Snake Handlers - Bro Samuel Howell 8-28-2026

How many is thankful to be here tonight? Talking about

having a soft heart and pliable. I remember and even

still any message that so much as nicks me or

hits me hard, I still still have a soft heart

towards the things of God and hearing the voice of

the Lord. I don't want to do anything that offends

my God or anything that'll go against the word of God.

I'm certainly thankful to be here. I'm certainly thankful for

this opportunity. I appreciate my pastor and my youth pastor.

I love them dearly. They mean the world to me.

Role models, examples of how it's supposed to be done.

There's so many other young people in the church that

and churches across the United States, they really don't have

solid examples that are set before them and follow.

You hear a pastor talk about his pastor.

Whenever he was a young man, sending him to the

car and country music playing. I don't think any of

our young people here has ever experienced that from their pastor.

That ought not to be for their youth pastor, but

I'm thankful for the opportunity.

You could be turning to the The book of Acts,

the book of Acts chapter 28. The Lord gave me

Acts 28 · chapter mention

this message Wednesday, Wednesday afternoon at 423. I was down

praying before service and I don't think it's strange the

way the service went Wednesday concerning this message here. But

we'll be looking in Acts chapter 28 verses 2 through 5.

Acts 28:2–5

So everybody should now, if you have.

Your Bibles, you should see about where we're going and

understand what was said Wednesday and how the Lord lined

this up.

We do give God the praise and the glory for it.

But right here in Acts chapter 28, verse 2, And

Acts 28:2

the barbarous people showed us no little kindness, for they

kindled a fire and received every one of us because

of the present rain.

And because of the cold.

And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks and

laid them on the fire, there came a viper out

of the heat and fastened on his hand. And when

the barbarians saw the venomous beast hang from his hand,

they said among themselves, No doubt this man is a murderer,

whom though he hath escaped the sea, yet vengeance suffereth

not to live. And he shook off the beast into

the fire and felt no harm. Lift your hands and

ask the Lord to help us here tonight. God of heaven, Lord,

we ask you right now in the name of Jesus, God. God,

that you would anoint us, Lord, that we would say, Lord,

only what the things that you would have us to say, Lord.

That we would do your will, Lord, only your will, God,

and preach, Lord, with the anointing.

Lord, we ask that you would pour out your spirit

upon every one of us, Lord. God, touch a young

person here tonight. Lord, God, touch a young child, Lord God,

whatever the age is, God, that we ask you, Lord,

that we would be able to get through to them

through your help, God, and through your grace, God, and

through your mercy, God, and we'll be sure to give

you all the praise, the honor, and the glory. Lord, hallelujah, Lord,

we'll praise you forever, Lord. In Jesus' name we ask

and we pray. Amen and amen. Now, most snakes don't

look like this. There are some of them that have

vibrant colors, but tonight we'd like to preach for a

little while on snake handlers. I know that's kind of

a comical, maybe for some people it's a little bit

comical for you about snake handlers because we're used to

hearing the term snake handlers to those twisted individuals out

there in those other states that believe it is of

God to pick up serpents and And that's not what

we're going to be preaching about. I'm not going to

preach their message. I'm not going to preach their doctrine.

That's not my burden. My burden is this. This here

can be a snake. And for a little while, like

I said, I like to preach on snake handlers. But

Paul here is traveling. And they're on this ship. And

they're traveling to head.

On their journey.

And he warns these people about a storm that is coming. Nevertheless,

they ignored his warning and they experienced and encountered the

very storm he warned them about. And they find themselves shipwrecked.

They find themselves lost there and abandoned. And the soldiers' counsel,

should anything happen from the Satyrian, was to immediately execute

any of the prisoners.

That way they couldn't get away. But Paul found favor.

I believe Paul maybe had spent a lot of time

talking to this man. And this man realized, hey, this

man is innocent.

He is a preacher. He hasn't done anything wrong.

But because of Paul's favor with the centurion, the centurion

ordered that they should let him live. And anyone that

could swim, go ahead and be cast out and swim.

And those that couldn't to lay hold of things that

could support them and get them across the sea. And

it says when they made it to land that the

barbarous people showed them no little kindness. They saw a

need and they said, hey, let's help out. I'm sure

there were some strange looking men on this boat. I'm

sure there were some rough looking characters on this boat.

You know, because they were nothing but prisoners. There was

murderers probably on this ship. And nevertheless, these barbarians and

these barbarous people, they said, hey, these men, it's cold,

it's raining. They're going to be hypothermic. We need to

get something. We need to build a fire. We got

to do something in order to sustain life. And what

I love about Paul is he's a preacher of the gospel.

He says, hey, I'm not going to sit here and

take a handout without doing some work myself. He said, hey,

I'm a preacher. I've got to do some work myself.

There's so many other men in this world and other

preachers that would just say, hey, it's all about me.

I'm a prisoner. Just soak it on up to me.

And they won't put forth any effort. I believe a

preacher should be willing and ready to work at any moment,

no matter your situation.

You should be ready to give.

And Paul, in his haste, in his willingness to hurry

to build fire and to add and to do something.

He's just picking up sticks.

He's just grabbing them probably as fast as he can

because it's raining and it's cold.

Perhaps it's non-sheltered, the fire is.

And in his haste, he grabs something and he throws

it in the fire. And whenever he throws it in

the fire, a viper comes out and bites him. And

that's where we get to where we're going to preach

tonight on snake handlers. Like I said, I'm not going

to be preaching those people's doctrine. But every young person

in here, real quick, before we go any further, that

has a cell phone, raise your hand. Every one of us,

I believe, besides some ages, probably eight and down, or

probably about the ages that have phones, these things can

be deadly if not handled correctly daily. This thing has

the ability. In order to become a snake in half

a second.

This thing has the.

Ability to unleash venom in half a second.

Even though you may say like Paul it was not

on purpose. I was in haste and I was in

the moment. and I just grab it.

Nevertheless, you have been struck by deadly poison. Paul only

survived by the grace of God. You may not die physically,

but one snake bite and one strike from this thing,

when you don't use it properly, you don't respect it properly,

could be the very venom that takes your soul spiritually.

That's why I warn you tonight, when you try to.

Warm yourself by the fire, Of this world.

Watch out what you grab. Watch out for the serpent.

That is hiding.

Within this phone.

Hallelujah. Like Paul.

We pick it up daily. We place it in our pocket.

We go about our day. We hold it to our face.

We communicate with it. We look at it. I looked

it up. Our age group from 18 to 24, those

are the ones that are most active on their phones.

It said on an average, the 18-year-old through the 24-year-old

spends up to nine hours a day on their phone.

That is a long time. If you think about it,

young men, those that work a job here, you work

eight hours a day. So somehow in this world, the

devil presents an opportunity for these people to spend nine

hours a day on their phones. That is ample time

and ample opportunity for us.

To surface.

You might say, I'm just gonna look at this one

little thing real quick. And next thing you know, you've

been on there for hours. It is a deadly trap.

It is a serpent lighting in wait.

And you realize, I got on here at 5 o'clock.

It's 9 o'clock now.

What have I done? There is no way. Oh, God's

green earth.

That a snake didn't present itself. In that time span.

And you didn't find yourself. Struck by the snake.

And the serpent. Yeah it was in good conscience.

Yeah you had your heart. Maybe you said I'm going

to kill a little time. But nevertheless you were struck.

I pray for a praying church today. We live in

a very.

Tech.

World nowadays. COVID helped make some things easier. Not only

for the business side of things. But for the devil.

He made things easier. Have to have access easier. I've

watched now. I've been on this world. On this earth

for 25 years. And I've heard Pastor Nim tell about how.

How far things have come. I remember when my dad

got his first blackberry. That was the coolest thing in

the world, we thought. You know, I can see it now.

I mean, it was only about that big, about that wide.

But we've come a long ways from that now. We've

shifted a lot further from that now. You now have access.

I looked it up.

They said to games and any type of social media app,

they said there is easily hundreds of thousands of things

that you can.

Download on your phone.

And I can promise you every one of those things

is not godly. Every one of those things were made

with an intent from the devil. It was made as

a distraction. It was made as a lure to cause

you to go into things further death than you should.

I don't know of any godly fearing man that has

created an app for the sole purpose. Now, there's probably

somebody out there for the sole purpose and the benefit

of the Christian.

The holiness Christian.

Every one of these people that create these demonic apps

are demonically inspired. There is messages inside them saying, I

remember as a young child, this will probably flash back

a lot of memories for someone, a particular game that

pastor preached about extremely hard. And it was going all

across the whole in this movement. It was called Temple Run.

Who remembers that demonic game? And there was young people

in our church that was obsessed with it. And pastor

got stirred up one night and he looked it up

and he began to.

Look into it. What is this obsession with this game?

Hours and hours and hours of it. Well, it was simply,

you know that game Subway Surfer, right? It's a cheesy

little game. But instead, yes, you were running a man.

It said you were running from demons. There was demons

chasing you from this demonic cave. You can't tell me

that app that you have on your phone that you

have hidden somewhere in your cell phone isn't a serpent

in disguise that is hoping to take your life and

is hoping to wreak havoc on your soul. The devil

has made it a lot more easier to sin discreetly

There is no longer a need, Brother Jesse, to go

to a red box and rent a movie where you

run the risk of being caught by your pastor. It

can all be accessed right here in the silence of

your bedroom, in the silence of your home, at time

on the break room at work. It can be accessed.

It's the viper of the very devil of hell. Lest

you think I'm preaching only to you. Tonight I've done

my own cell phone check. And I said, Lord, if

there is anything on this phone, that is a viper

to my soul spiritually. That is a snake instead of

a stick. I don't want any snakes in my soul.

I want fuel for the fire of God Almighty. It

would bid every one of us good if we would

go through our phones tonight and see, Lord, is this

a stick in my heart or is this a serpent

in my soul?

I remember watching.

People, because I don't think it's still there. I haven't

heard of these anymore. Going back to that red box.

We never rented one. I can promise you that. The

Howells never did. Never made it to that hell box.

But I remember by chance or something for some reason.

We went through the parking lot of this Winn-Dixie. Here

in LaBelle. And there stood one of pastor's members. Had

their back to him. Didn't realize. And they were picking

up a movie. That devil's got you sick. He's got

you sickly tricked. He's got you duped and deceived. You

sit in that corner in that bed. Like I said,

I'm preaching to myself. You sit in that corner, lay down,

and you don't even realize laying on your chest is

the very viper.

Of this world. Just wait to wreak havoc on your soul.

He's caught up real nice and distinctly on you because

you got cold and weary. And he's warming himself by

your heat. And the moment you realize and you react,

he will strike.

Oh, hallelujah. Help me, Holy Ghost. I need to hurry.

I remember when I first got my phone.

At the age of 14, at the age of 14,

I remember this very well, and I'm sure the other

Howell kids would remember this. Dad and Mom not only

would have a curfew when we had to be off

the phone, there was times when, well, a lot of times,

they would take the phones with them.

I was 14 years old.

I had access to way too much. Trust me, my

pastor took precautions. But dad and mom knew the deadly

weapon and the trap that this could be. And every

young child right now is hoping to God that their

parent don't get any ideas tonight.

Parents, what happened to say, hey, turn that phone into me?

Young child, I can promise you it benefits you.

When you get older.

You would realize just how much it was to your safety.

I plan to do the same thing with my children.

I don't want to let them be bit by the serpent.

I get sick and disgusted when I see these parents

hand an eight-year-old.

Child a phone that is a.

Serpent of the devil. You're going to expose them to things.

And trust me, I've done my fair share of asking, Dad,

can I have a phone? Dad, can I have a phone?

There was times he'd come out straight up right and

say no. But a lot of times he just ignored me.

That nagging little kid. Whenever it comes out that they've

looked and partook of something.

At a young age.

You're going to say, oh, God, why did.

I hand him that bopper? Oh, God, why did.

I give him that serpent? Oh, that I could go

back and do it again. And I know this is

a youth service, and I'm preaching to y'all too. But

I ask these parents to consider the fact that you

are the one that presents it to them. You are

the one that says this is when you'll get it.

This is what you'll do on it. God of heaven,

what happened to protecting your child?

Hallelujah. Let's name some of these snakes. We already mentioned

a couple of them.

Some of these snakes that are accessible with about a

download wait time of 30 seconds.

And a delete just as fast.

And these new phones, you can delete it, then re-download

it and still have everything you ever found on it.

It's keeping track. Delete it before mom and dad wakes

it up. Dad and mom disappear, reinstall. YouTube is the

worst one out of all of them. And I'm preaching

to myself. I hope to God none of us have

this one, TikTok. All I ever hear about at church,

or at work, sorry, rather, from all my demonically oppressed coworkers.

Demonically oppressed, I said. They are troubled individuals. For hours

they do something called doom scroll. From one video after another.

From one content after another. My God, that is a

trick of the devil. The very title of the dumb

thing is TikTok.

Do you not understand?

I'm saying time by, time by. Let me distract you.

Let me distract you a little further. Let me poison you.

Let me bite you.

One more time. That thing is demonic, oppressing, and assuredly possessing.

Pastors preach this one out of our church, and I

again hope nobody's got this one.

Snapchat.

I remember probably for the month that I had it.

You weren't only texting your friends. There was these little

secular stories that would come across there that you could watch,

that you could flip through. And you say it's just

a chat with my friends. I ain't looking at nothing.

What are you talking about?

Hallelujah.

Bad contacts. A contact between me and Brother Nathaniel, is

that bad? No. I text my brothers. I love my

brothers dearly. But that co-worker that insistently assists on texting

you daily, you ain't got to entertain that snake.

They know you have good morals.

The very plan, the very plan of the devil is

to destroy you and to bite you and to make

you slip up and cuss. That's the very plan of

the enemy. You do not have to respond to that field.

You do not have to contact them. I don't care

if it's about work related. That can wait to work.

Because a lot of times it will start off with

a question about work. And then they want to chat

about everybody else at work. That's a trap. Because the

very plan of them is to get you fired. Because

they want to be able to go to the other

person and say, hey, they were talking about you. Look

what they said about the boss.

God.

I don't know that we have this. But any fake

contacts marked as uncle so and so. But it's actually

a boy named Schuyler. I'm just throwing a name out there.

Uncle Mark, but you're texting Schuyler. If there's any sneaking around,

dad and mom won't think. They'll see that and skip

right over that. There was a 16-year-old girl talking to

a 58-year-old man. I think it would behoove us to

go through some phones tonight.

And sit some little children.

Down and say, is this a stick or is this

a snake?

Tell me about it. Is it a viper? Wait to

shock you and release this venom.

Amen.

Movies.

There is no Christian movie. Because what happens. You watch

a Christian one. Then you watch one. Where this person

is trying to get saved. I'm just creating my own

little story here. And then the next thing you know.

You're watching Marvel movies, which I have never watched. But

the very trick of the devil is to get you

interested with what you believe first and then to dupe

you and slowly but surely warp your mind in some disgusting.

Foul way that it goes along with the same thing.

It's simply a ploy of the devil.

Have I named any snakes that you've gotten bit by yet?

How about this one? Secret social media accounts. So that

you can keep up with that ex. God forbid if

any married men are doing that. Don't want your family

to know, hey, I'm going to reach out to her again.

I'm going to try her one more time. I know

she was terrible for me. I know she was a

bad influence for me. But I wonder what she's up

to right now. I wonder who she's talking to right now.

That is a trick of the devil. That is a

viper of this world. That is tricking you and deceiving you.

And you don't even realize that you're being bit by

the very serpent. And before you know it, you feel

the sting of the bite. It's too late now. Because

you nonchalantly....

Picked it up.

I'll look at it one more time. I won't stay

up there as long. I've done better, Lord. I won't

look at it as long. I've been there too. Set

yourself a time limit. Right?

One more minute. One more minute. One more minute. Three

hours later.

You're still saying one more minute when you don't realize

that the snake is.

Saying a little more venom. A little more venom. I

got him a little bit more sick. I got him

a little bit more drowsy. I got him a little

bit more confused.

And then our pastor stands up here in the service

and saying.

Hey, wake up.

That's a snake that you got to hold on. That's

a snake that you're holding.

Wake up. That's a snake. And you say, I wonder

why I can't seem to get any better.

It's because it's the snake bite of sin.

Oh my. You say, how can evil, how can context

be bad? Be a snake.

Evil communications corrupt good manners. You hung around them workers

that have no respect, and then suddenly you are somebody.

That worker gets in your face, you get right back

in his face. Christians don't do that. Bible said we

turn the other cheek. Sure, we don't be pushed around.

We don't take a cussing, but you ain't got a

screaming holler in his face.

That's a good way to find yourself knocked out on

the ground.

I had a man cuss me at work one time,

and I simply said, don't you cuss me like that again.

That's all it took. And you know what he said?

He said, I'm sorry, dude.

And now every time he slips up and he cusses,

he covers his mouth and says, I'm sorry.

I didn't mean to do that.

That's what a Christian does. A Christian just simply says, hey,

don't do that to me. And it's not, I'm going

to blow up in your face, and I'm going to

tell you what. I'm as big as you are.

When in reality, they are people of this world. They

won't think nothing of beating.

Your heart into the ground. Matter of fact, they'll get

pleasure out of humbling a little twerp. They'll go around

and say, hey, I beat his tail into the ground.

You know what the boss is going to say?

Thank you. You took care of something I was needing

to take care of. Hallelujah. Let's keep going.

Is it that in one of those apps that you

keep going back to, you can't spiritually see this?

Hallelujah.

Thank the Lord. Snakes love to eat rats. I've been

wondering why that was sitting up there for so many services.

You're dangling.

You're antagonizing a strike. You're like one of them cobra charmers.

Playing my little flute. Whoop, too slow. My God, you're

going to get struck. Brother Jesse, I looked it up.

A cobra can spray its venom up to 10 feet.

With perfect accuracy.

And it says it aims for the eyes.

The eyes are your eye gate.

My God of heaven, you're provoking a strike and you'll

find yourself dead.

You dangle that rat. One more time. My God, you

might not get away. Holy Ghost have your way. Snakes

don't ever blink. Never blink. Never blink.

They can strike faster than you can blink. Their eyes

are always on the target. The devil's eyes, young people,

are always on us. He never blinks. He knows exactly

what it is that your heart desires when it's not

right with God, when you're a little cold. He knows

exactly what to pop in your face because he's been

watching you the whole time.

He's been licking the air.

He's been tasting and saying, hey, what.

Is it they're hungry for? Oh, hallelujah.

Eve got in trouble because she listened and grabbed From

the tree. Brother Jesse, she didn't get bit by the snake.

The fangs were in the fruit. The fangs was in

what she partook of. You might say it's just a

little peak. I don't see no snake in this. And

it might not be, but my.

God, when you take a bite, your eyes will be opened,

all right? On the things of this world.

If regretted were taken, every time you grab a new wheat,

right afterwards, you know you regret it.

But nevertheless, It has unleashed its venom.

And there's nothing you can do about it. It was

a touch and taste. It was a touch and taste

that got her. I think just recently, if I'm not mistaken,

one of the services, a pastor was preaching about alcoholism.

That could be a taste or a touch. That can

be a little taste. I will set no wicked thing

before mine eyes. The devil has made that harder to

do in this generation because wickedness and evil is everywhere.

And I'm not saying all these Christians go around and

beholding wickedness.

That is not of God.

I'm saying that if we didn't have Holy Ghost blinders on,

that we would behold evil and wickedness everywhere. How do

we put those blinders up? By prayer. By reading our

Bible and saying, oh God, before I leave for work, God,

protect me today. God, don't let me fall. God, I

don't want to be bit by a serpent tonight. God,

I don't want to partake of anything.

That is unholy.

The devil has a snake and a trap everywhere. Because

he realized that his time for breaking people down is

running out.

When you're gathering wood.

In your cold season, spiritual season, young person, there really

shouldn't be any young person struggling in this church. Let

me just say that. Struggling is by choice. And by

lack of praying and reading your Bible. But whenever you

find yourself in a cold state, young person. And you're

searching for something or somebody to build a fire with.

To put on your fire. To rekindle an old flame.

Whatever it is.

You better check that pile of sticks.

Because they're just chirping. laying among it.

That which you hold in your hand, that thing you

think to be harmless is actually deadly. A stick is straight, right?

Sometimes they're a little crooked, a little jagged. I have,

this is just my belief, not only was it cold

and it was raining, I feel like it was also

pitch black because snakes, You can see them pretty well.

There's some of them that they're the master of disguise.

Don't get me wrong. But Paul no doubt would not

have purposely grabbed a snake with the intent of throwing

it in the fire. I don't see him saying there's

a snake. Let me pick this up. I believe it

was 100% by accident. But however, the barbarous people They

knew to check the sticks. Paul was just trying to

be a helping hand. He was trying to help somebody out,

and he got bit. If you are not saved, sanctified,

and Holy Ghost filled, don't you dare go to an

infested pile of wood and say, I'm going to help

this person out. I'm going to be a help to them.

Paul had good intentions. But within his good intentions, he

got shook. You can have good intentions and say.

I'm going to go back. I'm going to help. Let

me move on.

I've got what I need. I can do what I

need to do now. No, you'll get bit. You'll get bit.

You now have poison. Well, these snakes have poison. Just

build up. In the wintertime, they're less active in the cold.

They seek places of warmth. And usually that's piles of

stuff and that's heavy thickets. So they have all this

ventum build up. And they're just waiting for an opportunity

to get warmed up. release it you're desperate for warmth

and you grab this phone thinking you'll find your warmth

here you won't find warmth you'll find a viper I

want to ask you tonight is it a stick or

is it a snake that app on your phone is

it wood for the fire or is it a snake.

Is it fuel for your.

Fire as you seek for the Holy Ghost? Or do

you keep getting bit? Do you find yourself keep getting sick?

Right when you say, whoo, hallelujah, Lord, I got a

good dose of it. You know, I grew up hearing

those that had the Holy Ghost tell us, those that

were seeking, say, hey. it's going to take what it

took to get, it's going to take to keep it.

I can now say that is 100% true. You don't say,

all right, once I got the Holy Ghost, I'm set

for life. That's the Baptist belief. Once you're saved, you're

always saved. Once filled with the Holy Ghost, you are

not always filled with the Holy Ghost, young people.

Hallelujah. Let me hurry up. I remember this. I don't

know if Brother Phillip remembers this.

As a young child, back before we moved down here,

me and one of our cousins, me and one of

our cousins, was playing. We had, I think, like two

or three acres up front, eight acres in the back,

something like that. And I can still remember this perfectly,

where we were at, what position of the property we

were in. It was three of us, and we probably wasn't,

but yay, hi.

You know, our life was different.

Our parents had a lot more confidence, I guess you

could say, and not kids being kidnapped.

You know, we had a lot more liberty.

So we were just running around, but we saw a

snake coming. And I believe it was Brother Phillip, I

don't know if you remember this story, but I remember

this very well. He thought it was a fake snake.

So he said, hey, look, there's a fake snake. And

it was a corn snake. Y'all ever seen them old

wooden snakes that are, I think they used to sell

them at Cracker Barrel. It's made out of solid wood. Well,

that's what we assumed it was. So Brother Phillip reached

down to grab it, and right when he went to

touch it, that thing took off.

And what I'm.

Trying to get at is he was well within striking

distance of that serpent.

I looked it up.

A snake can strike up to half of its body

length at its target. You think you're at a safe

distance from the strike. You think you're playing with it

for a little bit and you're well enough back, but

you were closer than you think. The devil has you deceived.

Them snakes will curl up in a tiny little ball

in half a second. They're full length right in front

of your face. There has been many people that have

been struck because they thought they were at a safe distance.

I looked it up.

They said, anywhere between 81,000 and 138 people die globally

a year from snake bites.

That is a lot of people.

They said 5.4 million people are bitten a year globally

by snakes. And you want to tell me that you

can spend nine hours on this phone And not be

bit by the viper hiding curled up inside of it.

When there's people dying yearly from a snake bite.

Hallelujah.

I'm almost done here. I'm going to share this last

little story here. It was shared with me. It's a

great story. Nevertheless, there's this little Indian kid. And I

believe Brother Houston told this story years ago. There's this

little Indian kid where I believe his father took him

up to the mountain.

And left him up there to.

Become a man, if you will, and to complete his challenges,

maybe teach him how to hunt and kill and survive

by himself. Well, it was cold, and on his way back,

he came across a snake, I think maybe a rattlesnake

or something like that.

And he picked it up. Well, he went to the snake.

And the snake said, hey, pick me up. I'm cold.

And the little boy said.

No, you're a snake. I don't want to touch you.

And the snake said, well, if you leave me here,

I'm going to die.

Pick me up.

So the little boy finally, he picked it up and

put it in his little buckskin pouch. And he took

down the mountain. Well, he got to the bottom of

the mountain. And he took the snake out. And the

snake had revived and had warmed. And when he went

to set it down, the snake bit him. And the
