  1. Good evening. Welcome to Voice in the Wilderness. I'm Don

  2. Noble of Pure Heart Ministries, and I welcome you today

  3. with exceedingly abundantly and much much overflowing joy joy Joy. Amen. Well,

  4. I'm excited to be with you tonight, and I do

  5. want to remind you of the Bible study that I'm

  6. teaching on the Book of Romans. I want to invite

  7. you to come and join me Wednesdays, six pm. Top

  8. Hat Pools and Stoves, twenty two fifty eight Main Street, Wheeling,

  9. West Virginia. And trust me, you haven't missed much because

  10. we haven't got far. I'm still on Romans one, verse three.

  11. There is I tell you, the Bible is vast. It's

  12. just I mean, once you start diving into the Word

  13. of God, I mean, I just can't imagine what you know,

  14. what it's going to be like in heaven. What I mean,

  15. because the Word's going to be there, and it's just

  16. it's vast, it's it's exciting. So please come and join us.

  17. We'd love to have you. I am still on the

  18. topic of the critical Path. This is part three, and

  19. I think next week I will conclude with part four.

  20. But it's been fun. I'm enjoying this message, and I

  21. hope you are as well. I hope you're getting encouraged.

  22. That's the whole point and not. You know, encouragement should

  23. lead to action. So okay, let's get going. Paths they

  24. point to a destination, right If you start walking on

  25. a path in the woods, you have a destination. You're

  26. planning to head where there's a beautiful set of waterfalls,

  27. or you're on a path to a log cabin in

  28. the woods. So paths always point to a destination. Now,

  29. sometimes we know ahead of time what's on a certain path.

  30. My husband and I liked certain trails in Zion National Park.

  31. We had been to Zion oh gosh, I kind of

  32. lost count I want to say maybe ten times, twelve times.

  33. It was one of my favorite places to hike. So

  34. we knew the trails so well that we knew where

  35. the certain places were on a specific trail, for instance,

  36. one that we really liked it. It was an easy

  37. trail to start with when you first get there because

  38. you remember that you're at about forty five hundred feet elevation,

  39. and there was a place that we would get to

  40. where there was a small waterfall, so you just had

  41. to pay attention because it would be wet, slippery, or

  42. you know, we would get to a place where we

  43. knew there were steep rocks that had to be crossed.

  44. So sometimes you know the path, you know the trails,

  45. you're familiar with them. In the late seventeen nineties and

  46. early eighteen hundreds, Americans were moving westward. This was unknown territory.

  47. This wasn't like hiking in the National Park that I've

  48. been in many, many times. This is unknown territory. There

  49. were no well worn paths. These people were pioneers forging

  50. a new path to reach new territory, looking for that place,

  51. that very special place to stretch forth and settle. The

  52. Lewis and Clark Expedition, commissioned by President Thomas Jefferson, began

  53. in eighteen o three. I'm sure many of you are

  54. familiar with that expedition, And this happened shortly after we

  55. purchased the Louisiana purchase in eighteen o three, and President

  56. Thomas Jefferson wanted to have it explored and mapped. This

  57. was newly acquired territory and he wanted to find a

  58. practical route across the western half of the continent, and

  59. he wanted to establish an American presence in this territory

  60. before European powers attempted to establish claims in this region.

  61. So these men, a select group of US Army and

  62. civilian volunteers, set out from the Missouri River in Illinois,

  63. eventually coming to the Columbia River and the Pacific Ocean

  64. in eighteen oh five. Now this is just my opinion,

  65. but I think it's one of the greatest feats in

  66. our American history. I would really encourage you to read

  67. about the expedition. It's fascinating. But this path was forged

  68. by committed and fearless men. So people who are on

  69. a path that is unknown to them are often people

  70. who are extremely committed and fearless. This arduous and very

  71. dangerous path opened the door to further exploration, trade, and

  72. scientific discoveries. You know, some people have it in their blood,

  73. so to speak, to journey where others have never dared

  74. to go. Astronaut Alan Shepherd was the first American in space,

  75. flying on May fifth, nineteen sixty one. That's a long

  76. time ago, on a suborbital flight in NASA's Mercury spacecraft

  77. called Freedom seven. Now, I consider Alan Shepherd a great pioneer.

  78. His flight lasted fifteen minutes and covered three hundred miles.

  79. Shepherd experienced acceleration more than six times the force of

  80. Earth's gravity. He experienced five minutes of weightlessness an on

  81. re entry to the Earth, he experienced deceleration up to

  82. eleven times the Earth's gravity. These pioneers, people like Lewis

  83. and Clark, and the men in his group, people like

  84. Alan Shepard and the astronauts to follow Grisom, and you

  85. know many others. These pioneers, they were undaunted by the

  86. unknown path before them. In Genesis chapter twelve, we are

  87. introduced to a man called Abram, and the Lord spoke

  88. to this man, Abram, and he said to him, leave

  89. your native country, your relatives, and your father's family, and

  90. go to the land that I will show you. So

  91. Abram departed as the Lord instructed, and he took his

  92. family eventually to the land called Canaan. This path was

  93. unfamiliar to Abram. He had never been this way before,

  94. neither physically or spiritually. You see in the er of

  95. the Chaldeans where he grew up. He was a worshiper

  96. of pagan gods. Now after this encounter with the One

  97. True God, things were dramatically different, and Abram, who later

  98. became Abraham, became the father of our faith. So here

  99. is a man who God chose gave him clear instructions

  100. to leave this place called Er and go to a

  101. place called Canaan, which we now know as the nation

  102. of Israel. To be honest, if you study the scriptures,

  103. and I have mentioned this oh months ago when talking about,

  104. you know, the October seventh thing that happened in Israel.

  105. And actually with regard to what really is it that

  106. Israel owns, if you look biblically, it's more than the

  107. land of Israel that we currently call Israel. It includes

  108. part of Jordan. And so Abram Abraham really was on

  109. an adventure, and I would call that an adventure of

  110. a lifetime, just like Lewis and Clark. I'm sure they

  111. had so many difficulties on their travel and they wouldn't

  112. have thought of it as an adventure of a lifetime.

  113. But I'm sure when they got back looking, you know,

  114. in hindsight, they had to say to themselves, this was

  115. the adventure of a lifetime. And I think Alan Shepherd

  116. could have said the same thing. So these people, you know,

  117. they're just undaunted by the unknown that path before them

  118. that they've never been on, that they're encouraged to tackle,

  119. and they just do it and then it just becomes,

  120. you know, like the most marvelous thing. So I would

  121. like you to take a moment and think about the

  122. people that you know, people in your life that have

  123. encouraged you to take a path different from the expected one. Now,

  124. it could be neighbors, it could be parents, It could

  125. be that teacher who was always giving you encouragement. It

  126. could be that coach that just wouldn't let you give

  127. up when you failed. That person at work who was

  128. there to listen when you needed someone to just be

  129. kind and lend an ear to the worries or the

  130. concerns that you had. The business partner who was eager

  131. to see you accomplish your goals. We have all had

  132. someone in our life who has just refused to give

  133. up on us, pushing us toward our destiny. Now, in

  134. my own personal life growing up, the person who probably

  135. had the most impact on my life was my father

  136. and my aunt. My father pushed me, My father made

  137. me take public speaking in school. And you have no idea.

  138. I was so afraid to talk in public. Yes, it's true,

  139. I was scared to death. But somehow he knew that

  140. that would be important in my life. I don't know.

  141. God led him to force me to take public speaking

  142. in high school, and then he forced me to take

  143. public speaking in college. And then I still had much

  144. fear and difficulty, and my husband encouraged me and he

  145. we both took the Dale Carnegie class and boy, you

  146. have to you have to get up in front of

  147. these people, and you can't look like an idiot. So

  148. I can say that my father had such an impact

  149. on helping me to be what I am today that

  150. I can actually speak on the radio that I'm a

  151. teacher of the word that I preach in churches. I

  152. preach the Word of God and I have no fear.

  153. I can tell you when I get up there, I

  154. have not a lick of fear. I love every moment

  155. of it. So there was something in my father that

  156. pushed me to you know, he just like I said,

  157. what was that? I believe it was the Lord, because

  158. the Lord knew what was going to be in my future,

  159. and so he just kept pushing me and pushing me

  160. and pushing me. And then my aunt is the one

  161. who introduced me to Christ, and so she was always

  162. encouraging me. Gosh, I mean just pushing me. And you know, yeah,

  163. she was a great, great exhorterer, my aunt. So I'm

  164. sure there's somebody in your life that you have like that,

  165. where you know, we just want to give up, but

  166. they refuse to give up on us, and they keep

  167. pushing us toward our destiny. You know, what did these

  168. people see in me or what did they see in

  169. you that others didn't. Well, obviously my father saw something

  170. in me, obviously, and I was so shy, I mean

  171. like terribly, terribly shy person, and maybe he realized, you know,

  172. I needed to just get rid of that. But those

  173. people in our life who see something in us, you know,

  174. they see our value, they see goodness, they see the

  175. kindness of your heart, they see the way you cared.

  176. They were your best cheerleader, and because of it, you

  177. took a different path that made a difference in your life.

  178. My husband was my greatest cheerleader in my married life,

  179. and truly, I mean this guy was always encouraging me.

  180. And oh, you have no I have no idea how

  181. many times I wanted to give up certain things. In fact,

  182. there was a point where I said, I'm just I'm

  183. not doing the radio anymore, and he said, oh, yes

  184. you are. And so sometimes the Lord sends someone you

  185. least expect to have you change course because he knows

  186. that we need to change the course. But you know,

  187. we can get pretty stubborn. And I can tell you

  188. that in nineteen ninety four, I remember it like it

  189. was yesterday. I can remember every detail of the situation.

  190. I was back sliden at the time, and the Lord

  191. sent a woman who was in the gay lifestyle to

  192. speak truth to me. She saw I was going to

  193. make a grave mistake, and she encouraged me to do

  194. what was right. So here I was back sliden, ready

  195. to do like really stupid something, and she was really

  196. encouraging me to do what was right. So the Lord

  197. is capable of bringing people or animals in our life

  198. to get us on the right path. I think that's amazing.

  199. I actually find it fun that God just knows how

  200. to do that kind of stuff. So I'm going to

  201. share with you a story out of the Bible, and

  202. it's in Numbers, the Book of Numbers, Chapter twenty two,

  203. verses one through thirty five, going to read it to

  204. you out of the New Living Translation. I think this

  205. translation is sometimes much easier to understand, so numbers twenty two,

  206. starting with verse one. Out of the New Living Translation,

  207. it says, then the people of Israel traveled to the

  208. plains of Moab and camped east of the Jordan River,

  209. across from Jericho. Bailik, son of Zippor, the Moabite king,

  210. had seen everything the Israelites did to the Emirits, and

  211. when the people of Moab saw how many Israelites there were,

  212. they were terrified. The king of Moab said to the

  213. elders of Midian, this mob will devour everything in sight

  214. like an ox devour's grass in the field. So Baylik,

  215. king of Moab, sent messengers to call Balem, son of Biere,

  216. who was living in his native land of Pether, near

  217. the Euphrates River. And this was the message that the

  218. king sent to Balem. He said, look, a vast hoard

  219. of people has arrived from Egypt. They cover the face

  220. of the earth and are threatening me. Please come and

  221. curse these people for me, because they are too powerful

  222. for me. Then perhaps I will be able to conquer

  223. them and drive them from the land. I know that

  224. blessings fall on any people you bless, and curses fall

  225. on people you curse. Baylex's messengers, who were elders of

  226. Moab and Midian sent set out with money to pay

  227. Balem to place a curse upon Israel. They went to

  228. Baylim and delivered Bayleik's message to him. Stay here over night,

  229. Balam said, in the morning, I will tell you whatever

  230. the Lord directs me to say. So the officials for

  231. Moab stayed there with Balim. That night, God came to

  232. Baalim and asked him, who are these men visiting you.

  233. Balam said to God, Bailik, son of zappor king of Moab,

  234. has sent me this message. Look, a bashtort of people

  235. has arrived from Egypt, and they cover the face of

  236. the earth. Come and curse these people for me. Then

  237. perhaps I will be able to stand up to ti

  238. them and drive them from the land. But God told Balem,

  239. do not go with them. You are not to curse

  240. these people, for they have been blessed. The next morning,

  241. Balem got up and told Baylik's officials go home, just

  242. go home. The Lord will not let me go with you.

  243. So the Moabite officials returned to King Baylick and reported

  244. Balem refused to come with us. Then Baylick tried again.

  245. This time he sent a larger number of even more

  246. distinguished officials than those he had sent the first time.

  247. They went to Baalim and delivered this message to him.

  248. This is what Baylick's son of Zibor says. Please don't

  249. let anything stop you from coming to help me. I

  250. will pay you very well and do whatever you take me.

  251. Just come and curse these people for me. But Balem

  252. responded to Balik's messengers, and he said, even if Bailick

  253. were to give me his palace filled with silver and gold,

  254. I would be powerless to do anything against the will

  255. of the Lord, my God. But stay here one more

  256. night and I will see if the Lord has anything

  257. else to say to me. That night, God came to

  258. Balam and told him, since these men have come for you,

  259. get up and go with them, but do only what

  260. I tell you to do. So the next morning Balem

  261. got up, sat saddled his donkey, and started off with

  262. the Moabite officials. But God was angry that Balem was going,

  263. so he sent the Angel of the Lord to stand

  264. in the road to block his way. As Balem and

  265. two servants were riding along, Balem's donkey saw the Angel

  266. of the Lord standing in the road with a drawn

  267. sword in his hand. The donkey bolted off the road

  268. into a field, but Balem beat it and turned it

  269. back on to the road. Then the Angel of the

  270. Lord stood at a place where the road narrowed between

  271. two vineyard walls. When the donkey saw the Angel of

  272. the Lord, it tried to squeeze by and crushed Balem's

  273. foot against the wall. So Balem beat the donkey again.

  274. Then the Angel of the Lord moved farther down the

  275. road and stood in a place too narrow for the

  276. donkey to get by at all. This time, when the

  277. donkey saw the angel, it laid down under Balem in

  278. a fit of rage. Balem beat the animal again with

  279. his staff. Then the Lord gave the donkey the ability

  280. to speak, and he said, what have I done to

  281. you that dis deserves your beating me three times? It

  282. asked Balem, you have made me look like a fool.

  283. Balem shouted, if I had a sword with me, I

  284. would kill you, But I am the same donkey you

  285. have ridden all your life. The donkey answered, have I

  286. ever done anything like this before? No, Balem admitted. Then

  287. the Lord opened Balem's eyes and he saw the Angel

  288. of the Lord standing in the roadway with a drawn

  289. sword in his hand. Balem bowed his head and fell

  290. face down on the ground before him. Why did you

  291. beat your donkey those three times? The Angel of the

  292. Lord demanded, Look, I have come to block your way

  293. because you are stubbornly resis me three times? The donkey

  294. saw me and shied away. Otherwise I would certainly have

  295. killed you by now, and spared the donkey. Then Balem

  296. confessed to the Angel of the Lord, I have sinned.

  297. I didn't realize you were standing in the road to

  298. block my way. I will return home if you are

  299. against my going. But the Angel of the Lord told

  300. Balem go with these men, but say only what I

  301. tell you to say. So Balam went on with Baalik's officials,

  302. and when King Balik heard that Balem was on the way,

  303. he went out to meet him at Amulbay town on

  304. the Arnon River, at the farthest border of the land.

  305. Didn't I send you an urgent invitation. Why didn't you

  306. come right away, Bailick asked, Balem. Didn't you believe me

  307. when I said I would reward you richly? Balem rep replied,

  308. look now I have come, but I have no power

  309. to say whatever I want. I will only speak only

  310. the message that God puts in my mouth. Then Balem

  311. accompanied Bailick to Curryeth, Who's off where the king sacrificed

  312. cattle and sheep. He sent portions of the meat to

  313. Balem and the officials who were with him, And the

  314. next morning, Baylick took Balem up to Bamoth bail and

  315. from there he could see some of the people of

  316. Israel spread out below him. So I'm not gonna go on,

  317. But the point is here was a man on a

  318. path to do what the king had sent him to do.

  319. Of course, remember there's payment involved here, and so Balem

  320. is supposed to curse the israel people, but the donkeys.

  321. He's gonna stop this whole deal because that donkey sees

  322. that angel with the sword in its hand, and the

  323. donkey ain't dumb, and so you know, God can use

  324. whatever to get us to where we need to be.

  325. So it might take a Donkey, if you're stubborn, I

  326. can safely say that God has a specific path for

  327. us to follow. Is it one like Lewis and Clark

  328. dangerous unknown? Well it could be. Is it an exciting

  329. journey that opens up space exploration? Well, it could be

  330. something that dramatic and huge that the Lord has in

  331. store for you. What will your answer be? I suggest,

  332. be like Abraham who said yes and obedient to the call.

  333. Be like Paul, whose path changed so dramatically that he

  334. changed his name from Saul to Paul. Be resolved to

  335. follow the path God has chosen for you. It's called

  336. His perfect Will. It's the sweet spot that is the

  337. path that will bring you the greatest joy and fulfillment. Amen. Well,

  338. I want to encourage you stay on the good path. Amen.
