  1. You're listening to a message to go from axt church.

  2. We hope this message will light up your day.

  3. Today's message is on breaking free from self bracket e Okay,

  4. selfie Okay, Now it will make more sense at the

  5. end of the of the message. Okay, okay. So everybody

  6. remember the time before selfies were a thing. Right for

  7. those new people, maybe you don't understand this, lab but

  8. when I was growing up, you know, selfie is not

  9. something that we do in fact, uh, And I had

  10. some privilege to travel when I was younger, uh, you know,

  11. to some places outside of Malaysia. And normally when you travel,

  12. this is the pre mobile phone days where you use

  13. the traditional camera. We will normally take photographs off the

  14. place that you visit. Okay, let's say a beautiful scenery,

  15. you know. Uh, you know I went to Disneyland as well.

  16. So I was, you know, at that age, teenager, much

  17. of the teenager by the way, not like how some

  18. of our kids are a bit more privileged. This is

  19. to travel a bit further. But yeah, it was very

  20. magical and then we just took a lot of photographs

  21. and if you look at those photographs in that era's

  22. usually off the place and maybe maybe maybe maybe some

  23. photos of the family member or friends, you know, uh

  24. in front of that you know that that that that photograph.

  25. But it's not a selfie, Okay, why because the cameras

  26. during that time don't film film, right, so you take

  27. you don't know what you're taking. Nobody has that gen

  28. z kind of thing last time, right, It's almost impossible

  29. with the traditional film camera and it's also probably bulky

  30. and heavy, et cetera. Okay, so selfie is a new

  31. kind of a thing that that that that that is

  32. invented I think in the last maybe the last uh

  33. decade or so, maybe even longer because since uh, social

  34. media is sort of a birth okay. And also remember

  35. one thing when I was younger again suggests about this,

  36. I wanted to find a photograph, but I didn't mention

  37. time to get it. But I also it's a habit

  38. of like whenever my parents take photograph of me, I

  39. will turn away very naughty and I'll do these sad things.

  40. And half my photographs in my family when we travel

  41. is me doing things like that. So background definitely not selfie,

  42. uh and sort of wasting a lot of film and

  43. film back then is quite expensive. Okay, and we do that, right,

  44. we do that when we try not not do that,

  45. that whole turning away thing. But we do that when

  46. we go around nowadays. You know, you see a beautiful coastline,

  47. a beautiful beach. You know when you hike, et cetera. Again,

  48. first thing you do more probably not like that. You'll

  49. probably do this. But why do you think we do that?

  50. Because we want to include ourselves and also probad the people,

  51. uh you know that they were traveling with, and also

  52. the background, everybody all inclusive. Okay, that that is a

  53. general thing. Okay. Let's look at bypically where selfie has

  54. come about. Okay, uh, in a bit, now, the Bible

  55. actually talks about selfies to the next dent. Okay, let's

  56. look at scriptures second Timothy over here, chapter three Versus

  57. one to five. But mark this. There will be terrible

  58. times in the last days. Okay, this is the last

  59. days and end days. People will be lovers of selfies.

  60. Is it selfie? No? No, it doesn't say self e. Okay,

  61. selfies themselves lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, this obedient

  62. to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera,

  63. et cetera, et cetera. Okay, so you get the idea, okay.

  64. And this is Paul warning us that in the last

  65. days the world is going to be very self centered,

  66. self oriented, very selfie, kind of driven yourself first before

  67. anything else. Okay. And this is a warning. And it's

  68. not just you know, it's very specific. Is the church

  69. in the church that we people who are lovers of self? No,

  70. we're talking about the general non church people. The church

  71. itself is going to be lovers of self. Okay. And

  72. this is a warning, and it's really bad. Okay. When

  73. I was younger, I still remember when I learned the

  74. word narcissistic or narcissism. I was like, well, does thiscus

  75. a cool word? Such a mouthful? Right? And we used

  76. to say that, right when you take a photo of

  77. yourself or you look in the mirror like this guy, right, naissistic? Right,

  78. But today we don't call it that anymore. We call

  79. it Instagram. Right. Half your Instagram pictures is usually of yourself.

  80. In reality, you check it out, check your feet. You'll

  81. mainly be yourself, or it might be your friends or

  82. your spouse posting on you, but generally about eighty ninety

  83. percent of it is really about yourself and maybe people

  84. around you. Okay, because why you want to highlight you know,

  85. what's happening in your life. You want to documented Okay,

  86. and again jokes aside. One parent says that it's becoming

  87. very normal now to focus on oneself more than the others.

  88. And again the Bible wants us about this. In the scripture,

  89. Segger just read that self focus can really creep in

  90. if you do you're not careful about it. Moving from

  91. self fiekay, just talking about being focused on self. It

  92. can creep in if you're not careful about it. And honestly,

  93. if I ask you a question right now, how many

  94. of you come to church today thinking about somebody else

  95. instead of yourself? Let's be honest. When you walked in

  96. through those doors, what do you anticipate. Are you thinking, oh,

  97. let's just see whether today I will receive something? Or

  98. are you thinking about what somebody else will receive? Being honest, okay,

  99. most of the time, you're fine. If you're really, really honest,

  100. eighty ninety percent of the time is really what is

  101. it in for me? Even in the church perspective. Kay,

  102. And you know you may thinking, you know, where we'll

  103. be sitting today? Who are messing with? Who am I

  104. sitting with? Not who is the person? Maybe there's new

  105. sitting where who's with next? Too? Is it my favorite

  106. chairperson that's gonna be speaking today to be sharing today

  107. about you know, sharing this the session today? Uh? Is

  108. the speaker going to be sharing something that is going

  109. to be for me today? Is it gonna be relevant?

  110. It's gonna be good for me? Not good for my neighbor? Okay? Uh?

  111. Is the worship leader gonna be singing songs that I

  112. actually enjoy today? Are the carols really the carols that

  113. I want to sing today? You know? It's all about

  114. self And that's just being very very honest, again, being

  115. very very honest. We are on selfie mode most of

  116. the time. Okay, just being very honest. And again here

  117. Bible tells us you're just gonna be very careful because

  118. that needs fixing. Okay, what I mean by fixing? The

  119. last two weeks ago I came and I spoke a

  120. little bit about you know, purpose driven life, about you know,

  121. answering your calling. A lot of these things, right, doesn't

  122. involve cel phone if you remember, okay, but you haven't

  123. go and catch it. But what am I trying to

  124. say here is that we need to stop focusing on

  125. oneself or ourselves. But really, instead of asking how can

  126. you help me? Or how can the church help me?

  127. Or how can every everybody else help me? How can

  128. I help you? How can I move away from self? Fee?

  129. But moving outside of just within my realm? Okay? And

  130. that is the greater purpose, because that's why God just

  131. just I guess biblicalarly has sort of mentioned you can

  132. break careful of this otherwise you'll all lose it. No

  133. matter what we do, you think about it, it will

  134. never be enough. When you are a consumer, right, you

  135. always think about itself. You come, you re see something,

  136. you go back, hungry again, you come back. It keeps

  137. going on and on and on and on and on.

  138. If you are busy enough to focus on others, maybe

  139. perhaps you also not to be so hungry to the

  140. next tent. Okay. And sometimes you always wonder why is

  141. it that in the last few years, for those who

  142. who come to church for quite some times, what you

  143. still feel hungry? Maybe perhaps you have also been in

  144. the consumerism pathway that you are focused more on oneself

  145. yourself then what you can do to bless others. And

  146. we all know this, right, We're called to be a blessing,

  147. but sometimes we're also guilty of not exercising that. In fact,

  148. we are more focused on how others who blesses. Okay,

  149. every okay, so far okay, So I want to show

  150. you an approach and the method, a very practical way

  151. of how to not have a selfie kind of lifestyle.

  152. Start with your phone. If you look at selfie mode

  153. right right, like this, you can see yourself right, no

  154. matter how right. There is here a special button down here.

  155. Now see this button that is going out of selfie.

  156. And if you do that, no matter how you look,

  157. you can't see yourself. No matter how you look, you

  158. can't see yourself. I'm using a simple analogy here. Okay,

  159. no matter how you look, you can't see yourself unless

  160. you use somebody else's phone to mirror that image. Again,

  161. there's IM trying to say. You can get out selfie

  162. mode if you choose to, even in the phone. Okay,

  163. So if you do not do that, talk to your

  164. neighbor ask them how to do it. For those of

  165. you who don't have mobile phones, I'm so sorry, but yeah,

  166. I hope you understand whe I'm coming from. Okay, that's

  167. the secret and want to share with you when we

  168. stop staring at ourselves and start staring at something beyond ourselves.

  169. If if you can't catch that, it's like I want

  170. you to stare at God, okay, because if you look

  171. at your phone, you're actually looking outside, looking further away,

  172. looking at God. The perspective true God's eyes. That not true.

  173. What you see again, origin design before selfie was created

  174. is always like this. You're always looking out admiring the beauty. Right,

  175. But somehow along the way, men being men, we started

  176. to admire ourselves and then the beauty is the background.

  177. But it's not meant to be right, it's not meant

  178. to be okay, So let's get out of this mode now,

  179. let us carry on. Some twenty seven. This is the

  180. secret to joyer. Fixing our eyes on God is why

  181. I wrote down here. I know it's very counterintuitive, but

  182. this is what the Bible says. Okay. Some twenty seven reads.

  183. One thing I ask from the Lord. This only do

  184. I seek that I may dwell in the house of

  185. the Lord. All my days to do what to gaze

  186. on the beauty of the Lord. Gaze is to look

  187. all right in case you don't understand what it is,

  188. and to seek him in his temple. So you see,

  189. even in design right when we want to uh, you know,

  190. we want to seek God, it is always to really

  191. gaze at Him, at what it gains, at his beauty.

  192. And that is how you can move away from the

  193. very self inward looking perspective, getting our self remote, to

  194. then look at some but something beyond, look at what,

  195. look at the beauty, the beauty of the Lord. Okay,

  196. but I think in this generation, like I said, we

  197. have lost it. We are more often than not looking

  198. like I said, what what I can do? Even in

  199. the way we take post social media posts and all

  200. that kind of thing, what is it? What is it

  201. in for me? And that's why sometimes we wonder why

  202. we why, why aren't we fulfilled? Maybe it's because we've

  203. always been inward looking. Okay, Now, when you say the

  204. Lord's prayer, everyone knows lots prayer. What does it say, Hello,

  205. be thy name the kingdom, Come y'are my y'all right,

  206. y'all will be done by Selfie Moode. It's always mine,

  207. will be done my what was in for me? Right? Okay?

  208. So and if you think about it, just reading that

  209. that will be done on earth here right now, as

  210. it is in heaven, all right, it means we mirror

  211. or we replicate. What is it to do in heaven?

  212. It is to do in heaven. Now. I know today

  213. it's a bit different because usually family and there I

  214. do a very simple message. But I felt there's a

  215. bit of urgency about this. So I'm so sorry. Kids, Uh,

  216. you gotta catch catch alonga but I think it's very

  217. important and crucial. Okay. Now, let's look at heaven. A

  218. glimpse of heaven, right, what was it like? Okay, let's

  219. go to revelation. Oh, revelation. This is what I said

  220. I want the kids today. Revelation is coming up. Okay,

  221. chapter five. Let's look at this so far. Okay, let's look. Okay,

  222. Levana and I looked and heard a voice of many

  223. angels numbering thousands upon thousands, ten thousand times ten thousand.

  224. Basically a lot layah, a lot, a lot they all,

  225. and the angels they encircled the throne, living creatures and

  226. the elders. In a loud voice. They were saying, worthy

  227. is the Lamb who was slain, Okay, to receive power

  228. and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory

  229. and praise. Then I heard every creature in heaven, every

  230. it means all. Not one of the thousands and thousands,

  231. thousands were distracted all all where was I. All of

  232. them were saying to him who sits on the throne

  233. and to the Lamb to sorry be praise and honor

  234. and glory and power forever and ever. Okay, this is

  235. a picture of heaven. Aren't we all trying to go

  236. to heaven anyway? Eventually there's our aspirations. Right when they

  237. get there, you get this, no selfimote. Did you know?

  238. It's all looking out? And yet here we are so

  239. focused on something else? Right, right? And this what's going

  240. on in heaven. People are coming up to God and

  241. say look, and if you see beauty, right, you would

  242. not look at yourself. And usually you think about it,

  243. if you see one of the seven oners in the world,

  244. you're not look at your phone, n right. If you

  245. see this in there as a kid, you wouldn't look that.

  246. You look up at the you know whatever. Right, So again,

  247. if we look at ourselves, it's because maybe perhaps we

  248. we miss the beauty, we miss what God, God's picture

  249. is upon our lives. We just totally missed the point. Okay,

  250. we are not supposed to be staring at Him all

  251. the time, all the time, all all, not just once,

  252. or to say that God, you are worthy. God, you

  253. are worthy of it, all right. You deserve all attention,

  254. You deserve all the glory. Okay. And again I guess

  255. we we we you know, if you are to mirror Heaven,

  256. we are to then practice this all the time. Okay.

  257. And and and if you think about it, someone that

  258. you enjoy, someone that you love, you de face a

  259. little bit more staring on. It's only natural you willn't

  260. look away, Okay. If you're attracted to somebody, you will

  261. look at that person. Correct. So if we stop staring

  262. at God, would that also mean that maybe perhaps you've

  263. lost something, You have lost that maybe that first leve Okay,

  264. maybe you've lost it. And then you are wondering again

  265. why a we're feeling so miserable is perhaps because again

  266. we are focused on our problems. We're focused on our

  267. own doing and we've focused on the bigger picture and

  268. the greater picture and the beauty as we've just read earlier. Okay,

  269. so what am I trying to say here is this

  270. is an open invitation really to shift our focus from

  271. ourselves to what God has installed for us and from

  272. the perspective of God. And if you're not careful, as

  273. we've read in the first verse, you will naturally tend

  274. to do the self eating all the time. Okay, Now

  275. you also know this scripture quite well. Some of us

  276. have read about spiritual gifts. You all know that, right,

  277. we're all blessed, right, everybody. How many gifts do you have?

  278. At least one is bibigal at least one somewhere more? Now,

  279. from a perspective for a gift, right, what are gifts

  280. for two to give away? Right? If you have a

  281. gift and you don't give it away, then it's not

  282. really called a present or a gift anymore. Thing about it?

  283. Christmas party, you go to a company Christmas thing, you

  284. bring a gift, and you go better the gift. What's

  285. the point of gift? Right? What's the point of the gift? Right? So,

  286. but sometimes we're like this, we are blessed with something.

  287. We are gifted with something, but when we come to church,

  288. we actually don't give that gift. We don't exercise that gift.

  289. And that's akin to taking home whatever God is facing

  290. your hands, heart or ability. You just take it home.

  291. Wasted gift, waste it. Give with a bracket as sometimes

  292. more than one. Kay. And again you also want something.

  293. The perspective of this, if you're going to read about it,

  294. it's in first content twelve. It is really about the

  295. gifts are a manifestation of how the Holy Spirit can

  296. then work in not our lives, but people's lives. That

  297. means it's to bless others. In other words, So if

  298. you are withholding that, then you are also withholding the

  299. blessings that somebody else can receive. Okay, And and and

  300. that is something that I think is more prevalent these days.

  301. It's because of this whole self inward looking I will

  302. only serve, or I only do things. I only gift

  303. when I feel that I've got it all, or I

  304. work myself out. No supposed to give it away. It's

  305. not yours anyway, right, it's not yours anyway. We are

  306. called to be a blessing. Now, I'm just gonna come

  307. back down here a little bit, because I can say

  308. all I want to say. I can perhaps even convict

  309. a small portion of your of your mind, but I

  310. can never convict you in your heart. Is God's God's

  311. job to convict your hearts. Okay, So while I give

  312. you the hit knowledge, you have to also go to

  313. the Lord and ask for that conviction. Otherwise, again back

  314. to square one. And you always wonder why on earth

  315. that we come to church. We don't progress because it's

  316. small things, like there's simple things. Sometimes we cannot get right? Okay,

  317. can I get right? So I know it's very humbling.

  318. And it took me a while to even understand this

  319. because I myself also four in the same track, because

  320. I'm in looking. Let's just just the word selfish. When

  321. I'm selfish, I think about myself. It's very hard for

  322. a self focused person to understand that they're actually in

  323. this position, that they're self centered. You catch my drift, right,

  324. If you are looking at yourself, it's rare to see

  325. that you're actually looking at yourself. You take somebod else

  326. to tell you that, right, And there's a danger about

  327. this Philippines, too, talks about imating Christ, emating what specifically

  328. christis humility. Now, Christ doesn't have to be humble, you know,

  329. He's God, you know, but yet there is humility in

  330. how God portrays what is supposed to be. Let's read again. Therefore,

  331. if you have any encouragement from being really sorry, being

  332. united with price, if any comfort from His love sorry,

  333. if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing

  334. in the spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make

  335. my joy complete? Whose joy? God's joy right complete? By

  336. being like minded, having the same love, being one in

  337. the spirit and one mind of one mind. Next part here,

  338. verse three very important. Do nothing out of selfish ambition

  339. or vain conceit next part. Rather in humility, value others

  340. above yourself. Again, not looking at yourself. It's only that

  341. you have to look others and need to place the

  342. others above yourself. That's ultimate humility in that sense, because

  343. you're already like forget about the selfie. You can look

  344. at my neighbor and put him his priorities, his needs

  345. above my needs. Kay. And this is again simple terms

  346. are simple language in terms of scripture of God is saying,

  347. if you want to make me happy if you want

  348. to make me happy, right, just place importance on others

  349. first before yourself. Simple. That's a simple version of it.

  350. And that's a fact. Yeah, you come in, you consider

  351. others more important. You've already there. Now what does it

  352. mean in the practical? Kay? Maybe it is about let's

  353. say you know there is a good parking over there

  354. BB one, okay, But even if the parking is there,

  355. I decide to go to B two and part to

  356. allow somebody else better access to maybe to church or

  357. to wherever. That is looking out for somebody else before myself.

  358. It's a simple one. Or it might be Oh, I

  359. may not understand this obeds thing, but it's okay. I

  360. will queue up an always look at me. I will

  361. queue up for days just to get that special exclusive

  362. whatever tickets and I give it to her. That is

  363. looking out for others than yourself. I mean parents, you

  364. know what I'm talking about. Right? You often do things

  365. not for self but for the sacrificial kind of a thing. Right,

  366. And this is exactly what it is. Don't understand it,

  367. but you still do it because it is will we go?

  368. But how many of us are thinking that way? Let's

  369. be honest, how many of us come in today to say,

  370. how can I bless others? How can I bless others

  371. on Sunday? Or don't say Monday, Tuesday or Sunday as well?

  372. How am I thinking this way? These are easier people

  373. to live, by the way, right, Monday may be different enough,

  374. not so easy to love if we talked about it

  375. the last time. But yeah, but that's also how the

  376. world sort of shapes. The norm is we're always called

  377. to take care of ourselves. Counseling, they always ask the questions, right,

  378. how do you feel? This is modern day general counseling. Right,

  379. how does that make you feel? Are you okay? Right?

  380. Let's go back to your childhood, your past to explain

  381. what you're doing right now. Again, it's asking about for

  382. you to reflect on yourself, look at yourself. Right, Sometimes

  383. you can't go back to your mother's room, see what

  384. type of injuries? And not kidding, but but you know

  385. what I'm trying to say. It's always asking you to

  386. go deeper and deeper in self reflection. But God is

  387. adopting a different model. He said, forget about yourself, look

  388. at outside yourself, or other words, put others first. And

  389. if not, we will come in this never ending cycle

  390. of not feeling satisfied. You know this whole thing about

  391. how sometimes even in scriptures, the enemy will know how

  392. to twist it. Sometimes you've probably heard this, this scripture

  393. right about loving your neighbor as yourself, right, very simple,

  394. and not living a neighborment is loving somebody next to

  395. you or somebody not you as yourself. But somehow we

  396. always use the words oh maybe because I cannot love

  397. my neighbor because I have not loved myself enough yet.

  398. But you see the sequence that is, actually live the

  399. neighbor first before you do, and trust me, you will

  400. love yourself. And most of us are designed to focus

  401. on oneself first so that their criteria is already checked

  402. long time ago, so don't have to worry about that.

  403. That's what I'm trying to say. But people do tend

  404. to to to to twist it a little. So one

  405. parent says that get over yourself quickly and then focus

  406. on loving others. Don't twist God's word, okay, Paul. As

  407. I we've read earlier in Philippines, it says considered everybody

  408. else more important than yourself, And this is exactly how

  409. Jesus was so exemplified it. He came down and to serve, right,

  410. He came down to give. He came down to blessed,

  411. not for himself. In fact, I think he went a

  412. perfect beyond the call of duty. He really outgives everybody

  413. or in other words, he also came to rescue people,

  414. rescue from what rescue us from ourselves love pretty much,

  415. to change that mindset, to change that self fee mode,

  416. self centeredness. He came to rescue me and you. Otherwise,

  417. the person that you see here will always just think

  418. of my own interests, what Daniel needs, what Daniel will

  419. think of what I will need to do. And trust me,

  420. if you know the real Daniel right, very selfishent It's

  421. very natural, It's very natural. I always think about self preservation.

  422. What's it gotten for me? I do this? And so

  423. that's why this whole thing about really uh you know

  424. you heard this expression dying to self, right, It's exactly that.

  425. It means to put aside what you need or a

  426. bit more bit killing Daniel, killing myself right, so that

  427. you allow something bigger to happen, right, because I don't

  428. really like this person in me, the natural me, right,

  429. it's going to lead myself to destruction. Let's regalations. I've

  430. been crucified by Christ, sorry, crucified with Christ, and I

  431. no longer live. Right, that is what it's all about.

  432. Die to oneself. But when you die to oneself is

  433. not the end of story. Now, to allow Christ to

  434. live in you. You know, we sing those songs make

  435. room for God. Right, it's exactly it. Once you die

  436. to oneself, you put aside the selfiness. Then you allow

  437. God to live in and true you the life I

  438. know now live in the body. I live by faith

  439. in the Son who loved me and gave himself for me. So,

  440. in other words, living beyond self, living beyond your priorities,

  441. living beyond your need. And it s at It ties

  442. into the message I spoke about two weeks ago, which

  443. is about understanding your purpose and calling. And that's exactly right,

  444. because you understand there's a bigger picture, there's a bigger

  445. need than just self preservation. We need talk of baptism earlier.

  446. Baptism is just something like that, right, why do you do?

  447. Baptism is symbolic of what I just mentioned, all right,

  448. symbolic to no longer live, to allow Christ to live

  449. in you and I I don't want Daniel come to

  450. be in charge anymore. If you don't know my name

  451. is my surname is Kong, so not somebody else. Don't

  452. want then not to be in charge anymore. I want

  453. to crucify this joker so that I allow God to

  454. move and true my life right, because Christ himself has

  455. done exactly that. You know, when Christ in the early

  456. I think eighties and ninety, you always say what would

  457. Jesus do? Right, because we assume when Jesus occupies us,

  458. what will he do? God would definitely not be looking

  459. at myself, and oh Jesus will not looking himself. He

  460. will always stare at others needs. First, You've seen that

  461. in his life, all right. So if we allow God

  462. to move in when we die to ourselves, this is

  463. what can happen because if, like we read earlier, if

  464. we put outside the selfs ambition, that's when you can

  465. start to activate greater things of how God has intended it. Okay,

  466. let me turn to scripture again. He Brews five, he

  467. Brews five versus sorry, Chapter five versus twelve. Let's read

  468. Hebrew five versus Twealth. In fact, though by this time.

  469. You ought to be teachers. You ought to be teachers.

  470. You need someone to teach you elementary truths of God's

  471. word all over again. What does it mean? Probably because

  472. you regress. That means they have actually been taught before.

  473. But they still go back to quote unquote basics because

  474. they regress. You need milk, not solid food. Anyone who

  475. lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted

  476. with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for

  477. the mature, who, by constant use have trained themselves to

  478. distinguish good from evil. Like I said, just now, you're

  479. actual wanted to put coffee in here, but but there

  480. was like s no, I said, like off tangent. But

  481. the thing is, you know, you find it weird that

  482. grown adult of forty a years or sucked sucking milk

  483. like this is because it's not appropriate at this age.

  484. But how many of us write also sort of do

  485. this we become to church, we still expect this kind

  486. of feeding. Right, me, me, me, me, it's written there,

  487. it's coming back to the basics, and we've not grown,

  488. and we wonder, right the problem is really right, it's

  489. because I suck literally and we expect that, right, we

  490. expect that. You wonder how why this is the problem.

  491. Maybe perhaps the problem is not so much the church

  492. at large or even God at large, but maybe perhaps

  493. the perspective we have not grown, or we have chosen

  494. to be stunted. Right passing always say this, and I

  495. keep having her face, always thinking of her when she

  496. she I mean, she talks about the milk. So I

  497. thought this perfect stream. By the way, it is the

  498. best two ring gets spent, we said, they just to

  499. illustrate my point. Why, because it's very awkward for you

  500. to see me doing this, but many of us come

  501. in with a bottle expecting to be fat. So I'll

  502. we feeding or rather not me, but maybe any of

  503. the leaders. We're feeding you just as though you're infant.

  504. And there's also wrong, but we expect that because why

  505. we are in looking feed me, feed me, grow me, okay,

  506. and sometimes even for us. You may also be receiving

  507. your nutrients once a week. You're coming to church once

  508. a week, and this is the only time you get milk,

  509. which is so wrong. Right, we should be moving on

  510. the bigger things, right, But it's just stuck here. What

  511. I'm trying to say, is that how often do we

  512. pick up the Bible for ourselves? Right? Beyond just bringing

  513. the Bible physically? But you know, how often do we

  514. open it? Have we learned to feed ourselves? They will

  515. talk about memorizing versus and all that, just opening the book?

  516. How often do you open it? Right? And you know

  517. we're talking about bigger stuff, solid food for the mature.

  518. Are we all still are we mature? I mean age?

  519. I know mature for sure, but are we mature in Christ?

  520. Are we still infant? If you are a new believer

  521. or you know, it's just a few much, is totally

  522. fine to do that. But after year after year, day

  523. after day, you know, decades after decade, if you keep

  524. doing that, it's a bit strange, right, It's a bit strange.

  525. And then sometimes how how it is we come to church?

  526. We you know, we want past the Sandra to feed

  527. us or past the Kenneth to feed us. The word

  528. must be meety now the bottles passed to you like that,

  529. But we don't take, you know, things into our own hands.

  530. Are you kidding me? Really? Like I said, say, right,

  531. we ought to be teachers by now, but we are

  532. heavy regress. Kay? And this is how we do we

  533. say it? Right? Oh, I think today's word it was

  534. okay again. Maybe it's because you are looking at oneself today.

  535. Song choices didn't drive with me. Right again. It's not

  536. about you. It's not about your supplements. It's supposed to go.

  537. It's will come full already, eaten your meat, lunch already,

  538. it's already lunchtime, past lunchtime. Don't come in expecting to

  539. be fed that kind of way, okay, otherwise you'll be

  540. like like baby, it's one melanie, okay. So the real

  541. problem of why we are unhappy or not satisfied or

  542. feel that lack lack of better word is because excuse

  543. my word, my words, because we su see kyla literally

  544. we expect to suckle, okay, and when you do that,

  545. you're not just deprive yourself. You also leach trying to

  546. use that word less than the whole suc k word.

  547. We leach off the people surrounding you. And you wonder

  548. why the people around you starts to feel tired. It's

  549. because you come in with that expectation to be fed,

  550. and therefore you take from the others around you. But

  551. the opposite is what we are called to do we

  552. are called to minister, we're caught to the less, but

  553. we end up sapping the life of our people around us.

  554. And this is again just setting within the four walls

  555. of the church. What happens out there. I don't know

  556. if we can behave this way in church, wait more

  557. outside of church. And that's a scary part. We are

  558. myself and jes we had the privilege to put people

  559. through pre mariage counseling uh PMC and in chortice to

  560. call it, we actually having an a PMC of this

  561. as well. One of the things that we often challenge

  562. the couple is to uh, you know, couples are always like, oh, okay,

  563. give more. Yeah, actually that's the correct model. How can

  564. you minister to the other person more? I mean it

  565. makes you take less, you give more because when you

  566. give you challenge that you who can give each other more? Right?

  567. It's actually very healthier, you know. Otherwise are you like,

  568. see who can set each other or take from each

  569. other or leach from each other? Right? This is where

  570. things fall apart. And it's the same whether it's with kids, family, friends, church, friends,

  571. et cetera. It's the same thing. Okay, two ways why

  572. sometimes you do that because you feel that lack. If

  573. you feel the lack, right, the need to suck, right

  574. is because maybe you yourself are not feeled. And that's

  575. also a problem. You know. It means you've got to

  576. go back to the Lord and feel yourself. Don't come hungry,

  577. simple way to put it. Look at Jeremiah too, Versustda

  578. in his promises. Here Dad, he is a spring of

  579. living water? What spring of living water? And unlink a lot?

  580. You always be the full? Not so if you come thirsty,

  581. then you take a lot lot h Yeah? Really And

  582. it says it's a warning here, right, because you are

  583. trying to dig out systems. Systems are basically a fancy

  584. word for water containers. Luck, right, your your, your, your,

  585. You are coming into even bringing water containers that are

  586. not appropriate. It doesn't hold water, right, But God, the

  587. everlasting source of living water is who's supposed to tap into? Right?

  588. Let's read some tiny three This is David, some of David.

  589. Now what does it say here? Someonimes we actually sing

  590. that song? Right? The Lord there is my shepherd. Right,

  591. what's the next one? I shall not suck, I shall

  592. not leach, I shall not the same words, I shall

  593. not want, I shall not demand right Why because the

  594. Lord is my shepherd. He's only provided more than enough.

  595. You shouldn't be drawing, I shall not want, I shall

  596. not lack, I shall not want from other people. In fact,

  597. I should be giving other people because I'm already fulfilled

  598. before I come here. But in reality, that's not how

  599. it is. We often come with those like and then

  600. we expect maybe our peers, our church partners, our leaders

  601. to fill that need, even though it's also not quite

  602. right lar because why go back to God again? Doesn't

  603. mean that there's not a place for us to come

  604. together to pray for different needs. Not trying to say

  605. we do that, partner with you, but at the same time,

  606. you still have to draw from the living source. We

  607. are just you know, peers helping you out as well, Okay,

  608. but in doing so, you know life is going to

  609. be different. And like I said earlier, this is how

  610. even in marriage, you know, when you come together, how

  611. can I how can I serve you? How can I

  612. give you more? Why? Because I'm already fulfilled. I want

  613. to let the let it outflow into my partner's life. Kay,

  614. Because when we lack, I've got this slide over here.

  615. It's like when we lack or we run empty, there's

  616. a tendency to start to leach or tend to set

  617. from others instead of what we're designed to do, which

  618. is to outflow into others. And sometimes you wonder why

  619. people are burnt out right, it's because you know we

  620. we we cause es, We cause them to burn out.

  621. Instead of blessing them, we are sapping from them. No

  622. broken families also like this. You know they said that

  623. I cannot it's just so selfish, so and so, it's

  624. just so selfish. Sometimes I even say this to my kids.

  625. Last time I was younger, like I died to myself

  626. with anyway, I said, how can you just do this

  627. to me? How come so inward looking kids? But you

  628. know the moment the kids turn and become a bit

  629. more thoughtful, think about you a big money, you feel like,

  630. are so blessed? Right? But this is this is it.

  631. We have to do this otherwise, right, the church will

  632. collectively a s u c K. Because everybody is looking

  633. at oneself when we are called to overflow blessings to others.

  634. But if you do not watch the micro managed the small,

  635. it's just gonna escalate everybody, you know, Like, however, many

  636. of us are going to be in that category. You know.

  637. My wife and I recently celebrated our seven aniversary not

  638. too long ago. Yeah, seven three seven years, two thousand

  639. and seven aniversary. Yes, oh, seventeen, sorry seventeen. I was

  640. like when I was writing it down, twenty seventeen. Okay,

  641. two thousand and seven. Sorry, sah, tonight, you're gonna sleep

  642. in the culture, seeing the culturally, Yeah, my kids are older.

  643. My kids are older. Okay, thank you for checking. That

  644. goes my point of seven years of perfection. Yeah anyway, yeah, no, no,

  645. but one thing I wanted to We were talking about

  646. counting blessing in our years of marriage. She were saying

  647. that we are so blessed. And I think it's not

  648. to say that there were no challenges and trials and

  649. things like that in our lives, you know, in different

  650. seasons of our marriage life, but it's to say that,

  651. you know, we feel complete, we feel fulfilled. I was

  652. just so so sharing it is like somehow God doesn't

  653. throw us into like very changes, not that it's not challenging,

  654. it's just that so far, because we feel fulfilled, we

  655. feel complete in our personal life. First, let me just

  656. say I don't need her to complete met love for

  657. the bits by the way, love to spend time in her,

  658. but doesn't mean that I need to, you know, be

  659. twenty four hours with her. Likewise, she'll probably say the

  660. same as well. In fact, she's more independent. She can

  661. go on for like longer time of disconnect and she's

  662. fine with it and just the way we're wired. But

  663. what I'm trying to say is that the only reason

  664. why we can do this is because we already feel

  665. fulfilled in the Lord. He completes us, you know, like

  666. the I guess the practical like no, when distance is concerned,

  667. recently she travels, so I feel a bit more. But

  668. the Lord feels fine. And what does it mean againlf,

  669. we want to look at the Lord. It's fine, You're okay.

  670. We are amazing. Sorry, God, you're amazing. And therefore we

  671. are fine, and we feel fulfilled. And when we feel fulfilled,

  672. then it trickles down to the rest, it outflows to

  673. the rest. Okay. This is important why because otherwise you'll

  674. come into every situation without much to give. Right, you

  675. come into your kid's life and you are dry. You

  676. come into your spouse or your friends. You are dry,

  677. nothing to give because you have not been filling up,

  678. you know, with the living water. Not run any fiver,

  679. but living water before you go up. So you need

  680. to understand. Continue to stare at him, continue to look

  681. to him, continue to allow him to feel you, and

  682. you'll be fine. But the wind not too close to

  683. the fast right, No, but really, let me just also

  684. say a word of warning. Right. The enemy knows this,

  685. knows it very well. You see, even as early as

  686. uh in the garden of Eden. You know when when when?

  687. When the when? When Satan came and tempted or suggested

  688. to Eve to go and try that fruit. Right? What

  689. did he say? He said, I'm paraphrasing here. It's okay.

  690. On just think of yourself, think of what you need,

  691. do not be, do not have to be under the

  692. leadership of God. Right, that's pretty much what he's saying.

  693. Go and try that fruit, make yourself feel more, you know,

  694. put yourself first. You do what you need for yourself.

  695. And again, very natural humans. Yeah, it sounds good. I

  696. help myself first, and because of that we move away

  697. from God. And it's the same same strategy. Thousand years later,

  698. you know, saying ways creepy and say you need to

  699. do this for this season that you're in. You need

  700. to take care of your self first, you know, don't

  701. worry about God or church or whatever. Focus on yourself

  702. as this is your prime time to do what God

  703. has caught you to do in the marketplace. I mean

  704. can be Don't get me wrong, there are times that

  705. God calls you to be that in the marketplace. But

  706. it's his strategy to ask you to focus on yourself. Okay,

  707. let's read this scripture John ten ten very famous strategy.

  708. This is uh, this is Satan's table, all right. The

  709. thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy. His motive

  710. is very clear. And I've come that they may have

  711. life is God and have it to the full. So

  712. what is God trying to warn us Satan or the enemy?

  713. The teeth will come in? You know what he does.

  714. He just passes you a mirror or passes you a

  715. modern mobile phone, switch it to self, emode and pass

  716. to you. I am paraphrasing or other using an energy.

  717. But yet I'm trying to say, focusing yourself, worry about God.

  718. Suddenly your phone cannot cannot switch the camera over to

  719. the anxiety, because it's just so used to looking at yourself.

  720. You are so beautiful God. Forget about God. People right,

  721. you see social media they tweet red profound stuff right

  722. these days, or rather they post red profound stuff. So

  723. it's about, oh, you know, are they of God? It's

  724. usually about think about it most of the time, to

  725. show some powers, some inner ability, or some achievements or whatever. Yea,

  726. it's very normal. We are wired away unfortunately sinful right

  727. comes there and me comes there, me, look at me,

  728. look at me. This is why I done, what I've achieved,

  729. this is where I'm where I'm going. Let's look at

  730. is okay? And they were calling to one another. Holy, Holy,

  731. Holy is the Lord Almighty. The whole earth is full

  732. of his glory. And the sound of the voice their

  733. voices the door post and the threshold shook, and the

  734. temple was filled with smoke. WHOA to me, I cried,

  735. I'm ruined, for I am a man of unclean lips,

  736. and I live among a people of unclean lips. And

  737. my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty. What

  738. he is trying to illustrate here is we will always

  739. think that we are. But when you actually see his glory,

  740. the perspective change. What this guy's trying to say a

  741. paraphrasing here, whoa, I'm ruined, I'm ugly, I'm disgusting, I'm unclean,

  742. I'm dead. After he experienced God's glory, I'm not worthy,

  743. It's another way to put it, because you are worthy.

  744. Suddenly we see our imperfections when we take our eyes

  745. off selfimode and look at our God, the Creator. Again,

  746. it's not about you, bottom line, is not about you.

  747. It's really about God and all his glory. Next light

  748. in his light, our imperfection show it's never been about us.

  749. So we are to focus on denying ourselves and follow

  750. after God. Let yourself go. That's how you actually find

  751. the true meaning of life. You know, true purpose of life,

  752. your true calling. I mean I don't understand or fully

  753. understand all the struggles and the things that you know.

  754. Life trows your way and I may never right because

  755. unless we sit down and talk about it. And again

  756. I'm not downplaying that. You know, we have these things

  757. to go through in life, not diminishing the importance of it.

  758. But the biggest thing is that we need to look

  759. beyond that and focus, stare at him, set your gaze

  760. on him. Right, we are not built to just be

  761. focus on you know what's reflecting back to us in

  762. a sense, So how do we overcome this? You know

  763. we talk about presence of God? Do you long for

  764. his presence? Okay? Simple, simpletons me. When you long for somebody,

  765. what happens? You want to see that person? Right, and

  766. just was traveling for for some time. I long to

  767. see her. I long for a presence, right.

  768. Or her?

  769. She doesn't call me, Like I said, we're a wire

  770. a bit differently. Yeah, I used to excuse right, but yeah,

  771. we as a family can't wait for her to come back.

  772. I was gone longer last time. I think six weeks.

  773. I was gone and you miss me? But maybe she

  774. don't love me as much or don't long for me

  775. as much as jogicide joke aside. Okay, but if you

  776. long for the Lord, you want to see him? But

  777. how is it? How how do you see him through

  778. Sunday service? Only? You have to make your own appointment,

  779. like you have to make your own text, You may

  780. your own calls or whatever it is. Right, do you

  781. yearn for him to come back into your life? Or

  782. are you just relying on this Because if you really

  783. really yearn for him, you long for his presence, you

  784. want to make an extra effort in your own space,

  785. in your own time to do so. Not just wait

  786. for Sunday to be fed again coming to your presence.

  787. Prepare for Sundays in other way to put it, feel

  788. your feel yourself so much right that on Sunday, more

  789. for you, more for you, more for you, more for you.

  790. If you come Sunday, nothing much a case because probably

  791. you didn't, You didn't fill up on the week. So

  792. hard checker. What holds you back from longing God? Maybe

  793. perhaps you haven't gazed at this glory. You know, we

  794. talked about this, the rekindling of your first love. Maybe

  795. that first lift is all diminished. Remember new Christians, right,

  796. first time believers are They're very excited about gotten non

  797. stop one. They spend time we've got as you age, instead,

  798. you think meet we go back to this kind of thing,

  799. and again, it's really about rekindling that flame. I'm sure

  800. to have one, okay, but the wind down here extreme

  801. can come up shortly, maybe in my five minutes. Again

  802. it's not coming up, but I do have some time

  803. to cover this. Okay, Now I remember the story about

  804. Mount Sinai. Okay, I don't have the scriptures because I

  805. thought I won't. We don't have enough time. But Exodus

  806. nineteen is where I'm going to go to. It's a

  807. red cool scene, by the way, It's very crazy scene,

  808. but a red cool scene. Okay, Let's go to scripture

  809. Exodus nineteen nine to twenty. Okay, let's go. The Lord

  810. said to Moses, I'm going to come to you in

  811. a dense cloud, so that the people will hear me

  812. speaking with you and will always put their trust in you. Okay.

  813. Then Moses told the Lord what the people had said.

  814. And then the Lord said to Moses, go to the people,

  815. concentrate them today and tomorrow, have them wash their clothes

  816. versus eleven, and be ready by the third day, because

  817. on that day the law will come down on Mount

  818. Sinai in the sight of all the people. Put limits

  819. for the people around the mountain. Let me just say,

  820. there's some places you can't go to out of bounds.

  821. Cannot go to these places. For the people around the mountain,

  822. and tell them be careful, do not push the mountain

  823. or touch the foot of it. Whoever touches the mountain

  824. will be put to death. They are to be stoned

  825. or shot with arrows. Now a hand is to be

  826. li on them. No person or animals shall be permitted

  827. to live. Only when the rams horns horn sounds a

  828. long blast may they approached the mountain. So this was

  829. the condition back then. You know, Moses will go up

  830. receive something, and they come down and spread the news.

  831. So in the morning ver sixteen, when jumping sixteen, on

  832. the morning of the third day, there was a thunder

  833. and lightning, the thick cloud over the mountain, and the

  834. loudest trumpet blasts. Everyone in the camp trembled. Moses then

  835. led the people out of camp to meet God. They

  836. stood at the foot of the mountain. Mount signer was

  837. covered with smoke. Imagine how with me because the Lord

  838. descended on it in fire drama. Have a video, but

  839. you get the idea. The smoke below below, below it below,

  840. it up from it like a smoke from a furnace. Okay,

  841. And the whole mountain trembled violently a earthquake, and the

  842. sound of trumpets grew louder and louder, and Moses spoke

  843. and the voice of God answered him. The Lord descended.

  844. The Lord came down to the top of Mount Sinai

  845. and called Moses to the top of the mountain. So

  846. Moses went up. Such an awesome scene, right, he imagined,

  847. if this morning, or rather this this afternoon, if you know,

  848. delived pastor Kenneth like Moses went up to what's the

  849. nearest Tallas mountain? Here? Tahan is it? Wookie gassing? Okay,

  850. maybe closely by. I was thinking mount you know, Mount Sinai.

  851. But Booki Gasing will do like book gasaying. He said,

  852. stay here, stay down here, stay down here. I will

  853. go up and speak to the Lord. The Lord will

  854. tell me, because if you go up there, you get killed.

  855. Oookay gassing, right, you get killed. So you wait down here,

  856. and you what will happen to the people down You'd

  857. be so excited waiting, eager, eager for Moses to come out,

  858. eager for maybe past the Kenneth to come down from

  859. Bookie Gassing to tell you what the Lord has shed

  860. with him. Okay, that was the anticipation. Then just pin

  861. there picture. But that was the old approach, That was

  862. the Old Testament approach right now, right in today's era. Right,

  863. you do not have to wait for pasta Kenav to

  864. go up to the mountains. You take us saying download

  865. and come back and tell you in fact you've got

  866. direct access. Right, the whale has torn right, mean to say,

  867. the high priests pass the kennif or leaders, Daniel cor whoever,

  868. don't have to go up to the mountain anymore, thankfully, right,

  869. you can go and access. Everyone accesss to the mountain.

  870. But are we doing it? I mean a few a

  871. few months ago I shared, you know, I challenge everybody

  872. to don't just wait for past even share the vision.

  873. You go and seek the vision for yourself and see

  874. where it lies to pass the vision. But we have

  875. become so dependent on putting our spiritual leaders in that

  876. position to go and seek the Lord and then share

  877. with you. Nothing wrong with that, Like I said, is

  878. you know I enjoy doing this for example, but you

  879. cannot just come once a week to wait to download

  880. from whoever else is speaking up here. But are we

  881. doing it right? Are we doing it? So? The worst

  882. thing that actually we can do, those that are put

  883. in the position at the pulpit, is to continue to

  884. do this in proxy. That makes me play Moses and

  885. deny you the ability to try it yourself, to go

  886. up to the mountain. And that is the problem as well.

  887. So last light, Oh if you shi, everyone has accessed

  888. the mountain extreme come up with you. Everyone accepts the mountaintop.

  889. You don't need a proxy. There are no barriers, but

  890. you have to take that step to step forward and

  891. encounter for yourself. The moment you encounter it right, life

  892. will never be the same again. You know it's very different,

  893. but it takes you to try it out. And how

  894. can we do that again? Take away from the selfish

  895. self fee mentality, selfish selfie, same thing. Start looking to him.

  896. We are called to be in his presence until you

  897. try it out, until you gaze at him, until you

  898. love him that you're meant to do, until you have

  899. you focus on his beauty. We will always fall in

  900. the trap and tendency to be inward looking and self focused.

  901. And you know, all the self self preservation, et cetera,

  902. et cetera, you do not need to even look at others,

  903. look to God and in that process you can then

  904. see maybe how it can bless the others. So let

  905. me just end here with you know, even Matthew seven trains.

  906. You don't have it up. It's fine, it says here,

  907. I never knew you. That's what Matthew seven trainees says.

  908. Don't be the one that has never actually even tried

  909. to go up the mountain. No one up the top. No,

  910. they don't try going up the the foot or the

  911. half of bookiet cussing, and just heavily rely and be

  912. dependent and excuse my language, come every week to step

  913. off the people around you on a weekly basis. I

  914. think that's not right. We are called to give, we

  915. are called to bless. Like I said earlier, all of

  916. us have been given a measure. Have you used that

  917. measure in according to God's will here on earth? Or

  918. are we still fixated on ourselves? So really this is

  919. a time simple message in that sense, because all you

  920. need to do is just to want to change. You

  921. know earlier, I should take a selfie right, exercise right

  922. if you are, If you're there to do it, you're

  923. there to do it. At the end of today, you

  924. can post that selfie up and say this is my

  925. last self bracket I e. This is the last time

  926. I'm going to be focused on myself and not focused

  927. on the people around me, because life really begins, fulfillment

  928. really begins when we channel God's blessing to our lives

  929. to others. But again, the balls on our call to

  930. fill ourselves up. Let's not be, you know, having a

  931. consumer mentality, but be a contributor. Give. We are called

  932. to be teachers. We're not called to do this indefinitely.

  933. This has got to stop. This has got to stop.

  934. I was going to allow extreme the minister to us

  935. earlier when Joe was just singing worthy is the Lamb

  936. a pre service? I thought that was so app because

  937. what we're trying to do is really focus on him.

  938. He is worthy. He is all we need. So just

  939. join me and stand and just worship the lot together.

  940. Let this be the last day that we focused on oneself.

  941. Let us die to ourself, be baptized in that sense.

  942. Let us really live out life as God is intended,

  943. Really be alive and overflowing. I FA's goodness in our lives.

  944. Jesus, We hope you've been blessed by this message. For
