The Supply of a Mother's Heart - Pastor Nicole Rainey

It's Mother's Day.

I hope all of the men in here got up and celebrated the mothers in their life, whether it's your mother or your wife.

I hope you celebrated them and made them feel special and if you haven't, this is your reminder.

You still have part of the day left to do something nice.

You can run to Walmart and do something for that special person in your life.

How many of you know that mothers are important?

Amen, they're very important.

They're important not just for your home, not just for children, but they are very important for society.

Mothers have had great impact in all different cultures all over the world, and their influence and the supply that's in their heart.

And here's the thing about a mother that is really interesting.

Did you know?

It's a part of who God is.

We were made in his image.

God took that part of him and he put it in you and that's the supply that comes from heaven, that's in you.

And whether you've had natural children or you're a spiritual mom, there's a supply in your heart that was a part of who God was and is and he took part of who he was and he put that in you.

And it's so special and it's so important.

And here's the other thing I want to say to you you mothers, you're doing a good job, and I know that being a mother can have its very daunting moments.

You can believe lies from the enemy like I'm not doing a good job, like what am I doing wrong?

It looks like this, it looks like that, but I want to tell you, whether you're raising your children or you are a grandma, you are doing a good job, and the thing that you need to know is that you're called to be a mom, and the thing that you need to know is that you're called to be a mom and it's a special calling from God and it's a supply in your heart, and so I just want you to know that this morning, that you are a good mom and you're doing a good job.

So there are so many great mothers that we could look at in the Bible and we're going to highlight a couple of them, but I do want to focus on one specific.

But we're going to look at a few of them this morning and just kind of look at what each mother did and how they sacrificed for their children.

They sacrificed just their own life.

They put trust in God that some of us look at and we read and would think I don't know how they did that.

How many of you ever heard of the mom Jokabed Amen, I know You're like, no, I don't know that name, that's Moses' mom and how many of you read the story about Moses and what his life was like?

So his life didn't start in the palace.

It actually started with his mom being instructed by the Lord in sort of a way.

Then she put together a basket to save his life because they were killing all the young children to save his life, and she placed her infant.

Imagine this.

And here's the thing you need to understand.

This story is literally not just for our entertainment.

It is a true story that really happened and that mother took her infant and put that baby in a basket and then sent it down a river.

Literally.

Try to imagine that we have babies in here.

Some are just a little bit older than what Moses was.

When that happened to him, I could not even imagine just that level of trust of God and that she was able to trust him, to put him in a basket and send him down.

That Nile, no, thank you.

Them in a basket and sent them down.

That Nile.

No, thank you, at least when you're on the outside reading it.

You're like how did you do that?

So what she taught us is a level of trust that I've yet to obtain for my own children.

And here's the other thing too she taught us that letting go and trusting God is more important than the level of protection we could offer our children.

The only thing she did differently is that she trusted him at three months, and ours is like 18 years old.

We're like are you ready to go at 18?

I'm like Moses left at three months.

You ready to go at 18?

I'm like Moses left at three months.

I think our 18 year olds are going to be just fine, right, amen.

So, um, she had a trust in God that it's so inspiring and it inspires us to, um, believe him and and trust him with our children, and that we can Amen All right.

So the next mom I want we want to highlight is Sarah, and this is she was the mother of Isaac, and we know Sarah's story we mentioned it during worship was Sarah wasn't able to have children, she was barren, and God came to her and Abraham and told them you'll have children.

And of course we know Sarah laughed at that.

But we also know that something turned in Sarah because in Hebrews 11, she's in the Hall of Fame.

How many of you want to be on the Hall of Fame?

How many of you believe that one day you're going to get up there and you're going to have a brick with your name on it and you're like Shauna Vandraska believed God for her children, stood on the promise and received the promise for her family and stood on the promise and believed God for her grandchildren.

How many of you know?

I don't know if they really have one, but we can pretend I mean, we don't know.

Just pretend there's one up there and strive for it.

I guess you know.

But she made it to the Hall of Fame and the Bible said it was because she did what she judged God faithful and because she judged him faithful.

What did that do?

It caused her to receive the promise.

There's something about looking back on your life.

I shared a story in first service.

You'll have to go back on YouTube and watch it.

I won't share it again.

Yeah, I won't share it again, but I do have another one of when I was younger.

I was 19 years old and the Lord told me he's like I want you to go to an internship and it was called Teen Mania Ministries.

Who remembers Teen Mania Ministries?

Who remembers Acquire the Fire, youth Conventions?

Yes, okay, there we go.

So Teen Mania Ministries is the one who did Acquire the Fire and I went to an Acquire the Fire and gave my heart back to the Lord and just like radically changed my life.

And then the Lord's like I want you to go be an intern.

Well, I didn't have money to be an intern.

I just didn't have the money to do it.

And I was raising funds and I still didn't have the money to do it.

The day that the Lord told me to go, or, excuse me, the day that it was, um, that you had to go check in for registration.

So I got in my car with my dad and my mom and we drove to Tulsa, oklahoma, didn't have the money and I remember going.

We got to the hotel room and we were settling in and I saw someone in the hallway and this person came up to me and said hey, the Lord told me to give you this check and it was the exact amount of money that I needed to pay the rest of my registration.

I have so many more I could share with you of his faithfulness.

But looking back, of his faithfulness and his provision, what will it do?

You'll look back and you're like my God, why would I even fear the future?

Look what he did for me back then and it was a measly old $1,500.

But at that time $1,500 to a 19-year-old was a million dollars, right.

And so my faith has grown since then.

But you look back and you can look at those instances and you look at what he's done in his provision.

Then all of a sudden you're like, oh God, he did it then.

May not know how, may not know when, but he'll do it again, glory to God.

So Sarah looked back.

It gave her strength to receive the promise.

Who was the promise?

It was her son.

It was her son, hannah, the mother of Samuel.

Her fervent prayers to God led to the birth of Samuel, who became a prophet and a judge of Israel.

In fact, she prayed a prayer that would be prophetic to the coming of our Savior, and it's in 1 Samuel, chapter 2.

Highly recommend reading that.

It's a great story of her faithfulness to stay in the temple.

Her heart cried out.

She said it poured her heart out unto God and the prophet saw her and he gave her a promise that she would have a child.

And the thing that's so interesting we won't go into this so far, but the thing that's interesting every time there was a woman who was barren, that wanted children and poured her heart out and wanted that, she was always gifted with a child.

Every single time, out of the mouth of two or three witnesses, you can be established to say that it is God's will.

If it's a desire of yours, he'll give you that desire.

So this woman, and go read that prophetic word.

We won't read it this morning, we don't have time, but she prophesied Jesus's birth into the earth.

Her prayer life did that.

It's a fantastic prayer.

It's a and it's prophetic.

I love it and it's good to go back and read all that.

Um, let's look at um Eve.

It's kind of a bummer, poor Eve.

I mean you know, uh, eve's disobedience opened the door and her children, one of them killed him.

So it's not a great story, but the takeaway from it I'm sure that after all that happened, eve was a wonderful mother and she did great things.

We don't have a lot of stories about Eve, but the one major story we have is that she caused mankind to fail and one of her children killed the other child.

So our takeaway from that is don't be like Eve's disobedience I'm sure in her future she was a good mom, but it is good to look.

It is good to look at that and see what that door of disobedience did to her children.

And it's not to put fear in you and it's not to be like oh my God, you know, I don't want to miss it and I don't ever want to mess up because my children are going to kill each other.

I'm like well, they probably already tried to do that anyway behind your back.

But there is something to say to just habitual disobedience and you know, god's given us the gift of repentance.

It is a gift I taught on that and it's part of the new covenant that we have and that you can repent.

And so look at Eve.

Even though it's not the greatest you know story that we want to look back on.

And poor Eve, her story in heaven's going to be like hey, eve, remember that time when you sinned and all of mankind fell?

And she's going to be like can everyone just let it go?

Just let it go, mary.

Mary's a great one.

Mary was highly favored of God, and the thing I love about Mary is that God chose her to carry Jesus.

I mean, what an amazing opportunity.

And you know, like you're the mother of the Savior of the world, like that's fantastic.

And you're the mother of the Savior of the world, that's fantastic.

But the thing that was really interesting and neat about Mary is that God chose her because he could trust her.

Why do you think God trusted Mary?

I personally think God trusted Mary because when he came to her and he said I believe he watched her life.

But I also believe that when he came to her and said you know, these are my instructions You're going to get pregnant, you won't be with a man, it's going to be supernatural and this is what his life is going to look like and this is what you need to do.

And the Bible says that she pondered on those things.

She pondered those things in her heart.

Notice what Mary didn't do.

She didn't be like, oh my God, text the girls.

Where's my girls?

We're going for coffee.

They need to know everything that's going to happen.

And then you sit down for coffee and you're like listen, I had a vision from God.

I'm going to be the mother of the Savior of the world.

I'm going to get pregnant.

It's beautiful, it's like supernatural.

Here's what his life is going to be like.

His is fantastic.

Your kids suck.

So that's not what happened.

But the Bible says that God trusted her because she took those things and she was private with it and she kept it to herself and in fact, it said that she pondered on those things.

I believe Mary just kept looking at that.

Thank you Lord.

Thank you Lord.

I just look at that.

Look at the plan.

She looked at the plan, she pondered on the plan.

She didn't expose the plan.

The plan was going to expose itself on its all, on its own, but Mary just kept looking at that plan in her heart.

And you know what she did.

She allowed God to do what he needed to do and he trusted her with the one of the greatest plans that we have.

So Mary, mary was a good one because he could trust her.

She was a devout woman and God trusted her.

Another woman is my mother.

She's not able to be with me this morning, but I have a great mom.

A lot of stories I could tell you of, just like her faithfulness to stand on the promise.

But one in particular that came up in my heart was just when I was a newborn.

We never had ministers in the family.

My mom didn't grow up in church.

Her mom and her grandma didn't grow up in church.

No one grew up in church.

It wasn't a church people.

We weren't church people on my mom's side of the family and she would have dreams.

She had two dreams about me and it was like where the enemy was trying to kill me and they were very, very vivid dreams and it scared her.

In the beginning she was able to kind of get around and talk, you know, like some spiritual women, and talk to them and learn how to pray from me so that the devil wouldn't take my life.

And little did she know that there was a call of God on my life, little did she know that I would be standing here preaching the gospel.

And so you know, she did the best she could and I tell people she knew how to plead the blood.

She knew how to plead the blood.

I'm so thankful for mothers and grandmothers who teach their children and their grandchildren.

Just plead the blood, I plead the blood.

You'm so thankful for mothers and grandmothers who teach their children and their grandchildren.

Just plead the blood, I plead the blood.

You don't even have to, I mean, find out what it means, but you don't even have to know.

Just be like I plead the blood.

I don't even know, but I'm pleading that blood.

The blood of what?

The blood of Jesus.

It's so powerful and my mom understood that, and children, and I believe firmly that her words and her words of faith of knowing how to pray against the enemy's plans and his devices and pleading the blood over her children, my brother and my sister, had kept us all.

This time.

I firmly believe that.

So praise the Lord.

So we're going to look at real quick and we're going to kind of get through this pretty quick.

But we're going to look at the Shunammite woman.

How many of you are familiar with that story?

It's a great story and we're going to start here in 2 Kings 4.

We'll start with verse 8.

And it says and it fell on that day that Elijah passed to Shunamm, where it was, was a great woman and she constrained him to eat.

And so it was, and as often as he passed by he turned in thither to eat I'm going to start talking like that thither.

So really, really interesting passage.

And just I know you guys know this, but the Old Testament, not everyone had the Holy Spirit.

If you had, you could say it like this common people didn't have the Holy Spirit.

And even the Holy Spirit when he rested upon people, it was a rest.

He didn't live inside of them, he rested upon them and he would rest upon the prophet, the priest and the kings.

Well, we have Elijah here, who's a prophet.

And look what this woman did.

It said she constrained him.

How did she constrain him?

With food?

Listen, hospitality got the anointing into her home.

Women, we are called to be hospitable.

This woman gave that man bread and he's like that was really good, I'm coming back Fed him some food, but what was she looking for?

She was looking for the presence of God and she knew.

And the more time she spent with him, she realized this man is truly a man of God and he truly has the presence of God on him.

And then she says and then she goes on to say in verse nine it says and now she said to her husband.

Behold, I perceive this is a holy man of God which passes us continually.

Let us verse 10, don't you like that?

She was like you know what we're going to do.

I have an idea, but we're going to do it.

Let us make an extra room, let us make a chamber.

I pray on the wall, and let us set for him a bed, a table and a stool and a candlestick.

And it shall be.

When he comes he will turn him thither.

So, basically, what happened is this woman, who was hungry for the presence of God, spent time around the presence and guess what?

She guess what happened her?

She wanted more, she wanted to be more around that presence.

You know what?

I'm guessing?

That she realized and acknowledged man, something's different.

When we get around this man, when we get around what's on him?

Our marriage gets, gets better.

I mean, I liked you 40% of the time before, but now I like you 90% of the time.

Our land looks better, the things in our home there's like a flow, there's a peace in our home.

Well, instead of just once in a while coming to the house, guess what I'm going to do?

I'm going to make it to where it's, where.

He can't tell me no, oh no, I made a room for you and he's like I feel obligated now.

So this woman made a room for him to where it was like he couldn't tell her no, what is that?

That's hunger.

And the other thing that it did to her is it cost her money and it cost her time.

It took money and time to make this chamber.

You know what that is.

That's hunger.

You know what also, that is.

It's hunger to be around the presence.

And here's the thing too there's a level of anointing that it will cost you to be in.

It'll cost you your time and it'll cost you your finances.

How many of you?

It costs you to drive out here.

I know people who've hit deer on the way.

It costs you to hit that deer.

It costs you to get to this church.

It will cost you to get to certain meetings.

But you want to know something.

They were willing to pay the price.

She was willing to pay a price to build a room in her home, that where the presence of God is, where she could go in.

And don't you know?

That presence just lingered in there and she went in there and prayed prayers and heard from God and got in that presence and it started to affect her life and it started to affect her body and it affected how she talked and it affected how she saw things and saw people, because that presence lingered in that room, praise the Lord.

So she was hungry for it.

She built a room.

What was that room?

It was a prayer room.

It was a place for communion with the Holy Spirit.

So, second Kings, we'll start with.

And so um he.

So Elijah stayed with him.

He had his servant, gehazi.

Let's, let's look at verse 11.

And it fell on that day that they came and they turned into the chamber and he said to Gehazi, his servant call her, call the Shunammite woman.

And she stood before him and he said unto her say now unto her, behold, thou hast been very careful with us, with all this care.

What shall be done for you?

What shall be done for you?

Do you want me to speak to the king?

I'll speak to the king on your behalf.

I'll talk to really important people.

I mean, you're like well, that's a temptation, who could I meet?

I could meet some important people.

This guy has some connections.

One thing that's also interesting about this particular passage is she honored God so much that he came to her and said what can I do for you?

There was so much honor in her heart towards the presence of God, there was so much honor in her heart toward the move of the Holy Spirit that she didn't even have to go to him and make a request.

He came to her and he was like I'm going to do something for you.

He came to her and he was like I'm going to do something for you, let me just bless your socks off.

And here's the other thing too Her response to this.

I said this in first service.

I don't feel like this was like her little false humility response.

I truly believe this was her true, heartfelt response.

She's like my people are sufficient, I am satisfied with where I'm at.

I believe that woman was so satisfied.

But you know what he said.

He heard Gehazi.

I told him she's like well, she goes without a kid.

And he was like what?

No children.

He turned and looked at her and he was like listen, by this time next year you'll have a son, you will have a child.

And you know what she said Don't lie to me.

Now she kind of gets a little like mm-mm, don't lie to me, because maybe deep down in her heart little did she know that that was a desire in her heart and maybe, just like with a disappointment, just kind of let it go and maybe just said well, you know what, it's fine, I don't need to have children.

But this man saw a need and he spoke into her life and spoke life to that need.

And that's what the presence of God will do for you.

It will see needs in your life.

The word of God, god in heaven, will see needs in your life.

God in heaven will see needs in your life and it will speak life to those needs.

It will speak solutions to the needs in your life.

Aren't you thankful, aren't you so thankful that, as much as no matter how smart you are, no matter how gifted you are, that there are things in your life you're going to face you can't figure out, but the presence of God could come in and fix it in five seconds.

Praise God for that.

So she has this child, says in verse 17,.

And the woman conceived and bore a son at that season, and Elijah said unto her according to the time of life.

So she received her promise, just like Sarah received her promise, amen.

And then in verse 18, the child grew and it fell on a day that he went out to his father to help with the reapers.

So he was going out to help his dad work.

His dad was teaching him to work, it's important.

And then he said unto his father my head, my head, it hurts.

Some theologians believe he had like a heat stroke.

You know, I mean, we could all identify with that.

You get out in the sun too long, you get like a headache.

So he had like a heat stroke.

And, of course, the famous response to a child being hurt, the father's famous response take him to his mother, his mother will know what to do, mother, his mother will know what to do.

And so they carry this young boy to his mother and place him on her lap.

And then it says here in verse 19, they had taken him and brought him to his mother and he sat on her knees till noon so I'm guessing, morning till noon, and then he passed away.

So here's a story, here's the promise of God sitting in her lap.

And he's now he's gone.

The thing that we're going to look at here as we kind of start to finish up, is that that was not the end for her.

So she received her promise.

Here's the thing Just because you receive your promise doesn't mean that the enemy's gonna he's not gonna try to come in and take your promise.

Moms, we contend for the faith.

We contend for things for our children.

There are things that God will put in your heart for your children, and it's not just to sit idly by and just be like, well, okay, sirah, surah, surah, whatever will happen will be, will be no.

We look at those things, we ponder on them, we take them into our prayer rooms and we just continually lift them up to the Lord.

You take your children's name.

I do this so often that you take your children's name and I'll say, lord, I lift Bo into that place.

You've spoken this to me.

You've said this to me.

I believe this for his life, father, I plead the blood.

I speak this scripture over him.

I speak this over him.

I believe his life is this.

I believe his life is that.

What are we doing?

Contending, you contend for them and, dad, you do that too.

But there's something about a mama.

We'll get in there and I swear to God, devil, you will not mess with my kids.

I will.

I will Listen.

I'm not going to fight him flesh and blood, but like there's something in me, I'm like I'm going to fight you.

I'm going to fight you, I'm going to don't mess with my children, right, moms?

Amen, come on.

Yes, that's how we get and that's how you should get.

And so you, you, you go in there and you handle the enemy by the power of God and by the supply of the spirit.

You get in that place and you start dealing with the devil, and then you start taking the promises and you start speaking them over your children, and then you hang on to them and you don't let go of them and, no matter what it looks like, no matter what it seems, you hang on to the promises of God.

This woman knew how to contend and we can see that later on in here, verse 21,.

She got up.

What did she do?

She laid him in the presence.

She laid him where the presence of God lingered.

Why?

Because she knew that was her answer.

She knew getting him to a place where the presence of God was, ooh, this will bring life to my children.

This will bring life to my child, because everything within her, all of her resources, had failed.

She got to the end of who she was, and that's what happens in our life.

We'll get to the end of who we are.

And when we get to the end of who she was and that's what happens in our life We'll get to the end of who we are.

And when we get to the end of who we are, what happens?

Now we get to the beginning of who he is.

Glory to God, the God of the impossible, the God of miracles, the God of a great supply.

He's the great provider.

He'll meet those needs.

He'll go to those places where you can't bring life.

But he could breathe life into a situation that looks dead and that has been spoken dead.

He can bring life to it.

And that woman laid her baby on that bed and didn't even blink.

She was like.

She looked at her husband.

Let me go on down here.

She saddled up a donkey and said to her servant drive, oh, excuse me, lay back up in verse 23.

Wherefore wilt thou go to him today?

It is new moon or a new Sabbath, and she said it is well.

So she looked at her husband and she was like I'm going, I'm going.

And her husband's like God bless him.

You know, he's just trying to help her.

He's like our son's died.

I'm emotional.

I'm emotional.

And he was like this isn't the right time.

The timing's off.

This isn't normally when we go.

And she looked at him and she said it is well Like, don't mess with me.

And then she looked at the servant.

You know what she said in the next verse.

She saddled up her donkey drive.

And this was her instructions to the servant you drive, you go forward and you don't back off for nothing, unless I tell you Don't slow down, move forward.

Why?

Because I'm getting to the man of God and he will do something for me.

I'm telling you what.

There is something about that kind of faith that just gets into the man.

God is so moved by it.

And it's not arrogance.

You don't go in there and be like you're going to do this for me.

It's not about that.

It's like this is the promise, my promise.

It looks like it's gone, but I know I can still have it.

And then the next verse says that she went, gehazi and Elijah saw her and they're like wait a minute, what's up with that?

Gehazi, go out and check on her, ask her is everything okay with your husband?

Is everything okay with you?

Is everything okay with your children?

And you know what.

Gehazi went out and asked her and she said it is well, excuse me, I'm getting to the prophet and I don't know what the protocol was, but I'm guessing she had to go through Gehazi before she could get to the prophet.

And you know what that mom said I don't really care about your policy, I don't care about your protocol.

It get out of my way.

I'm getting through this crowd and I'm getting to the prophet of God because I need something for my kid.

And what did she do?

The next verse says she went and she threw herself at his feet.

That is something she had been doing for months and months and months and months.

Is sitting at the feet in the presence of God.

Mary understood it.

Mary understood about staying at the feet of Jesus, because Mary was in a room and she could have very well heard the message from the back of the room, but that just wasn't good enough for her.

She didn't want to just hear his words, she wanted to be near him, she wanted to be at his feet.

The Shunammite woman understood that, and so much so that Gehazi looked and he said get away from him.

What are you doing?

And God bless Elijah, thank you, god.

He was like no, there's something wrong.

She's vexed.

The Lord hasn't told me anything about her situation, but there is something wrong and I've got the answer.

I've got the answer.

And so she explains.

And in fact, what did she say?

Did you promise me a kid?

Hey, did you promise me a kid?

Did you lie to me?

And what did Elijah do?

He got up.

It didn't make him, it didn't bother him that she questioned.

That.

It was not an accusation, it was really a move by faith, it was a declaration like you wouldn't lie to me, but it looks like you did.

And my son has died.

And what did he do?

He got up, he gave instructions to Gehazi and Elijah got up and he went to her son and he laid on him and he breathed on him life.

And guess what happened?

Her son lived.

Her son got up and he lived.

But what would have happened if she would have never built that room?

What is that room?

Again, it's a prayer room and in that room you decorate the walls with words of faith.

That woman decorated that room with natural things.

It was very specific what she put in there.

She put a bed, she put a table, she put a candlestick.

But you go in that room and you take your words and you, you paint the walls with words of faith for your family.

Moms, you go in those rooms and you paint.

You paint the walls with the supply of your heart and with the words that come out of your mouth.

You take promises of God and you paint the walls and you begin to make declarations like things like my children shall live and not die and they'll declare the works of the Lord.

And then what happens is you're building now that room and those words on that wall.

You know what it does.

It affects not just your children, but the generations to come.

It affects every generation.

So, moms, I want to encourage you.

Number one, you're doing a good job.

Look at this mom back here.

You're doing a good job.

You're in a fun season.

Whether you know that or not, you're doing a good job.

Look at this mom back here.

You're doing a good job.

You're in a fun season.

Whether you know that or not, you're in a great season.

You're doing a good job.

And I also want to encourage you this morning build those rooms of prayer for your children, because they're not just for your children, they're not just for your family, but they're for all the generations that will come after that, all the generations that will come after that.
