  1. You're listening to a message to go from acts church.

  2. We hope this message will light up your day.

  3. What is the difference between hunger and appetite? What's the

  4. difference between hunger and appetite? Tough question, right, Kayla? All right,

  5. that's quite a good analogy, so I would give you

  6. all the definition. Actually, it's quite in line with that.

  7. It's desire versus need. Appetite is what you desire. Need

  8. is what your body needs. All right. So when you

  9. have an ay, do you have an appetite for uh, broccoli?

  10. You're like no, But if your body is hungry and

  11. you've got nothing else to eat there, you'll probably eat

  12. it because your body is that there is a need

  13. for it. But do you have an appetite for it?

  14. Not really, okay? And appetite is the desire for food,

  15. while hunger is the body's need for food. So when

  16. we are fasting, what are we doing? What are we doing?

  17. We are sort of putting aside food. I mean, one

  18. of the most basic ways of fasting is abstaining from food,

  19. right of course, right now, there's a lot more variations.

  20. Some abstain from social media, some abstain from various other things.

  21. But again, when for the context of today's sharing, I'm

  22. talking about food. Okay, So when we are fasting, we

  23. say that, Hey, when I'm fasting, I'm very hungry. Okay,

  24. so I'm depriving my body of food, all right. But

  25. and you know, when you're fasting, right, your desire gets higher, Right,

  26. your desire gets higher. Suddenly all the food is very nice.

  27. Suddenly everything's delicious, you know, Like, but when you're full,

  28. nothing is appetizing. You could have the best food in

  29. front of you and it would not be ampetizing. Okay,

  30. So how does that tie in to our fasting because

  31. it is fasting purely hunger or is it about our appetite?

  32. Because hunger is not just about depriving. This is again,

  33. this was me trying to make sense of why is

  34. it difficult for me to fast? Okay? So I'm asking

  35. y'all to just follow me on my journey in terms

  36. of how I made sense of it. Okay. So I

  37. was like, why is it so difficult for me to fast?

  38. Is it because I have to abstain something? Then only

  39. I realized that, hey, it's not only about depriving myself,

  40. but what's my appetite? Do I have an appetite for

  41. food or do I have an appetite for the things

  42. of God? So fast thing could just mean that your

  43. appetite for the things of God is higher than your

  44. appetite for food. It is not that you have no

  45. appetiti No, you are shifting the focus of your appetite

  46. from food to God. And this is one way that

  47. I can sort of summarize what fasting is. Next, fasting

  48. is feasting on the Word. Well, fasting from the world.

  49. That is what fasting is. That is what fasting is.

  50. It is about feasting on the Word and fasting from

  51. the world. If you take away the first part, what

  52. is it? If you take out feasting from the Word,

  53. what does it become? If you take out feasting on

  54. the word, what does it become? It becomes diret loard.

  55. You know, if you take away just if instead of

  56. just abstaining from food and you do not feast yourself

  57. on the Word of God, what it is no difference

  58. than just going on a diet. But in fact, we

  59. are changing our appetite from what the world, what our

  60. body requires, to filling it with what God wants us

  61. to be filled with. Right, so that we did this

  62. in mind, and I was like, oh, okay, so fasting

  63. is not about just me being hungry and skipping a meal.

  64. I need to feast on the word of God. Okay.

  65. So knowing that again y'all that are fasting, right, I

  66. wanted to ask y'all the next question next fast things

  67. finish line. So we are fasting twenty one days, right,

  68. So at the end of twenty one days, what do

  69. you hope to accomplish? What do you hope to accomplish?

  70. Because right in everything that we do, there has to

  71. be a why. We may be just doing it because

  72. a the whole church is doing it corporately possible, Okay,

  73. so that would be a why. But for me, I

  74. was thinking that why is fasting difficult for me? Because

  75. I didn't have a strong why. Why am I doing it?

  76. And what do I hope to accomplish at the end

  77. of fasting? Because if I am the same person at

  78. the end of the twenty one days, then I just

  79. abstained from food but nothing else changed. And then when

  80. that happens, it's very easy to give up fasting none

  81. because there is no goal at the end of the

  82. twenty one days. For some of us, of course, the

  83. goal will be you listed down your prayer items, and

  84. the goal is that God will come true for you

  85. for your prayer items, and God will that God is

  86. a good God, and in his timing he will give

  87. you your breakthrough. But that is God's part. But what

  88. is our part? What is our part after the twenty

  89. one days? What do we need to do or what

  90. do we need to accomplish after the twenty one days? Okay,

  91. So all these questions were playing in my head. I

  92. just put it down in slides and unjumble them in

  93. my mind and put it here. So I went back

  94. to scripture and went back to the Bible and said, okay,

  95. since it's discipleship, I have to learn from Jesus, live

  96. like Jesus, and teach about Jesus. What did Jesus say

  97. about fasting and how did he live while fasting? Right?

  98. So let's turn to scripture Matthew chapter four. So this

  99. is when Jesus fasted. Okay. The context of the story

  100. is Jesus, who is the son of God who came

  101. down to earth. He also fasted. Okay, so he says here,

  102. then Jesus was led by the spirit into the wilderness

  103. to be tempted there by the devil. For forty days

  104. and forty nights, he fasted and became very hungry. During

  105. that time, the devil came and said to him, if

  106. you are the son of God, tell these stones to

  107. become loaves of bread. But Jesus told him no, that

  108. scripture says people do not live by bread alone, but

  109. by every word that comes from the mouth of God. Okay,

  110. so this is the first one. Next light, then the

  111. devil took him to the Holy City Jerusalem, to the

  112. highest point of the temple, and said, if you are

  113. the son of God, jump off, for the scriptures say

  114. he will order his angels to protect you, and they

  115. will hold you up with their hands, so you won't

  116. even hurt your foot on a stone. Jesus responded, the

  117. scriptures also say you must not test the Lord your God.

  118. And the final one. Next, the devil took him to

  119. the peak of a very high mountain and showed him

  120. all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. I

  121. will give it all to you, he said, if you

  122. kneel down and worship me, get out of here, satan.

  123. Jesus told him, for the scriptures say you must worship

  124. the Lord your God, and serve only him. Then the

  125. devil went away and the angels came and took care

  126. of Jesus. Okay, So if you have been in church

  127. long enough, you would have probably heard this story. Jesus

  128. his fasting was supernatural. It's forty days in the wilderness. Okay,

  129. that is crazy. And how you know that Jesus was

  130. man because it stays here that he became very hungry, right,

  131. so he was both God and man. He also experienced

  132. what man experienced. And then we know that after that time,

  133. the devil came to tempt him. Okay, So as I

  134. was reading this, I saw that Jesus was so fasted,

  135. and he was tempted most of the times previously. What

  136. I would do is I would focus that, oh, Jesus

  137. must have been very very weak. Right after you fasted

  138. for forty days physically, you must be really weak, you

  139. ask me, at your lowest point, and that is when

  140. the devil comes and tempts you and attacks you and

  141. stuff like that. But I think the Holy Spirit gave

  142. me a revelation that, Hey, who said Jesus was weak?

  143. Because it's just said here that Jesus was hungry. Okay,

  144. Jesus was hungry, and probably physically he was weak, but

  145. did you know that spiritually he was strong. He was

  146. much stronger spiritually forty days after fasting than he was before.

  147. And that was a revelation to me. I was like, Wow,

  148. after fasting, instead of becoming weaker, Jesus became stronger. And

  149. when he became stronger, whatever the enemy true at him,

  150. it had no power. It had no power at all.

  151. And I said, wow, that is the kind of fasting

  152. I want. I want to fast. I might be hungry,

  153. but spiritually I want to be able to be so

  154. strong that no weapon formed against me will prosper. Right,

  155. So there are three points today that I wanted to

  156. share in terms of what is probably the finish line

  157. that we can aspire to while fasting. So if you

  158. have if you're fasting, great, If you're not fasting, you

  159. can probably consider fasting as well. Because again, while I

  160. was doing this, then I realized, why does fasting only

  161. have to be once a year? Fasting can be any time.

  162. The only reason why we're doing it once a year.

  163. It is like a it's a drill. It's a drill

  164. where we use it together do it together as the

  165. whole church, you know, so that we can it's easier.

  166. But you can do fasting on your own as well. Okay.

  167. And there's three h points that I want to bring across. Okay.

  168. So the first one is spiritual supply. It all starts

  169. with s. Okay, first one is spiritual supply. When we

  170. are hungry, what is speaking to us? It is our flesh, right,

  171. it is our flesh, you know, our flesh is saying that, hey,

  172. I'm hungry, you know, just to to sort of preach

  173. to myself, right, I want. I told myself, I'm gonna

  174. I'm going to preach this fastest. I'm like, I need to.

  175. I need That's what I'm telling you. This is my

  176. journey that I'm going to I'm going to preach this fastest.

  177. I want to show that, Hey, God, I want to

  178. experience what your word says that I do not need

  179. physical food to do what you have called me to do.

  180. If I depend on you spiritually, then I can do

  181. what you need me to do. Right. So the first

  182. one is overcoming the temptation of the flesh. So just now,

  183. I told you all right, when we went to Beacon Resort,

  184. we're considering, Hey, holiday, you need to fast, not you know,

  185. actually you do need faster. You know, we're trying to rationalize,

  186. you know, us rationalize, rationalizing lies. That's what rationalize is

  187. you're making lies and you're making it make you know who,

  188. we are selling the lies to yourself. You're the best

  189. salesperson and you will buy your own good one. That's

  190. what rationalizing is. You know what is right, but you

  191. rationalize and you you say that, hey, actually it's okay one,

  192. you know, it's it's fine. When God will understand, you know,

  193. all these kind of thoughts go into your mind. But

  194. what is happening is your flesh is winning. Your flesh

  195. is winning, and that's what God. I mean. I was

  196. caught in that scenario as well, you know, like, hey,

  197. how come, uh, I'm rationalizing, you know. And we are

  198. sometimes very afraid of discomfort. You know that it is

  199. okay to feel this comfort. When we are hungry, first

  200. instinct is we look for food. You know, there's this theory,

  201. it's called this the Pavlovian Ah, what the where is

  202. this thing? Yeah? Yeah, I forgot the actual work, but

  203. is there's this scientist he did a study on the

  204. Pavlovian effect. So what happens, right, you know, he noticed

  205. that dogs, ah, whenever they see food, they start celebrating,

  206. you know. So what he did is like, hey, so

  207. is the dog celebrating because of the food or because

  208. of something else, or because he saw the person that

  209. is bringing the food or whatever it is. So what

  210. he decided to do is he decided to test anytime

  211. the food was brought they rang a bell. They rang

  212. a bell. So after a while, what he did is

  213. he rang the bell without bringing the food. So the dogs,

  214. they soon caught on the habit that anytime there is food,

  215. there will be the sound of the bell. And when

  216. there's the sound of the bell, they will start cealibrating.

  217. Then what the scientists did is he stopped bringing food,

  218. but he just ring the bell. What do you think happened?

  219. The dogs started salivating as well, because it is the flash.

  220. You know, it has preconditioned your mind that anytime there

  221. is a bell, food is coming. And that's why I

  222. have to salivate. And sometimes we have conditioned ourselves. Anytime

  223. we are hungry, we need to feed ourselves. I cannot

  224. be hungry on I cannot be hungry, you know, and

  225. like like sometimes like my kids, if they watch TV,

  226. then suddenly it must have something to munch. You know,

  227. you go to movie, I must have pop corner must

  228. it's you don't need it, but it's an appetite that

  229. is pre conditioned. It's pre conditioned there and sometimes right

  230. we are being preconditioned by the world. Like everything that

  231. our emotions tell us, we need to fulfill it immediately.

  232. If it's too hot, I need to find a place

  233. that is cooler. If I'm uncomfortable, I have to find

  234. a place that is more comfortable. If it's too loud,

  235. I need to place find a place that is softer.

  236. Instead of adapting and growing, we are fleeing. And because

  237. of that we cannot grow, you know. But spiritually God

  238. wants us to grow. So one of the ways fast

  239. thing is when you feel hungry, it's okay, how many

  240. of y'all know you first, one meal won't die one

  241. We all know that. I think all of us look

  242. very healthy, you know, very healthy. You won't die. But

  243. just saying that a I will not say yes to

  244. my flesh, but I will commit it to God, you know.

  245. So let me go to some scripture next. So this

  246. was the scripture. During that time, the devil came to

  247. and said to him, if you are the son of God,

  248. tell these stones to become loaves of bread. But Jesus

  249. told him no. The scripture says people do not live

  250. by bread alone, but by every word that comes from

  251. the mouth of God. So previously, when I was reading this,

  252. I'm like, what's the big deal. You have the power,

  253. you are hungry, makes sense, right, just change the stone

  254. to Brailah. But then what I realized is what God

  255. revealed me is sometimes just because we have the power

  256. to do something, it doesn't mean that it is in

  257. line with God's will. You know, Jesus was not there

  258. to fill his tummy. He was there to do the

  259. will of the Father. And most of the times we

  260. shot cut what God wants to do with us by

  261. taking things into our hands and feeding ourselves. So an

  262. example was Abraham. God promised Abraham that he will have

  263. a son ninety nine years already, No son, How would

  264. you pending on it? If you're Abraham, you'll be like God.

  265. The whole generation depends on I mean ninety nine, I

  266. mean ninety nine years old. The whole sand I mean,

  267. my generation would be like my descendants will be as

  268. many as the sand on the sea and the stars

  269. in the sky. But ninety nine are still dry. How

  270. I think God forgot or maybe he's busy. And what

  271. did the fleshly desire? You take the shortcut? You take

  272. the short cut. God does not forget God's promises. A

  273. yes and amen. And when we are able to summit

  274. ourselves to him and say that God, I do not

  275. know how you're going to come true for me. I

  276. don't see the money. I don't see Hey, do I

  277. have to go and take a loan from the loan shot?

  278. All these are real questions, and I have to pay

  279. the bills. My kids are hungry. I have so much

  280. of needs. But when you seek God, what does he

  281. tell you to do? Because he says here right, people

  282. do not live by bread alone, but by every word

  283. that comes from the mouth of God. Do you know

  284. that the words that come from the mouth of God

  285. are more powerful than bread? Because there are so many

  286. promises in the world of God, And all we have

  287. to do is to silence our flesh and listen, God,

  288. what are you telling me? Okay? Next verse, Therefore, dear

  289. brothers and sisters, you have no obligation to do what

  290. your sinful nature urges you to do. For if you

  291. live by what it detates, you will die. But if

  292. true the power of the spirit, you put to death

  293. the deeds of your sinful nature, you will live. Okay.

  294. So you see here I give into the flesh, we

  295. will give into sinful nature. I think, for example, right,

  296. like fasting, right, I was thinking, why is it so

  297. difficult for me to fast? But and also like, for example,

  298. going to work, say going to work every day? Okay,

  299. if you go to work every day, you may or

  300. may not like your job, but you turn up every day.

  301. It's a discipline, you know, because it is what I mean.

  302. You're being paid for it, of course. But if you

  303. have that commitment and you do what it takes, you

  304. die to yourself. How many of y'all loved your Monday

  305. morning alarm clocks? You don't write, but you die to self.

  306. If you can die to self for your boss, why

  307. not to God? You know? So when we die yourself

  308. and say, hey, we don't give into our sinful nature,

  309. because this is what God wants me to do, and

  310. I will do what is pleasing to him. Next verse,

  311. when you follow the desires of your sinful nature. The

  312. results are very clear. Sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy,

  313. outburst of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties,

  314. and other sins like this. Let me tell you again

  315. as I have before, that anyone living that sort of

  316. life will not inherit the Kingdom of God. But the

  317. Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness,

  318. and self control. There is no law against these things.

  319. Can you see the first part right that is highlighted

  320. up there, the sexual immorality, impurity, laschical pleasures. You know

  321. what is the flesh hungering? For they are desired. The

  322. flesh is desiring for pleasure. And can you see that

  323. the world is giving more, giving in more and more

  324. to the pleasures of the that the flesh desires. And

  325. when you give into the pleasures of the flesh, right,

  326. it is like a monster, and it will one more

  327. and more and more. What satisfied you before will not

  328. satisfy you later. You will need more and more. So

  329. that's why the war world is becoming more and more

  330. immoral because we are feeding our fleshly desires. So you

  331. know the story of the the two Wolves. I'm not

  332. sure that. So there's this guy. He was talking to

  333. his grandson and then the grandfather is telling your grandson, Uh,

  334. do you know in every person there are two wolves.

  335. One wolf is a good wolf and one The good

  336. wolf will help you and achieve everything that you need

  337. to do, and the bad wolf will destroy you. So

  338. the boy asked the grandfather, how wish wolf wins? Which

  339. wolf wins? You know what? The grandfather said, the wolf

  340. that you feed. So which wolf are you feeding? Are

  341. you feeding the desires of your flesh or are you

  342. feeding the desires of the spirit what God desires? And

  343. that's why the first point was that we wanted spiritual supply.

  344. Fasting will help us replenish our spiritual supply. If we

  345. are not replenishing our spiritual supply, we are filling it

  346. with fleshly supply, and fleshly supply will lead to all

  347. of this, Okay, all right, And so that's the first

  348. point spiritual supply. Second point secular severance or very big words.

  349. I was like thinking, how to make this easier. But

  350. I thought, okay, big words or make it sound most

  351. but it is true secular severance, so overcoming temptation of pride?

  352. What does this mean? Let me take us to the

  353. scripture next. Then the devil took him to the Holy

  354. City Jerusalem, to the highest point of the temple and said,

  355. if you are the son of God, jump off, for

  356. the scriptures say he will order his angels to protect you,

  357. and they will hold you up with your hands so

  358. you won't even hurt your foot on your on a stone.

  359. Jesus responded, The scriptures also say you must not test

  360. the Lord your God. Okay, so again, when you read this,

  361. you'll be like, okay, what you have the power to do?

  362. So you know, yeah, Jesus has the power to do so,

  363. but he chose not to. Why do you think he

  364. chose not to do so. If you have the power

  365. to command angels at your will and to save you

  366. or to do whatever you want, what would you do

  367. if you have the power to you have the like,

  368. for example, right, Jesus, if he did this, do you

  369. think he will get famous? Right? You'll like show the

  370. whole world. Wow, I can beckon angels at anything. You know,

  371. I'm suddenly superman, or you can jump off, you can

  372. have angels, you know, I'm immortal. I would die, you know,

  373. But what does that have? What happens then? I think

  374. Jesus realized, Oh, Jesus is trying to teach us that

  375. it's not about us getting fame. Jesus didn't need to

  376. be famous. Jesus didn't need to prove himself to anybody else.

  377. Jesus didn't need to say that, hey, I'm the son

  378. of God and that's why I can do this. So

  379. all of y'all, you know, look at me. I'm great.

  380. He did not need to do so. And the devil

  381. will tempt us with pride because all of us want validation, right,

  382. how many ons validation? Everyone's wants validation? Right. Everyone wants

  383. to say, wow, you are amazing, you did a good job,

  384. you're awesome, and stuff like that. But at what cost

  385. would you pay for validation? You know us reading the

  386. article right on article article, it's on Facebook. So recently

  387. you know the Putra Heights explosion, right, So I remember

  388. Danzel and me were like running back on Tuesday morning.

  389. They were looking to the left. You're like seeing fireballs

  390. in the sky. Like from Quota Kommuning. We can see

  391. it was like huge, huge fireballs in the sky, you know,

  392. and all of us know what happened that so many

  393. people lost their homes. Thank god nobody died. But there

  394. are still a number of people in the hospital right

  395. They are injured, they have been burned, severe burns and

  396. a lot of damages. But then what I read on

  397. Facebook is right now influences are trying to go and

  398. see all these victims to create content. They are going

  399. there for the sake of getting publicity for themselves. They're

  400. going there just to get more likes. They're going there

  401. to prove to the world that hey, look at me,

  402. I am kind, look at me, I care look at me.

  403. And right now we are living in that kind of

  404. world where if you look at it right again, there

  405. are people who are genuine, you know. I see, like

  406. suddenly so many car companies are loaning cars. I'm like,

  407. how many cars can these people drive? You know, like

  408. three or four car companies have loan cars and stuff

  409. like that. Insurance companies also have waived different clauses and

  410. stuff like that. Again, these are good things, but again,

  411. what is the intention if it is done from the

  412. intention to help people, then great, But if it's from

  413. the intention to like, like I see some people are

  414. donating money and all stuff like that. Right, it's good stuff,

  415. But a lot of it is for publicity because you

  416. need the camera man there, You need the cameraman that

  417. you need publicity. It needs to come out here, it

  418. needs to come out there. And then to say that, hey,

  419. how good, what a good job I'm doing what I'm

  420. trying to help, you know, and tying it back to this, right,

  421. Jesus didn't have to prove a point. He didn't have

  422. to prove a point and say that, hey I can

  423. command angels, Hey I got the power to do so,

  424. I can jump of the building. He did not. That's

  425. why he said, you must not test the Lord, your God.

  426. You must not. So what does that mean. It's just

  427. do what God has called you to do. Don't do

  428. it for the likes, don't do it for the publicity,

  429. because when you do it, that's all the kudos you

  430. will get. Now, if you get your kudos here on earth,

  431. you may not get your kudos well done, my good

  432. and faithful servant when you reach heaven. You know, because

  433. the main thing is doing what God wants us to do. Okay,

  434. next slide, do not love this world, not the things

  435. it offers you. For when you love the world, you

  436. do not have the love of the Father in you.

  437. For the world offers only a crave for physical pleasure,

  438. a craving for everything we see, and a pride in

  439. our achievement and possessions. These are not from the Father,

  440. but from this world. So when I am fasting, or

  441. when all of us are fasting, we should be like

  442. saying that God, less of me, more of you. We

  443. should have less self pride and say that God, what

  444. is it you want me to do? Even though it's

  445. behind the scenes, even though there is no applause, Well,

  446. I still do it. And that's what we are called

  447. to do. Right next James faur and he gives grace generously,

  448. as the scriptures say, God opposes the proud, but gives

  449. grace to the humble. So humble yourselves before God. Resist

  450. the devil and he will flee from you. Humble yourselves

  451. before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.

  452. Fasting is about humbling ourselves before God. When I realize

  453. that is that Wow? When I fast it's about feeling

  454. my spell selves spiritually. When I'm fast, it's about humbling

  455. myself before God and separating, severing myself from the secular.

  456. Severing myself from a secular means whatever is important to

  457. the world in terms of fame and fortune or whatever

  458. it is, if it's not aligned to what God has

  459. for me, I want to cut it away. Okay. And

  460. the last point is this stead fast spirit, steap fast spirit.

  461. So it's a picture of an anchor, you know, right,

  462. a ship and an anchor. I was starting to find

  463. a picture of an anchor underwater with the ship. Now

  464. I'm like, I don't think I can find the love

  465. because it'll be super deep and be a very weird picture.

  466. But anyway, you get the point. And anchor. When a

  467. ship is anchored, right, the anchor goes down and it

  468. locks into the ground. A ship that is not anchored

  469. the moment the waves or the wind or whatever storm

  470. hits it will be blown off cost And that is

  471. what fasting is to us. Fast thing will help us

  472. anchor ours spirit and no matter what comes away God,

  473. we know that our spirit is strong, so it is

  474. overcoming the temptation of power. Let me see the verse.

  475. So the next the devil took him to the peak

  476. of a very high mountain showed him all the kingdoms

  477. of the world and their glory. I will give it

  478. all to you if you will kneel down and worship

  479. Mee down, get out of here, Satan, Jesus told him,

  480. for the scriptures say you must worship the Lord your

  481. God and serve only him. Then the devil went away,

  482. and the angels came and took care of Jesus. Okay,

  483. what I wanted us to focus on is verse nine.

  484. I will give it all to you if you kneel

  485. down and worship me. What is the price of your faith?

  486. Is it a million bucks? Is it five million? Is

  487. it ten million? Is it one hundred million? If you

  488. can put a price on your faith, then it is

  489. not anchored in Jesus, because what the devil just needs

  490. to know is to know what's your price. Once he

  491. knows your price, he will keep on a giving it

  492. to you. He gives challenges you. And that's why that's

  493. how bribes happen. Bribes is people knowing what's the value

  494. of your integrity? How much is your integrity worth? If

  495. I know the value, I pay you. That's it your mind.

  496. Once you take a bride, right, you are hooked already

  497. in terms of that you can't. You are scared that

  498. the person can rat you out. You know that, and

  499. then you are forever hooked. And that's what the devil

  500. will do that because right he will tell us, okay,

  501. what's your price? He will throw at us everything that

  502. the world has to offer. It can be fame, it

  503. can be fortune, it is power, anything. And if we

  504. are not careful, if our spirit is not anchored, then

  505. we will sway. So let's see some verses. No one

  506. can serve two masters, for you will hate one and

  507. love the other. You will be devoted to one and

  508. despise the other. You cannot serve God and be enslaved

  509. to money. What is money? Money is power? Money is power.

  510. You know why say here? You cannot serve go both

  511. God and money. That is why I tell you not

  512. to worry about every day whether you have enough food

  513. to drink or enough clothes to wear. Isn't life more

  514. than food and your body more than clothing? Okay, next life?

  515. Yet true godliness, with contentment itself is great wealth. When

  516. we have a price, we will never be contented. If

  517. we are chasing after power and wealth. Remember I share

  518. this before, right. They asked Rockefeller how much Rockefeller is

  519. one of the richest guys in America. How much money?

  520. How much more money do you need so that you're satisfied?

  521. And his answer was just a little bit more. You

  522. will never be satisfied if you are chasing for the power, wealth,

  523. whatever the world has to offer. But through Godliness, with

  524. contentment itself is great. Well, can you imagine what is contentment?

  525. You'll be like, Wow, I'm out of the rad race.

  526. I'm content because God will supply all my needs according

  527. to his richest in glory. But you see here, but

  528. people who long to be rich fall into temptation and

  529. are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge

  530. themselves into ruin and destruction. How many scams are there

  531. out there? You know why scams work? It works because

  532. of worse Nine, If the moment we put we live

  533. a life of contentment, all your scam factories to top early.

  534. But you see, for the love of money is the

  535. root of all kinds of evil. And some people craving

  536. money have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves

  537. with many sorrows. So if riches is the way to happiness,

  538. then why are so many rich? Why are in the

  539. why are the divorce rates in Hollywood or in America

  540. supposed to be the richest country. Why is there so

  541. much of sorrow? Because we are chasing after things that

  542. are not of God and that will run us to

  543. the ground. Right, So, even as I draw towards the close,

  544. I just wanted to recap the three points. Right, So

  545. when we fast, our finish line should be that we

  546. are spiritually supplied. You know, God will fill us up.

  547. We will separate ourselves from the secular, severe ourself from

  548. the secular. And the third part is that we will

  549. be stepfast. The second one is secular severance. Yes, separate

  550. ourselves from the world. So again, when we probably if

  551. I get Anthony to help you. Yeah, the slight eighth

  552. is the first point spiritual supply. So when we are

  553. being filled by the spirit, we are overcoming the temptation

  554. of the flesh. That's the first point. Second point is

  555. in Slight twelve, overcoming the temptation of pride. It is

  556. not about us and what we can do, but it's

  557. about God. And what he wants us to do. It's

  558. not about our fame, but making the love of Jesus famous.

  559. And the third point again was being steadfast. Our spirit

  560. needs to be steadfast and anchored in Jesus. So at

  561. the end of twenty one days, I want this is

  562. my goal, that I will be stepfast that no weapon

  563. formed against me will prosper, just as Jesus was able

  564. to stare the devil in the eye and refute all

  565. his temptations according to the Word of God. That's the

  566. kind of faith I want. And the last slide is

  567. this so use how should I put it? Yes? So fast? Thing? Right?

  568. I liken it to a boxer, Okay, A boxer will

  569. never train in the fight ring during a fight. A

  570. boxer will never train during the fight. When there's a

  571. boxer trained before for the fight. The box like imagine

  572. right if you have Mohammad Ali or Evander Hollyfield or

  573. Mike Tyson, all of them they train for their fight before.

  574. When India, when they are in the ring, right, you

  575. know what they do, they just execute. They execute their

  576. training and their training includes physical training, It includes their diet,

  577. It includes their recovery, It includes being coached. It includes

  578. sparring with someone else, and when they are ready, they

  579. enter into the ring and they execute everything that they

  580. have been trained. Fast thing is our training. If we

  581. don't train ourselves spiritually, when we get into the ring,

  582. he'll be k oh, knockout. Then you'll be like I thought, God,

  583. your promises are this, but you never tested them, You

  584. never trained. You never know what it takes. You know

  585. that Jesus after forty days, that is when he launched

  586. his ministry. After he finished forty days of fasting, then

  587. he was ready to like do his three years of

  588. ministry which changed the world. The Israelites. After forty years

  589. in the wilderness, they were ready to take on Canaan

  590. land for us. After fasting, I want to take on

  591. new ground. I want to go forward. I want to

  592. be spiritually supplied. I want to separate myself from the secular.

  593. I want to have a stepfast spirit so that when

  594. the enemy attacks, I am able to give a knockout.

  595. And that is fasting. Fast. Thing is why it was

  596. difficult for me is because I thought of it as

  597. a legalistic thing to do. It's just something that oh,

  598. the whole chest is doing. So we just do it,

  599. you know, And I'm being very honest. But right now,

  600. when I see that, Wow, this is the why of fasting,

  601. I feel again fast even more. Suddenly it is no

  602. longer hey, my stomach is hungrier. Suddenly it's like, oh,

  603. it's hungry for a reason. And I know the reason,

  604. and I know what I plan God will accomplish in

  605. me at the end of the twenty one days. Man, right, So,

  606. even as I get extreme up the last line, at

  607. the end of twenty I want to come to a

  608. place where I seek the Kingdom of God above all

  609. else and live righteously. I do not want to take

  610. shortcuts to supply my own needs. I don't want to

  611. pull strings to supply my own needs to climb my

  612. own corporate leather. But at the end of twenty one days,

  613. the main thing I want to do is to seek

  614. the Kingdom of God and to live righteously, and He

  615. will supply all my needs according to His riches in God.

  616. So again, when we are fasting, let's feast on the Word,

  617. fill ourselves with the Word, and lets fast from the world.
