  1. You're listening to a message to go from acts church.

  2. We hope this message will light up your day.

  3. Just wanted to begin and said that, you know, just now,

  4. when we were singing that song, it brought me back

  5. to It's almost like a time zone kind of a thing,

  6. and time zon sorry, a time walk, time travel kind

  7. of a thing.

  8. You know.

  9. The song that I was listening to or we were

  10. singing just now, it was nothing but the Blood of Jesus. Right,

  11. there was such an old classic song. Now when you

  12. say classic, my classic was two thousand and five classic.

  13. But that song is actually comes.

  14. From a hymn if you know the details, and it

  15. goes to the eighteen hundred, so it's really really classic

  16. and old, right. But yeah, it just brings back a

  17. lot of, uh, you know, special place in my heart

  18. that particular song because there was a time also where

  19. I sort of experienced a little bit of revival in

  20. my life. I was before there was a naughty, naughty

  21. kid born in Christian family but not doing what the

  22. Christian should be doing. Uh, And then you know, I

  23. I rediscovered and reconnected with Jesus again when I was

  24. abroad a loneliness and Jesus found me and that's where

  25. I reconnected. And that's why that song that we sing,

  26. you know nothing but the Blood of Jesus really speaks

  27. volumes when I hear it, every single thing, because it

  28. captures the essence of what, you know, what Joe is

  29. sharing earlier, What the blood does. It really resets cleanses.

  30. And because of that, you know, we we, you know

  31. we there's nothing that he cannot redeem. It's what I'm

  32. trying to say. And and this person here is a

  33. product of that redemption.

  34. Uh.

  35. And yeah, I think it's just amazing that it's just reminded.

  36. I think here the song tears sort of comes down anyway,

  37. All right, let's jump straight into it now. Today I've

  38. actually prepared a message that is, let's start with something

  39. thats okay. Let's start with something that's okay. Can you

  40. please lash up? Uh? The slide that says attending is easy. Okay, Sorry,

  41. I sort of switch things around a little bit.

  42. Now. What I wanted to share here is that.

  43. Sometimes we come to church, or come to any any

  44. form of small groups, even at sell groups, homes and

  45. all that we come and we maybe engage that little

  46. while and then the engagement sort of stops. Then of

  47. course I'm talking about the engagement with our Lord, you know,

  48. and you know what I'm trying to elude here. Engagement

  49. UH is required because that sort of sparks intimacy.

  50. Now do you know what intimacy?

  51. Isa'm not talking about the intimacy that you know, just

  52. you know, reserve for the married people, but the it's

  53. a lot intimacy in a lot of levels to know

  54. somebody is also intimate, right, and that intimacy can only

  55. happen or go to another level whenever we draw close

  56. to somebody and engage with somebody. Can we move to

  57. the slide that says we are made for intimacy? Let

  58. me just explain a little bit. Now, I'm an engineer,

  59. like what Joe is saying. Okay, I'm wired a little

  60. bit different with my engineering physics kind of a background, UH,

  61. and then later in life I delve into a little

  62. bit of UH teaching. So the way I operate and

  63. handle things and process things are a little bit different.

  64. Everything in my mind is like a like a chart.

  65. If this then that you know, If not, then this,

  66. So I need to understand how things work and how

  67. to also apply them practically.

  68. Okay, that's just me. I'm wired. I ask my wife.

  69. My wife is operating a different kind of a dimension.

  70. But this is how I am. So whenever I i'm

  71. even in teaching, I need to know and understand it

  72. very well, or at least to that context, break it

  73. down before I can pass on the no house. Okay,

  74. So when I look at this, for many years, I've

  75. always and again many years of being a Christian.

  76. Like I said, I've been ups and downs a little bit.

  77. But I often hear the concepts being taught in church.

  78. What Concept'm talking about, there is always something that we

  79. need to aspire to be or aspire two words rather,

  80. and what the expression is is to one to draw

  81. close to God, to commune with God, to have intimacy

  82. with God. And I hear the concepts being taught, but

  83. sometimes I cannot get a clear answer how it's done

  84. in the practical sense. Now, of course, in the earthly

  85. relationship is very easy. You know, everything is realized, but spiritually,

  86. how do you operate It's probably I'm trying to say here,

  87. how do you go the next level? So in other words,

  88. if you guys come from a Malay background, like when

  89. I was studying.

  90. What is the what is the.

  91. Example that you can understand and then somehow practice and

  92. replicate catchy, not just the concepts, right, you want to

  93. move beyond concepts.

  94. So I always.

  95. Looked at my pastors, my different church leaders and see

  96. the things that I always wonder, how does that actually happen?

  97. How does it work?

  98. How can I move from there from being just understanding

  99. and actually getting there practicing it? Okay, and this is

  100. what I think it can only happen true. I'm just

  101. gonna site set a little bit. This is all true discipleship.

  102. Many years of discipleship sort of prepared a little bit

  103. of the understanding and also go a bit deeper, because

  104. when you disciple, they don't just tell you, they show

  105. you and operate with you as well. So I've discovered

  106. some practical keys of how to be working with the

  107. Holy Spirit and increasing the anointing in my life. And

  108. also hopefully this is translatable to everybody else as well,

  109. because there is more than just what's happened by the engagement.

  110. You need to go deeper.

  111. There's essentially there needs to be an inner change that

  112. happens and accompanying that engagement to go deeper, so essentially,

  113. what I say is that the heart is also equally

  114. as important as just the engagement itself, because if it

  115. doesn't start right here, the engagement will be a little

  116. bit off understaid not okay, sorry if I'm throwing things

  117. around a little bit. But that's how my engineering brain works, okay.

  118. And that's why discipleship is always very crucial. It sets

  119. the framework to not just pass on knowledge, but pass

  120. on practical wisdom as well, so that for the purpose

  121. of spiritual growth. And we've spent a lot of time

  122. talking about what discipleship can look like and should look like,

  123. but these are some of the benefits of discipleship. Now,

  124. let us examine Jesus for a while.

  125. First.

  126. Now, if you look at Jesus, right, he doesn't appear

  127. to be a very structured type person. At least you

  128. don't conform to some of the rules that were set beforehand.

  129. On the surface, right, he tends to do things quite spontaneously. Right,

  130. people question them people to day like, hey, this is

  131. not according to what has been written here, but why

  132. do you do that? But yet he has a very

  133. clear purpose.

  134. On why he operates that way.

  135. All right, So Jesus is one of those that even

  136. when he's constantly yielding, constantly responding, constantly submitting, working with

  137. the Holy Spirit, there is always an end product of

  138. what the reaction should be. And I believe that it's

  139. always based on the intimacy that he has with Father God,

  140. and that's why it's very guided. Okay, so that's why

  141. I mentioned here we are made for intimacy.

  142. Are you engaged? Is the question here?

  143. That's not the title of the message today, by the way,

  144. I just started to throw this out there for now,

  145. but coming back circling back to the question that through

  146. at the beginning, attending is always easy. Going deeper in

  147. intimacy is.

  148. A different story altogether. It takes a bit more effort.

  149. It takes engagement, and if you do not learn to

  150. engage God personally, we end up like in transition. What

  151. I mean by transition is that it's like coming to space,

  152. renting that space temporary or renting an Airbnb, and then you

  153. move on. Sometimes coming to church could be like that.

  154. You come in, you rent a little bit of real

  155. estate in the context of God's presence, and then you

  156. move on. You do not become more permanent in that

  157. space beyond that Sunday, that one or two hours, and

  158. that is something that I think we ought to look

  159. at it a bit more seriously because otherwise, how different

  160. are we from the others out there? Okay, so next

  161. line haven't started yet, but many will visit. I use

  162. the word visit very loosely. You visit God's presence weekly,

  163. but few actually live there on a daily basis. Okay,

  164. that you process for a while. It took me a

  165. while to to to even come out with this.

  166. Now.

  167. The other question is are we temporary visitors? Are you

  168. just visiting a country? Or are you permanent residents citizens

  169. in His presence?

  170. Okay, food for thought. So today, coming back to.

  171. The slide on the intimacy that we've made for intimacy,

  172. I like to focus on how we can engage the

  173. Holy Spirit so that our lives.

  174. Become more meaningful in an intimate way.

  175. Okay, we'll explore some practical ways of doing this as well,

  176. not just how it can operate God Blessed Sunday services.

  177. We have people like the extreme band, Caro and Team

  178. to bring us to that level intimacy, but what happens

  179. beyond that?

  180. Right?

  181. So again I will hopefully by the end today you'll

  182. walk home with a little bit more equipped and seeing

  183. how it can practically take it on to the next level. Okay,

  184. because that's it isn't supposed to be complex theology, by

  185. the way, right our runter subscriptions, but it's not gonna

  186. suppose to be complex. It's supposed to be real. It's

  187. personal relationship with God. And with that engagement, then you

  188. will be transformed. Right then we can live, love and

  189. serve differently. Okay, So let me just pray before we

  190. carry on, all right, Father in heaven, we pray for

  191. just a wonderful, wonderful service today. I mean, thank you, Father,

  192. for all your servants that have you know, sacrifice, invested

  193. their time, Lord, and energy and effort into giving their

  194. life to serve you. Not just today, but you know,

  195. for the rest of the week. Father, we honor you

  196. this afternoon. Lord, I pray that you help us learn

  197. some of the keys. Lord, they will unlock what's in

  198. our hearts, our capacity to then engage you in a deeper,

  199. deeper level, in a deeper way. Thank you, Lord, and Jesus,

  200. may me pray Amen. Now, when I sort of put

  201. this together, it was a few weeks in the making,

  202. I sort of looked at it and told Jess, I

  203. don't think I can finish this in one okay, so

  204. I actually took it into two parts, so this will

  205. be the first part. So the title of my message

  206. when I take notes is God, I'm engaged.

  207. Now. The word engaged, right, can mean a lot of

  208. different things.

  209. Right, people are very happy when I'm engaged, right, of course,

  210. like I'm talking about spouses engaged to your future spouse

  211. that can engage.

  212. So it's a player of words, I know.

  213. But because there's so much in this today, I'm going

  214. to spend a bit more time just to talk about

  215. some of the contexts of how we are built for

  216. intimacy and how we are to practically make some things work.

  217. But let's put Part two, which.

  218. I'm coming back in two weeks, time to go a

  219. bit deeper in the practical bits. Okay, So that a

  220. little bit overlap, forgive me for that, but I hope

  221. that I can set the pace for part two. H

  222. And some of this material comes from a book called

  223. Hosting the Presence. You can look it up. It's by

  224. Bill Johnson. Okay, it's on kindles. You want to look

  225. at Kindlestore, Amazon or whatever. Okay, if you can't find

  226. in stores I know these days is rather find bookstores.

  227. But anyway back to how we are made for intimacy. Now,

  228. we are made to connect with people intimately. Right, we

  229. are also made to connect with God. One parend say

  230. is that when you connect with God, it's not a

  231. one way. You don't expect it to be just one direction.

  232. You expect something in return, right, uh, and he expects

  233. the same as well. But intimate relationships can be separated

  234. the two categories. Okay, what I call the spontaneous kind

  235. of moments mean to say, if you have a girlfriend

  236. or spouse, you sometimes use touch right, a heart or

  237. even a bff. You know, yo, bro, you know that

  238. is a form of expressional intimacy. Right, spontaneous not so planned? Okay,

  239. that is one way of going deeper. Now, there are

  240. also moments where it's what we're called plan intimacy. Now,

  241. one way I plan is structured times that you set

  242. aside to be a bit more focused in building the intimacy.

  243. Right.

  244. It could be dates, right if you're date the kind

  245. of dates it could be sharing meals together with somebody

  246. you want to go deeper in the relationship again, not

  247. just bgr kind of thing, but just anybody brother to

  248. brothers as well.

  249. Right, it could also be.

  250. Romantic times, you know, that kind of thing if you

  251. wanted to. But all these two categories can contribute to

  252. overall intimacy in the earthly sense.

  253. Okay.

  254. Now, our relationship relationship with God is also similar. Okay,

  255. but how do we do it. It's a bit different

  256. because it's very spiritual, but there's also the same two categories. Yes,

  257. be intentional mean today you cannot leave it to chance

  258. that oh, suddenly you will connect with God. If you

  259. do not pick up the phone or call him or

  260. even engage with him, it will never happens. So the

  261. structured time, I think we sort of understand this could

  262. come in when you do your devotion, when you pray,

  263. when you you know, find extra time to be alone

  264. with Him. Okay, that's the intentional, structured side of things.

  265. And throughout the day sometimes you know there are moments

  266. that God will touch your heart or touch you. Those

  267. are the unplanned ones. But collectively, the switching between the

  268. two collectively adds to how you can engage and continuously

  269. be intimate with God. Right in assent, and the flow

  270. or even the frequency of this would then add up collectively.

  271. And the more this happens either mode, right, the more

  272. you'll be aware of his presence. Otherwise, Again, just like

  273. even being in a home, right, you can be live

  274. in the same household, but you do not engage either

  275. spontaneously or you know, intentionally. He's just renting the room

  276. next door kind of a housemaid, right, and we don't

  277. want that to happen every Okay, so far, okay, So

  278. the question is how can we make it more effective?

  279. Right?

  280. And similar to what we do in the earthly intimacy,

  281. you need to be aware and have to do something

  282. to engage. Right now, what have been my awareness? If

  283. you are always being bought down by different aspects that

  284. takes you or distracts you. We sung about being distracted, right.

  285. If pressures in life come your way, it will rob

  286. you of your intimacy with God first most of the time.

  287. Why because I've got to tend to my wife, I

  288. got to tend to my son, I got to tend

  289. to the different ones. Uh. You know that I'm ministering

  290. to or rather pastoring in my life. But you know God,

  291. I don't see you. Maybe I can skip my date

  292. review And that's what's happened.

  293. Right. Even if there's health things.

  294. Health issues will also distract your financial issues anything even

  295. sometimes ministry issues when you deal with fixing things within

  296. the church, or this guy will how come we do this?

  297. That lady?

  298. How comes she do does that? Why our there like this?

  299. And you will spend the time and this will all

  300. take you away from ultimately pressing in to continue to

  301. engage God. So you'll rob you of your engagement. You'll

  302. rob you with intimacy with God. Okay, I we get

  303. it right now, So how do we all come it?

  304. Any anybody have any ideas?

  305. How do we do this? Again?

  306. It's back to this whole thing. We need to be discipline.

  307. You need to put an extra effort when things are busier.

  308. My family recently went through a lot of ups and

  309. downs in the hospital. We need to spend extra time

  310. just to make it work right. Same thing with people

  311. around us and also with God as well. So with

  312. this discipline effort and these things, you sort of establish encounters.

  313. You know, sometimes when God encounters you, it really encounters you.

  314. And you remember that and every time you need to

  315. draw from the encounter. Again, it's like almost like a

  316. deposit that you can pull and recharge. You charge you

  317. and go, But you need to make time for those encounters,

  318. for those breakthrough moments, for you to store away so

  319. that you can use it more effectively. Okay, Now this

  320. generation calls it on demand the expression, so can we

  321. have an on demand thing that we can pull? But

  322. if you want more on demand resources, you have to

  323. be more encounters. So it balls back down again, and

  324. jurineam Minor balls back down to how much you spend

  325. to engage, encounter and make it work. Otherwise, if you

  326. only have one encounter for ten years, you need to

  327. draw from one and then you'll be wondering how why

  328. am I spiring down this whole?

  329. Right?

  330. So again, the more you engage, the more you are prepared,

  331. the more you can on demand draw from it, and

  332. the more you can build them, and the more you

  333. can do better things and greater things. That's how important

  334. the presence is. And again here at chair Service, you

  335. know definitely we help you collective. There's a church to

  336. engage with the Lord. But some may say, you know,

  337. it's a powerful time today, but does it translate beyond,

  338. not even tomorrow. Can it translate tonight? Some people do

  339. quite that at night? Does it translate there?

  340. Right?

  341. Do we do that at work? Do we take it

  342. into our schools? Do we take it into outside of

  343. the church? A simply a simpler way to put it, Okay,

  344. And that's the question here. So really we ought to

  345. find ways to make it happen. Now I'm coming back

  346. to a few key points right now. Okay, first key

  347. point it really is to look at our stands, our position,

  348. what we uh, our attitudes?

  349. Another way to put it, Okay.

  350. We have to decide here first, not just here, but

  351. here first to make it work. And this is what

  352. I call time for a hard check. Okay, So I

  353. divide into three portions, three areas. You can take down

  354. some of the verses, or then you can look to it.

  355. We'll go to it one by one as well, but

  356. it will be distributed to desire, commitment. Elaborate a bit

  357. about that, and fifth and pursuit. Okay, all right, what

  358. is our position? If the attitude is not right in

  359. these three areas, we will never ever go deeper, you know, God,

  360. let me explain. Okay, firstly, desire, I put a funny

  361. picture there. Okay, what do you desire?

  362. All right?

  363. Now this comes from some but as you turn to

  364. Psalm twenty seven, this talks about King David and his response. Now,

  365. King David, by the way, if you know him, he's

  366. not just your ordinary like modern day king king, right,

  367. he is a king that not only rules, he is

  368. a warrior king or a king that is active in

  369. war times as well. That means it's almost like a

  370. general Come King, come man of God, et cetera, et cetera,

  371. a lot of portfolios. Okay, now you see if you

  372. understand him with that perspective, right when he prays to

  373. the Lord, you would expect him to pray like how

  374. we would pray. God, I cannot understand how to defeat

  375. this army. Please send me a bigger army, natural right,

  376. natural king, right, if if I remember in that position, natural,

  377. or if possible, send me more weapons. If possible, send

  378. me even machine guns or RPGs or whatever it is

  379. to make it work. I mean, I'm joking, of course,

  380. but it is a similar kind of prayer we pray

  381. for a miracle, because he again is battling in the

  382. physical sense, day in, day out.

  383. But look what he prays. Look what he prays.

  384. He didn't ask for any fighter planes, RPGs that I

  385. mentioned to you, not even swords. Okay, what did he ask?

  386. Let's go itsum twenty seven. Uh, sorry that the rates

  387. are not very clear by It's fine. One thing I

  388. ask from the Lord this only do I seek, that

  389. I may dwell in the house of the Lord all

  390. the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty

  391. of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. Okay,

  392. so one thing. He only asked one thing. How many

  393. of us usually pray. We pray like a whole long

  394. list of Santa Claus kind of thing. You know, you

  395. need ask one thing. Amazing, right, the discipline only one thing,

  396. and that one thing is not the immediate need. He's

  397. not the immediate threat that is coming towards him. He

  398. prays for what that may dwell in the house. Now

  399. give you some context as well. His consuming desire, okay,

  400. is to driell in the house. Now during that time,

  401. that era, Old Testament era. Okay, of course God is omnipresent,

  402. is everywhere, but God in that era used to manifest

  403. a lot in the temples quote unquote church better tamper

  404. bacle and all that his presence manifests there. Okay, So

  405. King David wants to chill out or hang out where

  406. the present of God is his only desire one prayer,

  407. and he wants to do that all the days of

  408. his life all you know, not just certain seasons, not

  409. just on a Sunday, all the days of his God

  410. given life.

  411. What a prayer is that man?

  412. And of courseure he praised there every single day? Right?

  413. Amazing?

  414. Of course today in the modern day context, New Testament,

  415. post Jesus and all that, you know, we believe that

  416. God is living in us. We are the church, you

  417. and me, not just the physical church or the company

  418. of believers that come together. We dwell in every single

  419. individual believer. But the question is do we engage although

  420. it's nearby, Last time David had to physically go somewhere

  421. to engage the presence of God. Now we have God everywhere,

  422. presence is everywhere dwelling in us.

  423. But are we and aging? Huh? Right? Interesting? Right? So

  424. he's so passionate, David.

  425. He's innermost desire, his intimacy. He wants that to live

  426. his nessy, to go deeper. He wants to encounter God

  427. and commune with him. That's all he wants. Right, So

  428. this is the first thing. It should always start with

  429. the heart. If you desire it, it will happen. If

  430. you do not desire it, it will not happen. Look

  431. at David, right, he's different because he's a man after

  432. God's heart, and he's also one that really wants that

  433. one thing. They seeks nothing else. Number two commitment. I

  434. purposally put this photograph over here. Obviously, commitment is another

  435. level when we talk about the marriage. Okay, because contextually

  436. also you know, God talks a lot about in this context.

  437. But why I bring this up is because sometimes look

  438. at relationships, even marriages in the earthly sense, sometimes we

  439. think it's a very casual thing. Now the West sometimes

  440. portrayed even a little bit different. They do a lot

  441. of casual relationships, not just where not just marriages, but

  442. when they engage somebody, even friends, it is very casual.

  443. I see you, I won't see you again, I see you.

  444. It's very casual. It's not intentional. Now we live in

  445. a very casual culture. Sometimes we choose to only be

  446. in a relationship or into some level commitment. If for

  447. two reasons, whether it's convenient for us or whether I

  448. can get something from that person. Right, most of the time, right,

  449. I don't want to chill with you if I don't

  450. think I can get any from you, or if it's

  451. not convenient for me.

  452. Right.

  453. So, in other words, casual relationship is always about the

  454. when it suits you or suits us me included, and

  455. where they can get something out of it. So what's

  456. the white And sometimes it starts off like that, and

  457. the moment it's not convenient or there is nothing else left,

  458. you have already absorbed everything to the point that there

  459. is it's all drained out, there's nothing else to give

  460. any more.

  461. You said, I'm out. Isn't like that, right? Relationships? Right?

  462. And again I'm not knocking, it's just general observation in

  463. relationships in this day and age. Now, if we think

  464. about that context and we put God in that picture,

  465. it is very wrong because when God goes in relationship, right,

  466. it's very different for him. Our God with some earlier

  467. is a covenant keeping you know, being his covenant keeping God.

  468. When he friend friend you is not a level.

  469. It is like a marriage kind of level cannot be

  470. broken with some dead as well, so it's a big deal.

  471. Whether it's he initiate or you initiate, it's a big deal.

  472. But sometimes we engage, we go into relationship with God.

  473. But then when it's not convenient or when it's tough, God,

  474. why you? You sort of take a step back. But

  475. God is like what gives men. It's a big deal

  476. for him. And that's what I'm trying to explain here,

  477. because when he enters in, he enters with a different perspective.

  478. He's committed to the very end, just like in a marriage. Okay,

  479. now I'll give you an example. Now when we are

  480. I'm married to my wife. Right, we don't do casual

  481. relationships as as freely as we used to do. Now

  482. what I mean, my dad, I may be hanging out

  483. and chilling out with people, but I try not to

  484. chill with maybe ex close not girlfriends like lovely with

  485. the girlfriends, but close friends of opposite gender. Okay, why

  486. because it's also guiding my marriage? And also maybe perhaps

  487. she's also not cool with it. I mean, I know

  488. I wouldn't be cool, too cool with it if he

  489. hung out with all the BFFs male bfs from before.

  490. I don't think I'll be comfortable for too long, even

  491. though there's a trust and all that. I think, but

  492. it's not comfortable. Now imagine this right, when God is

  493. in a relationship with you, you hang out or chill

  494. out or give a different level of commitment. And he's

  495. a God. That is why it whenever goes readship is

  496. it's always covenant. It's very covenantal What will he feel

  497. if you? If you and I can be jealous in

  498. the earthly sense, what more can God feel? And we

  499. you know, we read about God being a jealous God.

  500. This is exactly what it is to him. When you

  501. break that commitment is almost as good as akin to

  502. an adultery. That's how he sees it, because you're breaking

  503. a relationship. So that's why I'm trying to explain to you,

  504. when we commit to God, you must understand the perspective.

  505. He's very serious about this, So let's not joke about it.

  506. And again, jealousy is not always a bad word. There

  507. could be good, healthy jealousy as well. Okay, in this context,

  508. he wants to continue that covenant. He has to keep

  509. the covenant that he will be jealous to the very end,

  510. jealous of your time, jealous of your even to your spouser.

  511. You always have to love God more than your spouse,

  512. like it or not. Right, So we gotta take it

  513. seriously because he takes it seriously. All right, But that's

  514. not how the world sees it. Right now, let's look

  515. at Luke ten I'll go a bit deeper here. This

  516. is the story. Of course, we know this story quite well,

  517. story of Marta and Mary. Right, um, you'll know the

  518. story right by the way, got to do good to everything? Fine, right, okay,

  519. Now you look at this story, right, Marta or rather Mary,

  520. in this story, chooses to engage, to listen, to connect

  521. with Jesus. Right, So, essentially, in a nutshell, she chose intimacy.

  522. But Marta chose the other thing. She chose to be busy,

  523. chose to be I mean serving. Now, serving is not wrong,

  524. don't get me wrong. Okay, Serving is important, can can

  525. can be good as well, but you must always serve

  526. with intimacy as your foundation. You can be serving with

  527. the intimacy, and that's just not as a good service

  528. as if you had intimacy, and your serving is a

  529. product of intimacy. They confusing everybody. Now, okay, all right,

  530. let's look, let's att bit deeper. Let's read forty one

  531. Marta mata. The Lord answered, you are. You are worried

  532. and upset about many things, but the few things are needed.

  533. To be more specific, indeed, only one is important. This

  534. is what Jesus teaching right, Only one is important. Mary

  535. has chosen what is better and it will not be

  536. taken away from her. Now, if you look at this,

  537. you understand serving, as I mentioned, comes from a flow

  538. of intimacy. If you do not have that even outside,

  539. just to understand this, when you serve, or give or

  540. minister with intimacy in mind or with love, somebody say

  541. your love, so genuine your service, so genuine people can

  542. see it. Right, So it's very important to have that intimacy.

  543. Now again, Mary has done it right because she focused

  544. on the more sustainable, long term stuff, which is the

  545. eternal value. And here it says that the eternal value

  546. cannot be lost.

  547. Right.

  548. She focused on engagement. She prioritized spiritual nourishment. Can sound

  549. a bit how I put it, can sound a little

  550. bit selfish, but she wants to be nourished. She wants

  551. to absorb the presence, and she's not worried about the

  552. temporal things. Service can sometimes also be temporary as well.

  553. About the matter focus on.

  554. She focused on the other aspect, the thing that's not

  555. so sustainable, and you see after that, she became.

  556. A little bit more resent reasonful. Right.

  557. In fact, the way she she say things, the words

  558. that came out, there's a lot of self pity, a

  559. lot anger and sometimes you wonder, right this lady Christian

  560. or not?

  561. Right?

  562. She's serving, doing all the right things, but the end

  563. product and I think one of the things that we

  564. do not realize, right she says, she's very lonely as well.

  565. Why because I think she failed to connect or engage

  566. you Jesus. So again this is also a warning for us,

  567. because that's why we need to really invest in engaging

  568. God all the time, because we can be doing this

  569. thing on autopilot without the fullness that's intended to be.

  570. All right, And if you look at this, commitment is

  571. really a choice, right, you need to decide to do it.

  572. If you don't engage, you don't decide to engage, you

  573. will not engage. And let's look at this in terms

  574. of what happens in the natural and how does it

  575. trusted to the supernatural I think there's a lot similarities

  576. as well. There's a lot of parallels, right because just

  577. like how you need to make time. Firstly, what they say,

  578. you need to have the desire right. Secondly, you need

  579. to decide, or to be more specific, to commit to

  580. this because you and I know, just like in a

  581. natural sense, if you do not have the desire to

  582. connect with a fellow friend or a peer, and you

  583. do not commit to that relationship, it will never suddenly

  584. drop down from the sky right.

  585. What more, with God?

  586. Right, without the desire, there will be no intimacy God.

  587. Without the commitment to build that relationship with God, it

  588. will never happen as well. I mean he will reach out,

  589. but it will never be as frueful as its supposed

  590. to be.

  591. Now you see, you also know.

  592. That myself and my wife sometimes we schedule a lot

  593. of things great intentionally we fill up our clean because

  594. now this got all this said? Or do you to

  595. help us, you know, do things a bit more systematically.

  596. We share the same calendar and we book time with people.

  597. Now why is it important? Because we commit to certain people,

  598. we want to invest in this discipling those people as well,

  599. and we go through our rounds. Why because there must

  600. be a desire, it must.

  601. Be a commitment. It's not easy. But what drives is

  602. because of these two things.

  603. Now, in saying that as well, we also categorize our

  604. kids in there, so we also schedule time for kids.

  605. We don't neglect them because why they are so humans

  606. they need the time.

  607. So again, why do we do that.

  608. With the kids because we are committed to growing that relationship.

  609. If they're not important, whatever, So if we say God

  610. is important, we need to also commit the time to

  611. really go deeper and engage. And as I said earlier,

  612. all these things, the first two it's all the heart,

  613. because he'll decide not to do it. You'll never come

  614. to fruition, right, you never come to pass. So remember,

  615. there needs to be desired engaged with God. And secondly,

  616. they need you need to remain committed because sometimes it's

  617. easy to start but hard to progressively carry on. It's

  618. not easy. But one thing that really drives and motivates

  619. is the third point there, which is that He will

  620. reward us. I mean, I'm not saying that we should

  621. always look at a character only, but this is a

  622. bonus as we diligently seek him have faith and continue

  623. to put you know, continue to pursue, he will reward us. Okay,

  624. I put in this photograph over there with somebody climbing.

  625. Actually put in another photograph of a child's running. But

  626. one trying to say is that pursuit. You know, it's

  627. something even climbing, right, it's not something that is achievable

  628. once you know what you don't see, what you don't

  629. see in the rest of those people that continuously pour

  630. in into it, it's all the failures as well. So

  631. why do I put faith and pursue? Because faith is

  632. only the very first step, you know, if you can

  633. think of it like games are I used to play

  634. games or the game anyway.

  635. It's like second level gaming.

  636. First level is just to prepare to engage you me

  637. low level boss, the higher level boss, right, is really

  638. to pursue because pursue means to continue to run. After pursue,

  639. you chase, right, you keep climbing, you keep persevering, and

  640. it's not easy. But why do you do this? Because

  641. there is a purpose. You understand why you are doing it,

  642. and this is the reward and the goal I'm talking about, right,

  643. And where does this come from? If you look at

  644. Hebrews eleven. It says here, all right, teaches us that

  645. we must believe God exists, that he rewards those who

  646. casually approach him diligently seek him. And that's why I

  647. say it cannot be a casual relationship. It is diligently

  648. seeking him. It doesn't say casual at all, but sometimes

  649. we go into it with that casual perspective because we

  650. are so used to casual and that is the danger here.

  651. All right, So your is smile at the thought of

  652. people casually coming to church, right, but we want, we

  653. ought to know that to go deeper, you need to

  654. really have a genuine effort to pursue, to commit. I'm

  655. gonna put some some quotes over here. Albert Einstein says

  656. said this before. It's not that I'm so smart. It's

  657. just that I stay with the problems longer. What does

  658. it mean, keep on doing it? Ben Franklin, Energy and

  659. persistence conquers all things. All right, Again, these are just

  660. some famous quotes that are not you know, people of faith,

  661. but you know there is some level of truth there

  662. as well. Okay, So what I'm trying to elude here

  663. is that there is a power in focus.

  664. Actually I just realized that. Yeah, power focus classes.

  665. Yeah, anyway, you look at this photograph x TV. Right.

  666. Gab tried to correct this photograph.

  667. Then later I told him I intentionally put it like

  668. this because the word focus is she there, but you

  669. can't really see it because you have to focus to

  670. see the word focus. There is a power and focus.

  671. So he fixed my thing that I tell you unfixed it. Yeah,

  672. But what I'm trying to say is that if focusing

  673. is one aspect in your leadership with God, to make

  674. it work, because you know it needs to happen to transform,

  675. it's worth you dropping everything.

  676. And make it work. It's some praise here. So you

  677. need to remain focused.

  678. And if this principle is true, just like how we

  679. learned it at what's your homes last week, you have

  680. to not be easily distracted. You need to seek God diligently.

  681. And what does it mean without any focus on any distraction,

  682. Focus your eyes on Him, focus on the word focus.

  683. You will not see.

  684. Anything else that always tend to rob you of that.

  685. Otherwise we can be in the risk of being the martyrs.

  686. We focus on the wrong things right, But the most

  687. important thing is really you know, seeking God diligently. Now,

  688. I'm quite sure some of us have heard different ones

  689. from our church maybe had some help scarce.

  690. Not too long ago.

  691. I mean, I'm going to use maybe one of I

  692. mean mentioned names, but one of them. When he had

  693. that healthcare, he decided to turn things around very quickly

  694. and inten intensively make changes in his lifestyle, of course,

  695. to to to ensure that, you know, he preserves life.

  696. But there need to be immediate adjustments. Now, what is

  697. what is that actually is actually focused? When you know

  698. something is important, you need to do something immediately. So

  699. the questions if you do not do it, is it

  700. because we do not realize it, We're ignorant. We need

  701. a wake up call. There is a question here. But

  702. of course, to make changes, there's always a price to pay,

  703. and that's why circling back again, you always have to persevere.

  704. The pursuit is not easy.

  705. Level two, big boss, you know, next level stuff. Some

  706. times people don't do it because they don't understand what

  707. needs to be done. Or it could be they realize

  708. what price they pay and therefore they flee away from

  709. paying that price because it's too costly, right, Or sometimes

  710. they want to choose to remain confused.

  711. But I hope that you.

  712. And I will know and recognize the importance of this,

  713. because it's actually a bigger problem than the problem itself,

  714. the problem, the problem of not ignoring God or not

  715. building a relationship with God, or not engaging with God.

  716. It's actually a problem when you do not do what's required,

  717. not so much the problem itself. Okay, now, some people

  718. will say, how do you then do this? I'm going

  719. to the practical stuff right now. Does it mean I

  720. pray more?

  721. Yes? And no, I guess doesn't mean I begin to read.

  722. The Bible more? Yes, you know as well. Okay, how

  723. exactly do I pray? I used to ask myself that question?

  724. How do I pray? Do I have to you know?

  725. Do certain things? Check certain boxes? How do I read

  726. cover the cover? Or do I go through?

  727. You know how?

  728. And sometimes people don't know. That's why they.

  729. Don't do it.

  730. Like it's like seeing a lot of homework piling up right,

  731. I don't want touch it because I don't know where

  732. to start. It's something like that. I'm sometimes cripple like that.

  733. I don't know how to begin. My son, my younger

  734. side like this, So much work I don't do never

  735. gets done. But at the same time, you also recognize

  736. that you need to start somewhere right otherwise, you know, know,

  737. So let's explore some practical approaches. Okay, and again, like

  738. I said, I'm going to cover everything because I've got

  739. a lot more. But again, circling back is really the

  740. hard issue. Like we say you have to ensure desire

  741. is that you have to be hungry.

  742. You have to be committed.

  743. It's tough, you think, Charles just random we get up

  744. every day morning at four or six o'clock just to

  745. just for the sake of your your housemate, know right,

  746. it's not easy. His commitment their days he hang out

  747. with me, he's like late and he's like, I don't

  748. know how tomorrow get up. But commitment, right, it has

  749. to happen. If you study the Bible, the text right,

  750. all the Bible greades right.

  751. Have always made the decision.

  752. They're not great because of the background that they come from.

  753. They have desire and they have the tennacity. They want

  754. to do it. They want to deepen their Look at Daniel,

  755. he remained faithful, praying three times a day, even though

  756. the world hasn't don't do it.

  757. He opened the window and do it.

  758. Some more because that's his custom, right, Moses, what do

  759. you do? He spent forty days on the mountain.

  760. We've gone. It's easier. It's not commitment.

  761. Now, dude, back then got no I don't know, no, no,

  762. no motorized no what they gotta the cable car whatever

  763. it is, you know, to go up there. So like Kio,

  764. you know, forty days you know, on the mountain, and

  765. like David Short, God's presence every day, not just some day,

  766. every day. Even Nihimaya when he was constantly building the walls,

  767. he was constantly communing with God. So bottom line is

  768. it is discipline. And this is where discipleship can help

  769. because you're the ones that are walking alongside you. Is

  770. going to help you do this better or do this

  771. more effectively. It's just like a gym buddy, right, How

  772. do you know jim is more effective and you got

  773. a buddy with you.

  774. Right, somebody will.

  775. Yell at you you can't do two more, right, and

  776. you just do two more you three. But otherwise on

  777. our own you're like, you know, so, yeah, have the

  778. desire commitment, but you cannot do it. Call a friend,

  779. get somebody to help you out. Now, let's look through

  780. some biblical patterns of this. I'm going look to Psalms

  781. because Salms is very good for this. Like I said,

  782. I will not be able finish all the things that

  783. I do Part two, But let's just finish off with

  784. Psalms one hundred and Psalms ninety five. I've go to

  785. fetch up Psalms right now. This is a sum of thanksgiving. Okay,

  786. let's read this together. Verse one, make a joyful shout

  787. to the Lord.

  788. What does it say? Shout?

  789. You know, you know how rowdy service supposed to be,

  790. or how rowdy even if your personal worship is supposed

  791. to be. You shout, you know, sometimes you're like home,

  792. we need to wake up my neighbors or my pet.

  793. Dog or whatever.

  794. Shout you know, joyful, right, and it is only for

  795. some people. You read carefully right to the Lord, all

  796. you lends, which means everybody, not just the not there's

  797. the jewels in our lives. Yeah, he's sharned by the fault.

  798. Also shout, but all of us are to do it right.

  799. Serve the Lord with gladness, come before his presence with singing.

  800. Right, don't come. But oh man, you know sometimes we

  801. feel like that.

  802. You know, it's tough day, tough week, tough man, tough season,

  803. tough whatever. Right, come before him his presence, say the

  804. word presence with singing, Know that he know that the Lord,

  805. he is God right. Gonna jump to verse four, enter

  806. into his gates with thanksgiving, We praise, be thankful, bless

  807. his name, for the Lord is good, His mercies is everlasting.

  808. His truth endures to all generations, even if it's a

  809. bad voice. I'm not gonna mention names, but some of

  810. us know some names.

  811. You know, get.

  812. What it's just the term turn death. Correct, They still

  813. give their best because this is what is required. So

  814. what I look at this, this whole sum right.

  815. Is actually.

  816. A process, process engineer, process of encountering. You do this,

  817. you initiate this, you get this, you get there, You

  818. encounter him by doing all this processes right, So what

  819. I want you to do There's a lot of things

  820. over there, but on you to focus on process. If

  821. there's anything that you're stuck with, maybe try it again.

  822. Maybe that's why you're not engaging, because we have not

  823. been doing it.

  824. If David did it, and if Jesus did it.

  825. I think we should do it right. That's way sums

  826. venty five similar ish. So sorry, it's very small. Oh,

  827. thanks all breaking it up for me. Yeah, because it's

  828. sus a similar way. Oh, let us sing to the Lord.

  829. Let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation.

  830. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, shout joyfully

  831. to him with psalms.

  832. I don't hear a lot of immens here.

  833. Sometimes when we again, when we pray and and maybe saying,

  834. and we worship, it's always very quiet, and you always

  835. wonder why then we are not connected? Right again, I'm

  836. also a very quiet but by nature I always say

  837. I'm introvert, but but you know, extrovert by requirement, because yeah,

  838. it is what it is. Right Now, come, let us

  839. worship and bow down. Let us kneel before the Lord,

  840. our God, our maker, for he is our God. We

  841. are the people of his pastures, the sheep of his hand. Today,

  842. if you'll hear his voice, don't harden your heart. So again,

  843. it's a process, it's a journey. The Bible is very

  844. clear what needs to be done. I'm running out of

  845. time here, so I'm just gonna wind down to a

  846. close if I can break down to the next slide. Ah,

  847. this is what the process is. If you look through

  848. the two verses that we had earlier.

  849. I know, sometimes we are caught up with emotions.

  850. Our soul is unrest Like I said, a lot of

  851. things in the natural sense will demand us.

  852. And some of the devil is like this, he still

  853. kills and destroy.

  854. True, these little things, right, distract you maybe in the

  855. physical so that you are distracted in the spirituals or

  856. you cannot give your spiritual best right. And you know,

  857. if you say you cannot shout right, I've seen some

  858. people shout for their especially in sports. People go bonkers,

  859. you know. Sometimes it's like they lose it. But we're

  860. supposed to be unashame right when we worship.

  861. But how come you so right?

  862. I've seen parents sometimes shouting and screaming at you know,

  863. those small kids. What what telling matches? They cannot you know,

  864. but to the Lord no. So now praise is important

  865. because praise aligns you, aligns you spiritually, body, soul and

  866. spirit everything comes together.

  867. Right.

  868. So if this is not done, the flow, if you

  869. think of it like a pipe, there's a gem somewhere.

  870. There's a clock somewhere, right, and you wonder why the

  871. spirit doesn't flow, true, it doesn't flow.

  872. To the spirit.

  873. Sorry, always start with praise first, then we go into worship. Right,

  874. we flow in that order, even though in the practical

  875. extreme side way, there's a reason why these are done

  876. in that order. Right, And you will understand. When you're

  877. go into worship, you build the atmosphere, the intimacy. What

  878. happens usually you will find that all of a sudden,

  879. God invades your space. You come so close to you

  880. and you'll cry and tear and get you know, they

  881. given experienced supernatural stuff in that moment. Why, Because God

  882. invades your space in worship, he is engaging you. He

  883. is responding to you when you are engaging him.

  884. So worship is no intimacy, right.

  885. He invades your space and sometimes he does it in

  886. the quiet as well loud, and then suddenly he'll come

  887. in the quiet. But like I said, there needs to

  888. be the sacrifice. That's why it's called sacrifice of praise.

  889. Rights. It's not easy.

  890. Sometimes, like I said, you are in a very palty

  891. mood because of whatever my brother will fighting or whatever.

  892. Sometimes me and my wife argue in that mood, but

  893. you know, you have to bring in the sacrifice of

  894. the move way, even though it's a bad way. You

  895. need to continue to praise. You need to praise and

  896. shout in the natural so that the soul and spirit

  897. can then flow together. And then the spirit of worship

  898. then comes. And the last point there is really when

  899. He speaks to you is when you hear that voice.

  900. It's a spirit to spirit connection. Ready, when he reaches

  901. that level. Okay, when you engage God, he comes to

  902. you through our spirit and you feel it. Sometimes it

  903. flows so freely, like it gushes in like a burst

  904. pipe kind of thing. Why because everything is unclocked up thereaday,

  905. and look, like I said, all these may sound very fundamental,

  906. very principle how we do, but I'll go deeper next

  907. time around on the practical stuff. But once you get

  908. the big picture or why sometimes we do not encounter God,

  909. why we do not have that level engagement that we

  910. yearn for, there may be some unclogging that needs to happen.

  911. Because God communes with us in the spirit. Is spirit

  912. the spirit, So what's blocking that flow? I'm gonna invite

  913. the band to come out right now, I'm done for today.

  914. But the key thing here today is that you need

  915. to make changes. You need to quickly decide, choose even

  916. having the design, to decide to want the desire, and

  917. then you work towards a desire. And of course, like

  918. I said, commitment, when you commit to something, you need

  919. to take it on to the next level. You cannot

  920. just play play with God, because our God is not

  921. a play play God. When he enters into a commitment

  922. is a marriage man. He will not let go, So

  923. do not toy with him. Do not play with him.

  924. You know, when I was pregnicted message, I didn't know

  925. that they were going to sing this song. So when

  926. I was telling Jesse, you think I can asking the

  927. things on there, I realized the song list they put

  928. in this song on the President there was a song

  929. that was keep coming to me. But as we close

  930. the first segment for today, I hope you got something

  931. from this. I know it's all still very very fairy,

  932. some key things there, But next time you meet again,

  933. I think I will go a bit deeper on how

  934. this can be done. I'll talk a little bit about

  935. you know what, how do we worship? You know, Bible

  936. talks about meditation as well. How do we then meditate

  937. and go deeper the practical stuff by wey behavior? But

  938. I don't think I can squeeze it all together. That's

  939. why I thought I would do more justice by having

  940. a part two. Okay, but as we come to a close,

  941. I like to invite you to respond wherever you are,

  942. as the Lord have shown us that there's a pattern

  943. on what needs to happen, right from praise to worship

  944. to deeper intimacy which then leads us to hearing his voice.

  945. This journey can own need be formed if we are disciplined.

  946. And as I mentioned, if you're not disciplined, there is

  947. always avenues to help you be disciplined. So if you're

  948. not in some form of discipling relationship, it's still not

  949. too late.

  950. Those that have, Like I said, we are where we are.

  951. Some of the leaders is because people have invested in us,

  952. people have walked alongside us and allowed us to then.

  953. Be intimate with our Lord.

  954. Like I said, they cannot do that part for you,

  955. but they can guide you so that it becomes sustainable

  956. and workable for you. So from where I stand now,

  957. I'm just gonna issue up a call. I believe the

  958. message has gone forth. I pray that God would meet

  959. you wherever you are in your fresh way today. Like

  960. I said, it's not to be complex. He's just merely

  961. calling out to you. He wants to be intimate with you.

  962. He wants to go deeper with you. Would you say

  963. yes to that? If that's you today, allow me to

  964. pray for you. You just be where you are, say yes

  965. in your heart and I'll lead you to respond. Thank you, Lord, Father.

  966. You see this hearts, the hands in their hearts that

  967. have been lifted high to say, Lord, I want to

  968. respond to your call to go deeper in my relationship

  969. with you. Thank you Lord, because you are a God

  970. who takes this seriously. You know a distant God. You

  971. are a God who pursues us. Even so, give us

  972. the courage, Lord to press in in praise until we

  973. see that breakthrough happen.

  974. In your presence.

  975. We hope you've been blessed by this message. For more
