Day what God tells us about how we should live

our lives on a mission, on a mission. Okay, So

how I'll start this morning, a manzoni, How start this

morning is I'll tell you a story that happened to

me just this week, and then I'll start of going

to the title. So, it was a pretty busy week

for us as a family, and and thank god, we

have one of those like robot vacuum cleaners in the house. Okay,

you know those robot vacuum cleaners that there's the cleaning

for you. And you know so so so I think

on a Wednesday or Thursday, we were about to go

out for something. Oh, it was a Friday. It was

Julie's birthday. Yeah, yeah, Julie just turned thirty eight. Thirty eight.

We celebrate on a Burnday or Friday with our homes

and you know, you know eighteen eighteen. Okay, go for

the bag. Yeah. And so anyways, you're about to go

out and you know, busy week. I wanted to make

sure the floors get cleaned. Okay, the floors get clean

and so the robot can do the work for you

when I'm outright, So I prepared so for me to

I need to prepare the house for the robot to

do its work. You know, if you have a robot

vacuum cleaner, if there's like a rag or a floor

mat or any cables on the floor, then you know

it will just mess everything up, right, So I like

to take all the chairs off the floor, clear the mat,

clear the floors, and so that the robot can effectively

clean the whole the whole house, right. So I did

all that. I took fifteen minutes to prepare it. Then

put water into the robot, you know, put into the

charging Okay. Then I left and and when I came

back home after after having that dinner, you know, one

thing to come back to, a sparkling clean floor can

just lie down on it and it'll slide on the

floor and be happy. I realized, I realized I didn't

turn on the robot. Yeah, I didn't turn on the robot.

So I prepared the house everything you know, ready, okay, yes, excited,

clean floor is going to do the work for me.

And then low and behold, nothing was done. Nothing was done,

and Yeah, So today I want to talk about how

we we can have so much potential on doing something,

but it's left as death. Okay, just like how the

robot was ready to do its work, ready to it

was fully loaded with water, fully charged, the battery house

was prepared already to do what it's supposed to do,

that mission, that task ahead, but it didn't get done

because I didn't press one button to turn on the switch, right,

And how many of you can identify with me? Right?

You know, if you have a mobile phone with so

many different applications, one hundred or tory applications, but you

only use it as a smartphone just to call, make

calls or SMS, the potential is numerous, you know, but

it's untapped, unused, right, Or like a seed that we have.

You know, I have a bag of seats in my pantry.

You know, the seed has so much potential to grow

into a fruit tree, bearing much fruit, feeding maybe everyone

in the room. But if it's left in the pantry

and not applied, not put into the ground, then it's

it stays as a seed. Right. So so this morning

I want to bring you a title, and it's this

to remind all of us to switch it on, to

switch that robot vacuum cleaner on before you leave the house,

so the untapped potential can be released. Okay, And I'll

bring us to a very familiar verse. And if you

have been with us in X, like you know Jason,

our CPC has been preaching from where Matthew chapter five

the beatitude Spanish of the five, so i'll use the

same the same Maniture five is a sermon on a

mount where Jesus spoke to a multitude of people. And

the first part is the beattitudes, which you know we're

going through now. I think we will do the tail

end and right after the berattitudes, which talks about who

we are in Christ, you know, how we should be

as disciples. Right after that, there's a few verses talking

about missions, right talking about missions, and it's very familiar

to us. I think I've also preached from this before.

But I want to remind us today to switch it on,

to turn that switch on. Okay, So we'll go through

the verses first, and then let's break it down. Matthew

Chapter five, verses thirteen to sixteen. Right, you are the

salt of the earth. So God makes it very clear

we as disciples, as Christians, as the Church, as ex

clang as Hakka method in Singapore. We are the salt

of the earth. But if the salt loses its flavor,

how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for

nothing but to be thrown out and trampled under foot

by men. You are the light of the world. A

city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.

Nor do they light a lamp and put it under

a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light

to all who are in the house. So let your

light so shine before man, that they may see your

good works and glorify your Father in Heaven. Amen. Today

i will split the message into three parts. Okay, So

I'll start with the end in mind. I'll start with

what God intends for us to be. So we'll start

with that, and then the second part we'll talk about

what salt is, and the third part we talk about

what light is. So really simple, we'll start with the

end in mind. We talk about salt, we talk about light.

So let's go with verse sixteen. First, what is the

end in mind and what does God intense? When? What

was Jesus intents when he was speaking about this bunch

of verses in the Sermon on the Mount, we go

to verse sixteen. This is an ESB version that two

chapter five, verse sixteen. In the same way, let your

light shine before others. In the same way, let your

light shine before others. So we're just repeating this again

so that they may see your good words and give

glory to your father who is in heaven. So imagine

this is the end goal. This is the end goal

of what Jesus was saying to all of all of

us in salt and light. This is the outcome. This

is the intended output. Right, and three things pop out

to me. One is the word others, The second one

is yeah, can go back to the verse verse The

second one is your good works, and the third one

is glory to your father who is in heaven. So

they'll start with others. So remember this is what Jesus

wants us to go to. Our end goal, our goalposts, right,

and we need to remember that there are others. There

are other people in our life, right, there are you know?

When I was attending Missions conference yesterday, the one of

the key things which I caught from all the stories

that were shared by different missionaries and practitioners in the field.

Is how big the world is and sometimes how small.

My perspective on life is right, the world is huge.

There are so many different types of people going through

different challenges. There are so many people going through very

difficult situations. I don't know. I'm just thinking about how

when the singer parents come to Malaya, they're like, oh, man,

thank God, we are living. No, just kidding, just kidding,

I love you guys. Yeah, here we go, turnable country. No no,

oh yeah so cheap, Yeah, let's spend. But my eyes

were open to how how the stories that were shed.

You know, there were many people who are who are

losing their lives for the gospel. So just that statement,

it sounds like so cliche, but there are people in

the world who lose their lives for saying yes and

not not denying their faith. What a privilege we have

in Malaysia. We can worship God openly, we can read

the bi Bible openly, we can teach our children to

read the Bible. It's not the same in every country.

It's not the same in many parts of the world. Actually,

they don't have the privilege and opportunity to live their

faith out on a day to day basis, and if

they do not deny the faith, sometimes they lose their lives.

And we heard those stories yesterday. There are people that

are oppressed and persecuted, even if they're not Christians, just

being creations of God being persecuted or oppressed tortured by

another human being also a creator of created being is

So it's so like we shouldn't be ignorant to what's

been happening around the world, and we should open our

eyes to what is happening around the world. They are

poor and needy, even in Malaysia, we can see that.

So I'll start with that God wants us to be

aware that our light should shine before others, and us

as Christians, as disciples, I believe most of us here

are believers in Christ. The world is bigger than just

our family, and our responsibility as disciples and our stewardship

disciples goes beyond just our immediate family. And we should

be praying, we should be helping, we should be thinking about,

we should be giving towards others. Okay, number two again,

the end goal is Oh before that two weeks ago,

we were in Carry Island, so we've got a picture

for you. So this is carry Alan. Usually we don't

try to show the faces well, but if you've been there,

I'm sure ex Clang has been very involved with the

works in Carrier and our homes where went recently, and

we go there to teach English to aron usly children.

One one thing I caught from just two weeks ago

was that you know, beyond beyond just going there, beyond

the traveling there. And then for us, we have three boys,

so it's something's a bit challenging also, But what I

saw was my children having their eyes open to an

to a group of other kids that are different from them.

Right again the word others. Our kids are so privile privileged.

Our kids have opportunities, and I include everyone in this room.

We really are are blessed. And there are many people,

including those are very close to it was just one

hour away, who have very different upbringing, who are very

different uh childhoods, and and many of them don't have ices.

They they struggle with just the basics. And and I

saw I saw how especially by how he opened up

to realizing that okay, that's that's a difference, that there

is more heart to just his school and his family,

and he also you know, he was also teaching the

other kids English that there. So it was just such

a blessing. So again we must not be ignorant and

live in our own fish bowl of our own families.

But we need to be aware of the global needs

and what what God is doing in a global perspective

as well. Okay, So the second part about the end

goal is the word good works, which we cannot exc

if you're talking about missions, if we cannot exclude if

you're talking about living out our lives as disciples. And

I'll just do this quickly, but I I want to say,

is good works. It's just a expression or a demonstration

of our faith, okay, And it's not the Bible says

that we are not saved by good works, but we

are saved for good works. Right, So we do not

need to do anything to earn our salvation and ourself

making right with God. But once we have accepted Jesuits

into our lives, the expression of our faith, the demonstration

of who we are disciples is done by good works, right,

good works. Our read Ephesians chapter two, for it is

by grace you have been saved through faith. And this

is not from yourselves. It is the gift of God. Again,

we are saved by grace, true faith, not from our

own works, not by works, so that no one can boast.

But Verse ten says this right after that, for we

are God's handy work, created in Christ Jesus to do

good works for God prepared in advance for us to

do so. If you call ourself disciples, the expression and

the demonstration of our faith being saved is good works.

It's blessing. Someone is giving, is bringing the good news

to someone, right, Okay. And then finally again, the end goal,

how God wants this to be wrapped up, is this,

we need missions or being sought and light ultimately gives

glory to God. And that's the end goal. That's the

end goal we look at. We read just now Haber

Cook two fourteen. For the earth will be filled with

the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the

waters cover the sea. Right. So, ultimately, what missions is about,

if you want to start with the end in mind,

is that God's glory be made known in every part

of the world, right here in Malaysia, Dare, in Singapore,

in Thailand, in Laos, in Vietnam, in Cambodia, in Australia,

in London, that that God's glory may be known. Right,

So his plan is to fill the ear to this glory.

His plan is for His glory to be made known

as for people in every nation. And and the work

that we do should always have this end goal in mind, right. Always.

It can be from anything, like you know, with each

tution or we give or we we buy a jersey.

But ultimately the purpose is for God to be glorified. Okay,

all right, you guys doing good, getting quiet. So that's

the end goal. That's what God intends for us to

be salt and light. Right, that we need to open

our mind to others. We need to apply our faith

by doing good works, and we need to buy that

make His glory known. Okay, so let's jump back into

what salt and light is, right, let's jump back into that.

Matthew chapter five thirteen says this, you are the salt

of the earth. But if the salt loses its flavor,

how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for

nothing but to be thrown out and trampled under foot

by men. So let's talk about salt a little bit.

It's something very familiar to all of us, right, unless

you don't eat salt. Maybe yeah, those health freaks, Yeah,

no salt, no MSG. You know, you might have heard

this before, but salt in the context of when Jesus was,

when he was walking on the earth, was actually a

very valuable item. Okay, it's very valuable. In fact, they

used to pay they used to pay soldiers and people

in the army with salt. Okay, So imagine you guys,

your kids, you got a tournament on Monday, and then

maybe there's some prize money, and then you go and

win the tournament, you ay, champion, and then they say

welcome to the podium, number one, and they give you

a bag of salt as a gift. So salt had

that kind of value. I mean, now we take it

for granted. We almost can just chuck salt in the

in the bin without thinking twice. But just imagine how

precious and how valuable salt was when Jesus is walking

on the earth. Okay, So have that context. In fact,

if you heard the term worth his salt or this

guy is worth his salt, that's where the saying came from.

Rights this guy is so it's worth his Manila, like,

and he's a great guy. He's on acoustics. He opens

his house for prayer service. And Dan Connie, you know, man,

these guys are worth the AsSalt. Man. Come on, give

them some, give them some love, get them some salt.

You bring salt on Tuesday, We'll see you a prayer service. Yeah.

In botanic two. Okay. So in essence, what Jesus is

saying is all of you here you are worth his salt.

You guys are precious. Come tell a neighbor you are precious.

You are precious. You are so precious to him. You

are valuable. He loves you. And uh, and that's very important.

That's very important. And the other thing about salt is again,

when Jesus is walking the earth, there were no refrigerators

or like a fridge. So now when we have meat

or like you buy nice fish from the market and

you put it straight into the fridge because you don't

wanted to go roth or decay or go rotten. Right,

So back then you don't have a fridge. Word you

do you sort of pack it with salt because salt

has a characteristic of preserving preserving meat from rotting. So

that speaks about us as Christians as well. How we

as Christians who are walking the earth now should be

preserving the world from rot and decay. Okay, so have

that in mind. And the key thing about matter Chapter

five is God and Jesus was talking about how salt

can lose its flavor. Right, So we know salt is valuable,

we know salt is precious. We know salt has this

characteristic of preventing decay and rot. But that's a caveat

salt can lose its characteristics of being salty, okay, and

we don't want to fall into that category. Okay. Let

me bring you a sub point from this is how

can I stay salty? How can I say salty as

a Christian? How can I remember to turn on that

vacuum before I leave the house? Right? Number one, it's identity.

So something very familiar again, I reminder is identity. And

you know, have you ever cooked a dish and you

reach it your pantry and you want to take salt

to empty your pasta sauce, but instead of salt, you

took sugar. Very common, right, because you can look very similar, right,

they look almost identical, you know. So the salt that

you have, right, it's almost as good as the packaging

or the labor or the box you put it into. Right,

that's the identity. So if you can show the next slide, yeah,

down one more, which one is the salt? Which? Which

one is the salt? How can salt lose lose his flavor?

How can salt be not salty anymore? If we wrongly

identify the bottle. In other words, we can lose our

ability to be salty if we wrongly identify ourselves. We

wrongly identify who we are in Christ. Okay, and if

you can tell me who chances the salt, the answer

is in the next Like, no, that's no answer. Yeah. Yeah.

It's like when you're in the when you're in a

hotel and then like it's a five star hotel and

you there to impress your clients, and then they've got

like salt and sugar things on the table. They're like,

I want to put sugar into my coffee, but I

don't look silly by putting salt into there, right, so

you just drink it black? Yeah. Again, Often the effectiveness

of salt is as good as as its container or

its label. It's identification. So our identity and perspective of

ourselves and the world will affect our effectiveness or as

salt of the earth. And these days I want to

start your because these days I find myself asking God,

what do you want me to do in this situation?

You know that's a challenge? Or you know I have

a what is your plan for me? What is your

will for me for this week? How do I deal

with this particular issue? I find myself asking less of

that question, but rather asking who do you want me

to be? Or what are you trying to teach me

in this situation? Who are you molding me to be?

As I go through this valley? Right? Because often it's

more important to know who God is calling us, know

what He's trying to shape us to be, rather than

just the doing. The good work is important. I did

say that, right, But again, the good work is an

expression of who we are. It's an extension of who

we are disciples. So the more important question is actually God,

in this situation, what do you want me to be?

Who do you want me to be? Right? I'll read

someone Tree nine and someone t nine. Always know you

know search me or God? No, my heart, no, my thoughts, no,

my anxious thoughts and point out in me anything that

offends you. Point out in my heart what makes you?

You know, what gives you a grievance? Right, and see

if there's any offense in me, and lead me along

the path that is everlasting. So God is at the

start here trying to tell us if you want to

be salty, don't start with just the good work, don't

start with just the doing? Or where are you leading me?

Which missions are you leading me to? Which country do

I go to? Where do I give? But I think

we need to ask the question God, who are we

in Christ? Be reminded that we have a calling to

be to live out our faith, have a calling to

be a blessing to others, and then the good works

will be an extension of that faith. Joseph in the Bible,

if you if you know Joseph, Joseph is here as well.

Joseph in the Bible is a great story about this,

right because at a very young age he had that

dream and mission already, you know, he had that vision

that God is gonna make him the head and not

the tail. God is going to make him lead, right,

and he had that mission. He was going to go

for it. Right. But he went through like a really

long process, you know, being thrown in the pit, going

to Botifar's house, being accused for sexual harassment, after that,

being thrown into prison. And I can just imagine that

every step up the good works hasn't really begun. But

what God was doing was that identification and that renewing

and that shaping of who Joseph was going to be

when he ultimately went and completed his mission, right Luke

six forty five. A good man brings good things out

of the goods thought up in his heart. So again,

good works, we bring good things. But most importantly, if

you're doing good, it comes from the good that is

thought in his heart, because the opposite is true. And

an evil man brings evil things out of the evils

thought in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the

heart is full of. So it's important for us to

start with the heart, to start looking at God, search

my heart, point out anything in me that offends you,

point out anything in me that costs you grievances, and

purify me and lead me along the path everlasting. All right,

So we start that identity and the next part about

salt or how can we stay salty is purity, purity Okay,

this is also from the Beauty to its right. Yeah,

blessed at pure and hart for they will see God

right Menu chapter five. So why it was salt so

valuable back in the day because of the process of

getting salt. Okay, it's very difficult. It's different from now.

They use to get salt from salt marshes and they

sort of like let it dry and then you know,

they pick up the salt. But every time they collect

the salt is also mixed up with like different stuff,

dirt and like others stuff that is not saltyler. So

if you want to stay salty, if you want want

to stay effective, if you want to turn on that switch,

we need to remember to be pure. We need to

be pure. The Bible causes us to be holy. Right,

the Bible caused us to be set apart, to be

set apart from what the world does. And I want

to dwell here for a short while because I feel

now at this age and I think Jason is up recently,

we live in a world that has moral decay. Right.

What moral decay is is generations have passed and what

we see is the perception and moral value of the

general public. The threshold is going lower and lower and lower.

For example, for example, in the seventies or sixties, I

wasn't born yet, but I heard, I heard maybe some

of you at that time. I heard that it was

very offensive if there's a movie played on the on

the screen and uh, guy and a girl gets into

bit who is not married in the in real life, right,

so they may be married in the movie, and then

there's a scene in the movie where it gets hot

and they get into bit. And then the next day, oh,

newspaper come out like this is offensive. How can they

do this? This, this goes against our values? And you

fast forward to now where we get so much worse

stuff on the TV, right, moral decay. Now it's okay

if even in the movie itself, like you know, the

guy and girl aren't married, you know, and then there's

an intimate scene or a guy and a guy or

a girl and a girl and a girl and and

stuff like that, which really shows the acceptance of people

and the perception of our culture of what is okay.

So you know, Micah, my second son, he's been asking

to listen to this song called Jesus Freak. You know, yeah,

d C Talk. I mean I grew up in that

that era, my mom in law and my aunts. I

think if they heard that song, they're like, what kind

of what kind of a song is this? Yeah? Yeah,

it's a rap song by DC Talk. But now I

think it's probably old school. Really, it's probably old school.

But the title of this song is Jesus freak. Okay,

it's a bit. Uh the word a g the title

and they sing about how John the Baptist is a

Jesus freak, or or another character in a Bible is

a is a Jesus freak. Because they were so counterculture,

they were so against what the norm was right and

more and more today, I believe if you want to

continue to be a salt and light, we need to

be freaks. We need to be almost like alien to

hold on to our belief. Uh. You know, another kid example, this,

this is my cantle. Why they've been asking to watch

this particular TV TV series on Netflix recently. I wouldn't

name the title because you know, yeah, because I don't know.

Maybe some of you are okay with it, but so

so they've been asking. You know why they've been asking

because their friends have been talking about it. So they

go to school and then they hear them sing the songs,

or they they hear the different characters in this particular

TV series and uh and they asked me to like, okay,

can we watch it now? Can we watch it now?

It is okay to watch uh and and LEVI especially

say this. You know that all my friends watch it.

They talk about it all the time, they sing the songs,

and I feel left out. I feel left out. Then

you tell me, but it's okay, Ladie, You tell me

when it's okay to watch. So uh. I think Laura

told him a few days a few weeks ago, that'll

we'll check it out first before allowing you to watch.

So then he asked, she asked me to go check

it out. But I'm fasting Netflix are so so you

be a wit forty days until. But I can feel

the pressure that my children are facing from their class

room just on a TV series, right, just on a

show that all their friends are watching, and it may

not be good for them. Just because it's on uh uh,

Netflix or any other TV program and has a you know,

nine year old rage or a six year old eighting,

It doesn't mean that it's good right, moral decay, and

more and more. I believe as we mature we have

to be Jesus freaks. We will we are going to

stand out more if we uphold to what God has

called us to be as Christians, assault and light. Okay,

so we just need to get used to that. Romans

to off us to do not conform to the pattern

of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of

your mind. Then you will be able to test and

approve what God's will is. He's good, pleasing and perfect will.

Someone of us says Leve Tickets twenty twenty six. You

are to be holy to me because I the Lord

am holy. So we are called to be said about.

We are called to be different. If we look exactly

like the surrounding, then our purity has probably dropped down

because we are like the dirt that is mixed up

with the salt. Right, So got call to be set

apart from the nations, to be my own right one

Peter to nine. But you are a chosen people, a

royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession that you

may declare the praises of Him who caught you out

of darkness into his wonderful light. Amen, So how do

we remember to turn on the switch to be salt

in light? Firstly, we need to know who God has

called us and they will believe us. And we need

to remember to be pure, and to be pure in

today's age probably means you're a Jesus freak. Go listen

to that song. The next part we're gonna go to

verse fourteen, we'll talk about light. So Matthew chapter five,

verse fourteen. Matthew chapter five, verse fourteen, you are the

light of the world. A city that is sat on

the hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a

lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand,

and it gives light to all who are in the house.

All right, So quick reminder of again some contexts. When

Jesus is walking on the earth, and obviously there was

no electricity, right, there was no wires and you press

a switch and the light will turn on. So how

did they get light? What was the light referred to

in Matthew chapter five. It was actually an oil lamp

and oil lamps. Have a picture of it, an oil

lamp over there, And how an oil lamp works is

probably not carbon neutral? At all. It's not as DG

as we have preaches now. But it uses a fuel

or oil or any kind of fuel and it burns

that feel to create light. Right. So when Jesus was

talking about light, he was referring to this, to this,

so how do we how do I switch it on?

So Jesus is not saying, if you want to be light,

just go and turn on the switch, but he was

referring to back in the day, you need to keep

your lambs filled with oil. If you want to switch

on your vacuum cleaner back in the day, you need

to fill it with oil. Right, And we know that

the oil in the Bible represents the Holy Spirit, right,

represents the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. So

the question is what are we filling our lives with

you want to keep being effective as light, if you

want to turn on the light, what are we filling

our lives with to keep our light burning in darkness?

Except the one Verus eight. But you shall receive power

when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. So this way

we see that great calling to go out. You shall

receive power. There's a precursor when the Holy Spirit comes

upon you, and you shall be my witnesses to me

in Jerusalem, in all Judaea and Samaria, and to the

ends of the earth. So there's one part of the

puzzle which we cannot live out, and that's the Holy Spirit.

That's the oil, that's the presence of the Holy Spirit.

They all represent the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.

So again, what are we filling our lives with. It's

all connected, right, if you remain pure, if you go

into God's word, if you spend time in this presence,

if you reject what the world has for us, then

we'll be filling our lives with the Holy Spirit, and

then we'll be effective. Okay. And the next part about light,

as I sort of draw towards the end, is the

is the next scripture that we read in verse fourteen

and fifteen verse fifteen. Nor do they light a lamp

and put it under a basket, but they put it

on a lamp stand right, and it gives light to

all who are in the house. So stay with me

for a while, tracking me for a short walls as

I close shortly, imagine doing all that work. So like

you have to go and buy oil, and you have

to prepare to light the lamp for the whole night

and you light the lamp and just put a basket

over it. It defeats the purpose, right, defeats the purpose.

Similar to what I said earlier, prepare the house to

vacuum for to turn it on. It's like, oh, man, seriously,

I don't know why that particular day also affected by

by not depending on the vacuum, Like it's like because

you're very busy d And then she was like, Okay,

I'll turn't VU for you tomorrow. I don't worry. I

don't know. Maybe God preparing me for this message. But

but it's because, like you, you've done so much preparation

and you're there's so much potential, but you're going to

put a basket over it. Like why why? Why? God

has given us salvation, God has given us freedom and

victory and victory over sin and healing. We have so

much potential in us. Why put a basket over our lives?

Why put a ceiling over what God can do? Who

am I to deny what God can do? Who am

I to deny what God can do in our lives,

in the lives of others? So, guys, I'm telling all

of us here today and my, my, I want to

just encourage all of us to not light the lamp

in our hearts. And we have the light already. God

has given us the light. Don't put your light under

a basket. Don't put your light under a basket. To

avoid doing that, we need to be very purposeful and

intentional with how we live our lives. Right, I have

a I have a quick story. Uh this this guy.

You can see this guy holding up a trophy. His

name is his name is Steve Young, Steve Young, and

may not be very very uh familiar to us. Okay,

of course he was in the fifties or sixties, I think.

And but and it's also NFL. Okay, so NFL is

American football any Americans? Yeah, California, So we don't play

American football here. Love we college football if we use

our legs to kick. But American football is different, small

like rugby. Okay, anyways, but his story is quite amazing.

His story is quite amazing. He was he was drafted

into the team called the let me find it, the

San Francisco forty nine ers, okay, in the eighties. And

the thing is he's a quarterback. So I need to

bring more context what's the quarterback? A quarterback is like

the star player in the NFL or American football team.

You can think about it as the NBA point guard, right, Okay,

no one plays them in here or like football, you're

like the striker or the forward person. So he's like

the the Ronaldo or football, or he's like the messy

or football. Okay, he's meant to play that very key

role in a team, right, and he was. He was

brought into a team where there was another quarterback, so

there's another star and a team readly, So basically he

went and joined the forty nine ers and he was

left to sit on the bench for two years. Right,

So imagine all that potential that he knows he has

in his heart. These guys are going for a football

tournament on Monday, right, Imagine being set on the bench

when you know you have all that potential to make

a difference on the court, to go out and score

some goals to bring your team to victory. So he

just sat on the bench for two years. Apparently he

was preparing himself love. But his opportunity came when the

starting quarterback had an injury. Right, So it's like finally

got and in my brain, the guy is injured, then

he had a chance. They have no choice. Alam this

guy is injured. Okay, we put the put the second

back up to go and play. And the quarterback is

a very important role in American football. So he had

his chance. And on the very first season he started right.

He just brought the team to victory. I think the

record was they won fourteen. They won fourteen and lost

two games that season, so that's amazing. He actually went

on to become the Pro Football Hall of Famer. So

what I'm trying to bring here is all of us

here are either going to be backbenches, sitting on a

bench with all that potential that we have, or we

have the chance to say, God, use me. We have

the chance to se I'm ready. I'm ready to be

intentional with how I live my life as a Christian

and be open to what you are showing me and

to be salt and light in the earth.
