  1. You're listening to a message to go from Acts Church.

  2. We hope this message will light up your day.

  3. Today, I'm sure you all know, we are going through

  4. our 12 plus 1 core values. And today, I have

  5. the privilege of sharing on our 10th value, which is

  6. praise generating. Correct? I need to double check. Because sometimes

  7. it's on, sometimes it's not on. So I'm not sure. Okay. Okay.

  8. Let's read the Scriptures, Acts 2, verse 47. So today

    Acts 2:47

  9. I'm going to bring you through what we believe in

  10. as X Church. So you call your church X Church,

  11. this is what you believe in, okay? I hope you

  12. are believing in it. Acts 2, and we're going to

  13. read the Scripture again as a refresher. Acts 2, verse 42,

    Acts 2:42

  14. I think. 42. Okay.

  15. Okay.

  16. Okay, it says here, and they continued steadfastly in the

  17. apostles' doctrine and fellowship in the breaking of bread and prayers.

  18. Then fear came upon every soul and many wonders and

  19. signs were done through the apostles. Now all who believed

  20. were together and had all things in common. Thank you

  21. so much. And sold their possessions and goods and divided

  22. them among all as anyone had need. So continuing daily

  23. with one accord in the temple and breaking bread from

  24. house to house, they ate their food with gladness and

  25. simplicity of heart. Sounds like church, okay? Homes, church, all

  26. these things. And this is the verse. Praising God and

  27. having favour with all people. And the Lord added to

  28. the church daily those who were being saved. I can

  29. tell you, as I read this scripture, I can tell

  30. you that having favour with all people is a very,

  31. very real thing. especially for our church. Because which other

  32. church can tell you that they've been in the same

  33. location for, at least for PJ, this is our testimony,

  34. same location for 14 years and the management that manages

  35. the location changed. So much so, every time the new

  36. management come out, they ask me for advice. I'm like,

  37. you own this place, right? You know, they are asking

  38. me for permission. Weird, right? I'm like, but I'm the tenant,

  39. you know, that kind of thing. So it was so interesting.

  40. that the Lord's favour is upon us. Amen? But let's

  41. go to what we mean by praise generating. Praising God, okay?

  42. I don't think any of us will have any issue

  43. with praising God. Anybody here got issue with praising God?

  44. You don't like worship one? You hate worship, hate worship songs?

  45. You only believe in the Word? No worship? You better

  46. not shake your head. I'm just testing you all, okay?

  47. We should all worship God, right? Because God made us

  48. to worship Him. Do you know that? Do you know

  49. that as a Christian that God made us to worship Him,

  50. that's the core of our understanding. So worship is key,

  51. you know, not for you, for Him. Sometimes I fail

  52. with the ballet. Because when we worship God, right, we

  53. also gain something, right? But sometimes the focus is so

  54. much on us, right, that we forget actually we are

  55. worshipping God. We are not worshipping the songs, we are

  56. not worshipping the worship leader, we are not worshipping the experience.

  57. It's very dangerous. I tell you, it's so, man, every

  58. time I say this, I feel old. Because I remember

  59. being young and being excited when I want to go

  60. for Christian concert and all, but I see a very

  61. dangerous trend where the worship is the experience and I

  62. wonder whether God is in it. Right? We can conveniently say,

  63. oh no, but it's God. But then, the moment you

  64. start picking worship, meaning worship only looks like this, but

  65. when you're at homes and there's no band and you

  66. don't even have guitar, you cannot worship. That's quite dangerous, no?

  67. That's quite dangerous. That's why I think X just trained

  68. me quite well. Because go anywhere, can still worship one.

  69. The worship leader off-key, can still worship one. I still

  70. remember last time when I was younger, coming to X, right?

  71. And I remember, I think I remember Joe was there.

  72. And every time we go for events, right? We are

  73. the loudest people. I don't know why. Siawan, sia people. Woo!

  74. You know? Worship leader off-key, we're like, yeah, let's do it,

  75. you know? Now already, maybe we less, less. No, I still,

  76. Joe still has it. Okay? You know? Yeah? Huh? You

  77. cannot hear it? That's why you have to ask whose name, right?

  78. Whose name, right? Do you remember? Just joking. We have

  79. good friends. We have good friends. Oh no, he's dissing

  80. Joe Lloyd. Praise. Praising God. Okay? Praising God is something

  81. called in our Christian. So you won't argue with that, right?

  82. We all know that we need to praise God. We

  83. all know. Sometimes we forget, okay? Sometimes we get a

  84. bit too picky, right? That, you know, songs matter. I

  85. believe songs matter. I believe songs matter because there are

  86. a lot of songs out there and not every song

  87. glorifies God. Some songs glorify the singer. When I say singer,

  88. I'm not talking about the singer, I'm talking about us.

  89. You know, it's all about me. Yesterday we had VA

  90. production and the Ninevites were singing all about them. Songs

  91. talking about them. So praising God or praise is in

  92. our DNA, amen? Praise is in our DNA. It doesn't

  93. matter whether, oh, I'm a very quiet one, so I cannot. No, no, friends,

  94. don't get it wrong. Because if you keep quiet, the

  95. rocks will cry out. It's in Scripture. So don't be

  96. quiet to praise God. Praise is in our DNA. Praise

  97. is positive. It's not negative. Oh, God, thank you. No,

  98. it's positive one, no? Doesn't matter how you feel. You read.

  99. You want to learn about praise? Read Psalms. The book

  100. of Psalms. So many... Even the part where King David,

  101. because he wrote that, right? Even the part where he

  102. was lamenting, lamenting, right? You know what lamenting means? Complaining, right?

  103. Sulking to God. He always ends well, no? He always

  104. ends with, no matter what God, you're still good. No

  105. matter what God, you're still good. No matter what God,

  106. you're still, you know, and then got some praise, wow,

  107. quite God-ass, no? You know, Lord, I know my enemies

  108. are surrounding me, but you will get them. I think

  109. that's praise also, in a very interesting way, right? Praise

  110. is positive. Praise is lifting God up, amen? We got

  111. to lift God up with our praise, okay? Lifting God up.

  112. And praise is also lifting people up. That's why we

  113. share testimonies. We honour people. That's praise. That's our church, friends.

  114. Are you guys catching it or not? Okay, right? So

  115. I think praise is something we all understand. Praise is

  116. something we practice. Don't care where you are as a believer,

  117. you understand praise. But then our core value is praise generating.

  118. What does it mean? Generating. You all know a generator? Generator, right?

  119. You know, what does a generator do? A generator, you

  120. only need a generator when there's no electricity. The main

  121. power grid fails, right? You need a generator, right? Then

  122. you crank it up. Put petrol, crank it, crank it,

  123. and then it runs. Those old school generator lah, okay?

  124. If you do not generator is because you use power bank.

  125. No electricity, power bank lah, okay? Please go and Google

  126. what is generator, okay? Because in a jungle, there's no

  127. power bank for you, right? Generator generates electricity. When there's

  128. no generator, there's no electricity, right? So praise generating means

  129. we want to be able to generate praise when there's

  130. no reason to praise. You all catching that? When there's

  131. no reason, how do you mean by no reason to praise?

  132. God is good, ma. God is good. All these old

  133. school Christians that understands that one. All the time? Catching it,

  134. catching it. People like to do that last time, you know. Yeah,

  135. we want to generate praise, friends. We want to understand

  136. what it means like to generate praise. Are we in

  137. biblical or not? It is very biblical. Very biblical. Read Psalms,

  138. you will understand. That even when King David didn't feel

  139. like it, he still praised God.

  140. Right?

  141. He still praised God. He generated praise. Right? Because when

  142. the generator starts, there's no power. So we need to keep...

  143. So how do we keep generating friends? How do we

  144. keep generating praise?

  145. Right?

  146. Because the tendency is that when things happen, when you're

  147. not happy, when you cannot praise, it's not praise that

  148. comes out of our mouths. No, it's complaints. It's lamenting.

  149. It's the, why me? It's the, God, you know, go

  150. find someone else to, you know, why? Right? It's difficult. Right?

  151. It's difficult to remain positive. Correct? It's difficult. It's tough.

  152. It's tough when someone else is enjoying life and you're suffering.

  153. And they deserve it because they are more wicked. Or

  154. they are not nice people. And you are nice, but

  155. somehow nice, they say, what nice guys, what? Finish last. Right?

  156. Is that correct? Huh? Nice guys die early, is it?

  157. I don't know. Okay, let's not go there, okay? It's

  158. getting weird. Friends, can I ask you a question? If

  159. Jesus has already come and He has already given us

  160. the power to overcome, if Jesus already came and all

  161. of us believe in Christ, He's given us the power to, well,

  162. not power, but He's given us the keys to the kingdom, right?

  163. He's given us everything. And if He has come Don't

  164. you think it's worth praising no matter what happens? Because

  165. He's taken everything. He's taken sin. He's given us a

  166. way out. He's restored our relationship with God the Father

  167. that we can pray. You know, I really like this

  168. line someone taught me. I can't remember who. He said,

  169. Christians have an unfair advantage. We can pray. I don't

  170. know how many of us believe in that. Right? We

  171. have an unfair advantage because we can pray. Right? So praise. Praise.

  172. You know, And we are people of the cross. the

  173. cross is positive not negative positive jesus added to our

  174. lives it was a plus jesus was always positive right

  175. he was he's always positive But that's the thing that

  176. is difficult. Some days we just don't have it. Some

  177. days we just don't have praise. How we try is,

  178. you know, because we are emotional beings and that's not

  179. a bad thing because God made us who we are.

  180. We just don't have it. Right? You just don't feel

  181. like it. Let me give you an example. Right? So

  182. you're hungry and you're at home and you've got no food. How? Huh?

  183. Or the grab? Huh? Yeah, now we got grab. Can

  184. order grab. What else? No, no money. Wah, so kasihan.

  185. Drink water lor. Oh man, I should talk to the,

  186. talk to the families. Actually, I talk to families here lah.

  187. No food how? No food how? No grab how? Cook lah.

  188. Correct or not? Then you're like, I don't know how

  189. to cook. Learn lor. Cook, no money, cook jiva mah.

  190. Right?

  191. Okay? Of course you can throw more problems at me,

  192. but there's a way, right? If there's no food, there's

  193. a way to find food, right? Correct or not? Right?

  194. You have to make it lah. Right? Got no money,

  195. you have to make money lah. Right? Got no way,

  196. yes God will make a way, but we have to

  197. find a way lah. Correct or not? So when there's

  198. no reason to praise, what do we do? Just keep

  199. quiet lah. Is it? Make praise lah. Make praise. I

  200. don't have it ready. It's not ready-made already. There's no package.

  201. Sometimes our lives is not ready-made. Most times our lives

  202. is not ready-made. You know? I want to sing this song,

  203. but the worship leader is not singing it. My favorite

  204. song that just came out, not singing it. I got

  205. no mood to praise. Something bad happened yesterday. Oh, I

  206. want to go to this university, but, ayah, Didn't get.

  207. Had to go and learn university. I want to buy

  208. this car. You know, this car, this colour, this type. Aiyo,

  209. but don't have already. No stock. Only got hot pink.

  210. What is that one thing that we wanted but didn't have? Right?

  211. And then we cannot praise God. Can't we praise God

  212. that you can actually go to university because there are

  213. a lot of people that couldn't go to university? Can't

  214. you praise God that you know, that is a worship leader?

  215. Leading you in worship? That there are songs that we

  216. can sing? Why must it be that one song? You

  217. mean all the other songs cannot, is it? Wah, susah

  218. lah like that. Very difficult. You know? Want to buy

  219. this car? Sure. Aren't you grateful that you can actually

  220. afford to buy a car? Even if you didn't get

  221. the car that you liked? Even if you didn't? Why

  222. can't we Generate praise. Lord, thank you so much. You know,

  223. the Bible teaches us about contentment. The Bible teaches us

  224. about enter His courts with thanksgiving in our hearts. Right? Sorry,

  225. enter His gates with thanksgiving in our hearts and into

  226. His courts with praise. Right? Thanksgiving first, then praise. How

  227. do you get thanksgiving? Being thankful. Are we thankful for

  228. what we have? Humans are very insatiable. We always look

  229. at what we don't have. But we don't look at

  230. what we have. That's the thing. So can we generate praise?

  231. Because if you want to complain, there's a lot of

  232. things you can complain about in life. But do you

  233. want to live like that way? Can we generate praise? Amen?

  234. What's our frame of mind when things like that happen?

  235. Do we praise or do we complain? Because you see,

  236. it's easy to praise when good things happen. Right? It's

  237. easy to praise when good things happen. But when bad

  238. things happen, can we still praise God and say, thank God.

  239. Thank God this didn't happen to me. See, that's why

  240. I say you can only have that perspective if you're

  241. either a little bit older, because old people go through

  242. quite a lot in life, so we know, or you

  243. have an understanding of God in your life. Because on

  244. one hand, we say, God, you have all things good.

  245. I love you. God is good all the time. You

  246. all just said it, huh? Means even in bad times,

  247. He's good, right? Meaning because in times where we think

  248. it's bad, actually God is still there. God is still

  249. good Right? Supposed to be lah. You don't feel like

  250. it mah, but supposed to be lah. Right? Isn't that

  251. still true to us? And I'm not just teaching you

  252. how to be positive, you know. Let me share with

  253. you a testimony. Right? Because it might not be the

  254. best in our understanding, but can we still be positive

  255. and look at things in the way of praise? Let

  256. me reframe that. Can we look at things in the

  257. way of praise to God? Right? It's not just positive thinking.

  258. So this example I give you is quite personal to me.

  259. Because I remember there was a time in my life

  260. where I wanted to shift to PJ. So I stay

  261. in Shah Alam. Actually, a lot of people don't know that.

  262. I actually met one church member, like my partner and

  263. the family, very near my house. Near my house, they

  264. just opened a sushi mentai. And I went there to eat.

  265. Then I saw them. I'm like, eh, where are you here?

  266. So far from where you stay. I mean, not far lah. It's, what,

  267. 20 minutes? Okay. Okay. And then they're like, oh yeah, yeah,

  268. how about you? Why are you so far from where

  269. you sit? I'm like, Jason Gan. I'm like, no, not far.

  270. Five minutes only in my house. Then he like, huh?

  271. You mean you stay here? I said, yeah, because when

  272. I wanted to buy a house, Kota Good Morning got

  273. a very good salesperson. Pastor Dr. Kenneth Chin, okay? Super

  274. hard sell, right? So we all found a place there, right?

  275. And he was so shocked. He's like, you mean for

  276. the past so long, I always thought that you were

  277. in PJ because that's where you are. I'm like, yeah.

  278. But God has a sense of humour. Then I found out, Selina,

  279. all of our CBCs stay very far away from our

  280. church plant. Oh no, I found out, I realised, all

  281. of us, we stay very far from. Even Elder Peng

  282. Ho taking care of Subang, where does he say? Bukit Jalil.

  283. Not even in Subang. God has a sense of humour.

  284. So there was a season in my life where I

  285. was not happy. Not happy is very dangerous, right? And

  286. I was not happy. And I was so not happy

  287. that I wanted to shift nearer to my church plant.

  288. And I had a very good reason too, because go

  289. church plant lah. Guys, good right? If Pastor Alvin come

  290. and stay near y'all. Actually, I don't know whether it's

  291. good idea or not. You know, we can open house

  292. or homes, right? We can, you know, have fellowship, meet

  293. each other. Now very difficult, no? Now I want to

  294. plan meeting them lah. Wah, I have to really plan

  295. months and weeks ahead, right? Logistically, it's like difficult, right? So,

  296. I wanted a shift and I was looking for house.

  297. And my dear wife, Lie on me, okay? Let me

  298. tell you how serious I was, right? Looking for a house.

  299. Because I, because, okay, let me use this word properly.

  300. I didn't like my house very strongly, right? Because it

  301. was too big, it was very difficult to manage, it's

  302. an old house, right? And there were different things happening

  303. in my life which made me go like, you know,

  304. shift to BJ, nearer to my workplace, nearer to my

  305. kids' school, right? A lot of reasons. You know, can

  306. do ministry, all these things. So then, therefore, I embarked

  307. on a journey to find a house in PJ. And

  308. the interesting thing that I learned is PJ is very expensive.

  309. More expensive than KL, no? Do you know that? I

  310. don't know why. People love PJ. So we went and looked.

  311. So for two years, I was looking for a house

  312. in PJ. These pre-pandemic days. I was so frustrated, I

  313. was willing to shift and relocate. And I said, my

  314. poor dear wife submitted and followed. How serious I am?

  315. Serious until like, you know what, let's spend money by

  316. staying at Wisdom, stay in Airbnb for a month so

  317. they can feel how it's like to stay in PJ. Wisdom, right?

  318. You know, pray and ask God, God, open the door, right?

  319. But thank God, right, for me, because I guess as

  320. frustrated as I am and as motivated as I am,

  321. I'm still not bodoh lah, okay? I'm still not dumb

  322. and foolish and young lah, okay? Got a bit more experience.

  323. Got burned enough times to not make too hasty a decision.

  324. So then, you know, of course, God has to be

  325. in it. And I said, God, you need to show

  326. me the way. But I was convinced with all my

  327. heart that I'm going to shift, okay? That this was

  328. the right thing to do because I hated my house, right?

  329. And I remember, didn't work, didn't happen. After two years

  330. of searching, it didn't make sense, right? I couldn't find

  331. an open door. I couldn't find the right place, right?

  332. There were different possibilities, but it was like, do I

  333. sell the house? And the thing about Kotaku Morning is

  334. that our rental is very affordable one. I mean, I

  335. bought my current place, but rental is affordable. But PJ

  336. rental is a bit more higher. So the plan was

  337. to rent in PJ and still maintain the house and

  338. rent out, but it didn't make sense financially. Right? Of

  339. course you can say, oh, you know, trust in God lah,

  340. have faith lah. Let's take the step of faith and

  341. do it lah. But I'm like, Probably not a good idea.

  342. So I was disappointed. I didn't blame God. And I

  343. remember this very clearly, okay? Husbands, you got to feel

  344. me in this. Because if you have a wife that

  345. really submits to you, even though she's wise with all

  346. the things, and the Bible does say, listen to your wife, okay?

  347. Because she does give you good advice, right? And I

  348. remember telling her and said, dear, you know what? It's okay,

  349. let's just stay. So I felt I settled, I felt like, ah,

  350. let's just give up and just settle with this life

  351. that I'm not happy with. And I remember very clearly

  352. that meeting I had with her and when I told

  353. her that, I saw two years of stress leave her face.

  354. I kid you not. Two years of stress leave her face, no?

  355. And I'm like, oh my goodness. What am I doing

  356. as a husband? I think no husband want that for

  357. their wife, no? But husbands, you got to be careful

  358. when you got some bright idea, right? Some bright plan, right?

  359. That you think will help your family and So that's

  360. what happened to me. So I settled. Also I thought,

  361. I settled. And said, okay, God, I'm not going to

  362. try so hard anymore. Maybe it's not meant to be.

  363. I will be okay with this plan. Although I thought,

  364. in my mind, I thought that, you know, if you

  365. open up a house and I can testify that, wow,

  366. you're so good. You know, I can say in PJ,

  367. very happening. But no. The thing that I didn't tell

  368. you also is that the house that I got right

  369. now was actually a testimony house. that God really opened

  370. the door and gave us a house. It was a

  371. house that when we wanted to buy, not this actual house,

  372. but another house that cost the same, I thought I

  373. couldn't afford it, but somehow I managed to afford it.

  374. So after I settled, staying and saying, okay, no testimony, nothing,

  375. just stay lah. This is pre-pandemic. Then pandemic happened. Let

  376. me tell you the plan. The plan was to rent

  377. maybe a condo in PJ, right? because it's cheaper, so

  378. they can do ministry, stay nearer, better for life, no

  379. need to travel so far. Suddenly I still dream, what

  380. if we stay in PJ? After church, five minutes only,

  381. drive back home, then can sleep already. Now after church,

  382. we have to brave the jam. Then tired, you know.

  383. So that was the plan. But it didn't make sense.

  384. Renting out my house, two double-storey house in KK, was

  385. cheaper than renting a house in... Crazy, economics. Then pandemic happened. Friends,

  386. thank God I didn't shift to PJ. I can tell

  387. you with all conviction today, thank God, God didn't answer

  388. my prayer. Thank God. Because I calculated, I don't know

  389. about you guys, but I don't know whether I should

  390. say this, I don't know if anybody affected by pandemic,

  391. but pandemic was awesome. I'm not talking about pandemic, I'm

  392. talking about that season of life in my life was good.

  393. Because we saved a lot of money during that time, financially.

  394. I had a big house where if you're tired of

  395. each other, we can go downstairs, upstairs, a lot of rooms.

  396. Imagine if I were to stay in a small box condo.

  397. Some of you are saying condo, I'm not dissing you,

  398. but I'm just saying during pandemic, it would have been madness.

  399. And I reflected, if God would have answered my prayer

  400. and given me what I want, two things would have

  401. happened in my life. I would have been in financial

  402. ruin and my marriage, I don't know whether I'll still

  403. have a marriage or not. So sometimes we pray for

  404. things and we hope for things and when God don't

  405. give it to us, we think it's the worst thing ever.

  406. I thank God that God didn't give me Do you

  407. know that after that happened, He gave me a change

  408. of mind, a change of heart? Because, and it's all principle-based,

  409. sowing and reaping and stewardship. God taught me this. He said, Alvin,

  410. I gave you this big house. What do you do

  411. with it? You say you don't like it so much.

  412. You say you hate it. You say it's so old.

  413. You say all these expensive flowers, I want to renovate.

  414. What are you doing with the house? He gave me

  415. that word before pandemic, you know. So during pandemic, I

  416. started little, little projects. More bright ideas for my wife

  417. to be stressed about. It's like, okay. And this one,

  418. I think I learned from Pastor also. Okay, God, thank

  419. you for the house. Not the best, not in the

  420. best package. Can I fully utilize? So the thought process was,

  421. can I fully utilize every single corner of the house

  422. and make it beautiful? Beautiful. Right? Because God gave this

  423. to me and I want to be a good steward.

  424. Can I make sure that every corner of the house,

  425. my house, is being utilised? Right? To the best of

  426. its ability and make it beautiful. Right? So there are

  427. different corners of the house. I'm not sure that any

  428. of you have but the problem with having big houses

  429. is there are some corners you don't touch one. Cause

  430. too much work and all. So I started embarking on

  431. a project. You know? Got a garden ready. Right? Did

  432. different things. I think Elaine understands because She's architect, so no,

  433. architecture ID, right? So during this mode, we were colleagues.

  434. I talked to her a lot. Could I do this?

  435. Could I have like a balcony and some, you know,

  436. so that we can have a party on the balcony,

  437. stuff like that, okay? We didn't do it, we didn't,

  438. too crazy. So I started doing different things which made

  439. the house more livable. Let me tell you the other

  440. interesting thing that happened. I started loving my house. See,

  441. I hated my house. I prayed for God to make

  442. a way because it makes sense. Change of heart, I

  443. started living in my house. One of the biggest projects

  444. that happened, and this is after pandemic, was the extension

  445. of my house, right? And I'm a person that cooks.

  446. I like to cook, okay? And I managed to survive

  447. with a kitchen that is big, okay? I don't know

  448. how I managed to do it. So then the plan

  449. was to extend it and... We completed the renovations last year,

  450. right dear? Last year. It took six months, I think.

  451. Six to eight months. Last year. I love my kitchen, man.

  452. And then in my mind, I'm like, why did I

  453. want to shift? Why did I want to shift so

  454. seriously that it took me two years to... You get

  455. what I mean? Why am I sharing this with you? Friends,

  456. I'm sharing this because we need to learn how to

  457. generate praise. I so thank God I didn't shift. I

  458. so thank God He didn't answer my prayer. Well, He

  459. answered my prayer lah. His way, not my way. Right?

  460. I so thank God. Right? That God has a bigger

  461. perspective about my life than myself. That He cares for

  462. me so much that He's willing to let me go

  463. through pain now so that I don't suffer long term later.

  464. This is the God we serve, you know. This is

  465. the God that cares for us. Right? The business of

  466. the church, friends, is to generate praise. even when there's

  467. nothing to praise about. You all catch that? This is

  468. why we share testimony. Because God works, right? You know,

  469. in PJ, right, I can tell you the whole like, oh,

  470. no testimony this week, no testimony this week. I think

  471. we got quite used to it for a while. Until

  472. this year, right, you know, where we said, no way,

  473. we're going to hunt down for testimonies. And then this

  474. is something I learned. Zina, I share with you, it's

  475. something I learned. Actually got testimony one. Because when you

  476. have homes, right, Everybody can share one. But somehow on Sunday,

  477. people forget. Not their fault. So you know what we

  478. started doing? Our home leader started sharing the testimony in

  479. the LSPO chat and we started just assigning them to

  480. share on Sunday. Now we got testimony until end of

  481. the year. Interesting, huh? So it's just an administrative problem.

  482. It's not like God's not working. God is working. Just administratively,

  483. people have a tendency to forget. And we understand that

  484. because if you read the Bible, the Israelites forgot all

  485. that God has done for them. So it's normal. So

  486. we just need to administrate better. Wish, Selena's very good

  487. at one. Just a tip. Or maybe you all can

  488. help her. So there is testimonies. God is good. And

  489. in the church, we are in the business of generating praise. Amen?

  490. Even when there's nothing to praise. Habakkuk chapter 3 verse

    Habakkuk 3:17–19

  491. 17 to 19 says, Though the fig tree may not blossom,

  492. nor fruit be on the vines, though the labour of

  493. the olive may fail, and the fields yield no food,

  494. though the flock may be cut off from the fold,

  495. and there may no herd in the stalls, yet I

  496. will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the

  497. God of my salvation. The Lord God is my strength.

  498. he will make my feet like deer's feet and he

  499. will make me walk on my high heels to the

  500. chief musician with my string instruments. So friends, praise is

  501. actually a choice, not a feeling. It's not a feeling,

  502. it's a choice. It is a choice when we wake

  503. up on a Sunday morning, whether or not we want

  504. to be early for worship to praise God. Because whether

  505. he deserves the praise or whether I feel like praising

  506. or not. Right?

  507. Right?

  508. It's a choice. Extreme knows this really well. Those of

  509. us who are leaders, we know this really well. That's

  510. why we dress up, we come to praise God. My

  511. dressing is not for myself. You know how hot this is?

  512. You know? My dressing is to praise God. I give

  513. God the glory because He deserves my best. And that's

  514. something we teach in Acts.

  515. Right?

  516. And the reality is that it will not always go

  517. our way in life. If you didn't know by now.

  518. It will not always go easy. But we can still

  519. generate praise. Amen? But we can still find a way

  520. to praise. How many of you like a person that

  521. every time you see the person is all woe is me,

  522. woe is me. I know someone like that. Right? And

  523. I always jab him. Much better now already. I always say, oh,

  524. you know, your spirit animal is Eeyore. So bad, right?

  525. It's much better now already. Right? Everything also like, oh,

  526. you know. Don't lah. Not fun to hang out with one, no. Right?

  527. But imagine a person that when you hang out with, right,

  528. always got something good to say one. Even though raining

  529. also ah, oh, at least raining ah, cooling can sleep.

  530. No matter what happens ah, This person always can find some,

  531. don't you like people like that? Don't you think we

  532. should be people like that because Jesus already did so

  533. much in our lives? It is a choice, you know.

  534. It is a choice that we can make, you know.

  535. And is it going to be easy? No. Do you

  536. know how hard is it to make the choice to

  537. be happy every morning? Not easy. But maybe because nowadays

  538. I'm older already, sometimes I'm already at the stage of like,

  539. It's okay lah. I a bit tired to fight lah.

  540. I a bit tired to fight for my right. No lah,

  541. no need. It's okay one. Let's just chill. Right? Let's

  542. just find good things. Let's just find good things. Can

  543. we find good things? Right? God is good all the time.

  544. Can we find good things? You know? Acts 16.25. Paul

  545. and Silas. Right? And this one I really consent them.

  546. You know? Because what happened was that They were out,

  547. you know, just doing ministry or I think they were

  548. going to the temple. And then there was a demon-possessed

  549. girl or someone that come and, eh, these people, these people,

  550. like kacau them, you know, like disturb them. And because

  551. I think Paul, he's quite hot-headed, you know, based on

  552. what we understand, he's quite like, you know, strong one.

  553. He cast the demon out. And basically, last time, what

  554. happened is that they will use people who are demon-possessed

  555. to to do medium work, you know, to earn money, basically, right?

  556. In that place. So the people that own the demon possessed,

  557. isn't it good? Demon possessed, then cast out. Don't you

  558. think it's good? Good, right? Set free, right? But they

  559. were not happy because, hey, my golden goose is cooked already.

  560. So they got them arrested. Imagine you as a wonderful

  561. believer going your own wonderful way, not doing anything. Suddenly

  562. someone come and kacau you. disturb you. And then you're like, eh,

  563. stop it lah. In Jesus' name, be gone. Acting on

  564. your authority. And then the person set free. But because

  565. you mess with someone else's business, you are put in jail.

  566. You happy or not? Not your fault, right? Is it

  567. your fault? Some of you feel like that. Some of

  568. you probably, eh, yeah lah, this one sound like my

  569. story in office. I keeping to myself ah, don't get

  570. in office politics ah. Suddenly I get fired. Is it

  571. your fault? Not your fault. People are evil. Things happen.

  572. What did Paul and Silas do in the prison? But

  573. at midnight, Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns

  574. to God. And the prisoners were listening to them. Crazy lah,

  575. these two fellas. Don't you think so? They should fight

  576. for right, you know? And Paul was a Roman citizen.

  577. He knew his rights. He was like a lawyer. Why

  578. did he accept his fate? What was wrong with him? Right,

  579. what was wrong with him? Acts chapter 16, 25. Let's

    Acts 16 chapter mention

  580. read on, okay? Let's read on. And they had laid

  581. many stripes on them and, oh wow, okay, let's read

  582. before that. Now it happened as we went to prayer

  583. that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of

  584. divination met us who brought her masters much profit by

  585. fortune telling. Okay? This girl followed Paul and us and

  586. cried out saying, these men are servants of the most

  587. high God who proclaim to us the way of salvation.

  588. And this she did for many days but Paul greatly

  589. annoyed Okay, Paul was annoyed. He actually annoyed Paul. Turned

  590. and said to the spirit, I command you in the

  591. name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And

  592. he came out at that very hour. But when the

  593. masters saw that their hope of profit was gone, they

  594. seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace

  595. to the authorities. They brought them to the magistrates and said,

  596. this man being Jews exceedingly troubled our city. And they

  597. teach customs which are not lawful for us being Romans

  598. to receive or observe. Then the multitude rose up together

  599. against them, and the magistrates tore off their clothes and

  600. commanded them to be beaten with rods. Wah, so drama.

  601. So drama. Other people drama, you are just chilling, and

  602. other people drama. And when they had laid many stripes

  603. on them, not enough throw them in jail, have to

  604. beat some more. Threw them into prison, commanding the jailer

  605. to keep them securely. Having received such a charge, he

  606. put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet

  607. in the socks. How many of you at this point now,

  608. you'll probably be like, I don't know. God, how do

  609. you do this to me? Why do you make me suffer?

  610. Why are you doing this injustice? Or some of us

  611. will go, let me talk to your boss. Let me

  612. talk to the manager. Let me defend myself. I didn't

  613. do anything wrong. But at midnight, Paul and Silas were

  614. praying and singing hymns to God. And the prisoners were

  615. listening to them. Huh? Let's read on. Suddenly, there was

  616. a great earthquake so that the foundations of the prison

  617. were shaken. Immediately, all the doors were opened and everyone's

  618. chain was loose. And the keeper of the prison, awaking

  619. from sleep and seeing the prison doors open, supposing the

  620. prisoners had fled, drew his sword and was about to

  621. kill himself. I'm going to stop there for a while.

  622. Do you know that Paul and Silas did it God's way,

  623. not their way? And because Paul and Silas did it

  624. God's way, God showed up for them. You mean their

  625. hymns were so powerful that the doors were opened and

  626. there was an earthquake?

  627. No.

  628. God showed up for them. There's a scripture in the

  629. Bible that says that the Lord will vindicate me. Do

  630. we understand the Lord we serve or not? That even

  631. when you face injustice in your own life, God will

  632. come through for you. You don't have to do anything.

  633. You just need to keep praising Him. It's not positive thinking,

  634. our friends. Some people will look at it and go, foolishness! Yeah,

  635. it's foolishness in the eyes of man. In the eyes

  636. of man, it's foolishness. But we believe in the God

  637. of the supernatural. That's something we got to understand, Christians. Right?

  638. The world will never understand this because they are the world.

  639. They don't have a relationship with Christ. But for those

  640. of us who have a relationship with Christ, those of

  641. us who understand who our God is, we get this.

  642. You understand that? We get this. And then what happened later?

  643. But Paul called out with a loud voice saying, do

  644. yourself no harm for we are all here. Then he

  645. called for light, ran in and fell down trembling before

  646. Paul and Silas. And he brought them out and said, sirs,

  647. what must I do to be saved? So they said,

  648. believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you'll be saved,

  649. you and your household. Then they spoke the word of

  650. the Lord to him and to all were in his house.

  651. And he took them the same hour of the night

  652. and washed their stripes And immediately, he and all his

  653. family were baptized. Now when he had brought them into

  654. his house, he set foot before them and he rejoiced,

  655. having belief in God and all his household. So that's

  656. what happened. The jailer was saved because of this supernatural event.

  657. But you see, it didn't end there, you know. Let's

  658. read on. And when he was dead, it was night,

  659. so God kind of spared Paul and Silas to sleep

  660. in the jail cell. Now got proper bed to sleep. Right?

  661. Wounds were washed. And then in the day, right, all

  662. the bosses wake up. What happened? The magistrates sent officers saying,

  663. let those men go. So that the keeper of the

  664. prison reported these words to Paul saying, the magistrates have

  665. sent to let you go. Now, therefore, depart, go in

  666. your peace. But Paul said to them, they have beaten

  667. us openly. So the magistrates were afraid after what happened.

  668. But now Paul said, hey, hello, I'm a Roman citizen.

  669. Don't play, play. Right? I'm not going to. So he

  670. had more, what's that word? leverage on them. So you see,

  671. if you understand this, there are times where we need

  672. to act and there are times where we need to

  673. let God move. And most times, if not, I will

  674. argue all times, we need to let God move first.

  675. And after God has moved, then we pick up the pieces.

  676. After God has moved, then we move. Because when God moves, right,

  677. you cannot like, oh, God moved already, you just sit

  678. there and do nothing. And we also shouldn't, God haven't

  679. moved yet, you start doing everything. Right? God needs to move.

  680. We pray, believe, God needs to move, and then we

  681. step in. Friends, have you ever felt like you were

  682. in a dungeon? Maybe some of you are in a

  683. dungeon right now. I wonder what song you'll be singing

  684. in a dungeon. And do you know that when people

  685. know that you're a believer, and where you're in a dungeon,

  686. do you know that people are actually listening to you?

  687. Do you know that when you're going through a tough

  688. time in life, and they know you're a Christian, do

  689. you know that people are actually observing you? They are

  690. listening to what you say, Let me give you a

  691. last point. James chapter 3, verse 9 to 10. Just

    James 3:9–10

  692. something for us to remember. You might know this already,

  693. but just something for us to remember. James 3, 9

  694. to 10. I think it's up there. James chapter 3,

    James 3 chapter mention

  695. 9 to 10. Got it? With it, so he's talking

  696. about the tongue. With our tongue, we bless our God

  697. and Father. And with it, we curse men who have

  698. been made in the simility of God. Contradictory, right? What

  699. does Stan say? Out of the same mouth proceed blessing

  700. and cursing, my brethren, these things ought not to be so.

  701. Praise is praise. Last week, I don't know whether it

  702. was last week, we talked about unity guarded and about

  703. how gossip can break friendships. You know, the power of

  704. our tongue is very powerful. And if, let's say, some

  705. of us here have a loose tongue, we need to

  706. learn to tame the tongue. But it's difficult. The Bible

  707. does say it's difficult. You know, I think I had

  708. a head start when I was young. Because when I

  709. was young, my mother already taught me this language. Until today,

  710. I can remember. Which makes it difficult for me sometimes

  711. to complain. Because she say, if you got nothing better

  712. to say, don't say it. And she trained me well.

  713. Because if I say bad things and she's there, pow!

  714. So quiet. So much so that sometimes I feel very,

  715. what's that word? Taken advantage of because I will keep quiet.

  716. Sometimes we feel. So then I learn like Paul like that.

  717. Sometimes you got to speak your peace. Have wisdom. But

  718. we got to understand that our tongue is very powerful.

  719. Do we want to praise God more and to speak

  720. good things more or Are we loose with our tongue

  721. when things happen? That's something for us to think about.

  722. Because men, and this scripture is very powerful because we

  723. are blessing God, we are singing praises to God here.

  724. And with the same mouth, we curse men that is

  725. made in the image of God. Something to think about. Amen.

  726. What song will we sing? What song can we sing?

  727. Can I encourage you with something that I think will help?

  728. Read Psalms. Declare Psalms. Psalms is very good. The cool

  729. thing I like about the Bible is that we might

  730. not have all the methods. Sometimes you listen to preachers,

  731. you hear stories and you get methods. I think the

  732. best method really is to read the Word of God.

  733. Because you don't want to say the Bible got here.

  734. You don't want to pray the Bible has words that

  735. you can just follow. You know, oh, I don't know

  736. how to pray lah, Pastor. Well, the Lord's Prayer is

  737. a very good prayer to start. That's what Jesus taught.

  738. You know, Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.

  739. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as

  740. it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Right?

  741. That's a good prayer to have if you don't really

  742. know how to pray. I don't know how to talk

  743. to God lah. Pray that prayer. Read that prayer. Right?

  744. Then we will understand. Oh, but how do I praise God,

  745. Pastor Alvin? How do I? When I don't feel like it,

  746. how do I? Psalms. Psalms. Psalms is a good book

  747. to read. Oh, but so fake lah. Please lah. You

  748. start reading the Word, you will realise it's not fake lah. Oh,

  749. I tell you, I love the Word because the Logos

  750. Word of God, seemingly written many, many years ago, the

  751. Logos Word of God that we believe has life. How

  752. does it have life? Because as you read the Logos

  753. Word of God, this is the wonderful thing about the

  754. supernatural God that we believe in. As you read the

  755. words of God, the Rema word comes out. You know

  756. what's the Rema word? I think I've taught Ampang before.

  757. The Rema word is God speaking to you.

  758. Huh?

  759. This word that so long ago, you know, I tell you,

  760. there's so many times I just read the word of God.

  761. Just read lah, read lah. Read for the sake of

  762. reading lah. Read the same scripture 10,000 times. And on

  763. the 10,000th time, God speaks. Wow. 10,000 times got revelation. Wow.

  764. And the revelation is specific to my situation today. So friends,

  765. that is the secret. You don't know what to praise?

  766. Read Psalms. You want to learn about relationships? Read Song

  767. of Solomon. No, no, no. Just joking. Please don't read

  768. Song of Solomon. You want to learn about business? You

  769. want to learn about finance? Eh, Bible talks a lot

  770. about finance. No. What to do, what not to do,

  771. how to manage, right? You want to understand your faith

  772. and your authority as a believer? Bible talks about it.

  773. Bible says so much, so much. So if you don't know,

  774. just read the Word. Don't even need to listen to message, right?

  775. I mean, can listen to message, right? Not to say

  776. it cannot, but read lah, read the Bible lah. That's

  777. how you do it. Don't know what to do? Bible

  778. has it. Don't know how to praise? Scripture. Another more

  779. Another way you can do it also is just on

  780. worship music and just sing along lah. I don't know

  781. whether you've seen these reels or not. Nowadays got some

  782. funny Christian reels. I saw one. Getting angry as a Christian.

  783. So funny that one. Right? Some of you might have

  784. seen it already. Right? Person very angry. Right? Go inside

  785. the room, on worship music and start screaming. Lord, you

  786. are so good! I wonder how many of us do that.

  787. Praise the Lord, O my soul. Praise the Lord, O

  788. my soul. I don't know whether you do that. But

  789. do lah, if it helps you. Anger management. Friends, let's

  790. generate praise. Let's not believe in the lie that praise

  791. is just a feeling. Don't put, you know, this is

  792. an encouragement I give Christians nowadays. Don't put laws in

  793. front of you to stop you from doing things. You

  794. all catch that? That's why I think the Bible teaches

  795. us not to make vows, right? Do you know how

  796. to make vows? You make vows by telling yourself what

  797. you can or cannot do. I can only worship if...

  798. Is it really like that? Do we live life like that?

  799. If you do, very dangerous, no. I can only blank

  800. if I do blank. Or if blank happens, I can only...

  801. I mean, yes, some things are practical, right? Like, I

  802. will never be able to join NBA. Okay, so that

  803. one is reality. But there are some things that we

  804. said in our lives that actually is not true, which

  805. we got to stop. Oh, I can only worship if.

  806. Don't do that. Don't do that. I tell you one

  807. of the biggest things I love about at least our

  808. church because of Pastor's pioneering spirit is that we have

  809. a deaf church. How many of you have been to Xbrickfields?

  810. No one yet? You understand? You understand? I will encourage you,

  811. when you got chance, if you got chance, I mean,

  812. I don't know, you have to ask, yeah, go Brickfields.

  813. Because for many years I've heard that, especially if you're

  814. young and all, if you got no band, very hard

  815. to praise. If you got no sound, very hard to praise.

  816. You know the song, when the music fades, all is

  817. stripped away, right? And I simply come, right? Go ask Brickfields,

  818. no music. You only hear this. Then they're doing all

  819. the thing. Every time I go there, I am lost.

  820. And I try to be lost in worship because I

  821. was just free worship. And I kid you not, the

  822. Spirit of God is there when there's no music. And

  823. I feel lost. But it is a choice to praise God.

  824. And I imagine experiencing God. Imagine how God breaks your

  825. mindset to say you must have been to praise God.

  826. Is it easier? Yes. I'm not arguing that it's not easy.

  827. I'm not arguing all these things are bad. No. It

  828. will help us. Definitely. The worship leader, all prepare your heart.

  829. But don't set rules in your life that God didn't

  830. set for you to give Him your best. That is

  831. my encouragement. Because when you set rules in your life,

  832. then you put yourself in a disadvantage. Oh, I tell you,

  833. this truth that I learned recently, because I am so,

  834. always learn through regret, no? Because one of the lessons

  835. I've learned is, you know, there's a thought in what

  836. Pastor Kevin wrote, 21 Thoughts and Truths of Victorious Living.

  837. There's a thought saying, think the thoughts, right? And talk

  838. the talk. Very powerful. Because, and I think he has

  839. a quote that says, If you think you can, and

  840. if you think you cannot, you're right. Huh? Why sound

  841. very funny one? It's true. Because if you think you cannot,

  842. you're right. If you think you can, you're right. So

  843. when you talk about praising God, right, I want to

  844. challenge you in this, right? And I'll end with this thought. Because,

  845. and I'll end this story. Because I, growing up from young,

  846. tell myself that I'm not a sports person. I tell

  847. myself that, I convince myself that, I avoid everything sports.

  848. You can say, ah yeah, your preference, right? No, no,

  849. I really avoid, right? And I remember going for marathon. right?

  850. Joggerthon last time in school, I will run home. I

  851. won't even bother going to the, you know, and the

  852. funny thing is, my mom joined the same marathon and

  853. she won second place. And my dad, you He is

  854. a ping-pong champion. I kid you not. And then I

  855. come back home like, what's this? So my parents are

  856. actually sporty people, I realise now. But I tell myself,

  857. I am not. I am not. I don't. I cannot.

  858. I whatever. Do you know when I started becoming sporty?

  859. I think you all roughly know. When I had to

  860. go for a heart problem thing, and then I started exercising,

  861. then now I'm like a gym bro. Right? Do you

  862. know how interesting my thought process has changed? And how

  863. I ask myself, why did I tell myself for many

  864. years that I'm not a sports person and I cannot

  865. do sports? And I choose not to do sports. Do

  866. you know that I regret that decision? Because if I

  867. told myself or, and not to say I got no friends,

  868. so I got a lot of friends that are into sports.

  869. If I would have not tell myself that lie, that

  870. I'm not a sport person, I wouldn't be in such

  871. a health situation right now that have put myself in

  872. certain disadvantages in certain areas. So now I have to

  873. work hard lah. So let me challenge you with this

  874. thought process. What are you telling yourself that is stopping

  875. you from your breakthrough? Because God is saying otherwise. What

  876. are you telling yourself that is stopping you from experiencing

  877. the fullness of God in your life? Because God is

  878. saying otherwise. That's the last thing I'll leave you. Maybe

  879. an extreme can come up. So friends, back to Paul

  880. and Silas. If you are in a dungeon, Maybe it's

  881. good to ask yourself, what song should I be singing?

  882. What will help me? What will help me to move forward? Amen. Lord,

  883. I need to be closer to you. What do I

  884. need to do? What do I need to tell myself? Lord,

  885. I understand praise, but sometimes I don't feel it. hopefully

  886. today's message will give us another perspective that it's not

  887. a feeling, it's a choice. I think a lot of

  888. people here have made tough choices in life. And the

  889. tough choices in the lives that they make will benefit them.

  890. Ask Ampang, can we be a praise-generating church or not?

  891. And it's not just praise generating, got worship team only pray. No,

  892. praise generating every single person here.

  893. Right?

  894. Can we or not? I believe we can. Yeah, there

  895. are days where it's not easy to do it, but

  896. we try lah. And there are days that will be easy,

  897. then you encourage another person. That's the wonderful thing about church.

  898. We can encourage one another. We can encourage one another

  899. with testimonies. We encourage one another and say, God can

  900. work for me, God can work for you. A lot

  901. of times when I was down, when I'm down in

  902. my life as well, the thing that brings me solace

  903. is another brother's encouragement, another sister's encouragement. You know, it's

  904. the leaders that have gone before and say, if I can,

  905. if they can do it, I can. If this person can,

  906. I can. If I can, you can. You know, it's

  907. possible because we have God on our side.

  908. Amen. For more information on our church, please visit axechurch.org.

  910. that this week is going to be a good week

  911. ahead for you.

  912. God bless.
