  1. You're listening to a message to go from axt church.

  2. We hope this message will light up your tea.

  3. We are half into the team of disciple first. Uh.

  4. This year, I'm sure you have heard so many things

  5. about disciple first discipleship. I'm sure you know's a Gloria

  6. and all the other speakers have been talking about discipleship.

  7. Different leaders are talking about discipleship to to to you guys,

  8. and in asking your maybe, uh, have you considered discipleship?

  9. Do you want to consider to be part of the

  10. discipleship because and because why we're doing this is that

  11. this year we really want to focus to go deeper,

  12. to go deeper into this discipleship that what we're supposed

  13. to be in actually it is the fundamental of being

  14. a Christian. Actually, you know, it's not just by word

  15. of mouth we say disciple first, you know, but we're

  16. saying that, no, really, disciple is the first thing you're

  17. supposed to be, you know, And we want to take

  18. intentional action in that. That's the whole purpose and desire

  19. that we're talking about discipleship to you all on and

  20. off and on and off, because that's where everything starts.

  21. You know, we talk about revival. We all, I mean,

  22. if you've been a Christian for some time, you've heard

  23. about revival and things like that. But revival will not

  24. be able to happen if there are no disciples, because

  25. who are then going to carry on what the Holy

  26. Spirit does if it's not for the disciples. So, you know,

  27. this is what we are supposed to be, disciples disciple first.

  28. So Christ did not call us to just be a

  29. believer or a practitioner, you know, or it does not

  30. call us to be just oh whatever that people call

  31. whatever religion that they follow, you know, mostly they believe,

  32. mostly they call them practitioners and things like that. But

  33. we are called to be disciples. It's it's just clear

  34. in the Bible. You know, you call everyone to become

  35. his disciple. Matthew nineteen says that, you know, go and

  36. make disciples and reaptize them in the name of Father,

  37. Son and the Holy Spirit. It's it's just clear. There's

  38. no other way around it. Become disciples, becoming disciples of

  39. Jesus Christ. That's what we're supposed to be. And and

  40. you know, and and you cannot try to say that. No,

  41. I think I'll just stay at being a believer. Oh

  42. I think I'll just stay at being a practitioner. All

  43. these things. You you you cannot do it. But because

  44. there's a clear word and understanding why the word disciple

  45. was used in the Bible. So there's this word. Okay,

  46. next one, yes, thank you. So the Greek word for

  47. disciples is actually martetis, which means a learner or a follower,

  48. you know. So it means like you are learning, and

  49. you are learning and you are following, then you are

  50. a disciple. That's what we're called to do. And it

  51. appears in the Bible, in the Gospel of X and I.

  52. In the Gospels and also in the Book of Acts

  53. for about two hundred and sixty times they refer to

  54. those who were with Jesus as his disciples, or in

  55. another word, as martetis. That's what they were referring, both

  56. of them. I mean all of them too, you know.

  57. So it starts from there. It only after that, after

  58. a Book of Acts, you read other letters, all and

  59. other books of the Bible. Well, the words like saints,

  60. brethrens believers, the elect, the servants, those who are in

  61. Christ were all used. Only after that. Those who are

  62. following Jesus were called disciple, and everything else is whatever

  63. believer for saints, those who are in Christ, brethrens and

  64. sisters in Christ. All that was only after that. None

  65. of it was before that. So it means even in

  66. the Bible, it is so clear that you become a

  67. disciple first. Then only you are a believer. Then only

  68. you are brethrens in Christ, you know, and and things

  69. like that, and you are a saint, and and all

  70. these things that the Bible mentions is only after that,

  71. you know. So our primary call from this we know

  72. is to be is disciple, to learn and follow, you know,

  73. That's what we're supposed to do. So we are called

  74. to be disciples first. That's why the whole team is

  75. disciples first, so that you learn and you follow. Yeah,

  76. you know. So I want to ask this question to

  77. all of you, you know, I like if you can respond,

  78. I hope you will respond. You know how many you will? Okay, Amen,

  79. she's so excited. How many of you here say that

  80. you are a follower of Jesus Christ or you follow Jesus.

  81. I mean you can raise your hand, you know, I

  82. mean if you're confident. If you're not confident yet, I

  83. think pass the gloria, I should talk to you. Okay, okay,

  84. so okay, there a few of you will raise your hand.

  85. So but but you know, if I how if I

  86. ask you, how do you follow Jesus? What would your

  87. answer be? How do you follow him? Said I'm a

  88. follower of Jesus, and I think a bunch of you

  89. raise your hand seventy seventy percent. That's telling us the

  90. gray only seventy percent. So if you say you are

  91. a follower of Jesus, how do you follow him? How?

  92. How is that applied in real life? You know? Because today,

  93. in today's day and entire following is a very different meaning.

  94. We're very confused about following because social media is confused

  95. as about what is following. Like, like, you know, when

  96. you follow someone in social media, what do you do?

  97. You would, uh, you know, stock their photos and you

  98. will see their feed, you know, you know, so you

  99. know you're gonna be scrolling and looking at their updates

  100. and maybe you will like, you'll double tap and you like,

  101. or you will comment wow, so pretty wow, so beautiful.

  102. I don't know what else you'll comment then yes, so funny,

  103. it's another good comment as well. You know, you might comment,

  104. and then what will happen. You will just scroll to

  105. the next and you will forget about it. Right, That's

  106. what we always do. We keep scrolling, scrolling, and we

  107. just forget about it. And you do the same thing

  108. to all those you follow on Instagram. You're not gonna

  109. like hold their picture and just keep staring at them. No,

  110. it's gonna be so weird if you do that, you know,

  111. but you will move on. You will just forget about it.

  112. But sometimes, right, we also cheat following Jesus the same way.

  113. You know, just open sometimes the Bible and then be like, wow,

  114. so good, come on Lord, and then we come to

  115. church and then yay, come on Lord, and then you're done.

  116. You're done following him, you know, that's it. And then

  117. on Monday to Saturday you're following something else. Too many

  118. things you're following, you know, because this is the truth,

  119. because we are following too many things in our life today,

  120. and there's too many noise and too much of distractions

  121. that is actually in our lives today, and we because

  122. of that, we have stretched so thin spiritually, and our

  123. attention is divided. You know, it's really our attentions are divided,

  124. so divided that we are not we can't actually follow

  125. him fully, you know. And and that's not how we're

  126. supposed to follow Jesus. True following Jesus is giving it

  127. all to him, following the way that he paved, where

  128. he did not live for himself. He lived for the

  129. Father in heaven, you know, and and nothing else. He

  130. was very clear that I am here to follow my

  131. father and do his business. Even he says in Look

  132. two forty nine, did you not know that I must

  133. be about my father's business? So that was very he

  134. was very clear of what he is following. But today,

  135. because where we are living, in the situation that we

  136. are in, we often have too many things fighting for

  137. our attention, you know. But we have to be very clear.

  138. Is Christ is the lord of all or not at all?

  139. That's it. Christ is Lord of all or not at all.

  140. There's nothing in between. There's nothing in between. You can't

  141. say I'm going to juggle Christ and I'm going to

  142. juggle something else with Christ. It's quite not right. So

  143. we have to get our priorities right first. There's no

  144. Instagram following. We cannot follow Jesus like we follow someone

  145. on Instagram or whatever the new social media is, you know,

  146. but he has to follow him genuinely. But it's a

  147. struggle to do so because many things again I repeat

  148. this again. I probably it's not like a broken record.

  149. You know that many things compete for attention today in

  150. our daily lives, and sometimes we are bound to make

  151. choices about whether to follow him or something else, even

  152. in the smallest things, you know, things like can I

  153. still find a way to make it to church? Or

  154. a long day yesterday, I'm so tired, the bed is

  155. calling me, oh ninety thy so early, so early? Can

  156. I still then make it to church? Or you know, oh,

  157. there's a concert at the mean that it was a concert.

  158. I I live in book Joel exactly, so it was

  159. so traffic, the jam was so bad because I live

  160. in Booka jalelh And And you know, would you still

  161. make it to church or you'll say that no, I

  162. think I will go for that concert instead, yeah, you know,

  163. or would you let things compete? Or can you or

  164. say that I'll at times where they say that, oh, no,

  165. on Sunday you have to work Sunday morning, No, you

  166. have to be at work. Can you and say that no,

  167. I cannot. This time is set aside for me to

  168. serve God or to be in the house of the Lord.

  169. Can we say that because that tests whether are you

  170. genuinely following or not? You know, can I set aside

  171. Tuesday nights together and pray with my church community, or

  172. you know, oh, work, I'm going to stay or stay

  173. back at work and work over time, or or I'm

  174. just too tired to socialize and at Tuesday night, so

  175. I think I'm just going to go to work. I

  176. mean I'm going to go back to home and sleep.

  177. Oh you know, would you be able to set aside time?

  178. Can we say that? Can we make a stand to

  179. say that that tests you whether are you following Christ

  180. genuinely or not? You know, it's not about attendance. I'm

  181. not saying that, oh it's because of attendants not. I'm

  182. saying that these are just the little tests. Actually, whether

  183. you can you stand and say that it makes you,

  184. It makes people around you know that your follower Christ

  185. as well. I remember a long time ago as a student,

  186. when I was a degree student in UPM. If you know,

  187. a UPM is a government uned so they love to

  188. have exams on Sundays because they're you know the MPU

  189. subjects where all faculties have to take it, you know,

  190. like Kandergata nationhood and you know Ungan Ethnic you know

  191. all those nonsense papers. Right. They used to do it

  192. on Sundays. They love to eavy on Sundays because they

  193. say like, oh, that's the day everyone can can meet together,

  194. you know, everyone free schedule. And I said no, I

  195. don't have a free schedule on Sunday morning. So I

  196. was very I didn't like that, you know, and I

  197. was growing as I was like first year, second year

  198. and third year, and I felt like this is not right.

  199. I you know, someone is to say something about it.

  200. So I actually went to my lecturer in my faculty

  201. and I told her that I'm not going to come

  202. for exam on Sunday. And she's like, what's wrong with you?

  203. And I said no, because Sunday mornings are church time

  204. for me, and you have exams on Sundays regularly, so

  205. I don't want to do that. And she's like, oh

  206. what why only you? What about everyone else? No one

  207. else is complaining? And I don't know what came in

  208. to me at that time. And I told her this boldie,

  209. I guess or I don't know. However, you want to consider,

  210. would you have exams Friday twelve thirty to two thirty?

  211. You will never do that, you know, right, because it's

  212. an important time for you and all of you. I'm

  213. not saying who is you? So you know? For you?

  214. So what about me? What about others? Then she was like, oh, actually,

  215. you're right. I wonder why no Christians came and told me,

  216. told us about this. So the faculty that I was

  217. in is the faculty that organizes this exam, because this

  218. is like the human ecology faculty. All the papers of

  219. this comes from that faculty, and the person that I

  220. was talking to is actually the dean of the faculty.

  221. So from then onwards, the following semester they decided to

  222. say that we are no longer going to have exams

  223. on Sundays anymore, especially for this paper. If any other

  224. faculty does that, then it's up to them, love, but

  225. for no more. So you will never hear a common

  226. exam on Sundays. Students these days, you know, they don't

  227. have that. It's because someone one day decided to be

  228. bold enough to go and say that, and they were

  229. completely fine with it. It's just that they was they

  230. didn't know, they didn't aware because there were no they.

  231. She mentioned this to me, Oh, come, I have never

  232. heard any Christian come and tell me about this before.

  233. So it was a stand the tests whether are we

  234. following him genuinely or not? So again I said, you know,

  235. it's not about church attendance. It's not I'm just saying

  236. this so that you will skip everything and be at church.

  237. But sometimes you can even be here physically, but your

  238. hearts are not even you know, you are probably in

  239. your phone scrolling, you know, and your hearts are not

  240. following him truly. You know, your mind is thinking, well

  241. what am I going to have for lunch? Of this?

  242. You know? You know. But but all these little decisions

  243. that you make shapes you as a follower and as

  244. a disciple. Was genuinely committed to the business of following Jesus.

  245. But you may say, oh, Chan, I'm trying so hard,

  246. but it's you know, but I can't, you know, it

  247. seems so hard. And I always get the answers because

  248. you know, I have a lot of Cambra students in Esca,

  249. and every time I challenge them, they'll be like, but chant,

  250. I'm not like you. I cannot do it, you know,

  251. I said, no, I'm not asking you to be like me.

  252. I'm asking you like Jesus. Perhaps it is something that

  253. you need to focus on this year, you know, for

  254. you maybe to do a hard check. It's your heart

  255. in the right place. Are you understanding God correctly? You know,

  256. because we can only truly grasp the concept of what

  257. is it to be a follower when we have a

  258. fundamental understanding who God is and what are his actions like?

  259. Because if we don't know who God is and what

  260. are his actions like, then we are just we can't

  261. we can't properly follow you. We probably won't follow you blindly,

  262. or we're not following at all. You know. That's why

  263. we're always finding ourselves on the fence, because we haven't

  264. really understand how God is and who God is and

  265. how does he work and what are his character? So

  266. let me ask you a question. You know, so this

  267. will boil down to how do you perceive God in

  268. your life? So I asked this question, how many of

  269. you believe? You can answer honestly, I'm seriously answer honestly,

  270. how many of you ye have believe that God is

  271. here for you. Here is your hand for you. Okay, great,

  272. what I if I tell you that that concept that

  273. you have, that belief that you have is not entirely correct,

  274. that it can be incorrect? You know? What if I

  275. tell you that God is not her for you, but

  276. we are the ones who are here for him, I

  277. don't get me wrong. Scripture does affirm that God is

  278. God's love, mercy, grace, all of this. You know. It

  279. will draw near to you, it will help you, it

  280. will save you, it will care for you. All these

  281. things He will do for you. But it does not

  282. exist for you. But we have been so used to

  283. hearing this consumeristic gospel that suggests that as do, he

  284. revolves around us, or he's here to bless you, is

  285. here to heal you, it's here to get you that promotion,

  286. is here to help you pass that exam. But no,

  287. that's not how he works. Is not your cosmic concerge,

  288. or is not your wishing well, or it's not your genie.

  289. But we are so used to it. We are so

  290. so used to this, and sometimes our worship song sounds

  291. like that, and when it doesn't sound like that, we

  292. get upset. Oh I don't like that song, you know.

  293. But let me tell you the truth is because of

  294. that understanding that we have, That's why we are never

  295. satisfied with the Gospel alone. We want more and we

  296. are constantly seeking for something more because we have not

  297. understood what it is all about, what is the true

  298. Gospel all about. That's why we cannot be consistent with

  299. the Lord. Especially when struggle comes. We're going through something

  300. we cannot fully surrender to the Lord. The first thing

  301. we do is to forsake God or for God God

  302. when struggle comes, because we are constantly needing for more,

  303. and we ask questions like this, God, why are you

  304. not doing this for me? I pray, I come to church,

  305. but nothing happening for me. We have a lot of

  306. baggages and we're still asking God this question. We get

  307. disappointed with God. This is a consum mindset that we have.

  308. I'm giving, but I'm not receiving anything in return. Yeah,

  309. you know, I don't know why I put a picture.

  310. This reminded me of This reminded me of pandemic. So

  311. you know, you know, it's a question that we have

  312. in our mind all the time. I'm giving but not

  313. receiving anything in return. I'll come not fair. Why he

  314. gets it, I don't get it. Why he got nice testimony,

  315. but I don't have nice testimony to share. Oh a

  316. pread sch it. You're gonna come get sort of place,

  317. you know. But today I want to ask you. Would

  318. you still follow him even if you did not receive

  319. the breakthrough that you've been asking for. Would you still

  320. follow him even if it does not heal you for

  321. the healing that you've been asking for, or maybe the

  322. job that you've been one thing? Would you still follow him?

  323. Would you still say, Lord, I will follow you, Lord,

  324. I love you if would you still follow him if

  325. your life is going to be filled with suffering and challenges?

  326. Would you still follow him if all you get to

  327. see is his face but never get to see his

  328. hands move in your life? Or would you still follow

  329. him if you are hated forever or even going to

  330. be persecuted for the rest of your life? Would you

  331. still follow him? You know, because the Bible stays that clearly.

  332. You know from Luke nine twenty three to twenty four

  333. says that then he said to them all, if anyone

  334. desires to come after me, let him deny himself, take

  335. up his cross. The alien follow me. For whatever desires

  336. to save his life will lose it. But whoever loses

  337. his life for my sake will save it. Look nine

  338. fifty eight says the same thing. Fox have holes. Jesus

  339. said to everyone, Fox have holes, Birds of the air nest.

  340. But the son of man has nowhere to lay his hand,

  341. He has nowhere to lay his head, has no house.

  342. Would you still follow Jesus if he has not given

  343. you a house to stay? John fifteen twenty says, remember

  344. the word I said to you. A servant is not

  345. greater than his master. If they persecuted me, they will

  346. also persecute you. That's not a good life. None of

  347. it sounds good right now. It sounds comfortable. Imagine not

  348. having an ice house but air con on. You need

  349. to be sleeping on a mat all day. Yeah, so

  350. what if that's what God calls you. But that's the

  351. life written for followers. Really. No part in the Bible,

  352. No part where Jesus says that I'll give you everything

  353. you asked for. No part of the Bible says that

  354. I'm going to give you a comfortable, good life. Yeah,

  355. No part of the Bible says, But again I said,

  356. the consumeristic gospel that we believe for so long is

  357. what is making us so challenging. It makes us so

  358. challenging to accept this, makes it so hard for us

  359. to actually swallow this that life is going to be

  360. full of suffering and challenges, because I will boldly say,

  361. that's what the devil wants. The devil's plan is to

  362. cause us to forget and ignore the history of early

  363. believers and disciples. Because if you read the Bible, and

  364. if you read after if you read the Book of Acts,

  365. and if you continue to read the history of the churches,

  366. none of these disciples at a good, peaceful death. None

  367. of them went back. Oh, I have served the Lord

  368. all my life. Let me now rest and sib Pinacolada

  369. while I see the world pass by. No, they all

  370. land gruesome death, you know. But that's what the devil's

  371. intention is, to cause us to forget and ignore the

  372. fact and as far as the fact that persecution and

  373. suffering has always been part of the follower's life, you know,

  374. and more importantly, help makes us forget the true meaning

  375. of the gospel. You know. What it makes us do

  376. is it makes us suddenly very suddenly desire for three things. Praises, position,

  377. and possession. This is why church we are never satisfied,

  378. because if we examine our lives closely, we'll find that

  379. our lives revolves around these three things. Yeah, either after

  380. people's praises, validation, well done, well done. I'm not saying

  381. don't say that, but I'm saying that sometimes it happens,

  382. or we have to position, or I did not get

  383. the position. I want to be there, I want to

  384. be this. I want to be the CEO. I want

  385. to be the COO, CFO or any os out there. Possessions.

  386. I want that nice car, I want the nice house.

  387. I want nice, this nice, that everything nice. And it

  388. makes us revolve our lives around these things that we

  389. forget a sense of being a true disciple for Christ.

  390. And that's what the devil wants. You know. The devil

  391. is never fear afraid when you when you even sin,

  392. because the devil knows your sins have been forgiven already.

  393. The devil is not afraid, you know, of Christians. But

  394. he's afraid. It's not it's not really you know, it's

  395. it's afraid of Christians that remember what they're calling is

  396. Remember what this mean to be a true disciple is

  397. it's not afraid of Christians, but it's afraid of a

  398. true disciple. It's because it's easy to be a Christian

  399. in today's life, but it's harder to be a disciple

  400. that would do follow him regardless of anything. Even when

  401. you don't hear his voice, still follow him, still obey,

  402. still do Even when I don't get blessings, I still follow.

  403. Still obey Harder. It's easier to come and sit and

  404. hear Wow, such good messages and then just go back

  405. and live our lives daily like normal. But that was

  406. not afraid of us, I said, it has made us

  407. forgotten what we're supposed to do true the world and

  408. the attention that He has pulled us into. Really, so

  409. if they come back again, come back again, that we

  410. exist for him, because we have worn over and we

  411. are no longer belong to ourselves. We no longer belong

  412. to ourselves. And the true gospel is that God sent Jesus,

  413. they paid for us the ultimate price and redeem us

  414. from hell. Already the souls have been worn over, and

  415. now we only need to do is live for God

  416. and do his will first Guarentian six nineteen twenty says

  417. that you are not your own, for you were bought

  418. at a price. Therefore, glorify God in your body and

  419. in your which are God's second. Corinthians five fifteen says,

  420. and He died for all, that those who live should

  421. no longer live for themselves, but for him who died

  422. for them and rose again. Christ died for us, And

  423. we have been worn over, and He has redeemed us

  424. from hell. That itself is enough, that itself is true fulfillment,

  425. that itself is true satisfaction. You know that victory alone

  426. is worth celebrating already that like hello everyone, we will

  427. not go to hell. We will not be in an

  428. eternal life where God doesn't exist, but we will be

  429. with Him in his presence, in his glory, in his

  430. triumphed over hell. If my God has triumphed over Hell

  431. and rescue me from the flames of that pit, do

  432. you really think he will abandon me to be hungry?

  433. Do you really think that he's going to let me

  434. be mocked? Do you really think he's gonna let me

  435. find anxiety, fear and all the other things alone. That's

  436. how he's supposed to be a gospel. You've God, save

  437. me from the pits of hell? Is he gonna abandon me?

  438. Is he gonna let me suffer alone? You will never.

  439. That's how we should were. The gospel God wants is

  440. to grow, not to be engrossed in ourselves. This gospel,

  441. if you believe it this way, if you know that

  442. we are done, we are worn already, so I can

  443. say yes to anything, be curse. I know the destination

  444. that I'm getting to. I can live no matter how

  445. God has called me to do, even if it's, you know,

  446. with just dirty rags. I will still be able to

  447. live because the destination is already set ready. And then

  448. if you believe that, if you walk like that, I

  449. tell you the gospel will take you through a beautiful

  450. adventure in your life. It'll be all about the journey

  451. because the destination is already set. You already know your destination,

  452. so now it's the journey. So it doesn't matter you're

  453. fifteen or fifty. I can tell you the true Gospel

  454. will make it all about the journey that you're in.

  455. And every adventure you will be willing to commit. You'll

  456. commit to it the Lord tells you, go do that

  457. you'll say, oh, will do it no matter what's the cost,

  458. because I know what's my destination. It's like that. That

  459. is true gospel. But you might say, but China, I'm

  460. not ready, I'm not perfect yet. I need to think first,

  461. or the standard template. I need to pray about it first.

  462. What about this? What about that? But wait, nowhere am

  463. I telling you? Or even the Bible is telling you

  464. that you must be ready before you come to him,

  465. or that you must be perfected before you come to him.

  466. No way, the Bible says that that you must be

  467. a perfect person, then only you come. No, that's legalism,

  468. that is completely empty gospel. The gospel is not fixed yourself.

  469. Then come to God. The gospel has come to God

  470. and he will change you. But most of us missed

  471. this part. We say that I'm not ready yet to

  472. commit because I think I'm not good enough yet. I

  473. think I'm not perfect enough yet. Oh give me some time.

  474. But we I mean, even if you give you some time,

  475. we won't be doing anything about it. But but really,

  476. because we always think that I must be perfect for sn.

  477. But the gospel is come to God and he will

  478. change you. Isaiah one eighteen says come now. That is reason. Together,

  479. says the Lord. Though your sins are like scarlet, they

  480. shall be white as snow. Look. Five thirty two says

  481. that those who are well and no need of a physician,

  482. I have no need for a physician, but those who

  483. are sick. I have not come to call the righteous,

  484. but the sinners to repentance. Jesus is the one that

  485. qualifies the unqualified. If you come to him broken, it'll

  486. make you whole. If you come to him sinful, he

  487. will give you righteousness. If you come to him empty,

  488. he will feel you. You don't need to get ready

  489. to come to God. You come to God and you

  490. make you ready. You know, do we realize that it's

  491. actually prideful to believe that you must be perfect and

  492. completely right before committing your life to Jesus. It's actually

  493. a pride if you say that, no, I have to

  494. perfect first, be perfected first before I come to Jesus.

  495. Because do you really think your method of fixing things

  496. is superior to God's way? Do we really think our

  497. way of fixing ourselves is perfect or better than how

  498. God is going to do it? It's actually a pride?

  499. Or do we really think that you can perfect yourself

  500. without fully committing your life to Jesus. It's the same,

  501. you know, worrying, it's also pride. Being anxious and worried

  502. is also pride because it's also showing that we are

  503. thinking into it so much. You're worried about it so

  504. much that to the point that we think that we

  505. can solve it better, or that we can come with

  506. the outcome better than our God. Above. It's worrying. It's

  507. actually some sort of pride because we think that we

  508. are in control and we keep on thinking about it

  509. and modeling about it and worried about it. But the

  510. outcome is in God's hand. So we just need to

  511. come to a place where we have to say that, no, God,

  512. I really cannot but let me just come to you.

  513. How do we do that? There are three things we

  514. can do. It's become selfless. We come, step fast, and

  515. you surrender. Let's read Philippines. Philippians two was five to eleven.

  516. If you have your Bibles with you and you can

  517. turned to Philippians two, five to eleven. Is he gonna

  518. be on the screen? Yes, all right, so believers too,

  519. there's five to eleven says this He must say, have

  520. the same anthitude that Christ. Jesus had. Though he was God,

  521. he did not think equally think of equality with God

  522. as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his

  523. divine privileges. He took the humble position of a slave

  524. and was born as a human being. And when he

  525. appeared in human form, he humbled himself in obedience to

  526. God and died as a criminal's death on a cross. Therefore,

  527. God elevated him to the place V's honor and gave

  528. him the name worth all other names, that at the

  529. name of Jesus, every knee should bow in heaven, on

  530. earth and under the earth, and every tongue confessed that

  531. Jesus is Lord to the glory of God the Father. Amen.

  532. So in this verse Paul teaches us what we should

  533. what we should do to be like Christ, will accomplish

  534. all three things. That he was selfless, he was stepfast,

  535. and he surrendered. So this is one of the most

  536. important messages or passages in the Bible. So we talk

  537. about selflessness. You know, in the Bible, selflessness is expressed

  538. in many ways. So in Hebrew usually the term that

  539. is used is said it means covenantal loyalty, you know,

  540. because there's a covenant. So I expressed it through sacrificial

  541. love and care in Greek as agape, which is self

  542. giving and sacrificial love. But in this verse, particularly in

  543. verse seven, in this passage, Paul uses a different Greek word,

  544. which stands for canoe. Canoe means to empty itself. It

  545. means imagine you have a container filled with water and

  546. you pouring out the water, empty out. It's called a kinosis,

  547. or the process of emptying itself. In the human context,

  548. it will be like pouring out completely. It means giving

  549. up status, your significance, and also giving up your privilege.

  550. That's what we are called to do, to empty ourselves,

  551. just like Christ himself did it. No Verse seven says

  552. here but made himself of no reputation, taking the form

  553. of a born servant and coming in the likeness of men.

  554. He could have came to the earth like a king.

  555. You know, Jesus was the son of God. He could

  556. have came to the earth like a king. You could

  557. have just ascended, I don't know, with some royal thrones,

  558. flaming thrones, and came down like that. Oh, he could

  559. have chose to be born as the son of a

  560. king in the kingdom back then and be raised his

  561. whole life as a prince and then become a king

  562. and rule over everyone. But he did not do that.

  563. He did not do that. I always ask and I

  564. always think why I did not do that? And after

  565. a while it came to my mind, because most likely

  566. he knew that we were going to be on this

  567. earth very long after he sends back. So if he

  568. had came as a king and then he ascended, none

  569. of us would have been able to follow his ways,

  570. because firstly, not all of us are born king. So

  571. whatever he says will never be valid because because he

  572. is at a privileged place and he's talking like do this,

  573. do that, and then be like, ah, how would we

  574. do that? Now it was the king's here. Oh what

  575. would have happened is that all people would have been

  576. fighting for a throne, because if I had to be

  577. like Jesus, then I'm supposed to be a king, and

  578. then the throne after he ascended, people would have been

  579. fighting for it all the way probably until now. Like

  580. if you see any other religion in this world, that

  581. it happens the people are fighting for a throne, fighting

  582. for a position. But Christ was so clear. God was

  583. so clear when he sent Jesus down that that was

  584. not the way, because you know the way. The right

  585. way is that all of us will be able to

  586. imitate Jesus. And the easiest way for everyone to imitate

  587. Jesus is that so that he comes in an humble

  588. and lowly man that he could relate to him, and

  589. every single person that at that time was able to

  590. relate to him follow him and multiply what he taught.

  591. And there was no need for status, privilege, or social standing,

  592. or color or race or any other distinctions to follow him,

  593. because he came as so humble and common that if

  594. Jesus was sitting here, you would not knowing is Jesus.

  595. That's how he looked like, That's how he carried himself,

  596. because that's what he wanted all of us to be

  597. like as well, to be in a place or not

  598. of privilege, to be in a place where in humble

  599. and lowly manner. But that is also the hardest test

  600. of all. When Jesus comes like that and we are

  601. called to follow him, it seems true who are really?

  602. Is true? Follow us? Because we like to follow celebrities

  603. people who have great high status, people who are successful businessmen,

  604. who were successful. We're like, I want to be like him,

  605. I want to work like him. You know, almost we

  606. read everything about that person and try to say that

  607. I'm I'm just going to emulate my life towards being

  608. like him. But Jesus was the son of a carpenter,

  609. probably dressed the most you know, old clothes, probably got

  610. it from village storehouse and not unique low. Probably was

  611. wearing you know, pre love material. And I don't know,

  612. you know, he was so humble on how he walked,

  613. and no one would say that I want to follow

  614. this man. But that was the test of all whether

  615. can we empty ourselves or not. It's when Mark ten

  616. was seventeen twenty two says, you know, when the young,

  617. the rich, young ruler came and asked, good teacher, what

  618. shall I do to inherit eternal life? Jesus said to him,

  619. why do you call me good? No one is good

  620. but one that is God. You know, the com do

  621. not commit adultery, still not, still, do not false bare witnesses,

  622. do not defraud only your father and mother. And the

  623. young man says, teacher, I have all these things I've

  624. kept from my youth. And Jesus looks at him and said, Jesus,

  625. looking at him, loved him, and said to him one

  626. thing you'll like, go your way, Sell whatever you have,

  627. give it to the poor, and you will have treasure

  628. in heaven. And then come and take up the cross

  629. and follow me. When he heard that, he was so sorrowful,

  630. and he went. You can see that Jesus's measure was

  631. very clear. He minds that the Father, he only the

  632. Father in heaven, is good and perfect. And that is

  633. the true measure which none of us can keep it,

  634. because none of us here can say that I'm good

  635. and perfect. Because but this young man at that time

  636. was assuming that he was self sufficient. He was perfect

  637. because he has kept everything right. But selflessness begins when

  638. we can admit dependency to God, not our achievements, not

  639. of perfections, but to say in a place that God,

  640. I depend on you solely fully. None of it is mine,

  641. nothing is mine. I'm depending on you. And interestingly, before

  642. that passage right, Jesus says this, whoever does not receive

  643. the Kingdom of God as a little child, will by

  644. no means entered. And why Jesus says that is that

  645. reminds us that selflessness resembles a little child who is

  646. fully depending on his father. A little child has no status.

  647. The child has no privileges, the child has no money, riches,

  648. whatever name, fame, nothing, It depends all towards the father.

  649. Every child out there living off their father. You know,

  650. no five year old say that I'm an own man

  651. on my own I make my own money. No five

  652. year old saying that. But they run to their father,

  653. Give me this, give me that, I need this, I

  654. need that, feed me amongly everything to the father. And

  655. if Jesus is saying that, if we can't come with

  656. a place where we are fully depending on our father

  657. in heaven like a little child, then we have no

  658. means to enter heaven, to enter Kingdom of Heaven. So

  659. that's what we have to do. Empty ourselves. We cannot

  660. hold anything so high in our life because your wealth,

  661. your talent, your gifts, none of them can measure up

  662. to the perfectness of God. And none of the things

  663. that we will do will measure up to that as well.

  664. So only way we can come into God is by

  665. emptying ourselves and saying that Lord, I need to depend

  666. on you. I cannot live without you. We sometimes thinking that,

  667. or we can actually survive with them God, It's okay,

  668. I still have bank balance can survive me without the Lord.

  669. But no, the it's not about what we have, but

  670. it's about our heart coming to a place to say

  671. that God, without you can do nothing. I need you

  672. in my life, so we have to empty our self church.

  673. Second one, step fast. The word year uses in it

  674. is a lot of meaning as well. You know, stepfast

  675. can mean faithfulness, firmness, established, be firm in Hebrew, and

  676. then in Greek it uses you know, uh, it is endurance,

  677. patients and things like that. But we will focus on

  678. particularly just one word that was used in Philippians to aid.

  679. It says that a dry rys you know, which means

  680. which relates to Philippines was two Chapter two was eight.

  681. The states that us became obedient to the point of death,

  682. even the death of the cross. At the death of

  683. the cross, a drivers means literally means to be seated,

  684. to be fixed in a place and anchored. So if

  685. I shortly to say, you are immovable in purpose or

  686. because of the loyalty. And this word says that Jesus

  687. was fixed seated even at the point of death. He

  688. was immovable. He had an immovable obedience. And this obedience

  689. that he had was not reluctant. It was not conditional.

  690. He was not like, uh, fine, okay, Jesus, Okay, God,

  691. I'll do it for you. I'll dine and across for you. Fine,

  692. you know. Or he was not like God, if I

  693. do this air, you better do that for me. He

  694. was not like that. But he was just anchored saying

  695. that if this is your will, I'll do it. You

  696. know you're step fast? Can we do so to Church?

  697. Be unshakeable in our belief, in our loyalty to Christ,

  698. faithful to Christ, unmoved by fear, suffering or shame. Or

  699. when trouble comes, will we shake right away or will

  700. we run right away? Because Jesus stood firm even at

  701. the dead point, can we stand firm with for him?

  702. Or are we going to hide away? We're going to

  703. be set fast. Church. Don't give up so easily in

  704. your faith and at times will be more trying. And

  705. I'm sure it's hard. You know, you have struggles, you

  706. have challenges, you have pain, and I'm not You're also

  707. talking to you from like high place where I've got

  708. everything figured out, but I go through struggles every day,

  709. every hour most likely, you know. And I'm saying this

  710. because I'm learning as well to be in this place

  711. of being stepped fast in the Lord. And let me

  712. share your story. My sister. I have her older sister,

  713. but I think about two years ago, she had this

  714. a growth in a in a brain, in a pictratary gland.

  715. And that growth, there's only thirty six people in the

  716. entire world has it. It was so rare and no

  717. one has ever had it. I mean no one, not

  718. no one. Thirty six people has had it, and she

  719. was the thirty seventh at a time, and they had

  720. to do a very very complicated surgery to remove that growth,

  721. to snip the growth out of a picgittary gland, and

  722. it caused a lot of you know, side effects on

  723. her body because of the growth and things like that.

  724. She was struggling. She was struggling very bad. And that

  725. time when she was having a surgery, it was I

  726. think it was November. It was in November, end of November, December,

  727. I think it was first December twent three. She was

  728. having a surgery and I was caught to go to

  729. missions to Mukassi on the same day to Indonesia, and

  730. I was wondering and asking God, like should I even go?

  731. I want to be here with my sister. My sister

  732. is a prey believer. Because my family are all prey believers,

  733. they have not yet to accept Christ. So I was thinking,

  734. should I be here with her? At least in a

  735. way I can bring out the comfort the Christ will

  736. bring it. By the time, the Lot was telling me,

  737. you know you have to go. You have to obey

  738. what I've told you to do and not worry about

  739. anything else. I'll be. I'll be with her, I'll be

  740. with them. I said, Oh, at your word, Lord, I

  741. call even on the moment. On the day I was preaching,

  742. like literally, I was preaching in Bakassi. She was having

  743. a surgery. Of course, the surgery went well, and I

  744. was very thankful when I heard it, and I said peace.

  745. But when I come back, I heard this story from

  746. my mom. I'm almost telling me that in the in

  747. the hospital bit the war that she was in, it

  748. was as bit next to her plus and next to

  749. her there was a family there and uh and the

  750. mother of the patient. I think the mother or daughter

  751. of the patient was so uh interested in talking to

  752. my mother and my sister, and they were always she

  753. was always coming in talking and and and once in

  754. their conversation that lady told my mom, oh, can I

  755. pray for her? I am, oh, I'm a Christian, I'm

  756. from from this church. I just felt, I want to

  757. pray for your daughter, for your daughter's comfort and peace.

  758. And she prayed for her, and my mom was so

  759. touched in a way that like, in a way that

  760. why would someone want to do this for for her?

  761. And I remember I was like, wow, See God has

  762. his ways of doing it. Yes, he didn't forsake my

  763. sister at that time, but it's because I choose to.

  764. I wouldn't say it's because I choose to do that,

  765. but in a way, it's because I still steadfastly obeyed

  766. in a way, it was so hard to do so,

  767. but yet God's hand was there. Sometimes you cannot see

  768. that because we cannot see that, we get shaken. But

  769. God works in a way where if we can stay

  770. step fast and He will show and he will prove

  771. then how it works in our life. So you know,

  772. so it's that's that's the power, you know, you know,

  773. so God sees what you're going through. It's not in vain,

  774. but you reward your faithfulness one day. So you might

  775. ask me, chy, how do I then be step fast?

  776. So hard? I just want to give up? Can you

  777. teach the right way to be step fast? Oh? What

  778. does it mean to be stepped fast? I'll show you

  779. a demo. I always have demos and always call one

  780. person for the demos. That guy, come, come, come, come,

  781. are you the chosen one? Okay? Okay, okay, okay, yeah, okay,

  782. so right now, okay, just then normally okay, you stand, okay, standing,

  783. so right now? Yes, he's standing. When I push him,

  784. he's going to move. It's not immovable, it's very movable.

  785. All right, Okay, good idea. But let me tell let

  786. me teach you another way to do it. Try kneeling

  787. down like you know, like kneel down and prayer like

  788. how would you kneel that? Prayer? Like that? Okay, like that?

  789. So imagine if I'm trying to push him now, it's harder, right,

  790. I mean, I gotta even still, the base is stronger.

  791. It's because he's seated. He's seated. Step fast, Thank you,

  792. thank you you know step fast actually means to be seated,

  793. to be seated. And then we are seated in this

  794. position like just now, in that kneeling position, we cannot

  795. be shaken because in that position it does not only

  796. mean seated, but also means surrendered. You're surrendered on your

  797. knees to the Lord to fully and means you know,

  798. you know. There's a word for it in Greek, which

  799. means hand over fully ill fully submit. Come to a

  800. place when you kneel down to the Lord. You come

  801. to a place that saying that Lord, without you, I

  802. am powerless to accomplish anything. Just to be stepfast, right,

  803. it's not to fight on our own, but it is

  804. to be surrendered to the Lord. Church, no surrender. Surrendering

  805. to the Lord is not a sign of defeat. The

  806. world things surrendering is about being defeated, Oh I surrender

  807. a lost ABDN. But for Christ, surrender means coming to

  808. a place of selflessness, completely dependent on God. Where you

  809. are steadfast, you cannot be moved, You're firm, you're unshaken.

  810. There's a lot better that we face. You probably are

  811. fighting daily with this position, right. It's not just what

  812. your physical posture of surrender. But it's also your inner

  813. resolve inside of you saying that my God is in control.

  814. It's saying that Lord, let your will be done, not mine.

  815. Through the pain, we can say just like what Jesus

  816. did you know? In Luke twenty two was forty one

  817. to forty two, it says that Father, if this is,

  818. if it is your will, take this cup away from me. Nevertheless,

  819. not my will, but yours be done. He knelt down

  820. and prayed and he said this. You know, he did

  821. not flee, he did not fight, or it was not faltering,

  822. but he kneeled and surrender because he was steadfast in

  823. his father's will. Church, can we learn to surrender? Can

  824. we learn to come to a place of surrendery And

  825. it's a very hard thing to do, but we should

  826. just try to let go of our pride, a desire

  827. for control over everything, and abandon the belief that surrendering

  828. a sign of defeat or what people think of as matters.

  829. We oftentimes are so afraid to surrender to the Lord

  830. because we are so afraid, what would people think? Would

  831. people think that I am weak if I choose to surrender?

  832. But no, the people might think that you're weak. This

  833. person gave up so fast, but the Lord will not

  834. give up on you. You want to win battles, you

  835. can't win it on your feet, but only on your knees.

  836. I can remember every single challenge that I've gone through

  837. my life. It's all one on my knees. Two tears.

  838. I realize that striving on my own is not going

  839. to get me anywhere. It's just gonna get me more anxious,

  840. more worried, more confused, more troubled. But when I choose

  841. to surrender, peace that surpasses every understanding comes into my mind.

  842. So don't be worried, don't be trouble, don't be distracted,

  843. and don't fight on your own. Also, don't run away.

  844. And also don't be a fixer. I know we all

  845. love to fix things. Don't be a fixer. Don't be

  846. in pride, don't be humble, I mean sorry, be humble,

  847. testing you all, whether you're awake or not. And never

  848. choose the good part to be seated at his feet.

  849. It's a place surrender, and that will not be taken

  850. away from me. And that's what Jesus said to Martha. So, Martha, Martha,

  851. you're so worried. And trouble, but many things, and one

  852. thing is needed and married. I chosen the good part

  853. and it will never be taken away from her. And

  854. she was seated at the feet of Jesus, and that

  855. will never be taken away from you. If you can

  856. learn to surrender, can you hand over your will to him?

  857. Exchange your burden with him? You know, that's when true

  858. repentance starts. You know when true repentance that you know,

  859. really truly you repent when you choose to surrender everything

  860. to the Lord, the deepest parts that you have not

  861. shown to people, the struggles that you have not shown

  862. to people, the battles that you're fighting alone inside of

  863. your heart, all of it. When you choose to surrender

  864. it to God, then you have truly repentant. Then you're

  865. truly free, perfect peace, perfect freedom. There can we all

  866. stand Church. I'm just gonna look to the Lord this time.

  867. Thank you Jesus, Thank you Lord. Truly. I as I

  868. was preparing to come here, I mean, the heart last

  869. whole week and the Lord was just reminding me this

  870. particular worse again and again. I was going to share

  871. something else, but I rarely felt that I needed to

  872. share this because I truly believe that this word is

  873. that I'm about to share is something in the right

  874. season for each and every one of us year, including myself.

  875. But I think we have to come to a place

  876. to acknowledge it. A second chronicle seven was falling into sixteen,

  877. says this, If my people who are called by my

  878. name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face,

  879. and turn from their wicked ways, I will year from heaven,

  880. and I will forgive their sin and heal their land.

  881. Now my eyes will be opened and my years attentive

  882. to prayer made in this place. For now I have

  883. chosen and sanctified this house. Then my name may be

  884. there forever, and my eyes and my heart will be

  885. there perpetually. No. Surrender is not the end, but it

  886. is the beginning where God takes over. If you have

  887. not chosen to surrender yet to the Lord, what you

  888. are going through today, I just want to really put

  889. this out to you. The Word says he. For those

  890. who humble themselves and seek my face, my eyes and

  891. my ears will be so attentive on them, and our

  892. year their prayer, our year, their cry. It's a sign

  893. of surrender. Saying the Lord, I truly want to trust you,

  894. even if I don't know how to. I want to

  895. learn to trust you. The Lord will teach you. So today, Church,

  896. can you come to a place of surrender. Can you

  897. come to a place of humility to say the Lord,

  898. I need you. A place where you know you don't

  899. worry about what people say, You don't worry about what

  900. people think of you. A place where you don't worry

  901. about what the world will think of you, but you

  902. only think about what my Father in Heaven says to

  903. me and what my Father in Heaven wants to do

  904. with me in my life. Learn to surrender Church, That's

  905. the beginning.
