Episode 25 - Bob and Krisan Buckel

Hello Oak Ridge family and friends. This is David

here with the Buckles and Today they're going

to share some scriptures with you Happy eve of

Christmas today, or it will be when you hear

this recording Anyway, what is something that

points you to Christ? I'm Bob buckle and I'm

Chris and you know with me for a long time. It's

been music I love Christmas carols. I especially

love, like, the one that the Christmas play started

with, that O Come, O Come, Emmanuel, which is

in a minor key. It's kind of lonely sounding,

and it's, I don't know. I've always liked songs

in minor keys better than major keys. And so,

but the music being in band and then again, then

being in choir later on when I was in high school.

I just love the music. It comes from all over

the world. It comes from ages and ages ago, some

of it, and it just... It makes me think of Christmas.

It makes me think of Jesus coming. I recently

learned a new song in Spanish that kids sing.

And for some reason, it started showing up on

my Instagram. It's the sweetest little song about

the burro that took Jesus that Mary wrote on

as she was going to Bethlehem. And it's, come

with me, come with me. If you wonder where I

am, I'm going to Bethlehem. And it's just the

cutest little song, and it's been an earworm.

I can't get it out of my head. And so I lay at

night and that little song comes into my brain.

But, you know, just like we had the Christmas

play right now, it was recently we had the Christmas

play at church and it showed all the little animals

that were in it. I think that's a unique way

to look at Jesus and it leads us to Jesus thinking

about the animals and how they think of things.

Isaiah 9, 2 through 7. In fact, speaking of songs,

this is the text for a good bit of Handel's Messiah

right here in Isaiah. The people walking in darkness

see a bright light. Light shines on those who

live in a land of deep darkness. You have enlarged

the nation. You give them great joy. They rejoice

in your presence as harvesters rejoice, as warriors

celebrate when they divide up the plunder. For

their oppressive yoke and the club that strikes

their shoulders, the cudgel the oppressor uses

on them, you have shattered, as in the day of

Midian's defeat. Indeed, every boot that marches

and shakes the earth and every garment dragged

through blood is used as fuel for the fire. For

a child has been born to us, a son has been given

to us. He shoulders responsibility and is called

Wonderful Advisor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father,

Prince of Peace. His dominion will be vast and

he will bring immeasurable prosperity. He will

rule on David's throne and over David's kingdom,

establishing it and strengthening it by promoting

justice and fairness. From this time forward

and forevermore, the zeal of the Lord of Heaven's

armies will accomplish this. So mine is from

the New Testament. Paul wrote it in the book

of Titus, chapter three, verses 11 through 14.

For the grace of God that brings salvation has

appeared to all men. It teaches us to say no

to ungodliness and worldly passions and to live

self -controlled, upright, and godly lives in

this present age while we wait for the blessed

hope, the glorious appearing of our great God

and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for

us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify

for himself a people that are his very own. eager

to do what is good. This is David. I'm going

to read Psalm 96. Worship in the splendor of

holiness. Oh sing to the Lord a new song. Sing

to the Lord all the earth. Sing to the Lord bless

his name. Tell of his salvation from day to day.

Declare his glory among the nations. His marvelous

works among all the peoples. For great is the

Lord and greatly to be praised. He is to be feared

above all gods. For all the gods of the people

are worthless idols, but the Lord made the heavens.

Splendor and majesty are before him. Strength

and beauty are in his sanctuary. Ascribe to the

Lord, O families of the peoples. Ascribe to the

Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord

the glory due his name. Bring an offering and

come into his courts. Worship the Lord in the

splendor of holiness. Tremble before him all

the earth. Say among the nations, the Lord reigns.

Yes, the world is established. It shall never

be moved. He will judge the peoples with equity.

Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice.

Let the sea roar, and all that fills it. Let

the field exult, and everything in it. Then shall

all the trees of the forest sing for joy, for

he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the

world in righteousness, and the peoples in his

faithfulness.
