The sermon title for today is are you ready to stretch?

Are you ready to stretch? Okay? I think I need

to stretch after my half done this morning. Yeah, but

are we ready to stretch? Okay? Because stretching all of

us one. If you're hurt. The prayer of Jabez if

someone you all are familiar with it, the prayer of

Jabez is where you say, God, increase my territory, you know,

increase my influence, increase my But to increase all that,

it requires you to stretch. You know, we want the results,

but we are not willing to put in the work,

you know. So the title today is are you ready

to stretch? Okay? So to start this off next night,

I wanted to show you all this. So how many

of y'all know the story of Apollo eleven, the first

man to land on the moon Neil Armstrong? I think

buzz I'll rain I forgot the odther guy's name. Yeah yeah,

So anyway, I was I was watching this show on

one of the TV series, Uh, and that opened my

opened up my appreciation to this Apollo eleven mission, so

that that TV series was what if the Russians landed

on the Moon first, you know, and then they had

a whole multiverse of history and different things that happened.

But anyway, in nineteen sixty one, right, the President JF. Kennedy,

he issued a call. He said that by the end

of this decade, I want to place a man on

the Moon and bring him back safely. Okay, no big deal.

Right nineteen sixty one, there was no digital watches, There

was nothing. Everything was analoged. Okay. There was no handphones.

The biggest the computer that had the biggest memory was

one megabyte. Your photo now one click was more than

one megabyte. Right. They had no idea what was on

the moon? If your spaceship landed on the moon, would

it sink? What do they think? How would you get

people back up? You know? How would you write in space?

How would you simple things like even go to toilet,

you know, in the rocket? Everything had to be invented. Nothing.

They had no reference. They had no reference. All they

had was the mission statement by the President. I want

to send someone to the Moon and bring him back

safely by the end of the decade. And you know

what they did it. They did it. The people who

were in mission control where NASA was, the average age

of the people working there was twenty seven years old.

Twenty seven years old. So how did they go from

ninety sixty one where the statement I want to put

a man on the moon and bring him back safely

to nineteen sixty nine when they actually did it. They

had to increase their capacity. Everything had to be stretched.

You have to learn and relearn, and you have to

do things fail, keep on trying. They had to do

things that was never done before. It was impossible in

ninety sixty one, it's impossible, but they still manage to

do it. And this is man. So what more if

God gives you a calling, a man gives you a

calling and you make it and you can get it done.

What more God when he is doing it with you? Okay?

So capacity, there are three points which I want to

give you. First one is conviction, second one is cost,

and third one is the cause. Okay, So the first

one I'll go straight into it. Conviction. So when you

look in the mirror, right, what's your convictions? What do

you see? Handsome man? That's the way. So you got.

So what are our convictions? If you say you can,

you can. If you say you can't, you can't. Whether

you say you can or you can't, you are right.

Have you heard that saying? Where do you say you

can or you can't? You are right? So when God

gives you a calling, what's your conviction? Is it optional?

Or is it your conviction that, wow, if God says,

then it will be done? Or is your conviction that

God is God and I must submit to him? Or

suddenly I'm an athiest after I heard the calling, I

don't believe in God? Then you're like walk away? So

what is your conviction? Your conviction can be in who

God is. Your conviction can be whether God in you

can do above and beyond what you can ask or imagine.

With God, all things are possible. Is that your conviction?

We know all the songs, we sing all the songs,

but are we convinced? Because if not, just a song,

might as well go to a karaoke right? If not,

what's your conviction? So let's see the verse that I

want to take it from. So numbers thirteen. So this

is the twelve Spies. I think you all know the

story of the twelve spies. The ten who were against

going to the Promised land, and two were four. Okay,

So Caleb tried to quiet the people as they stood

before Moses. Let's go at once to take the land.

He said, we can certainly conquer it. But the other

men who will explored the land with him disagreed. We

can't go up against them. They are stronger than we are,

so they spread this bad report about the land among

the Israelites. The land we travel through and explored will

devour anyone who goes to live there. All the people

we saw were huge. We even saw giants there, the

descendants of honor, and next to them we felt like grasshoppers.

And that's what they taught too. Okay. So this is

after they came back from the Promised Land. It was

the land of milk and honey. But ten of them

had different convictions. Ten of them God is not big

enough for us to take the Promised land. Only two

of them were convinced that God plus us is more

than enough. Only two were convinced. So if you look

at this right, it's easier. They are stronger than we are,

so they spread this bad report again. When God gives

us a calling. Sometimes we miss the point and think

that we have to do it on our own strength.

God will never lead us to a place where we

are less dependent on him. We will always need to

be more and more dependent on Him. And that's how

He brings us from from Egypt to the Promised Land. Okay,

so they thought first of all, they thought they had

to do it on their own strength. Okay. And if

we look here the descendants of Anna. You know who

is a descendant who was one of the most famous

descendants of Anna in the Bible, Goliath. So it's true

they were facing giants. Okay, they were facing giants. But

how come Caleb said, no problem? So he says he

a right. We even saw giants there, the descendants of

Anna next to them, We felt like grasshoppers. And that's

what they taught too. How in the world would they

know what they thought? How the world can they make

that assumption that when they look at the Israelites, that

they think that they are grasshoppers, these descendants of Anna,

right when they knew who they were dealing with. This

is the same people who God delivered from Egypt, who

brought them through the Red Sea, who killed off Pharaoh's

army and is now knocking at their doorstep. How do

you think they would feel? They would be shivering in

their boots. But then the Israelites missed the point. They

thought that, Hey, they think that we are gross, and

that's how they think also, So sometimes our assumptions are

the ones that hinder us from God's blessing. What are

we assuming? What are what are our convictions? Do you

know this happened the coming out of Egypt?

Right?

They were saying, right from Egypt to the Promised Land?

Did it really take forty years in terms of distance? No,

I think they what happened was from Egypt to the

Promised Land. It will only take two weeks. Well, what

happened they keep on recalculating because they put their faith

in man instead of God, and God had to because

of their unbelief. They were stuck in the wilderness, and

only Caleb and Joshua made it to the Promised Land.

So when God God gave all of them one million

Israelites the calling, only two of them were courageous enough

to receive their calling and walk into it. So sometimes

when God gives us a calling, we ignore it because

we think it's too big or too difficult. And then

we ask God, why are you not speaking to me?

He said, I spoke already. I called you, I told

you what to do. You you ignore, and then you're

asking me for another calling. It doesn't work that way.

God's calling for your life. You have to step into it. Yeah.

Next slide, so numbers fourteen. Two of the men who

had explored the land, Joe show us, son of None

and son of Japuna, taught their clothing. They said, to

all the people of Israel, the land we travel through

and explored is a wonderful land. And if the Lord

is pleased with us, he will bring us safely into

the land and give it to us. It is a land.

It is a rich land, flowing with milk and honey.

Do not rebel against the Lord. Don't be afraid of

the people of the land. They are only helpless. Pray

to us. They have no protection, but the Lord is

with us. Don't be afraid of them. Can you see

that the convictions of the two were so different from

the convictions of the ten, although they saw the same thing.

Although they saw the same thing, You see right the

first and if the Lord is pleased with us. Who

is the one that sent them to count the land?

First of all God, God says that for example, God says, hey,

this is the land I want you to take. I'm

going to have a look first you go there. It's

a land filled with murk and honey. The one no

doubt because the the ten or so they cut the

grapes and they brought it. It was really a foot

full land that one's no doubt. But they were not

willing to They were more afraid of the people of

the land then they were afraid of rebelling against God.

Are you more afraid of people then you are afraid

of God? Because that's what there is. Realize they were

more afraid of people, what will people say? What will

this person think of me? What will this person say

of me? Rather than what will God want me to do?

So you can see Joshua and Caleb right for them

right the only fear they had was the fear of

the Lord. Your conviction is do you have the fear

of the Lord. When you have the fear of the

Lord is the beginning of courage. You know, that's when

you get the courage and say, hey, God plus me,

all things are possible, especially when it's God's will for you. Okay,

so what do we need to do to change our convictions?

You know what, there's the Bibles. So let's go into

the next verse Romans twelve and so, dear brothers and sisters,

I plead with you to give your bodies to God

because of all He has done for you. Let them

be a living and holy sacrifice, the kind He will

find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.

Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but

let God transform you into a new person by changing

the way you think. Then you will learn to know

God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

Sometimes right not sometimes, Most of the times, God's plan

for us is in conflict with what the world says

is possible. Because right with God, all things are possible.

But the plans and the custom the behavior and the

customs of the world will be saying that put yourself first.

It's about your comfort, you know, you see every ad

that is posted right, it's about how to make your

life better. It's about you. But God's plan for us

is bigger than just our comfort. God is never just

interested in our comfort. He would rather put us in

discomfort so that we can achieve our calling. Our calling

is much more important than our comfort. But the customs

of this world is put comfort first. If it's not comfortable,

then it's If it's not comfortable, then it's not from God.

You know you'll be saying, because sometimes we think that, oh,

only when it's comfortable, then it's from God. I got

the favor from God. We mistake the favor of God

as comfort. So sometimes we have to really test and

see what are our convictions. If our convictions is based

on the fear of the Lord, let us not rebel

against the Lord. Then whatever he tells us to do,

we will do it. Is it scary, of course it's scary.

Is it tough? Of course it's tough. But God will

go with us if it is his call for our lives.

He has a plan and purpose for us. Okay, So

you see here right, transform you into a new person

by changing the way you think. How do you change

your convictions? This is it. I have to change the

way you think. Let God transform you into a new

person by changing the way you think. If we fill

ourselves with Facebook, Facebook will determine how we think. If

we feel our mind with the word of God, then

the word of God will determine how we think. So

what are we filling ourselves with? We should not feel ourselves?

What is the popular thing to do? Sometimes when we

have God's call for our life, we go around asking

everybody else and what should I do? What you? What

you do? And some well meaning people may only be

able to advise just based on their experience, but they

do not know God's call for you. So are we

seeking God or are we seeking men? To determine? What

do we do? Without calling? If God gives you the call,

who should you ask? A direction from God? Right? It

doesn't make sense for us to ask the call from men.

God asked me to go to Africa. If you ask

everybody else, people say, why would you want to live

your well paying job? You've got family here, you got

this responsibility. Do you know that you are on your

way to be promoted to partner in the company? Why

would you want to do this? Are you sure it's God?

What happens? Then all those is in alignment with comfort,

all the advice given by men, If it's not in

alignment with God's will, it's all with comfort. But then

when we see God. Sometimes it doesn't make sense, that's why.

But God asks us to have faith, and we have

to have faith when we are convinced that He is

God and we are not. That's the only way. Okay.

So that's the point one. Next line, strong convictions proceed

great actions. You don't have strong convictions, don't expect to

do great things, because once you have strong convictions, which

are in alignment with God's will, you can do great things.

A lot of times we want to do great things,

but we do not have strong convictions. We just like think, okay, hey,

how come this person was so successful or he's able

here he knows God's calling for his life and stuff

like that, which leads me to my second point. Okay,

next cost. Once we have our convictions, right, we have

to know it's going to cost us. It's gonna cost us. Okay,

so let me take us to another uh oh, my

life for timer. It's like, right, so Joseph. This is

the story of Joseph. Right, so you know this story.

I think we have done The Tailor Made Man before.

If you're in acts so long ago, you remember the

play The Tailor Made Man. From Prison to the Prime minister,

you know, so this is it. Joseph, a young man

of seventeen, was tending the flocks with his brothers, the

son of Bilhah and the sons of Zilpah and his wife,

his father's wives, and he brought their father a bad

report about them. Okay, Joseph was not a very likable person.

Did you know that at seventeen years old? He was

not a very likable person. He's what you call it

tell tale anything the brothers do, you're going to tell See,

this is all in the Bible. I know it's how

we read it. Sometimes you gloss over it. But there's

important things that we wanted that God. There is no

mistake that this is put there in the Bible. Okay,

just remember that his brother said to him, then I

skipped the words. His brother said to him, do you

intend to rain over us? Will you actually rule us?

And they hated him all the more because of his

dream and what he said. So he shared the dream.

They hated him. Then he didn't get the he didn't

get a memoa. Okay, he had another dream, and he

told you to his brothers. Listen, he said, I had

another dream, and this time the sun and the moon

and the eleven stars were bowing down to me. So

he's like, arrogant prick, He's like, is this Joseph? You know,

this is what the Bible says.

You know.

This was him at seventeen Okay, And then you know

we first toward the story. You know, the brothers wanted

to kill him. They sold him to the slave trader,

and then he was landed, bought by Potifar. So he

landed in Potiphar's house. Okay, So let's go to the

next verse. So this is in Potiphar's house Genesis thirty nine.

The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a successful man.

He was in the house of his master, the Egyptian,

and his master saw that the Lord was with him,

and that the Lord made all that he do prospered

in his hand. So Joseph found favor in his sight

and served him. Then he made him overseer of his

house and all that he had put under his authority.

So it was from the time that he had made

him overseer of his house and all that he had had,

that the Lord blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake,

and the blessing of the Lord was on all that

he had in the house and in the field. Thus

he left all that he had in Joseph's hand, and

he did not know what he had except for the

bread which he ate. So this ride was amazing. Can

you imagine that your boss, if you're working, your boss

has complete trust over you. That means, right, he doesn't

know anything that's happening in the company except the braid

that he's putting into his mouth. That was the amount

of trust that he put onto a slave Joseph. Yeah,

then we fast forward. He went into prison right next

So Joseph's master took him and put him into the prison,

a place where the king's prisoners were confined, and he

was there in the prison. But the Lord was with

Joseph and showed him mercy, and he gave him favor

in the sight of the keeper of the prison, And

the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph's hand all

the prisoners who were in the prison whatever they did,

that it was his doing. The keeper of the prison

did not look into anything that was under Joseph's authority

because the Lord was with him, and whatever he did,

the Lord made it prosper you can see right, the

team is the same. The warden gave Joseph full authority

over everything, because everything that Joseph did prospered. Okay, Then

we fast forward and he finally ended up in Pharaoh's courts. Okay,

so go to the next verse. So this was after

the dream. Joseph interpreted the dream, and then Pharaoh said

to his servants, can we find some one such a

one as this, a man in whom is the spirit

of God? Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, inasmuch as God

has shown you all this, there is no one as

discerning and as wise as you. You shall be over

my house, and all my people shall be ruled to

your word. Only in regard to the throne will I

be greater than you. And Pharaoh said to Joseph, see,

I've set you all, set you over all the land

of Egypt. Joseph was thirty years old when he stood

before Pharaoh, king of Egypt. Okay, so there are a

few questions that I want to Since you all know

the Bible so well, right, you'll read this story like

you know you can tell it. Okay. How long did

Joseph take to go from his father's house to the

palace thirteen years? Thirteen years. It took him thirteen years, okay,

And can you imagine put yourself in the shoes of

somebody that was in Pharaoh's court. If you were there

and you see that Pharaoh appointed Joseph as the prime minister,

second only to him, what would go through your mind?

What would go through your mind? Doubt so? Or you'll

be like, okay, now jealous, You'll be like, whoa this guy?

Overnight's success? Who's this guy? What's his qualifications? What does

he know? How come a prisoner can suddenly become the

prime minister? Didn't you ask these questions? Right? If you

were in the court, right, you'll be asking these questions.

But what do you think Joseph was then qualified? Not?

Actually right? It took thirteen years from Joseph to answer

the call. You can see his convictions were very clear.

When he was in Portifa's house, he still did his best.

He still put God first and honored God in everything

that he did, and the Lord prospered the work of

his hand. He was then thrown into prison, he still

did his best, He still put God first, and God

prospered the work of his hand. And then when he

went into Piros Palace, he still put God first, and

God prospered the work of his hands. Can you see

his convictions didn't change. But you see it right at seventeen,

If he became prime minister at seventeen, it would be

a problematic prime minister, right and sometimes right, God has

to mold us. So I give you a bit more

if you go back too. Slides next light. Yeah, okay,

So Joseph's was tasked to tackle the biggest famine the

world had ever seen. What qualifications did he need? What

vacations he needed to know? Agriculture? Right? Can you see

here in Portifa's house. First of all, his master was

an Egyptian, so he learned all the ways of the Egyptians.

He knew all the ways of the Egyptians, the way

of working their culture, their tradition. Right and then right,

if you look at the one highlighted at the bottom, right,

the blessing of the Lord was on all that he

had in the house and in the field. So Joseph

was actually very talented in the field as well, agriculture. Really,

he was probably a guru. He was so good that

Portifar didn't have to care about anything at at all?

Where did he learn ag culture in partifars house? Where

did he learn the traditions of the Egyptians the culture

in party fas house? Then you ended up in prison, right,

so what do you learn in prison? Next line? What

do you learn in prison? To be a prime minister,

second to the second to Pharaoh, you must learn to

lead a country. If you can lead the worst of

the worst in prison and get the utmost respect and

transform the prison into a place that is so successful,

don't you think that your leadership skills are fantastic? So

you see, right, when God gives us the calling, we

have to pay the price. It didn't come overnight. There

is no overnight success. There's no overnight success. You all

know the story of the Angry Birds, right the game.

A lot of people they thought it was an overnight success. Wow,

this this game created. They just came out with this

thing and then overnight success. But they had so much

of failures before that, which ultimately led them to this

successful game. If not right, you'll be a one hit wonder.

But you can see for Joseph, when we count the cost,

we know it's going to cost us, but we still

have our convictions clear that God is God and we

are not, then God will use us all right, So

next slide, So no pain, no gain? You know pain,

you know gain you go to the gym. Got no pain?

Confirm no muscle, confirm no muscle. I can tell you.

I tell you my legs now are aching. I'm praying

and declaring. This going to be gains. So the thing is,

if we know this for the physical, why are we

worried in the spiritual? If we are spiritually it's hurting

us spiritually like it's uncomfortable. Why are we afraid of discomfort?

This comfort, especially in alignment. God's will helps us to

grow when we are willing to have our convictions clear.

We paid the price, you get games. All of us

wont the gains, but we're not willing to pay the price.

So how you take steroids, you take things that were

like probably harm you harm, you de riment to yourself.

You know, there's no shortcuts, there's no overnight success. God

way is you trust the process? Okay? And so now

is my last point. Cause so like what I mentioned earlier,

right in this world, everything is about us. I my comfort,

my everything is about me. But in God's way. It's different.

There is a cause. Okay, so I will go into

the verse. So there's a typo here. Right, he's supposed

to be John sixth, he said on Mark six when

Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him,

he said to Philip, where shall we buy bread for

these people to eat? He asked this only to test him,

for he had already in mind what he was going

to do. Philip asked him it would take more than

a half year's wages to buy enough bread for each

one to have a bite. Another of his disciples, Andrew Simon,

Peters's brother, spoke up, here is a boy with five

small barley loaves and two small fish. But how far

among these will go? How far will they go among

so many? Okay, we'll stop here so we know this

story again, very familiar story. And you see, right, Jesus,

he said, where shall we buy bread? He didn't say

where shall you wh where? He guys, where you're gonna

get a bread? Said where shall we? When God gives

us a calling, it's always we us and God. But

how did Philip respond? It would take more than a

half year's wages to buy enough bread for each one

to have a bite. Philip missed the WII. He was

thinking that, hey, if it's up to me, it's gonna

take ages. I can't do it. It's impossible. But he

missed the point. It was ially we God, Jesus and

the disciples, okay, And then he says a Simon Peter right,

brothers spoke up. Here is a boy with five small

baldy loads and two small fish. But how far will

they go among so many? So at least the boy

came up with five bally loaves and two fish. Okay,

do you think in the crowd of five thousand there's

only five bally loafs and two fish? Huh? I think

there should be more. But this boy was the only

one willing to surrender everything to God. And what happened

next line. Jesus said, have the people sit down. There

were plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down.

About five thousand men were there. Jesus then took the loaves,

gave tanks, and distributed to those who were seated as

much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish.

When they had all had enough to eat, he said

to his disciples gathered the pieces that are left over.

Let nothing be wasted. So they gathered them and filled

twelve baskets with pieces of the five bally loafs left

over by those who had eaten. Can you see, right,

when we surrender everything that we have to God, God

is no man's debtor. He will bless us above and

beyond what we could ever ask or imagine. So there

was there was quite an interesting question that came across

when when reading this. Who did Jesus perform the miracle?

For most of the time we think it's the five thousand,

But actually the five thousands they'll know, they just mcannie.

The ones that knew were only the disciples. So Jesus

did the miracle for the disciples. When we are in

partnership with God, God will come true as long as

we are in submission to Him. And you see, right,

when we submit ourselves to God, he will bless us

and we can be a blessing to so many more.

So God doesn't bless us just so that we are blessed.

God blesses us to be a blessing. So the cause

is when God, you're asking God to bless you, it

is so that we can bring others around to know

the love of Christ. Okay, so the three points. First

of all, you have to get your conviction correct. Then

you know it's going to cost you, but it will

be worth it. And when we do it, we will

be not only ourselves be blessed, but we will be

a blessing to so many more. So, even as I

dropped to as a close right, I wanted to just

play a video to just start off, summarize what stretching

of capacity looks like.

What is it?

If you can see from this video right, and it's

thought most of us. If God asks us to stretch,

they'll say we can't do it. And whose voice are

we listening to? Are we listening to the voice of God?

Are we are listening to our own inner self of

self defeat, listening to the voice of the world saying

that it can't be done, it shouldn't be done. But

God has given us a calling, each and every one

of us. God has given us the talent, the ability,

the calling to do what He has called us to do.

And it is for a bigger cause that all may know,

that all may know. So if we don't do it,

and who will know? If we are not willing to

pay the price, then who will know? What are our convictions?

Are we willing to pay the price because we know

it is for a bigger purpose than ourselves.
