  1. It's time for the Champions in Christ broadcast

  2. with Rhonda Harrison on 1017 AFN. Good morning

  3. and welcome to Champions in Christ. We're so

  4. glad you joined us. This is the day the Lord

  5. has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it.

  6. What a great day to be serving God. What a great

  7. day to be living in. There's so much so much

  8. going on in life so much victory to be had in

  9. Christ and today we're going to talk about how

  10. big God is and we're going to look at the life

  11. of Joseph and Joseph is in the New is in the

  12. Old Testament and his father was Jacob also named

  13. Israel. And Jacob had 12 sons and one of them

  14. was Joseph. He was the youngest and his mother

  15. was Rachel. He was the first son from Rachel,

  16. Jacob's wife. And although he was the youngest,

  17. he was the first one of that wife. He actually

  18. had another wife named Leah and we won't get

  19. into all that. And he had others. But Joseph

  20. is the one we're going to focus on. And Jacob

  21. loved Joseph. He loved him above all his other

  22. children. And he because he was the son that

  23. he had during his old age. And so Joseph. Was

  24. growing up and he was about 17 at the time and

  25. he dreamed a dream and he told it to his brothers

  26. and they hated him even more. They hated him.

  27. First of all, because his father loved him more

  28. than them and they knew it. You know, that's

  29. never good favoritism in a family is never good

  30. amongst the children. Excuse me, but in verse

  31. 4 chapter 37, it says what is? Brothers saw that

  32. his father loved him more than them. They hated

  33. him and could not speak friendly to him and Joseph

  34. dreamed a dream and he told it to his brothers

  35. and they hated him even more and he said to them

  36. here this dream, which I've dreamed for behold.

  37. We were binding sheaves out in the field and

  38. my Shiva Rose and stood above. You all and your

  39. sheaves were all around me and you bowed down

  40. in respect to me boy that tick them off. You

  41. know, they said not so, you know, they were they

  42. were really bothered by that. And then he dreamed

  43. another dream and told it to his brothers why

  44. he kept telling his brothers. I don't know if

  45. he's trying to aggravate them or if he was just

  46. innocently sharing these dreams, but he talked

  47. about how the suit sun and the moon and the 11

  48. stars paid respect to him. And he also told it

  49. to his dad and to his brothers and his father

  50. rebuked him and said what is this dream that

  51. you have dreamed shall I and your mother and

  52. your brothers all bowed down ourselves to you

  53. to the earth? And his brothers envied him, but

  54. his father took notice of what he was saying

  55. and the brothers went out to feed the flock and

  56. Israel Jacob said to Joseph. Did you did your

  57. brothers not go feed the flock? Then I will send

  58. you to them and he said and he said to him here

  59. I am and he went he said go I pray and be with

  60. your brothers in the flocks and bring me word

  61. again. So he sent him out. So the brothers are

  62. out there tending to the sheep and and as Joseph

  63. starts approaching verse 18, it says when they

  64. saw him a far off before he came they conspired

  65. against him to slay him. What? Yes, they were

  66. planning to kill him. They were so mad and hated

  67. him so much and envied him. They just wanted

  68. to kill him and they said to one another. Oh,

  69. here comes the dreamer. So come on now. Let's

  70. go ahead and slay him and cast him into some

  71. pit and we'll say that some evil beast devoured

  72. him and we will see what becomes of his dreams

  73. Ruben which was the oldest of the brothers. He

  74. heard it and he delivered him out of their hands

  75. and he said let us not kill him and Ruben said

  76. shed no blood, but let's cast him in a pit in

  77. the wilderness and lay no hand upon him that

  78. that he might. get rescued out of their hands

  79. to deliver him to the to our father again and

  80. it came to pass when Joseph had come to his brothers.

  81. They stripped him of his coat. He had a coat

  82. of many colors that he wore all the time that

  83. his dad made for him, but didn't make the others

  84. brothers other brothers one which that was not

  85. good because that caused him to hate him even

  86. more again. And so Here they are. They strip

  87. him of his coat. They took him and they threw

  88. him in a pit and the pit was empty and there

  89. was no water in it. And then they sat down to

  90. eat bread and they lifted up their eyes and looked

  91. and behold a company of ishmaelites came from

  92. Gilead with their camels bearing spicery and

  93. balm and myrrh going to carry it down to Egypt

  94. and Judah one of the brothers said to his other

  95. brothers. What profit is it if we slay our brother

  96. and conceal his blood? Come on, let's sell them

  97. to the Ishmaelites. Let it not be upon our hand.

  98. to be upon him for he is our brother in our flesh.

  99. And so the other brothers, they were satisfied

  100. with that. They said, OK, let's sell him. All

  101. right. Now you've got a picture. This is a 17

  102. year old kid and his brothers are completely

  103. basically kicking him out of the family, wanted

  104. to kill him. Now they're selling him into slavery.

  105. You know, Joseph being of that young mind, he

  106. had to just be broken and crying and pleading

  107. and And so let's see what happens. So the Midianites

  108. merchants, they came close to Joseph in the pit.

  109. And guess what? They sold him for 20 pieces of

  110. silver. And then the Ishmaelites took Joseph

  111. into Egypt. So now the brothers have to go back

  112. and tell their dad something. So Reuben returned

  113. to the pit. Where Joseph was not and he rent

  114. his clothes. He was in sorrow and he returned

  115. to his brothers and said the child is not there.

  116. Where should I go? And they took Joseph's coat

  117. killed a goat put blood in it on it. I mean and

  118. sent the coat and they brought it to their dad

  119. and said we found this. We don't know what happened,

  120. but I think this is your son's coat. Maybe an

  121. evil beast got him. Well, Jacob or Israel, he

  122. rent his clothes. He put on sackcloth and ashes,

  123. which is what they did when they mourned back

  124. then or fasted. And he was mourning for his son

  125. so much for many, many days that all of his sons

  126. and all of his daughters rose up, tried to comfort

  127. him, but he refused to be comforted. He said,

  128. Well, for I will go down to the grave mourning

  129. my son's death. And he wept for him. The median

  130. night sold him in Egypt to Potiphar. Potiphar

  131. was an officer in Pharaoh's house. He was a captain

  132. of the guard. But guess what? God was still with

  133. him. God was with Joseph. You may feel like you've

  134. been thrown in a pit. Maybe someone's abandoned

  135. you. Maybe you're someone walked out on you.

  136. Maybe your parents, maybe your your spouse, maybe

  137. your siblings. Maybe you're a parent and your

  138. kids walked out on you. whatever the case may

  139. be, God has not left you. He's always there.

  140. Reach out to him. Call out to him. He's always

  141. available. And what happens, we're moving on

  142. into chapter 38 now. He gets taken to Egypt and

  143. there, He's in Egypt and he's working for Potiphar

  144. and he finds favor and he becomes very prosperous

  145. and he finds grace and favor. And so it's amazing

  146. that he's working in Egypt now for Potiphar and

  147. Potiphar Just really likes him and starts to

  148. trust him and begins to trust him with everything.

  149. He's over in Egypt, which Pharaoh had put him

  150. in charge. And so he's trusting him with everything

  151. and what happens is Potiphar's wife becomes a

  152. problem, right? She starts to have eyes for Joseph

  153. and it gets a little crazy. And so the wife begins

  154. to try and seduce Joseph. Let's read chapter

  155. 39 verse 6 and he left all that he had in Joseph's

  156. hand and this is talking about Potiphar and he

  157. did not have odd except bread which he did eat

  158. and Joseph was a good person and he was well

  159. favored and it came to pass that his master's

  160. wife came for eyes for Joseph and she said come

  161. sleep with me, but he refused. and said to her

  162. behold my master wants wants me nothing in this

  163. house and he has committed all this into my hand

  164. there is no greater house than this neither has

  165. he kept anything from me and because you are

  166. his wife how can i do such a wickedness and sin

  167. against god he was so he loved god he wanted

  168. his relationship right and he's saying to her

  169. how can i sin against god you know that should

  170. be our heart every time temptation comes, we

  171. should think like Joseph did about the goodness

  172. of God. And let me make another point while I'm

  173. here, Joseph, all that hurt, all that rejection

  174. from his family not seeing his dad, his brothers

  175. get rid of him, he could have just wallowed in

  176. pity and just crummy depression and went down,

  177. down, down into a pit, but you don't have to

  178. and thank God he didn't. He went ahead and made

  179. the best of the situation. When you get dealt

  180. lemons, make some lemonade and pass it out. That's

  181. what he did. He even stood his ground with the

  182. with Potiphar's wife, the captain of the guards

  183. wife and said, no, I'm not sleeping with you.

  184. I know the blessings I have and I how can I sin

  185. against God? So he was he was really standing

  186. his ground. Well. So he kept having to go day

  187. by day verse 10. It came to pass as she spoke

  188. to Joseph day by day and he heard not what she

  189. said to lie with her or to be with her. He kept

  190. just ignoring her. But it came to pass about

  191. this time that Joseph went in the house to do

  192. his business and there was no men in the house

  193. at the time and she caught him the wife caught

  194. him by his garment and said come sleep with me

  195. and he left his garment in her hand and he ran

  196. and he got out of there. Wow. What a man of God,

  197. what a man of integrity. You know, that would

  198. be so good to see this day and time that men

  199. and women not yielding to their fleshly desires,

  200. but they're standing with their integrity. Verse

  201. 13, it came to pass when she saw that he had

  202. left his garment in her hand. and was fled forth.

  203. Then she called into the men of her house and

  204. said, Oh, he's brought you brought in this Hebrew

  205. test to mock as he came in to try and lie with

  206. me. And I cried with a loud voice. And when when

  207. he heard me and I lived in my voice and cried,

  208. he left the garment and fled. And she's like,

  209. you know, crying like this has been some injustice

  210. against her. So she's lying because he refused

  211. to sleep with her. And she spoke to them about

  212. it and guess what happened. He gets thrown into

  213. prison verse 20 Joseph's Master Potiphar took

  214. him put him into prison a place where the Kings

  215. prisoners were bound and he was there and he's

  216. in this jail. I'm telling you the Bible is so

  217. good. I mean people like soap operas. They like

  218. other books, but let me tell you there's some

  219. real stories in here and Joseph life is such

  220. a tremendous story because You know, he still

  221. is distant from his family. He still does not

  222. have favor with his family. And now because of

  223. being framed by Potiphar's wife, he now has lost

  224. favor and pop with Potiphar. But guess what?

  225. The Lord is still with them. And I want to tell

  226. you that today. The Lord is still with you. He

  227. sees you. He is with you. He has chosen you.

  228. You do not have to worry. He has chosen you.

  229. So if he's chosen you, he's with you. He will

  230. never leave you or forsake you. Not even in prison.

  231. If you're in prison today and you can hear me,

  232. God's never left you. He's right there with you.

  233. And let's see what Joseph does. So Joseph is

  234. in this prison. The keeper of the prison begins

  235. to have favor on Joseph shows favor towards Joseph.

  236. And so the prison keeper commits Joseph to all

  237. the prisoners in the prison and whatever they

  238. did. He was the doer of so he was helping the

  239. keeper of the prison the favor just doesn't stop

  240. the Bible says we have favor round about us like

  241. a shield and as long as we stay with the Word

  242. of God and keep doing what's right in the eyes

  243. of God. He's got that favor is not going to leave

  244. you. So no matter where you are he went from

  245. a pit and he and he gets sold into Egypt has

  246. favor then he gets thrown in prison which wasn't

  247. his fault and he has favor. And so he's just

  248. in prison, you know, trusting God. I'm sure he's

  249. praying and talking to the Lord. The big thing,

  250. too, you notice he's not holding unforgiveness.

  251. Unforgiveness and bitterness will destroy you

  252. from the inside out. It's not worth it. It doesn't

  253. hurt the person that you have it towards. It

  254. hurts you. So just let it go. Joseph let it go

  255. and he kept going with his life. And so let's

  256. see what happens. So while he was in there, The

  257. king had sent his baker, his chief baker and

  258. his chief butler to prison also because they

  259. offended him. And when they offended him, they

  260. went in and they met Joseph. And Joseph was in

  261. jail and the captain of the guard charged him

  262. with them and they continued. in a season in

  263. prison together and while they were in there

  264. both the butler and the baker they both dreamed

  265. a dream but they didn't have the interpretation

  266. and verse 6 of chapter 40 Joseph came in one

  267. morning and looked upon them and and they were

  268. sad and he said you know what's going on? Why

  269. do you look so sad in verse 8? He says they said

  270. we have dreamed a dream and there's no interpreter

  271. and Joseph said to them do not interpretations

  272. belong to God. Tell me and I will pray for you

  273. and they told him the dream and then he begins

  274. to tell him the dream each one of them the butler

  275. and the Baker and Joseph goes to God and says

  276. God and praise to God to get the interpretation

  277. gets the interpretation. and begins to share

  278. with them the interpretation and so as he shares

  279. the interpretations he tells them because one

  280. of them their dream ends up the baker ends up

  281. dying he ends up being being murdered by by Pharaoh's

  282. at Potiphar's and Pharaoh's. I'm sorry, not Potiphar

  283. at Pharaoh's command. The other one gets let

  284. go and restored to his place. And so he gives

  285. those interpretations. But when the butler was

  286. restored to his place, Joseph said, remember

  287. me. Well, the butler didn't he forgot about him.

  288. So again, here Joseph in the goodness of his

  289. heart, praise gets their answers for them. One

  290. of them gets restored and forgets all about Joseph.

  291. But you know, there's a there's a scripture in

  292. Psalms 105 19. It says until that time, the word

  293. of the Lord tried him talking about Joseph. You

  294. know, you may be in a situation. but the trying

  295. of your faith keep believing God keep trusting

  296. him no matter what it looks like God can be counted

  297. on he is your rock he is your fortress he is

  298. your stronghold in a time of trouble and he will

  299. deliver you from all the afflictions of the righteous

  300. always so just don't give up don't quit keep

  301. pressing on because this is not the end of the

  302. story just because this man forgot him God still

  303. hasn't forgot Joseph and so Joseph continues

  304. to be in prison. He ended up being in there about

  305. two years since the dream and what happens is

  306. Pharaoh has a dream and he gets really annoyed

  307. that he doesn't know the interpretation so he

  308. does in Genesis 41 8 calls the spirits calls

  309. all the magicians of Egypt to call on the evil

  310. spirits or the spirits they talk to to try and

  311. interpret this dream. Well, that's when the butler

  312. speaks up and says in verse 9 then spoke the

  313. chief butler to Pharaoh. I do remember this what

  314. this thing one day and he began to tell him how

  315. he met. There's a man in prison named Joseph

  316. and how he dreamed a dream and Joseph gave the

  317. interpretation. And so as he's telling Pharaoh

  318. this Pharaoh sent for Joseph and they brought

  319. him in and they shaved and he had shaved his

  320. head and all that and then Pharaoh begins to

  321. tell him his dream and Joseph interprets Pharaoh's

  322. dream and when he interprets Pharaoh's dream.

  323. Pharaoh is blown away that he has interpreted

  324. this dream. And so Pharaoh blesses him. gives

  325. him he he begins to say he says in verse 41 Pharaoh

  326. said unto Joseph see that I have set you over

  327. all the land of Egypt and Pharaoh took off his

  328. ring from his hand put it on Joseph's hand arrayed

  329. himself and in fine linen and clothing and gold

  330. chain around his neck and made him to sit in

  331. the second chariot which which they had and bow

  332. his knee everybody had to bow their knee to him

  333. the only ruler over Joseph was Pharaoh. That's

  334. amazing. So he went from the captain of the guard

  335. in Egypt to Pharaoh's second man in charge of

  336. all of Egypt. That is amazing, right? From the

  337. pit to the palace. And all he had to do was stay

  338. strong in God. Keep forgiving keep walking in

  339. his integrity and look what happened. The story

  340. continues to go on and he ends up getting his

  341. his brothers have to come because there's it

  342. becomes a famine in the land and Joseph is over

  343. all of that and they have to come get food. and

  344. it's a long story but in the end he gets restored

  345. with his family as well and this family gets

  346. blessed because of Joseph and Joseph had forgiven

  347. his brothers and therefore the entire family

  348. gets blessed and I say all this to say God knows

  349. what you're going through and God does do the

  350. work for you. He will provide favor. He will

  351. try your faith, but let your faith come forth

  352. as gold. And we're going to listen to a song

  353. about God's greatness. And I'll come right back

  354. to you on the other side. If you made it through

  355. and it makes no sense That's how you know it

  356. was him if you got a savior those prison doors

  357. of bondage in your life. God did. If you're in

  358. bondage today, whether it's in depression or

  359. grief or addiction or alcoholism or pornography

  360. or anything else that's got your mind bound your

  361. physical body bound your emotions bound God can

  362. deliver you the same way. He delivered Joseph

  363. out of the pit, out of the prison, into the palace.

  364. God has big plans for you and great plans for

  365. you. Don't forget that. He says, I know the plans

  366. I have towards you, plans to prosper you and

  367. not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and

  368. a future. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Well, if you

  369. are not a child of God, the promises of God aren't

  370. available to you yet. God's mercy is. So let's

  371. grab a hold of his promises today. Let's become

  372. born again. So pray this prayer with me. It's

  373. a simple prayer and it's just acknowledging who

  374. you are before God and who he is in you. So,

  375. Father, in the name of Jesus, we come before

  376. you. Just repeat this after me. Dear God, forgive

  377. me of my sin. I am a sinner and you came and

  378. you died on a cross to save me and to deliver

  379. me out of bondage. And I give you my life. You're

  380. my Lord and my savior. Thank you God in Jesus

  381. name. If you prayed that prayer, You have just

  382. been born again or you've just rededicated your

  383. life to the Lord. And I want to pray for you

  384. right now. Lord, in the name of Jesus, I thank

  385. you for freedom. You said those that know the

  386. truth, the truth will set them free and you are

  387. the truth and they know you now. So in Jesus

  388. name, be free. Get up and walk out of that bondage.

  389. Change your thoughts, change your habits. God

  390. is a faithful God and he loves you today. He

  391. loves you today. And so I wanna say this to you.

  392. God is there for you. Go to the word of God,

  393. begin reading it. It's a great full of wonderful

  394. promises from him. Start in the New Testament.

  395. Go to church, a church that preaches the whole

  396. word of God. And I'm gonna tell you, your life

  397. will never look the same. You won't recognize
