You're listening to a message to go from acts church.
-
We hope this message will light up your day.
-
And we are starting on this this series called the
-
twelve plus one Core Values. Yeah, because we believe that values.
-
Is the way to go right.
-
Sometimes as a church we can focus on a lot
-
of things that could be also important, right, like for example,
-
how the service is run, you know, the lights and
-
and everything else, right, But I think what keeps a
-
generation to go on is the values, right, is the values.
-
And so this this whole series were written by our
-
very own founding senior pastor, Pastor Kenna Chin, right. And
-
so we are going through this series and you know
-
for a couple of weeks just to align because as
-
the church grows bigger, the unity has to be stronger, right.
-
And so that is why we're all given this privilege
-
to actually bring God's word to align the church with
-
the direction that God calls us.
-
Because for us to do great things for the.
-
Lord, we've got to first catch the heart of it
-
to be revived within us, right, leaders in the house, right,
-
you know, we have to first be revived to catch
-
the spirit of God, to catch what is it that
-
God wants to do? In us, then we can bring
-
it out to others as well.
-
Yeah.
-
So I think catching it and aligning is very important.
-
So this handbook will be useful for you, right as
-
you go through the different notes that are there. And again,
-
it's not just a Sunday one off things, right, It's
-
about what you do on your Mondays to Saturdays, the
-
things that you learn, the values and how could you
-
actually apply it in your own lives as well. Right,
-
So join us in this season of just going through
-
these values, and if you have any questions, you'll be
-
even talking about it in our small groups right in
-
our homes as we meet, you know, for cell groups,
-
and we'll be discussing this in more depth as well.
-
So there's the time you can ask questions and explore
-
and see how can this very much be applicable in
-
your own lives. I always believe that the Word of
-
God is practical, right, It's meant to be lived out,
-
you know.
-
It doesn't just look good.
-
It's meant to be lived out, to be felt, to
-
be exercised, you know, and only then we can feel
-
the power of God in us as well.
-
Yeah.
-
So, so take this, take ownership of it. That's what
-
I'm telling church. Yeah, take ownership, it's your faith, it's
-
your journey with the lot, right, take down notes, ask questions,
-
explore because only then you can grow deeper with him
-
a man. Right, And so thank you Richard for helping
-
you with the slides. Yeah, So just to give you
-
a bit of an intro as we go on, and
-
feel free to take down your notes as we move.
-
Yeah. So why values? Right? Why are we going through
-
the values?
-
What's the heart behind the values that we're going through?
-
Well? Vision and mission?
-
Okay, I'm sure you know we've all heard of this
-
vision mission, right, even if you're working in a company,
-
or if you're going into if you're studying antitude, every
-
other place has their own vision and mission, right, But
-
all this actually tells us where we're going and why
-
we're doing something.
-
Right.
-
But values are the fuel in the vehicle. So we
-
can have a great vision written, we can have a
-
great mission. But it's those values that a person carries
-
that keeps us going. Yeah, because you know, we can
-
see each other every other Sunday or in any other
-
events that we have in church. At the end of
-
the day, who is living out those living out our lives?
-
It's you, yourself, me, myself right in our quiet doors,
-
closed doors, in the different challenges and the values that
-
you go through, it is you, and how would you
-
make decisions? You know, who do you turn to? It's
-
the values that you hold on to. Right, So, values
-
are the one that fuels the vehicle. They are what
-
gets us there, especially when we face oppositions, testings and trials. Right,
-
how many of you know that when good times, it's
-
easy to praise the Lot, right, to dance and to sing.
-
But when life hits us, it's not as easy to
-
clap your hands, Right, it's not as easy to smile.
-
Would you still say? Yes, Lord?
-
Nevertheless, I will still praise you, Right, Nevertheless, I still
-
praise you.
-
So it is those values that are within us.
-
It's not just a feel good looking value that just
-
because my past has said I should believe in this,
-
but it should be a value that you hold on
-
to that you believe in.
-
Right.
-
You came to church this Sunday because I hope it
-
was not because someone called you and told you to
-
be here, right, But it was because you have your
-
personal relationship with the Lot. You want to honor him, right,
-
You want to receive something from God to be touched
-
by him. So it's a very personal decision.
-
Right.
-
So values are the one that keeps us going, especially
-
in tough times. Values are also character, right, values are
-
also character. Where we are in the dark, when no
-
one else is watching, what are those decisions that we
-
would actually take. Yeah, that makes a good leader, or
-
not just a leader, but a Christian because when you're
-
out there, you know, people are not going to know
-
Jesus just because you carry a Bible, but people will
-
know Jesus with the way we live, our lives, our conduct.
-
Right.
-
And he just takes one Christian who says I'm a
-
Christian but doesn't leave the life the way God Jesus
-
wants us to leave, then we may not be giving
-
the right message. So we're all walking examples, right. So
-
the character that we that we carry or have is
-
very important.
-
Yeah.
-
So just a bit of a background, Like I mentioned,
-
you know when Past the Cannet started this church in
-
two thousand. The reason how we got the name X
-
is from the Book of X itself, right, so X
-
chapter two. And so we want we believe in being
-
a church like the Church of X as well, right,
-
And so That is why these core values that we're
-
going through, they're not just values that are drawn from experience.
-
You've got to be very careful with that because sometimes
-
values can be because of my experience. Therefore it's a
-
value that hold on too. But these values here are
-
very much scriptural. Okay, it's scriptural. It's all taken from
-
the scriptures, Yeah, especially from X two. So they're not preferences,
-
they're not programs, and they're not negotiable, okay, But they
-
are the rock because the Word of the Lord is
-
the rock.
-
Yeah.
-
They cannot be shaken and we cannot be without it,
-
without the Word of God. Right, So it is the foundation.
-
These core values are built on the foundation.
-
So how can the.
-
Church grow strong in the midst of change and challenges?
-
Like I always tell our church. You know, in Malaysia
-
we count it a blessing and a privilege to have
-
church freely, right, But in different parts of the world
-
it may not be the easiest. Yeah, it may not
-
be the easiest to oftenly worship the lot or police
-
say that you're a Christian. So let us not take
-
this for granted, yeah, because there might become a time
-
when you know, you might need to make a decision.
-
Would you still choose to stand for your faith, right?
-
Would you still choose to say no, I'm I want
-
to believe in Jesus, I'm a believer of the Lord, right,
-
And so we are preparing the church for that, not
-
just you know, to always think that, Okay, things are
-
just going to be fine, right, Yes it is, you know,
-
and we are blessed with that. But when challenges happen,
-
when change takes place, would a church stand strong? How
-
can we stand strong? And so that is why we're
-
going through this series to hold the church together in
-
the Word of God. And this word of God becomes
-
our values, and so that is how we're making the
-
Word of God more applied, more practical for all of
-
us to live it out.
-
Yeah.
-
So values are non compromisable, Okay, it's not something that
-
we should choose and say or try to interpret it ourselves.
-
We've got to be careful with that, right, And there
-
are more and more in the times we are living
-
in with the digital world. You know, people just have
-
a say on what is the Bible like or what
-
is Christianity all about? So if someone is going to
-
come and preach to you, would you know, your word
-
to test and see who's that prophet? Where is he
-
coming from or is he taking it from the word
-
of God or is the word of God being twisted? Yeah,
-
so we need to know the Word of God inside out.
-
You've got to own your Bible, and that's why we
-
encourage our you know, our partners in church to bring
-
your own Bible right. Just don't always be trying to
-
googling your answers in the internet, right, because things can
-
change anytime. But when you have the word of God,
-
and when you know what the word of God is,
-
you know what's the truth, and the Word of God
-
says the truth will set you free.
-
Right, And so.
-
We've got to hold onto the word of God. So
-
it's non compromisable, and we want to succeed and be
-
victorious in this life. You know, we need to set
-
what cannot be compromised. Okay, there are things that we
-
cannot make a compromise. Yeah, And so I think it's
-
also very important, you know, if we want to take
-
this the next level, you know, not to compromise.
-
To hold on to the Word of God. We've got
-
also speak it out right.
-
What are those things that are non negotiable for you
-
as a believer.
-
Right.
-
The word of God says to be unequally, Yo, you
-
know you cannot be unequally yoke, you know, or how
-
should you live your lives?
-
Right?
-
The different ten commandments that are given to us, Honor
-
your parents. You should love the Lord your God with
-
all your heart.
-
Right.
-
So what are those things that If these are your values,
-
it will dictate your decisions, right, It dictates your actions, your.
-
Steps that you take.
-
Yeah, And these things are so important, especially when we're
-
living in the world when there can be opinions that
-
doesn't seem to be wrong, It seems to be all right?
-
Why not right? Why can't I listen to it? Yeah?
-
And you know, I remember when I was teaching back,
-
I mean, not teaching any longer, but when I was
-
when I was teaching before this, you know, when I
-
was in the university. You know, there's just all form
-
of distructions when these students walk in to the campus. Right,
-
And if you're a student here, I'm sure you can
-
you know for yourself. Right, there's just all kinds of opinions.
-
People are dressing up in different manners. Everything seems to
-
be okay, right, So then how do I still stand
-
on my own grounds on my values? And even if
-
I stand firm, what is the foundation that I'm standing
-
firm on? Is it just because it's a principle that
-
I have? Because anyone, even people who do not know Christ,
-
may have their own principles. I have very good friends
-
who who have not known Christ yet, but they are
-
very good people. Right, they do great things, they are
-
very successful, So they're good. But does good also mean
-
it is what the Word of God tells us to
-
do as well?
-
Right?
-
So how do you then draw the line there? So
-
you have to be very clear with what the Word
-
of God tells us. What are the values that it carries?
-
So as we unpack, yeah, just want to encourage you
-
to write those things in your own journals or in
-
your own hearts as well. What are those things that
-
are non negotiable for you?
-
So when we speak.
-
About vision here, you know, vision is the one that
-
builds our character, especially when no one else is watching us.
-
And when we look at the scriptures here, okay, when
-
we look at where these values comes from, or this
-
whole series, where is it derived from? We can look
-
at a scripture here it says in Matthew twenty four
-
versus thirty five. Okay, heaven and earth will pass away,
-
but my words will by no means pass away.
-
Right.
-
And that's the promise that the Word of God has
-
given to us, and that is why we need to
-
hold on to it even more Right, it.
-
Says in Psums.
-
One hundred and thirty eight versus two, for you have
-
magnified your word above all your name man. So the
-
word of God yourself teaches us what it means to
-
hold on.
-
To the Word of God magnified.
-
This is the one and only thing that will never change,
-
will remains the same yesterday, today, and forever. People will come,
-
people will go opinions will change. The world evolves so quickly, right,
-
But what doesn't change is the word of God. Even
-
more so important for us to hold on to the
-
word of God. So a very important question for you
-
and I to reflect on today is how much do
-
I know the Word of God? Because if you know
-
the Word of God, you know your God as well. Right,
-
Because there can be two voices running in our minds,
-
sometimes a voice that tries to condemn tempt or that
-
could be a voice who's trying to encourage us or
-
there's a voice who's trying to convict us. Right, nothing
-
wrong with conviction because it just wants you to turn
-
the right way. But if it's there to tempt and condemn,
-
then you know it's not from the lot. Yeah, so
-
we've got to be discerning.
-
Yeah. One of the things that I.
-
Notice, you know, when journey with different ones in church.
-
I think we've got to catch the heart of discernment
-
as we grow, you know, as you grow as a
-
martued believer. But what if God tells us you can't
-
just rely on a Sunday message, right, you can't just
-
drink milk all the time.
-
You're not going to be filled. You need to have
-
the meat.
-
You need to be filled with something that is more deeper,
-
something that's more stronger, right, and that is through the
-
world of God and with the gift of discerning. Right now,
-
let's just go through the first the first value for today, right,
-
And we're going to start off with the first one, which.
-
Is spirit filled.
-
All right, spirit filled, And let's just open with a
-
couple of scriptures from the Book of X chapter two.
-
Are we doing good church to forget to say your amens? Yeah,
-
you're saying amen. To the Lord. All right, So X
-
chapter two versus two. Here, right, are you all there?
-
Yeah? All right?
-
Says here in verses two A Book of X, chapter two.
-
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of
-
a rushing, mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where.
-
They were sitting. All right.
-
So this is the if you if you've not read
-
the chapter chapter one a Book of X, you'll see
-
that this is when Jesus has sent it. And he
-
says that Hay sent you Hew, which is the Holy Spirit. Right,
-
So this is where the church was experiencing the Holy
-
Spirit for the first time, the coming of the Holy Spirit. Yeah,
-
now let's read on. Okay, let's look at this whole
-
scripture here. Yeah, it says in versus five, and there
-
were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews devote men from every nation
-
under heaven.
-
And when this.
-
Sound occurred, the multitude came together and were confused because
-
everyone heard them speak in his own language. Then they
-
were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, look,
-
are not all these speak Galileans? And how is it
-
that we hear each in our own language in which
-
we were born? Patians and Meddies and Aliphites, and those
-
dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cafe de Care, Pontus and
-
Asia Perugia. These are all the names of the places.
-
I'm not going to try to to you know, say
-
it all right, vers leven. It says Cretans and Arabs,
-
we hear them speaking in our own tongues, the wonderful
-
works of God. So they were all amazed and perplexing
-
to one another. Whatever could this mean? Others mocking say
-
they were full of wine. So there was this whole
-
confusion when the spirit of God came. They're trying to
-
understand what's going on. Now, let's see what Peter tells
-
us here. He tries to get them to understand. Yeah,
-
in Verses fourteen. But Peter, standing up with the eleven,
-
raise his voice and say to them, men of Judea
-
and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known
-
to you. And ht my words, for these are not
-
drunk as you suppose, since it is only the third
-
hour of the day.
-
But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel.
-
And it shall come to pass and the last day,
-
says God, that I will pour up my spirit on
-
all flesh, Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy. Your
-
young men shall see visions, all men shall dream dreams.
-
And on my men servants and on my maid servants,
-
I will pour out my spirit in those days, and
-
they will prophesy. I will show wonders in heaven above,
-
and signs, and the earth beneath blood and fire and
-
vapor of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness
-
and the moon into blood before the coming of the
-
great and awesome Day of the Lord. And it shall
-
come to pass that whoever calls on the name of
-
the Lord shall be saved a man a man.
-
Right.
-
So this is what Paul, I'm sorry, Peter says to
-
the church the people at that time, and there was
-
such a confusion. But this is when the start of
-
the Holy Spirit begin, right, people begin to speak in tongues.
-
And what happened after that, When you read on the
-
chapters to come, you will see how people experience the
-
power of God.
-
The church was just added, right.
-
Disciples were just going on doing what they were commissioned
-
to do. They were just paidful, they were obedient, right.
-
But when the spirit of God moved, the church grew right.
-
The church grew, there was such an hunger and terst
-
for the Lord. They saw miracles. People were healed right,
-
broken hearted, the sick were healed. And that is what
-
the spirit of God does when we actually activated. As
-
he says, the help is always there and the Holy
-
Spirit is there, but it's whether we call upon the
-
Holy Spirit.
-
Yeah.
-
So you know, many churches can be christ scentered. That's
-
very important, christ centered, but when you don't have the
-
Holy Spirit. We will not have the fullness of Christ
-
without the Holy Spirit, right, because His Father's Son and
-
the Holy Spirit. We need the Holy Spirit as well. Yeah,
-
you know, in fact, we could have started the first
-
value in the first teaching of today as Christ sentered,
-
but we started with spirit, feel because that is our
-
ex too started as well. It started with the Holy
-
Spirit verst right, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
-
Yeah.
-
So the Holy Spirit is not something that is optional
-
or something additional, but he is essential.
-
Yeah.
-
As a church sort of X, we believe that Holy
-
Spirit is something we believe in. I know there's sometimes
-
debates among different Christians as well, you know, but praying
-
in tongues and all, but we believe in it, right,
-
Praying in tongues is edifying of our spirit. Yeah, and
-
that is why we got to also be discerning. Right,
-
And so it's not a it's not an option. It
-
is essential. He leads us to Christ. The Holy Spirit
-
leads us to Christ. Yeah, and reminds us of Christ
-
teaching and in fact empowers us to obey what Christ
-
as commanded.
-
Yeah.
-
So when you read the Word of God, if we
-
read the Word of God without the Holy Spirit, we
-
may not even get the understanding. And some of us,
-
if you know, if you're read the same scripture in
-
different seasons of your life, it speaks to you very differently, right,
-
because that's how the Holy Spirit moves, Right. He knows
-
what is it that you need in that season of
-
your life, and then he ministers to you. Yeah, or
-
he prompts you know, you just tell it reminds you, Okay,
-
this is what you need to pray for. This is
-
the word that I have for you.
-
Right.
-
And the more you sit in the presence of the Lord,
-
these are the things that are sharpen as you go.
-
Right.
-
We all have these gift things. You all have the
-
gift of the Holy Spirit. But the thing is that
-
if we don't activate it, or we don't call upon
-
the Holy Spirit, then you're not going to feel it, right.
-
But when the more we do it, when we praying things,
-
when we pray in the spirit, that is when you're
-
going to catch it. Yeah, if you're new in the faith,
-
then this can be something very new to you as well. Yeah, understandable,
-
and that is why we want to bring our chirch
-
through this series to help you understand what is the
-
role of the spirit in our faith? Yeah, and why
-
is it so important? So there can be many Christians
-
who can be walking in and out living our lives
-
but not living a spirit filled life.
-
There's a big difference. Yeah, there's a big difference.
-
You see two believers, someone who is just you know, knowing, Yes,
-
God is good, I'm going to live for the Lord,
-
and then there's another person who's living and their spirit feeled,
-
they're activated. There's a big difference because the way they
-
look at their surrounding is through the lens of God,
-
not just through your lens. There's a big difference there. Yeah,
-
when you look at someone, you don't just see them
-
as just another person, but you're seeing them as a
-
child of God and in fact, something God in part,
-
certain words in you to speak it out to prophesy,
-
and that's how you prophesy, right, that's how you give
-
a prophetic word to give.
-
It's because the Spirit of God moves in you. Yeah.
-
So it's not the matter of how long you've been
-
a believer, but how young you are, right, or how
-
old you are, But it's about how close you are
-
with God and how much you know the Spirit of God.
-
And the more you sit in His presence is when
-
you feel him.
-
Yeah.
-
And I can testify in all my life the one
-
thing that keeps me doing church and serving Him is
-
the Spirit of God living. So sometimes you're physically you
-
can do it, you know, or you go through different struggles,
-
but when the Spirit of God is seeing you, when
-
your spirit fills, when your soul is in the right place,
-
then you just do it. Nevertheless, Yeah, you still choose
-
to praise God, and then He gives you the strength
-
to do.
-
It as well.
-
Yeah.
-
So the spirit of God.
-
And you know, when I think about the times when
-
I've encountered God, it's not just in you know, in
-
big congregations or in conferences or in church alone, but
-
it's most of the time in my room all by
-
myself with the Lord. When you spray in tongues, when
-
you pray in spirit, God speaks to you. Right, and
-
even more so, like the Word of God, says he,
-
he edifies. He feels you afresh, so that you can
-
do what you can't do, but only true the Lord.
-
Amen. Yeah.
-
So that is the power of the Holy Spirit. It's
-
not additional, is essential. Yeah. So X Church is a
-
spirit filled church, okay, and we want each one to
-
be empowered with the gifting of the Holy Spirit as well.
-
So let's go through a couple of pointers here. First,
-
the Holy Spirit is the promise of God. Okay, everyone
-
say the promise of God. Yeah, the Holy Spirit is
-
the promise of God, you know, it says in Ects
-
One fourteen. And being assembled together with them, he commanded
-
them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for
-
the promise of the Father. Now this work, Jesus tells
-
the disciples. You know, though they have been walking and
-
they know the Lord, you know, for you know, for
-
a couple of years.
-
But yeah, Jesus was telling them to tarry and wait.
-
For the Spirit. Jesus himself knew the importance of doing that.
-
To wait on the Lord, to tarry, to wait. What
-
is it that God wants us to do? Not just
-
to rush and do the ministry right? Rush and open
-
and and and and you know, answer a door that's
-
opened for you. Or how should I approach a certain situation?
-
You know, there's a big difference, you know, when we
-
just do it our way compared to sitting and just saying, God,
-
I'm waiting on you.
-
Could you give me the right.
-
Words to speak if I'm needing to speak to someone
-
right or dealing with a certain situation. You'll be surprised
-
the kind of words that God gives you to approach
-
that particular situation. Yeah, even in ministry, Uh, there are
-
times sometimes, you know, when I've got to deal with
-
different people right, people that people we love at the
-
same time, people that we need to love more. Okay,
-
it's not that's not the easiest to to to.
-
You know, care and and take care of different ones.
-
And you know what I mean. I started ministry at
-
a very young age. Okay, most of you would know
-
this story. And in fact, we just went celebrated our
-
birthday and we talked about, you know, how this church started.
-
And I remember starting off as a fresh graduate right
-
and very young in ministry. And you know what that
-
kept me going was the Holy Spirit. And and of
-
course I'm blessed to be in a family who has
-
been in ministry.
-
Mom and Dad.
-
I've been seeing them doing the word of work of God.
-
But then again, I had to encounter the Lord myself,
-
not just because I grew in a family of you know,
-
pastors and missionaries. I had to first know God for myself.
-
I had to be first filled with the Holy Spirit. Right,
-
and doing church no longer becomes just because I know
-
what I need to do. But you rely on what
-
God tells you to do. Who do you how do
-
you speak to this person?
-
Right? How do you start off this initiative? You know?
-
How do you pray for people? How do you bring
-
the Word of God? How do you prophesy all? That
-
is just through the spirit of God that is in you. Yeah,
-
he enables you a man, He enables, So terry wait
-
on the spirit. M It says in John sixteen seven. Nevertheless,
-
I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage
-
that I go away, For if I do not go away,
-
the helper will not come to you. But if I
-
depart I will send him to you. So Jesus says
-
that it is to our advantage that he go so
-
that the helper will come. So meaning it's been the
-
plan of the Lord. In fact, it's the promise of
-
God that Jesus was there to be to minister, to
-
do what he was called to do, and then there
-
was a time that he had to as send and
-
therefore the.
-
Holy Spirit is given to us.
-
So meaning church, it is not just okay, you can
-
choose it if you want to, but it was given
-
to us, right. It is something that we just need
-
to call upon to embrace, to leave it to be
-
filled with the Holy Spirit. Yeah, it's always been the
-
plan of the lot Holy Spirit.
-
Amen.
-
Yeah, So Holy Spirit is our priority and we've got
-
to be filled by him.
-
Amen. Now.
-
The second thing is that the Holy Spirit is the
-
power of God. Right, The Holy Spirit is the power
-
of God. In fact, we cannot do God's work in
-
human strength. In in fact, we've got to be very
-
careful if we're doing it by human strength. Right, And
-
that is why we always encourage our leaders here there
-
as you serve, as you lead others, your cup has
-
to be filled us, right, If not, we can be
-
so caught up knowing what to do after some time, right,
-
how church runs how to speak, But are we moving
-
in the spirit? And that is why sometimes things can
-
just go very you know, we're just managing, right, but
-
we're not growing deeper, we're not going higher. Because if
-
the Spirit of God is there in our lives, then
-
we'll expect.
-
More, right, desire more. We can do great things for God.
-
We can pray, we'll have faith to pray for someone
-
because we know that it's not just me praying, but
-
because the Spirit of God is in me and he
-
gives me that power to pray for someone, So we'll
-
not hesitate. Yeah, and so when we have the Holy Spirit,
-
we have the power of God moving as well.
-
Yeah, it says in Zachariah for.
-
Six, not by might, not by power, but by my spirit,
-
says the Lord of course. Right, So not mine, not power,
-
but by my spirit. So we've got to catch this
-
truth as believers of Christ. Yeah, the power of the
-
Spirit of God is powerful. Now, we cannot obey Christ's
-
commands walking in His will and word if we don't
-
have the Holy Spirit.
-
Yeah.
-
In fact, the Holy Spirit is the one reminds us
-
of his teachings. Right, the Holy Spirit reminds us of
-
his word, it says in John fourteen twenty six. But
-
the helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send
-
in my name, he will teach you all things and
-
bring to your remembrance all things that I say to you. Right, So,
-
if you just unpack the scripture itself, he says, he
-
will teach you. He will bring remembrance. Okay, things that
-
you may have forgotten. But that is what the Holy
-
Spirit will actually do for us.
-
Yeah.
-
So if you're seated here thinking, okay, I still don't
-
quite understand the Bible, trying to read it, and I'm
-
trying to encover it, well, you need the Holy Spirit
-
then to help you to understand even deeper. Yeah, you know,
-
and sometimes, you know, the Holy Spirit even reminds us
-
of things that we may have forgotten, the encounters that
-
we have experienced.
-
You know.
-
You know, when you look at a person, sometimes there
-
can be different seasons of them being revived. Okay, maybe
-
you'll be Yeah, when you younger, in your campus days,
-
you're more revived. And then as life hits you different
-
priorities and all this, then the fire goes down. But
-
we need the Holy Spirit to revive that fire once
-
again to remind you, Hey, you know what you did
-
when in your younger days. Don't miss out that calling him.
-
And so we need the Holy Spirit to keep reminding
-
us of our calling and what He can actually do
-
through us as well.
-
Amen.
-
Right now, the next thing is that the Holy Spirit is.
-
It's so important, it's so powerful. Where it actually tells
-
us in Matthew twelve that you one that blessoming the
-
son of Men can be forgiven, but not blessing the
-
Holy Spirit. That is how precious and important the Holy
-
Spirit is. Yeah, it says in Matthew twelve that you won. Therefore,
-
I say to you every sin and bleshem me will
-
be forgiven men, but the blessed me against the Spirit
-
will not be forgiven. Yeah. So this itself tells us
-
the importance of the Holy Spirit and how much reverence
-
we got to give it, how much of the fear
-
of God we need to have, you know, And we're
-
seeking the gifting of the Holy Spirit. So the encouragement
-
for all of us as a church, you know, as
-
we even leave these values out together, right, is to
-
actually prioritize the Spirit of God because where the spirit
-
of God is, that is where Christ is exalted and
-
we are free. Yeah, and we are free. So Church,
-
it's time for us to come back again. Only you
-
know yours journey with the lot and where you're at
-
in this point of your lives. Right, So how much
-
of the spirit is living in you? How much of
-
the spirit of God is living in you? Because if
-
you're not careful, there can be other spirits that may
-
come and come in us.
-
Do you know that right?
-
Because we are we are living in a fallen world.
-
And it's either we are filled with the spirit of
-
God or we are filled with the spirit of the world.
-
You can't put your legs on both sides, that's the truth. Yeah,
-
it's either you believe in the truth fully one hundred
-
percent or you're not. You can't just say that I'm
-
a lukewarm That's what the scripture tells us about not
-
being a lukewarm Christian. And I pray that all of
-
us here will be on fire for the Lord until
-
it takes us home. Yeah, no compromise on that, you know.
-
And to be fully in the spirit of God.
-
Amen.
-
So just have a heart check for ourselves, you know,
-
in the seasons of your life. Wherever you are, you
-
know how much of the Holy Spirit lives in you?
-
Are you filled with the spirit of God?
-
Right?
-
And how can you even know? This is the way
-
you see the Lord?
-
Right? Are you walking in faith? Are you moving by
-
the spirit?
-
Because not all things can be Let me wait first,
-
let me test first. If Peter was just testing, you
-
wouldn't have walked on water. But the moment is his
-
naked eyes opened, then he started drowning, right, So it
-
takes faith. It takes the Spirit of God to enable
-
us to move forward. Yeah, So how much of the
-
Spirit of God is living in you?
-
Right?
-
And the thing about the Spirit of God is, you
-
know you shouldn't just put it in a box and
-
think that, Okay, I'm going to only visit this spirit
-
when I need. But the Spirit of God is supposed
-
to be living with us, walking with us, journeying with us.
-
So wherever you are, you could be in your office,
-
you could be teaching your class, right, and suddenly the
-
Holy Spirit comes and you know, you know, talk to
-
this one student. You never know what that child is
-
going through, right, And you pray for them, and then
-
you realize this person has been going through a tough time.
-
Yeah. So you the thing about the spirit of God I've.
-
Learned is that you the moment you miss, you may
-
miss the opportunity to actually reach out to that particular person,
-
right if you're not sensitive enough at that point of time, Right,
-
because you're just caught up with different kind of spirit
-
or different kind of distraction.
-
Yeah.
-
So, as a church, just want to encourage all of
-
us to not miss the moment, right, because that moment
-
could be a time when that person just needed an encouragement, right,
-
that person needed a prayer, or that person needed was
-
almost giving up, but because the spirit leaves in you,
-
you were just sensitive enough to say, hey brother, can
-
I pray for you?
-
Right?
-
Or hey brother, Jesus loves you. Do not give up? Yeah,
-
God loves you. And maybe that was just a turning
-
point for that person.
-
Right.
-
So can you imagine how God can use you if
-
you're filled to the spirit of God.
-
Right.
-
The way is God can work the spirit, the Bible say,
-
is beyond what we can.
-
Imagine or expect.
-
Right, if only you allow the God allow God to
-
use you. Yeah. So can we prioritize spirit, Yeah, can
-
be activate it? Can we live our lives, you know,
-
and when you wake up in the morning, when you
-
do your devotion, I think it's time for us. I mean,
-
I'm looking at the faces that I know here journing
-
together for a while. Now, I think enough, it's enough
-
just turning to a devotion app right, I think there's a.
-
Time for that when you're new in a faith.
-
But I think it's time to sit in the presence
-
of the Lord, to turn the Bible, to spray in tongues.
-
If you've not gotten the gift, pray for it. Yeah,
-
and just wait, don't rush your prayers and say, God,
-
what is it that you're speaking to me today?
-
Time to go deep? Purchase right, time to go deeper.
-
Don't wait.
-
Life will always hit us in different ways. There's going
-
to be always things that seems to be it's more important.
-
But at the end of the day, but what's most important,
-
right is you and I answering the Lord and what
-
is it that God is going to tell us? Good
-
and faithful servant? Right, So focus on what's important. Prioritize
-
and you're never too young to think about I have
-
a long way to go. Yeah, start today because today
-
will never come back. Right, Sit in the presence of
-
the Lord and allow him to fill you so that
-
you can know Him more and be used by him
-
as well.
-
Amen.
-
All right, So the power of God is through the
-
Holy Spirit. Now, the next thing, for the last point
-
that we're going to look into is walking in the spirit. Right,
-
How do we walk in the spirit? So when we
-
receive the Holy Spirit, God wants us to have a
-
relationship with him and to make him our best friend. Right,
-
And he says in Galicians five sixteen to seventeen, I say,
-
then walk in the spirit, and you shall not fulfill
-
the last of the flesh. For the flesh lasts against
-
the spirit, and the spirit against the flesh. And this
-
are contrary to one another, so that you do not
-
do the things that you wish. So if you're ever wondering,
-
you know, why is it so hard sometimes, you know,
-
to to just make myself wake up and come to church,
-
or to make myself to worship the law, or to
-
prioritize the things of God. Well, then you're sometimes battling
-
with your flesh. Yeah, But when the Spirit of God
-
is in you, it actually fulfills what needs to be fulfilled,
-
and he enables you to do that, right, because it
-
says your engalitions that this are contrary to one another.
-
Yeah, and the enemy is always going.
-
To try to use our flesh, you know, to tempt us,
-
to pull us away from his work, his things, right,
-
and that is why we've got to keep filling ourselves
-
to the spirit of God. Yeah, keep feeling, keep reminding
-
us that I'm a child of God and I'm not
-
going to make room for temptations like this.
-
Yeah. So it's walking in the spirit. Yeah.
-
We must receive the Holy Spirit and make him our
-
best friend. And that is when he leads us, right,
-
that is when he guides us. And in fact, you know,
-
when we are constantly filled with the Holy Spirit, will
-
be filled. If you're not fulfilled constantly with the Holy Spirit,
-
will be filled with other things. Right, So we've got
-
to be very watchful. So waiting upon the Lord is
-
also part of walking with the Holy Spirit.
-
Yeah. When we wait on.
-
The Holy Spirit, we acknowledge that he is with us
-
and that he is greater than the challenges that we
-
are facing. Now, the thing about waiting is the toughest
-
for us, Right. We sometimes want to go from one
-
thing to the next. In fact, sometimes the way we
-
say our prayer can be so rushed. Right, we have
-
a to do list to check out. You know, God,
-
I need you to do this, this, this, or these
-
are things that need to be done. Well, good, bring
-
your petitions to the lot. But at the same time,
-
I'll be making time to wait in his presence because
-
that is walking with a spirit as well. Because when
-
you wait, God speaks to you.
-
Right.
-
It's no longer just my words that I want to utter,
-
or my knowledge or my understanding, but it is what
-
He wants me to know at this point of my life. Right,
-
So don't feel awkward with the pauses that you can
-
have in your prayers or the quietness, because that is
-
why the Word of God says, be still and to
-
know that I am God. See, if you want to
-
know God, you've got to be still in his presence. Yeah,
-
you've got to be still. You know, when we read
-
the Book of Sums, you'll see the word Sella coming
-
in between the scriptures and there's a pause. Right, there's
-
a pause there reminding us there's a time to wait.
-
There's a time to be silent. Yeah, there's a time
-
to give reverence and just sit and say God, what
-
is it that you're speaking to him in any kind
-
of conversation, a two way conversation. If you're not a
-
good listener, no one wants to talk to you. Right,
-
Imagine you're the only ones chatting and chatting all the way.
-
And the same thing is with the Lord as well. Right,
-
you can go on talking and talking. He listens. Definitely,
-
God is a good listener. The thing is, are we
-
a good listener?
-
Right?
-
Are we making time to take a step back and say, God,
-
it's not what I know or what I want, but Lord,
-
I want you to tell me what is it that
-
you're teaching me in this season all my life? Yeah,
-
because that puts us in a poisture of receiving. It's
-
not about who what I want, not wrestling any longer,
-
but I'm positioning myself in a place where I can
-
just receive from the Lord.
-
Yeah.
-
So walking in the spirit is also part of, you know,
-
being able to wait in his presence. Yeah, you know,
-
just to share a testimony, you know most of you
-
would know. We we did flying last Monday for our students, right,
-
So a couple of us actually went around the campus
-
and we were giving out flyers to invite new students,
-
you know, to a welcome dinner that we're having this week,
-
and of course to the heart of being able to
-
reach out to this you know. And mostly new students
-
when they come to campus, everything is new, you know.
-
Sometimes they can either go with the right friends, you know,
-
so all those kinds of distractions. So we want to
-
be a community where we can be a blessing to them.
-
So you're doing that. And so what we did, of
-
course before the flying we prayed together, right, we prayed
-
and and so I was just walking with another student
-
and I saw this girl seated on the stairs towards
-
the classroom, you know. So she was just sitting there
-
by herself, and she didn't look like she wanted anyone
-
to speak to her, right, like, I'm in my own world,
-
don't disturb me. But I felt a very strong prompting
-
in my heart. No, you should go to her right,
-
you know, because this girl needs the lot. Yeah, So
-
so I went to her right and I just asked,
-
you know, are you in news tod And she said, yeah,
-
I'm yes, here for a three weeks. So she didn't
-
look like a new student, right, so I asked her,
-
you know, what are you studying. I was having a
-
conversation with her and I said, hey, you know, we
-
like to welcome you for a welcome dinner. Why don't
-
you join us and you can make friends and you know,
-
just have fun.
-
And then she said, oh, I, you are from a church.
-
I said, yes, we are from a church, you know,
-
and if you're looking for a church to belong, we
-
do have as well. And then she opened up and
-
she said, I haven't shared this with the team, you know.
-
But she opened up and she said, you know what,
-
I've been away from the lot for many years now.
-
I'm a Christian, but I've been away because I just felt,
-
you know, what's the point. God has not been speaking
-
to me. I don't find my faith relevant, you know.
-
She went on and on. Then she said, but you
-
know what, I'm back to campus. I think it's time
-
for me to discover my faith. And you know what,
-
you came to You came to me at the right
-
time because I was having those questions in my mind,
-
thinking about God, are you there?
-
Are you real? Right?
-
And so when we came to her and we had
-
a little bit of gift to give her, and I
-
told her, you know, it's not a coincidence that I
-
came to you. It's not just because you sat there.
-
But Jesus loves you, and he's not done with you yet.
-
He has a beautiful plan. You're just starting off as
-
a young student here and you have greater days.
-
I hit you, know, and feel free to join us.
-
But more than that, I just wanted to know that
-
God loves you and he has a wonderful plan for you.
-
Yeah. And she just smiled. Yeah, she just smiled. And
-
that is the.
-
Work of the Holy Spirit. Yeah, the work of the
-
Holy Spirit. At that moment, I could have just looked
-
at her. I mean, she she didn't seem like I said.
-
The way she was seated is like I don't want
-
to talk to anyone. In fact, when we reached out
-
to her, she seemed like, Okay, who are you?
-
Stay away? You know, they're kind of a not very
-
welcoming right.
-
But I just went on anyway because I just sensed
-
that this girl needed a reminder of who she is
-
as a daughter of Christ, right, that Jesus loves her.
-
And I just hope that that few words should have
-
reminded her of who God is.
-
I'm not going to give up. Yeah, And so the
-
same thing is like that.
-
In every you know, every day, right, we can walk
-
in and out to our campuses, to our workplaces, or
-
even within our families, and if you're not sensitive enough,
-
we may miss that moment to actually say something to
-
that person, right, to pray for them, or to remind Yeah,
-
and that is what it means by walking in the spirit.
-
You don't have a on and off button. It's on
-
all the time. The moment you wake up, right, you
-
say good morning, Holy Spirit, I'm just ready to face
-
the day, right, and use me, just use me as
-
your vessel. And that's just powerful. You see how God
-
opens doors for you. Yeah, and you it's no longer
-
by what I can do by my own strength, but
-
it's what God enables you to do.
-
Yeah.
-
So just thank God for that that student, and we
-
just pray and hope that there'll be many more students
-
will walking through our doors, you know, wanting to experience
-
the Lord.
-
Amen.
-
Yeah, So I hope that you can have your own
-
stories as well. Right as we go through this series
-
about you know the values, right, this value spirit fields
-
is the number one value that we've got to hold
-
on to.
-
So wherever life takes you, you.
-
Know, you could be a young person seated year and
-
one day when you graduate and when you go on,
-
or you could be a parent. You know, you could
-
be from different parts of the world forever life takes you.
-
If this value is just part it's within you, then
-
no matter what hits you, you know what I need
-
to fall back to. It's not about just being under
-
this covering of a church. Therefore, this is what I
-
got to do. But it's just you as a believer. Yeah,
-
and that is what we are so big in to
-
build a generation that knows their values that no matter
-
how fast the world changes, no matter how you go
-
through different stages of life, from a young person to
-
a parent or a grandfather later on, yet I know
-
what are my values as a person. The roles in
-
your life can change, but your number one role first
-
comes as a child of God, as a son of God,
-
as a daughter of God. And to do that is
-
first to carry those values within you. Yeah, these twelve values.
-
And so we pray that this point that you've learned right,
-
the first value would be something that you can cultivate
-
throughout the week. Like I mentioned, these are teachings that
-
are supposed to be practical. Right, it's supposed to be
-
something that I can ask myself and say, am I
-
spirit filled?
-
Am I living my life.
-
In a way where I'm allowing the Holy Spirit to
-
move in me?
-
Right? Am I speaking to God?
-
Am I walking with him by giving space for him
-
to actually speak to me rather than me just saying everything.
-
Ask those questions, because only then you take ownership of
-
your own faith.
-
We hope you've been blessed by this message. For more
-
information on our church, please visit as church org. We
-
are also active on Facebook and Instagram. We're believing that
-
this week is going to be a good week. I
-
hit for you. God bless
