  1. Hello Oak Ridge family. This is David here with

  2. Julie and Savannah from Acord and Acres and they're

  3. gonna read some scripture to us today. But before

  4. they do, I'd like to have them tell us a little

  5. bit about what helps them to look forward to

  6. Christ in this season. So my favorite family

  7. tradition is to make sugar cookies every year.

  8. My mom did it with us when we were little. And

  9. we also do them for Valentine's Day and different

  10. little holidays. And I have now continued on

  11. making them with my children and then hopefully

  12. one day grandchildren. I'd say every year I like

  13. to make Christmas cards for everyone and really

  14. tell everyone how I appreciate them and how they

  15. show up in my life throughout the year. I'm going

  16. to be reading from Ruth, chapter one, six through

  17. 18. Naomi received news from Judas that the Lord

  18. had helped his people. There was now enough food

  19. in Judah again. So Naomi decided to leave Moab

  20. and return to Judah with Ruth and Orphah. Naomi

  21. and her son's wives left their home in Moab.

  22. They began to travel together on the way back

  23. to Judah. On the way, Naomi said to Ruth and

  24. Orphah, listen, you should return to your mother's

  25. homes in Moab and stay there. Your husbands are

  26. dead now. You have been kind to them and to me.

  27. I pray that the Lord will be as kind to you.

  28. I also pray that God will give to each of you

  29. another husband and a new home. Naomi kissed

  30. them goodbye. Ruth and Orpha began to weep loudly.

  31. They said to Naomi, no, we will go with you to

  32. live with your people. But Naomi said, my daughters,

  33. you should return to your own country. You should

  34. not choose to come back to Judah with me. I will

  35. not give birth to any more sons for you to marry

  36. them. Return to your own country, my daughters.

  37. I am too old to marry another husband. Even if

  38. I did marry a man immediately, when might I give

  39. birth to sons? I am sure that you do not want

  40. to wait until they're old enough for you to marry

  41. them. Would you wait for all this time and not

  42. marry anyone else? So my daughters, you must

  43. not return to Judah with me. You should not have

  44. to share my pain. The Lord has turned against

  45. me." Ruth and Orphah wept loudly again. Orphah

  46. kissed Naomi and said goodbye, but Ruth would

  47. not leave Naomi. She held on to her. Naomi said

  48. to Ruth, look, Orphah has returned to her family.

  49. She has returned to serve the gods of Moab. Go

  50. back home with her. Ruth said to say that I must

  51. leave you. I will go with you wherever you will

  52. go. I will live wherever you will live. You belong

  53. to Israel's people. I will belong to them too.

  54. Your God will be my God. I will die in the same

  55. place that you die. That is where people will

  56. bury me. I will stay behind you until death makes

  57. us separate. If I ever leave you, the Lord should

  58. punish me. then Naomi understood that Ruth would

  59. not agree to return to her own country. So she

  60. stopped saying that Ruth should leave her. I'm

  61. going to be reading 2 Peter chapter 3 verses

    2 Peter 3:1–10

  62. 1 through 10 in the NIV version. Dear friends,

  63. now this is my second letter to you. I have written

  64. both of them as reminders to stimulate you to

  65. the wholesome thinking. I want you to recall

  66. the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets

  67. and the commands given to you by our Lord and

  68. Savior through the apostles. Above all, you must

  69. understand that this is the last days scoffers

  70. will come scoffing and following their own evil

  71. desires. They will say, where is this coming?

  72. He has promised. Even since our ancestors died,

  73. everything goes as it is since the beginning

  74. of creation. But they deliberately forget that

  75. long ago by God's word, the heavens came into

  76. beginning and the earth was formed out of water

  77. and by water. by these waters also the world

  78. was of time and was destroyed by the same word

  79. the present heavens and earth reserved for fire

  80. being kept for the day of judgment and destruction

  81. of the ungodly but do not forget this one thing

  82. dear friends with the lord a day is like a thousand

  83. years and a thousand years are like a day the

  84. lord is not slow in keeping his promise as some

  85. understand slowness instead he is patient with

  86. you not wanting anyone to perish but everyone

  87. to come to repentance but the day of the Lord

  88. will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear

  89. with a roar, the elements will be destroyed by

  90. fire, and the earth and everything done in it

  91. will be laid bare.
