sometimes the Worship pastor's office will say it's okay,
-
you know, of course it's suitable for whatever that is
-
going on right now. Yeah, But many times we just say, hey,
-
stick to the song pool because we took time to
-
look through the songs, you know, the selection, because we
-
don't just sing any song. You understand, right, Yeah, it
-
will be long explanation, but you understand.
-
It's it's we look at the words.
-
And sometimes some songwriters they write the song and in
-
contact with the situation they're going through there, and suddenly
-
you bring it in all the way. It sounds nice,
-
it doesn't relate, and we'll be looking at it.
-
What are they singing about?
-
And so we look through it and we try to
-
be careful, all right, and so that's why we have
-
a song pool. But sometimes, you know, many times, all right,
-
someone will sally come and say I want to do
-
another song, and then we say, you know, there's a
-
lot of songs in a song pool.
-
Right, let's choose one from there.
-
I think, thank you for the suggestion you want to
-
sing this song, but maybe we'll we'll consider it in
-
the next song.
-
Pool, Can we all right? Like do you really need
-
to sing it now? Now? Now? Right? By someone there?
-
Go like, but I feel like the Holy Spirit telling
-
me we must sing this now, like wow.
-
I mean the worship pastors will be like, I guess
-
the Holy Spirit is not talking to us. I mean, yeah, sensitive,
-
but we will say like, oh, thank you for that.
-
But I guess yeah, in terms of discipleship, sometimes we
-
would just say not to say, we don't want to
-
sing the song, but let's consider it for the next song.
-
Poll all right, can you you? Can you be okay
-
with that?
-
And sometimes when the song is suitable, we do say, okay,
-
let's do it. All right, So just to show you
-
an example, And so it's like, you feel like, what
-
putting me in prison? I feel like suffering?
-
All right? What are these leaders doing to me? Okay?
-
Uh, But that's that's part of it, isn't it. Right,
-
That's that's the sufferinger, right, And I mean trust trust us.
-
The w p O is not here to put affliction
-
on anyone. We're not here to give pain to people,
-
all right. But there's some things that we're working on,
-
all right. And there's a reason for why we do
-
some things, all right. Same for many things that we
-
do here, all right. A lot of it has to
-
do with discipleship, accountability, all right, and so I'm sure
-
many of us here when you get an answer, all right,
-
when you have a question, you ask, and then some
-
of your leaders might say something that is not what
-
you thought they might say.
-
You go like why? Right?
-
You can definitely continue to ask questions and talk, but
-
understand that you know the heart of the leader.
-
Is good. Is that the right place? Right?
-
If you feel they are evil, pray for them, pray
-
for them, ask God.
-
To remove them or ever.
-
Okay, you feel that you feel that you need to
-
pray about, but there are reasons why we do that, right, Okay.
-
I want to say a little bit more about church planting,
-
because we're talking about that right store being a storehouse
-
to be a church plant Uh, it's it's it's an
-
act of faith when we church plants an next act
-
of faith. Let me tell you a few more things,
-
maybe relating to my own story. We used to be
-
only one plant in Subang Jaya, and all of a
-
sudden I was sent out to plant ex Cyberjaya. Those days,
-
I know none of you were here except Olivia maybe
-
Andrew later on. Uh you know there are some others
-
you know Katy, you know this there they've been around
-
as well.
-
Urg.
-
But when I first came, I came with a group
-
of people who were from Suban and we came.
-
He prayed. It sounded all exciting, all right.
-
I agreed, you know, I say okay, pastor thank you
-
for sending me out, kicking me out in other words.
-
From Subang.
-
So when I came, Uh, first Sunday was awesome because
-
all the Subang people came. They came, they sat feel
-
you know, like we had drums and everything is right,
-
full band and everything not here. Lie was where cyber
-
View Ladge or beautiful hotel? Yeah, we were there. Then cool.
-
The following Sunday, those guys didn't come anymore because they
-
went back to Subang. Subang still carrying, still running right
-
ex Subank at the time, and so the few of
-
us came to x Cyber and we then reality hit
-
like no one is really here. There's a few people
-
that was past. I think Pasaniki came maybe the next Yeah,
-
and so it's a small group and more and more reality,
-
you know, hit me. And then I felt like did
-
pussic Kenneth kicked.
-
Me out.
-
Of the church this way? Because I really felt it,
-
and uh my, and and I I felt down. I
-
felt down. I'm not sure whether I shared with many
-
people at the time, but it was like two ways now,
-
Like I felt like, I think, I guess you trust
-
pass the Kenneth. But then this is that a part
-
I felt like Jeremiah, you know, Jeremih is like oh Lord,
-
It's like, oh, like, oh I should have been dating
-
the womb all these kind of things, all right, I
-
felt both two pools, and so, uh yeah, I did
-
feel down. But you know, I think that was a process,
-
and I think it's such a good process that many
-
of us need to go through, you know, pain and
-
problems and trouble and then turning to God. But because
-
of what has happened, I needed to read the word
-
of God a little bit more. I needed to you know,
-
look to Jesus and step up in faith a.
-
Little bit more.
-
And I thank God, you know, right now, with many
-
of us here. I don't feel that way anymore. I
-
wonder who is the next person to feel that way?
-
When we send you out, then kick you out, start
-
another one. Right, same with homes, right homes, homes. You
-
all love your homes, your homes, all the people there.
-
One day someone's going to have to start a new
-
homes because the homes is so packed, so many people.
-
It's hard to grow. When you're twenty people in the house.
-
Your house can't fit that any people. So we need
-
to multiply, we need to start the new homes. And
-
so some of you may feel that way again, but
-
that's part of discipleship. That's part of what we're doing here. Yeah,
-
Harley Lujah. And so our suffering will prepare us, and
-
you know, you'll be a stronger person. You will be
-
a more faithful person. You will be a person with faith,
-
with more faith because you will need to look to Jesus.
-
You will need to pray a little bit more.
-
We hope you've been blessed by this message. For more
