  1. welcome to shifting perspectives

  2. biblical conversations about topics that

  3. matter let's get to

  4. it hey everybody welcome back and we

  5. have been in this exciting conversation

  6. I mean at least it's exciting for me

  7. because I love talking about the Bible

  8. um I love proving why

  9. it's so important to me why why I've

  10. based my life on you know and that's

  11. that's the thing is if you're going to

  12. believe the book you have to either

  13. believe it or not to believe it that's

  14. the core litmus test because you either

  15. do or you don't and over the last few

  16. sessions we've really went into some of

  17. the reasons as to why we do believe it

  18. and we got a couple theories for you

  19. tonight um and some fact way a lot of

  20. facts are throw behind them uh to to

  21. further deepen and and build on what we

  22. talked about the last couple of weeks so

  23. uh you've got one that you're going to

  24. lead with that I I think is a very

  25. interesting interesting uh uh set of

  26. facts to to put in your hat as you

  27. consider will not you truly believe the

  28. holy scriptures so so one of the things

  29. when we talk about tests I like that you

  30. use litus tests you know because there

  31. there is a level of what are we going to

  32. put out there as a test to validate this

  33. and you've you've heard us talk about um

  34. you know the consist Y and the

  35. congruency across you know uh 66 books

  36. 40 authors 1500 years um we've got

  37. manuscript evidence we have

  38. archaeological evidence but we have

  39. these these other litmus tests if you

  40. will one of them we call the honesty

  41. test um and here's essentially how the

  42. honesty test works the honesty test says

  43. that if you're going to make something

  44. up you're generally not going to make

  45. something up that puts you in a bad

  46. light um so if I'm going to lie I'm

  47. going to lie to make myself look good

  48. right most people do I mean you know why

  49. not if I'm telling the story I want to

  50. tell the story that makes me look good

  51. and we have we have references in the

  52. Bible throughout that don't paint the

  53. authors or the people that are in the

  54. narrative in very good light yeah so as

  55. an example of that I mean Jesus called

  56. Peter Satan he said get thee behind me

  57. Satan because Peter said something that

  58. was outside of character of the will of

  59. God and what the expectation would be of

  60. a disciple and

  61. that's if I was going to write about

  62. myself I wouldn't call myself safe You'

  63. forget about that you'd forget about

  64. that part that's right we'll leave that

  65. one out and and go on you know or or you

  66. know James and John their nickname was

  67. the sons of thunder I mean you know they

  68. were kind of like Bulls in a China

  69. closet and I can't imagine running up

  70. against them in dark alley that's

  71. probably where they got that reputation

  72. from before Jesus yes and isn't that

  73. what's incredible as you start talking

  74. about guys' lives is the transformation

  75. of some of these different characters I

  76. mean you got a tax collector who

  77. basically was a thief you got fishermen

  78. who were basically Brawlers I mean

  79. that's James and John got that sons of

  80. sons of thunder nickname and you've got

  81. all of these varying personality types

  82. but yet none of them are really painted

  83. in a great light I mean Peter denied

  84. Jesus three times and it's all written

  85. about Mark who wrote the Gospel of Mark

  86. in The Narrative of Mark In The Garden

  87. of Gethsemane there's a young man who is

  88. described as running away from the scene

  89. naked I'm not going to write that about

  90. myself and that was Mark I mean Mark was

  91. writing about himself in the gospel

  92. narrative that he fled from The Garden

  93. of Gethsemane when the soldiers came to

  94. take Jesus away yeah so the honesty test

  95. basically says if you're going to lie

  96. and tell a story you're going to do so

  97. in a fashion that isn't going to make

  98. yourself look bad in the process so

  99. scripture is pretty clear on the fact

  100. that um you know God is not a respector

  101. of persons and he takes what is broken

  102. and damaged and turns it into something

  103. new um and that's all part of the story

  104. right I mean you have a journey

  105. absolutely everybody's got a journey

  106. yeah I've got a journey and you who are

  107. watching this video you've got a journey

  108. too and it doesn't have to be the Suns

  109. of thunder and you wanting to call down

  110. fire on the guy that made you upset or

  111. the road rage that you had but God

  112. changes us and it's okay for us to have

  113. that story yes right it's not oh you

  114. know I was I grew up in a Christian home

  115. so I never did anything wrong and

  116. everything was perfect I don't think

  117. anybody's got that story well I like to

  118. think that I no you know we we all have

  119. this journey

  120. and the the truthfulness of scripture in

  121. the Raw MH of people lends itself to the

  122. authentic it of the scripture and so

  123. that's one piece of the honesty test

  124. that we look at the second is you know

  125. if you're talking about a lie um

  126. generally speaking I know for myself

  127. included if if I'm going to tell a lie

  128. I'm probably not going to be willing to

  129. die over it the scriptures and from the

  130. time that the scriptures were were uh

  131. what we call canonized basically put

  132. together because it's 66 individual

  133. books right it's a compilation of of

  134. books when those were put together from

  135. that time to now over 2,000 years people

  136. have been willing to say I believe this

  137. so much I believe Jesus so much that I'm

  138. willing to die they've literally been

  139. beaten they've been martyred they've

  140. stood outside and watched their homes be

  141. burned down they've watched their

  142. churches be burned down they've watched

  143. their families be killed um and

  144. generally speaking from the honesty test

  145. standpoint you're not not going to do

  146. that over something that isn't

  147. true and so that's the realities of the

  148. honesty test that we put into play you

  149. know and as you talk about that and you

  150. think about those those patron saints

  151. and all those that lived at the time of

  152. Christ and you know one of the things

  153. that they that they did was they had the

  154. advantage they walk and they talked with

  155. Christ right they got to see the

  156. Miracles you know the the la The Book of

  157. John the very last verse say if we wrote

  158. down all the Miracles that Christ did we

  159. would the the volumes of the books of

  160. the world wouldn't contain them exactly

  161. I mean we get such a small slipper and

  162. that was his that was his love that was

  163. his gift to us was that love the

  164. Everlasting Love for salvation and one

  165. of those things is that love just he he

  166. asked for our heart you know and it's

  167. it's something that that you know it is

  168. it is a lifelong sacrifice as Paul wrote

  169. you know you know I sacri living sacrif

  170. I sacrifice myself daily um to to the

  171. work you know and and that leads one of

  172. the other things that we talk about is

  173. is the gap test the Gap Theory right you

  174. know where it says the farther away you

  175. move from an event the less um the less

  176. credibility the event had and so you you

  177. you know whenever you think about The

  178. Life and Times of Christ at the time of

  179. the crucifixion and you know we're

  180. approaching Easter the crucifixion uh

  181. the resurrection of

  182. Christ one of the things after Christ's

  183. Resurrection he didn't just disappear

  184. right they didn't put him in a grave and

  185. disappeared and you know if that would

  186. have been been the case then it would

  187. been like okay well you know somebody

  188. stoen but but no he walked he talked he

  189. met he was on this Earth for another 40

  190. days and people people literally saw him

  191. Ascend to heaven so the farther away you

  192. move from something says that I can now

  193. create more doubt right I can tell you

  194. anything I want to about what I did

  195. whenever I was 13 years old because you

  196. didn't know me when I was 13 years old

  197. right now the people that knew me when I

  198. was 13 years old I can't lie to them

  199. very much so the farther away that you

  200. move from something the more doubt that

  201. You' been created and that's what people

  202. have tried to do with the Bible say well

  203. it was written so long ago and you know

  204. this book was written after it already

  205. happened and you know they love say

  206. about Daniel by the way it's so so

  207. precise and and but then you realize

  208. that they say well it was written you

  209. know 300 years after Daniel but yet we

  210. have copies of Daniel in the septent

  211. which is the Greek translation of the

  212. Bible that came into that came into to

  213. be written years right after Daniel so

  214. their Theory falls apart which happened

  215. before the events that Daniel was

  216. talking about so you know they proved

  217. themselves wrong in in that so you take

  218. example um the other writings of the

  219. time you know you've got uh uh our New

  220. Testament scripture which we have

  221. roughly 5,800 copies of of the of the

  222. manuscripts and the text those were all

  223. proven

  224. real versus the other writing of the

  225. time which we have no problem with home

  226. R the same you we got roughly 2,000

  227. copies of that and we don't have any

  228. problem saying that that's real Homer

  229. wrote that it's fine exactly but we do

  230. question the Bible when we've got more

  231. than almost when we got almost three

  232. times the volume of just a new testament

  233. not counting the the tens of thousands

  234. of copies of that the Old Testament well

  235. and of just agreed yes just agre let's

  236. let's not forget that there are multiple

  237. languages that that the New Testament

  238. has been written in that are in that

  239. same category yeah so as and we look at

  240. those things and it's like now that

  241. we're we're down the road aways we start

  242. questioning what really happened

  243. remember were the ancient writings those

  244. that happened at the time they are so

  245. real so accurate they were written by

  246. eyewitness accounts and there's no way

  247. that this 66 book is as cohesive as it

  248. is if it's not true and it's not it's

  249. not God's inspired word right you know

  250. you take Plato Plato's writings we got

  251. seven

  252. original copies right Seven original

  253. copies but yet we have no problem

  254. describing them to

  255. Plato and and and and and the and the

  256. distance between them yes from from

  257. Plato's original to when those when

  258. those copies that we those seven copies

  259. that we have um that's that that's that

  260. whole Gap it's like 1,200 years you know

  261. or our new testament is not 1,200 years

  262. it's not a th000 years it's not 500

  263. years exactly um you know these these

  264. books are within so like you take the

  265. Book of Revelation if you if you if you

  266. look at at John and you can date that

  267. somewhere around say 8090 you're within

  268. 50 years of Jesus of Jesus's

  269. resurrection and his Ascension that that

  270. book was that book was

  271. written so you know the the the bottom

  272. line is this is the world tries to

  273. dispute and to negate the scripture

  274. because that is the foundational

  275. Cornerstone of what we have that's God's

  276. holy word and we either negate it or we

  277. try to change it we try to change it to

  278. say what we want it to say we go away

  279. from the origin scripts and we try to

  280. make it say what we want to say and the

  281. bottom line is you know going back to

  282. what we started about with the lless

  283. test is it positive or is it NE is it

  284. true or is it not true you know for me I

  285. studied it we talked last session about

  286. you know different people that had

  287. studied it and tried to prove it wrong

  288. and ultimately LED them to on their path

  289. to find Christ and find the Bible is

  290. true yeah um we talk about in Sunday

  291. school and our our messages and

  292. Wednesday night services you know as we

  293. Del into this we Del into them you know

  294. way deep and and you find those those

  295. threads and say there is no way this is

  296. not a cohesive writing that's why I have

  297. no problem with accepting the Bible as

  298. it's written as God's holy inspired word

  299. yeah me too U and so those are some of

  300. the common things and so if we just run

  301. back over the last few weeks um and and

  302. recap kind of what we've talked about

  303. you know you know why we believe this

  304. Bible um and and and really at the end

  305. of the day you're going to have to start

  306. a journey of

  307. faith that takes you down a path of

  308. knowledge that puts your faith on a sure

  309. Foundation to believe in this but you've

  310. got to start at the beginning and the

  311. beginning is get one pick it up open it

  312. let God begin to speak to you through it

  313. and as you do

  314. you'll begin to see those threats too

  315. and you'll begin to uh start

  316. recognizing God's story is amazing and

  317. he put it together in an amazing way for

  318. this very reason so that the answer

  319. could be given to the question is this

  320. really trustworthy is this really believ

  321. yes and I say that it is absolutely the

  322. most scrutinized book in the history of

  323. books by magnitude of a thousand and

  324. nobody's found the FL

  325. because it doesn't exist that's right

  326. and so with that we're going to close

  327. this series um that we've just done on

  328. why the Bible is trustworthy and why we

  329. believe it and we will see you guys next

  330. week as we dive into a new topic on our

  331. next shifting perspectives podcast thank

  332. you for thank you for watching be sure

  333. and share it with your friends you never

  334. know who's out there that needs this

  335. that's right
