  1. It's time for the Champions in Christ broadcast

  2. with Rhonda Harrison on 101 .7 BFM. Good morning

  3. and welcome to Champions in Christ. We're so

  4. happy you joined us this morning. Today we're

  5. going to look into the Word of God and we're

  6. going to talk about serving Him. You know it's

  7. important that we serve God and serve others

  8. and we do serve Him also by serving others. You

  9. know God will speak to you what your purpose

  10. in life is. Some people feel like they don't

  11. have a purpose, but everybody has a purpose.

  12. God created us with a purpose. He knew you and

  13. I before we were in our mother's womb. That's

  14. the Word of God. and he knew what he had purposed

  15. in us. So that's why there's so many different

  16. callings in life and doesn't matter if you are

  17. in the business world, if you are in the trade

  18. world, if you are in the art world, if you're

  19. in music, God has a purpose and a calling. And

  20. many times, and if you're in the government,

  21. God has a purpose and a calling for you. And

  22. he has exactly, he knows exactly what you need

  23. when you need it. And so we're going to take

  24. a look at someone in the Bible. If you'll go

  25. with me to 1 Kings chapter 3. In First Kings,

    1 Kings 3 chapter mention

  26. where we pick up the story is King David had

  27. died and King Solomon, his son, would be the

  28. one to take over. Now King Solomon was only around

  29. 20 years old at the time and it says that in

  30. verse 1, and Solomon made an affinity with Pharaoh,

  31. the king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter

  32. and brought her to the city of David until where

  33. he made an end of a of the building of his house

  34. and the house of the Lord and the wall of Jerusalem

  35. round about because Solomon had been working

  36. on those things. Verse two, only the people sacrifice.

  37. high places because there was no house built

  38. in the name of the Lord until those days this

  39. was the actual first house built in the name

  40. of the Lord and Solomon verse 3 loved the Lord

  41. walking in the statutes of David or other words

  42. following the same heart of his dad towards God

  43. only he sacrificed burnt incense in the high

  44. places and the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice

  45. there for it was a great high place and a thousand

  46. burnt offerings did he offer on that altar. Wow!

  47. You know, he loved God so much. He loved God.

  48. He was raised in the things of God. His dad taught

  49. about God, taught him about God and Gideon walked

  50. in the ways of God and it's a beautiful thing

  51. to the point where he offered a thousand sacrifices.

  52. You know back in the Old Testament that was a

  53. requirement. There were all kinds of offerings.

  54. There was peace offerings and sin offerings and

  55. it just goes on and on and on. And this was a

  56. way you showed your love and devotion for God.

  57. And nowadays of course we have a new covenant

  58. and because of the blood of Jesus there's no

  59. more need for any other sacrifice because He

  60. was the Lamb of God. He was the ultimate sacrifice.

  61. And so we're going to keep going and in verse

  62. five, in Gibeon, the Lord appeared unto Solomon

  63. in a dream by night and God said, ask me what

  64. I shall give you. You know, just like when your

  65. child pleases you and have been obedient and

  66. is loving on you, you just want to bless them.

  67. This was God's heart towards Solomon. Solomon

  68. being the new king, the Lord said to him in this

  69. dream, Solomon was sleeping, it was at night,

  70. and he had a dream, and God said, ask me what

  71. I should give you. And Solomon said, you have

  72. showed unto your servant, David, my father, great

  73. mercy, according as he walked before you in truth

  74. and in righteousness, in uprightness of heart

  75. with you, and you have kept him from... you have

  76. kept for him this great kindness that you have

  77. given him a son to sit on his throne as of today.

  78. And that was Solomon. He was saying, you've been

  79. so good to my dad and according, of course, as

  80. he walked in truth and righteousness and uprightness

  81. of heart and that you've even allowed his own

  82. son to sit on the throne. And he said, now, oh,

  83. Lord, my God, you have made me your servant king.

  84. instead of David my father, but I am young and

  85. I am not, I do not know how to go in and come

  86. out and your servant is in the midst of your

  87. people which you have chosen a great people that

  88. cannot be numbered or counted for the multitude."

  89. So he was over, this is king, this is a monarchy,

  90. he's over the whole kingdom and there's so many

  91. people you can't number them. and he goes on

  92. in verse 9 says give therefore your servant understanding

  93. heart to judge your people that i can discern

  94. between good and bad for who is able to judge

  95. this you such a great number of people and this

  96. this question i mean this request please the

  97. lord and solomon had asked And so the Lord said,

  98. because you've asked for this, wisdom and understanding,

  99. and you didn't ask for long life or riches, nor

  100. did you ask for the life of your enemies, but

  101. you've asked for understanding to discern judgment

  102. or understand justice. he said behold I have

  103. done according to what you've asked and I've

  104. given you a wise and understanding heart so there

  105. was none like you before you neither will be

  106. any like you come after you so Solomon he was

  107. giving Solomon more wisdom and understanding

  108. than any other king before him or any other king

  109. after him wow that's a big deal That's amazing.

  110. But he goes on to say, and verse 13, I have also

  111. given you that which you haven't asked, riches

  112. and honor. So there will be not any among the

  113. kings like you all your days. So he was the wealthiest

  114. king in riches and in honor. honor as well as

  115. wisdom and understanding but he gives a caveat

  116. he says if you will walk in my ways to keep my

  117. statutes and my commandments as your father David

  118. did then I will lengthen your days and so Solomon

  119. woke up and he thought oh it was a dream and

  120. he came to Jerusalem and stood before the Ark

  121. of the Covenant. The Ark of the Covenant was

  122. where the presence of God resided during this

  123. time. Now since Jesus, nowadays, since the time

  124. Jesus died and rose again, he sent the Holy Spirit.

  125. So when we believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and

  126. confess with our mouth he is Lord, then we receive

  127. the Holy Spirit. So the presence of God is not

  128. kept in the Ark of the Covenant any longer. There's

  129. no need for it. 15 and Solomon offered up burnt

  130. offerings and peace offerings and made a feast

  131. to all his servants. Then came their two women

  132. who were harlots unto the king and they stood

  133. before him. So they are standing before King

  134. Solomon and one woman said Lord I and this woman

  135. dwell in one house and I delivered a child with

  136. her in this house and it came to pass on the

  137. third day after I Delivered that child that this

  138. woman delivered also we were together and there

  139. was no stranger with us only the two of us in

  140. this house and This woman's child died in the

  141. night because she rolled on top of it. Oh that

  142. had to be just devastating. She rolled over on

  143. her baby and it died. And she rose at midnight

  144. and took my son beside me while I slept and laid

  145. it near her bosom and laid her dead child near

  146. mine. And when I rose in the morning to give

  147. my child sac or her breast to feed on, it was

  148. dead. And when I had considered it in the morning,

  149. behold it was not my son. which which lay next

  150. to me. The other woman said no but the living

  151. is my son and the dead son is yours and said

  152. no but the dead son is mine and the living so

  153. they were arguing over whose son this was that

  154. was still living and and they spoke this before

  155. the king and then the king said the one said

  156. this is my son that lives and that your son that

  157. died and the other said the same vice versa and

  158. the king said bring me a sword and they brought

  159. the sword before the king and the king said divide

  160. this living child in two give half to one half

  161. to the other now I want you to picture and put

  162. yourself in this place you're sitting there and

  163. you're arguing with another woman over whose

  164. child is dead now you got to understand they're

  165. both distraught at this point and the king comes

  166. in king solomon or he's standing there and he

  167. says hand me a sword i'm just going to cut this

  168. baby in half we're going to divide it in two

  169. and so be it and then all of a sudden spoke a

  170. woman whose child was living unto the king for

  171. her bowels or her heart so yearned for her son

  172. she said oh my lord give her the living child

  173. and don't slay it but the other one said let

  174. neither mine nor hers but divide it and the king

  175. said give her the living child and don't slay

  176. it she's the mother for sure because she was

  177. willing to give up the very thing she loved so

  178. it so that baby could live she was laying down

  179. her life with that child so that child could

  180. live and that's how the king knew that it was

  181. the right that she was the right mother because

  182. she had a heart for the child And all of Israel

  183. heard this judgment, what the king had judged,

  184. and they feared the king, for they saw that the

  185. wisdom of God was in him to do judgment." That's

  186. huge. You know, God spoke to Solomon in a dream,

  187. asked him, what do you want? And then he confirmed

  188. that word with signs following with what happened

  189. when he had to judge a situation right after

  190. that. So the same way, if God speaks to your

  191. heart something, He will prove it. He will confirm

  192. that word. If he's giving you an assignment and

  193. you're dilly -dallying, you're kind of going,

  194. well, was that God? Was it not God? Go back and

  195. check yourself and expect God to confirm that

  196. word. The same way he confirmed it with Solomon.

  197. God doesn't change. you know, but when we serve

  198. God with all our heart, you know, and if you

  199. haven't had God speak to you in a dream or a

  200. vision or hear his voice, if you'll just go to

  201. the word of God, many times the Holy Spirit will

  202. enlighten the word and bring us that mission

  203. from the word of God. If you're a business person,

  204. maybe you are to be a blessing to the kingdom

  205. of God. If you love God with all your heart,

  206. mind, soul, and strength, You might, God may

  207. want that business become a multi -million dollar

  208. business to give into the kingdom for the work

  209. of the ministry. Not everybody's called to be

  210. a minister as far as the fivefold ministry gifts,

  211. but callings are everywhere and every calling

  212. is important just like in your whole body. Every

  213. joint supplies, your toes important, your legs

  214. important, your knee, your hip. You couldn't

  215. function when one of those is out of whack, then

  216. that whole area is out of whack. So we want to

  217. be in the place God wants us to be, doing what

  218. he's called us to do, to be the part of the body

  219. to fulfill our function in the earth while we're

  220. here. The Bible says our life is but a vapor

  221. and it's over. So we want to be sure first of

  222. all as as king solomon started out love god with

  223. all your heart mind soul and strength that's

  224. the first commandment and then the second commandment

  225. is to love your neighbor as yourself because

  226. as you do that you are fulfilling god's purpose

  227. in the earth the same way in the old testament

  228. they had loads and loads and lines and lines

  229. and you can read it in the Old Testament of commandments,

  230. but in the New Testament it says all the commandments

  231. hang on these two, the two I just quoted you.

  232. Why? Because when you love God with all your

  233. heart, mind, soul, and strength, you aren't going

  234. to come against him. You aren't going to come

  235. against your neighbor, which is what all of the

  236. commandments are about in worshiping other gods.

  237. So let's continue. You know, the Bible says in

  238. 1 Corinthians 2 9, excuse me, but it is written,

  239. eye is not seen nor ear is heard, neither has

  240. entered into the heart of the man the things

  241. God has prepared for those that love him. You

  242. know, when we love God the way Solomon did, what

  243. did God offer him? You know, and Solomon's heart

  244. was so pure at that point before God that he

  245. asked for wisdom and understanding, and what

  246. did God say? I'm not only gonna give you that,

  247. I'm gonna give you riches and honor, and he just

  248. poured it onto him. The same way loving parents

  249. do to children, that they just wanna show their

  250. love, and when they ask for something, they usually

  251. pour out more than just that thing, because God's

  252. love is so great for you and for me. Now, he

  253. would like us to obey, he doesn't force us to,

  254. but if we do, there's always reward, there's

  255. always treasure. Now, what happens to Solomon?

  256. Let's turn to, we're going to jump forward to

  257. 1 Kings chapter 11. And Solomon begins to make

    1 Kings 11 chapter mention

  258. a turn. and you know at this point in chapter

  259. 12 you'll learn about how all the earth was seeking

  260. Solomon to hear his wisdom and what God had put

  261. in his heart and they brought garments and gold

  262. and spices and and he gathered up all the things

  263. and but what happened was by chapter 11 I want

  264. to read this to you it says but Solomon loved

  265. many strange women together with the daughter

  266. of Pharaoh the woman of the Moabites the Ammonites

  267. that Edomites the Zionians and the Hittites and

  268. of the nations concerning which the Lord had

  269. said unto the children of Israel you will not

  270. go into them nor will they come to you for surely

  271. they will turn your heart after their gods and

  272. Solomon cherished these in love. and he had 700

  273. wives, princes, 300 concubines, and his wives

  274. turned away his heart. That's verse three. Can

  275. you imagine 700 wives, princesses, and 300 concubines?

  276. The concubine was a mistress at that time that

  277. he did not marry. So imagine, I mean, two women

  278. in a household is a problem. So imagine this.

  279. Okay, verse four, so it came to pass when Solomon

  280. was old that his wives turned away his heart

  281. after other gods and his heart was not perfect

  282. with the Lord God as was the heart of David his

  283. father. So Solomon went after Ashereth, the goddess

  284. of Zionians, and after Milcom, the abomination

  285. of the Ammonites, and Solomon did evil in the

  286. sight of the Lord and went not fully after God

  287. as David did. Then Solomon did build a high place

  288. for Shemosh, the abomination of Moab, and the

  289. hill that is before Jerusalem, for Molech, the

  290. abomination of the children of Amon, And likewise

  291. did he for all his strange wives which burnt

  292. incense and sacrifice to their gods and the Lord

  293. this is verse 9 was angry with Solomon because

  294. his heart was turned from the Lord God of Israel

  295. who appeared unto him twice and he commanded

  296. him concerning this thing that he should not

  297. go after other gods and keep not that which and

  298. and but Solomon did not keep that which the Lord

  299. commanded Wherefore the Lord said unto Solomon

  300. for as much as you have done you have not kept

  301. my covenant my statues which I've commanded I

  302. will surely rend the kingdom from you and will

  303. give it to your servant Wow Wow, it says now

  304. with standing in your days I will not do it for

  305. David your father's sake But I will rend it from

  306. the hand of your son How be it I will not rend

  307. it away all the kingdom, but will give one tribe

  308. to To your son for David my servant sake for

  309. Jerusalem's sake which I have chosen Okay, so

  310. the Lord is angry you do not want you and I do

  311. not want to fall into the hands of an angry God

  312. Right? God is very angry because Solomon turned

  313. away all the things God spoke to him in the beginning.

  314. As he did what the Lord told him not to do, he

  315. reaped. that harvest. So anytime the Lord speaks

  316. to you not to do something or you read in his

  317. word, you know, don't give place to the devil.

  318. You read in his word, let not evil communication

  319. come out of your mouth. These are these are just

  320. things that God tells us for our own good and

  321. if we'll obey him. and we'll just treasure what

  322. he treasures, love what he loves and hate what

  323. he hates. What does he hate? He hates sin. He

  324. hates pride. He hates all those things that are

  325. gonna bring us to a place of an unhealthy harvest.

  326. So we wanna reap a great harvest. We wanna expect

  327. a harvest. God said, if we sow a seed, Whether

  328. it's a seed of love, finances, whatever we sow,

  329. if we sow it in the name of the Lord for the

  330. Lord Jesus Christ to help someone else, guess

  331. what? We're going to reap a harvest. But if we

  332. sow bad seed, just like a farmer, if he sows

  333. corn, he's expecting. a harvest of corn, not

  334. just one corn back, one seed back. You know,

  335. you're going to get the ear and you're going

  336. to get the whole stock. You're going to get the

  337. whole field of corn. But if you sow bad seed,

  338. and I think everyone has, if you're over the

  339. age of Five, you've probably done something wrong,

  340. but God's mercies are new every morning. So don't

  341. think, wow, I've done so much. I cannot be redeemed.

  342. Yes, you can. We don't live in the old covenant.

  343. We live in the new. His mercies are new every

  344. morning He will help you out of that situation

  345. out of that circumstance that you've gotten yourself

  346. in so deep you don't know how to get out but

  347. our God does and As soon as your heart is turned

  348. towards him and you say help me He will help

  349. you as soon as you give your heart your whole

  350. heart back to him. Guess what? He will cast your

  351. sin as far as the east is from the West. He will

  352. read Deem you again. You know, but love, when

  353. you love God, you will be motivated. Your stewardship

  354. to Him in what He's given you, the talents and

  355. giftings He's given you, will be fruitful for

  356. His glory. We are at our best when we are serving

  357. God out of a heart of love. You could serve Him

  358. out of mere obedience and not have the right

  359. heart and it's not you're not going to be happy

  360. doing that but when you start to get to know

  361. him that's how we get to love him more is get

  362. in that word worship him praise him lift up thank

  363. him thank him thank him the Bible says be thankful

  364. in all things you know so as we do those things

  365. we will get to know him he will come the Bible

  366. says he inhabits the praises of his people and

  367. we will want to serve him out of that heart of

  368. love, you know. And just like Peter, you know,

  369. Peter in the New Testament, oh, he served God.

  370. He followed after God. He performed miracles,

  371. signs and wonders. And when Jesus died and they

  372. started coming after those that followed, you

  373. know, they thought their life was going to be

  374. in trouble. And what does Peter do? He denies

  375. him three times. Now, Jesus told him, you're

  376. going to deny me three times because Jesus knew.

  377. He knew. He knew what was going on but then later

  378. Peter comes back God restores him and To he reaffirms

  379. him three times and then tells him feed my sheep.

  380. He gave him his assignment So while you think

  381. about that and we're going to go to a couple

  382. of songs and we'll come right back you In desperation,

  383. I seek heaven and pray that That's right, in

  384. Jesus' name, He has everything provided for you.

  385. So pray this prayer with me. Father, forgive

  386. me, cleanse me, wash me, renew a right spirit

  387. in me. In Jesus' name, amen. I just thank you

  388. for listening. I want you to go out and make

  389. it a great day. Please know that God loves you.

  390. We love you, and you are a champion in Christ.
