What Do You Want To Eat | Jason Martin

You're listening to a message to go from as church. We hope this message

will light up your day. I have been doing my own study because now

that I have to preach, I want to make sure that I am fully

aligned to God, because if not, I don't know, I'll be stopped

down by lightning. But I have to be a good steward of what God

has called me to do. So to ensure alignment, I wanted to see,

Okay, how do I ensure that I am aligned to God? And

I took a page of the Bible, which is how Jesus was constantly aligned

to God. And how did he do that? He prayed every day.

He prayed every day, and that is how he sort of introduced us to

the Lord's prayer. Right, So, the Lord's prayer is our Father in

Heaven, hallowed me our name, That Kingdom come, that will be done

on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us.

Do not bring us to the tests, but deliver us from evil.

For dying is the kingdom and the power and the glory of Yours now and

forever. Okay, so based on that, I will be sharing a sermon

based on one line from that prayer. Okay, So can y'all guess what

line is that? All right? So it is actually give us this day

our daily bread. So do you'll see the title? So the title?

Okay, so this title right of this sermon? It is not for the

faint of hearted, all right. So if you're married, right, and

if your marriage is not strong enough, right, you have to be very

careful to use this question, you know. So what's the title of the

sermon? What do you want to eat? Those of us who are married,

have you asked this question before? Okay? For her husband's right,

I tell you what happened. So every time we go out, then you're

in the car, they're driving, What do you want to eat? What

does your wife say? Anything? Lah? You are anything? Any like?

Okay, So let's go here this one, this one? How about

decent? Also the one? Then what do you want anything? You know?

And then after a while, right, you'll be like, that's why

I say it's not for the faint of hearted one this question? But how

that's why, in line with the Lord's prayer, it is also key that

we ask ourselves daily what do we want to eat right, our daily bread?

Okay, so let let me just give you a few facts first,

okay, next light, all right, how many of you all have tried

one of these diets before? Nobody? God? Right, all right,

there there's some or maybe some diets that are not on the screen. Okay,

So there's so many kinds of diets, all right, But why do

you think people try diets? Why do you want to try diets? Any

thoughts? Lose weight? You want to lose weight, you want to feel

better, you want to feel healthier. If you watch this Netflix documentary,

there's this Netflix documentary called Game Changes. Okay, it's about world class athletes

who are high performance, all right, and they have all now gone plant

based and then they are saying that, oh, this plant based diet is

making allowing me to perform at the highest ability. So we know that diets,

right, is a key factor in our lives. And if you'll recall

Maslow's hierarchy of needs, maybe you have given it back to your university professor.

But the Maslow hierarchy of needs is a triangle and the base of it

is what our basic necessities are. So one of our basic necessity is food,

right, and food is a multibillion dollar industry, right, It's a

multibillion dollar industry. Different companies will constantly try and improve. They will say

why this product is better, that product is better, how it will make

you feel good, it will make you lose weight. So that is constant.

It is a constant push on food, all right. And there is

also this group of people, right, I just want to introduce you to

them. So they are called Abcasian people. So this group of people,

they are actually situated near the Black Sea somewhere Russia in that side. Uh.

And what is why this group of people are interesting, right, It

is because they have the highest concentration of centenarians. So you know what are

centenarians people who live above the age of one hundred. So they have the

high one of the highest concentration of centenarians. So they did a bit of

research why. And this group of people they eat whatever they plant. They

eat whatever they plant. They because they live in mountainous areas, they are

very active lifestyle. They don't eat processed food and stuff like that. And

because of that, they are actually living longer, healthier and they have a

better quality of life. So without a doubt. We know that food is

important. Right, So how does this tie into the Lord's prayer? Then?

How does this tie into the Lord's prayer? Because we probably know the

Lord's prayer. If you have been for Axe kids, or you've been to

Sunday school, you know the Lord's prayer. And we have constantly said,

give us this day our daily bread. Right, So this is the Lord's

prayer when you said to them, when you pray, say our Father in

heaven, Hello be their name, your kingdom. Come, Your will be

done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us day by day our

daily bread. So this part of the verse, right, we are very

common because we say that a I have a need, I constantly ask God

to feel that need. All right? So today I will ask us three

different questions in regards to this, all right. And the first question is

why do we need to ask God for our daily bread? Why do we

need to ask God for our daily breaate? Okay, let me ask you

a different another question, different angle. If you do not ask God for

your daily bread, who are you asking it from? You know, because

we have Jesus also prayed give us this day our daily breate so can you

imagine Jesus was called day by day asking God to supply his needs. Are

we doing that? Because if Jesus, who is fully God and fully man

at that time, also head needs and he asked God for it, then

it is something that we need to learn as well. Right, So if

we are not asking God, then who are we asking? Okay, if

I go to the next slide, All right, So Matthew seven, ask

and it will be given to you. Seek and you will find. Knock

and the door will be open to you. For everyone who ask receives.

The one who seeks finds, and to one who knocks the door will be

opened. Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give

him a stone, or if you ask for a fish, will give him

a snake. If you, then, though you are evil, know how

to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your father in

heaven give good gifts to those who ask him? So it is very clear

in this scripture it says that ask. It is not if you ask,

is when you ask it is a promise for everyone who asks. All you

have to do is ask. But the struggle is we don't ask. Why

don't we ask? It's because probably we want to depend on our own strength.

We want to depend on our bank accounts, want to depend on our

contacts, you know, and then suddenly God is secondary. Right, So

I give you another example. Right, So I got two boys, Geroman

Jude. So in the morning, when they wake up, okay, say

for example, where they had a good, nice sleep, they wake up

and then they wake up hungry. So they wake up hungry, they rush

down, they said, our father in quota communing, what is for breakfast?

Okay, I'm paraphrasing, but that's why they will ask Daddy, I'm

hungry, what what? What is there to eat? They will immediately come

to me or come to Jess because they know that we are their parents and

we have the best intentions for them. We will provide what is good.

We will fulfill that they are desires, their needs, and that's why they

will ask us. You don't see them asking any strangers when they are hungry.

They won't go ask a stranger. In fact, we say, don't

take candy from strangers. Right, But we as adults, we do it

sometimes our needs We're gonna ask everyone else except God to fill our needs.

But you know, the starting of the Lord's prayer is our father in heaven?

Hello would be their name? And in another sermon, I shad about

who this father is. He is a good God, he is our father,

and he wants to supply our needs. So this scripture right, he

says, which of you, if your son asks for bread, will you

give him a stone? None of the parents here will do that, right?

Or if he asked for a fish, will you give him a snake?

If you then know? If you then do you are evil? Know

how to give good gifts to your children? How much more will your father

in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him? If we know how

to give good gifts to our kids, why don't we ask for our daily

bread from our father? You know? Why we don't Probably is because we

don't believe he's good, or we don't recognize him as our father, or

we do not have a personal relationship with him, you know. But this

is where we need to ask ourselves and say that, hey, God,

I need you to supply all my needs according to your riches in glory,

right, Okay? And so sometimes we rely on our experience rather than have

a fresh encounter. So think about it. If you are very experienced.

Right, and then you say that, hey, I know how to do

it. I've done it before, No need to ask God. Right,

So you depend on your experience instead of a fresh encounter. Right. And

sometimes God becomes our last resort instead of the only resort when all else fails.

Pray. Why why do you want to wait until all else fail?

Then only pray? Why don't you pray then things won't fail? Why not?

Right? So if I go to the next scripture, So this is

a story from the Bible of a group of people who had daily bread.

So this is the Israelites. Let me read it out. The whole Israelite

community sat out from Elim and came to the desert of sin which is between

Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month, after they

had come out of Egypt. In the desert, the whole community grumbled against

Moses and Aaron. The Israelites said to them, if only we had died

by the Lord's hand in Egypt, there we sat around pots of meat and

ate all the food we wanted. But you have brought us out into this

desert to stave this entire assembly to that. Okay, well, posse of

us. Right. So the Israelites, right, you all know that they

came out from Egypt. Do you remember them ever sitting around pots of meat?

In Egypt? They were slaves, they were whipped, they were they

were tortured. They took away the straw from them. They couldn't make bricks.

So I think the Israelites were exaggerating, definitely right. And think of

it this way. God had done ten the ten plagues to get the people

out of Egypt. Do you think all he wanted to do to get down

get them out of Egypt is for them to die in the wilderness. No.

God is not a half past six God. God is God of all

the way. So the Israelites right did not recognize who God was because they

keep on complaining. All right, next scripture, then the Lord said to

Moses, I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are

to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way,

I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions. On

the sixth day, they are to prepare what they bring in, and that

is to be twice as much as they gather on the other days. So

you think about this, Right, you are in the wilderness, So why

the wilderness. The wilderness means you've got no access to grab you've got no

accepts to food, pender, You've got no restaurants, you got nothing.

You got sandler okay, sandwich, that's lame joke, but yeah, so

you got no food nothing. The only way for them to survive is to

depend on God. God became their only resort. And this is no small

jokera. As you calculate, right, how much she spent a day on

them? How much you spent per meal? Say twenty boxler tin hearing it?

Okay, the israel Lights had breakfast and dinner, I mean manna in

the morning, dinner, quail and night. Of course they may have aiden

it for lunch as well. Okay, So three meals provided four seven days

a week, three hundred and sixty five days a year, forty years.

How much money? Can you say? A lot? Yeah? I don't

account it's a lot. Okay, But you see, that is who God

is. He supplied all their needs for forty years, and that's who he

is. So why do we need to ask God for our daily bread?

Because he is a good God. He knows what we need and he will

supply our needs. Right, So let me just read you a story.

So there's this a guy called George Muller. Have you all heard about him?

He I think from the eighteenth century. So he was an evangelist and

he also ran aphanages. So right, let me just read it out here.

The children addressed and ready for school, but there is no food for

them to eat. The house mother of the orphanage informed George. So,

I said, George Muller ran an aphanage, right, So George asked her

to take the three hundred children into the dining room and half them sit at

the tables. He thanked God for the food and waited. George knew God

would provide food for the children, as he always did. Within minutes,

a baker knocked on the door. Mister Muller, he said, last night

I could not sleep. Somehow I knew that you would need bread. This

morning, I got up and baked three batches for you. I will bring

it in soon. There was another knock at the door. It was the

milkman. His cart had broken down right in front of the orphanage. The

milk would spoil by the time the wheel was fixed. He ask George if

he could use some free milk. George smiled as the milkman brought in ten

large cans of milk. It was just enough for the three hundred thirsty children.

If God can do it for George Muller and the three hundred kids in

the Aphanage, he can do it for you. He can do it for

me. All we have to do is ask. All we have to do

is ask. So why do we need to ask? Because God will supply

it? All right? So there's the first point, first question. Okay,

next, so now we know we haven't established why we need to ask?

Right? Second one, what do we need to eat? What do

we need to eat? Do we need to eat PiZZ vegetarian? What?

Right? So let me go into the next verse. So this is John

six. Okay. Then they asked him what must we do to the works

to do the works God requires? Jesus answered, the work of God is

this to believe in the one he has sent. So they asked him,

what signed, then will you give that we may see it and believe you?

What will you do? Our ancestors ate the manner in the wilderness as

it is written. He gave them bread, from heaven to eat. Okay,

so let's pause here, right, a bit of context. This was

one day after Jesus fed the five thousand. Okay, so hungry people they

were fed. They were following Jesus, right, This was the next day.

And then they are asking, what must we do to do the works

God requires? The work of God? Is this to believe in the one

he has sent? So they're asking. Jesus told him, it's very clear,

you must believe in the one who is sent. So they asked him,

what signed then will you give that we may see it and believe you.

So they still didn't believe that Jesus was from God, you know,

although Jesus provided them fed their stomach five thousand men, not counting women and

children. Okay, So they still didn't believe. And they said, out

ancest us, ancest us, ancestors ate the manner. So the ancestors ate

the manner. Okay. But I want to ask you a different question.

If the ancestors ate the manner and they knew God provided for their need,

why didn't they enter the Promised Land? Why didn't they enter the Promised Land?

It's because the Israelites were seeking for the gift instead of the giver.

They were looking for manner and quail, but they were not looking for the

God who supplied the manner and quail. That's why they were continuously complaining.

You know. So even these people, they say, ay, our ancestors,

ancestors ate manna, So what are you going to show us? They

needed somehow proof, and they needed proof. Show me what's the need for

me? I want something? So they were focusing on the gift. Okay,

next light, Jesus said to them, very truly, I tell you,

it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but

it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the

Bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to

the world. Sir, They said, always give us this bread. Then

Jesus declared, I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will

never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. So

what are you supposed to eat? It's supposed to eat Jesus. Here you

think it sounds but John six sixty six, which came versus. After this,

people left Jesus because he said, you have to eat my flesh and

drink my blood. And that's why sometimes, right, we get confused.

What does that mean? Okay, what does that mean? So I was

also looking into it. So you think about it. Right, When you

ask God for your daily bread and Jesus says he's the bread of life,

it means you need to consume Jesus daily. What happens to food when you

consume it, you digest, it goes in, it digests, it repairs

yourselves, repairs improves your muscles and stuff that it becomes a part of you.

The more you consume Jesus, the more Jesus beca part of you.

If you are not consuming Jesus, and if you are consuming things of the

world, you will become more of the world. So why do we need

Jesus as our daily bread? Because we want, all of us want to

be more like Jesus. Right, So let me just give me a s

Okay, if I go to the next verse. All right, So this

is Romans twelve. Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view

of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and

pleasing to God. This is your true and proper worship. Do not conform

to the pattern of this world. Let be transformed by the renewing of your

mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is,

his good, pleasing and perfect will. So how does this tie in?

Right? When we are hungry, even in the natural world, Right,

you want something, you go instant gratification, You go and buy it,

You swipe your card. Why is the debt ratio so high? It's

because you are fulfilling that your desires according to your capabilities, and sometimes you

don't even have the capabilities. That's why you are in debt. But when

we have those desires, we need to be filling it with God. And

how that's why we need God to transform us. It is very natural for

us to you want something, you just take it, same liard like kids,

right, Kids, they see something someone God immediately grab because that's our

selfish desire. But what we need is God to transform us and say that

God, I have this desire, Please help me meet this need. And

God will meet your need according to his will. You know then that is

how it will be good, pleasing and perfect will. Okay, all right,

next night, all right? So we know this verse taste and see

that the Lord is good? Right, So I want to ask you a

question. Can a person who has not accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Lord

and savior taste and see that the Lord is good? What do you think?

The answer is yes, because a lot of the miracles that happened in

the Bible happened before. Happened to people before they believed in Jesus. After

they saw the miracles, they immediately followed Jesus. Same happened as the disciples.

They dropped their nets and followed Jesus. Same as the blind man he

U, and then the even the one at the beautiful Gate, you know

where Peter and Either and John went to pray and he healed him. After

he healed, he went leaping and praising God. So even if you're not

yet a Christian, you can still taste and see that the Lord is good.

So, but the problem is for earth that are Christians, we are

still only tasting. We have tasted so many times and know that God is

good. How many of you all have had testimonies before? All of you

all have had testimonies before, But we just want to, Okay, like

God, I test you a bit test, test, you know, when

it suits me, I will test. But we are not consuming Jesus as

our daily bread. Only when we consume Jesus as our daily bread, we

become more like Jesus. So when you go for wine tasting, right,

say wine tasting, people go wine taste, right, they just testing me.

But you don't have the effects of the wine. Okay, I'm not

asking you get drunk, but I'm just getting an example, you know.

Or you go for a wedding food tasting. You go wedding food tasting,

right, It's for you to test the food on it. It's not for

you to be fool. Yeah, sometimes you ask them to bring second place.

I think I didn't feel I need to test again, right, But

we need to go beyond tasting, and we need to go to a point

of consuming Jesus as our daily bread, asking God to supply our needs daily.

Right, Okay? And hunger is real. How many of you all

believe hunger is real? How many of you are hungry? Now? Hunger

is real, Desire and appetites are real. All of this are given by

God. Right, So it is not wrong to be hungry, right,

all right? And if I go to the next verse, next light.

Yeah, so when you have that hunger, what do you need to do?

Matthew siks. Therefore, I tell you do not worry about your life,

what you will eat or drink, or about your body what you will

wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothes.

But seek first His kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be

given to you. That's why we need to seek God daily. Seek the

Kingdom of God and all his righteousness. Seek the Giver. Don't seek the

gifts. You seek the gifts. It is just contained to that one gift.

You seek the giver. The It is endless what God can do for

us, and that's why we need to seek God. Okay, next life,

So this is the last question. First question is why do we need

to see God? Right? Second question is what do we need to eat?

Okay? Third question, so what happens if we eat junk food?

Okay? So Desona, I'm not saying anyone that. Okay for me years

old, I'm uh, what's this? I also love to eat. I

like, yeah, I like to snack, like chocolates, ice cream,

those kind of things. So like, just now, when past the general

saying I like marathons, or try to answer, I don't like them.

Lah, Okay, I only do them rah because right, you know,

I will put on weight, so nobody likes one. You do it because

you have to laugh, you know, like some people. Right, you

eat bananaly every day, so you're so tin But I think like for me,

I think I breathe. Also I put on with so so I do

watch what I eat. So what happens when you eat junk food? Okay?

So next light? Okay, So this is Matthew four. Okay.

Then Jesus was led by the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the

devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The

templer came to him and said, if you are the son of God,

tell these stones to become bread. Jesus answered, it is written, man

shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the

mouth of God. Okay, I want to draw us to two things from

this verse. First of all, Jesus was hungry. So Jesus was fully

man, it's fully gone. But he also was hungry. So hunger,

the desire, the appetite, it comes from God. It's not wrong.

Only tell you that it's not wrong. Okay, that's the first part.

The second thing is, you see this the devil told, the tempter told

Jesus, tell these stones to become bread. So last time when I was

reading this, right, I was like, okay, what nothing wrong with

this? You've got the power, can then do bread? Okay? What

what's wrong? Then Jesus replied like this. I was like, what does

Jesus mean? You know again, there is nothing wrong with the bread.

The sauce of the bread is the problem. There is nothing wrong with the

bread, the sauce of the bread. If you are getting your sauce of

bread from the devil instead of God, what are you filling yourself with?

So that's why Jesus said, it is written, men shall not live on

bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.

When he puts his trust in God, when he seeks God and all his

righteousness, and all these things will be given unto you. Don't seek the

gift, don't look for instant gratification. Seek God to provide, and He

will supply all your needs. Right, Okay, and you know that junk

food, right, it will fill you up. But usually it will make

you feeling worse. It will make you feel worse off. Right, so

you feel, oh, I feel great when you're eating it, great lave.

After that, man, I shouldn't eating that cake then next day.

Now mine diet starts tomorrow. You know those kinds of things. So you

regret it, you know it, but you still do it. You are

feeding yourself and you're living in regret in terms of that. So um like

well I mentioned, appetite and desire is not wrong. It comes from God.

And for example, you have a desire to like for example, tent

he had a desire to be creative right songs sing. There's nothing wrong with

that desire. How he used that desire, he filled it, used it

to glorify God. But sometimes if you use if you fill that desire with

the things of the world or flesh, then how you manifest it will be

different. Okay, next light, So let us behave decently as in the

time, not in carusing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality, morality and

debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather clothe yourself with the Lord Jesus

Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.

So when you clothe yourself with Jesus, when you consume him, he

will fill your desires because if not, you will your flesh. Well,

constant is a constant battle. You're trying to feel that desire with your flesh.

Right, Okay, next one. So this slide looks very noisy,

but I wanted to say again, desires. The box in the middle is

not wrong. All of us have desires. All of us have desires.

You have a desire for intimate See, everyone wants to feel connected, everyone

wants to feel belong You have a desire. You have desire, you know

in terms of that. You have a desire for justice. You have a

desire for security. You have hunger and terset, you have creativity, you

have sleep. So all these desires, all of us have these desires.

What are we filling these desires with? If we are filling these desires with

the thing of the flesh. You want intimacy and you feel it with the

thing of the flesh, what happens last where you hurt other people and you

hurt yourself to fulfill a short term desire, And that's what it is.

It's junk food, any of this thing right? You see, for example,

justice you want justice. Justice is not your desire justice. But when

you take say that a it's my right, I want to go and fight,

and then you get so angry and like gonna whack everyone. It turns

to wrath instead for justice, we should seek peace, you know, like,

uh, Batman, how many of you all watch Batman? Batman?

Bat Man loves justice? Was justice right, but he's like full of anger.

His way of getting justice is by wrath, you know. But that

is if you succumbed to the flesh, that is how it will manifest.

But if we fill ourselves with the fruit of the spirit, love, joy,

peace, patience, kindness, goodness, self control, then we will

become more and more like Jesus, and our desires will be met and you

will become. You will become the person that God wants you to become.

You will grow, you will walk in the plants and purposes that God has

for you. If you eat junk food, your health will deteriorate, you

will it will impact the people around you, and you will probably lose your

best life in terms of that. Okay, so next line, so do

you know every thirty five day, your skin replaces itself. Your liver about

a month, your body makes these new cells from the food you eat.

What you eat literally becomes you. So what are you eating daily? What

are you eating daily? When you say give us this day our daily bread?

Are you consuming? Say Jesus, I want to become more like you.

Because the more you consume Jesus, the more you invite Jesus into your

life, the more he transforms you, the more you become like him.

But if not, you'll become more like the world or more like whoever else

you get your sauce from. Right next light, you are what you eat.

You are what you eat. I just want to say that we have

said this prayer, give us this day our daily bread. What are we

eating? Who are we asking it from? How are we feeling this desires?

I just want to close us with this story that right there was this

Cherokee Indians. You know in America they have the Aboriginal tribes. So there's

this group of Cherokee Indians and this old Cherokee Indian chief was teaching his grandson

about life. He said, a fight is going on inside of me.

He told the young boy, A fight between two wolves. The dark one

is evil, he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed,

arrogant self, pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, and so

much more. The light wolf is good, He is joy, peace,

love, hope, serenity, humility, highness, and so forth. The

same fight is going on inside you, grandson, and inside of every other

person on the face of the earth. So the grandson ponders this for a

moment. Then he asked grandfather which wolf will win? Will the dark wolf

wind or the light wolf Wind? And the grandfather smiled and replied, simply,

the wolf that wins is the wolf that you feed. So which one

are you feeding? Are you constantly seeking God to fulfill your needs? Or

are you fulfilling your needs on your own strength, through the flesh, or

from the things of this war? Since then you have been raised with Christ,

set your hearts on things abirth, where Christ is seated at the right

hand of God. Set your minds on things abirth and not on earthly things.

For you died and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.

When Christ, who is your life, appears, and then you will also

appear with Him in glory. Put to death Therefore, whatever belongs to your

earthly nature, sexual immorality, impurity, last evil desires and greed, which

is idolatry man. All of us have needs, all of us have desires.

Let's seek God for our daily bread because we know he is a good

God. He will supply all our needs according to his riches in glory,
