Acts 2 (Part 2) - The First Evangelical Message | Pr Alvin Keng

coming here. I'm going on a three part series which now is kind of

explaining to more part city. But we'll do three first, and today we're

going to talk about part two because part one I shared about the Holy Spirit.

You remember, just a recap, Okay, I'm going through X chapter

two and part one. We talked about the Holy Spirit and it's from X

chapter two, verse one to thirteen, okay. And we talked about what

is the good news? A lot of us here, I believe us,

right, do you even know what is the good news? We say?

Oh, good news? Good news? What is the good news? The

good news is the forg us worlds Matthil Monk Lou and John eyewitness accounts on

this guy called Jesus who came and changed the world's. That's the good news,

you know. And what is it? It is the story of redemption

from sin and from evil. Okay, basically Jesus, right, what's proving

to this? Hypersaid? He rose from the day forty days you know,

before he went to heaven. So three days after he was crucified, long

enough to confirm that he died, he came, he rose from the dead,

and then he hang around for another forty days just to prove to the

people around him irrefutable proof. That's what the Bible says, irrefutable proof that

he's alive. So you shouldn't be confused nor friends, and you shouldn't be

unsure as a believer. If you believe that you believe in Jesus, you

got to believe that he rose from the dead. And if you are not

sure about that, you better check your heart. Because I also realized that

if we are not clear on our foundations, no wonder, we are easily

shaken, lefe and right, no wonder. When someone offends you in church,

you will leave church very quiet, very quiet, very quiet. Why

are because your foundation is not strong? And do you know that out there

the devil will constantly challenge your foundation and your belief constantly. Now even more

so now it's so hard to be Christian. No, all you need to

do is bring up identity any or gender gode you'll be destroyed online. Right,

So please don't be received, Okay, please get your foundations right.

Please know what is the forg gospels. Know who Jesus is right. Know

that first, then you will not be shaken, you know, because once

you are ruthored in the word ruthor in God, ruthor in what you know

is right, then you got to speak up when it's wrong. A lot

of people have been silent, a lot of people are have been quiet just

accepting things right. But we've got to speak up, imn. After that,

the disciples settled their affairs. What do you mean by that? Judas

was not around ready right he you know, he was killed. He felt

bad, and then after that he decided to take his own life, you

know, and the disciples for feelings safe just says, hey, one has

to take over, and Matthias was chosen right. And then they prayed in

the upper room and they were united one accurt. Are we united here?

Friends? We want to see God move phinisies. We got to be united.

Do you know how serious God takes unity? In the Bible, in

the Old Testament, it talks about how they couldn't win the enemy, and

then they found there was sin in the camp because they said, do not

take any of the spoils, do not do any of these kill everyone.

Okay, that's what the old testimon. I'm not asking us to kill anybody.

Yeah, please, huh, okay, go ahead and read the scripture

yourself. And then they found why are we losing the end to the enemy.

Then they found this one person who decided to be selfish and kept everything

to themselves. And then they found sin in the camp. And then once

they settled that, Okay, I don't know how this, you can go

read how they settle that. Then on need they started winning. Wow,

guys, when we are united, we can do anything. Are we united

as a church? That's my encouragement, right, are we united as a

church. And then they prayed in the upper room waiting for the Holy Spirit,

which was Jesus promise, and we have the Holy Spirit here today.

Then I realized that it was a key Jewish celebration. That means that

everybody, but like Kampong to Juusalem, everybody was there. That's why you

had people from different parts of the area so far until they have different languages,

different dialects, come together and say who is these guys? When the

Holy Spirit came down and they were speaking in tongues. Who are they?

They are speaking the wondrous works of God in our language. It is not

coincidence that God comes at the right time. Why they God chose Pentecos.

It was a key celebration. A lot of people that that's why the Holy

sp remove. When the Holy removes, right, he won't just more.

You know, we have him so that we can be witnesses. So there's

always a reason why I want. God always gives us a clear reason why

he does certain things in our lives. God gives us a clear reason why

He blesses you. It is never just for like that. But we've come

to believe that it's just like that. We've come to believe that yeah because

just yeah, yeah, yeah, God, it's good. But there's a

reason. Amen. And then of course many came and marveled, right,

they marveled at them. Some thought they were drunk. And then Peter preached

the first evangelistic message. Okay, why am I trying to bring us through

here X chapter to our church is called ex church because we want to go

back to where the where the Holy Spirit started the church. That's where we

want to go that's the heart, that's the core of what we do right.

And the Lord has led us twenty four years ready. Let us through

tough times, let us through growing pains, let us through different things,

even recently. For what so that we can build, No, so that

we can obey the Lord, so that we can make disciples, so that

we can follow the Word to what He's called us to do. No other

reason. So if you've hurt, any other reason, can I can?

I tell you the truth? Are not so free, We're not so free.

The leadership is not so free to create our own king. We only

want to build God's kingdom. Not so free hat to be bar free and

not free. I just want to follow what Jesus want me to do.

I just want to follow what the Holy Spirit want me to do. So

you heard any other thing, guys, let me tell you the truth here.

I mean, it's just or twenty four years ready, no other reason

by following Christ, and all of us here one to follow Christs. Amen.

All of us here want to know what God has in store for us.

So we gotta dig deep, amen, and I will start my message.

Let's turn to X chapter two, verse fourteen to thirty nine. Give

you a recap radio about power. You want to hear more, you can

go ahead listen to it. Amen. So let's read x chapter two.

But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to

them, men of today and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be

known to you and heed my words. For this are not drunk, as

you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day. But

this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel, and it came. It

shall come to pass in the last day, says God, that I will

pour out my spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy

that's happening to their guys. Your young men shall see visions that's happening to

their guys. Your old men shall dream dreams that's happening today. And on

my men servants and on my maid servants. I will pour out my spirit

in those days that is happening today. God has pour out his spirit on

us. Amen, And they shall prophesy. And I will show wonders in

heaven above and science in the earth. Beneath blood and fire and vapor smoke.

The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood before

the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord. And he shall

come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Do you call on the name of the Lord today. If you do,

you shall be saved. If your friends do, they shall be safe.

If your parents do, they shall be safe. All you need to

do is call upon the name of the Lord. Lord here, I here,

I am, here, I am save me. And he will in

all and any of your situation. That is my conviction, that is my

belief that he will Going through a heart break, he will save you.

Going through financial difficulty, he will save you. Going through a family challenge,

He will save you. Going through difficult time. He will save you.

I stand here as a testament to you that God has saved me many

times, even recently. The things that I go through I went through with

my mom overseas. If I plai recap overseas, sick in the hospital,

wrecking up bills every day two point five thousand Aussie dollars, not us,

Oh my goodness, if us I had a heart attack Aussie dollars the bill

went up. Do you know how much or not? Four hundred and fifty

thousand. Yey, guys, pasel you know money Anna, but go go

Mania. The deb was paid. I don't owe the hospital anything. We

settled the amount for ten percent of the original friends. Don't you think that

is God? God can say? God can say do you believe? Do

you believe? I serve a God that is almighty? I serve a God

that can do anything, which God yourself, I think we serve the same

God. Amen, Men of Israel, hear these words Jesus of Nazareth,

a man attested by God to you by miracles, who wonders and scigns which

you which God did true him in your midst, as you yourselves also know.

See Peter was not talking to strangers were Peter was talking to people who

have seen Jesus, who were the ones that crucify him. He was talking

to people who saw the miracles. They were not unsure what he was talking

about. They saw him being delivered by the determined purpose and for knowledge of

God. You have taken by Lawla's hands have crucified and put to death whom

God raised up having losed the pains of death, because it was not possible

that he should be held by day, for David says concerning him, I

foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is my right hand,

and I may not be shaken. Therefore my heart rejoice, and my tongue

was glad. Moreover, my flesh whill also rest in hope, for you

will not leave my soul in hades, nor will you allow your Holy One

to see corruption. You are made known to me the ways of life.

You have made me full of joy in your presence. Men and brethren,

my brothers and sisters, here let me speak freely to you of the patriarch

David, King David, that he's both dead and buried, and his tomb

is with us this day. Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that

God has sworn with an oath to him that the fruit of his body according

to the flesh, he would raise up the Christ to sit on the throne.

He for seeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of Christ, that his

soul was not left in Haides, Not did is flesh corruption. This Jesus,

God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses. Therefore being

exalted to the right hand of God, and have beg received from the Father

the promise of the Holy Spirit. He poured out this which you now see

and hear. For David did not ascend into the heavens. But he says

to himself the Lord, say to my Lord, sit in my right hand

till I make your enemies your foot. So therefore, let all the house

of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you have crucified,

both Lord and Christ. Now then they heard this, they will cut

to the heart and say to Peter and the rest of the apostles, men

and brethren, what shall we do. Then, Peter say to them,

repent, and let everyone of human baptize in the name of Jesus Christ for

the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all

who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call God

bless the reading of the scripture. As I study Peter's he's he is a

guy that is not eloquent. He's a fisherman, he's a gangster. Actually,

why do I say that he does all the You know, before before

the Holy Spirit came, he did a lot of stuff that's like questionable.

No. Right, he cut off the slaves. Ear. He tried to

tell you, Jesus, I'm not going to he even now got rebuilt by

Jesus. Get deep behind me, Satan. This guy right, he did

not Jesus three times. I think if I did it, I'd be like,

oh my goodness, can I show my face? Right? But this

message I preached was solid. Man was solid. He got reference points from

the past. He quote the Scripture two times. Joel and David. He

gave relevance because the people knew who King David was. They revered him.

But he was saying, even King David died and he's too me, it's

here, but Jesus is alive, Praise God. Let's just do be of

reflection. Okay. I hope you will catch something. If not, we'll

just go through it. Okay. So Peter stood up and addressed the crowd

who thought you were drunk. You know, friends, as believers in today's

day and age, my encouragement to you is speak up, speak up,

don't be quiet anymore. And when I say speak up, I'm not saying

you must fight people. Please don't fight people, but just speak up for

truth. Amen. If it's wrong, say it's wrong. He's right,

say it's right. If people are go sa being says stop it. If

people are saying bad things about brother, say stop it. Whe does she

talks to the brother, whether she talked to the sister, speak up?

Speak life? Are you speaking life in the situation? Are you adding more

trouble? As believers? When to speak up, especially in people you don't

think that is something not right or they were drunk. They were not drunk.

They will fill the Holy spirit right. He didn't just continue being in

the presence of God and didn't care about who was looking. You know.

Sometimes no, I wrote that, I'm like, he addressed the crowd.

No, they could easily just you know, and sometimes I don't matter your

therasa design, but if you do, I'm sorry, Okay, sorry,

not sorry. We are so preoccupied with being in the presence of God that

we forget people out of there. Peter didn't do that. No, he

addressed the crowd. He's like, yeah, we had an awesome holy spirit,

supernatural time here, and then people saying you're drunk, and then he's

like, no, guys, let me tell you the truth and what happened.

He spoke the first message. He addressed what happened. He brought clarity

to the situation. He didn't just do Christianese things and oh no, no,

no, no, we just you know, stay here in our little

hudder. And I said, no, no, no. He engaged the

people out there who didn't understand. That's what Peter did. And it was

nine am when it happened. The third day. It was nine am.

It was the third out of the day. Say none of us are drunk,

it's too early. Quite funny the way he said it, right.

He quote the scripture. He testified about Jesus life, death, and resurrection.

It wasn't just about Jesus being a good guy, or that Jesus was

a good teacher. This another thing we need to learn as Christians. We

need to testify the good news, not just good teaching. A lot of

people those days think of Jesus as a good teacher only, or the teachings

of Jesus. No, no, no, no, We've got to learn

to testify that he died for your sins. It's different kind of message.

Or guys. No, no, let's play safe for salving. Let's not

rock the boat. Let's just chill. Guys, Jesus never come to this

earth to chill. He came to push the word. He came to show

us away. And man, how you receive this? I hope we receive

it. Well. Again, I'm not encouraging you to go out there and

start, you know, flaming people on Facebook. Please don't do that.

Please don't do that. Do you know that? Can I say something?

Things that argued Onliner is worthless on so I never partend that. I'd rather

have one on one conversations with people. You know, so stuff that is

Onliner it's not very important one So you might be offended by this. You

know what, It's important, the face to face. Do you know what's

important? What we do on a daily basis not what we read online.

Now sciences we get so riled up. We were wead online science, you

get so right until it affected our worldview. Guys, guys, please don't

be deceived. Please stick to what is important. Don't get influenced by media

and all the things that's happening out there. Amen. He quoted the scripture

again King David's words. He testified again on Jesus, who is brought Lord

and Christ? The people were convicted, They were cut to the heart.

Is it because or what Peter said? No, it was the Holy Spirit

convicting them. It was the first time ever that the Holy Spirit was around,

and they saw the error of their ways. The scales in their eyes

dropped. Do you know that when you preach to someone, they need to

be ready to receive the word. Do you know that we get so worried

about whether or not we rejected. Don't worry about it. It's not about

you. And if you're worried about being rejected, Jesus rejected ten times worse.

His own people rejected him. His own people rejected him. The people

he spent three years being together with, you know, the people that were

willing to die for him ran away self preservation. Don't be worried, friends,

they will cut to the heart through the work of the Holy Spirit.

And they asked what they should do. Hey, when someone comes to here

and say, Jess, I know the error of my WAYE what should I

do? You need to have an answer. No, you need to have

an answer, Peter, encourage them to do what repent, be baptized,

and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This is another three things.

As I'm studying it, I realize we need to speak about more repentance.

It is something that is rare today that I hear. You know what repentance

means? One hundred indeed, You're greater. Means you're gonna stop doing the

things that you used to do so that you can follow Jesus. That is

repentance. That is repentance, right, It is important in this process.

Repentance, a turning from your always to become born again. Another word that

I don't really hear nowadays, being born again? Are you born again?

Are we made into a new creation? This a scripture? Guys, I'm

not creating coming out. I don't know. Last time, when I was

younger, we hear a lot. No, oh, I want to be

born again. I wasn't born again. I don't understand the concept. Ezekiel

eighteen thirty three one says. Therefore, I would judge each of you or

people of Israel, according to your actions, says the sovereign Lord. Repent

and turn from your sins. Don't let them destroy you. Why does God

want us to repent and turn for our sins? Because eventually our sins will

destroy us. Eventually the things that we partake in here will destroy us since

lead to death. You know, not because the Devil's suddenly come one night

and just oh this you see let me no, no, no no.

Eventually, things that are not healthy in your life will eventually lead you to

death. But do you know that things that are healthy are very difficult to

do? Tough. I love to eat, I love it. I'm a

food eat right, But when you're older, it's hard to eat all the

time. Why am I working out so hard now? So hard? I'm

working out against my wife so hard. It was tough, Guys, I

don't like it. I'm trying to like psychle myself to do it every day.

What are the spiritual disciplines that we grow in our lives? Friends,

I pray that your spiritual discipline it's not just coming to chiche on Sunday.

You know, that's just I don't know. Warm up. I pray your

spiritual discipline is a oh paselveen, I pray no, that's now something I'm

trying to grow. When there's opportunity to pray for people, I'll pray not

because I'm personal now because I'm super holy, No, because I don't know

when I'll be able to pray for this person anymore. So when I know

something and when I hear something, I just pray and get it away and

done with right. And that is a spiritual discipline I want to grow.

We don't have to be too holy money about you know, guys, Sorry,

I use all these terms. Don't know whether you're feeling or not.

Can I encourage you to grow spiritual disciplines in your life? Yes, it's

tough. I know it's tough. Exist I think it's tough, but it's

important to do it. But look at the goal, look at the price

at look at where you were hit. Amen, don't look at just the

trouble. If I every day look at the trouble, I'm not gonna gym.

I'm trying to cite myself up. Wow, I graduated. I used

to wait graduate. I graduated from dumb bells to bus Now not so dumb.

Okay, before this are I say? Hey, can I do a

new teasue first? Right? I try to engage. I don't know much

about all these things now, so I try. I learned. I submit

myself to my coach. As I knows this, we go Jim together.

She halfway want to give up with it and I'm like, no, let's

do it together. So she had no choice. Of course, I'm there,

right, she said, no, no, no, I do two

time enough? Reday, no, no, no, we finished the round.

At least you finish four rounds and then the next round five. You

know, I don't give my chance to I don't give myself a chance to

think, because the moment I start thinking should I should, I not.

Now it's not gonna happen. So now it's just let's just do it.

finish seven. You know, I'm not gonna think so much. I'm just

gonna summit and follow. Sometimes, can we? Can we do that?

Sometimes? The Bible is good? Right, we believe in the Bible.

Right, Why can't we just sum here and follow? Why must we?

I don't know. I'm getting riled up? Can you and you continue?

I do have time, John Tree, Tree says. Jesus replied, I

tell you the truth. Unless you're born again, you cannot see the King

of God. Not my words, Jesus words. Are we born again?

Friends? Are we a new? Second? Conrintance five seventeen says, Therefore,

if anyone is in Christ. He is a new creation. All things

have passed away before, all things have become new. Hey, there is

a change that should be happening. There's a transformation that should be happening.

Our old habits, the things we used to say, have to stop.

Very quiet, guys, you guys are very quiet. I hope you're thinking,

probably thinking how to stone me. Three thousand souls were added to the

one hundred and twenty that day who believed, and the church began, and

we will continue that in part three. Let me give you some thoughts,

some reflective thoughts, and some pointers to encourage you. Okay, First,

what message are we preaching on a daily basis? What message friends in church,

to our friends, to the people around us? Are we speaking life

or death? Problems eighteen twenty one say is death and life are in the

power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

What message are we preaching? A buzzer elvan, I don't preach message,

I don't wear suit. Come here whole Bible and let you no, no,

no, no no. Every day you're preaching a message to your children,

to your friends, to the people around you. Are constantly preaching a

message Malaysia, I am Militia. You get very bad. I'm Malaitia,

very bad, Malaitia very bad. Manasure you black? What message are you

preaching? I think Malaysia is awesome. Nowhere in the world. You can

wake up at one am and have them sum nowhere Hong Kong so close.

I love maisure. What are we preaching? Can I encourage us all?

And I have five points here with one, two, three, four,

six points? Okay? And I got scripture? Back it up and after

they have to move onward? Are you guys okay? Can I hope you

receive this? The first thing that I've learned recently? Okay, well stuff

there I no longer but coming to life. The first thing is we got

to speak truth? Friends? Are we speaking truth in the situation you're not

truth? Is? Do you know what it is? Not truth? Half

life? Half truth? Got the truth? That's not truth? Our guys?

Do you know that that will so sea of doubt? Doubt? This

is another message that's brewing. Okay, but if you're not careful, you

know how the devil message? Do you know how you get messed up?

Do you know how your belief gets challenged? Do you know how slowly it

becomes unbelieved. All you need is one half truth. Maybe pass Ilvin is

doing this because he wants to be famous, maybe ten percent, one hundred

percent. Then you see her that ten percent. I don't know something.

If you don't deal with it, the ten percent, it will become twenty

percent, thirty percent, and then afterwards you know what, Yeah I am.

fans, one small thing, that seed of doubt will be sown. And

if you don't deal with it, if we don't hear the truth that will

set you free, you will become unbelief. Why did Jesus tell Gyrus clear

the room? Clear the room, only leave me and Gyrus and the daughter

Gyrus believe that Jesus can heal and save the daughter. But everybody is like,

why you're wasting his time? Unbelief can mess with you? Friends?

Do you still believe? So we're gonna speak truth. John A thirty two

says, then Jesus said to those Jews who believed him, if you're abiding

my word, you are my disciples. Indeed, can I encourage you to

abide in God's work today? Don't abide in Elvin King's word. Abide in

God's word if you need help with that, and you shall know the truth,

and the truth shall say you free friends, know the truth. I'm

not saying go and go and God say no, no, no, no

no. The truth you're not. Truth means not the true means. If

I have an issue with Evan, I can use him because we're good friends.

And then I don't talk to Evan. I talk to no Evan.

Now, then she like, pas, Elvin, you should talk to Evan

because then you can get the truth from him. I have no idea what's

happening. I don't have the full picture. Can you talk to Elvin to

understand what he means when he said that? And then truth? For I

right, he actually means something else, But we don't under Now we understand.

Now that's truth. Now there's no no doubt. Now we believe.

Now we are friends. Now truth speak true, friends, speak truth in

your life? Speak true? And sometimes truth hurts? Do you know that?

Do you know that? Have truth hurts? Sometimes it does. But

with truth you can move forward. With lies you can move forward. It's

very difficult to move forward lies. Next point, speak life, probably shifteen

one to four and just get my scripture. A soft answer turns away rath,

but a harsh word stirs up anger. The tongue of the wise users

knowledge rightly by the mouth of fool's pause for foolishness. The eyes of the

Lord in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good. A

wholesome tongue is the tree of life. Friends, Are you having a wholesome

tongue? Or do you complain all the time? It is a tree of

life. But perverseness in is in it breaks the spirit. It's true,

you know do you know that someone can go through something so good? All

it takes is a bad news to mess the person up. But if everything

can go better, but all it takes is an encouragement to lift up the

person. It is not the situation, sometimes decide. The Bible says,

there's power, there's life, and life in the powerful tone. And I've

recognized that a lot of people are just discouraged. So I try my best

to encourage people no matter what the situation. But of course I speak truthful.

I don't encourage and love them not see it comes in in hand,

right, I speak truth, speak peace. Friends. Jesus has called us

to be peacemakers. He Brews Child fortying says, pursue peace with all people,

and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord. Romans fourteen

nineteen says, therefore, let us pursue the things which make for peace,

and the things by which one may edify another, edifying one another, lifting

up on another, right, lifting up, speaking good things only, Romans

twelve, nine to twelve. What does it say? Oh? Okay,

I didn't put it up there. Please go back and do homework. Sorry,

I've got no time, so I have to faster a bit write this

down. Romans child nine to chelf. Go back and do homework and read

it. Okay, speak peace. Jesus is the priest of peace. If

we are following Jesus, I'm giving you a logic. If we are following

Jesus, then shouldn't we bring peace to every situation? Or do we agree

when there's trouble? Or do we create trouble? It can be anything in

no, friends, do we bring peace in the situation. We gotta ask

God to help us. God help me bring peace. I always want to

bring peace. Even if I have a disagreement with a brother, I always

seek peace. First. We agree to disagree, but let's at peace.

It's okay. One, It's okay. One, one die one. It's

okay. If you're not right all the time. Friends, I know my

wife is right all the time. But it's okay. Four points speak healing

James five fourteen nineteen. Is anyone among you sick, Let him call for

the elders of the church, and let him pray over him, annoying thing

him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith

will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if

he has committed since he'll be forgiven. One oh seven says. Then they

cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them out of

their distress. Who saved them? They cried out to the Lord. Are

you in trouble today? When you cry out to the Lord, he will

save you. He will save you. Amen. He sent his word and

healed them and delivered them from their destruction. Some study two says, Oh

Lord, my God, I cried out to you, and you healed me.

Speak healing. I don't know where else you can hear. I don't

know where else you can hear. The people believe in healing the way we

believe in healing as believers, by the mere fact that Christ died on the

cross, and we have Isaiah fifty three of US three. We always proclaim

and speak that by his stripes we are healed. And we've seen healing happened

in his church. Two weeks ago. There was healing after this during the

testimony time, someone's gonna testavebout healing. Speak the good news. Isaiah fifty
