Good Friday Message | Elder Terence

Okay, praise the Lord this day. We have a word.

I have a word for you, and I pray that

you will be blessed even as I'm blessed to share it.

Let's look to one John four ten. See what it says.

One four ten. Yes, and this is love, not that

we loved God, but that he loved us and sent

his son to be the propitiate propitiation for our sins. Wow,

there's a big word. You know that when we do

wrong we face consequence, right, isn't it true? And there

always has to be something that happens as a result

of consequence. A couple of days ago, I had the

opportunity to meet with one of my teachers who's now

Dato because his guru. All right, many years ago, fifty

years ago, he taught me and I met him at

the funeral of a friend's wife. So there he was.

He was sharing with us because a few other school

meets around, and then he was saying, you know, my son,

his son, so I'm telling his story, O kid, my

son in school. This happened many years ago. And one

prefect came up to me and said, your son's hair

is long. So he was a senior assistant in school,

so he's second only to the principal. So he called

his son to the principal's office and there the principal

was there, and he was there. Then he looked at

his son and he said, a prefect came and complained

that your hair is long. When you go home today,

get money from your mother, go and cut your hair.

Then he asked the principal for a cane, and he

caned his son twice in front of the principal. These

were how they treated kids long ago. Right, So those

who are new parents, please don't be shocked. Okay, but

he said, the principal was shocked. Now the principal is

used to caning kids. Okay. I got to tell you.

He was a you know brother. He was a brother

of the you know, the brothers of the Christian schools

of those days. They wore white robes. So he had

his cane inside his shirt. So he was like the

first wolverine, not the clause, but the kin. So he

is used to canine kids. But he was so surprised

that the senior sistant can his own son in front

of him, and he asks, why why did you do

such a thing. He said, because somebody complained, and I

cannot show favoritism Jesus many years ago. Jesus was given

up as a sacrifice for our sins. You know why,

because there's an accuser of the brethren. You know what.

The scripture says that the devil, the enemy, goes up

to God or goes within God's hearing, and he's accusing

you and me every day. This guy he did wrong.

That guy, he did wrong. And what has God got

to do? Do you think God can show favoritism? Wrong

is wrong and wrong needs to be punished. So God

knew that you and I could not handle the punishment.

So what did he do? He put his own son

as a substitute. You know what. Scripture says, he did

not spare his own son. And thank God for that.

Because of Jesus, we don't have to go to the

principal's office and get king. But trust me, the enemy

is not so keen in just caning you, because the

enemy wants to do much more than that. And we're

going to discover this a little bit, all right. So propitiation.

The meaning of this word means an atoning sacrifice of

an angry foreign angry God, of an angry God to

cover to atone to make reconciliation. God, your God in

mind was all about us being restored. And Good Friday,

we were restored. Praise the Lord for that. We remember

that day because that's the day our penalty was paid.

That's the day we received a new kind of freedom,

a new kind of a joy, one where love one through.

In Scripture John three sixteen, it says for God's soul

loved the world that he gave his only begotten son,

that whosoever believes in him should not perish but have

everlasting life. The word love here is a guppy. It

means an unconditional love. So God's unconditional love caused him

to give Jesus as a sacrifice for us. If there's

any one of you here that does not know who

Jesus Christ is, this is the one who was given

because God loved you, and God did not want you

to go it alone. I mean, I hear what Hedlin

you shared. Man, you had to go through this alone,

or you felt like you needed to go through alone.

God was with you every step of the way. And

you know what, you're right because any time a motorcyclist

bangs you, you know who's at fault. As far as

the police are concerned, you are at fault. And you

know you can never claim from over recycles insurance, right,

but you could praise the Lord. That's a blessing. See,

that's God. You know, God's love was so sacrificial, so unconditional,

that it just lets you know you and I were different,

we're different. We have received that love because we recognize it.

You know that the world was given this love. Everybody

was given this love. But why is not the whole

world sitting in here today? Because some have chosen not

to recognize it. You see, the Bible says for we

are a chosen people. You know that God has chosen us.

So some people get offended when they say, ah, what

so that means I'm not chosen. I'm not a Christian,

I'm not chosen. They don't get it. You were all chosen.

Everybody was chosen. But you see the choice is still

yours to receive it or not I choose. Let's say

to give all of you a cup of orange. Okay,

so let's say, the cups of orange are all day,

all right, but you can choose whether to drink it

or not. But you see, you were chosen to give it.

I could have given it to everybody in another room,

but I want to give it to people in this room.

But those of you who don't like orange will not

drink it. Whose choice, Your choice, my choice, So the

number of I just want you to know. There's a

side note, all right, because we're going to get to

what Jesus went through. Do you know that the Bible

says that Jesus received a whipping because of us. So

I told you the story about this boy who received

the two lashes from his father. He later on became

the I hate prefect of the school. So I just

met him the other day, met him in a coffee

He's actually now in the States, but I went to

a coffee shop and there he was. So I want

you to know, we should have received the lashes that

Jesus received, the beating. We should have got it. You

know that scripture does not say how many lashes that

Jesus received. I was quite surprised because I always thought

it was thirty nine. I always thought it was thirty nine,

But when I went to study it, actually, in all

the Gospels it never says that Jesus received thirty nine lashes,

But in fact, thirty nine lashes is a Jewish thing.

But who were the ones beating him? The Romans the

Omens were beating Jesus, not the Jews. So I just

want to let you know that where does it say, well,

Paul refers to thirty nine forty minus one. He refers

to it five times in the Epistles. Paul refers to it,

and he refers to it like that's what Jesus also received.

I want you to know that there are thirty nine

medical science, thirty nine ways that cause death. Did you

know that. I used to think it was thirty nine

categories of sicknesses and diseases. No, no, no, no, it's

thirty nine different ways or causes that people die from.

Jesus took those lashes so you and I do not

have to die spiritually. He took those lashes so that

we can live. But these were not the only things

that happened to Jesus. Jesus went through I'm just going

to talk about twelve things, but I'm quite sure there

were more things. That he went through for us. Well,

you know, this is what the Lord put in my heart.

So I will just share with you these twelve things,

the twelve things that Jesus did for us. In Matthew

twenty six fifty, it says, but Jesus said to him, friend,

why have you come? Then they came and laid his hands.

They laid hands in Jesus and took him. Jesus was

attacked by mobs. No one is like to be attacked

by moms. You and I don't ever want to find out.

I have been mugged before. When I was thirteen or

fourteen years old, I was going to the shop and

these two guys came on a bike. They punched me

in the face and stole my watch. Wasn't a nice feeling,

and there was only two guys. But praise the Lord,

my father took me the next day to the watch

up and brought me a new watch. But you know,

praise the Lord that none of us have been beaten

by mobs, but Jesus took that. So sometimes when you

feel the whole world is coming against you, when you

feel in your office that the whole world is coming

against you, when you feel like, oh, three things happened

this man or this year, and it's just closing in

on me. I want you to know that Jesus took

the attack of mobs for you, and that should give

us courage because this same God, this same Jesus, when

he gave his life for us, knows exactly what we're

going through because he went through it first. I mean,

it's not so nice when you feel the whole world

is against you, isn't it. But Jesus.

Is there.

I mean, I've had incidents where I felt like everybody's

against me. You know, I've had that, and every one

of those situations, when God is finished, I'm the last

man standing when God comes to my rescue. Trust me,

you feel sorry for the people He's come against. You

don't feel good about it. And I have seen God

do that ty countless times. So Jesus took the attack

of mobs so that you and I don't have to

face that alone. God, everybody is coming against me, Be

strong and of good courage, Be not frightened, neither be

this me. For either Lord your God am with you

wherever you go. Wonderful, isn't it? In Matthew twenty six

fifty nine to sixty one. Now the chief priests, the elders,

and all the counsels sought false testimony against Jesus to

put him to death, but found none. Even though many

false witnesses came forward, they found none. But at last

two false witnesses came forward and said, this fellow said,

I am able to destroy the Temple of God and

build it in three days. You know what Jesus was

lied about. And here we are. We feel so sorry

when people lie about us. Come on, how many of

you just studying out in your careers, just studying out work,

young working adults? Can I see it? Sure? Hands, just

raise your hands. How many of you? How many of

you have been in working life for five years and under? Okay,

how many of you have been in working life for

ten years and under? How many of you don't know

what it is to work? Can I ask you this question?

In your office? Have you been lied about? How many

of you have experienced been lied about? How many of

your experience being sold out and the truth not being

told about you to get you into trouble? Hey, Jesus

faced it first. Yeah, when you get into that situation, God,

what am I gonna do. He said, keep quiet. Did

Jesus answer, hey're telling eyes about mere? No? What did

he do? He kept quiet because God would come through. Hey, guys,

this good Friday. Thank God. Jesus kept quiet. He showed

us how to do it. You know, because if you

think you can defend yourself, it's not gonna work. You

just keep quiet, saying God, take them. No, seriously, God,

you know what he is like, isn't it when they

lie about you? You said you didn't say anything. You

kept quiet. I'm following you example. Take them and God,

remember what scripture says, what is said in secret will

be made. No. God knows how to vindicate you, and

I God knows how to come through. Thank you. I've

got thirty minutes. Thank you. What did you show that

on your tablet? No? No, that there was a plus? Okay,

it looks like a tablet. Okay, okay. So he was

lied about now Matthew twenty six sixty two, and the

High Priest arose and said to him, do you answer nothing?

What is it that these men testify against you? Jesus

had to face authorities. He had to face people in

power who were wicked, who may not have been kind.

How many of us have to face sometimes unkind bosses.

I hope some of us are not unkind bosses. You

know how many of you have had to face unkind

teachers or someone who was not good to you? Do

you fall to pieces just because someone is you know,

you have to? Oh, I got to face this. But

I'm so afraid. It's okay to feel afraid because Jesus

went through the same thing. And what did he do?

He said, nothing? What you're not going to answer me here?

You know, I had one boss call me up and said,

where are you? I said, I'm in church. Spoke she

answered the phone spoke, he's preaching the word? You tell him?

Is he God more important or he's worth more important?

She told him that. He told her that when after

the message, I'm a human being. Okay, I smile, but

I can get very angry, and I did. I got

very upset. And I remember when where it was his

next claim, And as a walking to the lift, I

looked at Elder Mabel and I said, because he said this,

this is what's going to happen to him, not a

nice thing. And it did. But the best part was

he was my friend. But the word of the Lord came.

This is what was going to happen to him, and

it happened. Was a nice God knows when you have

to face authorities, you're not alone. Hey, they have to

be afraid of your God. They have to treat you

with truth. People who come into your presence don't know this,

but they have to treat you with truth, because there's

a God who's looking at how people treat you. And

when people mistreat you, you think your God and mine

sits there and says well done. No, he takes note.

And God knows how to come to your rescue. God

knows how to come to your rescue. Don't be afraid

face authorities. In Matthew six sixty seven sixty eighty says

they spat in his face and beat him, and others

struck him with the palm of their hands, saying prophesy

to us Christ, who is the one who struck you.

Jesus was shown contempt. When somebody spits at you, they're

saying you're the lowest of the low. I spit on you.

You're nothing. That is shown contempt. Do you know that

Jesus did not want people to us contempt, so he

took it upon himself, the Lord of Lords and the

King of Kings, who left the throne of heaven, came

down on earth to be spat on by the ones

he created. Oh, even as I'm telling you this, the

hairs on my hand all standing. Jesus took contempt for us.

No one can show you contempt, because when they show

you contempt, you can go to Jesus, say, Jesus, you

took this on my behalf. I don't have to face

this anymore. Lord, take care of me, come to my rescue.

You know, Good Friday was amazing. That's about right, I

think about when there's about right, it's okay, Okay, wow, amazing. Okay.

So I think the Lord wants you to hear, not

want you to see. Okay. I think that was about

that has never happened before. Okay, praise the Lord. So God,

you know you gotta understand, all right, the Holy Spirit

wants you to know that when Jesus died in the

cross for you, and it was good Friday, when he sorry,

when he went through all those issues on your behalf,

in my behalf, it wasn't just for fun, you know.

Can I ask you Jesus came to die for us sins. Okay,

So if he died for our sins and he rose again,

the matter is settled, right, Craig or not? Why did

he need to get go through all this hassle? Why

not just come go to the cross and be done

with it. Why did he have to go through all

this hassle, be spat upon face authorities? Why did he

have to do all this? You mean to sayer? When

in those days, you know how how they had to

bring sacrifice to the God, to the Lord. Right, they

had to bring lambs and and and cows, and you

know they bring it and then they sacrifice to the Lord.

What they bash up the cow before the sacrificer? Do

they whack that? They living their lights out of the

the animal before they sacrifice? Do they scirge it and

beat it? Do they do all those things? They don't?

So why why is it? Why is it that Jesus

had to go through when all he actually needed to

do was sacrifice his life for us to be saved.

But you see, good Friday is good Friday because life

is much more than that. There is an enemy who

is out to get you. And Jesus was tearing that apart,

bit by bit by bit. So you and I much

more than just be saved, don't have to go through

a life filled with issues. Okay, do you get it?

It's all right. I don't think you'll be able to

have a scarier sounded like an explosive book. So now

you just have to listen, right, Matthew six seventy two.

Matthew six seventy two, what does it say? It says?

But again he denied with an oh, I do not

know the man. Do you know that Jesus was denied

by people who should have loved him? So when your

loved ones sometimes deny, you don't fall to ps love.

It happened to Jesus. Do you know one thing? Do

you see jesus mother or brothers or sisters around that

time when he was going through this, even his family

deserted him. Do you know how alone Jesus fell? You see,

we only think about Peter with the story about Peter

denying him, right, but what about his family? What about

his brother James? What about his mother? What about all

these people? Where were they? Where was mother? Where was Mary?

Where was Lazarus? Jesus was denied? Jesus went through this,

so you and I don't have to fall to pieces

when we are denied. So when you get overlooked at

work and the promotion went to somebody else, Jesus, you

know how it feels. Helped me. You and I need

never be denied because Jesus took it for us. Good Friday.

Let's go on. Matthew twenty seven too. And when they

had bound him, how many of you have been bound before?

Have you ever been bound before? Tied up? Cannot get out?

Locked up? He's not quite the same. It's not quite

the same as closer. I was studying in Singapore and

I was in a lift with six of my girl

classmates and we were up on the twenty fifth floor.

I think we're visiting something. Somebody for Chinese knew something

like that. And then the lifts talled, lights went out,

and for half an hour I was in the lift

alone with six screaming girls. I felt like I was bound.

I felt like Paul in silence and the jail in

the dungeon, and I'm worshiping and said, God, get me

out of here, six screaming girls. It's not the same,

it's not say with what Jesus went but Jesus was bound. Hey,

was Jesus a dangerous criminal? This was a man who healed,

who lifted up the lame, who healed somebody's sight, who

raised the dead, who fed five thousand. But they bound him.

So when we are doing right and people try and

bind us with their words, or bind us with their thoughts,

or bind us with their actions, it's going to be okay,

because they did it to Jesus. First. Just think about it.

Here was I mean, if he was sam so I understand,

not bind the guy. But the most physical action that

it showed Jesus doing was chasing those fellows out of

the temple. That was it. That was the most violent

thing you saw him do. But they bound him. So

is it any wonder if they bound Jesus, they will

not bind you? And you and I sometimes know we

need to be bound. Okay, were a little bit crazy sometimes. Matthew,

the second pilot of twenty seven to It says this,

And they led him away to be delivered. They led

him away and delivered him to punch Us pilot the governor.

He was abandoned to strangers. You know, it's one thing

being bound, it's another thing to be abandoned. How many

of us feel abandoned sometimes to feel us in there's

nobody around us who can help. We've been denied, we

have been left alone. We feel bound, and now we

have been left to rot. That's what it feels like

to be abandoned. See these things that I'm telling you

are real, because this is what the enemy messes around

in your mind. Or I feel so abandoned. Hey, Jesus

went through it first, and he took it for you.

So when you get that way, all those thoughts come

in your head, you can go to Jesus and say, hey, Lord,

you know what it's like. Help me. The scripture says,

because of Good Friday, he will come through for you.

The governor answered, this is Matthew twenty seven twenty one.

The governor answered and said to him, which answered, and

said to them, which of the two do you want

me to release to you? They said, Barabas Jesus was rejected.

I say this again. He was rejected by these people

whom he fed. The same ones who a few days

earlier were waving palm branches at him, were now calling

for him to be crucified. What's it with us that

we fall to pieces when we are rejected, and it's real.

I've been rejected before many times. You know when many

years ago, when I was interested in Elder Mabel, I

prayed for her for so long. Then I went up

to her and say, I've been praying for you when

you pray for me? She said no. I was rejected,

so rejected, so dejected. So I actually decided to migrate

to Australia. Then just before it came through us, she

came up to me and say, I think I will

pray with you. Then after that she chased me for three.

Years, chase me, I chase me, chase and then three

years later I said, okay, so I want.

You to know that if you are rejected, if you

are rejected in love, it's okay. It's okay. You mean

to say, thats the only person that God can find

somebody for you. But she did not know I was

the one for her. God had to slap some sense

into her and then find me. She's so but it's okay.

Took a little bit of time, but never mind. We

made it and now we've been married for thirty seven years,

thirty five years, thirty five years, thirty six thirty six years,

thirty six thirty six years. You know, until today, we

still don't go on holidays separately. You know, we never

go on holidays. Have been thirty six years, thirty six years.

We still go on holidays together. When you are a partner,

you're a partner. There's no solo in partner. I get

the impression. I just got to share this with you.

And I don't know why, but I've shared this in

all the other plans, but maybe not here. See. God

knows when you're alone. God knows when you got no help,

and he will be there for you. During the pandemic,

I had this opportunity to meet up with how much

time do I have? Ten minutes? Okay? I got to rush. Okay.

I had this friend who got in contact with me

and we were, you know, just chatting on the Facebook.

And then after that he said, so, I asked him,

what are you doing? He said, I'm a pastor. I

said what, You're a pastor? He said, yes, and you

are to blame. Ah, I haven't seen you in thirty

five years. This is a school meet in Singapore. How

am I to be responsible for you being a pastor?

He says, don't you remember what you wrote in my

autograph book? He said, are you crazy? This is the

first time I'm talking to you in thirty five years,

the first time I'm talking to you since I left school.

You think I can remember what I wrote in the

autograph book. The people I'm talking to right now, some

of them don't even know what an autograph book is.

Do you all know what is an autograph book? Summer? No,

it's a book where when you leave school, Before you

leave school, you write down roses are red, violets are blue,

people like you should be in a zoo. That kind

of thing. Ah, you know, said autograph books. So don't

you remember, I said, I No, I don't. Are you

kidding me? He said, this is what you wrote. He says,

if ever you run into trouble, call on the name

Jesus and he will come and help you. This guy

was a rich, rich guy. He was the only boy

in Singapore who had his own car, at least in

my school. He was really, really rich. He was so

rich he had his own yacht. He on yacht, personal

yacht Indonesian. He said. One day he was on the

water and something happened and he was about to die.

The radio was working, not working. He had no help

from anyone. And he remembered what I wrote in the

autograph book, and he called in the name of Jesus,

and he said, Jesus came on the water and saved him.

He was alone. He called, and Jesus, Jesus came to him,

saved him. The moment he got to show, he gave

up all his riches and he went to become a pastor.

Doesn't matter whether you're alone, doesn't matter whether you're all

by yourself, doesn't matter whether you're rejected. Every time you

call him Jesus name, because of what he did so

long ago, he will be there for you. Matthew twenty seven,

twenty six. Then he released Barbus, and when he had

scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified. Jesus' body

was brutalized. This is what I said in the beginning, right,

Why not just kill him? Why was his body brutalized?

Because the enemy hates you and me for all the

wrong that we have done. The enemy wants to tear

us to bits. The enemy wants to he wants to

do such bad things to us. He wants to rip

us apart, but he can't, so what did he do?

He took it out on Jesus. No, Jesus was ripped

apart because you and I were not good. Jesus was spashed,

he was bruised, He was whipped. The whip to his

flesh because it had bones and glass and males and

when they whipped him, it wrapped around his body, and

when they pulled it, it ripped his body apart. Do

you know that's what the enemy wants to do to us?

Do you realize why it doesn't happen to us because

of Good Friday? Because Jesus took it upon himself. The

hate that the enemy has for you and me. You see,

it's much more than just dying for our sins. Jesus

also covers us from the hate of the evil one.

He looks after us from the hate of the evil one.

His body was brutalized Matthew twenty seven, twenty eight, and

they stripped him. Jesus was removed of his dignity. I mean,

come on, you already beat his body up, You've already

spat in his face, You've already thrashed him to within

each of his life, And now what do you want

to do. You want to embarrass him, so you strip him.

You and I. When we feel embarrassed, when we feel

like we've lost that dignity, we have not come close

because Jesus took it. So whenever you feel embarrassed, look

to Jesus. Look to Jesus, and he'll be Okay. He

understands what the loss of dignity is all about. He

understands what embarrassment is all about, because two thousand years

ago he went through it for you and me. In

verse twenty seven, Chapter twenty seven, Verse twenty nine is

when they had twisted a crown of thorns, they put

it on his head. Do you think what the thornes are?

Small thorns? My parents have got the thornes from Israel. Okay,

because my brother went to Israel. He brought a crown

of thorns, and my folks have got it hanging on

the staircase. The horns are at least two inches. They

are so sharp, they are like needles, and they're so

strong it's like hardwood. You can't even hold it in

your hands. They put it on his head and they

beat him in. When you have pressure, when you have

mental torture, when mentally it feels as if things are

not going so right. Jesus took it upon himself so

you and I can get relief, So you and I

can get relief. So when we feel that pain on

a head, because it seems as he mentally we are

being beaten, the thorns are being thrust upon us, Jesus

took it for you and I. That's why Jesus had

to go through what he went through, because he was

not just taking care of illnesses and sicknesses. He was

not just taking care of the salvation and bringing us

into reconciliation with God. He was taking care of our

daily lives, the daily life you and I were going

to live today. Jesus took care of it and ask

her what did they do? Lastly? Number twelve in Matthew

twenty seven thirty five. Then they crucified him. Jesus took

nales in his hands, in his feet, although the scripture

really doesn't say that in the Gospels that he was nailed,

but he did tell Thomas, feel my hands, feel my

because that was the way that the Jews crucified, that

was the way that the Romans crucified. He went through

that crucifixion, because that was the ultimate nailing of all

the sins to the cross, because at the end of

the day, it's sin that needs to be addressed. Oh,

nailed to the cross. I know we're coming to the end.

In that moment. How did Jesus respond. It's amazing that

through all these things, Jesus responded quite extraordinarily. In Luke

twenty three thirty four, it says, Father, forgive them, for

they know not what they do. Of course he didn't

sing it as a song I wrote many many years ago.

Though they nail me to a splintered cross of wood.

You think that the wood that they nailed Jesus, a

nice smooth wood got plus God, God, God, you know,

sandpaper and got varnished, and no one splinter we get

in our finger. We cannot think it. He had this

in his back. From now on they will call this

Friday good. He forgave In Look twenty three forty three.

I mean this is Jesus. He's hanging on the cross, right,

Why does he need to care for anybody? He looks

at the thief. It says, today you will be with

me in paradise. Man, Jesus hasn't even died yet, and

he's there saving somebody. And you and I who've got

this ability to say, Jesus coming to my heart in

Lord and say that we say, do what choice is yours.

Salvation is given to everybody free. If you don't receive it,

it's your business. Jesus saved. And lastly Matthew twenty seven

point fifty, Jesus yielded his spirit. The devil did not

kill Jesus. He tried, man, did he try. The enemy

tried to kill Jesus, just as all these bad things

that happened to you will try to kill you. The

good news is Jesus yielded his spirit, meaning that Jesus

gave his life for us. Scripture says he gave it

and he can take it up again. The devil didn't

take it. No one can take your life from you

if you believe it, because if it is in the

control of the Lord Jesus Christ, you always have somebody

on your side, always, always today, if you don't know

Jesus and all the call is given, make the right choice,

and once and for all. I want to end with

this scripture Hebrews ten ten. By that will we have

been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus

Christ once and four. Oh it's complete, man, it's complete.
