You're listening to a message to go from acts church.
-
We hope this message will light up your day.
-
What is the difference between hunger and appetite? What's the
-
difference between hunger and appetite? Tough question, right, Kayla? All right,
-
that's quite a good analogy, so I would give you
-
all the definition. Actually, it's quite in line with that.
-
It's desire versus need. Appetite is what you desire. Need
-
is what your body needs. All right. So when you
-
have an ay, do you have an appetite for uh, broccoli?
-
You're like no, But if your body is hungry and
-
you've got nothing else to eat there, you'll probably eat
-
it because your body is that there is a need
-
for it. But do you have an appetite for it?
-
Not really, okay? And appetite is the desire for food,
-
while hunger is the body's need for food. So when
-
we are fasting, what are we doing? What are we doing?
-
We are sort of putting aside food. I mean, one
-
of the most basic ways of fasting is abstaining from food,
-
right of course, right now, there's a lot more variations.
-
Some abstain from social media, some abstain from various other things.
-
But again, when for the context of today's sharing, I'm
-
talking about food. Okay, So when we are fasting, we
-
say that, Hey, when I'm fasting, I'm very hungry. Okay,
-
so I'm depriving my body of food, all right. But
-
and you know, when you're fasting, right, your desire gets higher, Right,
-
your desire gets higher. Suddenly all the food is very nice.
-
Suddenly everything's delicious, you know, Like, but when you're full,
-
nothing is appetizing. You could have the best food in
-
front of you and it would not be ampetizing. Okay,
-
So how does that tie in to our fasting because
-
it is fasting purely hunger or is it about our appetite?
-
Because hunger is not just about depriving. This is again,
-
this was me trying to make sense of why is
-
it difficult for me to fast? Okay? So I'm asking
-
y'all to just follow me on my journey in terms
-
of how I made sense of it. Okay. So I
-
was like, why is it so difficult for me to fast?
-
Is it because I have to abstain something? Then only
-
I realized that, hey, it's not only about depriving myself,
-
but what's my appetite? Do I have an appetite for
-
food or do I have an appetite for the things
-
of God? So fast thing could just mean that your
-
appetite for the things of God is higher than your
-
appetite for food. It is not that you have no
-
appetiti No, you are shifting the focus of your appetite
-
from food to God. And this is one way that
-
I can sort of summarize what fasting is. Next, fasting
-
is feasting on the Word. Well, fasting from the world.
-
That is what fasting is. That is what fasting is.
-
It is about feasting on the Word and fasting from
-
the world. If you take away the first part, what
-
is it? If you take out feasting from the Word,
-
what does it become? If you take out feasting on
-
the word, what does it become? It becomes diret loard.
-
You know, if you take away just if instead of
-
just abstaining from food and you do not feast yourself
-
on the Word of God, what it is no difference
-
than just going on a diet. But in fact, we
-
are changing our appetite from what the world, what our
-
body requires, to filling it with what God wants us
-
to be filled with. Right, so that we did this
-
in mind, and I was like, oh, okay, so fasting
-
is not about just me being hungry and skipping a meal.
-
I need to feast on the word of God. Okay.
-
So knowing that again y'all that are fasting, right, I
-
wanted to ask y'all the next question next fast things
-
finish line. So we are fasting twenty one days, right,
-
So at the end of twenty one days, what do
-
you hope to accomplish? What do you hope to accomplish?
-
Because right in everything that we do, there has to
-
be a why. We may be just doing it because
-
a the whole church is doing it corporately possible, Okay,
-
so that would be a why. But for me, I
-
was thinking that why is fasting difficult for me? Because
-
I didn't have a strong why. Why am I doing it?
-
And what do I hope to accomplish at the end
-
of fasting? Because if I am the same person at
-
the end of the twenty one days, then I just
-
abstained from food but nothing else changed. And then when
-
that happens, it's very easy to give up fasting none
-
because there is no goal at the end of the
-
twenty one days. For some of us, of course, the
-
goal will be you listed down your prayer items, and
-
the goal is that God will come true for you
-
for your prayer items, and God will that God is
-
a good God, and in his timing he will give
-
you your breakthrough. But that is God's part. But what
-
is our part? What is our part after the twenty
-
one days? What do we need to do or what
-
do we need to accomplish after the twenty one days? Okay,
-
So all these questions were playing in my head. I
-
just put it down in slides and unjumble them in
-
my mind and put it here. So I went back
-
to scripture and went back to the Bible and said, okay,
-
since it's discipleship, I have to learn from Jesus, live
-
like Jesus, and teach about Jesus. What did Jesus say
-
about fasting and how did he live while fasting? Right?
-
So let's turn to scripture Matthew chapter four. So this
-
is when Jesus fasted. Okay. The context of the story
-
is Jesus, who is the son of God who came
-
down to earth. He also fasted. Okay, so he says here,
-
then Jesus was led by the spirit into the wilderness
-
to be tempted there by the devil. For forty days
-
and forty nights, he fasted and became very hungry. During
-
that time, the devil came and said to him, if
-
you are the son of God, tell these stones to
-
become loaves of bread. But Jesus told him no, that
-
scripture says people do not live by bread alone, but
-
by every word that comes from the mouth of God. Okay,
-
so this is the first one. Next light, then the
-
devil took him to the Holy City Jerusalem, to the
-
highest point of the temple, and said, if you are
-
the son of God, jump off, for the scriptures say
-
he will order his angels to protect you, and they
-
will hold you up with their hands, so you won't
-
even hurt your foot on a stone. Jesus responded, the
-
scriptures also say you must not test the Lord your God.
-
And the final one. Next, the devil took him to
-
the peak of a very high mountain and showed him
-
all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. I
-
will give it all to you, he said, if you
-
kneel down and worship me, get out of here, satan.
-
Jesus told him, for the scriptures say you must worship
-
the Lord your God, and serve only him. Then the
-
devil went away and the angels came and took care
-
of Jesus. Okay, So if you have been in church
-
long enough, you would have probably heard this story. Jesus
-
his fasting was supernatural. It's forty days in the wilderness. Okay,
-
that is crazy. And how you know that Jesus was
-
man because it stays here that he became very hungry, right,
-
so he was both God and man. He also experienced
-
what man experienced. And then we know that after that time,
-
the devil came to tempt him. Okay, So as I
-
was reading this, I saw that Jesus was so fasted,
-
and he was tempted most of the times previously. What
-
I would do is I would focus that, oh, Jesus
-
must have been very very weak. Right after you fasted
-
for forty days physically, you must be really weak, you
-
ask me, at your lowest point, and that is when
-
the devil comes and tempts you and attacks you and
-
stuff like that. But I think the Holy Spirit gave
-
me a revelation that, Hey, who said Jesus was weak?
-
Because it's just said here that Jesus was hungry. Okay,
-
Jesus was hungry, and probably physically he was weak, but
-
did you know that spiritually he was strong. He was
-
much stronger spiritually forty days after fasting than he was before.
-
And that was a revelation to me. I was like, Wow,
-
after fasting, instead of becoming weaker, Jesus became stronger. And
-
when he became stronger, whatever the enemy true at him,
-
it had no power. It had no power at all.
-
And I said, wow, that is the kind of fasting
-
I want. I want to fast. I might be hungry,
-
but spiritually I want to be able to be so
-
strong that no weapon formed against me will prosper. Right,
-
So there are three points today that I wanted to
-
share in terms of what is probably the finish line
-
that we can aspire to while fasting. So if you
-
have if you're fasting, great, If you're not fasting, you
-
can probably consider fasting as well. Because again, while I
-
was doing this, then I realized, why does fasting only
-
have to be once a year? Fasting can be any time.
-
The only reason why we're doing it once a year.
-
It is like a it's a drill. It's a drill
-
where we use it together do it together as the
-
whole church, you know, so that we can it's easier.
-
But you can do fasting on your own as well. Okay.
-
And there's three h points that I want to bring across. Okay.
-
So the first one is spiritual supply. It all starts
-
with s. Okay, first one is spiritual supply. When we
-
are hungry, what is speaking to us? It is our flesh, right,
-
it is our flesh, you know, our flesh is saying that, hey,
-
I'm hungry, you know, just to to sort of preach
-
to myself, right, I want. I told myself, I'm gonna
-
I'm going to preach this fastest. I'm like, I need to.
-
I need That's what I'm telling you. This is my
-
journey that I'm going to I'm going to preach this fastest.
-
I want to show that, Hey, God, I want to
-
experience what your word says that I do not need
-
physical food to do what you have called me to do.
-
If I depend on you spiritually, then I can do
-
what you need me to do. Right. So the first
-
one is overcoming the temptation of the flesh. So just now,
-
I told you all right, when we went to Beacon Resort,
-
we're considering, Hey, holiday, you need to fast, not you know,
-
actually you do need faster. You know, we're trying to rationalize,
-
you know, us rationalize, rationalizing lies. That's what rationalize is
-
you're making lies and you're making it make you know who,
-
we are selling the lies to yourself. You're the best
-
salesperson and you will buy your own good one. That's
-
what rationalizing is. You know what is right, but you
-
rationalize and you you say that, hey, actually it's okay one,
-
you know, it's it's fine. When God will understand, you know,
-
all these kind of thoughts go into your mind. But
-
what is happening is your flesh is winning. Your flesh
-
is winning, and that's what God. I mean. I was
-
caught in that scenario as well, you know, like, hey,
-
how come, uh, I'm rationalizing, you know. And we are
-
sometimes very afraid of discomfort. You know that it is
-
okay to feel this comfort. When we are hungry, first
-
instinct is we look for food. You know, there's this theory,
-
it's called this the Pavlovian Ah, what the where is
-
this thing? Yeah? Yeah, I forgot the actual work, but
-
is there's this scientist he did a study on the
-
Pavlovian effect. So what happens, right, you know, he noticed
-
that dogs, ah, whenever they see food, they start celebrating,
-
you know. So what he did is like, hey, so
-
is the dog celebrating because of the food or because
-
of something else, or because he saw the person that
-
is bringing the food or whatever it is. So what
-
he decided to do is he decided to test anytime
-
the food was brought they rang a bell. They rang
-
a bell. So after a while, what he did is
-
he rang the bell without bringing the food. So the dogs,
-
they soon caught on the habit that anytime there is food,
-
there will be the sound of the bell. And when
-
there's the sound of the bell, they will start cealibrating.
-
Then what the scientists did is he stopped bringing food,
-
but he just ring the bell. What do you think happened?
-
The dogs started salivating as well, because it is the flash.
-
You know, it has preconditioned your mind that anytime there
-
is a bell, food is coming. And that's why I
-
have to salivate. And sometimes we have conditioned ourselves. Anytime
-
we are hungry, we need to feed ourselves. I cannot
-
be hungry on I cannot be hungry, you know, and
-
like like sometimes like my kids, if they watch TV,
-
then suddenly it must have something to munch. You know,
-
you go to movie, I must have pop corner must
-
it's you don't need it, but it's an appetite that
-
is pre conditioned. It's pre conditioned there and sometimes right
-
we are being preconditioned by the world. Like everything that
-
our emotions tell us, we need to fulfill it immediately.
-
If it's too hot, I need to find a place
-
that is cooler. If I'm uncomfortable, I have to find
-
a place that is more comfortable. If it's too loud,
-
I need to place find a place that is softer.
-
Instead of adapting and growing, we are fleeing. And because
-
of that we cannot grow, you know. But spiritually God
-
wants us to grow. So one of the ways fast
-
thing is when you feel hungry, it's okay, how many
-
of y'all know you first, one meal won't die one
-
We all know that. I think all of us look
-
very healthy, you know, very healthy. You won't die. But
-
just saying that a I will not say yes to
-
my flesh, but I will commit it to God, you know.
-
So let me go to some scripture next. So this
-
was the scripture. During that time, the devil came to
-
and said to him, if you are the son of God,
-
tell these stones to become loaves of bread. But Jesus
-
told him no. The scripture says people do not live
-
by bread alone, but by every word that comes from
-
the mouth of God. So previously, when I was reading this,
-
I'm like, what's the big deal. You have the power,
-
you are hungry, makes sense, right, just change the stone
-
to Brailah. But then what I realized is what God
-
revealed me is sometimes just because we have the power
-
to do something, it doesn't mean that it is in
-
line with God's will. You know, Jesus was not there
-
to fill his tummy. He was there to do the
-
will of the Father. And most of the times we
-
shot cut what God wants to do with us by
-
taking things into our hands and feeding ourselves. So an
-
example was Abraham. God promised Abraham that he will have
-
a son ninety nine years already, No son, How would
-
you pending on it? If you're Abraham, you'll be like God.
-
The whole generation depends on I mean ninety nine, I
-
mean ninety nine years old. The whole sand I mean,
-
my generation would be like my descendants will be as
-
many as the sand on the sea and the stars
-
in the sky. But ninety nine are still dry. How
-
I think God forgot or maybe he's busy. And what
-
did the fleshly desire? You take the shortcut? You take
-
the short cut. God does not forget God's promises. A
-
yes and amen. And when we are able to summit
-
ourselves to him and say that God, I do not
-
know how you're going to come true for me. I
-
don't see the money. I don't see Hey, do I
-
have to go and take a loan from the loan shot?
-
All these are real questions, and I have to pay
-
the bills. My kids are hungry. I have so much
-
of needs. But when you seek God, what does he
-
tell you to do? Because he says here right, people
-
do not live by bread alone, but by every word
-
that comes from the mouth of God. Do you know
-
that the words that come from the mouth of God
-
are more powerful than bread? Because there are so many
-
promises in the world of God, And all we have
-
to do is to silence our flesh and listen, God,
-
what are you telling me? Okay? Next verse, Therefore, dear
-
brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what
-
your sinful nature urges you to do. For if you
-
live by what it detates, you will die. But if
-
true the power of the spirit, you put to death
-
the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live. Okay.
-
So you see here I give into the flesh, we
-
will give into sinful nature. I think, for example, right,
-
like fasting, right, I was thinking, why is it so
-
difficult for me to fast? But and also like, for example,
-
going to work, say going to work every day? Okay,
-
if you go to work every day, you may or
-
may not like your job, but you turn up every day.
-
It's a discipline, you know, because it is what I mean.
-
You're being paid for it, of course. But if you
-
have that commitment and you do what it takes, you
-
die to yourself. How many of y'all loved your Monday
-
morning alarm clocks? You don't write, but you die to self.
-
If you can die to self for your boss, why
-
not to God? You know? So when we die yourself
-
and say, hey, we don't give into our sinful nature,
-
because this is what God wants me to do, and
-
I will do what is pleasing to him. Next verse,
-
when you follow the desires of your sinful nature. The
-
results are very clear. Sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy,
-
outburst of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties,
-
and other sins like this. Let me tell you again
-
as I have before, that anyone living that sort of
-
life will not inherit the Kingdom of God. But the
-
Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness,
-
and self control. There is no law against these things.
-
Can you see the first part right that is highlighted
-
up there, the sexual immorality, impurity, laschical pleasures. You know
-
what is the flesh hungering? For they are desired. The
-
flesh is desiring for pleasure. And can you see that
-
the world is giving more, giving in more and more
-
to the pleasures of the that the flesh desires. And
-
when you give into the pleasures of the flesh, right,
-
it is like a monster, and it will one more
-
and more and more. What satisfied you before will not
-
satisfy you later. You will need more and more. So
-
that's why the war world is becoming more and more
-
immoral because we are feeding our fleshly desires. So you
-
know the story of the the two Wolves. I'm not
-
sure that. So there's this guy. He was talking to
-
his grandson and then the grandfather is telling your grandson, Uh,
-
do you know in every person there are two wolves.
-
One wolf is a good wolf and one The good
-
wolf will help you and achieve everything that you need
-
to do, and the bad wolf will destroy you. So
-
the boy asked the grandfather, how wish wolf wins? Which
-
wolf wins? You know what? The grandfather said, the wolf
-
that you feed. So which wolf are you feeding? Are
-
you feeding the desires of your flesh or are you
-
feeding the desires of the spirit what God desires? And
-
that's why the first point was that we wanted spiritual supply.
-
Fasting will help us replenish our spiritual supply. If we
-
are not replenishing our spiritual supply, we are filling it
-
with fleshly supply, and fleshly supply will lead to all
-
of this, Okay, all right, And so that's the first
-
point spiritual supply. Second point secular severance or very big words.
-
I was like thinking, how to make this easier. But
-
I thought, okay, big words or make it sound most
-
but it is true secular severance, so overcoming temptation of pride?
-
What does this mean? Let me take us to the
-
scripture next. Then the devil took him to the Holy
-
City Jerusalem, to the highest point of the temple and said,
-
if you are the son of God, jump off, for
-
the scriptures say he will order his angels to protect you,
-
and they will hold you up with your hands so
-
you won't even hurt your foot on your on a stone.
-
Jesus responded, The scriptures also say you must not test
-
the Lord your God. Okay, so again, when you read this,
-
you'll be like, okay, what you have the power to do?
-
So you know, yeah, Jesus has the power to do so,
-
but he chose not to. Why do you think he
-
chose not to do so. If you have the power
-
to command angels at your will and to save you
-
or to do whatever you want, what would you do
-
if you have the power to you have the like,
-
for example, right, Jesus, if he did this, do you
-
think he will get famous? Right? You'll like show the
-
whole world. Wow, I can beckon angels at anything. You know,
-
I'm suddenly superman, or you can jump off, you can
-
have angels, you know, I'm immortal. I would die, you know,
-
But what does that have? What happens then? I think
-
Jesus realized, Oh, Jesus is trying to teach us that
-
it's not about us getting fame. Jesus didn't need to
-
be famous. Jesus didn't need to prove himself to anybody else.
-
Jesus didn't need to say that, hey, I'm the son
-
of God and that's why I can do this. So
-
all of y'all, you know, look at me. I'm great.
-
He did not need to do so. And the devil
-
will tempt us with pride because all of us want validation, right,
-
how many ons validation? Everyone's wants validation? Right. Everyone wants
-
to say, wow, you are amazing, you did a good job,
-
you're awesome, and stuff like that. But at what cost
-
would you pay for validation? You know us reading the
-
article right on article article, it's on Facebook. So recently
-
you know the Putra Heights explosion, right, So I remember
-
Danzel and me were like running back on Tuesday morning.
-
They were looking to the left. You're like seeing fireballs
-
in the sky. Like from Quota Kommuning. We can see
-
it was like huge, huge fireballs in the sky, you know,
-
and all of us know what happened that so many
-
people lost their homes. Thank god nobody died. But there
-
are still a number of people in the hospital right
-
They are injured, they have been burned, severe burns and
-
a lot of damages. But then what I read on
-
Facebook is right now influences are trying to go and
-
see all these victims to create content. They are going
-
there for the sake of getting publicity for themselves. They're
-
going there just to get more likes. They're going there
-
to prove to the world that hey, look at me,
-
I am kind, look at me, I care look at me.
-
And right now we are living in that kind of
-
world where if you look at it right again, there
-
are people who are genuine, you know. I see, like
-
suddenly so many car companies are loaning cars. I'm like,
-
how many cars can these people drive? You know, like
-
three or four car companies have loan cars and stuff
-
like that. Insurance companies also have waived different clauses and
-
stuff like that. Again, these are good things, but again,
-
what is the intention if it is done from the
-
intention to help people, then great, But if it's from
-
the intention to like, like I see some people are
-
donating money and all stuff like that. Right, it's good stuff,
-
But a lot of it is for publicity because you
-
need the camera man there, You need the cameraman that
-
you need publicity. It needs to come out here, it
-
needs to come out there. And then to say that, hey,
-
how good, what a good job I'm doing what I'm
-
trying to help, you know, and tying it back to this, right,
-
Jesus didn't have to prove a point. He didn't have
-
to prove a point and say that, hey I can
-
command angels, Hey I got the power to do so,
-
I can jump of the building. He did not. That's
-
why he said, you must not test the Lord, your God.
-
You must not. So what does that mean. It's just
-
do what God has called you to do. Don't do
-
it for the likes, don't do it for the publicity,
-
because when you do it, that's all the kudos you
-
will get. Now, if you get your kudos here on earth,
-
you may not get your kudos well done, my good
-
and faithful servant when you reach heaven. You know, because
-
the main thing is doing what God wants us to do. Okay,
-
next slide, do not love this world, not the things
-
it offers you. For when you love the world, you
-
do not have the love of the Father in you.
-
For the world offers only a crave for physical pleasure,
-
a craving for everything we see, and a pride in
-
our achievement and possessions. These are not from the Father,
-
but from this world. So when I am fasting, or
-
when all of us are fasting, we should be like
-
saying that God, less of me, more of you. We
-
should have less self pride and say that God, what
-
is it you want me to do? Even though it's
-
behind the scenes, even though there is no applause, Well,
-
I still do it. And that's what we are called
-
to do. Right next James faur and he gives grace generously,
-
as the scriptures say, God opposes the proud, but gives
-
grace to the humble. So humble yourselves before God. Resist
-
the devil and he will flee from you. Humble yourselves
-
before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.
-
Fasting is about humbling ourselves before God. When I realize
-
that is that Wow? When I fast it's about feeling
-
my spell selves spiritually. When I'm fast, it's about humbling
-
myself before God and separating, severing myself from the secular.
-
Severing myself from a secular means whatever is important to
-
the world in terms of fame and fortune or whatever
-
it is, if it's not aligned to what God has
-
for me, I want to cut it away. Okay. And
-
the last point is this stead fast spirit, steap fast spirit.
-
So it's a picture of an anchor, you know, right,
-
a ship and an anchor. I was starting to find
-
a picture of an anchor underwater with the ship. Now
-
I'm like, I don't think I can find the love
-
because it'll be super deep and be a very weird picture.
-
But anyway, you get the point. And anchor. When a
-
ship is anchored, right, the anchor goes down and it
-
locks into the ground. A ship that is not anchored
-
the moment the waves or the wind or whatever storm
-
hits it will be blown off cost And that is
-
what fasting is to us. Fast thing will help us
-
anchor ours spirit and no matter what comes away God,
-
we know that our spirit is strong, so it is
-
overcoming the temptation of power. Let me see the verse.
-
So the next the devil took him to the peak
-
of a very high mountain showed him all the kingdoms
-
of the world and their glory. I will give it
-
all to you if you will kneel down and worship
-
Mee down, get out of here, Satan, Jesus told him,
-
for the scriptures say you must worship the Lord your
-
God and serve only him. Then the devil went away,
-
and the angels came and took care of Jesus. Okay,
-
what I wanted us to focus on is verse nine.
-
I will give it all to you if you kneel
-
down and worship me. What is the price of your faith?
-
Is it a million bucks? Is it five million? Is
-
it ten million? Is it one hundred million? If you
-
can put a price on your faith, then it is
-
not anchored in Jesus, because what the devil just needs
-
to know is to know what's your price. Once he
-
knows your price, he will keep on a giving it
-
to you. He gives challenges you. And that's why that's
-
how bribes happen. Bribes is people knowing what's the value
-
of your integrity? How much is your integrity worth? If
-
I know the value, I pay you. That's it your mind.
-
Once you take a bride, right, you are hooked already
-
in terms of that you can't. You are scared that
-
the person can rat you out. You know that, and
-
then you are forever hooked. And that's what the devil
-
will do that because right he will tell us, okay,
-
what's your price? He will throw at us everything that
-
the world has to offer. It can be fame, it
-
can be fortune, it is power, anything. And if we
-
are not careful, if our spirit is not anchored, then
-
we will sway. So let's see some verses. No one
-
can serve two masters, for you will hate one and
-
love the other. You will be devoted to one and
-
despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved
-
to money. What is money? Money is power? Money is power.
-
You know why say here? You cannot serve go both
-
God and money. That is why I tell you not
-
to worry about every day whether you have enough food
-
to drink or enough clothes to wear. Isn't life more
-
than food and your body more than clothing? Okay, next life?
-
Yet true godliness, with contentment itself is great wealth. When
-
we have a price, we will never be contented. If
-
we are chasing after power and wealth. Remember I share
-
this before, right. They asked Rockefeller how much Rockefeller is
-
one of the richest guys in America. How much money?
-
How much more money do you need so that you're satisfied?
-
And his answer was just a little bit more. You
-
will never be satisfied if you are chasing for the power, wealth,
-
whatever the world has to offer. But through Godliness, with
-
contentment itself is great. Well, can you imagine what is contentment?
-
You'll be like, Wow, I'm out of the rad race.
-
I'm content because God will supply all my needs according
-
to his richest in glory. But you see here, but
-
people who long to be rich fall into temptation and
-
are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge
-
themselves into ruin and destruction. How many scams are there
-
out there? You know why scams work? It works because
-
of worse Nine, If the moment we put we live
-
a life of contentment, all your scam factories to top early.
-
But you see, for the love of money is the
-
root of all kinds of evil. And some people craving
-
money have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves
-
with many sorrows. So if riches is the way to happiness,
-
then why are so many rich? Why are in the
-
why are the divorce rates in Hollywood or in America
-
supposed to be the richest country. Why is there so
-
much of sorrow? Because we are chasing after things that
-
are not of God and that will run us to
-
the ground. Right, So, even as I draw towards the close,
-
I just wanted to recap the three points. Right, So
-
when we fast, our finish line should be that we
-
are spiritually supplied. You know, God will fill us up.
-
We will separate ourselves from the secular, severe ourself from
-
the secular. And the third part is that we will
-
be stepfast. The second one is secular severance. Yes, separate
-
ourselves from the world. So again, when we probably if
-
I get Anthony to help you. Yeah, the slight eighth
-
is the first point spiritual supply. So when we are
-
being filled by the spirit, we are overcoming the temptation
-
of the flesh. That's the first point. Second point is
-
in Slight twelve, overcoming the temptation of pride. It is
-
not about us and what we can do, but it's
-
about God. And what he wants us to do. It's
-
not about our fame, but making the love of Jesus famous.
-
And the third point again was being steadfast. Our spirit
-
needs to be steadfast and anchored in Jesus. So at
-
the end of twenty one days, I want this is
-
my goal, that I will be stepfast that no weapon
-
formed against me will prosper, just as Jesus was able
-
to stare the devil in the eye and refute all
-
his temptations according to the Word of God. That's the
-
kind of faith I want. And the last slide is
-
this so use how should I put it? Yes? So fast? Thing? Right?
-
I liken it to a boxer, Okay, A boxer will
-
never train in the fight ring during a fight. A
-
boxer will never train during the fight. When there's a
-
boxer trained before for the fight. The box like imagine
-
right if you have Mohammad Ali or Evander Hollyfield or
-
Mike Tyson, all of them they train for their fight before.
-
When India, when they are in the ring, right, you
-
know what they do, they just execute. They execute their
-
training and their training includes physical training, It includes their diet,
-
It includes their recovery, It includes being coached. It includes
-
sparring with someone else, and when they are ready, they
-
enter into the ring and they execute everything that they
-
have been trained. Fast thing is our training. If we
-
don't train ourselves spiritually, when we get into the ring,
-
he'll be k oh, knockout. Then you'll be like I thought, God,
-
your promises are this, but you never tested them, You
-
never trained. You never know what it takes. You know
-
that Jesus after forty days, that is when he launched
-
his ministry. After he finished forty days of fasting, then
-
he was ready to like do his three years of
-
ministry which changed the world. The Israelites. After forty years
-
in the wilderness, they were ready to take on Canaan
-
land for us. After fasting, I want to take on
-
new ground. I want to go forward. I want to
-
be spiritually supplied. I want to separate myself from the secular.
-
I want to have a stepfast spirit so that when
-
the enemy attacks, I am able to give a knockout.
-
And that is fasting. Fast. Thing is why it was
-
difficult for me is because I thought of it as
-
a legalistic thing to do. It's just something that oh,
-
the whole chest is doing. So we just do it,
-
you know, And I'm being very honest. But right now,
-
when I see that, Wow, this is the why of fasting,
-
I feel again fast even more. Suddenly it is no
-
longer hey, my stomach is hungrier. Suddenly it's like, oh,
-
it's hungry for a reason. And I know the reason,
-
and I know what I plan God will accomplish in
-
me at the end of the twenty one days. Man, right, So,
-
even as I get extreme up the last line, at
-
the end of twenty I want to come to a
-
place where I seek the Kingdom of God above all
-
else and live righteously. I do not want to take
-
shortcuts to supply my own needs. I don't want to
-
pull strings to supply my own needs to climb my
-
own corporate leather. But at the end of twenty one days,
-
the main thing I want to do is to seek
-
the Kingdom of God and to live righteously, and He
-
will supply all my needs according to His riches in God.
-
So again, when we are fasting, let's feast on the Word,
-
fill ourselves with the Word, and lets fast from the world.
