You're listening to a message to go from Acts Church.
-
We hope this message will light up your day.
-
The word I have for you today, the title is
-
called the Purpose of Power. All right, Look, your neighbor,
-
I say purpose of power, all right, and specifically power
-
of the Holy Spirit. So I'm going to lead us
-
in a little bit of a Bible almost a Bible study.
-
But don't worry, we won't go too deep, because there's
-
time and space for that, all right. We can have
-
our own Bible studies, but just a general understanding. And
-
hopefully from this general understanding, we understand the truth of
-
the power the Holy Spirit, and that will inspire us
-
to leave the right way when we have the power
-
of the Holy Spirit. Okay, As an introductor, I want
-
to ask us a question. How many of us here
-
have had the baptism of the Holy Spirit. I have,
-
someone's have, some some of us may be not sure.
-
What is that? Where did we draw the baptism of
-
the Holy Spirit from? It's actually from the bow of
-
Acts right of how when the one hundred and twenty
-
gathered at the Upper room, right because Jesus instructed them
-
wait upon the Holy Spirit, for I will go and
-
I will send someone to you. And there was a
-
holy Spirit. So the one hundred and twenty gathered at
-
the Upper Room and prayed, and the Holy Spirit came
-
upon them. That is what we call the baptism of
-
the Holy Spirit, all right, came upon them, and with
-
it came boldness, courage, came gifts of the Holy Spirit,
-
which we will talk about later. And we will see
-
also what happens after that. Okay, so that is the
-
baptism of the Holy Spirit. About half of us here
-
have had it. I will encourage us. You know, you
-
can desire for the baptism of the Holy Spirit. And
-
when there's the baptism of the Holy Spirit and it's biblical,
-
there is it's very hard to explain. I'll share you
-
a little bit of my personal story of what how
-
I got my baptism on the whole spirit, all right,
-
a little bit, a share more in a little bit now,
-
if it's not baptism of the Holy Spirit. How many
-
of you have clearly experienced for yourself the power of
-
the Holy Spirit? Well what does that mean? Okay, let
-
me make it another, make it easier. Let me rephrace this.
-
How many of you have experienced the Holy Spirit. Okay,
-
some yes, some know, some probably not sure, Okay, but
-
I will teach a little bit on this, Okay. I
-
hope we believe in the Holy Spirit. I always think
-
that among the Trinity, probably the Holy Spirit is the
-
one that gets forgotten the most, sadly, right, we always
-
talk about Father, God and Father, and then Christ the Sun.
-
That Holy Spirit. I don't know. Maybe some of us
-
have a perception that is the lesser of the tree.
-
I hope you don't think that way, al right, He's not.
-
It's part of the trinity, all right. And the tree
-
that God the Father has his function, Christ the Son
-
this function. Holy Spirit also has its function, all right.
-
And I pray that if you've never experienced the Holy Spirit,
-
that you would desire to experience the Holy Spirit, because
-
it is true, the experiencing of the Holy Spirit, that
-
we are empowered to live our life in abundance in Christ,
-
the abundance that God has installed for us. Okay, Okay,
-
I got only two points for us today. When you
-
talk about the purpose of power, we're going to talk
-
about why. What is the purpose of having the power
-
of the Holy Spirit in us? Okay? Many of us
-
probably have the conception or concept, and it's not wrong
-
to us a certain degree that the Holy Spirit is
-
here to help us. How many of you agree the
-
Holy Spirit is here to help us? Yeah, okay, maybe
-
I can get a little bit of participation. How does
-
the Holy Spirit help us? Can just shout it out.
-
How has the Holy Spirit helped you? Sorry? Pretty your conscience,
-
I said, oh, should be here. Conscience is here, Yes,
-
it should be. Yeah, you know whether you're doing right
-
or wrong? That's good. Anything else? Guiding reminding you of
-
God's word? Okay, very good? Yeah. That we always say
-
that when we read, we have to read scripture. All right.
-
It's not that God will suddenly you don't read Bible,
-
or God will give you every single verse of the Bible.
-
God doesn't do that. It's only true the reading of
-
the word that in the normal moments where God wants
-
to speak to you, the Holy Spirit will remind you
-
of God's word. All right, guiding us, giving us guidance?
-
Very good? Anything else. Discern truth, that's very good. Yeah,
-
discern truth right where there's so many versions of truth
-
in this world. It is the Holy Spirit that will
-
lead us to discern truth anymore. Sorry, assurance Yeah, giving
-
us a confidence and a insurance and with it also
-
a comfort. Right. I believe in tough times we always
-
say Holy Spirit help us, God help us, and Holy
-
Spirit becomes our counselor our comforter. Right. All these are good,
-
But there are two points that actually the most important
-
that we didn't mention. Yeah, all right, And this is
-
something that is in a way expected because of where
-
the global church is at. You know, there is there
-
is a trend of thinking that the Holy Spirit's primary
-
function is to help us help ourselves. We may not
-
say it, but most of the time that's how we
-
perceive the power of the Holy Spirit in our toughest times.
-
Holy Spirit is there to help us, to empower us,
-
to help us overcome our challenges. But I'm gonna help
-
us dive into scripture and see what is actually the
-
first mention of the power the Holy Spirit in especially
-
when the baptism the Holy Spirit came upon the decyples.
-
What happened. We're gonna do a little bit of a
-
walkdow of history, okay, and I'm also gonna do a
-
bit different. Usually I will put the scripture on slides,
-
but today I want to encourage all of us to
-
open our bibles to read together. Okay, this to get
-
us in the practice as well. To flee our bibles.
-
If you have your physical bibles, if you, which I encourage,
-
you know, bring our physical bibles to church, do flee
-
open with us. If you don't have the worries, you know,
-
you can use your Bible app to look into scripture.
-
But I encourage us to bring our bibles to church.
-
All right, Okay, we're gonna read now. Okay. The first
-
point before you go into scripture is this the first purpose,
-
the primary one, the primary purposes of the power of
-
the Holy Spirit is for us to serve the body
-
of Christ, in other words, the church. What really, Yes,
-
we're gonna look at scripture. We're gonna look at First
-
Corinthians twelve four to eleven. If you can flip open
-
your bible, I'm gonna do that as well. First Corinthians twelve,
-
verse four to eleven. If you're there, say I'm there. Okay,
-
it doesn't sound very enthusiastic, but it's okay, okay there, Okay,
-
can I get maybe John, if you would to just
-
read for us First Corinthians tral four to eleven of
-
the spirit even to.
-
Each other, each one for the prophet of all, even
-
the word of wisdom.
-
To another, word of knowledge.
-
Another to another, the working of miracles to another, prophecy
-
to another, discerning of spirits another of another. But what
-
the sperience works.
-
All the.
-
Teach as the man got blessed reading of his word.
-
Thanks John. The emphasis we we've read of this scripture before,
-
and of course it's spiritual gifts, right, talk about spiritual gifts.
-
Spiritual gifts. Were to look a little bit what is
-
actually the again, primary purpose of spiritual gifts. I want
-
to bring us to look at one word that's mentioned
-
quite a few times in this portion of scripture. The
-
word is all right. There is an emphasis of all
-
okay for example, and I'm going to look for it here. Now, okay,
-
there are different kinds of working verse four, but the
-
same God who works all of them in all men,
-
I'm reading from the NIV version in NKJV which just
-
now John read is that they're diversities are gay, but
-
the same spirit the differences of ministries. And then in
-
verse eight, sorry where was I just?
-
No?
-
Okay? Verse sick? Sorry, And they are diversities of activities,
-
but it is the same God who works all in all, okay,
-
basically saying that God works true and in us, all
-
of us. And you may be thinking all can mean anyone, right,
-
It can be in different communities. We are in our workplace,
-
you know, we have this sputual gear for us to
-
operate in the workplace, for us operated within our families.
-
But I would be like to differ because if you
-
look at first Corinthians twelve twelve, which is right after this,
-
it talks about unity and diversity in one body, and
-
it Saysia twelve twelve, for us, the body is one
-
and has many members. But all the members of that
-
one body being many, are one body. So also is Christ.
-
It's talking about the body of Christ. And what's the
-
body of Christ? The church very good. So in this
-
context I believe we can draw the truth that spiritual
-
gives is for us to operate in church and during
-
this time if you I mean, the answer is in
-
the title of the book itself. Who is Paul addressing
-
this to the Corinthians. All of Corinthians can respond, one,
-
don't worry, can respond one the church of the Corinthian Church.
-
Paul was writing this letter to the Church. It's not
-
writing to every single person that dwells in this city
-
of Corinth, but particularly the Corinthian Church. So when Paul
-
was talking about this spiritual gift that the Holy Spirit
-
has given unto us, he's talking about how we should
-
use this gift for the edifying of the church. We're
-
gonna look at the next light. This is a list
-
of spiritual gifts. If you're wondering what in the world
-
is spiritual gift? Here you go, all right. Apostleship, prophecy, teaching, evangelism, exhortation,
-
discerning spirits, speaking in tongues, interpreting tongs, mercy, leadership, giving, faith, healing, miracles.
-
Where are these located in scripture? You can see for
-
the rest of chapter twelve. You will be listed. Okay,
-
the moment you accepted Jesus and the moment the Holy
-
Spirit has come upon you, you will have gifts. This
-
is promise, this is guaranteed. Okay, all of us have
-
different gifts. We don't have all of it. We have
-
some of it. But because we are a body of Christ,
-
we are all hall to contribute our gifts to one
-
another in the church, that we may support one another
-
and defy one another, serve one another. Take a moment
-
to think which one you may have. Okay, okay, John,
-
what do you think you have? I love this? Yeah?
-
I also have learned the test ifore leadership and discerning
-
of spirits. You agree, those who have worked with John,
-
I agree. I agree. For me, the discerning of spirit
-
is very true. Whenever I talk to John and we discussed,
-
I can really see that he has a gift of discernment, right,
-
And for me, that is not my primary gift. My
-
primary gift is actually faith. That means if God as
-
we do something, I'll just do it. Sometimes to the
-
detreatment of other people because they were, like you ever
-
prepared us? Yet I say no, God say so let's go.
-
Let's just do it, all right? So I actually lean
-
on John's gift of descentment. I'll talk to him sometimes
-
and say what do you think about this? John?
-
Uh? And?
-
And John is our assistancy PC, so I will lean
-
on his strength of this all right? Okay, Josiah, what
-
do you think you have? Also? One of our leaders
-
a worship coordinator, mercy and mercy and giving. Yeah. Agree,
-
Josiah being a very generous person in my intern I've
-
known him for years and it's true. He has a
-
heart for people, mercy and giving, very generous. Adrian is
-
another one there has a gift of mercy, I believe
-
west Adrian probably counting excids. Okay, so yeah, doing his
-
host role, he has also a gift of mercy. He
-
has a lot of compassion for people that I also like, Man,
-
I want to learn from you. He has that gift,
-
so I really lean on him on gifts on this give.
-
Sometimes I go like Adrian, I'm finding hard to connect
-
with this person. Can you help me out and go
-
and connect? And Adrian will do that. You'll go have lunch.
-
I know Josiah also does that very naturally. You'll meet
-
out with people, have lunch with people, and catch up
-
with people. All right, And that is right. There a
-
gift of mercy to help to encourage. Okay. And there
-
are actually tests out there to help you. Okay, so
-
you can go online. You can say it's there, Okay,
-
it's available. It may not be one hundred percent accurate, Okay.
-
It does not determine who you are. It's just gifts. Okay,
-
I just want to put it out there just because
-
you don't have the gift of mercy doesn't mean you
-
are a merciful person. Just want to put it out.
-
They're okay, you you can still have compassion or that.
-
It's just that some people have it more. They have
-
better I'm going to use a corporate word, more aptitude
-
for it, all right. That means they are more it's
-
more prevalent in them. They do it a lot easier. Okay.
-
But that does not mean you are unmerciful. You still are,
-
all right. It's just that the gifts, the gift things
-
show that they are better at it, uh than average. Okay.
-
So just a little fine for us, a little activity
-
for us, just for us to know, okay, what are
-
our gift things? And when you are failed again, when
-
you have received the Holy Spirit, you will have gifts.
-
It's guaranteed because it has been promised. It is biblical.
-
Even though it was said to the Corinthian Church. It
-
is not just for the Corinthian Church, because in other
-
letters you will see Paul addressing spiritual gifts still to
-
other churches. I believe in First Peter it was also addressed,
-
and First Peter was written by Peter. So it is
-
from this biblical understanding. You would know that it is
-
not just men for the quarantine church. It was meant
-
for the body of Christ, all of us. All right,
-
And again I want to remind us that the spiritual
-
gifts is not for us to keep. If you read
-
the Bible, every single gifting, spiritual gifting that God gives
-
us is always meant for other people, not of our
-
own glory or gain. It's meant to edify and help
-
one another. Pasa Kennev has this saying, all right. He
-
says that if everybody wants, nobody gets. But if everybody gives,
-
everybody gets. So as a church, can we be such
-
a church that we are not just here one thing things,
-
but we also hear the gift because that is actually
-
what the church is also about. And we're going to
-
look at a later x chapter two, how the church
-
came together in operation of the gifting of the of
-
the Holy Spirit. What they did? Okay, okay, So this
-
is spiritual gears. Are you okay? So are catching something? Okay?
-
Now with spiritual gears, there's another side that you can
-
also go and do a little test to find out,
-
is called the five fold ministries. How many of us
-
have heard of the five four ministries. Okay, uh, what
-
are the five four ministries? For those who have Do
-
you remember I love the loud it Today I didn't
-
take my ears, so I can't hear. Okay. Apostles, yes, profits, evangelists, teachers,
-
and pasts. Very good. Okay, we also okay, as we
-
talk about these, lets also see where it's mentioned in scripture. Okay,
-
efficients for eleven to thirteen. Okay, can flip up on
-
your Bible and go to ephicients for eleven to thirteen. Okay,
-
once your day there, say I'm here. Okay, Okay, Joe,
-
can I get your help to read this?
-
Amen?
-
Bless the reading of his word. Thanks Joe. When we
-
become a believer of Jesus, Christ gave some of us
-
to be apostles, some of us will be prophets, some
-
of us will be even list some of us to
-
be pastors, and some of us to be teachers. You
-
see that in Scripture all of us are accounted for
-
for this. It does not mean a person has to
-
be a pastor to have the gifting of all the
-
calling of a pastor. Okay. This is talking about the
-
heart and spirit of a person. Okay, it's not the position.
-
Of course, we try to feel it administrative and administratively
-
in those positions. But it's not necessarily that all of
-
us here, some of you, I'm gonna say it, some
-
of you are apostles, even though statistically apostles are the
-
least Have you ever wondered why? Okay, relat it for you?
-
Apostles are. Apostles are basically people who pave the way.
-
Can you imagine if everyone is an apostle, we'll all
-
be going different ways, all right, So statistically, globally in
-
the Christian body, apostles actually the least. All right. Pasa
-
Kenneth has apostolic gifting. That's why he can pioneer things
-
very fast, right. Can you imagine if all of us
-
we came operate as apostles, We'll all say something and
-
nobody is there to help, all right, So statistically, interestingly,
-
God has also made it that way. Some of you
-
here are prophets, even though you don't have a prophit title.
-
Some of you here are evangelists, even though some of
-
you don't have the evangelist title that goes around the
-
world organizing rallies and preaching in rallies. Some of you
-
here have the calling of you know already in the
-
five food ministry. Pastoral ministry is your ministry, even though
-
you don't have the title of a pastor. Some of
-
you here have you know, a teaching ministry even though
-
you're not a teacher. I'm my teachers are very simple.
-
I call these five fingers. It's not four fingers. In
-
case you're hungry, five fingers. Okay, I'm gonna teach us
-
how to remember the five foot ministry. Okay. The first
-
one is a postle. This to help us remember why,
-
because it touches all the other four apostles have to
-
work with all to make God's vision come to pass.
-
All right, help us remember, okay. The second one is profit. Why?
-
Profit points the way, points us back to God. This
-
for us to remember, okay. The third finger vengeance. Why, Yes,
-
it's the longest finger. I know some of us may
-
be the ring finger longer, but most the middle finger
-
is the longest. It means we event journies will reach
-
the furthest reach the most. Okay. The fourth one pastor
-
Why married to the church? Yes, all right? The pastor
-
h it souls in the church. Ala married to the church.
-
And the last one teacher, why it gets into your ear. Yeah,
-
I can remember. This will help us remember. Yeah, this
-
will help us remember ries all as well. Okay, this
-
will help us remember. Okay, five four ministry okay. And
-
I also want to tell us that this five fold
-
ministry is in the context of the church. It doesn't
-
mean you have this that means you have to go
-
out only, okay. It is also for the edifying of
-
the church, right for those of us. So for me,
-
I just share my gifting is actually my primary one
-
is teacher, the first one, my secondary one is actually
-
a prophecy profit, and these are my top two. There's
-
also a test that I've done a few times and
-
he has all pointed to this tool. Okay, and all
-
of us will have different results. Again, it does not
-
determine your position, okay, just because you see, I'm a pastor,
-
but my pastoral is not the highest Okay. So these
-
just tell you you don't need a title to operate
-
in your gifting and calling. Okay, you can still do it.
-
So some of us here again our teachers, some of
-
us here are profits, some of us here pastors, some
-
of us here. EVANGELI is very good and sharing the
-
gospel and bringing people, uh you know, to the gospel
-
some of us here? What do I miss up? Teachers, pasts?
-
I mentioned all right, past us Okay, yeah, So I
-
just want to share this and on one point, I'll
-
focus the first twelve. What there's the first twelve say
-
for the equipping of the saints? Who are the saints us?
-
The body of Christ? Again, if you have any doubt
-
what all this calling is for is for the Body
-
of Christ and the edification of Church. I have another question, Okay,
-
when do you operate in this giftings and callings? Is
-
it only for a season when we are a little
-
bit freer in our schedule, or when we are more
-
financially stable so we can travel more to evangelize more.
-
Let's look at verse thirteen. Worse the teen says this. Okay,
-
I'm trying to find Verse thirteen. Okay, Verse the teen
-
says this, till we all come to the unity of
-
the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God,
-
to a perfect man, to the measure of the statue
-
of the fullness of Christ. What does this mean. I'm
-
gonna be very blunder until we diere because we can
-
only become have to have the statue of the fullness
-
of Christ when we reach eternity, when we reach so
-
called perfection. We are very clear that we can never
-
reach perfection now because they's sin right, So let me
-
translate that for you. It means from now until we die,
-
you have to operate in these giftings. Not when you're
-
a bit freer, not when you're more available. It is now.
-
So if you ever prayed this prayer, God give me
-
a sign when it's time to serve, you don't need
-
a sign anymore. It is now. And I also want
-
to say, right, every time we encourage ourselves to serve,
-
we encourage you to serve. It's not so much for
-
the men power only. Of course, it will help those
-
of us who are serving, but that's not our primary desire.
-
We want you to leave in God's calling, God's will.
-
If you're not doing something of God's will, that means
-
you're in sort of a misalignment. And when you are
-
in misalignment, it's like a drain that is blocked. You're
-
blocking the blessings of God in your life. It's as
-
simple as that. When you don't alive fully God's will,
-
you are like having grease stuck in your bipe, the
-
water gets stuck. The floor is not all the way
-
and every time we ask yourself, because it is an
-
alignment with God's word and God blesses you. This is
-
not prosperity, godspel This is scripture, all right. So that
-
is an encouragement to us. The purpose of the power
-
of the Holy Spirit in our life. First point is
-
this is to serve the church. It's not ourselves. It's
-
not just for season, all right. This is and encouragement
-
to us. Can we take breaks heres? How many of
-
you here, those who have been serving her, You're coming
-
up to me and say, you know, blesses even can
-
I can I reask for this week? If I ever
-
say no, anyone I've never said no, rest is good.
-
Can restore and you don't have to serve every week.
-
But what I'm trying to say is, you know it's
-
not seasonal. Serving is not caeesonal. There's my encouragement to
-
you because that lies God's promise for you. When you
-
serve God in your gifting, in what God has given you,
-
the burthens that God has given you, in the call
-
that God has placed in your life. When you serve
-
in alignment to God's will. God will bless you, God
-
will sustain you. And such joy and fulfillment comes from
-
death that you'll be able to experience. All right, and
-
all of us see again, are accounted for for this.
-
You have gifts, right. It doesn't mean you are a
-
leader that God gives you the gifts. No, the moment
-
you have the Holy Spirit in you, you will have
-
the gifts. And it takes practice. Right. If you never
-
operate at all, you won't ever get to see the
-
fullness of your gifting. You're never able to see the
-
fullness of how God can use your gifting to be
-
an encouragement to others. Amen. Okay, so that's the first point. Okay,
-
I'm gonna go into the second point. Okay. The first
-
point is again reminder that with the power of the
-
Holy Spirit, the first purpose is to serve the Body
-
of Christ. This is the second point. With the purpose
-
and of the powerhole Spirit, we are to be witnesses
-
of Christ. So one is within the church, one is
-
outside the church to be witnesses. We're gonna look at
-
X chapter one, verse six to eight. Okay, We're gonna
-
flip open famous famous Scripture X, chapter one, verse six
-
to eight. Okay, anybody want to help read this anyone? Okay,
-
thanks grace, Thanks grace, our blessed reading of his word.
-
Jesus promised that the disciples will receive the power of
-
the Holy Spirit so that they can be witnesses. Again,
-
biblical studyer, that was what it was. The first thing
-
that's supposed to happen. It wasn't so that they may
-
be comforted by the death of the death of Jesus
-
so that they can do better in their career. No,
-
it's so that they can be witnesses. And you notice
-
that the disciples asked Jesus Lord, with the impression that
-
he will govern Israel, become king of Israel. But Jesus said, no,
-
I will go and the Holy spiritual come upon you,
-
that you may receive power, so that you may be
-
my witnesses. We have a call church, all of us.
-
We have a call. In next chapter two. You see
-
that right after that is the coming of the Holy Spirit.
-
And it did come to pass what Jesus said, all right.
-
When the Holy Spirit came the the disciples started to
-
do what you guys, remember, they started to what was
-
the first sign first thing that happened speaking tongues, and
-
not just the heavenly language. They spoke tongues of other languages.
-
That means the residence of the city, the people who
-
were there, they went out and they spoke in their language.
-
What is the purpose is to witness? Very good? Verse
-
eleven to get X chapter two, Verse eleven X. Chapter two,
-
Verse eleven says this both Jews and converts to Judaism,
-
Critans and Arabs, we hear them declaring the wonders of
-
God in our own tongues. They were declaring the wonders
-
of God. What does that mean? They are witnesses all right?
-
Verse twelve. They asked, whatever could this mean? These are
-
the people who hurt the disciples sharing right. Basically, they're saying,
-
why are they declaring the wonders of God? What's this fault?
-
What could this mean? Why is there such a fascinating
-
miracle that is happening. After this, you'll see that Peter
-
went to preach and explain what does this mean? Because
-
there are some people who say these people are drunkards,
-
they're high on the wrong spirit. But we all know
-
that it was the Holy Spirit. So then Peter addressed
-
This is where Peter preached his first sermon, and I
-
will encourage us to read it because if you ever
-
wondered how to share the Gospel, read this Peter's first sermon.
-
You give us the m or and firepower to share.
-
Peter preach that whoever caused the name of the Lord
-
shall be safe. Is in answer to the people asking
-
whatever could this mean? So Peter was saying, telling you all,
-
this is happening. We are declaring the wonders and works
-
of God so that you, all of you, if you
-
call upon the name of the Lord, you shall be saved.
-
What is that sharing of the gospel? Three thousand came
-
to the Lord that they and the Lord added to
-
their numbers daily. And this is encouragement to us, Expano Tama.
-
If we want to see our church grow, there are
-
two things we need to do right. Firstly, everyone has
-
got to serve the church. This is not my words.
-
Read X chapter two. They all came together, fellowship, broke,
-
break together, serve were one another, serve one another. Nobody
-
was in lack. Remember what we say about when everybody gives,
-
everybody gets. That was happening in X chapter two when
-
the Christians so called Christians came together, they were doing that.
-
That was the church. And my encouragement is this serve
-
the church because it is biblical, not because we say so,
-
not because we need the manpower. So that's the first point. Remember,
-
if we want to see God growing our church, first
-
thing is to serve the church. Everyone has to serve.
-
And secondly, everyone has got to be witnesses outside the church.
-
These two has to happen if you want the Lord
-
to add to our numbers daily. If you read the scripture,
-
that was the so called formula, right, that was what's happening,
-
and the Lord added and added and added. If simple equation,
-
if we are already have a limited mouth people serving,
-
do you think God will keep on adding hundreds upon
-
hundreds to us? Because it's pure logistic reason. We are
-
not able to feed everyone, we are not able to
-
minister to everyone. But if everyone serves, don't you think
-
we're able to meet every need? Where God brings people
-
through these doors, every tribe and tongue, we're able to
-
reach them. We're able to disciple because we all work
-
together to serve one another. So it's simple mathematics. God
-
won't give unto us if we ourselves have not been
-
faithful with what God has already given. If we are
-
not being good stewards. And that's the question that I
-
ask myself as well, being part of X bu am
-
I stewarding my team? Well are we serving God as
-
how God has intended? Right? The purpose for the power
-
I'm coming to an end purpose of the power of
-
the Holy Spirit. It's not just for him to be
-
our counselor like we talked about in the beginning, or
-
just comfort when we are said, or wise advisor when
-
we want to advance in our careers. The primary purpose
-
for the Holy Spirit's power upon our lives is to
-
empower us to firstly serve the church and secondly to
-
preach the gospel outside of the church. There is no
-
hierarchy in this. Both have to happen at the same time.
-
Both are equally important and in conclusion and coming to
-
an end before we can be entirely convinced. Maybe I'm
-
saying all this and you're like, ah, yeah, maybe it's
-
for me. Maybe it's not before we can be entirely
-
convinced of why even when we talked about going out
-
sharing gospel, why missions I don't bring our attention to
-
missions now because we it's missions emphasis month and we
-
only do this one month a year. But that does
-
not mean we only do missions one man a year
-
and we focus on missions one month a year. Missions
-
is our lifestyle. It is our call as believers. But
-
before we can be entirely convinced of why missions is important,
-
we need to first fully understand this Number one, is
-
missions work biblical? I'll leave it to you if your
-
answer is yes, if it is biblical. If you're saying yes,
-
I read it, and every time read it it confirms
-
that missions work is biblical. The missions is truth, and
-
we are called to live by truth. Secondly, are we
-
called to missions? Maybe it's a missionaries to job. Black
-
passa Stephen and he likes to go for missions to
-
very free. I goola, I don't need a lot of
-
things to do. Matthew twenty eight nineteen to twenty Go
-
there for and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing
-
them in the name of the Father and of the
-
Son of a Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all
-
things that I have comme under you and law. I
-
am with you always even to the end of the age. Amen.
-
Jesus's last words to every single believer. It's not just
-
for Peter, it was for every single believer. Are we
-
called to missions? Yes, every one of us. If you
-
call yourself a believer of Jesus, turn on. Is it
-
a urgent for us to answer the call? Maybe next time,
-
very busy missions next year after I retailer and fifty
-
fifty five. I'm gonna give you some statistics. This is
-
drawn from last year statistics I would at a missions
-
conference and this was presented. And this is just in Asia.
-
Just to let you know, just to give you a
-
quick stats. The laborers are really few. How few? I
-
give you the number and pass the man actually share this.
-
Four hundred and twenty nine thousand out of eight billion
-
of population. If you're thinking of numbers, it can't really
-
click in your hair. Now this is billion, okay. Look
-
at the amount of digits after that. Okay, four hundred
-
and twenty nine thousand. It's this, sire. You see the
-
differences in number now, and these just talking about the
-
majority faith in Asia, okay. And the numbers are dropping
-
more and more each day. If you look at all
-
the different what we call the unriched groups and not
-
accepted Gospel. I'll break this down very quickly for you.
-
This is the population or in the hundreds of thousands,
-
with the majority faith being the highest in Asia. You
-
have the unreligious right, you have the others, the tribals,
-
the Buddhists, percentage of world population. If you combine this,
-
are you a realizer? It's largely the most populated region
-
in the world is Asia. All of this you look
-
at a number of missionaries reaching out to these groups.
-
I don't know if this rings are lambells for you,
-
because the population is growing every day and our missionaries
-
are depleting ratio missionaries to the unreached. Basically, what this
-
means is one missionary has to reach how many people?
-
Look at those numbers one to sixty thousand one, two
-
hundred eighty thousand, one to seventy thousand, one to four
-
hundred thousand, one to two hundred thousand. I'm sharing this.
-
I don't know. Maybe some of you have a call
-
to be a full time missionary. Please answer the call?
-
All right, many of us here, Some of you may
-
not have the call to go for long term missions.
-
These we are talking about long term missions five years,
-
ten years, A right reaching the people groups really reaching them.
-
You may say probably, I don't think this is me,
-
but you know that we can help them out if
-
we reach the people around us, if we can commit
-
to going for one mission treat a year, three days,
-
four days. Some of us here have kids, understand, but
-
I think it'll be a pretty cool exposure for your
-
children to go and see you reaching the loss in
-
another place. Fourth thing, and I'm coming to an end.
-
Can I just do missions where I'm at? We love
-
to say this as a church, and I think we
-
need to be very careful now when we say this. Oh,
-
God has places to be the sort of light to
-
where we are at, so we reach the people. Are
-
sounds very right and very good, But do you know
-
that if that it was really just the plan of
-
God when x chapter one it says you shall receive
-
power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and
-
you shall be witnesses to meet in Jerusalem and in
-
all Judea and Samara and to the ends of the earth.
-
If that was really the plan for us to just
-
be the sortin light at where we're at, don't you
-
think it would have stopped at Jerusalem. But yet Jesus
-
says you shall be witnesses to meet in Jerusalem and
-
in all Judaea and Samarah and to the ends of
-
the earth. Someone's got to go right for that happened.
-
Being sort and light where God places us is very important.
-
I do not discount that, please do. But it requires
-
intention and not chance. Okay, I go God. If someone
-
talks to me and share a problem, then I shall
-
I help her. Even being sort and light requires an
-
intentional response from us. We have to decide today. I'm
-
going to talk to this colleague. Today. I'm going to
-
approach this person. Lord, you point to me the person
-
that you want me to talk to, and I'm actually
-
gonna take action and go and speak to this person.
-
I'm gonna actually buy lunch for this person. It requires intention.
-
But as a church, I've noticed a trend that we
-
say all these things, Ah, let's be a blessing where
-
we're at, but we leave it to chance and there's
-
no intention. We need to play a part. There will
-
never be a better time to serve or go to missions.
-
If that is your reason, I want to tell you this,
-
there will never be a better time. Every time God
-
prompts you to serve and to go it's always the
-
most inconvenient time. Do you realize that? I realized that
-
for myself. It is a pivotal part of our daily
-
Christian work to go for missions. If anyone has ever
-
told you no need to go for missions, just sur
-
where you're at, that is unbiblical. I want to tell
-
you this, There is a lie we have to go.
-
We may not be able to go long term, leave
-
our jobs and all that, I understand, but I believe
-
we can commit one mission trip a year to reach somebody.
-
God has not called us to be Christians so that
-
we can be marry in our own little circle. God
-
has called less to go and make disciples of all nations.
-
I want to share the story of the Baptism of
-
the Holy Spages very quickly. This was in two thousand
-
and fifteen. I was backsliding already from God, not really
-
participating in church serving and at that time I was
-
a leader youth leader, and at that time Logo Sop
-
came to Penang. I was in Penang. I went to
-
volunteer just a few days because I had free time.
-
But I thought that's it enough. But in one of
-
the nights I just felt led to worship got in
-
my room, so I just played. I didn't even play
-
guitar or I just played worship music. I said, remember
-
the song kind Sali Moo came on. I worship along,
-
and I felt the Holy Spirit walk into my room.
-
I had the burning Bush moment. And that was when
-
I had the baptism on the Holy Spirit now in church,
-
in my own room, and God spoke to me. I
-
was baptized in the Holy Spirit. I got the baptism
-
of the Holy Spirit then and then the first thing
-
that God asked me to do was to go for missions.
-
It wasn't just ah, slowly get back to church, uh,
-
maybe start serving school. And literally I went. Even though
-
I had plans. I missed my graduation as a valedictorian.
-
I had to give that up because God's sick. Go.
-
That was the first thing that God asked me to do.
-
I got baptized the Holy Spirit and it's alignment in
-
the scripture. With scripture, it gave me the understanding that
-
when we have the power of the Holy Spirit, it's
-
not men for us alone. It's men to serve His
-
body and to go and reach the unreached. I pray
-
that we will take courage today right Wesley when he
-
shared at homes recently, our latest homes, not his on missions,
-
and he said a very good thing that struck me.
-
We will always have reasons not to go, not to sir,
-
always inconvenient, always not enough time, not enough money. But
-
the question is no longer where you go, but where
-
you still go, where you still serve, regardless of a
-
situation and my record of going in for missions, I
-
tell you this every time when God asks me to go,
-
when I'm prompted to go somewhere, I at that point
-
I didn't have the money God provides, so we have
-
to respond first. Then God will supply. God will never
-
give you enough. Really, the only you go never. That's
-
where faith comes in. Amen.
