  1. You're listening to a message to go from at church.

  2. We hope this message will light up your tea.

  3. I want to talk about why being part of the

  4. local church is important. I hope that giving one example

  5. with Saul and Barnabas, you will be able to catch this.

  6. They even saw, the greatest, greatest missionary that we've ever known,

  7. was part of a local church. He had a home church.

  8. Even though he was out on the missions field for

  9. a very long time, he still came back to the

  10. local church. He still reported back to the local church.

  11. He still accounted himself to the local church. Even though

  12. he's such a great apostle and disciple, but he still

  13. submitted himself to the local church. I'm going to give

  14. you some points why being part of the local church

  15. is important for you. Number one, the church is where

  16. God will mold you. The church equips you. How do

  17. I know the church? It's a place where God will

  18. mow you. How many of you have gotten hurt in

  19. church before I'll be the first to raise my hand.

  20. How many of you here have stepped on each other

  21. stores before I'll be the first to raise my hand.

  22. Of course, we will step on each other stores. We're

  23. so close. We are family right in church, we are

  24. called to be family, and you know we're family. Sometimes

  25. it hurts the mosa right because we're doing life together.

  26. Things happen. We all have our good days, our bad days.

  27. And this is where I know for a fact that

  28. if you rule yourself down in the church, you definitely

  29. get hurt. Oh what yes, But it's true, the hurting

  30. when we all overcome that God will moral ess this

  31. environment that God put us in, right, it is mandated

  32. by God. It is something that is instructed by the Lord.

  33. Together as believers the seed, know that we will get

  34. We will hurt each other. Of course, Jesus himself was

  35. hurt by his closest but yet he's still robred with

  36. them after he resurrected, even after betrayal, isn't it. But

  37. this is the place, my friends, that God will mold you.

  38. I would even be bold and daring to say this

  39. is where being part of a local church. Being part

  40. of the local church is where God will bring you

  41. closer to His purpose and destiny in your life. If

  42. you're not part of a local church. I'm not saying

  43. it's impossible. God knows, but based on my experience, and

  44. what I've seen usually is in and through the church,

  45. and you find yourself first discovering your purpose, then fulfilling

  46. your purpose. It is in the church that you learn

  47. things like serving right, You learn things like honor, submission, discipleship, leadership.

  48. I think in church you learn this more than you

  49. learn it in school or the marketplace. It's in church

  50. that you learn about humility, really true humility. It's in

  51. church where you learn about, you know, serving one another.

  52. Marketplace can be quite cutrual. Probably there's something that people

  53. don't advise. But yet in church we are told to

  54. put others first, to love our neighbors. We are told

  55. to submit. Ah, this one, this is a very rare,

  56. tough word to swallow. Right, submission. But yeah, it is

  57. in the church that a lot teaches us submission, isn't it,

  58. discipleship and leadership. I can tell you a lot of

  59. I've heard so many testimonies of employment where our fresh

  60. grads go for work, apply jobs. I know some of

  61. you have testimonies like this where the employer, the moment

  62. they found out you're a Christian, they immediately trust you.

  63. I've heard multiple stories and testimonies like this. Why the

  64. employers always say I trust you because you fear godard

  65. they're scared of godlaran sk of doing the wrong thing.

  66. One can trust you. I can trust you more. They

  67. know that believers have more integrity suppose a leader. I

  68. pray that all of us have more credit integrity than

  69. othersta in the way we do business, in the way

  70. we deal with people. They know that Christians have a

  71. deep conscience of right and wrong, stand for why it's right,

  72. and to oppose what is wrong. Even the people in

  73. the marketplace knows this. That we as believers learn all

  74. of this in church. This is the safest place. I

  75. tell you to mess up. This is the safest place

  76. for you to learn leadership. And if you mess up,

  77. I hope not intentionally. But if you mess up, know that.

  78. And I'm not saying if when all of us will

  79. mess up. But this is a safe environment, loving environment

  80. us to grow. It is in church, when I grew

  81. up in church, that I learn how to organize events.

  82. I learned how to MC I learned how to play instruments.

  83. And it is from that that actually when I started

  84. doing corporate stuff in my freelance work, that I could

  85. apply all of this right and the marketplace finds all

  86. these things valuable. But yet it is in the church

  87. in a very interesting way that God equips us the

  88. most rather than outside. So I hope that's the first

  89. point I have for you. Hope you guys know this

  90. and believe in this church is where God will mold

  91. you and where the church, the church is all the

  92. place where God will equip you. Second point, the church

  93. is your golley counsel. Right, this is a place where

  94. the leader's journey with you. And if the leader's journey

  95. with you, they know you, they will be able to

  96. give you godly council. Number three, the church praise for you.

  97. There's a place where we pray really for all your needs.

  98. Every time you guys have a need, we pray, do you, guys,

  99. I don't know if you guys are already part of

  100. the ex church broadcast channel on telegram. Most of the

  101. things that are actually pray your requests and we pray.

  102. The church prays for you and with you. Before the

  103. Church resources you. If you go out to the marketplace

  104. and you're the reach of friend, you go like, how

  105. do I be a sort and lighter in my marketplace?

  106. The Church will equip you, and I believe we have

  107. been equipping, we have been guiding you, We have been

  108. teaching right to tell you how you can actually be

  109. a blessing in your missions field. The Church resources you

  110. whatever materials. You are very blessed. You have a lot

  111. of books to teach us principles and teachers not just

  112. principles but also practical stuff methods. Right, the church provides

  113. covering over you, or this is a church where we

  114. go like, hey, you're under a covering. If your path

  115. all flow, you're under our covering. Therefore we look up

  116. for you. I appreach about this when I shared about

  117. discipleship right, that when you come under the discipleship, you

  118. cannot come under the covering of the discipler. It's almost

  119. like you have the seal. It means that you're not

  120. on your own. You know, if anything happens to you,

  121. we are with you and right, and when there's covering,

  122. that's annoying thing. I preach about this as well. Right,

  123. when you're under the covering of a church, there is

  124. an anointing. The annointing that is upon the church will

  125. also flow to you. This is a kingdom principle. You know,

  126. just that I mentioned the Antioch church was Palls or

  127. Saul's home base. How do I know this? We go

  128. to continue looking X Chapter fourteen, twenty six to twenty seven.

  129. I'm gonna read this this. Finally they returned by ship.

  130. This is after their first mission trip. Okay, finally they

  131. returned by ship to Antioch of Syria. Where is What

  132. is Antioch? Their home church where their journey had begun.

  133. That's where they started. Now they're back. The believers there

  134. had entrusted them. Oh do you notice this? The church

  135. entrusted them to go and be sort light. There was

  136. an assignment. The believers there entrusted them, to the grace

  137. of God to do the work they had now completed.

  138. So once they finished, they come back. Upon arriving in Antioch,

  139. they called the church together and reported everything God had

  140. done through them, and how He had opened the door

  141. faith to the gentiles too. And they stayed there with

  142. the believers for a long time. I won't bring us

  143. for a few points. Number one, Paul returned home to

  144. bring reports testimonies of the work that the Lord had

  145. done through them. In the same way. You know, I'm

  146. sure you guys share at homes as well, wah. Last

  147. week at a workplace, I had a colleague that was

  148. in need. I had an opportunity to pray and something happened.

  149. You guys also bring back reports to the church, and

  150. many times I think for myself, I would say, thank

  151. you for praying for me. Right, Well, thank you for

  152. your prayers. And that's what the church we do. When

  153. you guys go out, we pray for you, right and

  154. when you guys come back, we've good reports, we rejoice

  155. with you. See they saw and Bannombers were accountable to

  156. the church. If your impression of missions is that they

  157. do things on their own, missionaries, this is not biblical.

  158. Missionaries should always tie themselves to the church. That's the

  159. healthy way of doing it. I'm going to share a

  160. little bit more about that. Of course, today there will

  161. be many people who argue that I don't have to

  162. be part of a local church do missions. I go

  163. wherever the spirit leads me. I'm going to share a

  164. few bibilical principles later and maybe a little bit of

  165. my own story to bring across this truth. Okay, next,

  166. are you guys staying with me? I see people yawning,

  167. falling asleep, heay, bear with me. Okay, there's the world

  168. of God, all right. So I talked about how being

  169. part of the local church is important because it is

  170. your home base. It is where you'll be equipped, is

  171. where you be covered, is where we will pray for you,

  172. all right. And just share a little bit of story.

  173. When I went for a three months missions with Logos Hope,

  174. and you guys have heard some of my stories about that.

  175. I did not go on my own account. I heard

  176. from the Lord. Firstly, the Holy Spirit spoke to me

  177. and say, Stephen, I want you to put now, lay

  178. down everything for the next three months, even keep your graduation,

  179. to go for missions. And the moment I had this

  180. one of my criterias with this. For me to go,

  181. I told God, I said, God, for me to go,

  182. the church has to bless me. My local church have

  183. to send me. They have to be the sending church.

  184. I won't go on my own a car because I

  185. know Bible. Bible says it has to be sent from

  186. the church. So I spoke to my pastor. Oh, my

  187. pastor at that time, I lead up, go, no need approval,

  188. already approve we sent you. And of course the church

  189. supported supported me. A little bit financially as well, and

  190. different ones came around me. I got uh, I got

  191. enough missions funds for me to be sent out, and

  192. throughout my time there, it was really comforting to know

  193. that every Sunday in church they were praying for Stevenson

  194. who is now sailing across the ocean, someone who cannot

  195. pray for him more. But they prayed every week, and

  196. I would get my pastor or different leaders would sometimes

  197. send me a mess they saying, hey, by the way,

  198. just to let you know we have been praying for

  199. you every week. I tell you that itself was enough

  200. to feel me to keep going on days, even though

  201. it was just three months. But on days I feel discourage.

  202. I remember, oh, my church is praying for me every week,

  203. some of them even every day. I'm sure my parents

  204. were praying every day out of here, please bring our

  205. son back in one piece. Right. But to know that

  206. the local church is praying for me was such a

  207. strength in my work. And of course what I did

  208. was I also send news letters back every two weeks

  209. to share about press reports. Thank you for praying for me,

  210. and I will share about prayer requests. Please pray for me.

  211. I fallen sick. Please pray for me for this. I

  212. you not I have gotten conflict with someone else in

  213. the same team. That was my prayer request. Oh, pray

  214. that we will reconcile, that our has to be clean

  215. when we do the work of God. And I said,

  216. and the church you would tell me we pray for you.

  217. Your prayer points we pray for you, right, and they would.

  218. And I will send their prayer reposent and sometimes they'll

  219. come back. They will read it and they'll go like, h,

  220. pray Scott for what you have done, what God has

  221. done to you. And that continued to feel me for

  222. the work that the Lord has sat in front of me.

  223. I cannot imagine doing this without a local church on

  224. my own, even though I had fellow missionaries. But I

  225. can tell you the encouragement from the local church was

  226. the one that pushed me forward. And tell you, I'm

  227. telling you this from experience. You may not feel this

  228. with a two day's missions, oh man, but I felt

  229. it with a three month's missions. Anything more than two weeks,

  230. you'll be glad that there's a church praying for you.

  231. It can be very lonely. Sometimes I spent Christmas and

  232. I spent Christmas for the first time away from home.

  233. Oh I felt it. Man, oh man, my first time

  234. I was looking. Oh and this was when I was

  235. back in my uh Penang church. Right when I've said,

  236. I was in my Penang church and I was looking.

  237. And we have like Christmas Eve services and actually we

  238. don't do have that, but there's a countdown, you know.

  239. We start service at nine pm and service and then

  240. we'll pull on some programs. Usually we'll do a musical.

  241. All right. I was part of that, very much part

  242. of that for ten years. I danced for ten years,

  243. was a dancer. But it took me ten years to

  244. realize I can't really dance, okay, but yeah, ten years

  245. and we do that. So when I was on the

  246. on the ship right emissions, I was looking at my time,

  247. you know, and then plus the time difference, I was

  248. going at this time they start worship. Really, I'm here,

  249. ye're there, Well, at this time, this is happening. Now

  250. we are counting down redieve for Christmas. I really felt

  251. it a bit of loneliness because away from family. But

  252. what helped me was that they remember me. They remember

  253. me in prayer. They are constantly praying for me. They

  254. are constantly thinking about me, and that, I tell you

  255. is an encouragement like none other when I'm out in

  256. the missions field. Then the question now to us is

  257. does it have to be just when we are out

  258. literally doing missions that only we have the Church do

  259. that for us. Actually, you know that the leaders pray

  260. for all of us, even in your marketplace ministry. God

  261. puts sometimes names in my heart through the day, and

  262. I'll just take a break and pray for you, and

  263. some of you would know this. I would check in

  264. on you sometimes drop attacks. Hey, how are things going?

  265. I heard about this? You know, God, God put your

  266. name in my heart today. Sometimes that will happen. Pray,

  267. you know that is the Church covering you know, it's

  268. not just the leadership or Passus Stevens covering. That is

  269. the Church covering over you. And as you are out

  270. calling for the Lord in where God has sent you

  271. to in the marketplace. Wow. One encouragement to know that

  272. the Church is praying with you, that you're not alone,

  273. and that you can bring back good reports testimony is

  274. praise God. But if you bring back bad reports, it's okay.

  275. We're with you. We're cheering you on all right, okay,

  276. next point, your mission should not replace the church. Now,

  277. why I'm saying this is because there are many people

  278. who think that Nolah, I just do marketplace ministry church

  279. all It's okay, Lah, are already serving in my marketplace.

  280. Don't need to serve in church. I want to tell

  281. you this biblically speaking, your mission should not replace the church.

  282. If you look at soul and bundables, they came back,

  283. they gathered the church. They recognize that their missions were

  284. not replacements to their service to the church, or even

  285. as a replacement to This is my home right. Missions

  286. field is where you are constantly giving, But the home

  287. church is where you'll be fed and you'll be refreshed. Now,

  288. to your pre believing friends, this may be true that

  289. you as a person are the church to them, But

  290. to all of us who are believing, this is the church,

  291. the gathering of believers. Your friends were believing friends. Of course,

  292. they may not come to church, lives not that THINGMA.

  293. So they see you as a church. So that I

  294. hope we can separate that. That is true, you are

  295. the church to them, but for you, you are not

  296. the church to yourself. Church for you is a gathering

  297. of believers. I hope we can separate that. Okay, to

  298. your pre believing friends, that may remain true, But for us,

  299. this is church. They're coming together, all right. So let's remember,

  300. let's not be so occupied with evangelism outreach missions that

  301. it becomes an excuse not to be a church. Will

  302. there be periods of time where you may need to

  303. excuse yourself from just because you're on a mission field.

  304. Of course, that was what Saul and vanna Us were doing.

  305. They're out planting churches. But they still came back. You see,

  306. they still came back. So remember, your mission should not

  307. replace your church. Your mission is not your church. Two

  308. different things. Lastly, the church is God's plan. The church

  309. is designed and ordained by God. When you serve the church,

  310. you serve God's plan. When we recognize that the church

  311. is established by God, when we start to remember that,

  312. we will not argue about the place of the church. Really,

  313. because Christ himself is the head of the church. Christ

  314. is the bridegroom to the Church, which is his bride. Therefore,

  315. the church has always been God's plan. I had people

  316. who tell me I don't even go to church life,

  317. just be to me and God only my relationship. Right.

  318. I can oh globalization, I can attend church everywhere online.

  319. I've heard this many times, but there has never been

  320. God's intention and design. God's intention is for us to

  321. be rooted down in one and to grow the church,

  322. to build the church. When you start serving the church,

  323. you serve God's plan. When you serve the church, you

  324. serve Jesus the heat of the church. Route down in

  325. the church, serve the church, be discipled and disciple others.

  326. This my encouragement and this is a plan. Can I

  327. say this for all of us to route down to serve,

  328. to be discippled and disap others for instand right now,

  329. I just want to do a call out to say,

  330. if you're not serving yet, Serf, build the house together?

  331. Will you join us to build this house? I also

  332. want to share this. We are now very lean at

  333. the moment. We have leaders now having to wear multiple

  334. hats to serve multiple roles per Sunday. Are we complaining?

  335. I can tell you none of the leaders are complaining.

  336. Actually they even offer. But I want to say this,

  337. when we do it together, when we share the Lord,

  338. there's such beauty in building the house together all right.

  339. I also want to say this they self a bit stronger.

  340. Don't wait for us to invite you personally, come and

  341. talk to us. There's so many people to talk to

  342. for us. I can tell you my leaders know this.

  343. Every Sunday, I'm like, I'm trying to catch different ones

  344. to catch up for a short time, and I'm thankful

  345. for my leaders for releasing me do that. I used

  346. to have to be involved in different things after service

  347. to help, but the leaders have released me to allow

  348. me to go and connect different ones, to catch as

  349. many of you, to catch up with you, check in

  350. on you as much as I can. All right. So

  351. if you're waiting for a personal invitation and he has

  352. not come yet, please forgive me, Please forgive me. But

  353. I do hope, I do hope that you will offer

  354. yourself to sow into the house of the Lord. Whichever area,

  355. all right, I can tell you every area we are

  356. looking for people. All right. You're even seeing leaders stepping

  357. up to do things that are not comfortable with, like sharing.

  358. See the two ladies laughing very loud in France, because

  359. I can tell you this, this is very out of

  360. the comfort zone for them. Yeah, very right. But they're

  361. doing it. They're setting an example. Right, So let's do this.

  362. Let's build the house of the lot together. Let's serve

  363. and know that when you serve the House of the latter,

  364. you're not serving a corporation. You're serving Jesus. You're serving

  365. the apple of his eye. You know, the church, all right,

  366. So come on, I want to employ and encourage all

  367. of us. Let's serve the house. Let's serve the house.

  368. I'm just gonna show you a little graph when you

  369. go out for it, and we teach this to missionaries

  370. in the same way when you go out to your

  371. marketplace as a missionary. This is a healthy cycle. The

  372. church prepares you, then the church sends you out. You

  373. are the laborer. The laborers will then labor, and then

  374. the laborers will come back and the process repeats. Remember

  375. I talk about the rescue board. It having to come back.

  376. It needs to come back to reveal. The rescuers have

  377. to sleep and rest because if not, they put themselves

  378. at rice. And not only they can't rescue people, they

  379. can't rescue themselves. Then they become a heavier burden. Not

  380. another rescue board has to be sent to go and

  381. save them it has happened, so in the same way

  382. for us when we come back, know that it's This

  383. is the healthy cycle. The church preparees ues, the church

  384. encourages us that we go, we be sortid light, and

  385. we labor for the Lord, and then we come back

  386. with reports, We come back with prayer requests. We come

  387. back saying, oh Josiah, I'm so tired and my workplace,

  388. I tried to share the gospel, but I got prosecuted.

  389. Come back and then we comfort we men your wounds,

  390. and then we encourage you, we equip you again, and

  391. then you feel refresh your strengthened. Okay, I'm okay, now

  392. I'm ready now, and then we send you out again,

  393. and the cycle repeats. That is the proper way of

  394. being sent out to reach out. We don't just send

  395. you out and leave you Okay, bye bye, Go be

  396. a blessing in your missions field, and then we just

  397. don't care about you anymore. No, that's why it's so

  398. important to be part of the local church. Right, you

  399. will have to call the local church your church, because

  400. unless until you say that, there will be no covering. Amen.

  401. We can try. But then it's very important that it

  402. is yourself, ourselves recognize that the local church is important.

  403. Coming to the end now, I want to talk about

  404. a tree. When a seed is planted in the soil,

  405. it will grow roots. Right in the same manner, when

  406. we are planted in a church, you grow to become

  407. a healthy tree. If you're not rooted in a church,

  408. you'll find your face stunted. You'll find your ministry ineffective,

  409. you'll find your outreach after a certain level, we'll start

  410. to stagnate and not bad food. That's why the church

  411. is where you should plant yourself in to grow your roots.

  412. The church is a good ground. That means you can

  413. grow roots deep. But first you got to plant yourself in.

  414. That means it's going to be uncomfortable. You got to

  415. root yourself in instead of being free as a sea

  416. to fly wherever, right, But you have to be rooted down.

  417. But it is out of this that you grow. Recently,

  418. I had a plant. I didn't prepare the picture. I

  419. have a plan that has been surviving with me for

  420. four years now, about four years now, but recently, as

  421. I was pruning it, I accidentally snacked on one of

  422. the roots. It had multiple multiple How do I say

  423. there are multiple of the same plants in one part

  424. that I have, but for one way I accidentally snagged,

  425. and the leaves are all very green and lush. It's

  426. like a fresh what do you call that branch that

  427. came out. I accidentally snacked on it, right, And then

  428. week by week I see the green lash leaves with

  429. the way and I felt like, oh no, I've lost

  430. this particular branch alreally and I'll have to uproot that

  431. one soon. In the same way, the longer we are

  432. out of church, it's almost like a plant that's uprooted.

  433. You won't survive long and you start finding yourself falling away,

  434. not from church but from the faith. I've seen so

  435. many of my friends going through that, and for them

  436. to come back it's difficult, not impossible, it's difficult because

  437. they have uprooted themselves. That's why my encouragement to campus

  438. students every time they come to study is or they

  439. go away overseas, is within three months grouped down in

  440. a church, take time to find look around churches, right,

  441. but don't take too long, because anything longer than three

  442. months you find yourself falling away. I've seen this in

  443. my own life. Statistically, my friends. Right, so very important

  444. to keep yourself rooted the same way as I shared

  445. rescue boat out of sea for too long risks loss

  446. of feel for tike of crew. It not only becomes

  447. ineffective in saving others, it puts the rescuer at risk.

  448. If you're not planted in your local church, you'll run

  449. out of field, you will burn out. You have no

  450. one to mend your injuries and your heart. Right in

  451. the church, you get that, all right. In the church,

  452. you get reminders of remember the rest, remember not to

  453. make serving and ministry your idol. You get reminders like this,

  454. and these are things that will help continue to feel

  455. you to move forward and to be effective in the

  456. calling that God has given you. All right, So here's

  457. my encouragement to you. Don't just be part of a

  458. local church. Be part of building the church. It doesn't

  459. take you don't have to be a leader to build

  460. the house. All of us can play a part in

  461. building the house by doing what we can. I love

  462. it that when we have our new new partners, welcome tee,

  463. one of our new partners of our name, who say it,

  464. what's next? But of course we lave lah right, But

  465. that person say this, no, honestly, what's next? I really

  466. want to know. And I say, remember the answer that

  467. we gave. Whatever you're able to do, whatever your capacity,

  468. do it for the house. That's what's next. And I

  469. pray that will be our spirit for all of us here.

  470. And I tell you, if all of us plow the

  471. ground build this church together, I can tell you this,

  472. We're going to be a blessing to so many people,

  473. so many God will open your eyes and bless you

  474. in so many ways. True, you're calling the church. Amen.

  475. We hope you've been blessed by this message. For more
