What Will Your Story Be When the Giant Calls?

But let's go over to 1 Samuel, chapter 17.

Go and talk about David.

Anyone know anything about David?

David was one of the great kings of Israel.

Here's the interesting thing about David.

We first get introduced to David Number one.

It's interesting.

David was a shepherd.

His father had eight sons and David was the youngest of those sons.

And the prophet Samuel, god, told him to go pick a new king, anoint a new king.

Saul was the king and Saul had done some things that he was no longer going to be able to stay king because of what he'd done before God and some things he was doing.

So God sent Samuel to Jesse's house, david's dad, and said go, anoint one of his sons king, and remember when he got there.

He said he gets there and he goes oh, it's this one.

And God says no, and this one, this one.

Finally, he goes through all the boys that are there and he says I haven't found one.

He says do you have any more sons?

And they say well, there is one.

He says he's the youngest and he's out watching the sheep and he says send and bring him.

And he brought him.

And then God said this is the one.

He anointed him to be king.

So, right, he pours the oil upon him.

And so it wasn't just the oil.

But when they anointed in the Old Testament, it was an anointing of the Holy Spirit for him to do what he'd been called to do.

So remember, in the Old Testament, the only people who were anointed were prophets, priests and kings.

Aren't you glad you live in the New Testament, because, as a believer, we can be anointed.

We can all be anointed by the Holy Spirit.

And so here's the amazing thing he gets anointed and I'm sure there was a celebration and everyone's excited and he's like I'm going to be the next king.

He goes what should I do now, dad?

And he goes go back and watch the sheep.

How would you like to know you're going to be the next king, but you're told just go back out and watch the sheep.

Isn't that interesting that David just was like, okay, most of us would be like dad, no, I'm going to be king, I'm not doing that anymore.

But he's just obedient, wouldn't watch the sheep.

And we know David learned some things out watching the sheep.

I know you can learn some things where you're at until you get where you're going.

Amen.

I think of some of the jobs I had in life.

Man, I had some bad jobs.

Anyone else have some bad jobs, tough jobs, rough jobs.

I don't know that there are that many of those jobs around anymore for our young people.

Man, there used to be some bad jobs that people do.

And I remember, you know, throwing hay.

You know no one's really throwing hay anymore as a young kid Big bales and everything throwing hay.

I remember working out in Arizona.

I thought I was going to do one job and I arrived and they had another job for me and it was pretty miserable that summer.

But you just do it.

Amen.

David learned some things out there in the fields, out in the pasture with the sheep.

I learned some things doing some of my jobs.

I remember we started a job one time and we knew where we were started and we knew where we were going to end and we knew it was going to be a few months until we got to where it would end and it was hot.

So what was it?

The summer of 93?

Is that when the big floods happened around here, 93?

So summer of 93, while it was raining here, I was in the southeast part of the country and it was a great drought, in fact I think that whole summer I remember it raining.

One time I was in Georgia, north Carolina, south Carolina, southern Virginia and Northern Florida and part of our job we had to put things into the ground and one of the jobs is we had these covers that had to go over this thing we were doing and so you had a 12-inch spike, you know, like a timber spike that you'd use for like landscape timbers.

So we had a 12-inch spike and a sledgehammer, you know, and we'd have to drive three of those into the ground over each of these things we put in.

And we put hundreds of them in and I remember getting there and the ground's so hard.

I remember I took one of those spikes and I went bam and it bounced back up at me.

And I went bam and it bounced back up at me and I looked at the guys working with me.

He goes well, it's going to take a while.

I'm like all right, hey man.

I remember that summer because we'd hand pound these things in the ground and then I'd get on my hands and knees, I'd put this metal cap on and I'd pound three of those around it.

And you do that all day In Georgia or South Carolina, north Carolina, in July, and you do that for 10 hours in a day.

That wasn't a fun job.

I enjoyed the paychecks, it did pay pretty well.

But right, what do you learn?

You learn some things about hard work.

You learn some things about perseverance.

You learn some things about pushing through.

Why?

Because you could get to a job that's hard and just be like I quit.

I'm not doing that.

You see videos all the time.

I saw a video the other day.

This girl was in her car ranting about what her boss asked her to do and she's like I told him I'm not doing that, I quit, okay, but you learn something through perseverance.

How many of you think David learned something through being alone out there?

He learned something with his time out there.

He'd spend time praising God.

He'd spend time talking to God.

He learned something about perseverance.

He learned something about pushing through.

So now we get to 1 Samuel 17 here in verse 1, and we see a story unfolding between the Philistines and the Israelites, and it says the Philistines had gathered their armies together to battle and were gathered there at Soka, which belongs to Judah.

They encamp between Soka and Ezekiel in Ephesus, and it says Saul, who was the king and the men of Israel were gathered together.

They, encamped in the Valley of Elah, drew up in battle against the Philistines.

The Philistines stood on a mountain on one side, israel stood on a mountain on the other side, with the valley between them.

So can you picture this?

It's almost out of a movie.

You've got a great army on this hill, a great army on this hill, a valley in between them, and they're getting ready to rumble.

There's going to be a fight, there's going to be something.

Go on.

And there they are, and so they don't fight.

What happens?

We get to verse four.

A champion went out from the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, from Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.

People will talk about what that was.

Most places we see Goliath's height, anywhere from like eight to nine feet to maybe ten feet.

So big, had a bronze helmet on his head, arm with a coat of mail right.

Tells all about his armor, tells how big his spear was there in verse 7, talks about his shield, his sword, how much everything weighed right.

In verse 8 says he, goliath, stood and cried out to the armies of Israel, said why have you come out to line up for battle.

Am I not a Philistine?

You, the servants of Saul, choose a man for yourself.

Let him come out to line up for battle.

Am I not a Philistine?

You, the servants of Saul, choose a man for yourself.

Let him come down to me and if he's able to fight and kill me, then you win the whole battle.

We'll be your servants, but if I prevail against him and kill him, then you'll be our servants and serve us.

Now look at what he says in verse 10.

This is where Goliath really got himself into trouble.

Whether he knew it or not, he said I defy the armies of Israel this day, give me a man that we may fight together.

So right, he's not just coming against a man, not just against a king.

He's coming against a nation that is a godly nation that's in covenant with God.

Look at verse 11.

When Saul and all Israel heard these words of Philistine, they were dismayed and greatly afraid.

So just imagine, right, the kids went and saw David the play there in Branson when they went to champions.

Just imagine you're there and you got the two armies.

You're like all right, we're going to go to battle.

And then they send this giant out and he says well, I'll make this real easy.

You send one guy to fight me, I'll go fight him.

He beats me.

You win, I beat him.

We win.

Now, saul, what do we know about King Saul?

He was a big guy.

In fact, the Bible tells us he stood head taller than everyone else, but he wasn't as big as Goliath.

So when they heard this, they were all afraid.

Now notice right, who's he talking to Soldiers?

How many soldiers shouldn't be afraid of stuff like this?

But they all afraid.

Now notice right, who's he talking to Soldiers?

How many soldiers shouldn't be afraid of stuff like this?

But they were afraid.

Now what happens, david?

Right, we're not going to read it all.

But David comes up because back then sometimes your family would send food and rations to you because the army maybe wasn't taking care of you well.

And so just imagine David's at home and his mom says here I made some biscuits for your brother.

Just take them up to the battle up there, see how it's going.

And so David shows up bringing his brothers.

He had three of his older brothers were there.

And so he goes up to take them their rations.

And in verse 20, it says David rose early in the morning, left the sheep with the keepers.

What's that, tell you?

David had responsibility.

How many know?

He didn't just leave the sheep out in the field.

He found someone else to watch him, took the things and went as his dad had commanded him, came to the camp as the army was going out to fight and shouting for battle, for the philistines had drawn up in battle.

Ray uh, army against army.

So what we know is, if you go read ahead, we kind of skipped over Goliath.

Challenging them happened every day twice a day, morning and night, for 40 days.

You ever put up with something?

For 40 days, how?

40 days, a long time, every day.

Here's what would happen they get up.

Goliath would get up.

He'd pound his shield.

He'd say send someone out, I'll kill them.

And they'd all run back to their tent scared.

And they'd sit in their tent scared.

And then, every night, before they went to bed, how did you like this bedtime story?

Goliath, come out.

It was a nightmare.

I'm going to kill you.

Do you think they were sleeping well at night?

No, number one, they just got threatened before they went to bed.

Number two they knew when they woke up he was going to threaten them again.

Do you think they were eating.

Very well, I bet you those boys were sick to their stomach, thinking we're going to die.

This big guy's going to kill us.

Forty days that happened until a young man shows up and he sees them.

Now here's what's interesting, right?

They would get up every day and put on all their uniform, put on their helmet, put on their chest protector, put on their get their sword on, get their shield on hey, let's go, let's go to battle.

And every day Goliath would threaten them.

And then every day they'd go back scared.

Do you think they showed up really ready for battle?

Or do you think they showed up knees knocking, scared, let's give a battle cry, hey, let's go, kill him.

Man, they weren't ready.

They weren't ready for Goliath.

They didn't want any part of Goliath, but they just went through the motions.

I know you can just go through the motions of faith and you're not really ready to face the enemy, you're not really ready to face a trial, you're not really ready to face a test.

Oh, you're saying the things you should say, you're kind of doing the things you should do, right, but you don't have that something in your voice that faith really brings.

We're about to see that real faith, right, faith that rises up on the inside from a word they heard from God, sounds different than just let's go fight.

So here it is 40 days they're doing this.

It is 40 days, they're doing this.

David shows up, right.

So here's the amazing thing they talk about right down in verse 25.

They would go back to their tent scared.

Oh, let's go up to verse 24, sorry.

So here's what's interesting.

This is all the men of israel, when they saw the man, fled from him and were dreadfully afraid.

They didn't just line up and be like let's fight him.

Okay, he's tough, let's go back to our tents.

They scattered back to their tents.

If it uses the word dreadfully afraid, have you ever been dreadfully afraid of something?

You weren't just like oh, I'm kind of scared of that.

You shrieked like a little girl and you ran, ah, and you went running.

You were dreadfully afraid of something.

These grown men that were in the army did that every day.

David saw it.

Can you imagine?

David walks up and he sees it.

He's like what is wrong with you guys?

I thought this was an army.

You guys acting like a bunch of babies.

So verse 25, they're sitting in the tent scared.

They're like, hey, can I tell you something?

Have you seen this man who's come up?

They're like, yeah, 40 days, twice a day.

I've seen him.

He's big, right, he says, surely he's come up to defy Israel and it shall be that the man who kills him, the king, will give great riches, will give him his daughter, his father's house will be exempt from taxes.

So what are they doing?

They're trying to convince one of their friends to go fight him.

They said I know he's big and everything, but Truman, I think you can take him, because if you can take him, truman, the king's going to give you a lot of money.

You can marry one of his daughters, and if you marry one of his daughters right now, you're royalty.

Now, your children how many of you know?

Your children will be taken care of Because they're royalty and you never have to pay taxes again.

Children will be taken care of because they're royalty and you never have to pay taxes again.

I think you should do it.

Then, what that guy says he's like I think you should do it.

No, no, do you hear what I said?

Look at all this going to happen.

If you do this, this will be good.

I think you should go do this.

Well, they're trying to talk someone in to go do it.

Why?

Because if you go do it then I don't have to.

I know the fight of faith is yours to fight.

No one's going to come fight your fight of faith for you, and if you sit scared in the tent, you'll never get where God wants you to go.

I know there are blessings on the other side of your battle, the other side of your test, the other side of your trial.

Better than those, yes, eternal blessings, blessings that will completely change everything, amen, amen.

And so David hears them saying that.

David's like okay, right, I'll go do it.

His brothers get mad.

Why are you even here?

Shouldn't you be out with the sheep, brian?

Just older brother stuff.

I know older brothers don't want their little brother out doing them.

I'll tell the story because he's not here.

So my brother, kevin, right, kent, kevin, oldest of us five, and Kevin in high school they had a woodworking class and he made himself a custom ping pong paddle.

It was beautiful, right.

He finished the wood and the handle, I think, was like oak and it was a different color than the wood around and he made it so it fit perfectly his hand.

It had a little finger like where he could put his finger on it, little grooves in it.

And we were playing ping pong one day in the basement I was probably about Olive's age, you know, 11, 12.

And for the first time in my life I beat him.

Well, little brother just beat big brother.

And as I'm getting ready to celebrate my victory, a fancy wood paddle flies by my head and shatters on the basement wall next to me.

When we sold that house, that dent was still in that wall.

Right, big brother wasn't happy with his little brother.

David's brothers weren't happy with him.

You should know your place.

I know David understood his place in God.

His place wasn't just where he was in the pecking order.

He understood who he was as a covenant child of God.

And so David's like no, I'll go do it.

So they take him to the king.

So here we go, verse 31.

1 Samuel 17, verse 31.

1 Samuel 17:31

Now when the words which David spoke were heard that he could do it, they reported them to King Saul.

The king sent for him.

David said to the king let no man's heart fail because of him, because of this giant.

Your servant will go and fight with this Philistine man.

I'm telling you there's something about faith that puts something in your voice.

Pastor Mark says that faith will take the wine out of your voice.

All of a sudden, something just comes out.

You're like, man, I'll go, don't anyone.

Hey, y'all don't be afraid of this fella, I'll go take care of him.

So the king looks at him and he thinks boy, I don't know, everyone had been looking for 40 days for someone to raise their hand.

For 40 days they've been waiting for someone to put their hand up.

And now this little boy, this young man, strolls into camp, not even in the army, and he puts his hand up.

They're like okay, this sounds good, okay, you go do it.

But then they're like I don't know, right.

And so Saul.

Saul looks at it Right and says verse 33, you're not able to go against this Philistine fight with him.

You're just a youth, and he's a man of war from his youth.

He says you're just, you're just a shepherd boy, and he's been killing people since he was your age.

Look at verse 34, though.

But, david, I know faith speaks, right, mark 11, faith speaks to the mountain.

Jesus says you'll have whatsoever you say there in Mark 11, 23 and 24, faith speaks, faith says something.

If you're not saying anything, then you're not really in faith.

David had faith, right, and David said something to Saul.

He says your servant used to keep his father's sheep.

When a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, I went out.

After it struck it, delivered it, delivered the lamb from its mouth and when it rose against me I caught it by its beard and struck and killed it.

Your servant has killed both a lion and a bear.

This uncircumcised Philistine it's important use of language there Uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.

So David brings it back and he says look, this isn't just a natural fight, this is a supernatural fight.

He says he's uncircumcised.

What's he mean when he says he's uncircumcised?

He's not part of the covenant that we have with God.

I have a covenant with God.

He doesn't have a covenant with God.

So guess what?

I'm not fighting the same fight Goliath is fighting.

Because guess what In the natural, david would have lost If you just looked at it naturally, like if you've ever watched a boxing match, right, and they put up here's this fighter, here's this fighter.

And they tell you how much he weighs and how tall he is and how far his reach is, and all these different things.

You'd look at those numbers and you'd say, well, david's going to lose.

There's no way he could win.

Goliath has reach, goliath has strength.

Goliath has height.

Goliath has all this, he's more skilled.

But David's like I'm not going to fight you based on my skill, I'm fighting you based on my God and who he is.

The greater is he that's in me than he that's in the world.

And so what's interesting is he brings back that covenant language uncircumcised.

And then he says he didn't just defy me or the king.

He said he defied my God, the armies of the living God.

So really, goliath, whether he knew it or not, picked a fight with God, and not just Saul and not just David.

Now David goes back to where he came from right.

Look at this your servant has killed both a lion and a bear.

He says I've been out in the field and I've learned some things.

Now here's what's interesting.

He mentions the lion and the bear, but I believe it probably started before the lion and the bear.

I believe there was a time David was out watching those sheep and a stray dog came, chased those sheep.

David shoot off that stray dog.

Then he's watching those sheep and a fox came.

David shoot off the fox.

Then a coyote came and he stood up to that coyote.

Then all of a sudden, you work your way up to a lion and a bear coming.

Can you imagine being out there, a young boy, by yourself, and a lion or a bear come.

You ever been to the zoo see how big a lion is?

How big a bear is?

Right, lion, male lion's paw is as big as your head.

But David didn't see a lion.

He saw an enemy coming to get what God had given him to protect and he said no right, I've got a covenant with God, so no matter what comes, I can dispatch of that.

Why?

Because it's not me.

I don't have to go wrestle with a lion or wrestle with a bear.

It's the God in me that gives me strength to do what he's called me to do.

Now, the amazing thing is you learn some things, right, I wrote this down.

I didn't have this message in mind, but I wrote this down.

And so I was thinking about like athletics, like in sports, right, and when you're playing sports, you scout your opponent.

How do you know the enemy scouts you.

The enemy sees what you do and he knows where you're weak and that's where he wants to attack you.

So the enemy had been watching David out in the field and he saw he's like huh, I wonder what this boy will do when a stray dog comes after those sheep?

Hmm, he's going to jump up and grab a stick and get that dog out of there.

Wonder what he'll do if a fox comes?

Well, he's going to get rid of that fox.

Wonder what he'll do if a coyote comes?

He'll get rid of that coyote.

Wonder what he'll do if a bear comes?

Wonder what he'll do if a lion comes?

Can I tell you something right now, when the little things start happening in your life, if you run scared, you're in trouble.

That's where you better know who you are in Christ Jesus and stand your ground.

I'd watched this video.

I showed it to Nicole the other day.

So it was this woman talking about a scientific study they did, and basically they gave these people sweatsuits.

And when I say a a sweatsuit, I don't mean like what we think of a sweatsuit.

They gave them this clothing that is built to absorb sweat.

That's kind of nasty, isn't it?

And so they, they had these people right.

They had people, uh, wearing these different things.

And this one group, they sent them wearing these sweatsuits and they sent them skydiving.

And the other group, they just had them doing some exercise.

Well then, these sweatsuits have these pads in them that absorbs all the sweat.

And so then they had another group of people come in unsuspectingly and said we need you to smell some things, and they put these helmets on them and these helmets could register all their brain activity.

So now imagine you're getting paid 50 bucks to come in and smell something and you don't know what you're smelling is human sweat.

But so they would have them.

They'd say smell this.

And they'd smell just the sweat that someone did, like riding a bike or something.

Almost no reaction in their brain.

They'd say smell this.

They'd smell the ones that they took up skydiving and the part of the brain that registers fear bounced up.

You don't know it, you can smell fear and you'll react to it.

They didn't even know what they were smelling.

All of a sudden they reacted out of fear.

I know the enemy's watching.

He's seeing how are you going to react to this?

Amen, he was watching David out in the fields and don't you know, he thought okay, okay, he took care of the dog, he took care of the fox, took care of the coyote.

He even took care of the bear and the lion.

I didn't think he'd take care of those.

Let's see how he does with a giant that has a weapon, a trained killer.

See how he does with that.

David's like same thing, no difference.

I know David didn't see any difference between Goliath and the dog.

Why?

Because it wasn't David's fight, it was God's fight, and the giant is no different than the stray dog.

When it comes to God, they're all defeated.

They all can't stand against God, amen.

And so David realized I'm not going to fight on the same level Goliath's fighting on.

I'm not fighting in the natural, I'm fighting a supernatural battle.

How do you think David's story would have went if he would have freaked out about a stray dog coming to get a lamb?

Ran home scared Dad, I'm so sorry.

A stray dog came.

It came and it was barking and yapping and it came and it got one of the lambs.

What kind of dog was it?

It was a poodle.

It was all furry and mean.

That little bell was dinging on its collar when it ran up there.

It scared me.

We would have no story of David if that was the case, right?

No, david, come home.

Dad, I had to go out with the sheep today.

Well, you know, a dog came out there today.

What'd you do?

Picked up my staff and ran that dog off.

Good boy, how would his story be right If the little things would have scared him?

So think about this what's your story going to look like when the little things come up in our life and we panic and we get afraid?

I was doing something in my own life recently and man, god likes to speak to me when I'm on my lawnmower.

I get on my lawnmower, I've got earplugs I put in and I just mow back and forth.

I got zero turn.

I just go back and forth.

I kind of enjoy it.

My yard's got a little tall.

So the last couple weeks, like yesterday, I mowed.

Yesterday I mowed twice, I mowed back and forth this way, knocked it down a little and then I came back the other direction, mowed it again a little lower.

There's been something going on in my life and God said he said CF, why are you so afraid of that little thing?

He goes, I've got bigger battles ahead of you that you also shouldn't be afraid of.

But if you can't handle this little thing, how are you ever going to handle the big thing that comes up?

David learned how to handle things.

He learned to walk by faith.

He learned to react by faith, amen.

And so he's like look, I've taken care of these things, I can take care of this guy.

Saul tries to give him his armor right there in verse 38 and 39.

David says I can't walk with these.

I've not tested them.

I know you need to test what you go out with.

David says I know how God's done it before and I believe he'll do it the same way.

So he picks up in verse 40, he says he took his staff in his hand.

What's a staff?

That staff is really a symbol of him being a shepherd.

Took up his staff, then picked up five smooth stones from the brook, put them in a shepherd.

I'm telling you if you could see this in a movie I know the kids saw it as a, but this is the most manliest thing you will ever see in your life.

If you could envision this.

There's a guy with a sword and a spear and he's a giant, and you're just imagine this right in a movie scene and here's this young kid Okay, I'll go.

And he looks up and he just grabs five little stones, puts him back and he's walking towards.

I mean, that is the, you don't get any.

I mean that I used to watch john wayne movies.

Right, john wayne kind of had that kind of walk.

You know, he kind of walk up one of my favorite john john wayne movies, big Jake.

I love Big Jake.

They kidnap his grandson.

He comes back and he's getting after these guys, whole gang of guys, and he just walks in I'm going to take you all out.

And there comes a time they've threatened his grandson and they're meeting.

It's the end of the movie.

And this one guy said he told John Wayne.

He said no matter what happens here, if we don't get our money, that little boy dies.

And then things start going and John Wayne leans in close to this guy and none of the other bad guys can hear it.

He says I'm going to tell you right now.

He goes, no matter what happens, your fault, my fault, nobody's fault, I'm going to kill you.

The guy kind of looked at me and goes I'm going to kill you.

You know what?

I watched that movie.

I believe John Wayne was minute, your fault, my fault, nobody's fault.

And David, something rose up on the inside of him like that and just imagine how cool you are, guy's got a sword and everything.

You're like, okay, let me just grab a couple stones here.

I mean, I can almost picture it.

You're like, oh my God, it gives you chills thinking about it.

And he's just walking out, puts him in his shepherd's bag, got his sling in his hand, gets near to the Philistine, right.

And look what the Philistine says, right, he saw David and how young he was and ruddy, good looking.

Goliath must've been ugly.

He was upset about David being good looking.

So the Philistine said to David am I a dog?

That you come to me with six?

And he cursed David by his gods.

Again, right, he doesn't even realize that.

David's like okay, keep talking about your God, because my God is the one true God.

Philistine said to David come to me and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beasts of the air.

Imagine a giant man looking at you and say okay, you want, I'm going to beat you.

He didn't just say I'm going to beat you up, he said I'm going to kill you and feed your body to the birds.

I've had people threaten me before in my life, right when I was younger, my younger days.

No one ever said they're going to kill me and feed my body to the birds.

That would have scared me a little bit.

I mean, someone got that kind of gumption to say not just I'm going to beat you up or knock you out or kill you, I'm going to kill you and feed your body to the birds.

Here's the thing the enemy is always going to be chirping at you, right?

Anyone ever see Waterboy?

I remember that Waterboy, that one guy scooping and hollering on the other side.

Have you ever seen it?

The Waterboy boy?

It's a it's a football movie.

It's goofy, it's it's a football movie and he's like oh you sound like a choo-choo train, right?

this guy's trying to be tough like whoa, I'm gonna kill you.

And he's like, oh, you sound like a choo-choo train.

I know the enemy's always gonna be chirping at you.

You just say, oh, okay, enemy, you sound like a choo-choo train, I'm not afraid of you.

Pastor Mark has a book I think we have in the bookstore.

I don't know if we still have copies, but we can get some more.

It's called Never Run at your Giant With your Mouth Shut.

The enemy's always going to be talking, talking trash.

I know you've got to learn to talk back, amen.

And so look at what David said in verse 45.

David didn't let the enemy have the last word.

He said you come to me with the sword, the spear and the javelin.

What's he saying?

You're coming to me in the natural, but I'm coming to you in the supernatural in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you defy.

This day, he said you've been doing this for 40 days.

Today's your day, buddy.

This day, right, the Lord's going to give you over to my hand.

I will strike you and take your head from you, and this day I'll give the carcasses of the entire camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air, the wild beasts of the earth and all right, all those things.

So imagine this God's like I'm going to kill you and feed your body to the birds.

David said oh really, I'm going to kill you.

I'm not just going to kill you, I'm going to cut your head off.

I mean, you're getting serious at that point.

And then he doesn't stop there.

Then he looks at the rest of the army and you know he's got a crazy look in his eyes at this point and he says then I'm coming after all.

You guys, you got something on the inside of you.

If you're not just challenging one guy but you're challenging everybody, someone does that.

You're like.

This guy's either crazy or he is a bad man.

David was a bad man.

Why?

Because he knew who he was in God.

What happens?

You know the story.

They go running to each other.

David takes the stone, lets it go, the anointing of God upon him, gives a little oomph to that, hits Goliath right square in the forehead, drops him dead.

He goes up, grabs Goliath's sword, cuts Goliath's head off, lifts it up and everyone in that camp leaves.

Why?

Because they're like I think this guy's crazy enough to come kill us.

Forty days everyone had been running scared, took one young man with faith to get the victory.

What's it going to take for you to get the victory?

What's it going to take in your life get the victory?

What's it going to take in your life?

How many days have you been running scared from a situation, from a problem?

Some of you maybe 40 days, maybe it's been 40 weeks, I don't know.

I know there's some things in my life that I've got to get in faith on.

If the circumstances didn't look scary, everyone would walk by faith, right?

If Goliath would have came out and he was a dwarf right Like Wizard of Oz, right One of the little people, right One of the lollipop guild hey, I'm going to get you, guy would be like I'll get this guy Right.

I know, if it looked like that, everyone would be a champion.

Doesn't look like a, looks like what?

Looks like a giant, looks like a lion, looks like a bear, but greater is he that's in me than he that's in the world.

How many days are we going running high?

Can I tell you something?

I'm an adult and I've done this as an adult and I know it's true, even as an adult.

You know what I've done with my problems.

Sometimes I've hid from them, I've buried my head in the sand, I've ignored them.

Anyone, as an adult, you ever notice when you ignore a problem, does it go away?

Nope, what happens Gets worse usually why?

Because you've ignored it.

So it's just growing and growing and growing and you're in fear.

So it's growing bigger and bigger and bigger in your mind.

No, I've got to get in the Word.

I've got to see who I am in God.

I've got to see how big my God is.

That's what David knew.

He knew how big his God was and he wasn't afraid of how big the problem was, how big the giant was God's looking for what Champions?

That's why I love what Coach Schiff has done with C4C.

It's champions for Christ.

He's looking for champions, he's not looking for wimpy people.

David had his mighty men.

Once he became king, he had his mighty men.

Once he became king, he had his mighty men.

Well, if you notice those guys that were his mighty men, you know what they were like when he found them.

They were broke, they were a group of losers, and David took them, taught them about faith, taught them about God.

And then you had guys, one of his guys.

There's a story, and it's a very brief story, in the Bible.

He fell in a pit with a lion on a snowy day.

I know, if you're a mighty man, you fall in a pit with a lion on a snowy day.

You're like no problem.

Why?

Because greater is he that's in me than he that's in the world.

Something about faith, people, that causes God to start moving in your life.

But he's waiting for us to do something.

God, for 40 days, was waiting for someone in the camp of Israel to realize who they were and the covenant they had with God, to stand up to the giant.

But for 40 days no one did.

What's God waiting for in your life?

Waiting for you to stand up, waiting for me to stand up, waiting for us to stand up?

Take it by faith.

This is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith.

Your victory is on the other side of your action in faith.

Your victory is on the other side of you standing up and advancing.

I don't know.

The kingdom of God, the Bible says, is advancing.

The writer of Hebrews said we are not of those who retreat back or shrink back, but we're of those who advance by faith.

What's God looking for?

He's looking for a church.

He's looking for a group of people that are advancing Yep.
