Let's look at Matthew chapter four. Matthew chapter four. Okay,

Matthew chapter four, Okay, Verses eighteen to twenty. All right,

now I'm gonna read Okay, can you see this? Shall

we read it together? Okay? In three two one and

Jesus walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brothers,

Simon called Peter and Andrew, his brother, casting a net

into the sea, for they were fishermen. Then he said

to them, follow me, and I will make you fishes

of men. They immediately left their nets and followed him. Amen.

So whose idea was it on discipleship?

Was it?

Ex Church, Jesus? The essence of follow me? Now I

want us to understand how this even began? All right, now,

let's read a verse before that? Okay, before this? Okay,

you know in all the gospels, Matthew, Mark, Look, and John,

I was searching the scriptures, well, literally searched the scriptures.

I was trying to see what did Jesus do when

he started his ministry? Do you know that before he

started the ministry, what happened at thirty years old, Jesus

was baptized. Do you remember that Jesus was baptized. He

came out from the water and what happened? Holy Spirit

descended on him. Now, let's go to that slide on anointing.

Before anything can happen, there needs to be an anointing. Right.

The anointing it looked like a dirve that came upon

Jesus was the Holy Spirit. And what did God say

to Jesus? You are my beloved son whom I am

well please exchange? Can I tell you? You are God's beloved

children with whom he is well pleased. That is your identity, Amen,

That is your first identity before anything else. You are

God's child. You have to remember that. And you have

been anointed appointed all right, anointed by the Holy Spirit. Amen?

Do you have the Holy Spirit? Yes? If you believe

in Jesus, he has given you the Holy Spirit. You

have to receive it. You have to receive this gift. Amen.

Now after okay, after Jesus was anointed, then he was tempted.

Correct if you follow your track along? Now, after his temptations,

what did he do next? Let's read verse seventeen. Go

to Matthew chapter four, Read verse seventeen. What is verse seventeen?

Go to your bibles? What is Matthew Chapter four, verse seventeen.

What does it say? He preached? Okay, after he received

the anointing, he preached. He advocated for the kingdom of

God and kingdom waste. Amen. That's what he did. Now

after he was as he was preaching, what did he do?

He told people to repent? And then look at verse eighteen,

which we just read. What did verse eighteen tell you?

He went walking? Right, he went walking around summit. So

let's go walking around summit. And he was looking, and

he was looking, and then he saw elie, okay, those

of you behind, I will show you what this means. Okay.

And then he said, Ellie, follow me, Come follow me, Yes,

follow me, okay, come follow me? Yeap h.

Think about what just happened. Continue, continue, Let's.

what just happened. Firstly, there needs to be an invitation

karage for the discipleship to happen. Okay, So let's look

at this like now, see when Jesus says follow me,

it was an invitation. Go to the next light. It's

anointing this one. When Jesus said follow me, it was

an invitation. And what could have Elie responded? How could

have she responded? Why? I don't know you? Who are you?

Think about it? When Jesus appeared on the scene, he

was a carpenter. Did the carpenter make friends with the fishermen?

Probably not on a regular basis. They probably didn't know him, right,

And so suddenly like, come and follow me, that's what

you're thinking, right, who are you? But at this time

is Jesus famous yet? Has he performed any miracles yet?

Zilch zero? Nothing to his name yet. But then when

he said come and follow me, she did. And then

I gave her something And what did she do? What

did she do? She passed it on? Right, she passed

it on? Do you see? There was some confusion happening

here along the way. What am I supposed to do?

Ah?

True or not? You think about it. It's been two

thousand years since the first church started. Jesus said follow me,

He called his first disciples along the way. What am

I supposed to do? Her? And then all the way

he got a bit clearer here, and it's very hot. Now, repent, repeen?

Did I do it like that? No? Right? Actually, when

Jesus was repenting, I don't know whether he was talking

to the crowd or not, but he was just walking

one day and then he saw his disciple. He called,

it's an invitation. What's the next one? It's an invitation

from the word. It's a calling. Yes, what is the message?

Go make fishes of men? Yes? Do you see that?

It's a calling that I have issued to Ellie. Okay,

by the way, we are not walking now, but our

journey as disciples, we are constantly walking. Correct, We're gonna

be constantly walking. And she has to constantly follow me. True.

If she's not following me, she's following. If she's not

following me, she's following someone else or herself. And then

the message that needs to be passed on will not

get true if she begins to waitward somewhere else, guess

what they will be passing on something else. Okay, do

you understand that it's a calling? Can I tell you your

calling as a disciple comes with a job description? Yes?

What are you supposed to do? Go fish for men?

Are we fishing. We can be busy. We can be fishing.

Are we fishing for the right things? Okay? And last one,

let's go, let's go, do you know? Okay? Can we

give them around applause for being good sport? Thank you

for being a good follower. Do you know that when

Jesus says follow me, it was not a choice. It

was not saying, oh, if you are free. If you're free,

then you make disciples. Okay. I think if you have

your Bible college, then you can make disciples. Jesus didn't

give it as an option. If you feel like it,

I don't feel like it. Jesus, it was a commandment,

follow me. First thing is follow me. So but you

know with every commandment there's some to it. With every commandment,

it can be broken, right, You can choose to disobey. So,

no matter what you think about Jesus, when he issues

the commandment, you can choose to disobey. And many of

us have true So this is what it is. Do

you know that it's link directly to the first commandment

in the Old Testament? Do you know that, because like

I illustrated just now, you shall have no other gods

before me? Right, means you only follow one, You only

follow one that was God's idea. You should have no

other gods before me. And yet we find that as

we are following going through life, we sometimes follow other things,

We follow other ways, We follow mane my way instead

of God's way. The moment youveer away from following God,

are you still follow him? No? You have created another

pathway for yourself. Do you see how it's linked? Can

I tell you that this idea of discipleship has always

been on God's mind? Which is the next one? It's always,

It's always It's always been on God's mind, this whole

idea of discipleship. Do you see that it's not a

New Testament thing, it's God is a God thing. You

see in Genesis chapter one? What when God made men

and women? When God made you and me? What he say?

He say, let us make man in our image according

to our lightness. Do you know when you are okay,

how many children you have here? How many children you

have here? What kind of English is this? How many

of you have children here? Okay? How many of you

are children yourselves? Okay? All of us, all of us

have been in some form of a relationship right where

we come under someone's care and covering, and there is

this sense of protection and wanting to point you the

right way. Correct. Parents, you know when you raise your children,

do you do you intentionally like, no, I think you

should go the wrong way? Yeah, I think she try

some drugs. You know, I think it's good to get high.

Do you intentionally do that? You don't, right, You're always

trying to point them to the right way, which you believe,

and if you are tracking with God, you think you're

saying to them, this is the right way for you

to live. Right, And you know what brings your pleasure? Parents?

You know like whow when someone says to you who

your son is? Like youman, oh your daughter is exactly

like you. And I don't know whether you feel proud

or you're like oh no, no, uh huh like nia right,

So it brings God pleasure when the children begins to

look like Jesus. Amen. Do you know when your children

behave the way you think they should be it? Because, uh,

if you think that they should behave they should be

kind people. I believe that you're a kind person yourself. Yes,

if you believe that honesty is important, that's how you

would teach them. And when you see honesty in them,

do you see that there is a likeness? Now I'm

not talking about physical likeness only. I'm talking about the

spirit likeness that is God's intentions with all of his children.

We've established that you are firstly God's child. Now the

question is do you look like him? Does your neighbor

look like him? And this is where we go through

this whole discipleship journey, so that at the end goal

is that someone looks at you and doesn't see Gary,

or doesn't see Martha, or doesn't see Steven, He's like,

I see Jesus. Wow. How about that? Isn't that a

great thought thought to be thinking. I'm in this discipleship

process and the end goal Ax Church, the end goal

for you is that you look like Jesus, you speak

like Jesus, you think like Jesus, you pray like Jesus,

you fast like Jesus. Wow. Do you know? Then we

will be on a great journey to really transform this

world when there's so many little Christs that's not just

concentrated here, but you're sent out to the world to

bring fla to the world. A man. That's what discipleship is.

It's really so that we look like Jesus. What is

the angle? Do you know? My own journey with this

is that I came from a non believing family, non Christian.

They were Taois my parents. My dad is an atheis.

He doesn't believe in anything, doesn't believe in God, only himself.

That's also God, right. So as I became a Christian,

I have been to quite a few churches in my

growing up years because I moved right I located. I

was moving to another place because of studies and all that.

So I've attended different churches. But it was only when

I came to ext church that I actually saw what

discipleship is. You know. Otherwise I was just a Christian

if I use that your own definition, meaning oh I

believe in God? Yes, oh, meaning I believe in the Bible.

Of course, I gave my tithes an offering off. But

was I truly a disciple? And I saw it firsthand.

When I first came to church, there was someone already

eyeing me like, oh okay, newcomer. I get to know

her and invested their life into me. Do you know?

I was so blessed. I was like Wow, someone really

cared about me. Someone cares about how I make decisions.

Sometimes it's very painful, but I won't be where I

am today without all the discipleship that had taken place.

I think many of us here can attest to that

that we the current product is a product of disciples people.

We didn't just become mature by ourselves. We were disciples

and that's God. I did you know otherwise? Right, Jesus

don't have to have the top disciples. He didn't have

to use the men, you know who were there, fishermen.

They don't know mets, they didn't know the Bible, Bible degree.

They only knew Jesus. That's the only qualification that you

need to be a disciple. Do you know? Otherwise Jesus

would have just said, oooh, Holy Spirit, all of you

will be discipled by the Holy Spirit. Why did he

use men? Why did he use people? Because you recognize

there is power in that process? Yes? Amen? All right?

So I want to bring to you this whole idea

that discipleship making discipleship is a journey. Can you tell neighbor,

you're on a journey. So we are on a disciple

making journey and We want to get really deep down

into this this year. That's our theme and not just

a theme. You don't need just to be a campaign.

We want it to be our lives and to bear

fruit out of it. Amen. Now I want to bring

to you a story. So I already told you that

disciple making is God's idea. Okay, So let's read a

portion of scripture. What is God thinking about it? Let's

go to Jared before that. I think there's a scripture

on Isaiah, right, is that an Isiah scripture? Now? Oh,

before this, No, let let's not go here first. Okay. Now,

now let's go to Jeremiah first. Sorry, let's go to

Jeremiah first. Now, see Jeremiah, he's in the business of

he's a prophet, right, He's a prophet, and he spoke

many things to the people. Now there was this part,

there was this part. Now, let's read that. Do you

have the Jeremiah verse? Okay, Jeremiah eighteen? Okay, never mind, okay,

we'll bring we'll come to that later. Now, okay, do

you understand the business of making something? Yes? Okay, Now

let's go to business or making pots. How many of

you have done pottery making before? Pottery making anyone, Hey,

only two three? You should try it. It's a really

good activity to do with your friends and your family,

and you'll get to know more about God through the process. Now, okay,

so you know that in the olden days people make pots, right,

people make pots. What's the use of parts to start things,

to cook, to ferment things. Okay, we'll get to that

in a show. So it sounds it's very useful. Right now,

if you are a pot maker, you run a business. Now,

so I'm going to tap into your business mind. You

are now running a pot business. What is your purpose

or making parts to sell for for profit? Are you

going to sell for a loss? No way. Any business

person will tell you if you're selling it for a loss,

close your business. Okay, correct, Now. If I'm in the

business of pot making, right, I want it to be profitable.

I want it to be beautiful. There's a picture of

a beautiful vas can you see that? Can you see here?

We always associate pots as just you know, to start

things to Yeah, it's useful, it is useful. But there

are also some very beautiful pots that are made throughout

the world. Right, And you look at it and you know,

like Wow, you're ming dynasty vas two point five million.

Maybe I don't know how much it costs. But the

pot maker, as you're making pots, you always have an intention.

That's right. You have an intention, and God also has

an intention when he wants to make you his disciple.

Is it a good intention? It's a good intention. Now

I'm in the business of making pots, and this will

be my purpose. I will want to make my pots

so useful that everybody in the world want to use it. Correct.

You want to make something useful, right, that's number one.

You want it to be profitable. So not of course

you want it to be profitable if you're making a

loss at it, why start a business? Okay? And finally,

do you know as your pots are being sold you're

getting famous? What does it bring to me my reputation?

Do you see that anything that I produce. Let's say

you buy a pot from me and now there's a

crack in the pot? What would you say of me?

You will call me a crack pot? That's right? Would

you buy someone for me? Or not? No quality? Right?

It's like, why this factory is not making such a

good part? Not consistent quality? So God once is when

we are thinking about making parts, and I want you

to relate to making disciples right. Think about it. Are

the disciples that you are making useful? Are they profitable?

And do they bring God glory? What kind of reputation

does it bring God through your disciple making? Even before

you go into disciple making, I think about yourself as

a disciple. Are you clear that you're now a disciple

of Jesus? Are you useful to God? Are you profitable

to God? Do you bring God glory? The next verse

is this in Isaiah forty three, Verse seven says, bring

all who claim Me as their God. We are claiming

Jesus has our God. Yes, For I have made them

for my glory. It was I who created them. Do

you see that God created man and women for his glory,

for his pleasure, for his use. Amen. This is what

it is. All right. Now, we say that this is

taken from Jeremiah. So I'm going to read the verse

from Jeremiah eighteen. It's here, okay, So let's look at this.

I didn't make this up on my own, Okay, It's

in your Bible about part making, and God says this

the word which came to Jeremiah from the lord saying,

arise and go down to the Potter's house, and there

I will cause you to hear my words. Then I

went down to the Potter's house, and there he was

making something at the wheel. Okay, potter's busy, right, We're

also busy, right, we are making something at our wheels. Now,

let's go. Verse four says this, and the vessel he

was making a clay, was spoiled in the potter's hands,

and he reworked it into another vessel, as it seemed

good to the potter to do. Now, when the potter

first started making the vessel, what was his intention? He

wanted to make a good vessel. Do you when you

make something, do you perposially say, oh, I want to

make it a bad one. Anyone you start making something like, oh,

I hope it turns out bad? Nobody, your intention has

always been good, right? The potter's thinking, I want to

make this the best one yet. Well, I'm gonna make it.

But what happened in the process of disciple making? What

happened as he was molding and molding and trying to

shape it became spoiled. Is it because the potter's not expert? Oh?

Sometimes you say, yeah, yeah, it's your faultl Okay, if

I'm the potter, it's my fault because it's so hard

to handle the moving clay with the water's sot one

little like degree wrong, Blair, the whole thing's gone. Okay,

that's me, the potter said. But if you think about

God as the potter, do you think he makes mistakes?

So what caused it to spoil? It can only be

one right, the clay didn't run in the potter's hands.

I'll blame the environment, sure, sure, yeah, we all do that.

It's always someone else. Yeah, it's not God's fault. It's

not my fault. It's it's Yeah, it's the traffic, right,

it's the system, it's the government, it's our education system. Yes,

that's what we do. We blame it on everything else

until we look at it problem and say, actually, who's

it for? Okay. Now, I'm not an expert in pottery making,

but I don't want to share a recent experience that

I had in this bullet is that? Okay? Now, how

many of you like sour do break sour dough bread? Behind? Donah?

You know what sour do break? Oh God, God, thank you,

thank you friends, how many of you have made sour

door before? Ah? Try try it, try it? Okay, good attempt,

good attempt. Okay, So as you know, okay, so you

don't know. I tried making this during the COVID time.

Do you remember two thy and twenty where we couldn't

do anything and all of us got creative and busy

trying to make some stuff. So I made sour door.

Then I've left it all because life happened after that,

and then life became sour and then so there's no

time to bake sour dough. So I left it. And recently,

my beloved daughter, Okay, Lizzie say, Mommy, I want to

eat sour dough break. So in my mind I'm thinking,

oh yo, sourdo break very expensive. It's true, right, it's expensive.

It's expensive. I'm like, why I'm gonna pay? I don't

know how much twenty bucks for a loaf at least, So,

being the very prudent mom, I say, never mind, I

make for you, okay, I made for you la. So

this was like early January, you know, so I started

to make sour dough. Now I want to show you

the ingredients for sour dough the business of making bread. Okay,

so we're talking about the business. Now we talk about

the pots. Now we are to talk about the business

of making bread slash disciples. Now, what are the ingredients

you need? Okay? Active? Can you see active? Sour dough, plain,

flower water, salt, simple ingredients? Do you have it at home?

Most of it you have except for the you don't

have the sour dough starter. But everything else you have

a not flag god water, got I hope? So also

got right? Hmm. It seems like very ordinary things. Okay.

So now I had all the other three ingredients, I

didn't have the sour dough starter. So what do I do?

You can buy it? All right, you can buy it.

But again I'm like, ey, it's okay, let me go

ari all the way. Okay. So I started to make

sour How many okay? Some of you who know? Ready,

never mind. If you don't know, how do you think

you make the active sour dough stata? How do you

make the sour door stata? You need ease? I hear yease,

you need ease? Right? Okay? Where do you buy yeas?

Where do you find yeas at the shop?

No?

Need you have it at home, because do you know

to make the sour dough stata you only need flour

and water. That's it. Huh? How come?

No?

Really, you only need flour and water to make a

sour dough stata. You're thinking, how is this possible? So

it is possible. I went through so many because I've

forgotten how to make really right, So I went to

all the websites just thinking about how do I even

get this started? Okay, So basically what you do is

you put fifty grams flour, fifty grams water, you stir,

and then you leave it in your pat tree and

you wait. Okay, Now, if those of you who've been

on the on the sour door making journey I call it,

you recognize that. Do you just leave it like that

and then it will activate by yourself? You cannot, right,

because what's gonna happen and what's gonna hit you? On

day two? After you leave it twenty four hours, right,

then you go like whoa, what is that smell? That stench?

You will realize that in your bottle, your jar, there's

gonna be a little hooch, right, a little brown liquid

that when you open up it's like aww it things

like gym socks, you know, jim socks, worse, drench it

all and then you go like, whoa, what is this?

It hits you and I think after that, Lizzie's like,

I think, I don't wanna eat ready. I don't wanna

eat hot already. And you recognize, actually, right, we are

like the flower on its own? Does anyone here eat flower? Oh? God?

Oh?

Go one hen, wow, brother or sister? Okay? It does

it taste nice? Does it taste good? Nobody eats flower?

Because on its own it's so dry and it's tasteless.

Do you know that we, in our untransformed self, is

useless and tasteless. And therefore we need the water here,

which is the Word of God, the Word of God,

the living Word of God, to come into our lives,

mix within us. And then you know what happens when

you encounter the word of God. The Word of God

will not leave you alone. When you encounter the water,

what earth as a plane flower? With the Word of

God the water, what happens? Now that's a transformation. Now

do you see years in the air anyone? Can you

see yeas in the air? No? And what happens is

when you mix these two things together, the years in

the air comes into this new formation. Now can you

see the Holy Spirit? Church? Can you see the Holy Spirit?

But when you put yourself in an encounter with the

Word of God, do you know what activates the Holy Spirit?

It comes into this new formation, you and the Word

of God that now begins to become active. Do you

see that? Do you see that you can by yourself?

Will you be transformed? Or not? Even if I put

ten backs, ten kilos or flower all together, will you

be transformed? No? So that's what like many of us

is we come in sometimes as just ourself, our dry

bags of flower, and then we don't have contact with

the Word of God. And then you go like, how

come there's no transformation? How come there's no power? Do

you know that the fermentation process is power? And when

Jesus comes in the Word of God and then you

allow the Holy Spirit to come and activate you. That's

why it's called an active sour door starta it needs

to be activated. Amen, tell your neighbor us, your neighbor,

are you activated or are you still just plain flower? Right?

And so that's what it is. You know, then actives?

Do you know do you know what an active sour

door looks like. The starta this is my initial, my

initial combination of fifty grams water and fifty grams flower.

That's it. Do you see how it has activated at

least three times more than the original. And if you

are going through life and you're saying I need God's power,

this is the secret. The secret is being washed with

the Word of God, being filled with the Holy Spirit.

Then you become active. Love but bling, but bling. So

excited that moment I saw it bubbling. You know why

because the first bash that I did right was flat.

We call that LIZZI one point oh. LIZI one point

oh died. Okay, so I'm like, what happened today? Never mind?

I make again. So now we have Lizzy two point zero,

which is you can see here this is real. By

the way, it's in my house now okay, I didn't

take this from the internet. This is really in my house.

And then but you see the process was you know,

sometimes when you go into discipleship, right, we have this

first encounter. On the second time, this stench comes up.

Oh tower in Chinese, We're going, whah betahn. The smell

is so bad, and we get so turned off by

we're like, forget this whole discipleship thing. Forget it. It's

too smelly. I can't take it. But do you know

that that's part of the process. I'm not at the enda.

I'm at the starting of it. Some of us have

a resistance to this because we say I tried it

before and it stank. It's so bad. I had a

bad experience. I don't want this anymore. Right, But you

know what happens in the process is daytree. Now you

have to discard half of it and you have to

add in fresh flour, flesh, water. That is a process,

you know. And in that sensor, in the discipleship process,

what happens is you gotta say less of me, God,

more of you, less of me, more of you. There's

this discarding of our flesh, discarding of our old habits,

discarding of our own mindsets. You see, it's a process, right,

And then I went through it. So most websites say

seven days you will have an active sourdo I'm like, no,

I tested. You know that as a disciple, you'll be tested.

So the test is this. The test is you fill

up a glass of water and then you drop a

dollop of the sour door into the water. Now the

test is this. If you float to the top of

the water, it's active. It's usable. You can then now

make break. But if it sinks, try again. Sometimes when

we are tested under severe challenge and trial, do we

sink or do we rise? Do we sink or do

we rise? But I have good news for you. Do

you want to hear the good news? The good news

is when you found that when you go through that

test and you sink, hallelujah, there's still tomorrow. You know

what happens tomorrow. Tomorrow, you discard some more, you add

fresh flour and water. That's it. You continue. So most

websites say you only need seven days. How long do

you take me? Fourteen days? Long? You know, I'm like,

what's wrong with my sourdos? It's so easy to blame, right,

But I went through it and then I said, okay,

now it's active after fourteen days. Praised a lot. So

I made one batch and I let my family tried it.

They say, okay, Mom, pass do again. So I was

so happy, right, I say, okay, now I want to

make two batches, because why I'm a good sister. I

want to pass one to my sister. Okay, so now, hey,

why find a product ballom luggy, Ballom luggy. Next before that,

now I wanted to make two batches. Yes, two batches,

exactly the same ingredients, exactly the same Lizzy two point

Oh as well, the sour door was there. Okay. Now

you see, after you put the flower together, you leave it.

There's a long process to it. But what happens is

in the middle you have to do some stretching and folding,

and you leave it for forty five minutes. Then you

come back again, you stretch and you fall, and you

leave it at least three times, and then you leave

for a buck rise at least six to seven hours. Hey,

very long, righte. Some people say, hey, just by lah,

just buy I will give you that three D ring it.

You know, when we think about that, right, we like

to eat it, but we don't like the process of

making it, just as many of us like to receive

the benefits of someone caring for me, someone looking out

for me, someone speaking into my life. And I say,

now you go and make Oh yeah, don't wanna two difficula?

I think this one. Only Sarah can do this one.

Only John can do this, not only Ellie can do

We like it, we want to eat it, but to

make it, it's a lot of work. You know, it looks

like there's a lot of time involved. And that's what

discipleship is. Do you know that it's not an instant process.

You're not using instant nies. It takes time. It takes time.

Why this is better than your normal brain? I read

because it's good for your gut health. Okay, it's good

for your gut because there's that fermentation that is very precious. Right,

it feeds into your gut bacterium. So I want to

quickly move on. Now, see I had two, right, I

want to give one to my sister and one for myself. Hey,

by the way, if you're learning, worship is saying yo,

yes and Amen's okay, yeah, let's go, let's practice it.

Someone some at the home say, I can't wait to

say amen on Sunday. Here's your chance. Okay, now let's go.

Think about your own life. Is the character? Is there

resilience in your life that enables you to do you

know what the whole structure is for, so that when

God wants to present to the world. Do you know

The word of God must be present. Do you know?

imparting one's life, the gospel and God's work in such

a way as to see them become mature and equip

followers of Christ committed to doing the same in the

lives of others. Amen, this is what discipleship is. You

are putting in labor, You're putting in your hard work.

You know you want to impart your life. But more

than just your life, you want to impart the Word

of God, the truth of God. What is the end goal?
