You're listening to a message to go from acts church.
-
We hope this message will light up your day.
-
Let's read he Brews chapter ten. Okay, we'll read the
-
entire chapter, but I'm going to break it into two parts.
-
So the first part is this Christ sacrifice once for all. Okay,
-
I'm reading from the New Living Translation. It says this
-
the old system under the law of Moses was only
-
a shadow, a deem preview of the good things to come,
-
not the good things themselves. The sacrificers under that system
-
were repeated again and again year after year, but they
-
were never able to provide perfect cleansing for those who
-
came to worship. If they could have provided perfect cleansing,
-
the sacrificers would have stopped, for the worshippers would have
-
been purified once for all time, and their feelings of
-
guilt would have disappeared. But instead, those sacrificers actually reminded
-
them of their since year after year. For it is
-
not possible for the blood of bulls and gods to
-
take away. Since that is why when Christ came into
-
the world, he said to God, you did not want
-
animal sacrifices or sin offerings, but you have given me
-
a body to offer. You were not pleased with burnt
-
offerings or other offerings for sin. Then I said, look,
-
I have come to do your will, Oh God, as
-
is written about me in the scriptures. First Christ said,
-
you did not want animal sacrifices or sin offerings, or
-
burnt offerings or other offerings for sin, nor will you
-
please with them, though they were required by the law
-
of Moses.
-
Then he said, look, I have come to do your will.
-
He cancels the first covenant in order to put the
-
second into effect. For God's will was for us to
-
be made why by the sacrifice of the body of
-
Jesus Christ, once for all time. Under the old covenant,
-
the priest stands and ministers before the altar day after day,
-
offering the same sacrifices again and again, which can never
-
take away sins. But our high Priest offered himself to
-
God as a single sacrifice for sins good for all time.
-
Then he sat down in the place of honor at
-
God's right hand. There he waits until his enemies are
-
humbled and made a footstool under his feet, for by
-
that one offering he forever made perfect. Those who are
-
being made holy is deeper. It's deep, so read it
-
slowly verse fifteen. And the Holy Spirit also testifies that
-
this is so, for he says, this is a new
-
covenant I will make with my people. On that day,
-
says the Lord, I will put my laws in their hearts,
-
and I will write them on their minds. Then he says,
-
I will never again remember their sins and lawless dates.
-
And when sins have been forgiven, there is no need
-
to offer any more sacrifices.
-
Okay.
-
So again that's the background the letter written to the believers,
-
specifically the Jewish believers, telling them don't go back words, okay.
-
And chapter ten is actually a message about the tabernacle.
-
You'll realize that, you know what the tabernacle is. For
-
the tabernacle is actually a place where they used to
-
bring all the sacrifices, okay, all the animals. So year
-
after year, the high priests or the priests, okay, the
-
priest will go and will sacrifice animals okay, unblemish something,
-
unblemish lamb or unblamished bull or you know, bring.
-
The animal sacrifice.
-
Firstly to cleanse himself because he's presenting the sacrifice, and
-
also to cleanse the people. Okay, but it has to
-
be done year after year after every year.
-
Okay.
-
So Chapter ten actually reminds us, look, you know, the
-
tabernacle really is God saying you cannot come to me
-
unless you bring blood. Okay, unless you bring a sacrifice
-
of an innocent life and animal to cover up your sins. Today,
-
in the New Testament, we are not completely done with
-
blood offerings. Sometimes we think, oh, no longer any blood,
-
or actually you think about it, it is still relevant,
-
but it's not what it was before. It has already transformed,
-
because the scriptures actually tell us that Jesus came to
-
not abolish the laws, not abolish the whole system of
-
bringing offerings and tabernacles, but he has come to fulfill Okay.
-
So the blood is actually in both the Old Testament
-
and the New Testament, something that we must remember, must
-
take in mind. And so when you're studying he Rules
-
chapter ten, where you're looking and he Brews chapter ten.
-
I broke it up into two parts as well. I'm
-
reading the first part and then there's the second part.
-
So again I say this over and over again. The
-
first part is actually establishing the principle. Remember there's always
-
if you read God's word, there's always principles. You've got
-
to draw the principles out, and then the second part
-
is where he's telling you how to practice those principles,
-
which is what I'm going to go into after I
-
established the principle first.
-
Okay, So again, the.
-
First part is what we believe in the second part
-
is how we behave There's always a principle to know
-
and learn, and then there's always a practice in which
-
we must do something cannot not do anything.
-
One Okay, So.
-
We're going to see that Jesus' single sacrifice as the
-
underlying principle that we as believers can have certainty and
-
assurance when we practice this principle. Okay, Jesus' single sacrifice
-
is the principle that we need to know and understand.
-
What is it saying?
-
And so the scripture actually says this, do you know
-
in the past what the sacrifices in the Old Testament
-
remind you of? And actually sacrifice us in the Old
-
Testament from the scripture and you know this, it's actually
-
a reminder that you are a sinner, is the truth,
-
because when you bring the animals to go and sacrifice
-
is like because oh please turne for my sin. I
-
have done something wrong, and every time we offer sacrifice,
-
it's actually a reminder of how sinful we are as people.
-
But if you compare this to the New Testament, and
-
okay today New Testament, like I said last time, no,
-
thank God, we don't have to bring animals, and you
-
know we'll be chopping animals here every week and we
-
are not doing that.
-
We are not doing that.
-
But you know there is something that we do, an
-
ordinance in church that we do that actually reflects that practice.
-
And it's actually called holy communion. Okay, communion. When we
-
partake of communion, Essentially, what you're remembering, you're remembering the
-
sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ. And what does communion
-
remind you of? Does it just merely remind you of
-
your sin? Because for me the reality is yes, not
-
before I partic communion, I'm always like Lord, or give
-
me for a fallen shot of your glory. But the
-
essence of communion is it's actually a reminder of your salvation,
-
not just merely a reminder of how sinful you are,
-
but the reminder of thank you Jesus, because you have
-
done it once and for all, and that's why we
-
have to be obedient to partake of holy communion, the
-
ordinance that God has given us. Okay, So then the
-
question comes he actually, God, what you want? You want
-
sacrifice or you want obedience?
-
Okay.
-
In the Old Testament, there is a portion of scripture
-
in first seven, chapter fifteen. We're all very aware of it.
-
If you're not, it's there. It says that obedience is
-
better than sacrifice. But you think about it. If if
-
you think about it, both obedience and sacrifice are needed.
-
Obedience is definitely better when you compare it to a
-
ritualistic sacrifice that means a secrit which you just do
-
it out of routine. You know, there's no meaning to it.
-
I'm just going to slaughter animals, do it, okay, it's
-
the year after year, year after year, it's going to
-
be the same thing. But when obedience and sacrifice come together,
-
that's powerful. Because the main problem was that God could
-
never get a blurred sacrifice that represented an obedient life.
-
In the Old Testament, no animal could really represent an
-
obedient life. It could be unblemish, it could be a
-
nice cute little lamb, but still it is not an
-
obedient life, and what actually took place in the Old
-
Testament was a repeated.
-
Action year after year.
-
But when Jesus arrived, for the first time blurred or
-
shed not only of some animal falls onto the altar,
-
but for a first time, a person who lived a
-
perfectly obedient life was offered up as sacrifice.
-
That is the difference.
-
Therefore, actually, for the first time, sacrifice and obedience blended,
-
it came together. That made all the difference, because the
-
best part of it is this. You realize that the
-
blood of Jesus doesn't just cover a multitude of sin.
-
That is what the blood of those lambs and bull
-
actually does. It says that it covers your sin. That's
-
why God can pass over. That's actually the understanding. No,
-
it just covers. So what God says is okay, covered
-
for now. But the blurd of Jesus does not just
-
cover sins. It actually says that the blood of Jesus
-
removes sin. That's why in John chapter one, verse twenty nine,
-
it says, blessed is the lamb of God who takes
-
away the sin of the world.
-
Amen.
-
So here is where we I need to teach a
-
little bit on this. God is both justice and mercy.
-
He's both just and merciful. I know sometimes we scratch
-
our head how does this work? Because it's it's quite
-
hard to be just and merciful at the same time,
-
because they're almost contradicting each other. And you know, if
-
you are just means you do what is right, you
-
get reward. You do what is wrong, you get punishment.
-
If you are merciful means whatever you do, carry on,
-
carry on to a certain extent.
-
How do you balance that?
-
Well, it's actually really hard to be both just and
-
merciful except under one circumstance, and that is where an
-
innocent person is prepared to suffer justice on behalf of
-
the guilty. You think about it, there is no other
-
scenario where a person can exercise both justice and mercy,
-
and it is only at that point that sin can
-
be punished and pardoned at the same time. That is
-
why the cross is necessary. That is how we have
-
to know and understand the cross as such. The cross
-
is where both punishment and pardon took place. Because you see,
-
at the cross we see God's perfect justice. The death
-
penalty for sin was carried out, but we also see
-
God's perfect mercy. Basically, what was his mercy that we
-
go free. The guilty actually went free. That is mercy
-
because the innocent had paid the price, that is Jesus Christ.
-
And so if God forgave us without the cross, then
-
he would be merciful, not just. If God just says
-
and everyone forgiven, then he is a merciful God.
-
But then he's not just.
-
And if God refused to forgive sin that means cannot
-
forgive all sin, must be punished, then he is just,
-
but not merciful. But God says, even if you give
-
me your eldest son, no, like how Isaac was presented,
-
it's still not enough, because it's still not satisfactory. He
-
will only be satisfied with his own son. That means
-
when he gives his only son. And so why should
-
the sacrifice of the life of Jesus be more acceptable
-
than all the animals. Some people ask, okay, why he
-
was working fine cows and bulls and lambs.
-
No, why why?
-
Well, because again it is the first sacrifice that had
-
lived in the way God wanted this sacrifice to live.
-
In Micah chapter six, verse eight, it says, you must
-
always be just, you must love mercy, and you must
-
walk humbly with God. And Jesus Christ is the only
-
person and the only living person who has done that all.
-
Throughout his life.
-
He did justly, he loved mercy, and he walked humbly
-
with God. And so Jesus offered God the Father what
-
was wanted, what was essentially needed, and God accepted that
-
sacrifice and can therefore forgive sin. And that is how
-
the whole problem with mankind was resolved. Actually, if you
-
think about it, it's powerful. It's powerful. That is the gospel,
-
and that is what is man. In verse fourteen, when
-
he says this fall by that one offering, he forever
-
made perfect those who are being made holy, you read
-
it slowly because sometimes it's quite I'm boggling. You see,
-
we are actually now called to take possession of that knowledge.
-
This is because we are still being made holy. Sometimes
-
it's I know, we are all work in progress our lives.
-
But the principle is clear that Jesus' sacrifice, once and
-
for all has already made us perfect. We just need
-
to put it into practice now, even though you feel
-
like I don't feel very perfect at this point, where
-
that's why they say practice makes perfect makes sense. Amen,
-
for Christ is to become my substitute. Not only in
-
his death. He doesn't want to be just the substitute
-
in his death. He also wants to be the substitute
-
in our lives. That means the life in which we
-
are living. He is not only to die in my place,
-
he is also to live in my place. Don't just
-
look at Jesus has done and doest died past. No,
-
he doesn't just want to die in your place. He
-
wants to live in your place as well. Question is,
-
are we allowing Christ to live in us instead of
-
us living our own lives for ourselves. It's the question
-
that we have to ask. And this is why discipleship
-
is needed in church, because it's not so much understanding
-
a principle and a concept that Jesus died for us. Hallelujah,
-
Praise to God. We are safe now. We don't have
-
to do anything. We just sit back and relax. This
-
journey of life. Remember, I actually say journey to the end.
-
To the end means that Christ has already made perfect.
-
What is being made holy? Who do you think is
-
being made holy? Bove you and I amen. That is
-
why we have to read the second part of the scripture,
-
and the second part of the scripture, Versus nineteen onwards,
-
starts off in the NLT with this title called a
-
call to persevere. Oh, we see that as a We're like, hah,
-
need to need to persevere, need to tahn. Yes, that
-
is the call right now, And this is what he says.
-
I'm going to read nineteen all the way to thirty nine,
-
and I'm going to break it down for us. Okay,
-
so far, everyone's still okay. And so he says this,
-
and so dear brothers and sisters. And now it starts
-
to get a bit more serious. He's going into this
-
conversation telling them, dear brothers and sisters. And usually when
-
the author addresses it like that, he's actually talking to
-
believe us, dear brethren, brothers and sisus.
-
That means you believe in Jesus.
-
You understand that the sacrifice that He has made for
-
you once and for all. And now I'm going to
-
tell you what you need to do, dear brothers and sisters.
-
We can boldly enter Heaven's most holy place because of the.
-
Blood of Jesus.
-
By his death, Jesus opened a new and life giving
-
way through the curtain into.
-
The most holy place.
-
And since we have a great high priests who rule
-
rule over God's house, let us go right into the
-
presence of God with sincere hearts, fully trusting him.
-
For our guilt.
-
Consciences have been sprinkled with Christ's blood to make us clean,
-
and our bodies have been washed.
-
With pure water. Hallelujah.
-
Let us hold tightly without wavering, to the hope. We
-
are firmed, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.
-
Let us think of ways to motivate one another to
-
acts of love and good works. And let us not
-
neglect our meeting together as some people do, but encourage
-
one another, especially now that the day of his return
-
is drawing near Verse twenty six. Okay, it takes a
-
bit of a turn, dear friends, if we deliberately continue
-
sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth.
-
There is no longer any sacrifice that will cover these sins.
-
There is only the terrible expectation of God's judgment and
-
the raging fire that will consume his enemies. For anyone
-
who refused to obey the law of Moses was put
-
to their without mercy. On the testimony of two or
-
three witnesses. Just think how much worse the punishment will
-
be for those who have trampled on the son of
-
God and have treated the blood of the Covenant, which
-
made us holy, as if it were common and unholy,
-
and have insulted and disdained the Holy Spirit, who brings
-
God's mercy to us. For we know the one who
-
said I will take revenge, I will pay them back.
-
He also said the Lord will judge his own people.
-
It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands
-
of the living God stronger. Think back on those early
-
days when you first learned about Christ. Remember how you
-
remain faithful even though it man terrible suffering. Sometimes you
-
were exposed to public ridicule and were beaten, And sometimes
-
you help others who were suffering the same things. And
-
this is where I got the worse from. You suffered
-
along with those who were thrown into jail. And when
-
all you own was taken from you, you accepted it
-
with John. You knew there were better things waiting for
-
you that will last forever Verse thirty five. So do
-
not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember
-
the great reward it brings you. Patience and endurance is
-
what you need now, so that you will continue to
-
do God's will. Then you will receive all that He
-
has promised for in just a little while. The coming
-
one will come and not delay, and my righteous ones
-
will live by faith. But I will take no pleasure
-
in anyone who turns away. But we are not like
-
those who turn away from God to their own destruction.
-
We are the faithful ones whose souls will be safe. Amen,
-
the Lord bless the reading of his words. Okay, he
-
talked dog death, principle, death, practice, death.
-
All sorts of strong warning.
-
And at the end of it, I love it, he says,
-
But I know you're not like that one in a way.
-
That's why you're saying. I know we are not like
-
those who turn away from God. So he's his hopeful. Okay,
-
whoever this author is, don't turn away from God. I
-
know we are not like that, because I know you're
-
faithful ones. And that's how I'm talking to you all
-
as well right now. But we need to go through
-
the scriptures and we need to understand. So what is
-
this portion talking about again? Take note, it's talking to believers.
-
Now he starts to get a little bit more serious
-
and in this section, and this portion you.
-
Actually see threet things.
-
You can actually break it down to three things, and
-
then got a lot of some things that I will
-
break it down as well.
-
Okay, but the three things is this.
-
You will see an encouragement, but you will also see
-
a severe warning, and you will also see a very
-
practical appeal. There were three things, Okay, they basically what
-
was the author doing. He was trying to encourage people
-
to do something again practicema. So the encouragement is you
-
got to do something. Then he gives them a severe
-
warning of what happens if you don't do it.
-
Okay, thank God for God's word. Right. And then finally
-
there is appeal.
-
He's appealing to them strongly because of he's saying, please
-
try to ton persevere because there will be a reward
-
that comes to those who hangs in there. Okay, so
-
there's the three big teams. Let's break it down. Let's
-
break it down even more.
-
So.
-
What is it saying here is this Christ has done
-
once and for all that needs to be done. But
-
if we are going to enjoy the results of what
-
Jesus has done, then there is a continuous thing that
-
we need to do. He's encouraging us. There is a
-
continuous thing we need to do, you see her. A
-
lot of times our human mind works like this because
-
we always say, Jesus, you have to continuously do something
-
for me, because I trusted in you ones right, A
-
lot of times we are well. I became a believer
-
back in I don't know, nineteen eighty five, Okay, I
-
get my life or Terrence is like that sounds about
-
my time.
-
Or way much earlier.
-
Terrence is much okay, Terrence is part of yeah history, history, okay,
-
but some of us. I once gave my life to you.
-
Now you continuously work in me. That's how we often
-
look at it. But the reality is Jesus is the
-
one that has done everything once and for all. It
-
is we who must have a continuous attitude, a right attitude,
-
towards him.
-
And that is why No.
-
I've reminded us time and time again that when you
-
read and study the Gospels and the scriptures, when they're
-
telling you to do something, no, for God so loved
-
the world and whoever who believes. Again, that word believe
-
is not just believe one time. It's actually a continuous tense,
-
which means that whoever who believes and carry on believing.
-
That means you cannot stop. We are to continuously believe.
-
We cannot say I believe in you when I was fifteen.
-
Now when I'm fifty one, I'm having more doubts. No,
-
you know, when we read the scriptures, it Matthew seven,
-
ask sick. No, it doesn't just say ask one time.
-
It doesn't say sick one time or not one time.
-
It's actually ask and carry on asking until you receive
-
an answer. Seek and carry on seeking until you find
-
your answer. Knock and carry on knocking until the door
-
is open. A lot of times we like to do
-
things one time and expect God to continuously do something.
-
Is the other way around. God has done it all
-
once and for all, capish done. Now we we need
-
to continuously leave it out. That is why the encouragement
-
keeps on saying, let us, let us, let us.
-
Let us keep doing it. And actually, what must we do?
-
You can break it down further, is actually asking you
-
to practice faith, hope and love essentially out I'll explain
-
because the first one says this, let us draw near
-
to God with full assurance of faith. What is our
-
faith rooted in is routed in the fact that Jesus
-
Christ died for us. So our faith is actually rooted
-
in the past. Act you think about it. When we
-
read the Bible. It is a historical book that told
-
us what happened many many years ago, and we believe it.
-
So we believe that Jesus has taken away the sins
-
of the world. And it is true faith that Jesus
-
is making you whole because He has ready made you
-
complete by his grace. And this is the tension of
-
the Christian life, because we will always ask ourselves, am
-
I therefore sinless?
-
The moment I believe straight.
-
Away done the day, call tim one safe, always say
-
forever and ever save. But you see, we know we
-
have everything in Christ, but we are still to keep
-
on taking possession of that belief because you still have
-
to make decisions every day.
-
Right.
-
I don't feel yes, I'm assured that Jesus has made
-
me whole, cleanse me, but I know daily I still
-
need to make choices for him. I know daily sometimes
-
I still make mistakes, I still fall, I still stumble.
-
That is why I still need to confess my sins.
-
Because He is just and faithful too forgive our sins.
-
So it's very important that we know that Christ, yes,
-
he has taken it all once and for all, we
-
are to continuously take possession of it. And then the
-
scripture goes on and say, well you start by being
-
water baptized.
-
Is there?
-
I'm not making this up Verse twenty two to twenty three.
-
It says that through the washing.
-
It always starts with that, because when we as believers
-
start off our believing life with an obedient egg, it's powerful.
-
That's why it says be water baptize, because there is
-
power in obeying God's word.
-
Amen.
-
It shows that someone is full of faith and assured
-
of his faith, because a person who is.
-
Going to be what a baptist is not going to be.
-
I'm not too sure about this, Jesus guy, But I'm
-
just doing because some joker told me and I have
-
to get a shower. It cannot be there because I
-
have always reminded us what the baptism is saying goodbye
-
to our old lives.
-
It's our funeral service.
-
Hastella vista, bye bye old life, welcome new life. And
-
you can't do it unless you are convinced that Jesus
-
that you have put.
-
Your hope and your trust and your faith in Christ Jesus. Amen.
-
And so it starts that way. So everything has been
-
done by Christ. We now what we have is the
-
privilege of excess. We have direct access to God. It
-
is true faith in the past works of all the
-
Jesus has done for us that now we step into
-
a life where God will continuously lead us forward so
-
that we can trust Him daily.
-
Amen.
-
Faith is the first part. The second part is this,
-
let's hold fast, hold fast to one hope of God's
-
promises in the future. So hope is always linked to
-
the future. What is it that every Christian has been
-
believing in and looking forward to since the beginning? If
-
you read the apostle's creed, is there every apostle will
-
say that I believe one day in the return of
-
Jesus Christ. Even two thousand years ago, they are really
-
expecting him to return. What more today, which I think
-
we are much closer than they ever were. But we
-
need to allow our confidence to have an anchor. And
-
our confidence is anchored to not something that is below
-
or under the ocean, is actually anchored to Heaven, and
-
He's anchored to the future, is anchored towards the one
-
day return of Jesus Christ, because one day God is
-
going to come back, and one day God's holiness is
-
going to catch up with each and every one of us.
-
That's when we are perfected in his plan and his
-
purpose and his timing. So hope really is not something
-
that's easy because again, faith is built on the past,
-
very important, but the past has a really happened, so
-
we can grab hold of it much easier. Hope is
-
built on the future, not something that we see. And
-
so sometimes faith, hope and love. You ask me, the
-
weakest of them all is hope. But we need to
-
be hopeful as Christians because our hope is based on
-
something that we are certain will come to pass and
-
something that we know will happen.
-
And then the third thing.
-
Is this, now, let's motivate now, Now, let's motivate each other.
-
Two love.
-
And when do you think love is neither in the past,
-
need in the future. No is needed now. Now, faith, hope,
-
and love can actually also be seen in the context
-
of past, present, and future. So I hope you see
-
this because the scripture now is saying, let's provoke each
-
other to love strong words. No, that word actually means
-
let's irritate each other to love, almost like let's nag
-
each other to love. I know, I joke with the
-
other plans. Now I'm forty five this year, my mother
-
still negts me. I'm forty four. Okay, forty four Okay,
-
my wife corrected me. Okay, I'm younger a little bit,
-
but my mother still next me. I don't think she
-
neagts me out of hatred, no, because really, some days
-
I'm just I can be a bum, but she next me.
-
Until today I believe she neagts me out of love,
-
because really, really love is needed in the present. Love
-
cannot be developed private. There's no way in wish you
-
can love yourself. And that's why love is always something
-
that is seen and experienced in the fellowship. So your
-
concern is not just the wellbeing of yourself, am I
-
being loved? No, is actually the wellbeing of the fellowship.
-
That is why the scripture says, don't neglect meeting at church.
-
That's what the scripture means. Sometimes we love this scripture,
-
but actually where is it coming from wealth, It's coming
-
from this. It says, don't forsake assembling together, because if
-
you're going to help others to be holy. You have
-
got to be there, present in each other's life and
-
constantly nagging and.
-
Provoking each other to love.
-
You don't like it right when your leaders like, hey,
-
come for this, help this person, give this person. Amen,
-
it's like provocation. But that's that is the reality. I'm
-
not making this up. These are the words that I use.
-
Amen.
-
And so because Jesus has done everything he needs to do,
-
we must therefore be confident when we draw here with faith,
-
when we hold fast to hope, and when we stir
-
each other to love. Makes sense. That's what the scriptures
-
are telling us. That's the first part, the encouragement. The
-
second part is this, we now need to persevere because
-
here comes the warning.
-
And the warning is this, if.
-
You treat the sacrifice of Christ the same way as
-
if it was the sacrifice of the Old Testament, then
-
you're putting yourself in danger. Again, I'm not making this up,
-
but that is the reality of it. Because a lot
-
of times we just want things covered. We don't really
-
want things removed, and that's how we continue to live
-
our lives. Everything just's just cover it. But God doesn't
-
just want to stop at covering things up.
-
He wants to remove it, remove it.
-
The truth is, when Jesus was sacrificed on across it
-
was not just to cover our sins temporarily, is to
-
remove our sins when we sincerely repented.
-
You'll believe that. Amen.
-
In other words, it says, if you go on willfully
-
sinning after you found out about the sacrifice Jesus offered.
-
For you, you.
-
Are putting yourself in a very dangerous place because you
-
are actually insulting the Son of God. That's what I'm
-
not making this up. The scripture says this. It says
-
you're disrespecting the heavenly Father. It says you are offending
-
the Holy Spirit. That's what it means by disdaining the
-
Holy Spirit. And those are very strong verbs that I use,
-
because you're putting yourself beyond rich, because that sacrifice is
-
once and for all, which actually just means.
-
There's nothing after that.
-
Sometimes we live like as though the one they didn't
-
quite work, We try again next year, this one didn't
-
quite well, We'll try again. No, that is once and
-
for all, and so we cannot keep putting what Jesus
-
has done once and for all and render it almost
-
useless and worthless.
-
That is what the scripture is telling us.
-
That is why the warning here states that it is
-
a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the
-
living God.
-
We need to have that conscience. Again, I'm not just
-
wanting to scare people. Why do I want to do that.
-
We now have the freedom to choose to do what
-
is right in our lives. Amen.
-
So this stern warning, we are reminded for the need
-
of perseverance to allow the sacrifice that Christ made for
-
us once and for all to work and do its job. Ultimately. Amen,
-
we are coming to an end. I'm drawing to a
-
close because finally he says this that it is a
-
plea to endure. We must both persevere through the tough
-
times and endure through the very and the writer now
-
is reminding us again, Hey, you all remember how it
-
was such a tough time, especially for you early Jewish Christians.
-
You all went through so many difficult moments just to
-
believe no. A lot of you were thrown into prison,
-
that's the context of the scripture. A lot of you
-
had your property taken from you, a lot of you
-
went through so much hardship. Do you remember what it
-
took for you to believe back then into where you
-
are today. But you still can withstand the loss of
-
everything because you knew you had something better. You had
-
something better, and as believers, we all have something better.
-
Our possessions, our life, all these things are temporary because really,
-
one day it will all be taken. There's nothing. You
-
can be a millionaire, you can think. None of your
-
millions with you into heaven. That's the reality of it.
-
You will not take any of your possessions and your belongings,
-
not even your wife or your husband, because marriage actually
-
ends here on earth. It says still death to us,
-
and there is no marriage in heaven. That's the reality
-
of it. I'm not making this up because we are
-
eventually called to be one with God. And there's nothing
-
of this earth in which we can take with us.
-
But there is something where mouth and rust cannot destroy
-
and thieves cannot break in and cannot steal. That is
-
the treasures that we store up in heaven. Amen, and believers,
-
we are therefore to store things in heaven. And so
-
that's what the author is not telling them. Guys, you
-
go to time all the way to the very hand.
-
You have to persevere and and deal all the way
-
to the very end, because that is how you are
-
assured that all the treasures that you are stored up
-
in heaven you will see and you will come to pass.
-
And so the words here is this, you really know.
-
So this is the appeal. There is a reward that
-
is waiting for you, just hanging there, hanging there a
-
little while longer. Don't lose this reward at the late stage.
-
And again another reminder, because he's saying that the voyage
-
is almost over. Actually the author starts to talk a
-
little bit on using sailing terms. Your voyage is almost
-
coming to the end, and the jazz shall live by
-
faith the rescuers on the way, and he will never
-
be late. So don't drift, don't drift away, complete the
-
voyage and en deal right to the end.
-
Amen. That is what the scripture here in Hebrews stand
-
is saying.
-
I know, after reading it and understanding it, suddenly they're
-
going to prison, but not so scary anymore. Right, But
-
we still need to hang on because how do we
-
embark on the geney. I'm going to invite the band up.
-
I'm almost done. That's one last part for us to
-
think about. How do we on the journey John chapter fourteen,
-
verse one to seven. And it's the favorite scripture of
-
many of us preachers, especially during funerals, because he says this,
-
don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust
-
also in me. There is more than enough room in
-
the Father's home. If this were not so, would I
-
have told you that I'm going to prepare a place
-
for you. When everything is ready, I will come and
-
get you so that you will always be with me
-
where I am. And you know the way to where
-
I'm going. And of course Thomas and his big mouth says,
-
I don't know where you're going.
-
I have no idea. And then Jesus says.
-
I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No
-
one can come to the Father except through me. If
-
you had really known me, you would know who my
-
father is. From now on. You do know him and
-
have seen him. You see the first name. And I
-
mentioned this just now earlier as well. And the best
-
name for Christianity has always been Followers of the Way.
-
The Way because it is a road that we need
-
to travel, and the road actually begins with repentance and
-
it ends in heaven. It is a road it's a
-
journey to the end. The response to him, Aaron, that
-
we are going to respond to is the communion him.
-
Let's respond to that, because I want us to take
-
that all in. You see, the problem is.
-
Not those.
-
Who die before they have traveled very far, but those
-
who live and don't travel. Because a lot of times
-
I heard I hear scriptures or people explaining about the
-
thief who was hanging on the cross with Jesus. Remember
-
I shed this before thief hanging on across with Jesus
-
and right there, and then he says, no, God, remember me.
-
And then Jesus says, today you're with me in paradise.
-
And a lot of people tell me that because of
-
how Jesus spoke to this thief, It's okay. All we
-
need to do is just believe and everything is sorted out.
-
You don't have to get water baptize.
-
No.
-
Nowhere does it say, see the thief never got water baptized. Right,
-
still go to heaven. But I'm not worried about someone
-
who God's timing for that person is shot before he
-
has to travel. Do I believe the thief is in
-
paradise with Jesus.
-
I do I do.
-
But I'm more concerned of those who are alive but
-
not traveling on the road. I think that should be
-
our concern, not so much. Let's find what's the minimum,
-
and let's stick to that minimum. No, God is saying, yeah,
-
this teeth, his time is up from faith to the
-
grave almost quite immediately. They didn't have a long life
-
to live. But the rest of us are still here
-
walking this earth. We still have a journey, and so
-
we need to travel. Don't think that the meaning I
-
come to faith, I have arrived a lot of times.
-
That's how we think I get my life to Jesus, Halliujah,
-
Praise God. All heaven't rejoiced I've arrived. No, you have
-
just begun your journey. Yes you have arrived. If sally
-
the Lord takes you homeler and perfection has really caught
-
up with you.
-
But the truth is we.
-
All are still on this journey, and that's why to
-
be salvage from sins in this life, we need everything
-
that God has offered to us. And this includes water baptism,
-
it includes spirit baptism. I teach this, I believe in it.
-
Why do we need to be obedient to His word?
-
Because that is exactly what he says. Obey my word,
-
Obey my teachings. Don't walk through earth thinking that you're
-
on your own. That's why we need the Holy Spirit
-
in us. We need the infeeling of the Holy Spirit.
-
If we don't receive the Holy Holy Spirit, we are
-
in a very vulnerable, vulnerable and dangerous state because God's
-
power and God's purity is needed for us to walk
-
this journey both power and purity. Purity is what the
-
Spirit of God does is continuously. That's what the word
-
sanctification means. God is making us holy day by day. God,
-
I need your purity. It is your purity that will
-
make me hold one day. That's why the Holy the
-
Spirit of God is the only one that has that
-
holy title.
-
You realize that Holy Spirit is a given Holy Spirit.
-
We need God's spirit because not just his purity, but
-
his power. We need God to equip us to walk
-
this Earth is not going to be easy. There's going
-
to be so many challenges that comes your way. Faith, hope,
-
and love is not easyly practice. And you see most religions,
-
the followers have to perfect themselves before being accepted at
-
the end. That's why a lot of times religions other faiths. No,
-
they're always constantly trying to do good, do good, do good,
-
do good. Hopefully all the doing good on my account,
-
sheep the good outweighs the bad. But the difference is
-
Christianity is the only religion where God accepts us as
-
we are in order to help us become who we
-
ought to be. Does that make sense? Because he says
-
you are justified by faith, you are made right by faith.
-
The minute you believe I see you through the lens
-
of my son, I forgive your sins. Now live out
-
the life that I have purpose and plan for you.
-
And we can't live this life by ourselves.
-
We have to live it, not just with Christ who
-
has died for us, but with Christ who now.
-
Lives in me. Let's stand, Father.
-
We thank you for your word, and I pray, Lord God,
-
your word will continue to strengthen us. Your word, Lord God,
-
is shepherd and any tool and instrument we can think of.
-
But Lord, your word is there not to condemn us.
-
But your word is there to tell us, Lord God,
-
that we have a hope and a future because of Lord.
-
When we hang on to You and journey with you,
-
both your purity and Your power will enable us to
-
live in accordance to your plan and your purpose, because
-
we are assured that what will wash away our sins is.
-
The blood of Jesus in our lives.
