  1. You're listening to a message to go from acts church.

  2. We hope this message will light up your tea.

  3. I just want to start off with a little National

  4. Geography or Discovery Channel fun fact. All right, so you

  5. can show your first slide penguins. Every time I think

  6. about penguins, I think about Benedict Cumberbatch the way he

  7. pronounced penguins penguins. For some reason, this famous actor can't

  8. pronounce penguins. It's very funny. You can look it up

  9. on YouTube. He was doing us a sort of like

  10. a documentary or something like that, but every time he

  11. say penguin, he'll say differently. It's very funny. But anyways,

  12. these are emperor penguins, all right. It's one species, one

  13. type of penguin. I just share a little fun fact

  14. with you. Number one, when they give birth to their

  15. young's true x, all right, and they only give birth

  16. to sort of like lay an ache at only one

  17. and one go. So it's very precious, very precious. And

  18. every time an egg is laid the male and peror penguin,

  19. what he will do is he will be with the

  20. egg and not move. I want to guess how long

  21. trow number nine months? Wow, it's like a human baby anymore.

  22. Six months, three months, very close, it's actually four months.

  23. Do the math. There's how many days one hundred twenty days,

  24. one hundred and twenty days of not moving and guess what,

  25. not eating. So the father actually stays with the egg

  26. for four months to keep it warm until it hatches.

  27. For four months, very precious because it's the only for

  28. the season, and the father is very protective over that agge.

  29. And for four months all of love for the little one.

  30. The father abstains himself from eating because he couldn't live.

  31. But that's what the father does. Now, what does this

  32. have to do with our message? Ef A penguin can

  33. spend one hundred to one hundred and twenty days not eating,

  34. all of love for the little one. You know what

  35. I'm hating with this?

  36. Ready?

  37. I think we can fast a bit for Jesus, all

  38. of our love for Jesus. One the guests, was the

  39. title of my message? Some of you don't need a guess.

  40. You saw my Instagram story. Well, I want to guess

  41. what was the title of my message? I say, I

  42. say it's okay, don't have answer. You can say so

  43. penguin be a Penguin. Yes, that's the title of my

  44. message today is be a pang Gwin. And of course

  45. we are in a season of U Turn and it

  46. is just a little fun little title to help us

  47. remember the message. We're in your season of you ten,

  48. Today's day, what day sixteen? Today's day sixteen of you Turn.

  49. So in ex Church we do corporate fasting together fasting

  50. and prayer where we do it twenty one days leading

  51. up to Good Friday. Of course, for some of you

  52. are visiting for other churches, you know, you know some

  53. maybe your church practices forty days, forty days of land

  54. leading up to is leading up to Good Friday. In

  55. ex Church we do twenty one days and we call

  56. it uten. Why do we call it uten because it

  57. is a time that we want to turn back to God,

  58. you know, take this time to really focus in, to

  59. really zone in onto God and to you turn our ways, youth,

  60. turn our thoughts, youth, turn our plans to God's plans,

  61. God's ways, God's thoughts. And we are in this season

  62. right now. I'm really really treasuring this season, and so

  63. it's really a time when we do it, we can

  64. really sense our SENSITIVT towards the Holy Spirit, towards God

  65. really heightened in this season and therefore today the message

  66. that I would like to preach about in line this

  67. season is on fasting. It's on fasting, just to share

  68. right prior to coming to ex Church, So I came

  69. to ex Church when I came down to study for university.

  70. So in my first year, I cameo Exchange, but prior

  71. to that, I was in an Anglican church for twenty years.

  72. So I grew up in an Anglican church setting, very conservative,

  73. traditional and yeah, Anglican churches observe forty days of length

  74. of fasting, but funny enough, I never fasted in that

  75. twenty years. I learned about fasting when I came to

  76. ex Church because I think in ex Church, back back

  77. when I was in my home church, in Anglican Church

  78. back in Binang, it's not talked about that much. It's

  79. sort of like if you want to do it, you can.

  80. There's no program, but you can do it, and we

  81. encourage you to do it. But in Exchange, I'm really

  82. grateful that I came down. That's sort of a program

  83. meaning you can sign and you can sort of sign

  84. up to follow a devotional and we do it together, right,

  85. And we also have small groups where we talk about it.

  86. We call it homes In a home setting, we will

  87. talk about it. We'll encourage one another. We will say, hey,

  88. how's your fast going. Are you okay? And sometimes you

  89. go like, oh, man, I miss the caffeine, because some

  90. of you may be fast in caffeine, right, miss the caffeine.

  91. Then a brother or sister will encourage you go, I

  92. also miss it too, but it's okay, let's do it together, right.

  93. So in extras we really encourage doing this together and

  94. this fast thing only you know, is it only limited

  95. to the twenty one days? No, we actually encourage the

  96. practice of fasting throughout the year. Anytime, any point of time,

  97. you feel that you want to grow close to God,

  98. you won't draw near to God, you're singing God for something.

  99. We encourage all of us to fast, all right. It's

  100. just that in these twenty one days we get to

  101. do it together. And there's power of corporate fast thing.

  102. There's power in corporate prayer. That's why we do it. Now.

  103. Just want to share a bit. What is fast thing?

  104. Is the first point we want to talk about this.

  105. What is Fasting a fast thing. It's taught in the

  106. Bible as a very crucial and important spiritual discipline in

  107. our work. We've got it is important. I've come to

  108. recognize this for myself now and now that I've participated.

  109. I've done fast thing in the past ten years during

  110. uten season and other situations on my own when if

  111. there's something I am praying for, I would fast. I've

  112. recognized that it is an important spiritual discipline because it

  113. causes me to grow liaps and bounds when I fast.

  114. So what is fast thing really? So I've got a

  115. little definition. First thing is choosing to abstain from a

  116. food or an activity so that we can focus in

  117. on God. Simple definition for you, all right, That's how

  118. I define whether you know it's a certain male that

  119. you're fasting for, or it's just it's it's you know.

  120. One famous fast nowadays amongst our young people is social media, right,

  121. And it's actually important because young young ones are always

  122. on social media. I'm always on social media, confession right,

  123. So by fasting social media, you realize actually we free

  124. up a lot of time to actually spend time with God.

  125. You know, fasting social media. I know some of us. Yes,

  126. fasting sugar, there's a tough one, really tough one. But

  127. doing that so that we can actually spend more time

  128. and have that desire to pray more, to worship more,

  129. to read the Bible more. This discipline of fasting helps

  130. to strengthen our faith. It helps to strengthen our spirit

  131. and to be able to hear God's voice more clearly

  132. because destructions are put aside, all right. And I also

  133. have to say this, okay, Spiritual fasting is always paired

  134. with prayer. Spiritual fast thing without prayer is merely dieting. Okay,

  135. it's just dieting. So if you're fast thing, you say

  136. you're fasting or I'm fasting for the Lord, but you

  137. don't pray, You're just dieting. There's no power. The only

  138. power you see is probably you lose weight. That's it.

  139. That's it, all right. But if you want to have

  140. a breakthrough in your spirit when you do a fast,

  141. you ought to pray. You have to pray. It's very important.

  142. It goes hand in hand, it goes together. That some

  143. history of fasting, I'm just gonna share with you some

  144. key biblical people, historical figures. The first record Lot off fast.

  145. Thing ever mentioned in the Bible is done by Moses,

  146. all right, So what basically happened was Moses went up

  147. Mount Sinai to seek the Lord so that he can

  148. hear direction from the Lord on how to lead the Israelites. Okay,

  149. And of course he went up for forty days forty nights.

  150. He did not eat. He was just in the presence

  151. of God. And it's pretty cool because I think this

  152. is first record in history that we know of God

  153. actually writing downwards himself. God actually, in case he wondered,

  154. you thought Moses was the one that heard from the

  155. Lord and he was inscribing on stones. It wasn't God himself.

  156. You'd read the Bible, God himself wrote on the tablets.

  157. I'm very curious of God's handwriting. It must be very

  158. really beautiful because no one was confused with the commments

  159. that he was given. So that was the first record

  160. of ussing. And of course after that, do you guys

  161. know what happened? The tablet was broken because the Israelized

  162. did something Celila, and then Moses was angry, and I

  163. can imagine God going like, hey, I just wrote this

  164. for you can never mind you come up again. All

  165. right for you again. And God actually did that. So

  166. Moses went up for another forty days all right, fasting

  167. and meeting with the Lot, having conversation with the Lot.

  168. Uh.

  169. Really, and then you also know, right when he came

  170. back down, he actually had to wear a veil over

  171. his face because he was We've got so much that

  172. his face was glowing. Well, have you ever seen people

  173. who are close to the Lord. You look at them,

  174. there's just certain condeness upon their face. He says, Wow,

  175. this person has a glow on the person's face. Uh.

  176. And I would I say this, I would say this

  177. is very real, because that was what happened with Moses

  178. forty days with the Lot, and his face was glowing

  179. because there was nothing, It was just the Lord with him. Right,

  180. So that was Moses' true fast thing. For forty days

  181. he received from the Lord the ten Commandments, which until

  182. today we still talk about and we try our best

  183. to observe. The next person I want to talk about

  184. is Daniel. Daniel and his friends shed mischak ebanago. All right,

  185. so what did they fast? They did the Daniel fast

  186. that you know it as the Daniel fass. So basically,

  187. what happened was they were brought to Babylon as captives,

  188. and the king saw, King Nebu saw that these men

  189. are of good quality. I want to give them education,

  190. I want to trade them up so they can be

  191. of use in my kingdom. Right. So of course when

  192. they were there, they were so privileged to be offered

  193. the king's delicacies. Whatever the king aid these group of people.

  194. It's not just them, there were others as well who

  195. were help captive. When Babylong conquered, right the different lands.

  196. They get to share the king's food, all right, and

  197. we all know if you're eating the king's delicacies is

  198. got to be good. But what did Daniel and his

  199. friends there? They say, we shall abstain. We shall abstain

  200. from the King's delicacy. Is the wine, the meat, right

  201. to abstain from the indulgences of the world. I think

  202. at the time when they fasted, their heart is purely

  203. I'm just imagining. They were probably just thinking, man, I

  204. don't want to get so much of the world in me.

  205. I need to remember that I belong to the Lord.

  206. So they chose to abstain from the food and delicacies

  207. of the king and I see it as a symbolic

  208. thing because they're choosing to abstain from the indulgences that

  209. the world offers. And how many of y'all know that

  210. after that, they actually came back ten times stronger than

  211. the rest that partook in the King's delicacy, right, So

  212. that is I just wanted to share a little testimony

  213. of my own related to this. I have got them

  214. proof that the ten times stronger thing is real. It's

  215. reel and some of you I've heard this story before

  216. a few years ago when I was I think there

  217. was two years back when I was doing sort of

  218. like a liquid fast that means no solid food. I

  219. was still working out at that time. I actually, on

  220. the how many days, On the the teenth day, which

  221. is the second last day of my liquid fast, I

  222. went to the gym and I actually lifted the heaviest

  223. I ever lifted prior to that. It does not make

  224. any sense. That's not because I haven't eaten any food.

  225. And that was almost God like telling me what that

  226. new experience. I'm not telling you that it's true and

  227. it's possible because it's spiritual. I understand when we do

  228. spiritual fast, strength does not come from the fe world.

  229. Strength comes from the Lord, and I the privilege to

  230. go through that for God to tell me. I want

  231. you to know this is very real. Any time you

  232. feel weak, anytime you want something, look to the supernatural God,

  233. because I can provide you what that does not make sense,

  234. the strength to overcome whatever you need to overcome. So

  235. it's very real, friends, I experience it, and I'm here

  236. to testify that the whole ten times stronger thing is true.

  237. When you fast onto the Lord, when you seek him,

  238. supernatural strength comes upon you. Another person in scripture that

  239. I want to bring out is Esther, Queen Esther right,

  240. So what happened here is basically it was a time

  241. where the King wanted to wipe out the Jews, basically

  242. all right, they wanted to wipe out the Jews, and Esther,

  243. in desperation one thing to save the Jews of Susa.

  244. She told the Jews and said, hey, let's fast and

  245. that I'm going to go and plead my case with

  246. the King so that we may be spared. And because

  247. they fastered, their destruction was spared. They weren't. There was

  248. no destruction upon the people. They were spared. The Lord

  249. delivered them true their fasting unto the Lord. So is

  250. there a situation they're going through that you feel is

  251. very dire? Can I encourage you fast fast and seek

  252. the Lord. Fast and seek the Lord, because the Lord

  253. can deliver you right. And the fourth figure that I

  254. want to talk about is Jesus himself. Jesus fasted for

  255. forty days and forty nights being in the wilderness before

  256. he started his ministry. And if you look at the Bible,

  257. there weren't much reasons that were mentioned why Jesus did that.

  258. But I would believe that he wanted to draw near

  259. to the Father before he started his ministry so that

  260. he can be equipped to go on. And of course

  261. we know that in that season for the Days and

  262. for the Knights Bible. The Bible actually mentioned that Jesus

  263. was hungry at the end of it, and that's where

  264. temptation came, right. Satan came to tempt Jesus. And you know,

  265. Jesus overcame the temptation. I believe it was because he

  266. drew near to the Lord and he found strength in

  267. the Lord, and there was such clarity of the word

  268. of God in his mind. Of course, he himself is God,

  269. but he himself is also one hundred percent human. I

  270. won't go into that, there's a whole theological study on that.

  271. But basically, even with the needs that he had he

  272. was experiencing, he was able to overcome temptation because he

  273. drew near to the Father. So this is a story

  274. of how Jesus himself faster for forty days and forty nights,

  275. and true that he was able to also overcome temptation.

  276. Is that temptation or something that is binding you down

  277. that you find very hard to let go of social media? Maybe, ah,

  278. the temptation of to scroll your social media before you

  279. go to bed, right, all the temptation of all your

  280. love desert so much that you have I have a joke,

  281. I have no self control and comes to donuts and

  282. some some of you know that I love donuts. Right,

  283. So I didn't have to fast to overcome that, Thank God,

  284. Thank God. But if there's something that you find yourself

  285. struggling with, something that is holding you down, fast fast,

  286. and God will give you the strength to overcome the temptations,

  287. all right, then the question is we talk about what

  288. fast thing is? We talked about who in the Bible, faster,

  289. history are fasting. Let's talk about why why fast? Why

  290. is fasting such a big deal. The first point I

  291. want to give to you is Jesus himself faster. So

  292. if Jesus himself faster, don't you think we should follow us?

  293. Because Jesus himself came to earth to be a blueprint

  294. how we live alife. He came to earth to teach

  295. us the ways of the Kingdom, which he himself practiced,

  296. and many times he showed it to his disciples. He

  297. showed it to people that these are the ways of

  298. the Kingdom by practicing it himself. So I feel this

  299. itself should be a good enough reason for usopathic and fasting,

  300. because Jesus himself did it. Now, another thing that the

  301. Lord showed me, revealed to me about fasting is say,

  302. we're gonna look at scripture Matthew seventeen fourteen to twenty one.

  303. If you can flip up on your Bibles Matthew seventeen

  304. fourteen to twenty one, I'm gonna read from the NKJV translation,

  305. here is what the Word of the Lord says. And

  306. when they had come to the multitude, a man came

  307. to him kneeling down to him, saying, Lord, have mercy

  308. on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely,

  309. for he often falls into the fire and often into

  310. the water verse sixteen. So I brought him to your disciples,

  311. but they could not cure him. Wow, even with Jesus'

  312. closest disciples, they weren't able to deliver this man's son

  313. Verse seventeen. Then Jesus answered and said, all faithless and

  314. perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How

  315. long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to me?

  316. Now thak Lord. The disciples were there, and I believe

  317. Jesus was also addressing the disciples. It would make sense

  318. in a bit verse eighteen. And Jesus rebuilked the demon

  319. that's within that child, and it came out of him,

  320. and the child was cured from that very hour. Then

  321. the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, why could

  322. we not cast it out? We prayed, we tried, but yes,

  323. we are not able to cast it out Verse twenty.

  324. So Jesus said to them, because of your unbelief, For

  325. because of your unbelief, or surely I say to you,

  326. if you have faith as a master seed. You will

  327. say to this mountain, move from here to there, and

  328. it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you

  329. verse twenty one, or this one verse twenty one. Some

  330. of the translations do not have it all right, But

  331. NKJB says, however, this kind does not go out except

  332. by prayer and fasting. It seems when you first read

  333. it the first round, it feels very detached. How for

  334. a moment, Jesus was talking about how you have no faith,

  335. you know, because if you have the faith of master city,

  336. you'll be able to move mountains, basically saying, if you

  337. have the faith of mastercy, you will have been able

  338. to rebuild this demon. But you couldn't. And Jesus then

  339. goes and say, however, this one cannot happen unless you

  340. fast and pray. It feels very detached at first, but

  341. God revealed this to me, actually this whole thing. Jesus

  342. was saying that you disciples have unbelief, but hey, if

  343. you fast, it will help you with your unbelief. There

  344. was a revelation that caught from the Lord that fasting

  345. and slight that will show fast thing helps us with

  346. our unbelief. If you find yourself in a season that

  347. either you are wrestling with certain understanding towards God, or

  348. you find yourself as if stuck in a certain place

  349. where you are not able to draw near to God,

  350. or you find yourself struggling to believe God on certain things,

  351. certain areas in your life. Can I encourage you fast?

  352. We don't understand how it works. This is a Kingdom

  353. spirituals principle, but I just want to say it works.

  354. It just works. A right of first, I can give

  355. you a lot of different explanations why you work, because

  356. number one, when you fast, and we'll go in to that,

  357. you come into a deeper dependency. And I am going

  358. ahead of myself. But basically, if you feel that you're

  359. in a season of unbelief, I want to first assure

  360. you it's okay, Okay, it's okay. It's not that you've

  361. committed a mighty sin that the Lord cannot deliver you. Right.

  362. Even in scripture, there was one guy that you know

  363. Jesus approached Jesus for healing and Jesus say, all this

  364. will happen if you believe. And then the man said

  365. to Jesus, Lord, I believe, and the next thing is

  366. it help me with my unbelief. And how many of

  367. you know after that the miracle did happen. So it's

  368. okay to tell the Lord Lord, I have unbelief. But

  369. the second part is very important. Help me Lord with

  370. my unbelief. Don't allow me to stay in this unbelief.

  371. Move me, Lord from a state of unbelief to a

  372. point of faith. And when you do that, minracles happen.

  373. How do I know because that happened in scripture right

  374. after that the breakthrough came for the men, right. So

  375. there's an encouragement to all of us if you find

  376. yourself struggling with certain unbelief. Firstly assuring you it's okay.

  377. We all go through that. You know, even past us

  378. and elders will sometimes have that when we're putting in

  379. situations where we just don't understand, or certain tough times

  380. that we are going through, like God, why is this happening?

  381. We do go through seasons of unbelief, but know that

  382. every season of unbelief is not meant to tear you down,

  383. but the season of unbelief is meant to propel you

  384. to greater faith, because when you overcome, you come into

  385. a greater level of faith knowing that, Wow, God, understand

  386. now why I went through that, Because I get to

  387. see how you delivered me. I get to see how

  388. you help me. I get to see the impossible happen

  389. right before my eyes. So, if you are in a

  390. season of unbelief, I want to encourage you to fast

  391. because fasting helps us with our unbelief. There's this saying

  392. by this person, Macrina with a car. She is of

  393. the Catholic faith, she has passed on. But I really

  394. love how she talks about her experience with fasting. Now

  395. she says, this fasting makes me vulnerable and reminds me

  396. of my frailty. How is that so? It reminds me

  397. to remember that if I'm not fed, I will die

  398. standing before God hungry. I suddenly know who I am.

  399. I am one who is poor, called to be rich

  400. in a way that the world does not understand. I'm

  401. one who is empty, called to be filled with the

  402. fullness of God. I'm one who is hungry, called to

  403. taste all the goodness that can be mind in Christ.

  404. Very very profound words. And this actually puts into words

  405. my own experience with fasting. Because when we fast we

  406. go through if you're fasting food or males, we go

  407. through physical hunger. But it is true physical hunger. I'm

  408. expounding on what Macrina shared. The late Macrina is shared.

  409. When we go through physical hunger, we suddenly realize actually

  410. we need food without fudah, very tough and eventually can

  411. die on right. We realize that we are actually very

  412. vulnerable and true that understanding. Sometimes it humbles us to

  413. recognize that we are not God, that we are mere

  414. human beings. When we talk about mere human beings, I

  415. always remember the Sin and Avengers where the heart takes

  416. on Loki as puny God. But we are truly puny humans.

  417. When we compare ourselves to God, puty humans. And sometimes

  418. if you're not careful, we come to a place where

  419. we are so confident in ourselves that we may not

  420. recognize that we are purely leaving by the mercy of God.

  421. That is only by his mercy that we are able

  422. to wake up this morning. It's merely by His mercy

  423. that we are able to have consciousness and wake up

  424. and go like, oh wow, I'm alive. But yet sometimes not.

  425. Sometimes many times we take it for granted, We forget

  426. that God himself is sustaining our heartbeat and causing our

  427. hearts to beat. There are some mysteries in human physiology

  428. until today that we are not able to comprehend true science.

  429. How the heart on its own functions and beats right.

  430. People who experience heart failure sometimes doctors will have to

  431. put a device that is powered still by something to

  432. cause the heart to be. But yet our heart on

  433. its own is able to be. Where is that coming from?

  434. I really believe it's the Lord. The Lord is the

  435. one sustaining us. The Lord is the one causing us

  436. to function. When we come into fasting, we recognize also

  437. that through the deprivation of certain areas of our life,

  438. we can also find fulfillment in the Lord. We recognize

  439. that no matter how deprived we are of certain things,

  440. no matter how you fast, whichever area that you fast,

  441. as you seek the Lord, you come to realize the

  442. Lord will fill up those parts. That's why I believe

  443. Jesus is able to say my food is to do

  444. the will of the Father, because it's true fulfilling his

  445. purposes in the Lord, that he feels fulfilled and he

  446. is fat. Fast thing is profound in a way we're

  447. not just. It makes us realize that we are mere humans.

  448. It also helps us realize how good God is and

  449. how much of our dependence is on the Lord, and

  450. how much is he Jehovah Jidah in our lives, our provider,

  451. the one who sustains us. When we fast, we come

  452. into a place of vulnerability which we will never experience

  453. from a place of abundance. So fast thing is sort

  454. of like you cause yourself to not eat when you

  455. could have eaten. But you see, in the place of abundance,

  456. you will never recognize number one again, your frailty as

  457. a human being, because right now you have everything right.

  458. You're not starving. You can eat, you can drink. You know,

  459. you can entertain your cravings for dessert anytime, every time.

  460. Probably the only thing stopping is thinking about your health.

  461. But the truth remains that if you want, you can.

  462. But yet, when we fast, we recognize then that actually

  463. we need God. It's only in a place of vulnerability

  464. that we will be reminded. It's not that in a

  465. place of vulnerability only you need God, and in a

  466. place of abundance you don't need God. I hope we

  467. have established the fact that God keeps you alife. So

  468. whether you're in abundance or you are in lack, the

  469. truth is God is the one keeping you alive. But

  470. whether we realize it, I've come to understand that it's

  471. only in a place of vulnerability that we will be

  472. able to acknowledge and recognize that we need God. Many times,

  473. in abundance we won't have that perspective. So fast Thing

  474. causes us that he Fasting facilities that process to put

  475. us in a place of vulnerability. For myself, fast Thing

  476. makes me remember that I am human and I need God.

  477. When I mentioned this that He is the one who

  478. sustains and provides. You know when Moses, I hope this

  479. also gives you an evidence. When Moses was on Mount

  480. Sinai for forty days without eating, right, who do you

  481. think is sustaining him? It's the Lord? Right, he didn't eat,

  482. all drink and we all know that without water for

  483. a short few days you'll be in critical condition. But

  484. yet here is Moses, not eating nor drinking, being in

  485. the presence of God. Clearly the Lord is the one

  486. who sustains him. I want to bring you to effect

  487. into something right. The first thing right, you won't die on,

  488. especially when you're fast towards the Lot. Because even Moses

  489. not eating, not drinking for forty days, God sustained him.

  490. He come out still have the strength to be angry.

  491. You know what israelize. Let me tell you that's how

  492. strong yours angry, scolded them, threw the tablet down, still

  493. went up the mountain. Okay, God, here I am again,

  494. look like your people. Okay, Lord, give me the tablets skin.

  495. He was still able to still carve out the stones

  496. are by the way, if you read Bible, it wasn't

  497. just any rock he take. And then God just inscribed

  498. he actually had to carve up tablets for the Lot

  499. to write on. So he still had the strength. So

  500. again I hope there is evidence to you again that

  501. fast thing doesn't mean you will be weak and your

  502. life will be endangered. Which later I were going to

  503. be sharing a bit more. When we talk about how

  504. do we fast? When we fast, we are also this

  505. is I hope you can catch this. When we fast,

  506. we are putting aside something that either we enjoy doing

  507. something that we need. We're putting it aside saying I

  508. will not touch this because I'm doing this unto the Lord. Essentially,

  509. what you're doing is you're setting aside a part of

  510. your life. And when you do that, you are basically

  511. acknowledging that He is God. I am not. I cannot

  512. touch the same principle as tights and offering why we

  513. give tights? The Lord says one tenth we are Essentially,

  514. God is not interested in the amount. It's interested in

  515. your heart. Because when you set the side one tenth,

  516. you're essentially saying this belongs to the Lord, it's not mine.

  517. He has the right to this. I don't basically saying

  518. that He is God. I am not. So sometimes if

  519. you don't remember, if you just we get through the

  520. motion of fast thing, we forget actually the power of

  521. fast thing, all those things that are happening in our

  522. spirit and in our minds. Right, So this says, why

  523. do we fast? Now? How do we fast? For those

  524. of you here? Like I mentioned to you twenty years

  525. growing up in the Anglican Church, I did not learn,

  526. but when it came to asks, I was very thankful

  527. that I was taught how to fast. There are different

  528. types of fast thing. I'm just gonna run through different

  529. ones for those of you who are new to acts

  530. or have never learned about this. I'm gonna share with

  531. you a list, but this is not a fast thing.

  532. That's not limit to that list, Okay. I just want

  533. to share just a general overview of the types of

  534. fast that you can practice. Firstly, one male fast, This

  535. is very common. That means you fast one meal a day,

  536. all right. Again, when you're first, is not just your

  537. fast and then just don't eat or anything. When you're fast,

  538. you're supposed to seek the lot, all right. It's supposed

  539. to be pat with prayer, reading of the word, waiting

  540. on the worship Lord. I'm here presenting our prayers to

  541. the Lord, all right. One male fast. In other way,

  542. it's partial fast, all right, which is for period time.

  543. Is very similar to our cousin faith. Right, that's what

  544. they practice, right, partial fast, certain amount of time. One

  545. the common one is seven am to seven pm. But

  546. not limited to that. Okay, so you can you can

  547. adjust accordingly, all right. Daniel fast consuming only vegetables, fruits

  548. and water. Not a lot of us actually say we

  549. do Danil fast. But to be honest, it's actually vegetable fast.

  550. It's not actually Daniel fast. Right, Daniel fast means that

  551. you only eat vegetables, fruits, and water. It's very stricent

  552. what Daniel and his friends did. But again we are

  553. not legalistic. Okay, so it's okay. So even if you're

  554. doing a vegetarian fast, it's fine. So it's one of

  555. the fast, all right. So this is what that means.

  556. You also have stained from metla and they reproducts. There's

  557. Daniel Fast, all right. Next, liquid fast consuming only liquids solids,

  558. all right. So there is a difference between liquid and

  559. total fasts. Okay, liquid fastest to share. People who do

  560. liquid fast will also consume like juicer soup, all right.

  561. So that's liquid fast. For total fast, that means you

  562. only do water throughout fast, all right. So no food,

  563. no other forms of liquid, just water. Now there are

  564. other fast also there. I just want to share for

  565. your reference, all right. Again, not limited to this list.

  566. All right. There's sugar fast. I know Grace is doing

  567. that really, big props to her. I know it's not

  568. easy for her. Sugar fast. Caffeine. You know, some of

  569. us here caffeine is our god, really, because we say

  570. caffeine sustained as without coffee, we can't function, right, So

  571. some of us really dependent on caffeine, so some would

  572. actually abstain from caffeine all right, certain activities that consume

  573. consumer time or that we enjoy, right, I know, use

  574. that abstain from game They choose to not play games

  575. during the season, or abstain from movies or any form

  576. of entertainment. I have a good friend he's now in

  577. ex Edinburgh, Gabriel. He one of the fast that he

  578. always does is entertainment fast. That means no music only

  579. only only gospel music. Yeah, no movies, no shows, no games. Right,

  580. so he would just not so that a lot of

  581. free time. No, or then why I respect him? Then

  582. he worships colar. He takes off his guitar and in

  583. those times that he would do all this, he will

  584. worship God. So there's one form entertainment fast, and they

  585. are a get not limited to this. Again, the principle

  586. of fast is something that you enjoy doing or you

  587. feel that you need to do, and you put that

  588. aside and say God, this this time, I using this time,

  589. I will seek you, I will seek you. All right.

  590. I do also have to share a few thoughts that

  591. I had to learn. Next light says this first thing

  592. is not a competition. It's not who here can faster

  593. the most. You are God's most precious. No, first thing

  594. is not a competition. First thing is not about trying

  595. to one up yourself every year. I used to do that,

  596. you know, in my naiveness, I used to think, oh

  597. d Y already did this faster. Next year has to

  598. be more challenging. It has to be more challenging. Then

  599. the following year has to be more changing. No, it

  600. shouldn't be like that, you know. I used to have

  601. this mindset that the more I suffer for the Lord,

  602. the more I get to show God my devotion unto him.

  603. I used to honest truth, I used to think that way.

  604. But it's not true. God is not interested in that,

  605. all right. That is actually pagan thinking. And you know

  606. cults actually do this. Suffer, suffer than you will be

  607. God's chosen sounds familiar. The colts will do that. But no,

  608. we are not a coult right. God is not interested

  609. in seeing us suffer to prove our devotion, all right,

  610. That's not what the Lord wants. And I want to say,

  611. self denial when we fast is actually a form of

  612. self denial. We are denying ourselves of certain things that

  613. we enjoy. But self denial is not self harmer. Self

  614. denial is also not self destruction. So please do not

  615. fast in a way that you feel yourself you will

  616. lend yourself in the hospital. Okay, there's no power in that.

  617. I just want to say that, right, fast in a

  618. way that you know will draw you near to the Lord. Okay,

  619. and actually fasting sometimes we feel dawn'e thing, especially if

  620. you have never done it before. But I want to

  621. tell you this. It's fasting is not It's not as

  622. crazy as you think. One dione, one dione. All right, again,

  623. provided you have no pre existing health conditions. Okay, I

  624. also have to put this out there, all right. If

  625. you have other pre existing health conditions and to say no,

  626. you have to eat, please do that all right, and

  627. don't say it past to Steven told me not to eat,

  628. and then you lend yourself in the hospital, and then

  629. I get in trouble. Okay, No, all right. I also

  630. want to say this, all right, if you love food

  631. like me, I have to eat this order. It's not

  632. a form of this order. You guys can get the job,

  633. never mind, Okay. I came up with that man. Never mind,

  634. it didn't work. But yeah, so that's how we fast.

  635. That's how we fast. Fasting. It's not about trying to

  636. prove our devotion to the Lord. It comes from the

  637. heart of one thing to draw near to God. Full stop.

  638. Your desire to fast has to stem from one thing

  639. to draw near to God. Not just oh I need

  640. a promotion and I didn't minuner promotion, therefore I fast. No,

  641. that's a saying, and this is something we really believe

  642. in next church. When we fast and pray, we are

  643. not twisting God's am and say I've done my part. God.

  644. Now I demand you to do your part. No. Fasting

  645. and prayer is realigning our heart to God. That's why

  646. we call it yuelton. Not my wate, lot, not my thoughts,

  647. not my will, but yours lot. Help me to see

  648. your plans, help me to obey. And many times you

  649. will see people who have breakthrough through their fasting. Are

  650. those so they have actually a mindset shift. I faster,

  651. the Lord showed me I need to change my way

  652. of living. I faster. The Lord showed me I need

  653. to change this habit faster. And the Lord showed me

  654. I have certain destructive mindsets that I need to remove.

  655. And it is true that the transformation comes. So remember

  656. fast thing is not twisting God's arm demanding a lot

  657. to do its part. First thing is aligning our hearts

  658. to his. And as I close, you know there is this.

  659. There are different studies talking about habit formation. I just

  660. want to bring us tough. There some of you who

  661. are like productivity gurus, you would know this. Okay, how

  662. does this relate? You'll see later. Okay, five minutes a day. Actually,

  663. if you spend your time doing something five minutes a day,

  664. it's enough to start planting seeds of change in your life. Well,

  665. I feel like motivational speaker now right, shap mindset. So

  666. do that for five minutes a day, fifteen to twenty

  667. minutes a day. This is what many researchers have found

  668. that this is the sweet spot for transformation. That means

  669. you span about fifteen to twenty minutes a day doing

  670. this doing something. You begin to rewire your thought patterns,

  671. You begin to absorb new perspectives, and you begin to

  672. habits that actually stick. Provided you do this daily, all right,

  673. thety plus minutes daily. This is where deep work happens

  674. this level of time investment accelerates change that can lead

  675. to more lasting embodied transformation. So like emotional healing, spiritual growth,

  676. the changing of world views. Right, this is what happens

  677. when you spend the t plus minutes. Now this is

  678. again a field of where there are different researchers done,

  679. and I compoul this into this all right, now, I

  680. got a question for us. Right, so this is how

  681. habit formation people believe. This is what happens when you

  682. do five minutes fifteen to twenty minutes the day plus

  683. minutes daily. Now I have a question for us. How

  684. much time do you spend scrolling social media the day

  685. plus minute? Thank you for sharing. Honest me too. Sometimes

  686. uh my phone will remind me how much time I

  687. spend on certain apps and I'd be so convicted. Oh

  688. my gosh, Yeah, I spent so any minutes and hours

  689. doing this when I could have done something else. But

  690. why I ask this question is you know social media

  691. is plagued with bad news. We all know this. We

  692. all know when we read social media there's a lot

  693. of negativity. I hope I don't sound like, oh I'm

  694. saying this. I think this is the truth that we

  695. can all recognize it's true. This is one of the

  696. biggest tools of the enemy today to use social media

  697. for his own kingdom, to distruct the world. But yet

  698. we spend so much time there. Maybe we need it

  699. for work. Understand, understand, understand, But the truth remains is

  700. that daily, many of us actually spend more than thirty

  701. minutes on social media. And if we follow back to

  702. the research, that means you're actually conforming to the worldview

  703. that's been broadcasted to you. Again according to research. I'm

  704. just linking habits and research together. Now, since you're going

  705. to be spending so much time on social media, why

  706. not spend thirty minutes reading the word of God? If

  707. thirty minutes is a struggle, why not try fifteen to

  708. twenty minutes to pray, to worship, to read the word

  709. of God. If fifteen to twenty minutes is a struggle,

  710. you have not done that long before. Five minutes daily

  711. to read the Word of God, Because according to research,

  712. that actually is in line with what God teaches us.

  713. Meditate my word and my commands daily, Right, the Lord

  714. has sought us that it's backed by science. Guys, if

  715. you do that daily, you'll start to see your top

  716. patterns rewiring. You'll start to see things from God's perspective

  717. instead of the world's perspective. I want you to put

  718. a comparison of your time spent with God, reading the Word,

  719. you know, praying, fasting, versus your time spent on social media.

  720. No wonder we're not having our breakthroughth No wonder we

  721. are stuck because by simple mathematics, it already doesn't align.

  722. We are not spending more time with God. So fast

  723. thing helps us to be able to draw near to

  724. God more. And I want to encourage us fast thing.

  725. It's not just a tradition or a routine or that

  726. we want to do. Fast thing is a Kingdom principle

  727. that aligns us to God. There's power when we fast.

  728. And as I end, I just want to say this,

  729. take this season to seek God for what is truly

  730. in your heart. If some of you don't feel like

  731. you're actually in a good place, trust me when you

  732. seek the Lord and say, God revealed to me my

  733. heart the things of my heart. God will start showing

  734. you what you need to start praying for personal testimony

  735. because there were seasons of life and he actually I'm okay,

  736. but the moment I say, God, actually, what else do

  737. I need to work on? Why is it you want

  738. to tell me? Oh Man, suddenly, God open the doors. Tada.

  739. These are all the things you should be praying for,

  740. all the things you should be seeking me for. And

  741. then now I come with a greater hunger and realize, actually,

  742. I don't have it all. There's so many things I

  743. need to pray for. Why are you believing for what

  744. you're praying for? Praying for salvations of a salvation of

  745. a love one. Fasting is powerful. You're praying for healing.

  746. Fasting is powerful. You're praying for financial breakthrough. Fasting is

  747. powerful again, not by the main fact that we are

  748. twisting God's arm, but it's helping us align to God.

  749. And when we align to God, all these things will flow.

  750. We're in the midst of uton. I don't know how

  751. many of us are participating. My desire is that all

  752. of us will participating in this. For those of you

  753. who call Extra your home, we are in day sixteen,

  754. but hey, they are five more days ago. Not too

  755. late to start. You can start today if you need

  756. today to pray or go what do I fast? It's

  757. okay you got Monday until Friday. Not too late, too fast,

  758. do something that you'll know will cost you, but remember

  759. it's not meant to harm you. All right, there's my

  760. encouragement to you. Not too late to fast, all right,

  761. our you can get out. We actually have devotionals and

  762. all that even telling you what to pray for corporately

  763. for our different global church plans. And there are some

  764. powerful questions in the devotionals that can help you to reflect.

  765. So I want to encourage you. You know, go on

  766. the link x or O n L slashoots and you

  767. can get our devotional their ecopy, but participate. Try never

  768. try and never know Okaya book book, but Blum try

  769. Ballum Tao, try Harry Harry mao ah, So try it.

  770. If you never try it, try fasting. Experience the power

  771. of God true fasting, right, don't miss out on such

  772. a big blessing that God has prepared for us in

  773. the form of fast thing. You're missing out if you're

  774. not fasting, because it's a key spiritual discipline. So that's

  775. my encouragement to you. Can invite all of us to

  776. stand as I pray for us. If you forget everything

  777. I've said, I hope by remembering this, you remember the

  778. world of God. Remember be a penguin. Be a penguin.

  779. If the penguin can fast out of the love for

  780. the little one, I think we can fast out all

  781. the love for the love.

  782. We hope you've been blessed by this message. For more

  783. information on our church, please visit acts church dot org.

  784. We are also acting on Facebook and Instagram. We're believing

  785. that this week is going to be a good week,

  786. a hit for you. God bless
