  1. Welcome to Shifting Perspectives,

  2. biblical conversations about topics that

  3. matter. Let's get to

  4. it. Hey everybody, I'll bet you can't

  5. guess what this week is here for us at

  6. Corinth Baptist Church. Uh, welcome to

  7. Shifting Perspectives. And this time

  8. we're shooting from the stage of our

  9. vacation Bible school. And you can see

  10. um our backdrop here from Wonder

  11. Junction as we're talking through um

  12. some of the things that we've talked

  13. about in these videos, things about

  14. Christ and the wonder of his incarnation

  15. and the wonder of his life and his birth

  16. and his death and his resurrection. All

  17. those things we kind of talked about

  18. that was orthodoxy and things that we

  19. just we just finished dialoguing. And uh

  20. even though it's vacation Bible school

  21. and we got a bunch of kids running

  22. around here right now. So, if you hear

  23. some noise in the background, that's

  24. what that is. But, uh, we still didn't

  25. want to miss getting this shifting

  26. perspectives episode out to you because

  27. we've got some we've got some really

  28. good questions that we want to talk

  29. about. So, um, one of the things that's

  30. been really good is is we've been having

  31. some dialogues from these videos with

  32. some folks being able to ask some

  33. questions. And we've got a question in

  34. this week that we want to tackle. Scott,

  35. why don't you share that with us? Yeah.

  36. So this week was it was an interesting

  37. conversation that I had just a few days

  38. ago in response to this. So I appreciate

  39. the question. Um but the conversation is

  40. if I have never been inside the church

  41. before. Um I've lived my life. Maybe I

  42. know or don't know about God. Maybe

  43. whatever. Maybe I've got some sin or

  44. some things in my life that I'm kind of

  45. ashamed of or I've got a rough

  46. reputation. whenever I finally make that

  47. step to come to

  48. church, what should I expect when I walk

  49. in the doors? Yeah, that's a great

  50. question. Um, and and my heart would

  51. want to say that you would be welcomed

  52. with open arms. Um, I believe that you

  53. would be here and I know that there are

  54. many churches that that would be the

  55. exact expression was um, welcome. We're

  56. glad that you're here. Let us love you

  57. and let us show you the Jesus that did

  58. the very thing in our lives at one point

  59. in time which was to transform us and

  60. wash away all of that baggage that we

  61. were carrying around with us. You know,

  62. it can be a pretty heavy pretty heavy

  63. thing to carry around a past and say

  64. that your past doesn't define you. Yeah.

  65. Your your definition of who you are was

  66. defined by God when he made you. Uh, you

  67. know, the Bible says in the 139th Psalm

  68. that before you were formed in your

  69. mother's womb that God knew you and all

  70. the days that he had fashioned for you

  71. were written in his book. So, you had

  72. already a picture on God's heart that

  73. wasn't baggage related. It was his

  74. destiny for you and how much he loved

  75. you. And so, that's that's what I would

  76. hope that would would be expressed.

  77. Yeah. Unfortunately though, I think a

  78. lot of times we hear from people who

  79. that's not what really what they've

  80. experienced. You know what you have to

  81. remember is this.

  82. Um, pastor, I got I'm going to lead my

  83. response back to a question. Okay. Are

  84. you perfect? Nope. Okay. I'm not either.

  85. And what you what I would want everybody

  86. to understand is that when you walk into

  87. a church, you're walking into a group of

  88. unperfect people. people that may have

  89. had past similar to yours. They may have

  90. had past different for years and fought

  91. different struggles. We're all sinners.

  92. We come short of the glory of God. The

  93. Bible teaches us that. That's like the

  94. ABC. The first step of ABC's is

  95. understanding that. So, what we're

  96. saying is, you know, come in, be a part

  97. of it, realizing you're walking into,

  98. you know, the hospital's full of sick

  99. people. That's right. You know, the

  100. church is full of people that have got

  101. sin and the different battles. I've got

  102. things I battle. You've got things you

  103. battle. So, don't let anything in your

  104. past stop you from coming into the

  105. church today. And realize that you're no

  106. different than everybody else. What we

  107. want to do is say there is a way to

  108. overcome what's in your past. And that

  109. is by the grace of God and the mercy

  110. that he pours out on each of us. He

  111. wants you here. He wants you

  112. fellowshipping with. You'll find

  113. strength. You'll find community. You'll

  114. find family whenever you walk in the

  115. doors. you'll find the saving grace of

  116. Jesus Christ whenever you walk in. And

  117. you know, we want you to feel that

  118. warmth. We want you to feel that love.

  119. We want you to feel that. And I think

  120. that is uh you know, ultimately what

  121. should you expect? It's that um with the

  122. realization that you're walking into a

  123. group of unperfect people. That's right.

  124. Um they have bad days, too. Um you know,

  125. and sometimes we have bad nights and

  126. sometimes Satan attacks us on the way to

  127. church on Sunday morning. That's right.

  128. Um, and you know, sometimes we don't

  129. come in with the best attitude. So, but

  130. again, it's about the community comes

  131. together. It's like being in a family.

  132. And you know, sometimes we don't get

  133. along with our families. That's right.

  134. But, uh, you know, the church is here.

  135. It's loving. It understands. We've all

  136. walked the same walk. And we want you

  137. here. You are welcome. That's right. You

  138. know, one of these great words that we

  139. throw around a lot in Christendom is

  140. this word grace. And the idea is is that

  141. grace was God giving us something that

  142. we don't deserve. And one of the things

  143. that the church should be really good at

  144. is giving what we've received. And so

  145. that grace is to say that I'm giving

  146. grace to the person who's having a bad

  147. day. You know, we may walk into Walmart

  148. or have a cashier that's grumpy or go to

  149. the restaurant and maybe the server is

  150. not all that great. And we recognize we

  151. don't know what kind of day they've had.

  152. We don't know what struggles they're

  153. fighting with in their life. We don't

  154. know what baggage they're trying to drag

  155. around. and they need just as much grace

  156. as we needed whenever we came to the

  157. Lord to receive that grace. And that

  158. should be the atmosphere of the church

  159. is that we recognize none of us are

  160. perfect and I need you to give me grace

  161. on my bad days or with my struggles and

  162. my difficulties just like I need him to

  163. give me grace and you need me to give

  164. you grace on your bad days and on your

  165. difficult times and difficult

  166. circumstances. So, so ideally we would

  167. love to be able to say that's what

  168. everybody is going to experience.

  169. Unfortunately, whenever you're dealing

  170. with people, I'm that that may not be

  171. that may not always be the case. Y um

  172. and one of the things that I really like

  173. to say is don't give up if that's not

  174. what you experienced. Um one of the

  175. greatest things that we can have and

  176. ever know is the feeling of belonging

  177. and finding the place that we what we

  178. would say we fit that that we really

  179. belong to. And maybe it's maybe it's a

  180. church that has a different style. Maybe

  181. it's a different music style. Maybe it's

  182. a different kind of preaching. Maybe

  183. it's a different uh group of people that

  184. maybe have some different cultural

  185. aspects than what you might find here.

  186. Um and and and don't give up. And maybe

  187. you've gone to some place and you I just

  188. really don't feel like this is home. I

  189. really don't feel like I I belong. Don't

  190. stop there. Keep looking because God

  191. wants to plug you into a body. He wants

  192. you to be a part of a group of people

  193. that you all can do faith together, do

  194. life together, do the do all the things

  195. uh all the good times, all the bad

  196. times, all of the struggles together.

  197. That's why he called it a bo body. You

  198. know, in the in the Bible, it talks

  199. about this group of people being a body.

  200. Like you're a hand and I'm the arm.

  201. Well, you got better muscles than I do.

  202. So maybe I'm the hand and you're the

  203. arm. But we've got feet and we've got

  204. legs and we've got arms and we've got

  205. all these different parts. And it, you

  206. know, it also talks about it as stones

  207. that are being built together as a as a

  208. living house, a spiritual house for the

  209. Lord. But, you know, they all don't fit

  210. together perfectly. And sometimes they

  211. need a little bit of a little bit of

  212. polish and a little bit of work. But,

  213. you know, the Bible also talks about it

  214. being a family. Yeah. And ultimately, at

  215. the end of the day, that's what we want

  216. to be. We want to be the family of God.

  217. And like you said, sometimes families

  218. don't get along. That's right. Now, the

  219. ultimate thing is is and and this is

  220. kind of a a segment a segment that I

  221. want everybody to understand because I

  222. hear this a lot is well, I'm not good

  223. enough to go to

  224. church, you know, and you got I would I

  225. would beg anybody that's let that

  226. thought cross their mind if there's

  227. anything going on in your life and you

  228. say, I can't go to church because of

  229. this or because of that, you please

  230. understand my Jesus Christ, my Lord, is

  231. bigger than anything in your past. and

  232. he already knows about it. So don't

  233. limit the power of God's grace by

  234. something you've done. You can't get you

  235. can't do enough to get God's grace and

  236. you can't do enough bad not to be able

  237. to receive his grace that the pastor was

  238. talking about. So don't let something

  239. going on that you have or something

  240. that's happened to you or something in

  241. your past hold you out of the doors of

  242. of Christ's family. Come in, feel the

  243. love, sing the

  244. hymns, experience the the God pouring

  245. his grace out on you. Um, sometimes

  246. walking through the door is the hardest

  247. piece. It is. Yeah. I I've seen people

  248. pull up in the parking lot and be so so

  249. terrified because they just didn't want

  250. to walk in the door. That's right. Don't

  251. Don't be that person. Walk in the door.

  252. Understand you're going to be met.

  253. You're going to be met with a handshake.

  254. There's going to be open pews. There

  255. going to be people that that are ready

  256. to sit next to you. Um, we are here to

  257. welcome you into our church. As we this

  258. videos get spread everywhere, there are

  259. churches all around you that will

  260. welcome you in. Um, and as pastor said,

  261. you got to find the one that's right.

  262. Yeah, that's right. I mean, you got to

  263. find it's like a restaurant. You may

  264. have a different restaurant than I do.

  265. You got to find the one that fits you.

  266. Um, and for the churches, you know,

  267. whenever you're looking for a church,

  268. find one that teaches the Bible

  269. doctrine. go back and look at our last

  270. series of videos talking about the the

  271. books of the Bible and the doctrines and

  272. the denominations and find the one that

  273. fits you that teaches good sound Bible.

  274. That's right. Yep. Yep. That's the

  275. thing. And you know, um just to carry

  276. that line as as we wrap this up, um

  277. there is nobody worthy. Um that's the

  278. thing about grace. You can't earn it.

  279. You can't be born into it. You can't get

  280. a legacy from somebody else that gives

  281. it to you.

  282. um I was never good enough and my

  283. parents were never good enough. I you

  284. know I certainly didn't get the silver

  285. spoon of God's grace. The only reason

  286. why we have it is because Jesus came and

  287. went to the cross and carried the weight

  288. of our guilt, our shame, our sin for us

  289. so that we might be able to then receive

  290. his righteousness, his worth before the

  291. Lord, not ours. Amen. That's the picture

  292. of grace. And so with that, we'll see

  293. you guys next week for another video um

  294. on the same topic. Have a good week.

  295. Bye.
