Acts 2 - The Holy Spirit | Pr Alvin Keng

You're listening to a message to go from acts church. We hope this message

will light up your day. So what is the good news? The good

news is Jesus came to this earth to die for our sins. He fulfilled

the law and redeemed us from sin and the penalty of sin, which is

death, so that we can have eternal life and become sons and daughters of

God and heirs to the King of God. Do you know how significant that

is? You know what an error is? Do you know what inheritance is?

Right now, I'm ready at the age where I have to take care

of my parents were aging, right, and I'm learning all these things myself.

For will I must do this? You know, I'm thinking about my

kids. You know, when you inherit something values for example, Okay,

you don't even wait for your parents to go before he inherit this. You

know, we all inherit something from our parents, the values we have.

We all inherit things from church. Right. If I tell you today,

Jesus can heal that is something you inherit by being a son and a daughter

of God. Because we believe in that and we practice it, and it

happens isn't that power? Right? So that is the good news. The

good news is the story of redemption from sin and from evil, because if

we continue in this path that we are going, then we will end up

in sin and dying basil. I mean, how can you curse me?

I'm not consing you, guys. I'm just telling you what is going to

happen if I continue in the path of not exercising, not eating right,

not controlling my diet. Now, I cut all sugar every time. Last

time, I tell you, I only order say I stay tarted. That's

the only two things I order. Don't even go rung money strong. Now

my drinks is stay or ice cosme cut sugar, cut cops rice. I

will go double cut right. Hey, I'm a foodie, guys. Just

to let you know this, that's why I ended up so big last time.

I'm still big. I need you lose more. Right If I don't

do this, no wonder, So don't wonder. Look at what is happening

right now. Take stock of your life. Ask God to come and help

you if you can't do it yourself. Again, some of us here will

be in situations. It's difficult, I understand, But the church is here.

We are here, we are here to support and it doesn't take change

in a day. Right. Sorry, I use a lot of gym examples

because that's relevant to me. Now, I hope you catch it right.

The goal was to you know, lose weight, exercise every day. But

I had to start somewhere. So I started with once a week, go

gym at least once a week, okay, at least, and then I

was able to heat it consistently. Now I'm at three times a week consistently.

I am trying my best now to do two things. Cut my food

and do every day. That is my goal. Yesterday I feel the day

before I fail. Yeah, I feel as well yesterday I want to do.

I wear everything at it, I sit down, I watch the tavy,

the cush is very nice, and I'm like, oh, I took

wake up early for extras. It's okay, it's okay, we feel But

tomorrow Monday, I will go, Jim. I tell your first. Okay,

why I'm using your as my accountability. But now because you don't see

So because of that, I'm like, okay, I better go.

So it is a story of redemption from sin and from evil, right,

that is? That is the gospel. Do we believe in the gospel?

Do we know the gospel? Do we understand the gospel? Do we understand

the application of the Gospel in our life? Do you know that by being

a believer today you can you can call upon Jesus praise God. You don't

have to do it for me. Oh no, we must come, you

know, shake some bells or something like that, and then Jesus. No,

no, no, guys, you can call upon the Lord. Because

of what Jesus did on the cross. You can call on the Lord.

Right, that's why, just now, when we pray, we are confident

when we say in Jesus name, everybody here, can you know, claim

the name of Jesus. You don't have to be extra holy, No,

guys, the moment you say, the moment you believe, it shall be

done. Now, of course God will do it, not us are.

couldn't recognize who Jesus is. And then little, huh could he be Jesus

because the the Bible says he does have a really normal looking face, you

know, but he was around for forty days? Now why to prove to

all of us that he rose from the date that was the I believe was

one of the only reason why. Then after that, now he went to

Heaven ready, you know, do you know what I say? God?

It's good. Sometimes we can come to a place where we don't believe,

but God will make it impossible for you to not believe. Well, actually

it's still possible for us, but he will make it so obvious to us.

That's why it's some nice I feel we need to open our eyes and

see, Lord, are you here? Ask those questions? Right? He

was around for how nice he is? He? You know, he was

so nice to the disciple that he was around to show them, guys,

I'm around. And then after that what happened He went up and being assembled

together with them. He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but wait

for the promise of the Father, which he said, you have fert from

me. Guys, just to give you another perspective, you read the gospels,

you realize that from the start until and now, Jesus constantly talking about

I'm gonna die, that will come back, then the helper will come.

And I'm here to say, you know, he saw all these like even

the Roman sold just knew he was resurrected. Why did they put two soldiers

in front of the toomb because they knew that he claimed that he was going

to be resurrected, and they didn't want a civil unrest, so they made

sure there was two Romans or just there to fight the disciples, because they

think the disciples will be the one that will take his body and say,

oh, he's alive. That's what happened. Political story quite interesting the Bible.

But he rose from the day. Do you believe? That's why I

say, eye witness account, right, do you believe? And he said,

for John truly baptized your water, but you shall be baptized you the

Holy Spirit, not many days from now. Therefore, when they had come

together. They asked him, saying, Lord, will you, at this

time before the kingdom of Israel restore the of Israel? And he said to

them, it is not for you to know the times of seasons, which

the Father has put in its own authority. But you shall receive power when

the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be witnesses to me

in Jerusalem and in all jude and Samaria to the end of the earth.

Okay, So Jesus died the cross for white for all sins, right,

then he resurrected. Why is the resurrection significant because he has overcome death.

If he died like every manner, then why are we're celebrating him. We

celebrate because he overcomes sin and death. Because of that, we are redeemed,

meaning anything you do in your life, if you come to Jesus,

you are clean. You can survive death. Okay. I'm not saying you

cannot die. Okay, but you don't go to a spiritual death. Right,

But Jesus left, He's not here anymore, No, guys, He's

in heaven. Really, then, how when we sing we pray? When

the spirit of Holy Spirit very significant? He said, I'm gonna go.

So he's not here already he will come back. Okay, he'll come back.

I think he's gonna come back very soon. Looka what's happening here.

I'm like, oh, it's coming back quite soon. Ready, he's gonna

come back. But who is with us here? Holy Spirit? Who is

Holy Spirit, God's presence? So he left them and they say, I

will come back. So you send it to heaven. Okay, but go

to Jerusalem. Don't go anywhere, continue to wait, wait, and the

Holy Spirit will come. And the Holy Spirit is here with us. That's

said, So let's study a little bit about the Holy Spirit, okay x

Chapter two, the coming of the Holy Spirit, giving you understanding again.

When the day of the Pentagons had fully come, they were all in one

account, in one place, and suddenly there came a sound from heaven as

of a rushing wind, and they feel the whole house where they were sitting.

Then that appeared to them divided tongues, as a fire that once set

upon each of them, and they all filled. They were all filled with

the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them

utterance. And they were dwelling in Jerusalem. Jews development from every nation under

Heaven. Okay, And when this thing sound occurred, the multitude came together

were confused because everyone heard them speak in his own language. Then they were

all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, look are not all these

who speak Galileans? And how is it that we hear in each our own

language in which we were born passions and meats and elamites, those dwelling in

Mesopotamia, Julia, Cappadocia, ponteus Asia. Continuously you hear different lands around

it. Give you, give you a reference. So let's say Jerusalem,

Malaysia. Right and during okay, why Pentecos. Pentecos is just a harvest

celebration, So during Gauai and giving you some context. So let's say,

They had a prayer service in the upper room, waiting for the Holy

okay, not a nice fancy hotel like this and they were where they

stayed, and they had a prayer meeting there. I don't want to ask

this question. Why can I encourage you go for extras prayer meeting. Spiritual

disciplining, guys, Oh, I mean just no, no, no,

no, spiritual discipline, spiritual discipline. Right, if you can make it

loud, if you can, then you know, find a way. But

because the Holy Spirit came during a prayer service, during a prayer service,

okay, so that's what happened. Holy speak came and then all these people

that were around you imagine we were having like a big celebration here and people

from all around, from Singapore, from Thailand, from Vietnam, you know,

same different languages were born there, Jews that were born there, so

they speak the local language, tie and all. And then they came to

this place to have celebration. Now they didn't they didn't know about the upper

room. But then they heard the big sound, no pra whatever, right,

and then all they came to see what happened, right, and then

they saw these men speaking in their own language, right, and what they

were they saying, right, we hear them speaking in our own tongues.

The wonderful works of God. So they were all amazed and perplexing to one

another. Whatever could this mean? Others smocking said they were full of new

wine. So that's what happened. They came and they heard in their own

language, and they were amazed. And then they're like, aren't these Galileans?

You know what Galileanans are known for? Fishermen? You know it's a

fisherman, blue collar worker, not linguistsa not study masters are how can these

blue collar fishermen know our language? They we're all amazed. It must be

God. But some say they were drunk friends. You know, I learned

from this passage. When you go out there and you talk to someone about

Jesus, don't be surprised that someone will reject you. You will have people

that say, wow, really Jesus, I'm amazed. And then you will

have people that tell you you are drunk. So it is not you or

the message or the messenger, it is whether they are ready to receive.

Why are we afraid when you really know you're going to get two different responses?

Shouldn't it be better that when we go out and we share, or

when we invite people to church, we ask the Holy Spirit, Holy spirit.

Can you tell me who's ready to receive it? Wouldn't it be better

rather than scared? And don't us? And why do we do that?

Because we believe in the good news. Hey, I receive Jesus. I

think you need to. And if you're not convinced that you need to share

it with someone in one way or another, then I don't think you fully

experience the good news in your life or where strong with a passelving it's true

when you really really experience it, like now I'm again, jim sorry and

Jimma. Every time I got in turn, every time I got a new

person come, they will join me in the gym because I will bug them,

come comer today. Then when they don't come, I'll make them feel

bad because it's a good habit that they can develop because I know it's good

for them because it was good for me. No one when I was younger

encouraged me that way, So I want to encourage other people. I want

to when people feel like giving up, I know, I say, don't

give up, let me I finish my set, but I'll do with you

right, And then when they did, I can say, great, awesome

job. We got to encourage people, you know, don't just keep it

to ourselfs this faith that we have. Amen. So the Holy Spirit is

significant to us. He is he is again, there are different thought process

out there. Okay, I just want to go straight towards by bu Saila

Jesus left, Holy Spirit Come, He's with me. Okay. When I

receive Christ, God's presence and spirit is with me. Not just only in

church. No, No, when I'm at home, he's with me.

And because it's with me at home right in church, in different places,

I can talk to him, I can engage him, I can ask him

for advice. I can allow him to work in my life. It is

not all the timer. Oh the sky opened and then no, no,

no, not all the time like that one. Sometimes you experience divine moments

in your life. You will trust me when you want in the Lord,

trust me. You will have one. And then you're like, I'm so

excited because in no way this is natural, because it's supernatural because you experience

it. Right, That's how good God is to us. He is kind

to us. Now, not just all you you know you holy monly got

titled no no, no, every single one of his children He wants to

talk to you. He wants to engage you. That is a wonderful thing.

Who is influencing more us more in our life? Is it God or

other things? We got to be very careful because the reality is that if

we a lot other influencers, God's voice woill be softer because we allow other

influencers to come. Amen. So what happened? He started with a Praymian

thing in the upper room where they were staying. They all continued with prayer

and supplication. They were united. So another key thing that I've read here

is that everyone was united. Everyone understood the assignment. Everyone came together.

Nobody here. I want to go home. Don't come like that. You

so so strong again? Okay, I know, yeah, don't. Okay,

I don't get past the Gloria problems. I'm a bit passion in PJR.

I know who's baton. You can go listen to the MTG, the

PJ you can take it. And they know me well. One hundred and

twenty disciples were there. There were one hundred and twenty people still believe powerfuler.

They fulfilled scripture by choosing Matthias to take Juda's place. Okay, I

won't go to dip into it. But really quick before that, Judas is

carried betrayed Jesus and he offed himself. Okay, said said, And they

just read in the scripture in Isaiah it says, for it is written in

the Book of Oh sorry, Book of Sums, let his dwelling place be

desolate, and let no one live in it, let another take his office.

So what happened is they choose two guys, Barzabas and Matthias right part

of the one hundred and twenty and they say someone, So they got chalk

disciples eat. I don't know in the Bible anyway, was it written that

must have chalk discaples are? I think Jesus didn't specify. Also, you

know why uh I think about it. I'm like, uh, you know,

I cannot think. You know, maybe there's some significance are But when

I read that, it just concluded that they had to fulfill scripture before the

Holy Spirit came, because scriptures say let someone take his place. So we

follow up, guys, there's some things in the Bible don't have to pray

on that. I think sometimes Christians, we take this hole. Let me

pray about it first a bit too far, A bit too far serve God's

house. Let me pray about it first. No need to pray about you

on Yes, pray about where you should yourself in God's house. You should

pray about that. But you don't have to pray about whether you should or

not serf in God's house. You don't need to pray about whether you should

or not come to a church on Sunday. You need to pray about whether

you should or not go. No, no need all this in your prayer.

Taking up leadership, Yes, please pray about it, because it takes

more where to surf. Yes, pray about it. Go relationship, Yes,

please pray about it. But certain things in your Christian life, let

me pray where I should read the Bible? No, No, guys,

don't need to pray about you on some things, only your prayer by the

on. In fact, some things are you. Just ask a holy spirit.

He will put the voice in your Heartna, and then a lot of

What are you doing to fulfill scripture in your life? You have you

seen it that way before? You know? Jesus for fil scripture. Right.

Do you know that you can fulfill scripture when you pray for the sick?

Do you know that you can fulfill scripture when you follow? The Bible

says you know. Yes, all of us here can fulfill scripture when we

do certain things, when we obey. That's what's happening. So what happened

in the day of the Pentecosts, They were together united sound people came okay,

let me see ya. Okay. So God gave us the Holy Spirit

to help us with the last commandment that Jesus left us. What is the

last commandment meant you twenty eight nineteen twenty go you therefore to all the nations.

Yeah, make disciples, not just preach. Make disciples. There's a

difference. Now, make disciples and baptizing them in the name of the Father,

the Son of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe, follow all

that I have you know, shared with you, and I will be with

you to the end of the Ah. Do you know there are few truths

there? Number one. We got to go and not just preach the word,

but make disciples. Okay, make disciples? Why is mixingciples doing life

with people? We are very big on that here in X. You don't

understand what make disciple is. Say hey, I want to join a hordle.

Are there? You understand? It is the most scary, difficult and

fulfilling thing ever they have decided to do in your life. Because once you

do that, it's not about you anymore. That's the crazy thing. But

for those of us who struggle and come out of it, we have gained

much because of that. Our faith is strengthened because we are disciples. Amen,

make disciples, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son of

the Holy Spirit. How many of you here baptize? Ready? You see

why I did that. If you're not baptized, get baptized. It is

an outward declaration that I'm following Jesus. Baptized, no matter how how young

you are. Don't think that it's not important. It is scripture. Are

you fulfilling scripture? Not baptizing name and then teaching them. Do you know

that you can't teach someone unless you yourself know? You have to know first

you teach no, so you got to study first, la, then after

that you teach other people. Hey, you know, I think God can

heal. No, all we need to do is believe. I need to

we need to lay you know. Oh, what's the significance about making disciples

or planting church? Or why shouldn't I swear as a believer? Why shouldn't

I watch nonsense on Netflix as a believer? Teach people? Right? Oh,

we should forgive so that we can peace. That's all Jesus teaching right.

And the Holy Spirit is there with us. I will be with you.

The Holy Spirit is so significant when we live this life on our own.

It's very difficult. Do you know that it is so difficult if you

were to just rely on the word of God and don't have the Holy Spirit.

Even that it's powerfuler, but it'll be tough. You know why?

Because you know what? You know what I now I term it this way.

So let me use discipleship as an example. What is discipleship to me?

Discipleship is a customized do you customized journey? Of guidance to follow Jesus.

Do you know who is the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit is our

counsellor, he's our trainer to customize your workout in Christ. Let me share

with you more and thet I'll go a bit into that example. So who

is the Holy Spirit and why is he important to us? Okay? This

is what the Bible says, not why I say. And this is what

the Bible says. First, we have to understand he is God. Holy

Spirit is God, very clear, He's God. First Content six nineteen.

Let's read that. Or do you not know that your body, your body

is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you

have from God. And you are not your own? That line itself are

is so weighted your body doesn't belong to you anymore. My body, my

choice by this scripture is a no. I don't know how many of us

can accept that. Right, It's the temple of the Holy Spirit we have

from God. He's God. Okay, he is a gift when we repent

and are baptized x Chapter two, Ust the eight. That's what happened.

That's what he said, that he's a gift when we repent. And baptize.

Then, Peter say to them, repent and let everyone of you be

baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you

shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Hey, let me talk a

little bit about this. Things need to be in order. What is the

order repent and be baptized. Receiving Jesus is not just about receive Jesus as

your best friend and that's it. You know, guys, do you know

what repentance is? This something I don't really hear much preach in church.

When I said church, I'm not talking about X. I'm talking about overall.

We share about how good God is, but we don't talk about repentance.

You know, repentance is Repentance is a turn from your evil ways and

don't do them anymore. Stop it, Stop watching on, stop doing things

that is not good for you. Stop it, repent, stop your tongue.

No, Jesus is accepting. He will accept you for who you are.

Yes, that's true. I'm not against that he is. But the

moment you receive him, you have to change. There is repentance. We

preached the message of acceptance, but we forget repentance. No, guys,

it comes hand in hand. He will accept you. He will. It

means, no matter what you did in your life in the past, no

matter what happened your life in the past, Jesus will still accept you.

Yes, yes, I agree. But to follow him, we have to

repent. Why are people still living under bondage? No repentance yet? You

know how hard is it to live a life of freedom when you still go

back to bondage. It's tough. Right when someone is addicted to drugs,

he have to not do it anymore. Oh no, no, no,

he'll be fine. Just continue. No. Addiction is a very good example

of repentance. Have to change so that you won't get into the addiction anymore.

So we got to know that we have to repent. That's what I

said. No wonder why my life staled like that? Well, these have

to happen. First we repent, we follow Jesus Holy Spirit. Come,

he will guide us. That's what happens. It has to come in order.

There's no other way around it. This is what the Bible says.

Just following out the Bible says, he's a gif. We get a gif.

Why our trainer we get a trainer. Wow, you know, I'm

so thankful for But because he's my coach, my training regime is different than

other people. Why I cannot reach that level yet. But he's remembering what

I can do and cannot do. And he's also encouraging me. That's what

he does. And because of that, I can, you know, continue

exercise. I can continue to do bigger things. I sight myself up more.

How many of you like that for your faith, that you have a

personal trainer for your faith? That is who the Holy Spirit is? God?

Wish scripture to read now? Wish what I need to understand more?

Got my life now? Right? When I go in through a life?

What is the area that I have struggled with? Do you know that God

reveal to you? Is it relationships? Is it addiction? Is it you

cannot give easily? Is it you cannot receive easily? How funny is that?

Right? I'm beginning to meet people who will very have to receive things.

No, no, no it, I'll do it myself. No need

to help. We have to receive, freely, receive, freely give a

functional human being. That's what we all aim to be. Jesus is the

most functional human being ever, Thank God, what is the struggle? We

have? Let the Holy Spirit come and take over. But first we got

to decide. I need to repent for my ways. I need to say

stop it. It's not going to be easy journey. Yes, stop it,

but I got to move on. Then you will experience the more of

God in your life. It is a choice we have to make. It's

God good that he will come and change. He will know. Do you

know that? For some of us is willing to do that. But we've

got to repent first before God can do things. Because God is so kind,

He will never allow us to be stuck in a place. He will

never allow Sometimes some of the challenges we face in life today we think that

God's not there. Actually, God is kind to us because if he does

anything, you will take it for granted and he won't change. He doesn't

want you to do that. He wants you to change. He wants you

to change for the better. He wants you to experience peace. He wants

you to experience life with him. He wants you to experience bigger things.

But we've got to make the decision is free of truth. John fourteen fifteen

to eighteen let's read. If you love me, keep my commments, and

I'll pray to the Father he will give you another helper. That's the Holy

Spirit, right, and he may abide with you forever, the Spirit of

truth, whom the world cannot receive because it neither sees him nor knows him.

But you know him. For I duellos with you and will be with

you. I will not leave you offense. I will come to you.

It is so significant, this thing about truth today, so significant because as

I see what's happening on social media, see what's happening in the news,

there's a lot of deception out there. There's a lot of half truths out

there. There's a lot even in faith, even in things I read.

It does a lot of half truths out there. You know, you want

to know how to save true all this nonsense? Holy Spirit, Lord,

what is the truth? Know the truth and the trooper sham set you free?

Right? What is the truth? Lord? What is the truth?

Can you show me the truth? I'm tired of listening to people. I'm

tired of no show me the truth and the truth me free. Is there

anything that I'm believing that is stopping me from experiencing the more of you show

me the truth. The spirit of truth will speak to your life. Are

you feeling this sense of you know something I come to this space. Are

you feeling this sense of ah, there must be something more than this?
