Understanding What God Wants | Elder Terence Atkinson

You're listening to a message to go from at church. We hope this message

will light up your day today. I've got a message I believe that the

Lord wants us to know, which is actually very important. All the messages

are important, okay, but understanding what God wants, Understanding what God wants?

Do we take the trouble to understand what God wants? Hey? Look,

sometimes when our spouse tells us something, do we understand what she wants?

Do we understand what he wants? You know nowadays that I only eat

chicken breasts because no skin, Ma, no skin, easy to cook,

you know. But Elder Mabel she likes chicken pie. But the thing is,

when you go and you do the shop, you have to be very

specific what you want, right. So I went and I bought chicken breasts,

you know, looked pretty good. And then I bought her chicken thie

and she says, what kind of chicken te you bought me? It looks

like the chicken and look ami or something like that. So I can't help

it. This is what they have. You see, My understanding of what

a good piece is and her understanding or what a good piece is is totally

different. So when we look at what God wants. He's looking at me

very very blankly. So I say, okay, next time you buy the

chicken tie, you show me what you want, and then I will know

what you want. Understanding what God wants? Do you know that understanding can

either be a stumbling block or a stepping stone. Understanding can either be a

stumbling block or stepping stone. How do we understand something? What do we

mean by understanding something? You know? You can understand something wrongly? You

can? You know, I can tell you don't go there. I don't

ever want to see you go there. I can tell my children that.

And as far as they're concerned, I don't understand, because Indian mind,

they understand. But see, what they don't understand is what I understand.

And what I understand is if you go there, somebody is going to come

around and smack you. See, but I understand, but they don't understand

that. You see. Do you realize how many of you've got? Very

few of you've got teenage children? Right? How many we've got teenage children?

Okay, all right, I asked you this question. Suddenly, when

they become teenagers, do you feel like to them you have become irrelevant.

Not yet young teen coming attraction older teens? Anybody experienced that or not?

Suddenly you don't understand you got it all wrong. I mean you're old.

What do you know? Right? They always tell you that you're so old?

What do you know? Hey? I was once a teenager myself.

Yeah. So the thing is this understanding can either be a stumbling block when

you don't understand right, when you don't see things right, You understanding may

get you into trouble. Your understanding may lead you How many of you have

heard this understanding? One drink is okay? After all? Is just a

glass of wine? The Bible says, for your stomach, drink one glass

of wine. How many have you heard that statement before? And how many

of you know that there are many people who never learned to stop at one

glass? True? Why start the one glass and allow yourself to go on

to two to three and ruin lives? See, that's the wrong understanding of

scripture. Scripture never meant for you to find that it's okay to take one

glass of wine? After all? It what did Paul say? If you

cannot get better than you, you take one glass? It will help you?

So it was a medicinal take, It was a take for a healing

purpose. Was it take for the sheer enjoyment of the buzz you get from

the alcoholic content? Ah? Do you know that understanding is quite a funny

thing. It is funny because it can break us. Understanding the wrong way

can break you. If you understand that God is a God of love,

so He's okay with everything I do, no matter what I do. After

all, God understands. How many of you heard that statement before? It's

true, But that kind of understanding, in that way can break you,

because how many of us know that God himself has said, away from me,

I never knew. You may have called me this, you may have

called me that. You may call me lord, Lord, you may cast

out demons in my name, you may have healed the sick in my name.

But away away from me, I never knew you. Oh, how

did this happen? You see, the wrong kind of understanding can break you.

How many of you have heard this statement? God works in mysterious ways.

Every time I hear that, I say, hey, man, this

is not in the Bible. God doesn't work in mysterious ways. God works

his way just because you don't know. It doesn't make it mysterious, It

just makes it away. You don't know. But after he does it,

guess what you know? Is it mystery anymore? No? The Bible says,

the mystery that has been kept hidden for generations has now been made known

to the Sains. What is that Christ in you? The hope of glory?

Hey, it is no mystery to us anymore because Jesus is in us.

God works in mysterious ways. Every time I hear that, my hand

back of many stands because this is how the devil managed to trap Eve with

a half truth. You see, don't allow half truths to get involved in

your understanding because it is those half truths that will cause you to fall into

a lie. So that's why even statement like that I just don't like.

But you know that understanding can make us because when we understand right, Praise

the Lord, things are going to change. You want change, you want

breakthrough, You want to see something good happen in your life. How does

it happen when you have the right understanding? So do you think it's worthwhile

to get our understanding right? Absolutely? So I want to actually go into

that and perhaps we will understanding a little better. Okay, let's look at

Ephesians four eighteen. It says having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the

life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the

blindness of their heart. I remember the last time I came here. I

told you about this lady who has not seen the son in two years because

the son thinks he is a she. And the Australian government has taken that

son away because the woman said, no, you are not a she,

you are a he, and she has not seen the sun in two years.

Do you understand what I mean? Some of you are looking at blank

faces. Okay, let me explain it. The guy thinks he's a girl,

so he's gone to his mother and says, I want to be a

girl. The mother said, no, you're not a girl, you're a

boy. He goes to the school and he tells the teacher, my mother

won't allow me to be a girl. She reports it to the authorities.

The authorities come and take the child away so that they can continue to turn

this boy into a girl through what through chemicals and through surgery, and the

mother has got no say. Having their understanding darkn Do you and I actually

know what this means. Let me tell you what I just learned this week,

and this is happening in California right now. Parents found out. They're

in kindergartens across the state. They have a club for kids. You know

what is this club? This club is for boys to learn to love boys

and for girls to love girls. And this club is a clandestine club.

The parents were never asked permission. But the parents found out, and now

they are taking the education system to task because in this state, if the

children want to join a gardening club, they have to get parents permission.

So how come when they have this LGBTQI club, permission was not asked.

Do you know that the battle is for your kids? Are we aware that

the battle is for our children? You want to send your kids overseas to

study, You train them from now, You prepare them for the crap that

they are going to receive overseas. In terms of this, I have to

be straight. I'm very sorry because this is a reality that you and I

have to face. The world is confused. This is what scripture says.

Having your understanding dark and being alienated from the life of God because of the

ignorant rance that is in them and the blindness of the heart. This is

happening today. When I read that, I tell you, I got so

angry. I got angry because you have taken the fight to the dirtiest of

levels. You're trying to influence the children. I'm not telling you don't send

your kids a way to study. I am telling you that if you want

to send your kids to study, you teach them from now right is right

and wrong is wrong. Hell is hot and singing right, and God is

holy, and Christ is coming and righteousness will prevail. You got to train

them from now used to I told you I trained my girls. Man,

two girls, We're not going to be around forever. We can go at

any time. You need to have someone on your side who will help you

each and every day. And you know who that person is. He is

Jesus. Get to know him now. The Bible says train your child and

the way it's a lord, and when he grows old, he will not

soon depart from it. The Bible also says spare the spare the rod,

and spoil the child. You try sparing the rod in Australia, I mean

you try not sparing the road in Australia and see what happens. Hey,

guys, this is real, This is real. Bible is very clear.

I mean, Jesus knows what he's talking about. Wisdom, Wisdom is the

principal thing. This is Problebs four seven. Principle is the principal thing.

Wisdom is the most important thing. Therefore, get wisdom, and the Bible

says, and in all you're getting, get understanding. Hey, look,

if there's nothing that you can get, get the understanding of God's word that

for you will be the greatest pearl of great price, which of course is

Jesus understanding who Jesus is. I've been praying for this message. I've been

praying that the Lord anointed this morning as I walked for hours. I prayed

and walked around the neighborhood for hours, praying that God's wor will settle in

our hearts. Because time is short. Jesus is coming again. He's coming

again, really soon, and we better be ready. We had better be

ready. The world is a very tentative place now, So the Bible says,

in all you're getting, in all your desire to improve yourself, in

all your desire to increase your wealth in all your desire, to build your

own minor kingdoms for yourself. The Bible says, get understanding. I heard

a testimony or I heard a prayjuice now, but somebody who's going to go

away or might be going away in the future, How do you prepare yourself?

Get understanding? How do you know whether you're doing right? Get understanding?

In Isaiah forty twenty eight, it says, have you not known and

have you not heard? That the Everlasting God, the Lord, the creator

of the ends of the earth, neither faints nor is weary. His understanding

is unsearchable. Do you know why I ask you to get God's understanding?

Because it's all the understanding you need to be successful. I shared with you

the last time that we have no rights succeeding without the help of Christ.

You remember that. Now I am telling you that with Christ comes that understanding

you need to be successful, not successful the world's way where they make a

lot of money, spend a lot of money, die and go to a

christless eternity. Is that success? That is failure? How about this?

Earn a lot of money, spend a lot of money, die and go

and be with Christ totally successful, and scripture is saying it comes with understanding.

I just love the way the Lord brings understanding. After your Testimy,

maybe I didn't need to share sit down in just you know, say okay,

she's preached the message. I don't need to go anywhere, don't need

to say anything. Hey, understanding. What is the understanding that God is

trying to get to us? See through your precepts. I get understanding.

It is through God's precepts. Therefore I hate every false way. You know,

I like the way and Ivy puts it. Of course you don't see

that, but in my notes it is. I gain understanding from your preceps.

Therefore I hate every wrong path. Can we hate every wrong path?

You know? What's the thing about a wrong path? A wrong path is

not the right path. I remember. I don't know whether I've told you

this before, but we had to go to X Kneeli. All right,

but I'll tell you again. It's a story worthy to be told X Kneel.

So I put on ways, all right, but ways is not Jesus

Christ. Ways is the wrong path. Jesus Christ is the right path.

So I put on the wrong path and so I went, and I kept

on driving, and suddenly the big highway became a smaller road, and then

suddenly became a path. And I looked in the left hand and looked on

the right hand. The grass was taller than the car. But we say

no, no, no, you go here and then turn right. Okay.

I went, and then suddenly I see a palm oiler stayed in front

of me. Okay, this his turn right. So I turned right.

And when I turned right and drove a little bit, there was a big

cow sitting in the middle of the road. Yeah, didn't detect stumbling block?

Yeah yeah, no I didn't. I did. I was I needed

to get the church again. Oh, I didn't tell you that small road

became a madpath. Okay, So this car was lying there, so he

looked at me. I looked at it. Serious, I'm not kidding you.

We stared at each other. Then I horned. Then the cow looked,

gave me such a father up look, and got up and moved away.

I traveled on. When I traveled a little bit more, the where

sit straight road right, one big ditch in between, no bridge to cross.

I'm serious. So I backed the car out again and I drove and

guess who was there. The cow was right in the middle of the road.

So I pressed the horn. The cow gave me another dirty look.

Hey, I let you go the first time. Can you just leave me

alone? Got up slowly, moved to the side of the road, and

I travel And you know, I don't know how I got to church that

day. I did, I did. We eventually got to church and her

new red car was now brown fulled with mud. I hate every false way,

this is what Scripture says. I hate every false way. It takes

up your time, it spoils your day, it dirties your car. But

if we take the right way or no problem, and we reach where we

want to go, pack the car, go up to church, everything is

fine. So then we ask ourself this question, So what is the right

path? Then? What is the right path? I'm going to tell you

something that you already know. But seriously, guys, this is what God

wants and we had better get with the program. If you don't remember anything

of what I'm going to share with you, remember this, which is something

we all know. It's what God wants. Matthew twenty eight nineteen. Go

therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the

Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe

all things that I have commanded you. And lo, I am with you

always, even to the end of the age. I want you to know.

You know why the word amen is in yellow, because I wanted to

highlight it. We have always shared this word, right, Oh Lord,

behold, I'm with you until the end of the age. How many of

us when we call the descriptures say amen? You know what amen's means.

Let it be so, let it be done. In other words, what

is Jesus saying? He's saying, I want you to share Jesus, and

that's what I want you to do. So do it? So do it.

Hey, when we meet the Lord one day, he is not going

to ask us how many children we raised. He may ask did you bring

them up in the ways of the Lord? He may ask did you disciple

them? Oh? No, Lord, I was busy making money. I

actually left the school to teach them. I sent them to Christian school,

you know, so they could learn about you. Oh really, you think

you can give God that can answer? Oh? Lord, you know I

was very successful in my job, I became the CEO internationally. My name

was in Who's Who. Then Jesus asks you, is your name written in

the Lamb's Book of Life? Hey, there's only one book we need our

names in, and that's in the Lamb's Book of Life. You know how

we get our names written in the Lamb's Book of Life? We do what

God wants. You know? The Bible says Jesus says for God to love

the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in

him should not perish, but have ever last thing. Why and well,

we are we accepted Jesus, We called him into our hearts to be our

Lord and savior, and we are saved. But is that the end of

it? God wants us to do something with that salvation. He doesn't want

us to just keep it to ourselves, because what is that? That is

selfish nurse. If he wanted to keep it to he would not have given

us this. If he just wanted it for us to keep it to ourselves,

this would not have been his last statement before he went up, Hey,

or one of his last statements before he went up. Can we have

a mind to share? With people. On Thursday. I had this burning

thing in my heart to see my parents. So I think it was Friday,

Thursday or Friday last week, one of these days. No, no,

no, it was even the public holiday, so it would be Tuesday.

I went to see my folks. I want to see both my parents,

and then of course they inclined and I spoke to my dad about that

letter I wrote, because I actually found a letter again. I found a

letter that I wrote to him eight years ago, sharing with him the love

of Christ and putting a prayer in there that he would pray every day to

receive, you know, and to keep his life in the Lord. Now

they come from a traditional faith. It doesn't matter what faith you come from.

You can even come from the Christian faith. But if you're not given

your life over to Jesus with your own mouth, there's a question mark.

So I shared with my father and mother and I said, guys, you

are not getting any younger. I actually told my parents that you and I

will live each and every day, each additional day, by the grace and

the power and the love of God. It's a gift. So I told

them it is my sincere desire that you be sure that when you are ready

to leave this earth, you meet Jesus as a friend. And there's only

one way that happens, and that's to give your life to him, to

confess his name upon your lips, to believe that he died and he rose

again. And I know you believe. I told him, you believe in

God, believe also in Jesus. And I let both of them in the

salvation prayer which they both prayed, and the fervency in which my father prayed.

It. I was very encouraged. And then my mom said, you

know what, I pray to Jesus every day. I thank him every day

for the life that he has given me and for the help that is giving

me. And I told her that's the way. Aha, aha, I

like it. Go for it. You gotta make it that way. You

gotta thank Jesus, you gotta acknowledge him. How many of us have loved

once that we have not shared with It's not easy sometimes, but you know,

with each and every time you share Jesus, it becomes easier. You

know, it becomes easier because you're telling them something good man where they want

to take it, or they don't want to take it. There's their business.

If I know, I just read, I just read the best one

time me is in a little shop in Bido. How many have you read

that on Facebook? So it seems that you know this. You read that.

It seems it's fantastic. So we're going to be traveling, you know,

in about in about two months time. So I've already put this in

the group saying, now mine is just five minutes from the NKV. Let's

Hey, God, on the days when I fall to pieces, when

somebody doesn't accept the Lord, he's their choice. What is my responsibility?

My responsibility is to do what God wants. And what does God want he

wants me to share. Doesn't it seem like that is the theme of every

message you've been receiving of late, that all may know, that only know

what how fantastic you are, how fantastic I am. No that all may

know Jesus, that all may know Jesus. So it's so difficult to share,

right, it's so difficult to share. You can go to the next

light. Wow, so difficult to witness. Hey, you like these slides

on? Not thank you? I was so boredered the same or PowerPoint slides.

So I asked somebody why you're slide so nicer? So they say slide

go. So I went to slide go and huh yeah, So I tried

listen. Even I'm surprised at the outcome. Okay, sour, praise the

Lord. H It's so difficult to witness, So it's easy to say,

you got to go out it witness. I got to give you a handle.

How do you do this? You know, it's so easy for me

to stand here like on a soapbox and say, oh, we must do

this, we must do without telling you how I'm wasting your time. So

I don't want to waste your time. In Psalms one one nine thirty four

says, give me understanding, and I shall keep your law indeed, indeed,

as as Jean luc Picard would say, indeed, okay, I shall

observe it with my whole heart. Hey, we're not supposed to do it

on our on our own. You know, we were never supposed to do

it on our own. We were never supposed to be able to manage this

on our own. You see, we always thought that we had to do

it right. Wrong. It's not just us. Scripture says, give me

understanding. Who are we talking to me? Talking to God? God?

Give me understanding? How do I share? Talk badminton? Huh? Badminton

is gonna save somebody? Yeah? And I talked badminton and the guy understood,

I shall keep your law. You know, how we keep God's law

is when we understand correctly. So how we understand correctly? We ask God?

God helped me understand. So now we begin to understand correctly and guess

what we're able to keep his law? What is his law? What is

he? What does he want? I want you to share? I want

you to witness? And what does it say? I shall observe it?

With my whole heart. You were not meant to be evangelists, because some

are men to be evangelists, but not all of us are meant to be

evangelists. But you know what, we are all meant to be witnesses.

So nobody is asking us to share to a ten thousand people, Share to

the one, share to the one. When was the last time we invited

our neighbor to homes? Would we even think of inviting our neighbor to homes?

Why this isn't our neighbor need to know? Jesus when we learn that

understanding, Now every time we see a neighbor, we're looking with eyes to

invite that person to homes. We were the most quiet people in our neighborhood.

I think people didn't even realize who we were because we're come in,

we go very quiet, seen and not heard. We were seen and not

heard, but in our case, we were also not seen. But now

things are changing. Even as I do my walks, you know, I

see a lot of people and I say good morning, Hi, hello.

You know, I see some old ladies walking and say how are you today?

Then the Lord has put in my heart one lady which I see,

she's not, so she doesn't look so healthy, and she walks really slow.

And she told me I can barely walk one round. You've gone so

many rounds already. So I'm waiting to talk to her. The next time

I bump me to her, I will tell her start first with going to

the next lamp posts and the next lamp post, and then one day I

will tell her, why didn't you come to our homes and meet us so

that we can pray with you? Yeah, because the worst that can ever

happen is she will say, no, I'll live. I'll live. In

Isaiah chapter eleven, verse two, it says the spirit of the Lord shall

rest upon him, and the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of

counsel and might, and the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the

Lord. You know, when we don't witness, we are telling God we

don't fear you. Is that frightening? He should be, because we're not

doing the one thing that God has asked us to do. So it's no

longer an excuse. I'm afraid, I'm shy. He's already given you the

He's already given you the way. What's the way? The way is asking

God for understanding. And when you ask the Lord for understanding, the Bible

says, the spirit of the Lord will rest upon him who is the him

that's Jesus, But that Jesus is actually whatever the Father has given to Jesus.

Jesus says, he's given to us. So the spirit of wisdom and

understanding, enough counsel and of might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear

of the Lord. These are the things that help us understand how to do

what God wants us to do. So now we've prayed and we've asked the

Lord God give us understanding. We've prayed and we've asked the Lord, help

us to do it, help us to reach out, help us to share,

help us to know what to say. We've asked the Lord. Right,

then, I want to tell you this to seal it. In Proverbs

three, verses five and six says trust in the Lord with all of your

heart, and lean on on on your understanding in all your ways. Acknowledge

him, and he shall make your path straight. Trust in the Lord with

all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. Hey, the

mystic the problem was always how we understood. Bible is saying trust in the

Lord. And then it says, in all our in all your ways,

acknowledge him, and he shall direct direct your paths. It says, in

all your ways, acknowledge him, and he shall direct your Lord. I'm

going to share to this guy, and he said, he wants to see

you before he accepts the Lord. Lord. He doesn't have much time left,

he doesn't have long to live. How do I get through? I

don't know what to say. I don't know how to say. You know

what I was doing. I was acknowledging God. Say God, you have

the answer and you can help me. And then the Lord gave badminton.

But the Lord didn't stop there. So this man wanted to see Jesus.

So when I was sharing with him, I said, look around. You

see all the people who are there who are caring for you right now.

They are Jesus. They are doing it because they love Jesus. They're doing

it because Jesus is in your heart. So if you want to see Jesus,

he has been with you all along. Just look around the people who

are caring for you. He shall direct your path. Trust in the Lord

with all of your heart. The word heart here means the inner man,

your mind, your will, your heart, Trust in the Lord with your

inner man, not the outer man that fears, not the outer man that

sees things around him, the inner man. You know, as I was

going to that hospital, going up to share, it started to rain so

heavily, and I was gonna get wet in my heart. I just said

this, Lord, nothing is going to stop me if I have to get

wet. It's all right. Umbrella don't work. That can aren my desert

not having umbrella. By the time you open you umbrella, you already.

So I don't like umbrellas you know, you open the car, you trime.

By that time already you're inside the car. So you are so so

the inner man, the mind, your will, and your heart. You

gotta trust in God with all of this. And it says lean not on

your own understanding. You know what is lean on? Don't support yourself with

your understanding. You know when you're tired, and how many you would lean

against the wall like this? How many we ever lean on the wall like

this when you're tired. Sure, hence it helps, right, Scripture is

saying that kind of help you don't need. You don't lean on your own

understanding because you're understanding. We discussed earlier on maybe right, maybe wrong can

be flawed. So when we see ourselves not hitting the mark, not getting

the target right, we have an indication. Why is an understanding correct and

are we leaning on the wrong way? Then the Bible says, with all

of your heart, we have this trouble with the word all because we always

like to reserve a little bit. Creg You always want to have a reserve.

But God's in it. He's all in it. He's in it all

the way. God doesn't give you half measures. He gives you full measure,

full measures. So when you trust in the Lord, it's either all

or not. There's no other word to describe all than the whole all.

You know. You go to Hebrew, you go to Greek, you study

the word all. You know what it means all. No fantastic thing I

got to share about that. It's very clear, and it says you don't

lean on your own understanding, but to lean is to support oneself. So

you want to get it right. You want to see that person come to

the Lord. You want to see your sharing make a difference. You want

to see people get saved. You want to see your loved ones give their

heart to the Lord. What the scripture say you have to support yourself on

what on the Lord. Scripture also says you acknowledge the Lord. What does

it mean by to acknowledge the Lord? It means to know acknowledge the Lord

in all of your ways. Give glory to God. Always mention the Lord.

Let the Lord know every step you take that song is coming to mind.

Every step okay, every step you take is ordered by the Lord.

Acknowledge the Lord in everything. God, I'm going it's raining, Praise the

Lord. You want to stop the rain. I'm happy you don't want to

stop the rain. It's not going to change the way I do things.

I acknowledge you Lord. You're greater than the rain. You're greater than getting

wet. You're greater than the summ of my knowledge. You're greater than because

my knowledge will not get this person safe, but the power of your Holy

Spirit. It's going to reach out. Remember the scription whose power power the

Holy Spirit, and the Bible says, acknowledge the Lord in all of your

ways, and he will make your path straight. You know what this word

means straight. He will make your path smooth. Have you heard the statement

smooth sailing. Ah, Sir, I don't want to get into smooth operator.

Okay, smooth sailing. He will make your part smooth. He will

make your path straight. And I love this one. He will make your

path right. Yeah, that's what this word means. How many of us

want to be on the right path. You want to be on the right

path. Acknowledge the Lord in all of you always, and you will be

on the right puff. Totally unrelated. Well, it seems unrelated, but

it's related. I want to share this with you. In Acts sixteen twenty

eight to thirteen, it says that but Poor called with a loud voice,

saying, do yourself no harm, for we are all here. Then he

called for a light and ran in and fell down trembling before Paul in Silas.

And he brought them out and said, sir, what must I do

to be saved? You know what read the story comes from paul in Silas.

They were worshiping, They were praising the Lord. They were acknowledging the

Lord in the prison, in the darkness, in the deep dungeons. When

the Lord showed up, shook the prison. The chains for off, the

doors fell off, and the prisoner, the prison keeper, the warden,

the what is he um? Well, the man who was looking, you

know, the guardian of the prison was about to kill himself. And Paul

said, don't for we are all here. What did scriptures say? He

brought them out. He called for a light, which means it was dark.

How could the man take Paul at his word that they were all there?

Did we ever ask ourself this question? So Paul said, don't do

it. We're all here. Firstly, how did Paul know because it was

dark, no like, How did the man know because it was all dark?

It was all it was dark, it was at night, needed a
