  1. Hello, Oak Ridge friends and family. This is

  2. David here with Doug and Rachel Lawrence. Today

  3. they're going to share a little bit of scripture

  4. with us to help bring in Advent season with Christ.

  5. And so what I want to do today is I want to have

  6. them share an element that points them to Christ

  7. to get started. One of our Christmas memories

  8. that we have had since we married was when the

  9. boys were older, we started going to tree farms

  10. and digging up our Christmas tree and then decorating

  11. it in our home and then planting it in our yard.

  12. So we have several Christmas trees that are huge

  13. now from when our boys were younger. And I really

  14. enjoyed this time. I would sit on the back of

  15. the pickup truck drinking hot chocolate while

  16. the boys did all the work. And did you notice

  17. she said, we dug up the trees. It was just me

  18. and the boys digging up, doing all the hard work.

  19. But that's OK. It was a great memory. All right.

  20. And now we're going to share a couple of scriptures.

  21. May the reading of God's word bless you richly.

  22. I'll be reading from Ruth 4, 13 through 17. So

  23. Boaz married Ruth. Then he slept with her, and

  24. the Lord blessed her so that she became pregnant.

  25. And she had a son. The women said to Naomi, we

  26. praise the Lord. Today he has provided a family

  27. protector for you. May this child become famous

  28. all over Israel. He will make your life new again.

  29. He will take care of you when you are old. He's

  30. the son of your own daughter -in -law. She loves

  31. you, and she is better than seven sons. Then

  32. Naomi took the child in her arms and took care

  33. of him. The women living there said, Naomi has

  34. a son. And they named him Obed and he was the

  35. father of Jesse and Jesse was the father of David.

  36. Psalms 146 verses five through 10. Blessed are

  37. those who depend on God of Jacob for help. Blessed

  38. are those who put their hope in the Lord their

  39. God. He is the maker of heaven and earth and

  40. the ocean. He made everything in them and he

  41. remains faithful forever. He stands up for those

  42. who are treated badly. He gives food to the hungry

  43. people. The Lord sets prisoners free. The Lord

  44. gives sight to those who are blind. The Lord

  45. lifts up those who feel helpless. The Lord loves

  46. those who do what is right. The Lord watches

  47. over outsiders who live in our land. He takes

  48. good care of children whose fathers have died.

  49. He also takes good care of widows. But he causes

  50. evil people to fail in everything they do. The

  51. Lord rules forever. The God of Zion will rule

  52. for all time to come. Praise the Lord. I'm going

  53. to read from 2 Peter chapter 3, 11 through 18.

    2 Peter 3 chapter mention

  54. Since everything around us is going to be destroyed

  55. like this, what holy and godly lives you should

  56. live, looking forward to the day of God and hurrying

  57. it along. On that day, He will set the heavens

  58. on fire and the elements will melt away in the

  59. flames. But we are looking forward to the new

  60. heaven and the new earth. He has promised a world

  61. filled with God's righteousness. And so, dear

  62. friends, while you are waiting for these things

  63. to happen, make every effort to find living peaceful

  64. lives that are pure and blameless in His sight.

  65. And remember, our Lord's patience gives people

  66. time to be saved. This is What our beloved brother

  67. Paul also wrote to you with the wisdom God gave

  68. him, speaking of these things in all of his letters,

  69. some of his comments are hard to understand,

  70. and those who are ignorant and unstable have

  71. twisted his letters to mean something quite different.

  72. just as they do with other scriptures, and this

  73. will result in their destruction.
