December 10 - Romans 5:1

In the during the Christmas season, we are remembering that Jesus came to die for us, that he came to save us from our sin, and it's supposed to be a time that we get to rejoice, that we get to remember all that God's done, but oftentimes we lose sight of that between the holiday shopping, the dinner preparation, all the different parties, we start to feel all the different pressures that come along with the season. And in a moment, a time of peace turns into a feeling of unrest. And it is in the unrest in our lives that we need to be reminded that our peace comes from knowing God as our savior. In Romans chapter 5, Paul writes these words, therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord, Jesus Christ. Paul reminded his original audience that they have been justified before God, that when God sees them, he no longer sees them as sinners, but he sees them as free because of Jesus. And now because of this justification, they have peace with God. They are at peace with God, and they have a feeling of safety, not just in their standing with God, but throughout all of life. They feel safe, they feel secure. I don't know what you may be going through, but maybe you feel bogged down by the weight of this holiday season. I just want to encourage you that there is peace, that God gives us peace when we are trusting in him. And when we trust in him, the peace that we have from God turns into internal peace that we can have, no matter our circumstances, no matter what maybe going on. So I hope this advent season that we can all rest in the peace that we have because we've been made right with God.
