  1. Good evening. Welcome to Voice in the Wilderness. I'm Don

  2. Noble of Pure Heart Ministries, and I welcome you with

  3. exceedingly abundantly and overflowing joy tonight. My message is the

  4. Critical Path, Part one. Now what I did is I'm

  5. doing the same message I did last week. Don't turn

  6. the channel, but I've made some changes, made some additions

  7. and deletions, and I really think this is such an

  8. important message that I wanted to do it again. So

  9. I hope you'll be patient, because I really believe you'll.

  10. You know, sometimes you have to hear something twice because

  11. you miss things that you didn't hear the first time.

  12. So I'm glad that you're with me this evening, and

  13. I hope that you will stick it out and listen

  14. to this again. So this is part one of the

  15. Critical Path. A well worn path makes it easier to

  16. traverse heavy brush and densely wooded forests. I should know.

  17. I live on forty seven acres, much of which is heavy,

  18. dense brush and woods. This past spring I went over

  19. the hill into the woods and it was pretty easy

  20. to traverse. I was in search of springs, and fortunately

  21. I found three springs I could also see the well

  22. worn path that the deer had made to where there's

  23. a very small creek. Now, one month later I went

  24. back into those same woods and it was impossible to

  25. get back there because so much brush had grown up.

  26. It would actually have taken a machete to get through it.

  27. And the creek, well, it's dry. We've had an unusual summer,

  28. virtually no rain in three months, and for northern West

  29. Virginia that's definitely not the norm. It almost feels like

  30. we're in the southwest southwest desert here. I don't like that. Now,

  31. getting back to paths, the Bible has a lot to

  32. say about pass My all time favorite scripture and life

  33. verse is found in Proverbs for eighteen and it says,

  34. the path of the righteous is like the first gleam

  35. of dawn, shining ever brighter until the full light of day.

  36. Now I don't know what version of the Bible that's from,

  37. because I memorize that scripture from a plaque that was

  38. given to me as a gift. I know it's not

  39. the King James or the New King James version, but

  40. I like it. The path of the righteous is like

  41. the first gleam of dawn. Shining ever brighter until the

  42. full light of day. It's really a picture of our

  43. journey as a Christian, because when we first meet Christ

  44. get born again, it's like that first gleam of dawn.

  45. It's like that first little bit of light comes into

  46. our life. And as we grow amateure in the ways

  47. of the Lord, we become brighter. And the more time

  48. we spend each and every day studying God's word, praying,

  49. developing our relationship with the Lord, we shine a little brighter,

  50. just like our natural sun. It's on a path, we

  51. call it its orbit, and as the day progresses, it

  52. gets brighter and brighter. Now that's what a Christian should

  53. be like, getting brighter and brighter. And I can guarantee

  54. that will happen. As you give yourself to that quiet

  55. time with the Lord, studying the Bible, praying, you will

  56. become brighter. Now I'm not talking about being smarter, and

  57. I'm not talking about being brighter mentally. I'm talking about

  58. your countenance, changing your visible appearance, the glow of the

  59. glory of the Lord. We have a biblical example. His

  60. name is Moses. He was a man just like you

  61. and I, no different who after being in God's presence

  62. and communing and talking with God, Scripture says. In Exodus

  63. thirty four twenty nine through thirty it says this, when

  64. Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets

  65. of the testimony in his hand, he did not know

  66. that the skin of his face shone and sent forth

  67. beams by reason of his speaking with the Lord. Where

  68. when Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, behold, the

  69. skin of his face shone, and they feared to come

  70. near him. And if you read on, it goes on

  71. to say that eventually Moses put a veil over his

  72. face because the people could not talk to him his

  73. face was too bright. So, yes, you and I can

  74. exhibit that same brightness the expression of God in us.

  75. Now there's a minister I personally know that I have

  76. seen his face shine similar to what I'm talking about.

  77. He was ministering at a conference in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and

  78. oh my, his face was glowing. I would seriously encourage

  79. you to find him on YouTube and listen to him.

  80. His name is Dan Moehler m O H l E R. Yes,

  81. I told him that I saw so much glory on

  82. him as he preached. You see, Dan is not an

  83. ordinary preacher. Almost every word he utters is Bible. And

  84. he's so loving and he's so kind. He's what I

  85. call a real Christian, a book of acts Cristian. So

  86. take time to find him and listen. You will learn

  87. a lot, and you'll be a better Christian gleaning the

  88. truths that he shares. You know, I've said this many

  89. times about Dan, and I believe it because I've watched

  90. his life. I know I know his life. He's a

  91. modern day Paul the Apostle and truly an incredible blessing

  92. to the body of Christ. So I would really encourage

  93. you to find him on YouTube and listen. When we

  94. are talking about paths in the Bible. Now, there are

  95. a variety of different paths that you and I can take.

  96. We can take the straight path or the crooked path.

  97. We can take the righteous path or the wicked path.

  98. Can take the path of life or the path of death.

  99. We can take a good path or the evil path.

  100. We can even take the ancient path or the new path.

  101. Obviously a variety of paths which we can choose to take. Now,

  102. remember this, paths are always they always require a decision.

  103. Is it this way or that? Hmm, which way should

  104. I go? Remember, paths always require a decision. Where your

  105. path ends determines your success or failure in your life

  106. and in your Christian walk. I want to say that again,

  107. where your path ends determines your success or failure in

  108. your life and in your Christian walk. Choosing the right

  109. path brings you into a place of security, prosperity, health,

  110. peace and blessing. For example, let's look at Joshua. God

  111. laid out a path for him to take. He could

  112. have refused, but listen to what the Lord told him.

  113. Now turn with me to Joshua Chapter one, and we're

  114. going to look at verses one through eight. It says

  115. after the death of Moses, the servant of the Lord,

  116. it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua,

  117. the son of Nun, moses assistant, saying, Moses, my servant

  118. is dead. Now this is God talking to Joshua. Moses,

  119. my servant is dead. Now arise, go over this Jordan,

  120. you and all this people to the land which I

  121. am giving to them, the children of Israel. Every place

  122. that the soul of your foot will tread upon. I

  123. have given you, as I said to Moses, from the wilderness,

  124. and this Lebanon, as far as the great river, the

  125. River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to

  126. the great sea toward the going down of the sun,

  127. shall be your territory. No man shall be able to

  128. stand before you all the days of your life. As

  129. I was with Moses, so I will be with you.

  130. I will not leave you nor forsake you. Be strong

  131. and of good courage to this people. You shall divide

  132. as an inheritance the land which I swore to their

  133. fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous,

  134. that you observe to do according to all the law

  135. which Moses, my servant commanded. You do not turn from

  136. it to the right hand or to the left, that

  137. you may prosper wherever you go. This book of the

  138. Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall

  139. meditate in it day and night, that you observe to

  140. do according to all that is written in it. For

  141. then you will make your way prosperous, and then you

  142. will have good success. So there are two important things

  143. that Moses is saying to Joshua. One is every place

  144. you put the soul of your foot. I have given

  145. that land to you. So there's a path being formed

  146. everywhere I put my foot, I'm going to take that land.

  147. And it's the land that the Lord has given. And secondly,

  148. the success to this particular path that the Lord is

  149. taking Joshua on is that they have to keep the

  150. Book of the Law in their mouth. They need to

  151. meditate on God's word day and night. And that meditation

  152. of the word day and night is creating a path

  153. for success, because it says, for then you will make

  154. your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

  155. So you see, the Lord laid out a great path

  156. for Joshua and the Israelites. So Joshua was made responsible

  157. for forging a new path for the Israelites. No longer

  158. would they be going around in circles, talk about a

  159. well worn path, forty years of going round and around.

  160. Now they were. Now they would be taking a new

  161. path to the promised land, forsaking the old for the new,

  162. the land that was flowing with milk and honey. And

  163. that path changed everything for them. The path you decide

  164. to choose can literally change the trajectory of your life.

  165. My personal story is one that literally changed the trajectory

  166. of my life. So I want to share that story

  167. with you. I had just finished a semester of substitute

  168. teaching after I graduated from WU. I graduated in December,

  169. and that January I started substitute teaching. That whole spring semester.

  170. I applied for a teaching and coaching job in Grafton,

  171. West Virginia, and I really wanted that job. I interviewed

  172. for the job and after the interview, someone pulled me

  173. aside and told me that I was not going to

  174. get the job. And they said that because I wasn't local.

  175. Another gag had also interviewed and she was likely to

  176. get the job because she was the hometown girl. Okay,

  177. that made sense to me. I was disappointed, but hopeful.

  178. So now it's summer and I really need a summer job,

  179. and the only job that I could find was working

  180. weekends and holidays as a ward clerk in the emergency

  181. room at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia. Now,

  182. who in their right mind would want to work weekends

  183. and holidays in the summer, surely not I. Well, I

  184. needed a job, so I applied because I couldn't. I

  185. could not find anything else. They called me for the interview.

  186. I went to the interview and then they said you've

  187. got the job, and I said, hmmm, I don't think

  188. I want the job. I declined the job, and truly

  189. I was hoping I could find something else. I mean

  190. to be honest here, I am a nurse today, huh right,

  191. But back then I hated hospitals. I hated blood and

  192. all that kind of stuff, you know, death, sickness. Oh

  193. I didn't. Yeah, I didn't want to be part of it.

  194. But I came up short and two weeks later, still

  195. no job, and they called me back. Isn't that crazy?

  196. They called me back and asked me if I would

  197. reconsider and take the job, and I said yes. I

  198. needed a job, so I said yes. In the meantime,

  199. I was still looking for this teaching and coaching job

  200. for the fall, and then at some point in that

  201. summer I finally realized I wasn't getting the job of

  202. my dreams. So that was my summer as a ward

  203. clerk in the er, and I you know, after a while,

  204. I began to like the excitement of working in the ear.

  205. There was a lot of action and activity, and one

  206. day out of the blue, a nurse from the nick U,

  207. the nan Natal Intensive Care, who was from Wheeling, told

  208. me that I should think about applying for nursing school.

  209. And she said, you know there's a nursing shortage. They

  210. need nurses. You're gonna have. You won't have a problem

  211. finding a job. And unfortunately, I knew that there was

  212. a glut of teachers and that it was going to

  213. be very hard for me to find a teaching job.

  214. So I went to Wheeling, I interviewed, and I was

  215. accepted into nursing school to start that fall semester. And

  216. it was going to be interesting because I was twenty

  217. four years old and most of my classmates were eighteen,

  218. so I was six years older than everyone. And there

  219. were five other classmates that were my age or even

  220. older than myself, so I didn't feel too too bad.

  221. So I've finished my summer job. I packed up all

  222. my stuff. My father brought my uncle's truck and he

  223. took my dog and the big stuff and we headed home.

  224. I had just pulled into our driveway when my mother

  225. came running out the front door, and I put my

  226. window down and she said mister Strait, the principal from

  227. Grafton High School, wants to offer you the teaching and

  228. coaching job. Now which path would I choose? I quickly answered,

  229. tell him, thank you that I'm going to nursing school.

  230. And I'm so sorry. It was that quick. I knew instinctively,

  231. even though that was my dream job, the dream job

  232. I wanted for over a year, I couldn't go back.

  233. I knew I couldn't go back. It was too late.

  234. Fate had fallen, so to speak, and that was it.

  235. I knew I could not turn around and go back.

  236. This new path had opened up and I was about

  237. to embark on a new journey that forever changed my life.

  238. And I am not kidding you. I am not kidding

  239. you when I tell you that it changed my life.

  240. And here I am today, still in Wheeling, West Virginia.

  241. The Lord has a way of getting us where we

  242. need to be. And during that time, I want to

  243. say this, because I got saved in college, and at

  244. first I was pretty excited, you know, about being a Christian.

  245. And then you know, a couple of years went by,

  246. and you know, I would say today, looking back, I

  247. was probably more of a nominal Christian at the time.

  248. So by the time I arrived in Wheeling to start

  249. nursing school, you know, I'm a pretty nominal Christian. And

  250. that three years of nursing school a not being connected

  251. to a church, not being in church, and really not

  252. understanding how important that was. I didn't have you know,

  253. I didn't have a spiritual mentor I didn't have discipleships.

  254. I wasn't discipled well, and so you know, not being

  255. in church, not being connected with other believers, that was

  256. Those were bad decisions. But you know I was ignorant

  257. of that. I didn't have someone to help lead me

  258. in the right direction. So what happened is I ended

  259. up on a path away from the Lord, and that

  260. path kept me back slidden for twenty four years. Bad

  261. path decision, so I in you know, looking back, I

  262. chose the crooked path, not really understanding what that all

  263. meant and what you know, the consequences. I didn't. I

  264. didn't know the consequence consequences of not being in church

  265. and fellowshipping and being actively involved and discipled. I do now,

  266. and that's why I challenge everybody to come to my

  267. Bible study. That's why I make a big, big deal

  268. about Bible study. And so you know, I started the

  269. Book of Romans and on the fourth of September, none

  270. of you showed up. And I'm really disappointed, to be honest,

  271. because this is going to be a phenomenal teaching and

  272. it will change your life. And I'm telling you, you know,

  273. that's what I'm called to teach. So that was twenty

  274. four years of misery until the until July of nineteen

  275. ninety eight, when I chose a better path hallelujah, and

  276. rededicated my life to the Lord. Thank goodness that I

  277. did that. I mean, that was a pretty radical decision.

  278. I had really come to the end of myself, just

  279. like the prodigal son. You know, I was the prodigal

  280. and baby. When I came home and I came back

  281. to the Lord, there was no turning back ever, ever,

  282. ever again. I knew that, I knew that, I knew

  283. I would never be walking away from God again. So yeah,

  284. so I want to encourage you come to my Bible study.

  285. It's on when Monday six pm. Top Hat Pools in

  286. Stoves twenty to fifty eight twenty two fifty eight Main Street, Wheeling,

  287. six o'clock So my question to you tonight is this,

  288. what path is your life currently on. Are you on

  289. the straight or the crooked? Are you on the righteous

  290. or the wicked? Are you on the path of life?

  291. Are you headed on the path of death? Or are

  292. you on the ancient path or a new path, a

  293. good path or an evil path? So let me just

  294. say this in conclusion, friend, I am praying for you,

  295. all of you who are listening. I'm praying for you

  296. to take the righteous path and look. If you need help,

  305. the righteous path, the good path, God's path. I hope

  306. it encouraged you to do something that maybe you realized

  307. or recognized. Ooh, I think I may be making some

  308. bad decisions, and you know, we've all done it, so

  309. it's not like you know, you're just like the rest

  310. of us. We've made some bad ones, but thank Goodness

  311. for the Lord, he always helps us to get back

  312. on the right path. And that's what I want for you.

  313. I want you to be on this good straight and

  314. as Jesus says, it's actually a very narrow path. So

  315. I look forward to being with you again next week.
