You're listening to a message to go from ass Church. We hope this message
-
will light up your day. The topic of my message is Heaven rules our
-
conduct. We're still in the team of Heaven Rules. Yeah, so Heaven
-
rules our conduct. And my main scripture is taken from the Lord's prayer.
-
I'm going to be preaching from the Lord's prayer. We're going to dive a
-
little bit deeper and understand it a little bit more. Forgiveness has always been
-
something that's very very Yeah, it's something dear to me because I fully understand
-
my faith when I understood forgiveness. You know, I always share that my
-
dad was someone who found it really hard to forgive people. And I live
-
with him for many years and there was always someone that has grieved him that
-
he would never be able to let go. And I still remember the last
-
few months of his life before he passed on. He was diagnosed with cancer
-
and I had the best final few months with my dad because I was able
-
to sit down area and just tell him that that you need to let go
-
of some of these things that you have been hanging on to for not just
-
months, no, I'm talking about years. No, there are years when
-
sometimes I can see, you know, I've not seen a family member,
-
say for twenty years, thirty years, and I know I'm all enough at
-
that point to realize that, Okay, it's because no, my dad just
-
had something that he couldn't let go, and he couldn't forgive, and he
-
couldn't forget. And I remember just having many conversations with him in the hospital,
-
just talking, and no, I believe at the end of it,
-
I trust that he released, because it was when he finally released, then
-
a lot took him back home after he was water baptized in the bed,
-
and a few days later he went back to be with the Lord. And
-
I'm always eternally grateful that towards the end he found his faith, he found
-
who God is, and he was able to just let go of all the
-
different things that he was hanging on to for dear life. For whatever reason,
-
all of us have our reasons why sometimes it's hard to forgive. And
-
I will never stand here and undermine the different things that you have gone through.
-
Never will I undermine the different hurts that you have experienced. But I
-
want to teach from God's wood, and I pray that as I teach you
-
understand where I'm coming from. Okay, So, okay, let's do this
-
the Lord's Prayer. Of course, all of us can recite it by hard
-
most of us can recide by heart. In it's taken from Matthew Chapter six
-
Versus. I'm going to be emphasizing on Versus twelve to fifteen, and he
-
says this, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtusts,
-
and do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one,
-
for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
-
And then verse fourteen it goes on to say this, for if you
-
forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if
-
you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your tress
-
passes. Okay, so we call this the Lord's prayer. All of your
-
are familiar with the Lord's prayer, But actually is a prayer that the Lord
-
never really need to use himself, as he ever occurred to you. I
-
mean, he can't really use it for himself, especially the request that says,
-
forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Well, maybe
-
Jesus could have used the second half of the phrase, because we read and
-
we know that as people. You know, was spit thing on him,
-
laughing at him, and eventually drove nails into his hands and risks. He
-
actually did say, Father, forgive them, though they know not what they
-
do. However, he could not have said the first part of the petition
-
because I think all of us as believers will unanimously agree that Jesus was with
-
doubt sin so I mean, really forgive us ours. He didn't need to
-
request for forgiveness in that in that sense, no, So I just want
-
us to just have some things in perspective. But for earth, No,
-
we will realize this is the closer we leave to the Lord Jesus, the
-
more we feel that we must say every day, forgive us our debts.
-
If you really walk closely, we really need to say this all the time,
-
because if Heaven really rules in our lives, then it is imperative that
-
Harold Heaven must rule our conduct and how we carry ourselves, especially when it
-
comes to our relationship with God. And I will explain it. I'll explain
-
it as we go along, because it tells me a number of things.
-
When we read through the Lord's Prayer, a few things about prayer, and
-
you realize about this, No, true prayer must always include the word forgive
-
as well as the word give. I mean, if you analyze any of
-
our prayers, most of the time that you will find the word give existing
-
more than the word forgive, because we will always be give me this day
-
of deliberate give me health, give me wealth, give me comfort, give
-
me money, give me peace, give me joy. Is to give me,
-
give me, give me. I mean, we're all humans, it's
-
natural, but a good prayer will always go on from give to forgive.
-
And this tells us also that we are to bring to God the needs of
-
our soul as well as the needs of our body. That means, after
-
having ask for my body, give me this day our daily bread, we
-
must always go on to ask God to forgive us. Forgive me. This
-
is something that's good for our soul. Is extremely important. And he tells
-
me also that we must constantly remember this that what I desire and what I
-
deserve are two opposite things. Okay, stay with Mia. I will explain
-
what I desire and what I deserve are two opposite things. Okay, we
-
are all seen us and when we say to God, give me, we
-
must immediately remind ourselves that we do not deserve to be given anything. That's
-
something that Pastor Daniel mentioned just now. No, we don't deserve to demand
-
for anything. And this is why when we say give, because of how
-
undeserving of us to receive anything from God, we must straight away say forgive.
-
After that, I think it's important in terms of the sequence. Let's
-
look at it from another perspective. Which is more important our obligation to God
-
as our heavenly father, or should it just be focused on his obligation to
-
us? Ever thought about that? Because if God is my heavenly father,
-
he has an obligation to feed me, to clothe me, to shelter me.
-
That is what I need not worry about what I eat, what I
-
dream, what I put on, because God is under an obligation and he
-
is as a father. God has claimed me and adopted me as his son.
-
So it is how it is basically now his obligation to feed and to
-
clothe his children, and we can claim that. That's why when we identify
-
as children of God, we can actually claim God you have undertaken this obligation
-
to care for me. But if I only think of his obligation to me
-
as my father and totally ignore mind to him, then basically the Lord's prayer
-
becomes a very one sided prayer, as they ever occurred to you, it
-
becomes a very one sided prayer. So the question is what is our obligation
-
to God? Well, our obligation to him is to live a holy life
-
because he is holy, and to live a perfect life because He is perfect.
-
And this is why we need to say forgive, because we can't possibly
-
do this by ourselves. We can't possibly live a holy life, neither can
-
we possibly live a perfect life by ourselves. So let's understand the prayer that
-
Jesus taught his disciples, especially the petition with a condition attached to it.
-
And many people have difficulties over this condition because it says, forgive us our
-
debts, as we forgive our debts. Okay, have that in mind.
-
Have that in mind, and let's start with the first part. Okay,
-
everyone's still in me. The first part is this forgive us, forgive us.
-
So the phrase forgive us in itself presents some difficulty to Christians. Because
-
some think it is bad for Christians to pray forgive us our sins. They
-
feel that it's somehow breeds the feeling of being inferior, or it breeds a
-
very guilty complex within us that will cause us to sort of start digging around
-
our own souls for our sins and then leads to causing them to doubt their
-
faith. So some people think that that why must always forgive us as for
-
forgiveness, no like as do I did something wrong. But what they want
-
in state is to get them away from any sense of guilt and into joy
-
and peace and never think of sin and only things of salvation. That's how
-
some will perceive it. Then, on the other hand, you have another
-
group, because some Christians who think that they do not need to pray the
-
Lord's prayer because when they came to Christ, all their sins were forgiven reday
-
gout him, past, present, future, everything done, everything washed,
-
everything glorious wherever they are. They were finished with sin, and they live
-
gloriously all their lives in the Lord. So you get two secks. So
-
why do we think Jesus gave us the Lord's prayer? Have you ever wanted?
-
What do you think he taught us the Lord's prayer. So let me
-
begin by saying that I think the Lord's prayer was given to the disciples,
-
not think. Actually, I know that it was given to the disciples to
-
follow Christ. It is a guide to show our dependence on God. Remember
-
the sir, he didn't give it to the crowds, No, because he
-
called his disciples to him. You read Matthew chapter six. He called the
-
disciples to him, and they say, Lord, teach us to pray,
-
and he was basically telling them how to do it. Basically, this is
-
the Lord teaching his followers how to do it. So he didn't give it
-
to the crowd. So I think it that he taught the Lord's prayer to
-
those of us who are following him as disciples. Basically, it's a prayer
-
of how we should conduct ourselves towards God and how we should conduct ourselves towards
-
one another. Am I still making sense? Okay? And then there are
-
those two extremes that we must be careful to avoid, as I just highlighted
-
just now. One is the idea that there will never be any more need
-
for confession or forgiveness in a Christian's life. Sometimes we think, oh,
-
we're safe, hal Lujah, praised the Lord. That one moment in time
-
at a rally, I raise my hands and then everything I have an extremely
-
clean slate that can never be tainted ever. Again, I think this is
-
something that's extreme, and I don't really find it in scripture, because if
-
we read one John and we know the apostle, John actually writes, if
-
we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins
-
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. And if any one of us actually
-
say that we got no sin, John actually says that you're a liar.
-
So let us let us bear that in mind. It is extreme to say
-
that once you become a believer, your sins, all your sins, are
-
completely forgiven. That means no need for confession, no need for seeking forgiveness
-
from the Lord anymore. I think that's one extreme that we got to be
-
careful not to go down that path. Then the other extreme is this some
-
believers seem to be in and out of salvation between today Sunday and then the
-
following Sunday. What do I mean by day is okay? You can come
-
to church on Sunday and you know, okay, the preachers teaching and preaching,
-
I'm sure of my salvation. Then comes Monday and you did something wrong
-
on my day, Alama Nestarily you feel I feel so unworthy, I feel
-
like I can't be a Christian today. And then comes back to Sunday again,
-
and then you are like, yeah, I feel I feel good.
-
I feel I'm speaking for myself. There are days when sometimes I feel like
-
that, you know, but there's no assurance. It's an in and out
-
kind of belief system, almost as though they really can't identify themselves as children
-
of God, and there's no assurance. Well, these are the two extremes,
-
neither of which I believe is biblical, because on the one hand,
-
there are those who say I'm finished with sins altogether since I became a Christian,
-
I don't need to keep coming back as a miserable sinner. That's one
-
extreme. The other one is there are those who say, I never know
-
whether I'm a Christian or not because I've seen yesterday and that undid all the
-
good work, and then now I have got to start all over again.
-
So there's that uncertainty, and I believe none I believe neither of this is
-
the biblical position. Let me take you now to the feast of the Past
-
over before Jesus instituted the Lord's Supper. Okay, I'm going to teach,
-
and we're gonna go a little bit deeper where he would eventually be betrayed.
-
I'm actually drawing out from a portion of scripture from John chapter thirteen. You
-
can read the whole account Versus one to thirty eight. You can also see
-
some of the accounts in Matthew, Mark, and Luke. This is something
-
that is in all the Gospels, but specifically in John chapter thirteen one to
-
thirday eight. And I hope that this helps us to understand a little bit
-
better. You see John chapter thirteen one to today eight. That is the
-
account where right before the feast of the Past of Word, the disciples came
-
to the place, and then Jesus took a towel and Jesus stold Peter,
-
Peter, I want to wash your feet. Okay, remember the feet washing
-
part of it. And then Peter at first, what they what do they
-
do? He tried to refuse, and Jesus says, if I don't wash
-
you, we can't be friends. Let's you read the scripture and you realize
-
that's what Jesus is saying. If I don't wash you, we can be
-
friends. He literally said, you can have no part with me, which
-
means that Jesus is saying we can have no fellowship if I don't wash you.
-
So then Peter Song the other way straight away, he said a lot,
-
washed me all over, washed me all over. And then Jesus gently
-
told him that he didn't need washing all over now since he had already been
-
washed. But there was dirt that he picked up on his feet. Remember
-
this note. In the Middle East they walked with sandals. They walk everywhere,
-
and when you go to a person's house, you usually wash only that
-
part of your feet, which is the dirtiest part, and Jesus wanted to
-
clean dead part to keep the fellowship between them. I believe Jesus was saying
-
something clearly about forgiveness here, because I understand this. A Christian who has
-
been born again and comes to Christ and has been washed all over, and
-
we know what that is. That symbol is baptism, something that we just
-
celebrated this morning. Washing from hate to toll. They have been washed clean
-
they are clean through the world of God. Amen. But as they walk
-
through life, and all of us, those who have been baptized before you
-
will still live life. You will still walk through life. You will still
-
make mistakes, you will still pick up dead on your feet. You will
-
need a daily washing. And Jesus is saying, I want to wash your
-
feet. Let me do that. If I don't wash your feet, we
-
can't be friends, we can't have fellowship. That is essentially what Jesus is
-
saying. In other words, I believe Scripture teaches us that if a Christian
-
sins and Christians do sin, I don't know, Like I said, one
-
joint really wants any of your say you don't see, then then you're a
-
liar. But if a Christian sins and doesn't get forgiven, they stend to
-
lose their fellowship with the Lord. They lose their joy in prayer, their
-
life of worship, they lose their desire to share Christ with other people.
-
It is this that Jesus was bordered about, and it is this that the
-
Lord's prayer is all about. He's saying, it's a daily cleansing to keep
-
your fellowship with the Lord. Peel and sweet and clean to allow Heaven to
-
rule our conduct. Does that make sense now? Okay, stay with me.
-
We must now take not of some of the words that the New Testament
-
uses for sin. Okay, then we get a better idea and a better
-
context of the Lord's prayer. There are quite a few words that that is
-
translated to. In the English word is just sin, okay, But in
-
the Greek there are quite a lot of words. One of it is anomia,
-
which means sheer lawlessness. Basically, someone who doesn't recognize any rules for
-
life, does whatever he or she wants. Okay. The second word is
-
parabasis, which means to step over, which means to trest past. That's
-
how you get the translation tresspass or to step over a line. So think
-
of a fans and then you go past it. Technically you have trest passed.
-
Now, it's actually worth highlighting that both these words were not the words
-
that were used in the Lord's prayer forgive us ours that sin. These are
-
not the words that were use. There's a third word. It's called harmasha,
-
which in archery, when you should Basically it just means that you miss
-
the mark. Okay, So when you miss the mark we always say that's
-
sin uh, and that word is you know, use and translated as sin
-
as well. And then there's the fourth word is called paraphtoma, which means
-
to fall on an icy road, to sleep when you did not intend to
-
sleep, accidentally do something that you had no intention of doing. Okay,
-
there was a sounder words. And then there's the fifth and the last word,
-
which is what I want to focus on and emphasize on, because it
-
is this that we find or this word that we find in Matthews six is
-
the term or feel lema and it means your debts who Okay, I don't
-
know what it's saying, continues to help my brother, how much you all
-
person? Okay, your debt's what you owe. It is this word that
-
we actually use in the Lord's Prayer, which is, again I remember,
-
a prayer for believers. Okay, So the word that is actually a clearer
-
translation because it is not so much trespassing that we are talking about. Some
-
versions of the Bible translate the Lord's prayer forgive us our trespasses, but actually
-
the more accurate term is forgive us our debts. No, because it's basically
-
falling short of our target and owing God something or basically not having done something
-
that we should have done. That's why you owe. You should have done
-
something, you didn't do it you owe. And actually this forgiveness is for
-
what we call sometimes the sins of omission. I ever heard of that the
-
sins of the things that you did not do, not so much the sins
-
of permission, where I'm actually literally trespassing or going against a person. So
-
let me try to explain, Isa. Have we ever felt like you have
-
left undone some things which you ought to have done. Ever had a feeling
-
that end of the day I should have done something? No, it's I
-
don't know whether there any Christian would say I get to the end of every
-
day and I have done every single thing that I'm supposed to do. In
-
fact, I'm very sure many of us get to the end of the day
-
what did I do? Working is always like what in the world did I
-
do? I really believe that when anyone walks closely with Jesus, the more
-
you think of the things that you should have said, the messages that you
-
should have said, the way that you should have conducted yourself. Know the
-
fact that maybe you should have visited someone instead of sitting now at home and
-
watching YouTube. Then you will realize, actually, there are quite a lot
-
of things that I may not have done. So the more you look at
-
your life, the more you realize the things that you did not do that
-
you should have done. You did not say a kind word. Albert forgot
-
to take the trash out yesterday. He did not do something you did not
-
know. The Lord's prayer is not so much concerned with the bad things that
-
you did, but the emphasis is more on the good things that you did
-
not do. This show gives it a different perspective. Right, They start
-
to make a bit more sense, And this is important because it can spoil
-
your friendship with God. God wanted you to do that thing. God wanted
-
you to say a kind word to someone. God wanted you to witness to
-
your friend. God wanted you to go and cheer that person up. He
-
wanted you to go and tell someone about Christ. And we didn't do it.
-
And we actually owe him that. That is what the death means,
-
and Jesus is essentially reminding us to get our deaths paid. Now we are
-
to do that every day with God. Get the account straight with God so
-
that we can go to Bait straight and write with him. I prayed the
-
Lord's prayer every day. Sometimes it's almost like a routine, but it's more
-
than a routine for me, because I pray that all of us understand.
-
Let's let's go even deeper. Okay, let's take it a little bit deeper,
-
and I hope he gives you a bit more clarity. Jesus once told
-
a parable in Luke chapter seventeen Versus seven to ten about a servant. And
-
I'm sure you'll remember this who was plowing a field and minding the ship.
-
And then he came in and he was going to sit down, though he
-
was going to the servant work all day longer going to sit down, And
-
then right before that, his master said, bring my meal first. So
-
the servant had to go on and bring the meal. And of course most
-
of us might say, wh why so unreasonably demanding? When this master the
-
servant work hard all day, Now you make him go and get your meal
-
as well? But I think not that. Jesus went on to say in
-
that scripture that parable, do you think that servants should be thanked for doing
-
that extra thing for his master? He was asking a question and of course
-
the answer is no, because when he has done all he is commanded,
-
he has only done his duty. Does that make sense? When you've done
-
all you have commanded, you have only done your duty. In the same
-
way when you obey Jesus, you should say, we are still unprofitable servants
-
who have simply done our duty. You think because you obey God, he
-
owes you something. No, we have only just done our duty out of
-
obedience. And I want to highlight the word unprofitable because when we have done
-
our best for God and we get to the end of the day still in
-
debt to God for what we haven't done, we are still unprofitable. We
-
simply can never outgive God. That is something that we need to understand because
-
He has still done and more for us than he ever got back from us.
-
And therefore we are still in that we have still fallen shot. And
-
this is why we need to pray to God for forgiveness every day. Every
-
day. We need God's forgiveness in our lives. Our conduct towards God is
-
one that is constantly seeking his pardon, constantly seeking his mercy, and constantly
-
seeking his grace, because what we really deserve is his judgment. Therefore,
-
it is when we do this, when we seek the Lord's forgiveness, it
-
puts us in right fellowship with God. Because we allow Jesus to wash our
-
feet, he rules our conduct. This that now makes sense. So now
-
that we have established that every believer needs to day seek the Lord's forgiveness,
-
here comes to condition. Okay, So I hope we understand when we why
-
the lords say pray this prayer forgive us our debts, because really all of
-
us are in debt to the Lord and we owe him something, something that
-
we should have done that we did not do. Daily there is you know.
-
But I don't want you to live in fear and no leave knowing that
-
Lord I've fallen short when he comes to you, but you are amazing when
-
he comes to forgiving. And as long as I understand this account to you
-
daily. But here comes to condition because it is forgive us our debts and
-
then God continuation and as we forgive our debtors, who are you're The subsequent
-
phrase in the Lord's prayer has caused more difficulty to people actually than the first,
-
because it is probably the most difficult thing to do. I mean,
-
you think seeking forgiveness is from the Lord is hard. Then suddenly you realize,
-
no, actually, forgiving the flur down the road who pissed me off
-
is even harder. And that's the reality of it. And initially no sidence,
-
we probably think, No, it's so weird that there is a condition
-
attached to this portion of the petition the prayer, because God is saying I
-
will forgive you only if you forgive others. And most of us understand that
-
the Gospel of Christ is free forgiveness, free grades, no conditions, no
-
bargains, no contracts. Doesn't God say that if you repent and believe,
-
you are forgiven. Yet here in the Lord's Prayer we are being told that
-
we've been told to do something for someone else before God will forgive us.
-
Feels like we have to work for our salvation. Right. Isn't this God
-
going right against the principle of free grace and saying I wouldn't forgive you your
-
sins until you have been out and done something for someone else. Is it
-
not putting a condition to forgiveness againner, we must always be reminded that the
-
Lord's Prayer is not a prayer for unbelievers. It was never meant to be.
-
It is a prayer for believers because it was the followers, the disciples
-
who say Lord teach us to pray, and it's a daily prayer for the
-
follower of Christ. So what then, does this condition mean? Does it
-
mean that God has laid down a law that unless we pass forgiveness on he
-
won't forgive us. I don't think it is a matter of God cannot forgive
-
us or he can't forgive us if we do not meet the condition. I
-
think it's a case of he won again. It's not a case of if
-
you don't forgive someone, God cannot It's like like that's a barrier. It's
-
more a case of he won't. And I'll explain it. You see.
-
The real reason why He doesn't forgive those Christians who don't forgive others is actually
-
very simple. He doesn't feel like it. He does not want to.
-
It is the feelings of God and his will and his intention that matters here.
-
Let's study this parable that Jesus shared with Peter. When Jesus was actually
-
asked how many times should I forgive a person? Remember that parable? How
-
many times should I forgive that person? And I think we can draw some
-
truth out to why I just said what I just said. You see,
-
there was a king and he was very generous, and he had a lot
-
of compassion and sympathy, and he forgave his slave, I think of millions
-
of dollars. And then he heard the same slave ran out and true a
-
fellow, a person who owed him a much smaller sum into prison. Remember
-
that parable. So King forgive this slave millions of dollars. And then this
-
slave ran out, met some one who owed him just thousands of dollars and
-
say, you're not paying me back. I'm going to report you and I'm
-
going to throw you into prison. What happens next? The king was angry
-
and he said that I take back my forgiveness. The words of Jesus teach
-
how God feels about your unforgiveness. You see, God is my father,
-
so I think I know how he feels because I'm also a father and all.
-
And I just realized that kick has a lot of kids, so so
-
many kids. Okay, just imagine me, Okay, if your children say
-
you got two kids, and they come to you and they say that they
-
cannot have a suite, and you give a suite to each of them,
-
and then you actually found out later that one of them stole the other siblings
-
suit, whacked it, finished it, then came back to you and asked,
-
can I have another suite? What would you say? You probably say
-
you're not getting another sweet from me, because I'm pretty upset with you right
-
now. Why would you be angry because one of the children did this,
-
And there's a very simple reason behind it, because you don't want your child
-
to grow up like that. And if you were to go on indulging a
-
child behaving badly, he would grow up to be naughty and selfish and basically
-
end up being a kleptomania, being a thief, someone who takes things.
-
God wants us to grow up to be more like him, and he wants
-
us to be forgiving as he is forgiving. If he were to forgive you
-
each day of your deaths and you would not to forgive others, he would
-
be encouraging you to go on behaving like that. And he is not that
-
kind of father. Does that now makes sense? He would be upset with
-
you, and if you are not prepared to forgive others of their debts to
-
you, then he is not going to forgive yours. He would be upset,
-
he would be angry. Now I can totally understand that it makes sense
-
in this context, right, And God is just telling us how he feels
-
about us, and he's talking about his children, believes us Christians. Do
-
you expect him to go on wiping out your debts if you don't wipe other
-
people's debts. It's a good food for thought, because if he were to
-
go on doing that, he would be doing us. He would be destroying
-
our character. And he is not that kind of father. Jesus stated what
-
his feelings are, and I can see his reasons for it, because an
-
unforgiving person does not know what he is asking for when he says forgive,
-
and unforgiving person will not appreciate forgiveness even if he can, and unforgiving person
-
will be made more unforgiving if he is forgiven under those circumstances. God's will
-
for us is to grow up to be more like him. That's why it
-
says forgive seventy times seven times. That means keep on forgiving. In other
-
words, be like your heavenly father. And don't we have that assurance that
-
whenever we come to him, he will be faithful. Whenever we confess our
-
sins to be he will be faithful to forgive us. God will not forgive
-
your dads at the end of each day if you're not learning to be like
-
him. Otherwise it would not be good fathering. It's actually bad discipline.
-
And I pray we understand that and from that perspective, because if we carry
-
on in life with a conduct that never forgives, then my own only hope
-
for all of us is that you never sin, because that is what this
-
petition in the Lord's prayer is really about. Forgive us our sin, forgive
-
us our deaths. And so to some this all I'm in two words is
-
forgiving, forgiven. That is the law for Christians. This is not a
-
hate matter. It's actually a heart matter. And therefore it's a heart matter.
-
I know, I understand, and I it took me a lot of
-
time to learn and understand this, and I'm still learning to do this because
-
it's enough to say, Lord, give us this day our daily bread,
-
no conditions attached to anyone. And God, you know it's a good God.
-
If you ask for bread, he will give you. Pray, He's
-
not going to give you a snake. He's not gonna right by when it
-
comes to seeking the Lord's forgiveness. No, he says, I can't give
-
you unless you first forgive. Therefore, if I'm praying this prayer while holding
-
on to grudges, while I'm beatter with someone in my heart, while there's
-
resentment, while there's jealous jealousy, basically I'm literally asking God not to forgive
-
my dad's I know our heart's cry will still always be God. This is
-
such a difficult thing to do, and I agree, forgiving others seems to
-
almost be impossible, especially when we conclude that we have been wrong and we
-
actually deserve to hold this grudge and this hate against the other person. They
-
actually owe us and they can't pay up. And I have every right to
-
be upset, I understand, but remember this always. But remember this always,
-
and I hope this brings us back. I'm leaving the teaching and I'm
-
going into the preaching now. Jesus forgave us on the cross. Remember that.
-
To put it all in perspective, I wonder if we ever realize how
-
difficult it was for God to forgive us with us. If we can't forgive
-
our neighbor. It is usually because of our pride, it's because of me,
-
it's because of my reputation, my rights, and I have got to
-
crucify myself to forgive the other person. But with God, it's not about
-
any of those things. It's not about pride. Why would it be so
-
difficult for God to actually forgive? And I'll tell you why. Because of
-
his purity, because of his holiness, because of his goodness. He just
-
cannot bear sin at all. He really dislikes sin, He hates sin.
-
And how does he get around this difficulty of my debts? Have you ever
-
asked yourself that question? How did he get around this whole difficult situation of
-
my debts by paying them for me? That is the only thing that makes
-
it possible for God to forgive my debts. You see, the word forgive
-
in the Hebrew language means two things. It can mean to remit or to
-
cancel. Can you imagine that remit or cancer basically to cancel the debt,
-
and it could also mean to pay for it. It is the same word
-
for both of it. And imagine with me in the Middle East, when
-
you are in debt, Let's just say you're in a marketplace and you're in
-
debt. You go to a shop and you couldn't pay for something that you
-
want to purchase. What you do is you can write your name on a
-
sheet of paper and stick it on the store. Basically, you pin it
-
for everyone to see that you all this person something. It's probably good incentive
-
as well for you to eventually pay that, because it's not your name will
-
always be stuck on that stall. Right. But if a man is willing
-
to pay your debt and cancel it for you, what he does is he
-
will come, He will fall that paper and cross it out with his name,
-
and then he will put a nail through that paper, essentially canceling out
-
the other person's death, you know. In Colosions, chapter two, verse
-
fourteen, he says, Paul says that God has in Christ taken the bond
-
of debts which was written again us, and he has nailed it to the
-
cross. He has finished it and written a cross that is the name Jesus.
-
Finally, finally, is there anything like the joy of forgiveness? If
-
only we can fully identify with what the Lord did for us on the Cross
-
of Calvary, knowing that it is over and done, knowing that the person
-
who has forgiven you will never bring it up again, He'll never mention it.
-
No. I can imagine God the Father and Jesus sitting next to each
-
other in heaven, which is what is ultimately happening right now, and if
-
it's time to judge, and God the Father is looking at this person and
-
no, it's like, oh, Jesus, did this person do anything wrong?
-
No, because no looks like that A lot of it's a wrong rap
-
shit behind him. But Jesus will be like, I don't know what you're
-
talking about. I don't know who this person whom you claim have done anything
-
wrong, because everything here has been paid for to the nails that I bore.
-
Can you imagine the joy of the person hearing that, knowing that his
-
sins have been canceled out, forgiven, never mentioned again, knowing how much
-
God loves you, Knowing how much he would actually slaughter the fattened curve,
-
how he would actually put a ring on your fingers, shoes on your feet,
-
rope on your back, and bring you home. That is forgiveness.
-
Forgive us, our Dad's Lord, all that we owe you. Every day.
-
Let's stand and let's look to the Lord Father. I pray that as
-
your word goes forth, Lord, we will be reminded of what you have
-
done for us on the Cross of Calvary, and that we will fully understand
-
why it is so important for us to seek your forgiveness and why it's so
-
important for us to forgive those who have wronged us. Lord, we thank
-
you that you are a faithful God. Faithful Lord, we can make mistakes
-
after mistakes, and I pray and I know, Lord God, that you
-
will lead and you will guide us a god to a place where we will
-
be obedient to you, because that is basically what we are supposed to be.
-
Lord, transform us. It is not true our strength that we can
-
fully and truly transform, But it is only when we depend on the Holy
-
Spirit that the Spirit of God will feel our hearts. If you think today
-
that you are not able to give someone, I ask that you depend on
-
the Holy Spirit, because, yes, if it is by your own strength,
-
it's going to be impossible. But by the Spirit of God, the
-
God who is faithful in our lives, I trust that he will lead you
-
down this path. We hope you've been blessed by this message. For more
