Good evening. Welcome to Voice in the Wilderness. I'm Don Noble of Pure
-
Heart Ministries, and I welcome you today with exceedingly abundantly and overflowing joy.
-
Tonight is part three of Be Still, And of course, if you've been
-
listening the last couple weeks, I'm talking about a scripture Psal. I'm forty
-
six y ten. Be still and know that I am God. As I
-
mentioned, it's the simplicity of a scripture that has the most profound effect on
-
his spiritually. This is a very simple scripture that you could just blow on
-
by, but there's so much meat in this scripture. Now, last week
-
part two, I was a little forceful, maybe for some of you,
-
a bit too forceful. But don't make the mistake of calling me judgmental.
-
I am a passionate person when it comes to the Word of God, and
-
I know better than most that I am quite the fallible person. So if
-
you thought I was being too harsh last week, here's my defense. This
-
is Isaiah fifty eight to one. Cry aloud, spare not lift up your
-
voice like a trumpet, tell my people their transgression. God has given me
-
a voice like a trumpet. I'm not ashamed of that, and that voice
-
is to sound the alarm. So that's what I intend to do. See,
-
I'm committed to the Lord for this year of twenty twenty four that I
-
not only want to speak His truth, but that my life has to be
-
a true representation of the Gospel. The apostle Paul says this in Second Corinthians
-
three three. Clearly you are an epistle written letter of Christ, ministered by
-
us, not with pen and ink, but by the spirit of the Living
-
God, not on tablets of stone, but on tablets of flesh, that
-
is of the heart. Let me translate that for you in simple terms.
-
Wherever I go, wherever I am present, in my home, in my
-
workplace, in the grocery store, in the bank, it's as if you
-
could see a tattoo on my heart, and it says I belong to God,
-
I'm his And everyone who sees me reads that and they know I'm God's
-
girl. But really they can't see that tattooed message on my heart. But
-
see Christ in my demeanor, in my actions, and in my words.
-
In other words, I'm a walking mirror of That's not just me, that's
-
you say this, say I'm a walking letter of Christ. Yeah, that's
-
what Secwod Corinthians three three says that we are a walking letter, a walking
-
epistle, and that we are God's letter to us and his word. It's
-
on tablets of flesh. Yeah, on our heart and on our spirit.
-
But you say, Dawn, I'm not even close to that. You know
-
what, It's okay, it's okay. Sanctification is a process for all of
-
us, you know. It's little by little, don't be so hard on
-
yourself. Little by little, we start letting go of this world and its
-
pleasures, and we start apprehending the kingdom life, the spirit of God in
-
you and I begins this glorious transformation. I like to call it the nuclear
-
bomb effect. When a nuclear bomb is dropped on a city, everything that
-
was no longer is think Nagasaki Hiroshima nineteen forty five. There are no remnants
-
of the past. Everything is destroyed. In fact, you can't make heads
-
or tails of anything that was once there. That's what the born again experience
-
should be like. All the old habits, all the old ways, and
-
all the old talk gone forever. Now the new man emerges and he has
-
to learn the ways of God. That bring fresh life and vitality and purpose
-
and direction. Unfortunately, this process takes a while to manifest the character of
-
Christ. Remember my first message for twenty TI twenty four, it was I
-
press on. I'm forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead.
-
That's what Paul wrote in Philippians III. And I press on to receive the
-
heavenly price prize. That means you are pressing on. That means you are
-
forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead. Amen. Now,
-
part of the pressing on requires the being still part. If you try to
-
skip that part, it will be detrimental to your walk and you'll end up
-
like many Christians who walk most of the time in their flesh. I don't
-
They don't have a clear understanding of what walking in the spirit is all about.
-
Now, I ended last week's message talking about repentance and in the time
-
of being still, that's what we've been talking about. This is the third
-
week of being still. A person is actually in a posture of humility,
-
being humble before God. It's a good place to be. And you know
-
what He really looks upon that one person who has that repentant contrite heart because
-
he says in Isaiah sixty six to two. He says, but on this
-
one, I will look on him who is poor and of a contrite heart,
-
and who trembles at my word. Now, remember last week I also
-
talked about these two women. Remember these two women, and they called themselves
-
born again Christians. They went to church, and one even attended a weekly
-
life group in addition to church. And if you want to understand why I
-
am so passionate about what I'm saying, I want you to listen to this
-
because I can talk about this because both of these women live very far away.
-
There's no way that you're going to know who they are. But both
-
of them, this is all recent. This is very very recent. This
-
isn't like two years ago, a year ago, six months ago. This
-
is recent. Both of these women were married and both divorced their husbands.
-
They did the filing based on no biblical grounds. Okay, so they these
-
husbands did not cheat on their wives. They weren't sleeping around with every woman
-
in the city. No, these men were faithful. And these men did
-
not abuse their wives. They didn't beat their wives. Oh no, these
-
were good guys. But these women, we're greedy for money, and they
-
left these two men in financial arrears. They used a lot of manipulation and
-
lying. And you know, it says in Second Samuel fifteen, or it
-
might be First Samuel fifteen talks about rebellion being like witchcraft. And see when
-
you begin to operate in that rebellion manipulation lying, you're operating in witchcraft.
-
So there's all manner of evil spirits going on. Now. Does it sound
-
like these two women were godly women with godly character, I don't think so.
-
Sounds more like the Ephesis four nineteen that says, who, being past
-
feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness to work all uncleanness with greediness.
-
Verse twenty two in Ephesians four says this that this is what you and I
-
are supposed to do. Okay. It says that you put off concerning your
-
former conduct the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts well,
-
their deceitful lust was a lust for money. And then Hebrews twelve twenty eight
-
I shared that scripture is this is you know, this is a commandment.
-
We are to serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. That's a commandment
-
of the Lord. That's how we are to live our lives, to serve
-
God acceptably, with reverence and godly fear. Doesn't sound like these two women
-
fall into that category. Now, let's talk about real people in the Bible.
-
Last week I started talking about David, and I didn't get to finish.
-
He was, the scripture says, a man after God's heart. Yet
-
he committed adultery and had his mistress's husband killed. Now that's a great resume
-
for a godly leader, don't you think. But God's judgment for these acts
-
of sin was that his firstborn son died. Now what I've done is I've
-
selected a few psalms. There are many, you know, there are one
-
hundred and fifty psalms in the Book of Psalms. So I just selected a
-
few that David wrote that show his contry heart. As I mentioned, when
-
we are still and we humble ourselves and get in that posture of humility,
-
things began to change. The Lord can then work with our heart and begin
-
to transform us into his character. You're also going to see David's love for
-
God. And now Bathsheba was a worldly attraction of lust, and he paid
-
a dear price for it. But listen to David's words as he draws near
-
to God and realizes realizes he cannot live without God. That's important. See,
-
you, my friend, cannot live without God either, and neither can
-
I. So turn your heart to the Lord. You who have strayed and
-
got lost on your way, and it's time to come back to the real
-
love of your life. So let's just listen as I read several of these
-
parts of scripture. Listen to David's heart. This man who committed adultery and
-
committed murder Sow eighteen. This is what David says. He says, I
-
will you, o Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock and
-
my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my strength, in whom
-
I will trust my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
-
I will call upon the Lord who is worthy to be praised. So
-
shall I be saved from my enemies. Look at all the things that David
-
says about the Lord. He says, I will love you. You are
-
my strength, my rock, my fortress, my deliver my strength, the
-
one I'll trust my shield, the horn of my salvation, my stronghold,
-
woe. I'm going to call upon you, he says, so you can
-
see the passion in David's heart for God Psalm one nineteen. The law of
-
the Lord is perfect, converting the soul. The testimony of the Lord is
-
sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the Lord are right,
-
rejoicing the heart. The commandment of the Lord is pure in lightening the eyes.
-
The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever. The judgments of
-
the Lord are true and righteous. Altogether more to be desired are they than
-
gold, yea than much fine gold. Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
-
Moreover, by them your word, your servant is warned, and in
-
keeping them there is a great reward. So David, really in a nutshell,
-
takes the word of God, and he really breaks it down. It's
-
a teaching. He's going to teach us and tell us what the word of
-
God is all about. It will convert the sore, it will convert the
-
soul. Excuse me, it will make wise the simple. It'll rejoice your
-
heart. It'll open your eyes and enlighten your understanding. It is clean,
-
it it will endure forever. And he says, God's word is more to
-
be desired than the finest gold, and it's sweeter than honey. What's that
-
tell you about God's word? That says a whole lot about what God's word
-
is to us and for us. Because he says the word of God,
-
God warns us. And in keeping God's word there is a great reward.
-
I mean, I don't know. It doesn't get better than that. Then,
-
he writes verse twelve, who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from
-
secret faults, Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins. Let them not
-
have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, and I shall be
-
innocent of great transgression. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of
-
my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my strength and my
-
redeemer. You know that's a scripture you should pray every day. Verse fourteen.
-
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable
-
in your sight, Lord, my strength and my Redeemer. Powerful. That's
-
the Psalm nineteen is powerful. This is Psalm sixteen. He writes, I
-
will bless the Lord who has given me counsel. My heart also instructs me
-
in the night seasons. I have set the Lord always before me, because
-
he is at my right hand. I I shall not be moved. Therefore
-
my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices, and my flesh also will
-
rest in hope. See David knew better than anybody. He was out there
-
with those sheep twenty four to seven. He was alone, he was being
-
still, he was worshiping the Lord, praying to the Lord, and he
-
knew the goodness of God. He says, the Lord, you give me
-
counsel, you instruct my heart, and I just set you Lord before me
-
always because you're You're at my right hand, and I'm not gonna I'm not
-
gonna be moved. I'm not going to be moved by circumstances, situations,
-
bad things, bad news, terrible calamities. No, I'm not going to
-
be moved because You're at my right hand, and my heart's going to be
-
glad no matter what. This is. Also Psal, I'm sixteen ten and
-
eleven, he says, for you now he's writing about Christ, for you
-
will not leave my soul and shield, nor will you allow your Holy One
-
to see corruption. Se he has revelation about Christ. But then he says
-
in verse eleven. You will show me the path of life. In your
-
presence is fullness of joy, and at your right hand or pleasures forevermore.
-
That is the that is the great reward of having this be still moment with
-
God, having this intimacy with the Lord, because he's going to show you
-
the path of life. You're going to have the fullness of joy, and
-
you're going to understand what it means when David writes, at your right hand,
-
Lord, at your right hand are pleasures forever more. Psal I'm twenty
-
five. Show me your ways, O Lord. Teach me your past,
-
lead me in your truth, and teach me, for you are the God
-
of my salvation. On you I wait all day. Who is the man
-
that fears the Lord? Him? Shall he teach in the way he chooses.
-
He himself shall dwell in prosperity, and his descendants shall inherit the earth.
-
The secret of the Lord is with those who fear him, and he
-
will show them his covenant. My eyes are ever toward the Lord, for
-
he shall pluck my feet out of the net. David is really humble,
-
and that's where we need to be. You know, Lord, I can't
-
do life without me without you, show me your ways, teach me your
-
path of righteousness, show me, lead me in pathsive righteousness for your namesake.
-
David is saying, lead me in your truth and teach me, and
-
that's those should be the cry of a heart. These are things that you
-
can pray. These are things you can bring to the Lord and tell him
-
lead me and teach me and show me Psalm twenty four. Who may ascend
-
into the hill of the Lord, or who may stand in his holy place?
-
Ah, he who has clean hands and a pure heart, who has
-
not lifted up his soul to an nor sworn deceitfully, he shall receive blessing
-
from the Lord and righteousness from the Goddess of his salvation. So we can't
-
come into God's holy place. In other words, we can't enter in God's
-
presence. Is really what he's saying when it says, who may ascend into
-
the hill, We can't come into His presence with unclean hands and an unclean
-
heart. There has to be a time of repentance. There has to be
-
a time of humility, humbling ourselves and saying, rot row, I messed
-
up, and Lord, I need to confess this to you. I did
-
something not good, So we can't come into his presence until we have made
-
that confession. Psalm twenty seven one of my favorite psalms. This is starting
-
with verse four One thing, David writes, one thing I have desired of
-
the Lord, that I will seek, that I may dwell in the house
-
of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of
-
the Lord, and to inquire in his temple. For in the time of
-
tremble, wait on the Lord, be of good courage, and he shall
-
strengthen your heart. Wait, I say on the Lord. And that should
-
be the same desire that we have, that we want to dwell in the
-
house of the Lord all the days of our life. We want to behold
-
his beauty, We want to inquire in his temple. How do we do
-
that? We just get in a quiet place. Get in the most quiet
-
place you can find in your home. That cell phone has to be far
-
away and turned off. In fact, don't let it even be in the
-
same room. You can't multitask when you're trying to be quiet before the Lord.
-
If you want to hear his voice, you can't have anything distracting you.
-
Noise children TV radio, not its cell phone. Has to be out
-
of the room and off. You have to be quiet. You have to
-
be still and see when things start coming down down the road in twenty twenty
-
four, this is where you're gonna need to wait on the Lord, be
-
of good courage and let him strengthen your heart. See, because the Bible
-
says men's hearts will fail them from fear. Well, your heart isn't gonna
-
fail. I decree and declare, your heart is not gonna fail. You're
-
gonna wait on the Lord. You're gonna you're gonna be bold and courageous,
-
and you're gonna let the Lord strengthen your heart. Amen. Now let's close
-
by looking at the life of Jacob. And as you know, Jacob and
-
Esau were twins. Esau was born first. Jacob grabbed his heel in Rebecca's
-
womb, and it ended up that Jacob was a deceiver. I tricked his
-
brother into giving him his birthrate as the first born, and then Rebecca the
-
mother talks him into tricking his father to get the blessing. So he was
-
a deceiver. But he has this incredible be still moment with God. And
-
this is Genesis thirty two verses twenty two through thirty. So let me just
-
read that real quickly to you, he says. During the night, Jacob
-
got up and took his two wives, his two servant wives, and he's
-
eleven sons and crossed the Javic River with them. After taking them to the
-
other side, he sent over all his possessions. This left Jacob all alone
-
in the camp and a man. Now that should be capitalized in your Bible,
-
a man. The word man should be capitalized because it's representing the Angel
-
of the Lord, which is really a pre christ being. And wrestled with
-
Jacob until the dawn began to break so all night long. When the man
-
saw that he would not win the match, he touched Jacob's hip and wrenched
-
it out of its socket. Then the man said, let me go,
-
for the dawn is breaking, But Jacob said, I will not let you
-
go unless you bless me. What is your name, the man asked.
-
He replied, Jacob, Well, your name will no longer be Jacob.
-
The man told him from now on you will be called Israel, because you
-
have fought with God and with men and have won. Jacob said, please
-
tell me your name, and the man replied, why do you want to
-
know my name? Then he blessed Jacob. There jacob name named the place
-
Penile, which means fa of God, for he said, I have seen
-
God face to face, yet my life has been spared. The sun was
-
rising as Jacob left Penio, and he was limping because of the injury to
-
his hip. So the deceiver had this be still wild moment with God.
-
What a wild moment, wrestling all night with the Lord. But he wouldn't
-
let he wouldn't let the Lord go. See, he was always after God's
-
heart. Esau no Esau was a profane man. Esau wanted nothing to do
-
with the Lord, but Jacob always had even though even though he did some
-
silly things, he always had a heart for the Lord. And so you
-
see, in that alone moment with God, a great transformation took place.
-
Jacob was humbled. Oh, Jacob was trans formed, not just physically because
-
now he had a limp, but spiritually totally transformed this man. And of
-
course, as you know, Jacob had his twelve sons and they became the
-
twelve tribes of Israel. So you have no idea what your be still moment
-
can produce. So I want you to be excited about having that moment.
-
I want you to be excited to want to have a be still moment and
-
see what the Lord is going to do. It's an exciting adventure to serve
-
God, and I hope that you enjoy that adventure as much as I have
-
and am still enjoying. Amen. Next week we will conclude because there's some
