Welcome to the First Apostolic Church podcast.
-
Our church mission is to love as God loves showing compassion
-
every soul, thus winning those souls and equipping them to be
-
sent out to plant and to harvest.
-
Thank you for joining us today, and we hope that you are blessed
-
by today's podcast. Hallelujah, Jesus, Hallelujah,
-
Jesus, bless that name. Amen.
-
You returned to your seats tonight.
-
Amen. Please remember that the mobile
-
food distribution will be taking place this Friday.
-
All right? That begins around 12.
-
The paper says 12 to two, but we're not regulating necessarily
-
to ending time, so it can go on. And there's been Flyers and
-
stuff distributed, distributed here and there.
-
And we have had posts, of course, on line that's been
-
advertising that. I think we've had some
-
interaction through Facebook Messenger and stuff people
-
that's been inquiring about that.
-
And someone has been replying. There's more than one of us on
-
there. So I don't know who's been
-
replying, but good job, whoever you are and such.
-
So none the less, appreciate that.
-
Genesis chapter #9 Again, we're here tonight and Genesis will be
-
here next week in Genesis. The week after that, I won't be
-
here, but brother Zach McGee will be here teaching.
-
And then we'll be flipping a format.
-
More than likely, I say more than likely, according to what
-
we do next week. Next week we're going to try to
-
do some genealogies, which I know everybody's just like
-
biting at the bit at my son Trevor thought it was night
-
tonight. I said no, it's not tonight.
-
That's probably going to be next week.
-
And. He's like, oh good.
-
What? It's the genealogies.
-
He says, Oh yeah, I'm really troubled or whatever.
-
Anyway, so Genesis chapter #9 and we're going to begin reading
-
with verse #8 I'm just read a few verses of Scripture, then
-
I'll allow you to be seated. Amen.
-
Here this evening the Bible said, And God spake unto Noah,
-
and to his sons with him, saying, And I behold, I
-
establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you,
-
with every living creature that is with you of the fowl and of
-
the cattle, and of every beast of the earth.
-
With you from all that go out of the ark to every beast of the
-
earth, I will establish my covenant with you.
-
Neither shall all flesh be cut off anymore by the waters of a
-
flood, neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the
-
earth. And God said, This is the token
-
of the covenant which I make between me and you, and every
-
living creature that is with you for perpetual generations.
-
I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a
-
covenant between me and the earth.
-
And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth,
-
that the bow shall be seen in the cloud.
-
And I remember my covenant, which is between me and you, and
-
every living creature of all flesh.
-
The water shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh, and
-
the bow shall be in the cloud. And I will look upon it, that I
-
may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every
-
living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.
-
And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant which
-
I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the
-
earth. It was said, it was said again,
-
it was said differently. It was said again, it was said.
-
He wants us to know this, I guess, Amen.
-
Want to talk about Noah's legacy here tonight and I'll be mindful
-
of your time. Amen.
-
Father, we're thankful, Lord Jesus, this evening that we have
-
an opportunity and a chance to Lord together, together, God, I
-
pray, O Lord Jesus, that your word, Lord Jesus, stand.
-
God, it doesn't need propped up, Lord Jesus, it doesn't need
-
help, but Lord God, it is good all on its own and by itself.
-
I pray, O Lord, today, God strengthen us, our hearts and
-
minds, God give us strength. Lord Jesus, for this evening, in
-
Jesus name I pray, Amen. Everyone say Amen, you may be
-
seated, everybody take a deep breath and let it out.
-
That was more for me than it was for you, Amen.
-
Just seems like it's been a rush, rush for the past couple
-
of weeks, Amen. So God is speaking again there.
-
This is very limited of God, of what we have recorded in
-
Scripture, of God speaking to Noah during this whole episode
-
of the flood, before, in the middle and after.
-
But he's speaking. And yet the Bible says in verse
-
eight that he spoke to Noah and to his sons, which is a little
-
different than what we have in previous verses leading up to
-
this time. All the other times it would
-
seem like God spoke to Noah alone, by himself and directed.
-
His his speech in his speaking to Noah.
-
But now he broadens that circle of involvement.
-
And he involves Noah's sons in what he is saying as well.
-
No doubt there's going to be a great responsibility on their
-
shoulders because Dad's going to pass, pass on, although he's
-
still going to be with us for 350 years.
-
But he's going to pass on in this whole replenishing and
-
repopulating the earth in many regards as going to be falling
-
upon the shoulders of his offspring to continue that.
-
So none the less, here's God speaking to them all.
-
And Noah receives from God, and his sons receive from God a
-
covenant God makes with Noah and his sons, the descendants and
-
the seeds that will even come after them.
-
And this is a covenant that God doesn't just make with knowing
-
his sons or with humans in general.
-
Because remember, there's only eight souls that's upon the
-
earth whenever they come off the ark.
-
So this is made with all humanity and those that shall
-
come or those that will be, not just with those that are there
-
that day, but those that will come.
-
And it's a covenant that's also made with the animals.
-
It's made with the living things according to the Scripture,
-
which may seem a little peculiar to us, that God would include
-
them in the covenant, but it's not real peculiar whenever you
-
consider that he included them in the destruction.
-
So you know God, he's a very even God.
-
You know he's a fair God. And so they're included likewise
-
within this covenant and all these living things.
-
And he gives it just a, a few divisions whom this concerns #1
-
namely, we know that this concerns humans because he
-
speaks to knowing his sons. But he also specifies there in
-
those verses that I read to you, that the fowl of the air, that
-
the cattle which our minds tend more to think of more
-
domesticated type of beast and then the beast of the earth,
-
that this, this covenant was made with Amen.
-
Not just the destruction, but also this covenant and in that
-
in these divisions of the human and the fowl and the cattle and
-
the beasts. Interesting, interesting.
-
Maybe not to everybody, but I'll say to me, OK, I'll speak for
-
myself. But interestingly, whenever you
-
go to the book of Ezekiel and you go also to the Book of
-
Revelation and both of these are describing times of God's
-
presence being there. And there are some, you know,
-
cherubim and seraphim that are there.
-
And the Bible speaks about worship that's taking place in
-
these modes. The Bible speaks in both of
-
these aspects. Not just that, but also bows or
-
rainbows that are present in both these areas in Ezekiel and
-
also in the Book of Revelation that you read of these creatures
-
or these living things that around about the throne or
-
around about this area where God's is.
-
And some of them are described as creatures.
-
Others are described as a creature with four faces.
-
None the less of the faces or the creatures that are described
-
in Ezekiel and both in the Book of Revelation chapter #4 it is
-
the face of a human. It is the that of a lion.
-
It's that of a calf or a ox according whether you're an
-
Ezekiel or Revelation, and it is that of an eagle.
-
In other words, all four of these divisions of the covenant
-
that was made with Noah and his sons and these other divisions
-
of a title of a wild beast and of a a fowl, they are
-
represented in all these places where the throne and the rainbow
-
is in Ezekiel and both in the Book of Revelation.
-
Which seems a little interesting that these creatures are there
-
in the presence of God, even depicted as worshipping God and
-
the presence of a rainbow is there because that which that
-
that covenant that God made with Noah and these divisions were
-
I'm not going to destroy the world again.
-
I'm not going to destroy it by water.
-
There will not be a flood upon the whole earth.
-
And with that, then all these living things are not going to
-
meet destruction as well. I know we safeguarded a
-
selective view on the ark, but all of creation then is
-
safeguarded as that. And so we see them in these
-
other places. They're worshipping in the
-
presence of God. The Bible even tells us New
-
Testament Scriptures when it speaks about that.
-
All of us, including creation, is awaiting a day for the full
-
redemption of mankind and the earth.
-
I know there is a certain level of redemption that we have upon
-
this earth, but there is a full redemption of our bodies
-
whenever the Lord comes back to to get His church.
-
And there's a full redemption of earth in itself because there'll
-
be a new heaven and a new earth that will come down eventually.
-
And so the Bible even speaks that not only do we wait for
-
that day, but the whole creation does groan and travail.
-
Is the Scripture in Romans for that complete redemption.
-
The Bible says in Romans 8 and verse 22.
-
For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travelleth
-
in pain together until now, and not only they, but all ourselves
-
also, which have the 1st. Fruits of the Spirit.
-
Even we ourselves grown within ourselves waiting for the
-
adoption to with the redemption of our body.
-
And so this in many ways is somewhat connected to that know
-
it the the Noah covenant, Amen, that God made with him and with
-
all of these other living things, Amen, that we're all
-
awaiting that day. We have, we have a little
-
respite, yes, because we have the comfort that it won't be
-
destroyed, Amen, by water again. But we're looking for a day of
-
full redemption. And so these covenant dull
-
pronouncements here in what I read to you, it's it's quite
-
wearisome because it's repeated over and over and over again
-
frequently. And God in Scripture restates
-
the parties and he states what parties are involved.
-
And he states it a little differently from verse from
-
verse. I'm sure you picked up on it,
-
but just in case you didn't, when you look at verses 9 and
-
10, he talks about this covenant being with you.
-
He's Speaking of Noah with your seed after you and with every
-
living creature you look at verse 12, he says it's between
-
me and you and every living creature that is with you for
-
perpetual generation. So this doesn't have a, this
-
doesn't have a time frame set to it.
-
It's not like for the next 10 years or 25, this is a eternal
-
covenant. This is a everlasting covenant.
-
This is perpetual. Verse 13 says it's between me
-
and the earth. Verse 15 says it's between me,
-
you, and every living creature of all flesh.
-
Verse 16 says it's between God and every living creature of all
-
flesh that is upon the earth. Verse seven.
-
I mean, folks, this is redundant.
-
I mean in many. Ways between me and all flesh
-
that is upon the earth. But evidently God wanted to
-
under score it, highlight it, and bold it.
-
Hey, this is between me and all of y'all all right?
-
And it's going to last the next time rain comes, don't you know,
-
don't grab your timber and start trying to construct an ark
-
because this, this is good. This is going to last.
-
And so this covenant that God made with them is the first time
-
that we have an idea of a covenant in Scripture.
-
It's the first time for sure, probably Genesis 6 when when God
-
said it before talking that I will make a covenant with you.
-
It's the 1st. Time we see this word covenant
-
prop up in the scriptures. Now by many accounts, people
-
talk about the the Garden of Eden with with Adam and Eve and
-
things that took place in Edom. Many speak that how that and
-
arrangements that God made with Adam and Eve could have been a
-
covenant, a Adamic covenant as it as they often times call it.
-
But the word covenant was never never used in in conjunction
-
with them. But when we talk about a
-
covenant, a covenant usually involves at least two parties,
-
at least two parties and. And with that.
-
There could be some stipulations that are on each party or just
-
stipulation on one party that follow.
-
Like if you keep this, this will happen.
-
If you don't keep this, this will happen type of things.
-
And sometimes again, the covenants are for a certain
-
period of time. Sometimes they are eternal,
-
everlasting, Amen. Sometimes there's conditions,
-
sometimes there isn't conditions.
-
And So what we have here in Scripture, and God repeats this
-
more than once. Imagine that Amen repeating
-
Amen. But God repeats and states that
-
this is my covenant. He says this is my covenant,
-
this is a unilateral covenant, this, this, this.
-
Covenant depends and totally is shouldered by God.
-
This this doesn't depend upon man.
-
It wasn't like we're going to I'm going to make this covenant
-
for you. I'm not going to destroy the the
-
land with water and every living things not going to be destroyed
-
again. If you do this that that that
-
wasn't that wasn't the prescription.
-
It wasn't like you do this and I'll do this.
-
No, all of this was totally dependent upon God, all right?
-
It was dependent upon him. And what we probably don't
-
recognize is God setting us up again.
-
Tremendously futuristic, as I pointed out to you over and over
-
again in Genesis thus far. That's something that's going to
-
happen in the future. A covenant that He has for
-
mankind is also going to be up on His shoulders that Isaiah
-
would even say Speaking of The government shall be up on his
-
shoulders and of His Kingdom. There shall be no end he's
-
pointing to. The covenant that will come,
-
that is another unilateral covenant, and God accepts all
-
the responsibilities of this covenant.
-
He doesn't place at this time any expectations.
-
Upon man concerning this covenant, and whenever you begin
-
to think about that, concerning the history we have with man
-
thus far, what type of expectations could he really
-
expect of man? Let's just recall Genesis Six
-
and five. This is BF.
-
Before the flood. I know I I, I took me.
-
Weeks to come up with it, but. And God saw that the wickedness
-
of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of
-
the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
-
BF right AF after the flood. You saw it coming, didn't you?
-
Genesis 821 And the Lord smelled the sweet savour, and the Lord
-
said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground anymore
-
for man's sake, for the imagination of man's heart is
-
evil from his youth. Before the flood, After the
-
flood, what can God really expect?
-
What can he really expect from man?
-
He can't expect perfection from man.
-
That's not there, nor will it ever be.
-
So when we start looking at man, what what what can God really I,
-
yeah, I believe God can't expect, you know, some things of
-
us, but there are some things that are beyond the realm of
-
what man can give because of his nature, because of who he is,
-
because of this element of sin that came in in the garden from
-
the very beginning. And so when we look at the Noah
-
covenant or the Noah covenant, it is a unconditional covenant.
-
There is there is no ABC section C from mankind.
-
It is a everlasting covenant. And we know from Scripture that
-
it is sealed with a token or with a sign, Amen, that this
-
covenant is sure this covenant is real.
-
He said to them, what did he say?
-
You know that he said, I'm going to put my bow in the cloud.
-
I'm going to put my bow in the cloud and I'm not going to flood
-
the earth and I'm not going to for sure flood it over all to
-
the degree of just totally destroying and decimating all of
-
the animals and the world and the living things, he says.
-
I'm going to put that bow in the cloud.
-
Is the token the seal that? This covenant is sure, this
-
covenant is good that you could depend upon this covenant.
-
The Hebrew word for bow in Scripture, of course, is what we
-
understand to be rainbow, right? Matter of fact, I was just
-
driving home. I don't remember.
-
It was just one day, just this week when it was pouring down
-
rain. I know it was.
-
It was yesterday. Yeah, cuz I drove in the rain to
-
go to the airport and Saint Louis.
-
Bad, bless the. Lord.
-
But none the less as I came back home after getting gas, there
-
was a bow in the cloud over in our neighborhood that I saw.
-
And we understand that is rainbow, but normally this same
-
Hebrew word, normally it refers to a warrior's bow.
-
And so as we see the rainbow in the sky, there is another shade
-
to this, that what we have is really a visual of God hanging
-
up his battle bow of judgement that He has had toward mankind.
-
He says you'll see my bow because notice, he says more
-
than once, my bow in the cloud. I'm, I'm hang.
-
I'm suspending judgment for you for now.
-
My bows hanging right there for now.
-
So to speak and so know us all. Interestingly enough, know us
-
all. The bow in the cloud after the
-
storm in the book of Ezekiel, when we read about the presence
-
of the Lord and the bow that shows up in there and the
-
creatures that are there, Ezekiel sees the bow in what
-
would in essence be in the midst of the storm.
-
When you get to the Book of Revelation, all of that is
-
pictured before judgement kicks loose.
-
So in essence Bishop they saw the bow, or in the Book of
-
Revelation is depicted that the bow was.
-
Seen before the judgement or before the storm, so.
-
God is so gracious that whether you're in the storm, before the
-
storm, or after the storm, He's wanting us to know that there is
-
a covenant that He is made with mankind in his book, Walter
-
Lewin, his book. The love of.
-
Physics. It says this.
-
For you to see a rainbow, three conditions need to be met.
-
First, the sun needs to be behind you.
-
Second, as a matter of fact, next time you see a rainbow,
-
turn 180° and you'll see where the sun is.
-
Number 2, there must be raindrops in the sky in front of
-
you. This could be miles in front of
-
you or just a few yards in front of you.
-
Thirdly, the sunlight must be able to reach the raindrops
-
without any obstruction or obstacles such as clouds.
-
It's got to be able to penetrate the raindrop.
-
With all that said, I believe that is nothing more but a
-
perfect picture of God's involvement in our lives.
-
Because the SON, his light must be behind you.
-
And although the remnant of your storm may.
-
Still yet be before you none the less, whenever he breaks through
-
the clouds, and he and any other obstacle that may be there,
-
he'll affirm to you and I by the bow in the cloud of his
-
unshakable covenants. Amen.
-
Before us, it appears that each covenant that God makes in
-
Scripture, and there are few that he's always sealed them or
-
given a token or a sign a company in them.
-
We have with Noah, of course, the bow and the cloud.
-
We come go to Abraham, all right, and the covenant with
-
Abraham becoming part of the Jewish people, it's sign or seal
-
and token with circumcision whenever you come to Moses.
-
And the law Amen that one of their covenant seals was.
-
The week, the weekly Sabbath it was.
-
It was a depiction of them having kept that which was
-
granted to them of the law. It was the weekly Sabbath that
-
was a seal or a sign. Another covenant.
-
When we come to the the David covenant, it was, he says, I'll
-
set one of your seed upon the throne to be a eternal king.
-
It was a kingship or a kingship dynasty.
-
That was the seal or the sign of the covenant.
-
When we get New Testament scripture, though, there is
-
still a covenant and there's still a sign and there's still a
-
seal. Amen.
-
We can see the bow, the circumcision can be observed.
-
The weekly Sabbath can be the dynasty.
-
All these things can be observed when we come to New Testament,
-
right? He spoke of it in in the book of
-
Isaiah, I believe it was, or Ezekiel rather, talking about
-
that those laws would no longer be written on a heart of stone,
-
but a heart of flesh, right? Amen.
-
And in the new covenant, which is our Spirit baptism being
-
covenant in covenant with God, there is still a sign in the
-
seal and the token of that covenant, Amen.
-
Evidenced by speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives the
-
utterance, as Roman says, we are sealed with a seal of
-
righteousness, Amen. According to our faith, Amen.
-
This occurs, it happens. And so all of these covenants,
-
starting with knowing going forward, Amen.
-
In the Scripture, all of them are fulfilled in Christ Jesus.
-
All of them are fulfilled in Christ Jesus.
-
If you would even consider Adam in the end and Eden a covenant
-
type of mentality that is still fulfilled in Christ Jesus.
-
If you're talking about how the seed of the woman would give
-
birth to one that would, that would bruise the head of the
-
seed of the serpent, then that's pictured in Christ Jesus.
-
Jesus Christ fulfills the Adamic covenant, Amen.
-
We have seen then also the first Adam, all right, but in Noah, he
-
is almost like a second Adam because we have this whole
-
recreation thing, right? The young creation, then the
-
recreation, we have this whole thing and Noah's almost like a
-
second Adam, Amen. Pictured here in the book of
-
Genesis chapter #9 But with that is the case, we have the first
-
Adam. We have no, which is almost
-
pictured after the flood is the second Adam.
-
But then in the New Testament we have what is called the last
-
Adam and that's pictured again by the Lord Jesus Christ because
-
he did what Adam couldn't do. He did what Noah could not do
-
and accomplish and nations, the Bible says all nations according
-
to the Abraham covenant, all nations were to be blessed by
-
the descendants of Abraham, right?
-
He says I'll curse those that curse you, I'll bless those that
-
bless you all, all the nations, all the people will be blessed
-
room by you. And that would happen by
-
miraculous birthright. Abraham and Sarah late, late,
-
late in life, they're given birth to an Isaac and because of
-
that miraculous birth, given birth to then some other boys
-
that then goes into 12 tribes. And then we have nations being
-
blessed. So we have all nations being
-
blessed, but it's depended upon a miraculous birth that's
-
fulfilled in Christ Jesus, a miraculous birth of a boy inside
-
of a Virgin Mary being born, coming forth for the blessing of
-
all nations, Amen. And so then likewise, when we
-
see the Mosaic covenant, Amen. Here is the law.
-
They got to keep the law. If you don't keep the law,
-
here's the penalty of the law in the man Christ Jesus, Amen.
-
He was tempted in always, like you and I are, but he was
-
without sin. He kept the law, but he also
-
subjected himself to suffer the penalty of the law.
-
And then at Calvary, he absolutely fulfills that
-
covenant. And concerning the David
-
covenant, Amen. Here is a king of the line of
-
David that will have an everlasting Kingdom, Amen.
-
Jesus Christ is in the lineage of David and his Kingdom knows
-
no end, Amen. It's all in Jesus Christ.
-
He's the one that redeems us in the new covenant, that promises
-
a new heaven and the new earth. Jesus Christ, from beginning to
-
end, fulfills all covenants. So that means every covenant,
-
you come to the script, you know what it's doing.
-
It's pointing toward Him. We look at them as just isolated
-
things in an era of time, but they supersede time.
-
They're pointing toward Him. Even here in Genesis chapter #9
-
Jesus attested to this himself in many regards.
-
The book of Luke chapter 24 and verse 44, these are Jesus words.
Luke 24 chapter mention
-
And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you
-
while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled,
-
which were written in the law of Moses and in the prophets, and
-
in the Psalms concerning me. He says these things are going
-
to be fulfilled, those things that were written in Moses, law
-
and the prophets, and they were all about me.
-
Yeah. You can find Jesus in the Old
-
Testament Scripture. They're speaking about him,
-
though his human lifetime has not yet begun, but they're
-
pointing to him for one. That's one reason why it's still
-
very important to study and read the Old Testament.
-
All right, If Jesus himself said all these things were talking
-
about me, If you don't, you're missing the some.
-
What's being said about him? Amen.
-
For that matter, almost anything that we have quoted in the New
-
Testament Scripture, you know what?
-
It is not the New Testament, the Old Testament.
-
We have these only New Testament people.
-
If you're only New Testament people, everybody out in the
-
www.world, then you better extract all of those quotations,
-
which are many that's in the New Testament.
-
Of the Old Testament. Amen.
-
John chapter 5 and verse 39, Jesus says again, search the
John 5 chapter mention
-
scriptures. What's what scriptures?
-
What scriptures in John? What are the scriptures in John?
-
Do we have the New Testament yet?
-
Nope. So what are the scriptures?
-
The scriptures are those scriptures that are back that
-
direction in your Bible, right? He said search the scriptures
-
for him. Then you think you have eternal
-
life. And they are they which testify
-
again of me. Matthew 517 Jesus speaking
-
again, Think not that I'm come to destroy the law or the
-
prophets. I'm not come to destroy, but to
-
fulfill. And He did.
-
Even with the fulfillment of each covenant of the Old
-
Testament, He was fulfilling the law.
-
Let's go on with verse #18 and I'll read until the end of this
-
chapter. OK.
-
And the sons of Noah that went forth of the ark were Shem, Ham,
-
and Japheth. And Ham is the father of Canaan.
-
These are the three sons of Noah.
-
And of them was the whole earth overspread.
-
And Noah began to be a husbandman, And he planted a
-
vineyard, and he drank of the wine, and was drunken, and he
-
was uncovered within his tent. And Ham, the father of Cain, saw
-
the nakedness of his father, and told his to brethren without.
-
And Shem and Jacob took a garment, and laid it upon both
-
their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the
-
nakedness of their father. And their faces were backward,
-
and they saw not their father's nakedness.
-
And Noah woke from his wine, and knew that his younger son, and
-
knew what his younger son had done unto him.
-
And he said, Cursed be Canaan, a servant of servants shall he be
-
unto his brethren. And he said, Blessed be the Lord
-
God of Shem, and Canaan shall be his servant.
-
God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of
-
Shem, and Canaan shall be his servant.
-
And Noah lived after the flood 350 years, and all the days of
-
Noah were 950 years, and he died.
-
So we know just from the verses I read earlier that there is
-
still this human fallibility. It's it's not checked out, it's
-
not been erased. There's still human error.
-
There's still human sin still takes place after the flood and
-
it continues. It continues forward.
-
And in some measures we might even say it's grown much worse
-
maybe than what it was, or maybe it's just more noticeable than
-
what it was. But we continue forward after
-
the flood again with that recreation picture, right, of
-
land appearing again and vegetation happening again.
-
And here's man in the first family again, all after the
-
flood. And so we know the imaginations
-
of the harder evil and all this. We understand that.
-
But there is also a similar picture after the flood, a
-
similar picture of mankind before and after the flood in
-
some details as well. Remember, before the flood,
-
Adam, he's, he's dressing the garden.
-
He is in essence a farmer, which seems to be something that that
-
there's a passing down of through the lineage, but he is a
-
farmer. He is a keeper of the garden.
-
After the flood, Noah is a husbandman, he is a farmer.
-
Now there's been some time elapsed, no doubt, since they
-
come off the ark because Noah's had time, the planted vineyard,
-
the vineyard to grow. And I read that you can go from
-
planting to wine in about three years.
-
So there's some time that has elapsed that's taking place.
-
But in all of this here, these verses after the flood are
-
picturing, if you will, the fall of Noah.
-
He's drunk and uncovered in his tent.
-
Reason why I say this is before the flood with Adam, it was a
-
type of vegetation, a tree that ushered him into his fall.
-
After the flood, it's a sort of vegetation, a vineyard that
-
ushers Noah in to his fall. Furthermore, if you look at
-
verse #21. Here's Noah in his his his tent.
-
He's uncovered, he's uncovered, he's drunk and his his state of
-
awareness is compromised. Or maybe even not even.
-
Available at all at this moment in time, but none the less he is
-
naked and if I could say and unaware.
-
Does that sound similar to something But in verse #24
-
whenever he has awoke or come out of this stupor, a man that
-
he is now there and his eyes have been opened, so to speak.
-
So there's a lot of these parallels from before and after
-
the flood. And there's there's even more
-
that you could look at. You could look at even him
-
coming in and seeing his father's nakedness and almost
-
delighting it to the place that he shared it with others,
-
compared with Eve looking at the tree and the lightning it and
-
then sharing with her husband. You.
-
There's a lot of different imagery here before and after
-
Amen, the flood that you see this recreation of a pattern
-
Amen, that's taken place in Scripture.
-
So there's a lot of layers to that that you can just
-
investigate on your own time in verse #21 the Bible speaks about
-
Noah being uncovered or that he lay uncovered.
-
Scholar says that this is reflective this this means that
-
Noah uncovered himself. It's not that Ham did or anybody
-
else did, but Noah had done this himself, and that seems very.
-
Understandable, because Noah's in a drunken state, and
-
sometimes, from my understanding, you do some
-
things that you just would not otherwise do had you not been
-
drunk. But the importance is, notice
-
the difference between Ham's reaction all right, and Shem and
-
Japheth's reaction when they learn each of these groups learn
-
of their father's nakedness, him.
-
Now let's get this right pictured in your mind.
-
Sorry I didn't set up a tent and grab a blanket and all that
-
stuff. The picture, this Noah is in his
-
tent, he's within drunk and uncovered him evidently goes
-
into this private space and witnesses his father's nakedness
-
and then goes and tells his brothers that are on the outside
-
of the tin. So Ham's response to his
-
father's nakedness is, well, look at that.
-
Let me go tell the boys about it.
-
Jim and Japheth's reaction to learning about their father's
-
nakedness, not seeing it, just hearing about it.
-
Let me say that one more time, not seeing it, but just hearing
-
about it. They go into this private space
-
from the public space where they heard it with a garment on their
-
shoulders, and they walk in and they cover up their father's
-
nakedness and don't see it with their own eyes.
-
They just go off what they have heard.
-
This is very important. Father naked.
-
Yeah. Well, in the Near Eastern
-
culture, and as years go further, further back and back,
-
you would find that children had a higher respect for their
-
parents for sure than they do today.
-
I'm talking about in Near Eastern culture even.
-
But respect for your parents and showing that respect even when
-
they are in their mistaken states was important.
-
It was paramount to to to do this and and to protect us the
-
wrong word, but to still honor them even when they may be in a
-
dishonorable position. All right.
-
And so, though Noah is the one who has has compromised himself
-
with with wine and has been naked then and drunkenness, Ham
-
in reality owes his father the latitude to make a mistake
-
without exploiting his failure. Let that sink in for a little
-
bit. Because the generation we live
-
in is all about exploitation, is all about setting as a bird on
-
the line waiting for the failure.
-
And if we can even somehow help 'cause it without it being
-
known, then we want to capitalize on that and be a ham
-
that goes and tells somebody else.
-
Please understand again, what Noah had happened took place in
-
private, but Ham made it public. Ham.
-
Could have walked into the tent and discovered the nakedness of
-
his own father, and just as quickly as Saul had covered his
-
own eyes and found what he could have found to cover up, Dad left
-
the tent and never said even a word to Shim and Japheth or
-
anybody. Else.
-
And in doing so, he would have taken a private matter and left
-
it a private matter. But instead he took a private
-
matter and made it a public matter.
-
Oh, someone say glory. See, some of us relish in the
-
mistakes of others. Verse 21 Noah's within the tent.
-
Verse 22 Shem and Japheth. Are without the tent.
-
So once. Amen.
-
Ham Ham's not like our dear Psalmist David that we'll see
-
later that the Bible says whenever a Saul and his son
-
Jonathan are taken in the in the war on Mount Gilboa.
-
That David is lamenting and crying and saying, oh, how the
-
mighty have fallen. He's grieved by what's happened,
-
Ham. His interest is piqued and he
-
can't. Oh, how many times have you ever
-
heard? I just had to tell somebody.
-
Or let's get the phraseology right.
-
I shouldn't say anything to you about this, but Sister Sam, I
-
wouldn't just tell anybody this, but.
-
Well, me saying that number one, I don't need to be telling you,
-
but when I tell you I wouldn't tell anybody else but you, then
-
you feel special. Because you're so important, you
-
should be Privy to this information.
-
I won't share with anybody else but if they told you that,
-
guarantee they told five other people the same.
-
I shouldn't be telling you this but well glory someone say Amen.
-
So him saw his father's negative but he could not leave it at
-
that. Side note here on this telling
-
and not telling private and public stuff, we are still tale
-
bearers and gossips when the tell we tell and the information
-
we share is accurate. You hear me?
-
Tale bearing isn't about just saying something false about
-
somebody else. Gossip isn't just about
-
spreading something false or inaccurate about somebody else
-
when you share something accurate.
-
A failure. It's still a gossip and it's
-
still a tale. As long as we think that it's
-
accurate, then it's OK to share. Well, let's open up your life
-
and start sharing. If we can tell all things that
-
are accurate, let's open up your life then and start sharing.
-
It doesn't always work this way, but to the to the best of my
-
ability and I don't always get it right.
-
But as a pastor, there are things that have happened
-
through the series of my years here that when they've been
-
private matters. I've tried to read.
-
There's things in here none of you know that only I know.
-
And I'll go to my grave with because I'll keep a private
-
matter, a private matter if it's public.
-
A lot of times you got to deal with stuff in a public fashion,
-
and I hate that, but it's the nature of the setting.
-
Amen. If if Noah was outside of his
-
tent, just under the stars, well, probably the probably the
-
other seven individuals or however many was at that time,
-
three years removed are are going to be Privy to it.
-
But within the tent, him was Noah's responsible for his
-
failure. Am's responsible for everybody
-
else knowing about it, some Jew. They, the Bible says in verse
-
23, they took a garment in the Hebrew.
-
There's the definitive article there of the garment.
-
They took the garment laid upon their shoulders and went in
-
backward and laid it upon Noah. And I'm just going to touch on
-
this barely just enough to spike your interest, but some Jews
-
believe in Jewish teachings are that the garment that they put
-
upon Noah was Noah's garment. And it's actually something that
-
they believe was handed down through generations, even from
-
Adam. This is just a Jewish, this is
-
Jewish thought process. You didn't even ask for the lane
-
on this one. None the less that the coat that
-
God made for Adam and Eve, they believe this was the garment
-
that Noah had that whenever Adam had the animals come before him
-
be able to name him, it was due to that coat that he had.
-
And then that Noah having the same garment perhaps caused the
-
drawing of them for the pudding on the ark.
-
We follow this coat even to Esau and stuff through through Jewish
-
mindset, but nonetheless they believe perhaps a man could have
-
been even Adams nonetheless Shem and Japheth regardless the the
-
the Jewish ideas. Ishim and Jacob though resembled
-
God's actions and resembled the heavenly much in going in and
-
covering the nakedness of their Father.
-
Because God covered the nakedness of Adam and Eve, they
-
were emulating God in their in their practice of covering the
-
nakedness of another. The Bible says in first Peter
-
4:00 and 8:00 and above all things, have fervent charity
-
among yourselves, for charity shall cover the multitude of
-
sins. Charity love covers a multitude
-
of sins. Look, if you will, I won't hold
-
you much longer, but long enough.
-
Amen. All right, verses 18 and 22.
-
This is really peculiar in the setting of Scripture.
-
He's talking about Shem, him and Japheth, and then he wants to
-
follow back up and tell us in like verse 18 that him is the
-
father of Canaan. And then it says a little
-
further down about him is the father of Canaan.
-
And then whenever Noah, which is the the only recorded words we
-
have of him through all this stuff is his curse.
-
Cursed be Canaan, not him, but the one who walked in and seen
-
these negatives. But cursed be Canaan.
-
And so what's the big deal? You saying?
-
Well, him is him is the the father of of of Canaan.
-
Well, he was the father of more than Cain.
-
And why just pick out Canaan? He was the.
-
Father of many others. We'll get into that next week in
-
Genealogy 10. All right, Amen.
-
We have this whole scenario here.
-
There's others as well, but Cain is explicitly named Year.
-
The Bible says that whenever Noah realized what what had
-
happened that he curses Canaan, him son, and then follows some
-
blessings upon him and blessings of enlargement upon Japheth.
-
And so when we see this Noah's life here, because evidently
-
there was nothing more meaningful for God to share in
-
Genesis concerning Noah's life, because he still had 350 years
-
left, all right. But evidently there was still
-
nothing, nothing, you know, as meaningful as he wanted to
-
include in his story of the Bible that was going to usher
-
the whole concept alone of what he was trying to go.
-
And so we have been almost here because we're the statement's
-
going to be read 350 years after the flood.
-
He died 950 years, but we're done with Noah.
-
Put him over here, you know, file 13, whatever, you know,
-
well, a lot of times what happens, we see this in Genesis.
-
We see this with Jacob. We see this in Genesis 49.
-
I think it is one of the last chapters of Genesis where Jacob
-
is on his deathbed, right? Talk of him as far as directly
-
is about ready to be done. And he calls in all of the 12
-
different sons that he has of the 12 tribes.
-
And he begins to pronounce basically futures and prophecies
-
and pronouncements upon their lives and the lives of the
-
tribes that they are ahead of. That's very similar to the
-
picture that we're having here, right here in Genesis chapter #9
-
of what? What?
-
What Noah is doing here with his three sons.
-
Of, of of. Him and grandson for that
-
matter, Canaan, Shem and Jacob. Notice now it was Noah that
-
cursed Canaan. It doesn't say that God cursed
-
Canaan, but Noah did. And so again, that it's awful
-
and interesting that these are Noah's first recorded words.
-
Bless his heart. I mean, you really?
-
This really had to tip Noah off, that through all of this mess,
-
we don't have no recorded word of him.
-
But the moment there is, it's because you said something about
-
me being naked in the privacy of my tent.
-
I'm just saying that it kind of, you know, shines a light
-
somewhere. And so here he is, Noah's words.
-
I know it's curse and blessing, but they might be better viewed
-
as as being prophecy or pronouncement.
-
Up up upon his children, Noah declared future things.
-
Just as Jacob did some future things according to the
-
character that he saw in the one that was standing before him,
-
There's a lot of the things that was even spoken from Jake Jacob
-
later in Genesis about his individual sons that mirrored or
-
tongue and grood with the character that they had lived
-
before their father. And so he could say some, he
-
could say something about their future based upon where they
-
were right then. And so Noah is doing something
-
very similar right here in the scripture.
-
He's going to speak about these boys, these these grand boys.
-
Now here's the thing. Ham is the father of Canaan.
-
Canaan is cursed by Noah. Now listen, Genesis, Exodus,
-
Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, we all, most scholars would
-
agree that these are the writings of, of, of Moses.
-
Moses pinned these things. But Moses was not present in
-
Genesis. All right, So the Genesis record
-
is written much later than when it occurred.
-
And with that, Moses has insight of what's coming or what had
-
come. As he goes back and writes and
-
no doubt the inspiration of the Holy Ghost leading him and
-
guiding him as he's doing this insomuch that there are
-
connections, just stay with me. There are connections that are
-
being made about what we would understand in the future that's
-
still going to take place from Genesis forward.
-
That's going to unfold in. Scripture.
-
What are you saying Ham's descendant was Canaan?
-
When we get next week to Genesis chapter #10 you're going to
-
realize that Canaan is linked to being the ancestor then of the
-
Canaanite tribes that were in the promised land.
-
When you start reading of the different descendants of Canaan,
-
you're going to start. Noticing some names in there, a
-
man that is people that the children of Israel contended
-
with when they went into the promised land.
-
So Canaan is the ancestor of the Canaanites that would be in the
-
promised land. Remember when the children of
-
Israel then are finally entering that land of Canaan where these
-
Canaanites were, there was a, a, a, a plea over them that you go
-
in and you destroy their altars, you destroyed the people, you
-
snub them all out. We know according to the book of
-
Joshua, that didn't completely happen.
-
There were some that remained in the land.
-
And yet the Bible conveys to us that those that did remain in
-
the land, they were made tributaries, or if you will,
-
they were made servants, right? Because a tributary feeds into
-
another body of water. Amen.
-
And so the Canaanites were made tributaries to Israel.
-
All right. They were made to serve Israel
-
in some regards. As a matter of fact, Joshua was
-
going over and it's whenever the Gibeonites come over when it
-
acted like they were from a real distant land and our our bread
-
is Moody and our garments are tattered.
-
You were from far away when they were just like a few days
-
journey from where they were. And whenever he found out that
-
they were a part of that clan, a man of that Canaan land, he
-
said, well, here's what we're going to do.
-
We're going to make them drawlers of water and hewers of
-
wood. What?
-
There will be servants, they'll be servants to us.
-
That notes really what Noah prophesied for Canaan.
-
He said Canaan, you're going to be a servant unto Shem.
-
You'll be a servant unto Jephthah, you will be a servants
-
of servants to your brethren. What's interesting about this
-
again, we only have so many selves right now, right says
-
you're going to be servants of servants to your brethren.
-
Well, what are we talking about? Well, we get in the next week
-
the descendants of Shem, the word Shem in Hebrew,
-
transliterated Shem is name. From Shem's line will come the
-
Jewish people. From Shem you'll trace Shem all
-
the way to Abraham, who is the father of the Jews.
-
The people of the name Noah makes a pronouncement.
-
Canaan, you're cursed. You will serve your brethren.
-
We get to promised land, a chin of Israel going to the land of
-
Canaan. And those they don't destroy,
-
guess what's happening? They're made the servants of the
-
Jewish. People, they made the servants.
-
Of that line of father Abraham and then there's Japheth the
-
other son. He says he's going to enlarge
-
him and he is an ancestor of a good other portion of the other
-
Gentile nations beyond the Canaanites and it.
-
Says in verse #27 It says that Japheth will be dwelling in the
-
tents of Shem. That is, that Noah really had a
-
spirit of prophecy upon him. Japheth, these other Gentile
-
nations will be dwelling in your tents.
-
What? What?
-
What are we talking about? Well, if Shem is the Jewish
-
people, the nation of Israel, God's chosen, the people.
-
Of the name you get all the way in the New Testament scripture
-
what happens with the Gentile nations concerning Israel.
-
Bible says they are grafted in. In essence, the Gentiles are now
-
because of the New Testament Testament.
-
Now can become dwellers in the tents of the people of God.
-
Amen. The Bible says in Ephesians 3
-
and verse number six that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs.
-
We're not separate now. It's not Gentile.
-
Didn't know they're they're fellow heirs with what?
-
With Israel, Fellow heirs with the people of God.
-
Fellow heirs with the people of the name and of the same body.
-
And partakers of his promise in Christ.
-
By the gospel folks. The reality of that was in seed
-
form from Noah's mouth in Genesis 9 in the New Testament.
-
Then we have salvation that comes to every division of the
-
post flood family in Noah. Because when you have the
-
Ethiopian eunuch of Acts chapter #8 that receives salvation, you
-
have the line of Ham. When you have Acts chapter #9
-
with the Apostle Paul, you have the line of Shem.
-
When you have Acts chapter #10 with Cornelius of the Italian
-
band, who was a Gentile, you have the line of Jacob.
-
Every division known to mankind right after the flood are saved
-
in the book of Acts, because Christ fulfilled it all.
-
Stay with me right now. So Noah lives to be 950 years,
-
few years short of Methuselah. And about 2/3 of his life was
-
lived before the flood. About a third of his life was
-
lived after the flood. And yet Brother Mike Williams
-
years and years ago preached the sermon.
-
And it's important to realize that after the flood, Noah still
-
had 350 years of living after the flood.
-
Meaning whatever you go through, there's life on the other side
-
of that. Just as Job seen his children's
-
children to what, the 4th generation?
-
I think 120 years he lived after all that decimated his life.
-
So whatever you're going through right now, have hope.
-
There's life after you fill in the blank.
-
There's life after whatever it may be.
-
And so this is Noah's. This is Noah's legacy.
-
It's in his children. It will continue next week.
-
We'll look at it as many as do or don't.
-
Chapter 10, what's known as the table of the nations, because
-
this is where the populace of the world today.
-
This is where we all sprouted from.
-
This is where we all sprouted from all over the world.
-
Amen. But it's going to be serving us
-
again, another, another purpose. It's getting us further
-
connected to Noah, or not Noah, but Abraham, because that's
-
where we'll be going then in chapter 12.
-
And we have, of course, the tower of Babel in Chapter 11,
-
but we might not get the Babel, might not get the Babel, this,
-
this, this realm, but we will eventually bless the Lord, Amen.
-
Let's bow our heads today. Father, I'm so thankful, Lord
-
Jesus, for your word. Help me, Lord God, to take the
-
truths, Lord Jesus, of your word.
-
God, those areas, God that can be applicable, Lord, to my own
-
life and God to apply them. I pray, O Lord Jesus, this is
-
more about than God just say a chapter.
-
It's about broadening our whole mindset of the Bible and seeing
-
how it interconnects from beginning to end.
-
Though devised the Lord just written by several different
-
authors over different areas of time.
-
Lord, this this is a very one author God ordained book.
-
Lord, I pray God that could not be done any other way if it had
-
not been God breed. I pray, Oh Lord, help us to
-
appreciate that in that regard, Lord and thank you Lord Jesus
-
for sharing it with us and the lovely name of Jesus Christ that
-
I pray Amen and Amen and the church say Amen.
-
God bless you tonight in Jesus name again Friday mobile food
-
distribution starting here at 12 and it could go for a while.
-
There is if anybody asks, I think some Flyers got out with
-
household things. There is household requirement
-
as far as income or things like that.
-
Whosoever will so Amen. Hey, and on a side note, this
-
month, if you haven't realized, this month we have fed the
-
firefighters just Monday night. We have blitzed all the schools
-
with food during teacher appreciation week.
-
We have paid around $1000 for some high school students for
-
their fees. We have, we have paid about
-
$1000. We've had several different
-
students, we've paid about $1000 so that they could walk across
-
this the the stage at graduation.
-
So when you don't think nothing's going on, there's
-
stuff going on. All right, And so applaud you,
-
Amen, for your participation, your giving your so and so forth
-
in order to make those things happen.
-
And this Friday is just another thing that's been taking place
-
this month. So God bless you all.
-
God bless. Amen, our community.
