Now, for those of you who was not able to

join us last weekend, Pastor Kenneth himself covered a very

important value which is community evaluated. Now, if you missed

that message, I would like to encourage you to get

church without community, we won't be able to go far. Amen?

We can only do this with one another.

But today, we're going to tackle another value which is

growth resulting.

Can I have my slides up?

Yes.

Let's go to the first verse of the day. Acts 2.47.

Acts 2.47b. And the Lord added to the church daily

those who were being saved.

Someone say amen.

How many of you would like to see that in

our church today? Oh, nobody wants to see that. Do

you want to see that? Do you want to see

people added daily to the church and not just people

who are added but people who are being saved? I

think it's a wonderful picture, right? I think it becomes

something that is weird when the disciples enter into the

synagogue and see that there was nobody being saved. It's

something that's weird to them because to them, when they

were filled with the power of the Holy Spirit, the

Holy Spirit added people, brought new people within their midst,

not just bringing them there, but they were being saved. Hallelujah.

Praise the Lord. I think that should be our longing,

our desire.

Yeah, not just to see newcomers, Because to us, newcomers

goes to everything that we know in this earth. Like

we have sports sessions and we have newcomers. We have

jobs and we have newcomers. Newcomers are something that we celebrate.

But what we celebrate even more is that when they

receive Christ into their hearts.

That's what we celebrate.

And that's what God can do if we allow Him

to take over. Now, I want to open with an

opening statement. And I'm going to tell you this, that

healthy things grow. Yeah? If you're healthy, you grow. Amen? Amen?

I don't know how many of you agree with that statement.

If you're healthy, you grow. Yeah?

Growth is the natural result of health.

Yeah? Some looking growing sideways. Although I've been there, I've

been there. I grew sideways and then I un-grew sideways

as well. But growth is the natural result of health.

And where there is genuine life, increase will follow. Yeah? Now,

some of us, when we look at the word growth,

and they'll be thinking like, hey, actually, whether Peter healthy

or not, they still grow.

Now, we're talking about the posture of your heart.

Yeah, we're not just talking about your physical health because

how many of you know that you can grow in size,

but sometimes your mind still can remain a baby? Ouch. Yeah?

Your mind doesn't grow, but your body grows. That is

not a nice thing to see. And I've experienced grown-ups

still thinking like children.

I myself was one of them. But I had to

grow up.

I had to grow up. Someone say, grow up. Come on.

Come on, church.

We have to grow up. Enough of all those petty disagreements.

Just grow up.

Can we do that? May sound a little bit harsh,

but enough. Enough of all those, like, you hurt me,

I hurt you. You think I've never been hurt in

my life? Do you think that I have never been offended?

Do you think that I have never been misunderstood? No.

It happens. It happens to all of us. Yes, there's

a time for everything. There's a time to grieve. There's

a time to weep. But there's also a time to

grow up. Yeah? There's a time to expand your capacity

to forgive. There's a time to expand your heart to

allow the Holy Spirit to point you to the cross.

Now maybe I'm using myself as an example, but do

you think Jesus was never offended in His life? Do

you think that Jesus was never treated unfairly in His life?

We keep saying that we want to be like Him.

We keep saying that we want to experience what He experienced.

We keep saying we want His miracles. But some of

us want His miracles, but do not want His breaking.

We're not willing to take the breaking, but we want

the miracle. But do you know in order to get

the miracle, sometimes breaking will have to take place. Amen?

All the gym goers say?

All the gym goers say? No gym goers here? All

the gym goers say, come on, if you want to

build muscles, you got to break it in the name

of Jesus. Come on. How many of you, you think

you can build your muscles by lifting 1kg? Come on guys,

I do 1kg reps. How many reps? Once. Because 1kg.

How many of you think you can build your muscles

with 1kg? No. You got to build with the 100kg.

Which only Albert can lift. But when you build with

the 100 kgs, again, I'm not a gym goer, so

I don't know. Something breaks. Amen? Something breaks. So healthy

things grow. Turn to your neighbour and say that again.

Come on.

The early church, the early church didn't have a marketing team.

Amen? My wife is into marketing now. So I have

to tell her this, that marketing is not everything. Yeah?

Marketing is not everything, but in this day and age,

it kind of is.

But the early church didn't have marketing, yeah?

They didn't run campaigns or plan outreach strategies.

Do you think they did that?

No. The early church just simply lived out their faith

and the Lord added to them daily. This tells us

something very important, that growth here is ultimately God's work. Amen?

When a church grows, it is who? It is God.

Amen?

It is God. It is Him who brings the harvest.

Amen? When the church grows, when the church grows, it

is His work. So it's ultimately His work. What is

our job then? Our job is not to manufacture growth.

Someone say, someone tell your neighbour that. Our job is

not to manufacture growth. Don't manufacture it out of thin air. Like,

you know, I want to grow, I'm going to start

doing it by my own strength. But our job here

is to create the right conditions. Someone say right. right

conditions and trust Him for the increase. You create the

right conditions. You water the soil, right? You plant the seed.

You create the right conditions, right? You don't put a.

Seed in the desert and expect it to grow, no.

You put the seed in a place that it can

grow but when it grows or not, Whether it grows

or not, the gardeners say amen. It's not really dependent

on whether the soil is good. No. Sometimes there are

things that can't be explained. Why this thing grows? Later

we'll cover a passage in the Bible that speaks to

us about that. So our job is to create the

right conditions and trust Him for the increase.

Amen. Can I be honest with you?

I'm going to speak a little bit to those that

Perhaps you have been serving, you have been a Christian

a long time. Long time. Right?

You were born a Christian. Some of you like to

say that.

Yeah?

We were never born a Christian.

But, if growth is natural, and some of us would

like to argue that, why do many of us feel

utterly rung out when we try to produce it? We

feel tired. We feel like we are being squeezed. Whenever

something is being challenged, we feel like, oh, it's getting

a bit tired here. I don't feel like growing so

fast anymore. I would like to control the rate in

which I'm growing as a believer in Christ. Do you

know that you can't do that? When Ezra grows, he grows. Yeah?

Sometimes even overnight, he shoots up a couple of stories.

When you grow, you grow. You can't control it, brother.

You can't. The last time when Ezra joined us, he's

as short as the chair. But now he has taller

than me. Praise the Lord. Is he taller than me?

Are you taller than me? No, not yet.

Soon lah, soon. Definitely taller than Albert, but it's okay.

Whoa!

Getting a bit, ugh, here.

Alright. He's not here lah. I just want him to

come in.

That's why I'm speaking about him.

But yeah. Yeah. Amen. I don't know how many of

you have heard of this thing called hustle culture. Yeah,

work without stopping. Because it tells us that rest is

for the weak. That if you are, I once asked

someone this, if you have one wish, what would you

wish for? He said, I wish I don't have to sleep. Why?

Because I don't have to waste eight hours of my life. Wow,

you're wishing against the will of God. Because He created

us in a specific way. Rest for the weak. That

if you're not exhausted, you're not trying hard enough.

Asian culture.

Yeah? And somewhere along the way, that mindset crept into

the church life as well. Now, before you start pointing fingers,

let's reflect a little bit on our own lives, yeah?

We started measuring spiritual maturity by how tired we are.

We start coming into groups and we're saying like, hey,

you serve how many service?

Two only?

Three, you know?

What are you trying to say? How many WhatsApp groups?

We are in? How late we stayed back to stack

the chairs? Sometimes when we do things out of a

place of our own strength, our own mind, you know,

things can start to creep in.

Why am I always the last to lock up the church?

Why is everybody able to go out and have a

good lunch at 201 Roaster House? And by the time

I reach 201 Roaster House, the char siew is gone. Why?

Why is it that I always have to be the last?

Sometimes when we start thinking that way and we start

speaking that way, it gets a little bit dangerous, you know?

Because you no longer do it out of the joy

of the Lord, but you're doing it as an act

of service, as if God owes us. Because we stack

up a few chairs and God owes us to reserve

that char siew for us. He owes us. That's why

when we go to 201, we go like, no more

char siew. We look at God, God, I'm no longer

going to stack the chairs anymore. You get what I mean, right?

We do things and we expect a pat on the back.

We expect the pastor to go up to you and say,

well done, well done for serving. And when the pastor

does not do that, you feel like, ayo, this church

don't appreciate me.

Whoa! Am I talking about ex-quantum company? No, I'm not.

I'm not.

I'm not talking about ex-KK. Yeah?

Maybe it's another church. Another church plant.

I don't know.

I don't know.

Yeah? But do you know that pastors are also humans?

The bosses in this house, please say amen. You do

not have the capacity to go and thank every single

one of your employees. Does that mean you don't care

about them? But you try your best. You try your best. Bosses,

please do not use this as an excuse to not

appreciate your employees.

You have to as well. Do your best in every

area of your life.

Amen. Give your best in every area of your life.

First point, growth is biblical. Amen. Growth is biblical. Let's study.

Where does it come from? When we say that growth

is from the Bible, where does it come from? Let

me give you a few thoughts. I think I have

a next picture. Do I have a next picture? Wow. Canva,

thank you Lord for Canva. What will we do without Canva?

That's a picture of a tree. We do not say,

we do not say that a plant that has stopped growing, oh,

just because the plant has stopped growing is resting. Do

we say that? No. A plant that isn't growing is

not resting. Yeah? Something is wrong. Something is wrong. And

we can see it from the colour of the leaves.

We can see that a tree that is so healthy,

so big, but because there's a patch of yellow leaves,

we know that something is wrong. Perhaps the roots are

not going deep enough to get the water source. We

know that something is wrong. There are signs. Whenever someone

here is unwell, you have symptoms, right? You know, I

just recovered from COVID. I don't know whether the voice

still sounds like there's something stuck in the throat, but

I don't know. I just recovered from COVID, but even

before I tested positive for COVID, I knew already there's

something wrong. Why? Because there's pains in the body that

I have never experienced.

I don't know.

Body ache, this, that, some weird flu cough. I don't know.

There's something. You will feel there's something off in your body.

And when you notice that, you know there's something wrong,

what do you do? You go to the doctors. Let's

be practical here. We go to the doctors. A plant

that has stopped growing altogether isn't pausing. It's not pausing.

It's not saying, I want to take a break from growing. No,

it's actually signalling that something is wrong. And when you

experience that feeling in your heart, you got to ask

yourself that question because if you wait until it's too late,

how many of you here have been in a place

where you wake up in the morning and you feel

there's some soreness in your throat and all you have

to do is get up on your butt, go to

the water dispenser and get some water, drink that water

down and the next day you're going to be okay.

But how many of you here have been like me before?

Lazy to get off your butt, continue to sleep, next

day sore throat come.

Please don't say amen.

Because it's such a very difficult task to get up

from bed, right? Just to go and get water. But

do it, do it. It will help you in the

long run. But it's a sign, it's a sign that

something is wrong. Growth was built into creation itself. Can

I have the next slide? I'm going to give you

five sub-points that all of us can learn from in

this main point that growth is biblical. So first point

is that growth was built into creation itself. Genesis 1,

28 says that then God blessed them and God said

to them, be fruitful and multiply.

Fill the earth and subdue it.

This was the very first instruction that God Himself gave

to humanity. So is growth biblical? It is. It is.

Sometimes we say, don't look at numbers, but God looks

at numbers. Numbers signifies the fruit. If you do not

grow and you don't bear fruit, there's something wrong with you.

You can't just say that, I'm a Christian, I try

my best.

I tell you what, friends, I am a firm believer.

If you try your best and if it's out of faith,

there will be a fruit. There will be a fruit.

there will be a follower. There will be someone who

follows after you as you follow after Christ. There will

be someone. It's impossible. It's not part of God's design

that if you do your best and you leave the

rest to God, there will not be a fruit. There

will because this is something that is designed by Him.

It's an instruction to all of us to be fruitful

and multiply. He will not have given us this instruction

if it's not possible. Okay? He will not have given

us this instruction if it's not possible. Before sin, before

the fall, before anything went wrong, multiplication and increase was

already part of what was meant to be under God's blessing.

Second point, sub-point is that growth is at the centre

of God's covenant promises. It's at the very centre. Genesis

12 says, I will make you a great nation. I

will bless you and make your name great. Hallelujah. Praise

the Lord. Speaking to Abraham, yeah? He will make him

a great nation. Another verse will say that you look

at the sky, you see the number of stars, that

will be your descendants. That is growth. Amen? He's at

the center of his covenant that he has made with men.

It's a promise that he has made with our fathers, right? Abraham, Isaac, Jacob,

all of them, they have grown their respective communities.

And out of that, we get the fruit of today.

Amen? All of us. Praise the Lord. We are the

descendants of our forefathers that have came before us. He's

not merely a sustaining God because some of us look

to Him as a God who sustains. But do you

want to hear something? He's the God of multiplication as well.

He does not just keep you status quo because many

of us like to live life status quo. If there's

no problem, there's no need to do anything. Just live

our lives. There was once in my life, I also

felt that way. Why even take up, why even take

up pastorship? Why? You think it's something that I desire?

No.

I believe it's a calling. It's a calling that has

been given to us. Everyone here will have a moment

in your life that you are challenged to do something

that's out of your comfort zone. And when you take

that challenge up, you will see His promises which are

yes and amen. Amen? You will see His promises which

are yes and amen. He is not merely a sustaining God.

He is a multiplying God. Amen? Growth is how Jesus

described His own kingdom. This is the third sub-point, right?

Why it's biblical. Growth is how Jesus described His own kingdom.

Matthew 13, 31-32 says, The kingdom of heaven is like

a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in

his field, which indeed the least of all seeds. Do

you know that? Mustard seeds are the least of all seeds.

Very small, yeah? But when it has grown, it is

greater than the herbs and becomes a tree. It's a

great tree. A small little seed can become such a

big tree. That's part of God's design. Amen?

But what does the man need to do?

The man just has to take it, sow it into

his field, water it, and at the end of the day,

by the grace of God, it grows into a tree.

A wonderful tree. This is how Jesus described His kingdom.

So do you think there will be gardening in heaven?

I believe so. Right? Because this is how Jesus described

His kingdom. His kingdom is going to be like gardening.

You think that you don't have to get your hands

dirty anymore in heaven? No, you got to still plough

the ground, put the seed in, reap the harvest of

the fruit of your labour. Praise the Lord. Jesus didn't

describe His kingdom as something that arise fully formed.

Some of us think that.

Heaven, when you enter into heaven, the pearly gates of

heaven and you go like, fully formed, everything is nice already,

your house prepared for you. Yeah, yeah, that one I

think I believe so. But I think the house prepared

for you one, it will be there. But the surrounding all,

empty plot. Empty plot.

Because he didn't describe his kingdom to be fully formed.

No. He described his kingdom in this way. That you

still have to take something, you still have to work it,

Some of us think go to heaven, all we do

is just sing Jesus' name. Hallelujah, hallelujah.

That's all we do. All day, all day. That's all

we do. Come on, church.

We got to know that Jesus is a God who

is alive. Amen? And there's life. I pray some of

us here will begin to get to life. Grow up,

get up. Get up from your seats and do something

in your life. I tell you what, I used to

be a couch potato. But now I can't. I can't

sit still sometimes. Sometimes I love to sit still. But

there are days where I thought, I cannot, I cannot.

Ever since I started to get a little bit more active,

I started to think like, hey, I got to keep

that shape, you know? I can't let people overtake me

in pickleball skill. Cannot.

I need to keep training.

I need to keep training. I need to keep getting

better and better because everyone's working so hard. If I

slack off a little bit, I tell you, people are

going to catch me. That's the attitude. Anyways, going side

story here. Okay. Praise the Lord, it becomes a tree. Growth,

next point, is the evidence of a life that is

connected to Christ. You want to see if your life

is connected to the source? There's a core value by the,

I think it's prayer powered. You connect yourself to the source.

You want to see, you want to know whether you're

connected to the source, you check your growth. Because growth

is the evidence of a life that is connected to Christ.

John 15.5 says, I am the vine. Right?

He is the vine and you are the branches. We

are the branches.

He who abides in me and I in him bear much,

much fruit. For without me, you can do nothing. Without me,

you can do nothing. Now, I'm glad that Rachel brought

up about today's NECF reading. If just going a little

bit deeper, it's actually, the reading was about the pride

of self-sufficiency. And this verse was actually one of the

verses that was in the passage of the devotion, right?

And why do we feel that way? Why do we

think that way? If we turn to Deuteronomy, 8, 17

to 18.

This is not on the slide.

If you turn with me to Deuteronomy 8, 17 to 18,

if you have a Bible, or if you can, XTV

can help me to put that verse up. We can

read this together. Deuteronomy 8, 17 to 18. Are you

there yet? How many of you there? You all know

where Deuteronomy is? Because I had to find it. Alright,

praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. Okay. Then you say

in your heart, my power and the might of my

hand have gained me this wealth.

I want to pause there for a moment.

Sometimes we live this life here on this earth thinking

that the increase is because of the labour of our hands.

But we forget very often that the increase is actually

because of God. And when we start thinking that way,

that it's because of our own strength. See what the

verse says and the first word that it reminds us

is the word remember. Many of us here need to

come to a place of remembrance. Verse 18 says, And

you shall remember the Lord your God. For it is

He who gives you the power to get wealth. Some

of us here need to be reminded of that. Because

we work so hard and sometimes we get lost in

our work that we think that it's because of us.

And it's easy to come to a place of remembering,

but it is hard to come to a place of surrender.

Because when the Lord God Almighty, when the good Lord says...

That it is time for you to pack your bags

and do something else. We will say, God, anything but that.

Don't touch that in my life. I was in a

workshop with Graham and Brandon. Brandon is an influencer and

a classmate of my wife. Yeah, amazing, right? How small

this world is. And he said one thing that resonated

with me. He said that actually everything that he has,

he came to one realisation that everything that he has

comes from the Lord. And there was a place in

his life that he said to the Lord, he said,

everything you can touch but not social media. Don't touch

my content creation because that's my bread and butter. And

sometimes we can come to that place where we feel

that everything else you can touch, but that one thing

that I'm good at, you don't touch it. Please, God, please.

So it's easy to remember that God is the source

of your wealth, your health, your bread and butter, but

especially hard when He comes in and says, would you

give me that very thing that you are good at?

And you know that when the Lord asks for that thing,

that you are good at, that you are so unwilling

to surrender, do you know that He will take it

and He's actually planning to mould it into something greater,

something better?

Go and read Jeremiah. He is the potter and we

are His clay.

He will take us, He will form us and He

will make something even more majestic.

That we may not even know is possible.

Amen? But the first step is to surrender. But sometimes

we are unwilling to surrender. So everything that we do,

everything that we have, whenever there's an increase, it's an

evidence that our life is connected to Christ. Notice the order.

Can I go back to the slide? John 15, 5.

Notice the order. It says, abide first. Abide first. I

underline that. Did I underline? No, I didn't. Abide first

and then you will bear the fruit. You do not

bear the fruit and then you abide.

No.

You don't say, God, you give me the fruit first,

then I'll abide. No, it says, abide first. in Him

and Him in you. And then you'll see the fruit.

For without Him, we can do nothing. Growth is a

command of every believer. Every believer, it's a command for

every one of us and it's personal. 2 Peter 3.18 says,

but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord

and Saviour Jesus Christ. He did not say, Rachel, grow

in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour

Jesus Christ. He just said only Rachel. No. It's for

all of us.

It's a command.

So some of us say, you know what, tell you what,

let the leaders do it. I will sit down. And

as long as I'm blessed, I will not move. I

tell you what, it's a very dangerous thing to say.

It's a very dangerous thing to feel. Because when it's

a command given to all of us, we have to grow.

But I want to acknowledge that everyone here grows in

your own capacity.

Everyone here grows in your own season.

All I'm asking of each and everyone here is, when

you self-check your heart, check whether you are moving forwards.

Because that's very important.

Amen? Amen?

Praise the Lord.

I'm going to move on to my second point, which

is growth is God's work. So we studied a little

bit on why growth is biblical. But this is the

main bulk of my sharing for today.

In fact, it's the main bulk.

The third point is a very short This may be

my shortest message ever, but we will see how the

Holy Spirit leads. Because this really is very important to

me and it is something that I sense that the

Holy Spirit wants to speak and minister to some of us.

Growth is God's work, amen? We have established that. But

how do we faithfully partner with Him without burning out?

How do we faithfully... Partner with God in doing His

work for His kingdom without the danger of burning out.

Because burning out is a real thing. Can I preface

with that? Burning out is a real thing. And if

you're not careful, you'll not just burn out, you'll become charcoal. Charcoal. Black.

And I don't know how many of you like to

eat charcoal food. Those of you who like, please raise

your hand. Okay, never mind. I love it when the

clay pot chicken rice at the end, I love that part.

But my wife always tell me, cancerous, cancerous, cancerous. But

I tell you what, that's the best part. But that

one is not chaota, that one is caramelization, I call it.

Okay, praise the Lord.

But when it's really chaota, I tell you, you don't

like it one, no taste one. Bitter, tastes like charcoal.

How do we faithfully partner with God without burning out?

So we have established that God is the primary cause

of growth.

Amen?

We do not add to the church.

He does. We have established that. But that doesn't mean

we sit back. Again, we prepare the soil. He brings

the harvest. Mark 4, 26-28 says, The kingdom of God

is as if a man should scatter seed on the

ground and should sleep by night and rise by day

and the seed should sprout and grow. He himself does

not know how for the earth yields crops by itself.

First the blade, then the head and then after that

a full grain in the head. Now, if you are

just lost already after reading that verse, I'll tell you

a story. You know, when I was younger, a small kid,

I used to have this experiment of a bottle and

cotton bud. And my teacher would give us bean sprouts.

Punya beans. Tau geh. CG's favourite, tau geh. Sorry, I

cannot grow into the fat tau geh that CG likes.

If you want to know where, go and ask him.

He loves tau geh. For his birthday, buy him taugeh.

He will love it. He will love it.

One plate of taugeh. He gives me a thumbs up.

One plate of taugeh.

But I still put that seed into that little cotton bud.

And I tell you what, I will be so excited

because I'm this little boy. I'm so excited. And then

the next morning, I wake up and see, how come

it didn't grow? And then other friends all got little

roots coming out. I'm like looking at it and I cry.

My taugeh now sprout. Why your taugeh sprout?

What happened to my taugeh?

And then my mummy will tell me, Allah, you didn't

water the... I said, I didn't water. I thought magically poop.

So I thought I'm going to water it with my tears,

but it doesn't work that way. But the kingdom of

God is as if a man should scatter seed on

the ground. But I want you to notice this. It

says that you should sleep by night and rise by day.

And miraculously, the seed will sprout and grow. The seed

will sprout and grow. The farmer has real work to do.

Someone say amen. You got to put that seed into

that cotton bud. You got to put that cotton bud

and it has to be wet. You got to put

that half bottle that you stole from your parents and

put it into the sun. You have to. Because if

you don't do that, there won't be any photosynthesis. There

won't be a photosynthesis. Yeah? For it to be able

to grow. You need the photosynthesis. Yeah? You need that.

You need that. But the actual growth happens in the

place where he does not know how.

You see that in the verse? He himself does.

Not know how. So that means, friends and family, that

if you put in the work, I also don't know

how in the world I'm standing here preaching the Word

of God to you.

I don't know. It just happened overnight.

Did it? It's by the grace of God, right? Amen?

Some of us, there are things that in our lives

we can't explain.

Why in the world, someone who has such a dark

past or going through a dark past now, why suddenly

out of nowhere we can reconcile?

Why?

We also don't know how. We also don't know how

that growth come. But what we know is that we

put in the work. What we know is that not

by might, not by strength, but by the Holy Spirit,

we give the forgiveness. What we know is we put

in the part that we don't actually know how, but

the part that we actually don't know how it will come,

it comes. Because we put in the work. Show me

your work and I'll show you your faith. James. James.

That is our part to play. It's not easy work.

It's hard work.

Do you think it's very easy to till the ground?

Take the jangkol that looks like.

A fork and scrape the ground?

Do you think it's easy? No, it's hard work. Sometimes

you jangkol the ground, you hit a stone. Allah, how?

Leave the stone there? No! You have to take that

stone and get rid of it.

And sometimes in your life, you will hit a stone

as well. You hit a stone as well.

There are times when you prepare the ground and the

preparation is harder than the actual sewing.

And sometimes we give up at the preparation.

Because it's hard work. It's hard work. But you know

the beauty in all of that is that when you

do that hard work, there will come a point in

your life you suddenly, eh?

Why suddenly Ezra 200cm already?

Why suddenly? Out of nowhere.

But did you think that Ezra would get to his

place if he.

Did not put in the work of actually eating properly,

being healthy in his life? He looks so good now, right?

Praise the Lord. Other muscle, smile looking good, hair looking nice.

You ask Earlene and Andrew, they will say, I don't know,

suddenly overnight he showed up. Yeah, that is the suddenly.

know the times in which He will return. But until

that time comes, we must put in the work. We

must show our faith in Christ Jesus. Amen. Amen. 1

Corinthians 3, 6-7.

Oh my gosh.

It says that, I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave

the increase. So then, neither he who plants is anything,

nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase. Now,

in the church in Corinth, in this, they were going

through such a turmoil.

Sometimes we read this verse, we don't know the context,

the background.

The background is that they began to pick sides. Team Rachel,

team Daniel. Next quarter come morning, got team Rachel, got

team Daniel. In fact, I think it's 10% team Daniel,

19% team Rachel. Huh?

Yeah, a.

FYI, example. So I'm just saying the Corinth church at

that time, they were doing that. Who is the greater minister?

Who preaches with more elegance?

Who prays more? Who speaks Bahasa?

Who is the one that speaks with more elegance? And

the church in Corinth, they were divided. So divided to

the point where they start taking sides. Oh, if Paul

says that, listen. If it's Apollos, I don't care. What

he said is not my problem. That was what the

church in Corinth was going through. And Paul had to

come out and say this, that he planted, Apollos watered,

but God who gave the increase, I think some of

us forget that sometimes. There's no team Daniel, no team Rachel,

there's only team God. Amen? There's only team God. And

men are going to fail you. Daniel is going to

fail you, definitely. 100% he will fail you. He will

forget to smile at you. Although recently I found out

that smiling is actually a currency, you know. Yeah, it's

a currency. Somehow you smile, you get more favour. Just

smile lah. Not hard to smile. Just smile. It's also

a conversation starter. Yeah? Yeah?

Yeah, don't, it's okay. But smiling is very good, you know.

Joy, right? It's really, what's that word? It helps your soul.

It's food for the soul, yeah? Amen? Smile a little

bit more, church. Smile, come on. Show me your teeth.

Praise the Lord. My dad will look at me and say,

I ain't no thief lah, bogey. Then I won't show

you my teeth. You know, funny thing, the only thing

I have left of my dad is his dentures. Okay, anyways.

A bit, a bit. Yeah, seriously. The only thing I

have left of my dad is his thatchers and his

hip replacement, okay? That's all I have left of my dad.

Look at this, that's what I love. Look at that.

Until now, so I can see y'all, then just praise

the Lord. But sometimes we forget that. We forget that

God is the one who gives the increase. It's not,

it doesn't matter who planted, but someone has to plant, amen?

It doesn't matter who watered, but someone has to water.

So as long as someone does the job, God will

bring the increase.

Without Him, we can do nothing.

Amen?

Without Him, we can do nothing. Both method, Paul, Apollos,

they method.

But the one who actually makes the thing grow is

not Paul, is not Apollos, it is God. In other words,

stop ranking the servants of God. Stop taking sides of

home leaders. Oh, that home's better, that home's better, this

home better. I tell you what, the Church of God

will grow, will prosper as long as we play our part. Now,

is that to say that it is a sin to

change homes?

Is it a sin to change jobs?

No, no. As long as the Lord leads you and

as long as it's not our place of resentment because

the Word of God also tells us to settle our

resentment before we give unto the Lord. Not Daniel's words, yeah?

Maybe portrayed in a very drastic and energetic way. But

do you think that Jesus, when if He's here, You

think He will speak to us like as if it

doesn't matter. No, this is words that comes from His heart.

This was accounts of His life. The disciples saw and

they decided to account. It means they actually see it

in action. It's not just words that were spoken. It's

words that has life. Amen?

Praise the Lord. I'm going to share with you a story.

And this story came from.

Three days ago when the NECF devotion was about the

humble will enjoy rest.

I follow the NECF.

I actually do a small fast and I follow the

devotion and I miss about three days so far, but

it's been a blessing to just follow because there was

one day that I woke up so tired.

You know, yesterday I, it was yesterday, Friday?

When?

I forgot the days. Today's Sunday.

Okay. On Friday, I had the opportunity to visit my

alma mater, SMK Subang Utama, I was invited to give

a speech about self-value, self-respect dalam bahasa Malaysia. Berbahasa dalam,

bukan berkotbah. Bukan berkotbah. So I'm practicing how to berkotbah

in bahasa Malaysia. But beri ceramah, ceramah itu lain. All

my Chinese, Malay, all come out. Walai bagaimanapun, semedikiana, demikiannya,

Today morning, my wife tested me Jalo Gemilang song. I

sing everything wrong. Burung nelayan dan juga petani.

38 to 41.

This is where my slides come back.

Luke 10, 38 to 41. It's a tale of two sisters.

How many of you familiar with this story? You know,

the hardest thing to preach to Christians is that you

all in your heart will say, I already heard this story.

So it's actually very hard. It's actually a very hard

thing to preach.

Because in your heart, you say, Pastor, why are you

bringing this up?

I already know. I already know. I already know. By

the way, that's how the pastors responded. To a senior

pastor who was actually sharing this. So I went to

a NECF gathering. Sorry, a Love Subang Pastors Gathering. And

in that Love Subang Pastors Gathering, the chair of the

Love Subang Pastors, Bayat Pastors, shared this devotion. And he

shared the tale of two sisters.

And I just want to explore that with all of

us today.

Is that okay? So this is the story of Mary

and Martha. Let's read the passage of scriptures that defines

or talks about this story. Can I have XTV help

me with the verses? I don't think I put it up.

Luke 10, 38 to 41. So turn your Bibles. Just

practice your turning a little bit. Are you there?

Luke 10, 38.

Now it happened, as they went, that he entered a

certain village, a certain woman named Marta.

Any Martas here? It's a good name. Marta welcomed him

into her house.

Next verse. And she had a sister. And her sister's

name was Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet and

heard His word. Next verse.

Verse 40.

But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached

Him and said, Lord, do you not care that my

sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore, tell her

to help me. Verse 41. And Jesus answered and said

to her, Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about

many things. But one thing is needed and Mary has

chosen that good part which will not be taken away

from her. God bless the reading of His word. This

is all we heard about Mary and Martha, by the way.

There's no other verse that comes after this that tells

us Mary's perspective. No, we just know that Mary did

a good thing. And that's the right thing. The right

thing that in the perspective of Jesus, this is what

He knows is good for Mary. Now, imagine with me

being Martha. Who welcomed Jesus into the house? Just imagine

for a moment. That means.

She was the one who welcomed him in.

I think that's already some work that she done, right?

She welcomed, you know. What is Mary doing while Martha welcoming?

What's Mary doing?

We have no idea. Please do not create your own story, okay?

She's just not at the door. I don't know what

she's doing. So that perspective creates a very, very big picture.

Can I bring a perspective to you? Mary could be

cutting onions.

Think about it.

Mary could be preparing food. Because it did not say

that Mary, and Mary was slacking on the couch like

a potato. No, it did not say that. It just says, Martha, welcome.

But sometimes our minds go far and we think that

just because that someone is not there, just because you

do not know, he's lazy, he's slacking, he's not doing anything.

Sometimes that creeps into our minds as well. Because we

are the ones who open the door. We open the

door early in the morning and say, hey, call time 7am.

I'm here opening up. No one is here. Where is Albert? Mine, mine, mine.

Or Albert may open up and say, where is Pastor Dan?

This one, Pastor, but I tell you what, useless. Mine, mine.

Because when we do things and we don't do things

out of the joy of the Lord, we start to

get tired.

Remember, what we are trying to talk is.

We are trying to partner with God, but how do

we do it without burning out?

Remember the main point here.

Yeah? So imagine Albert has been doing this for years

and years and years, and he's at the door, he's

opening up, and he's.

Like, nobody is here. Why I come at 7 o'clock?

I already can memorise all the lyrics by heart already.

Where is Pastor Dan? Or Pastor Dan may talk about Albert.

But little did I know that Albert went all the

way to Jinjarom to pick up someone who really wants

to come to church. And it was a last minute

thing and that person just couldn't come. Called Albert at 6.30

and Albert said, I tell you.

What, I'm going to be late. But I'm going to go.

Well, maybe the right thing to do was for Albert

to call me and say that, hey, I'll be late.

But Come on, I think friends, friends, listen up, listen up.

I have also discovered something lately. That benefit of doubt

is very important. Stop trying to think that people are

against us. No. Give people the benefit of doubt first

before jumping to a conclusion that I tell you what, Albert, sure,

the one don't like me, that's why he's not here. No,

but he's doing something for the Lord. But when we

are retired, we will build this thing called resentment. So

Martha welcomed Jesus. Jesus came in and Martha went do what?

From the door to the kitchen. Yeah?

From the door to the kitchen. Something happened.

Because she was at the kitchen, she was preparing a

meal for Jesus and Mary was just sitting at the

feet of Jesus, hearing what Jesus had to say, gleaning

from Him. And when Martha came up, out, look at

what Martha said.

He said, Lord, do you not care? Now Martha, who

is Martha upset at here?

Mary? Was she upset at Mary? Mary? Now, note the

phrasing of the sentence. The first thing that was said is, Jesus, Lord,

do you not care? So again, I ask this question,

who was she upset at more? Because if Mary was

the problem, she would go to Mary, hey, get up

and help me. But she went to Jesus. Sometimes, The

people that we are upset with. The Lord that we

are supposed to be serving. We serve, we do the

work so much. The work of the Lord that we

forget the God of the work. We forget the God

of the work, you know. We serve so hard. We

work so hard.

But we forget that.

Actually it is God. He is sitting right there. You

know when God wants something, when Jesus wants something, He

will ask. He will say, give me something to drink.

And when He didn't ask you to do something, you

don't have to do it. Because sometimes we like to

create instructions of our Lord Jesus Christ. But God is

a God that is very clear. If He wants you

to go, He will ask you to go to Nineveh.

He will ask you to go.

Yeah?

He will be very clear with His words. And at

the same time, if he has spoken once out of

five years later and he hasn't spoken, it's not that

he's quiet.

It's that he has not changed.

Amen? The problem with Christians nowadays, and I refer to

myself the most here, is we tend to create something

out of nothing. That's where God is calling me to.

Are you sure? Are you sure that's where God is

calling you to?

The man that was shot in the cheek, had a

hole in his cheek, until today, is he still around?

Yeah, yeah, praise the Lord.

Yeah, he was serving. Do you know that until today,

he's still driving the bus around getting children?

He's still in kids' ministry, you know.

How old is he already? Shot for Christ. And I

think it was one of his quotes that said that

as long as God is calling him to do it,

he will continue to do it. It won't change. But

when God instructs you, then you move, then you change

the course. But hear His voice and obey it. Amen?

Hear His voice and obey it. So I don't know.

I don't know what was Martha doing, trying to impress Jesus.

Straight away, you know, welcome Him home straight away.

Okay, bye-bye.

Now I'm going to the kitchen. Jesus is like, at

least sit down with me. So how do we not

burn out? when we do the work of the Lord,

is the answer to that. I'm going to give you

the answer. The answer is a very simple answer that

some of.

Us may miss. It's just to spend time with Him.

Amen? Spend time with Him. He must be in the

picture in everything that you do. When you do slides, Jesus.

When the slide's wrong, Jesus. I'm doing this with you.

For you are the source of my strength. You are

my joy. I remember you, Jesus. This is why I'm

serving the Lord. When I sing at the top of

my voice and someone comes to me after the service

and say, why you sound like a frog? I'm doing

it for you, Lord.

Because no one else would do it. I'm here, use me.

Jesus, I love you. When I stack the chairs, who

am I doing it for? When I do espresso, who

am I doing it for? Amen? When I go do

house visitation, even though it's something that I don't want

to go and do, who am I doing it for?

When I serve the Lord and I get no recognition,

who am I doing it for? He must be in

the presence. He must be in your presence. That's what

Mary did. She was in the vicinity of Jesus. She

was in the vicinity of Jesus. The woman with the

issue of blood touched the garment. And the moment she

touched the garment, power went out of Jesus' body. And

Jesus turned around and said, who touched me? You think

Jesus did not know who touched him? Disciples said, hey, hello,

this place so many people. Everybody is touching you there.

Everybody is touching you. But Jesus himself knew that that

touch came from a woman that was desperate for him. Amen.

You can be in the presence of God, but that

doesn't mean that you are there. Martha was in the

presence of God. But she was not present. She was

doing the work of God. Amen.

Is it wrong to be Martha?

No, it's not.

We will get to that soon.

Yeah.

We were talking about how do we not burn out.

Because why did Martha come to Jesus and the first

thing that she said is, Lord, do you not care?

Do you know that the Lord Jesus Christ in that

season was heading to the cross for that very two sisters?

Would you go to the cross for someone that you

do not care for? He cares. He cares for us.

But sometimes we forget that just because we felt like

we are not seen.

Just because we felt like we are not heard. Then

we get hurt.

We get hurt not because of Sister Mary. By the way,

this one is not Mother Mary. Different.

Different Mary.

We get hurt because our fellow compatriots, our fellow partners

that we have been partnering, forget our birthday.

Now does that give us the right to forget your birthdays?

No.

Again, everything do unto the Lord. Give your best. But

we are all men.

We work. Make mistakes. You know, I'm very bad with birthdays.

I'm actually very bad. I thank the Lord for a

good wife. Because he who finds a good wife, finds her. Amen.

Praise the Lord.

She actually helps me remember all the birthdays. Got one

calendar named birthdays. That's how I actually remember. Because of Rochelle.

That doesn't mean I'm evil. Okay?

I'd forget your birthday doesn't mean I'm evil.

Sorry. Sorry. There are many names here to remember. There

are many birthdays to remember. My memory is just not

catered for that.

I may forget. I may forget your anniversary. God is good.

And His mercies are new.

Every morning. Amen.

We're going to close very soon. We're going to close

very soon. But we're going to close with this.

Yeah.

So she went, Martha went to Jesus and said, do

you not care? And notice this.

Jesus said that she was distracted with so much serving.

That means she lost her sense of purpose.

Why is she actually cutting the onions for? Why is

she actually cutting the garlic for? Why is she preparing

a meal for Christ? She lost her purpose. She just

did it out of her place of clockwork. Sometimes when

we as Christians serve the Lord, and it's not just

in church we serve Him. We serve Him in our marketplaces.

We have our little prayer groups. We fast without knowing

what we are fasting for. We start praying in our

little prayer groups just because it's a clockwork and not

because we really want God to move in our lives.

And we forget that. We forget that.

This is a reminder. And when we forget the source,

we will lose connection to the source and that's where

we will start to get tired.

That's where we will start to burn out. So again,

everything we do, we do unto the... Amen?

Be like Mary.

Find rest in your souls.

The meal that Martha was preparing for Jesus quietly became

more important to her than simply being with Jesus. That

is something that is very dangerous. Another hero of the Bible, Elijah.

How many of you know who's Elijah? Can't wait for

Elijah to come back.

But Elijah, the strongest steel brick.

I don't know how many of you know this story.

The same Elijah that called down fire from heaven, this

man of God, so powerful, so known for his faith,

walked with God. 1 Kings 19, 4-7 said, I want

to die.

I want to die.

Yeah? It is enough now, Lord.

Take my life.

For I am no better than my father's. So he

lay down and slept under a juniper tree. And suddenly

an angel touched him and said to him, Arise and eat.

And the angel of the Lord came back the second

time and touched him again and said, Arise and eat

because the journey is too great for you. Notice that

God's response to his burnt-out prophet. Yeah? He doesn't rebuke

Elijah for being weak. He doesn't tell him to push

through and trust harder. I'm guilty of that. Sometimes I'll

tell my leaders, you know, getting tired, just trust God

a little bit more.

Just push a little bit more. Just go a little

bit deeper.

No, this wasn't his response, so I'm also learning. God's

response to Elijah was, He just let him sleep. Just sleep.

Sometimes that's what we need, you know. Just to rest

in the Lord.

Amen? Just to rest in the Lord. I look at

the word rest with a silent E. There's actually an

E that is missing in the word rest. Because rest,

actually the full word for rest is the word reset.

The missing E, the silent E, to me, again, I'm

not English, not dictionary, but to me, my interpretation. Whenever

I look at the word rest, I see the word reset.

But the E is missing, it's silent because it represents Emmanuel.

It represents God with us. That means when we rest,

we have to rest in the presence of God. Amen?

And we do not just rest to die.

No. We rest, in other words, to reset. in order

to go again. Amen? In order to go again. I

don't know how many of you here have heard this phrase,

a still small voice.

Do you know where it came from? It came from Elijah.

It came from this.

Passage of Scripture.

If you go down a little bit further, you will

see that the Lord allowed Elijah in his weariness to rest, sleep, arise, eat,

sleep again, arise and then go along his journey and

it's only then and there he spoke. So some of

us here, maybe you have been not getting what God

is wanting for your life. It is because you are

not being a Mary.

You're not sitting at the feet of Jesus. You're not

hearing Him enough.

You're just so busy being Martha and you're missing the point.

You're missing what God has in store for you. Because

imagine if Elijah did not rest. He came from a

place that he just said, I just want to die.

But the Lord did not rebuke him. The Lord allowed

him to rest. And in that rest, much later, the

Lord spoke to him in a still, small voice.

Praise the Lord. God is good, amen? God is good.

He's a merciful God. He's a merciful God.

There are many more instances in the Bible that Jesus

himself told his disciples to just rest, to just rest.

Mark 6.31 says, come aside by yourself to a deserted

place and rest a while. Yeah, so he's a God

of miracles, a God of wonders, but he's also a

God of rest. He himself said, God, the Father, when

He created this earth, He designated a time of Sabbath.

And it was so important that He told as an

instruction much later that you have to observe the Sabbath. Amen?

Rest is so important to the Lord. Now, does that

mean we do nothing? No. Again, I would like to

remind us, it did not say that Mary sat at

the feet of Jesus and did nothing. No. No.

I believe that Mary also got up and do much

more later on.

Amen?

Praise the Lord.

As we know the story of Mary and Martha, I

pray that some of us here will be encouraged by that. Right?

Martha was not a bad human being.

No.

Jesus loved her too.

Amen?

Jesus cared for her too.

The last point that I have for us before we

close is what to do when growth stops. What to

do when growth stops? When growth stops, we got to

check our heart. I want to encourage us to not

normalise this. You do not look at a kid who

has stopped growing in his maturity and say that that's

a normal thing.

Right?

When your kid, for three, four years, I'm a late

walker by the way. I don't know how many of

you know that. By two years old, I haven't known

how to walk yet. You ask my mum, Late walker,

she called me.

Late walker. Two and a half was my first steps.

Very bad.

I think my parents thought I was, there's something wrong

with my legs or something. Couldn't walk, everything crawling everywhere

like a worm. You do not look at that child

and say that, ah, it's normal.

No, you actually seek help, right?

Medical help.

Maybe, you know, some.

Specialists that may be able to explain the situation. Maybe

some supplements that need to be fed to me as

a child. Again, I don't know why in the world

they fed me. Because I know two and a half

I was walking and running a day. Half a year

I was walking and running. But we do not normalise

the lack of growth. We don't do that. So when

it happens to us as Christians, can we not normalise it?

Because some of us like to say that.

I'm in a season of break. I want to take

a break.

I've heard this many times and I myself have said

this statement many times.

Pastor, can I take a break? Imagine if Jesus went

to God and said, God, can I take a break?

One year only, ma.

One year sabbatical. Can I take a one year sabbatical

from the cross? This race is the race that He endured.

Amen? This race is also a race that we have

to endure.

Amen? as believers, as followers of Jesus Christ, we have

to always go forward. I want to again preface that

everybody here grows in your own capacity, in your own way,

in your own speed. But the only thing I want

to encourage us that make sure you are taking one

step in front of another. Please, by the grace of God,

if you are ghost stunning, please engage the clutch. Put

it into gear one again and go forwards. Amen?

Amen?

As long as you're moving forward, do not explain. I

want to catch myself and not explain as well. Do

not explain, oh, it's normal lah, it's okay lah. Because

I tell you what, the moment you take that one

year break, it's easy to take the second year break,

third year break, fourth year break, and not before long,

you're gone.

It's easy to miss one Sunday.

You know, missing Sunday, right, is never the problem.

It is what happens after that.

So as long as you check your heart, as long

as you check your heart and.

If you know that in your heart, okay, this is

a one-off.

And again, when you go for that rest, as long

as Jesus is in the picture, it's going to be okay. Amen?

That's a signal to pay attention to.

Yeah?

Pay attention to. Go back to basics. This is where

we revisit the core values.

Ask ourselves honestly whether we have drifted from the things

that we have to do.

To create the right condition.

Amen? The brief honest check, have we all became matas?

Do I have the next slide? What's the next slide? Busy, serving, worried, trouble,

activity without communion? Ask ourselves. These are questions that we ask.

If we stop growing, this is what we have to

ask ourselves. Have we drifted from sitting at His feet

and started to try to manufacture growth for ourselves? Have

we started doing that? Do I feel a quiet resentment

that I haven't named? A quiet resentment. A quiet sense

of pride that is in your heart that you have

not named towards people that you serve alongside. Because I

tell you what, you can't do this without one another.

So if there's something like that, can we come and clarify?

Can we come and reconcile and at least come to

an agreement or even agree to disagree?

That's what happened to the tall.

Right?

Agree to disagree.

And move forwards. Build the kingdom of God. You build

that side, I build this side, we end up in heaven.

Praise the Lord. God is good. Yeah? Towards people that

you serve alongside or don't. You feel that they are

not pulling their weight. Oh. This person, here so long already,

still haven't served the Lord. I tell you what, if

you have that thought in your mind, please check your

own heart. Because why are you saying that about someone

when that someone is growing in his or her own capacity?

Jesus did not, remember, Jesus did not approach Martha. It

was Martha that approached Jesus. Jesus already knew that Martha

was distracted. That was what the verse says. But He

did not go and say, Martha, why are you distracted? No.

He waited until Martha came to Him and He gave

an answer.

So some of us here need to understand that everyone

here is in your own season and the Lord will

deal with us accordingly. Amen?

He will deal with me accordingly. He will deal with

Albert accordingly. He will deal with Rachel. He will deal

with Rachel accordingly.

But at the end of the day, it is Him

who brings the increase. Amen? Not us. Stop trying to

manufacture growth for others. Yeah, meh, grow up lah. You

stop trying to do that. That's wrong. Don't do that.

In fact, check your own heart.

Amen?

Check our own heart.

Even if we are honest like Martha was towards God Himself, Lord,

do you not care?

As the task quietly replaced the person, this is the

hard check.
