  1. Can we magnify the Lord right now?

  2. Can you lift your eyes to him and magnify him, looking unto

  3. Jesus, the Author, the finisher of our faith?

  4. Hallelujah, Jesus, when my strength is gone, your strength

  5. is perfect, God. When I don't have the energy,

  6. Lord, to lift my head, you're the lifter of my head.

  7. Hallelujah, fine, Lord, Consolation in you.

  8. Find consolation in you, Jesus. Hallelujah, Lord.

  9. Hallelujah, Lord. Hallelujah, Lord.

  10. Sweep over my soul, sweet spirit, sweep over my soul.

  11. Oh. Oh.

  12. Amen. Can we raise our hands one more

  13. time and be mindful of the Lord? I love you, Jesus.

  14. I appreciate you, Lord. Oh Lord, you're all together

  15. lovely Father, You're kind, You're compassionate, you're

  16. mindful. Hallelujah, Hallelujah,

  17. Hallelujah. Glory be to your name.

  18. Glory be to your name. Glory be to your name.

  19. Glory be to your name, Thank you, Jesus, thank you, Jesus.

  20. Hallelujah. Such a good God, such a good

  21. God, Amen. He loves us, oh how he loves us,

  22. Amen. Tonight, Amen.

  23. If you'll stand with me here this evening, we'll turn to the

  24. Book of Psalms, chapter 139. The Book of Psalms chapter 139.

Psalms 139 chapter mention Psalms 139 chapter mention

  25. Amen. This evening going to read a few

  26. verses of scripture. First 3 verses.

  27. The Bible says the psalmist in particular.

  28. David, O Lord, thou has searched me and know me.

  29. Thou knowest my down sitting and my uprising.

  30. Thou understandest my thought afar off.

  31. Please note verse 3. This is like a key verse for me

  32. tonight. Thou compasseth my path and my

  33. lying down, not acquainted with all my ways.

  34. I don't know if this is a like regular fair Sunday night

  35. sermon, but I'm not regular. But I have felt instructed this

  36. week to minister along these lines, and I think it's

  37. important I maybe this year maybe more than any time of

  38. year, right? With all the hustle and the

  39. bustle, I feel like I need a minister tonight.

  40. He sees me rest. He sees me rest Amen.

  41. I hope to help somebody tonight. He sees me rest.

  42. Hallelujah. Let's talk to him right now.

  43. Father, I love you. God, this is not my word.

  44. It's your words. God, this isn't my service.

  45. It's your service. God, we congregate together

  46. tonight, Lord, around your spirit.

  47. We congregate, Lord, around your word.

  48. And I, I pray, O God, your word would find us.

  49. God, find someone this evening. God, encourage, instruct God

  50. just to give Lord the latitude. Lord Jesus, perhaps God,

  51. whatever Lord, preconceived notions, the thoughts, God that

  52. may have about certain things that you could, Lord just pull

  53. back the cover on something and see Lord of peace, God of place,

  54. the Lord of security, Lord of confinement, Lord in you I pray,

  55. Lord, let your spirit speak, Lord through your word and we

  56. will not be disappointed. God in what you say and what you

  57. convey. Lord in this place tonight God

  58. will thank you for it in Jesus name that I pray someone say

  59. man, you may be seated tonight. He sees me rest.

  60. Psalms 139 is like some of those other popular chapters of the

  61. book of Psalms. I would place it alongside there

  62. like a Psalms 23. It's one that that people favor

  63. some that people have taken to be a Psalm and to themself.

  64. I know years ago, I believe it was my wife's grandmother kind

  65. of dedicated that Psalm as saying, Dawn, this is your your

  66. Psalm. So it's a favorite Psalm.

  67. People are familiar with some of the phrasings of this Psalm that

  68. highlights really God's omniscience and God's

  69. omnipresence. David marvels throughout this

  70. Psalm. He marvels at God's knowledge of

  71. him. Every thought that David had,

  72. every word that he spoke, every action that he involved himself

  73. in, he relates to us that God had knowledge of all of that.

  74. Whenever you begin to think of that, that's almost

  75. incomprehensible, that God would, and I know he's God, that

  76. we understand our earthly limitations.

  77. No one per say no and every word, thought and action of our

  78. life. But God does.

  79. And David illustrates that to us.

  80. And when you take that and you pair that then with the reality

  81. that God is wherever you're there is, then that also is mind

  82. blowing just to put those two things together, that there's

  83. not a place that we can go that we can escape God's presence,

  84. whether in heaven or the depths of the earth or the far reaches

  85. of the sea. He says I am there.

  86. And then you, you, you pair with that then to ponder that the

  87. creator of the universe involved himself in all the details and

  88. all the intricacies of your formation, in your development,

  89. in your mother's womb. And that, that's quite humbling

  90. to me and at the same time inspiring to me.

  91. And so as you read through Psalms 139, it's nothing more

  92. but a profound reminder that God has a very much so intimate

  93. involvement in every detail of our lives.

  94. He said in verse 3, which is the key for us tonight.

  95. David says he compasseth my path of the versions of the same

  96. scripture says that he scrutinizes my path or that he

  97. sifts and searches out my path. One version even says God, you

  98. observe my travels and my rest and you are aware of all of my

  99. ways. I believe it is vital tonight to

  100. understand that this all knowing, ever present God isn't

  101. just solely interested in where I go and the roads I take in

  102. order to get there, but He is also interested in my lying

  103. down. He is interested in our rest.

  104. Our rest is even subjected to some of the closest and most

  105. discriminating investigation by our God.

  106. I know that's hard for us to really wrestle with and to

  107. somehow compute in our minds, but God knows when we rest and

  108. how. David even says he observes it.

  109. He set the pattern for it in the very beginning by blessing and

  110. by sanctifying the 7th day of creation and making it holy.

  111. That wasn't an act of necessity for God in order to have the 7th

  112. day. God does not grow weary.

  113. God does not become tired. But He left that for us, for

  114. humanity, an example for us to follow.

  115. He was in two instituting in the creation story a spiritual might

  116. I even say, if not only physical but a spiritual rhythm of of

  117. sorts of rest. Even as David shepherd in the

  118. psalms 23 the Lord is my shepherd.

  119. I shall not want you get to verse 2 and David talking about

  120. his shepherd being God said that he maketh me lie down in green

  121. pastures. What I'm saying tonight is that

  122. rest was not an afterthought for God, but it was a integral part

  123. of the creative order of God, that holy pause right when all

  124. of the completion of the work of creation had taken place.

  125. He says that let's sanctify and bless a day for rest.

  126. The Psalm was said in Psalms 4 and verse 8.

  127. He says I will both lay me down in peace and sleep for thou,

  128. Lord, only make us me dwell in safety.

  129. In other words, folks, when we rest, there is trust in resting.

  130. I know, I know the generation. I'm talking to me tonight,

  131. right? I'm talking to Pastor McGee.

  132. I'm talking to those of us that are always busy, always going,

  133. always doing. And even if we have opportunity

  134. not to do, we feel bad about not doing.

  135. I'll just preach to the preacher tonight, Amen.

  136. But God knows rest, Amen. There's a trust in rest because

  137. the trust in rest is this, that I can lay down in peace and

  138. sleep and my family will still be protected.

  139. I can lay down in peace and sleep and the job's going to

  140. continue whether I'm there or not.

  141. I can rest and the earth is not going to hesitate in one bit of

  142. its orbit, Amen, at all. Because I can just trust and

  143. dwell in safety. Because I know the Lord can make

  144. me dwell in safety. Because when I rest, I affirm

  145. that everything that goes on in my life and everything that goes

  146. on in the lives of those that I'm attached to doesn't all

  147. depend upon me and my doing. Amen.

  148. It doesn't all depend upon me. So when I rest, and since

  149. there's a major of trust in that, when I rest, I worship

  150. because it doesn't depend upon Paul and it doesn't depend upon

  151. what Paul can do, I trust. And in that trust is a major of

  152. worship of a higher power that's in control of it all.

  153. That sets the sun and causes it to rise.

  154. When I rest, God pays attention. When I rest, I trust the one who

  155. the Bible says never sleeps and never slumbers.

  156. Amen. And I know there's a mixed bag

  157. of there's some of you have no problem resting and I'm I'm, I

  158. have no problem with that. But there's others that feel

  159. vulnerable whenever they rest. They feel bad whenever they

  160. rest. Like I I know I tell myself it's

  161. something I've gotten a little better with as I gotten older,

  162. to be able to just take time and pause and stop and rest.

  163. But God included that very thing in the creative order came in.

  164. In other words, God made that a part of the luminaries and and

  165. the animals that were made and man being made and female being

  166. made and the distinction. You know, you don't want to mess

  167. with any of those things because if you do, it gets real messy.

  168. But we all the time, we all the time mismanage the rest aspect

  169. of creation. I told you this ain't a normal

  170. Sunday night thing, but we do that sometimes.

  171. The biggest, the biggest, something that we can do is

  172. nothing. I remove myself from activity,

  173. the affairs of this life, and I put my total dependence on God.

  174. Again, that's worship. That means this omniscient God

  175. who is all knowing knows when I rest, and his Omni presence

  176. tells me that he's there when I do rest.

  177. He's interested in every aspect of my life.

  178. We see it over and over again. We see it then in the

  179. commandment in Exodus chapter #20 The Sabbath commandment

  180. reinforces the divine pattern of remember the Sabbath day to keep

  181. it holy, observe a day of rest. Israel had to acknowledge their

  182. dependence on God rather than their effort.

  183. And tragically, Israeli neglect of rest and the lands Sabbath of

  184. rest 'cause them to go into exile because they forgot the

  185. pattern of taking time to rest. Because when we tamper with

  186. those things, including rest, it causes disorder, if you will.

  187. Rest isn't a luxury. Listen, according to God's word,

  188. rest isn't a luxury. Rest is a commandment.

  189. Maybe I'll just get let me pull out the other one.

  190. We'll get down here and I'll just teach for the next 30

  191. minutes. It's not a luxury.

  192. It's a commandment and according to creation, a blessing.

  193. Do, do, do, do for God. Do, do, do, do for God.

  194. One of the tick boxes you need to check off is rest.

  195. Mary has taken that good part, he told Martha, who's covered

  196. about with many things. Mary has taken that good part

  197. that will not be taken away from her.

  198. Rest, someone say rest. Sometimes there's periodic times

  199. of not doing anything and then doing so.

  200. We're fulfilling the word of the Lord.

  201. I want to present a story to you tonight, one that you're quite

  202. familiar with from Judges chapter #16 because hear me

  203. well. And, and, and, and, and this,

  204. this is the story course of Samson's sister McGee.

  205. This wasn't from this morning preaching that I had some guy

  206. preaching. He was touching on Samson.

  207. This was already in my spirit before he ever got there.

  208. But Judges chapter #16 in reality, and just follow me here

  209. for a few minutes, illustrates the danger of a restless life.

  210. Samson was a man we know of extraordinary strength, caught

  211. by God, yes, for a special purpose, for a special plan.

  212. His parents were told that he would begin to deliver Israel

  213. from the hands of the Philistines.

  214. And whenever we think of his story, most people think of the

  215. latter portion of his story, and we think of the seduction.

  216. What we say is the seduction of Delilah toward Samson.

  217. And we assume, thinking of this seduction, we often think that

  218. Delilah must have been some sexy broad.

  219. She must have been one eye full of a woman.

  220. I'm telling you what, In order to seduce and be persuasive and

  221. find where in his strength like she had to be something for that

  222. matter, she was employed, according to the Bible, by the

  223. Lords of the Philistines to entice him.

  224. And whenever she did this, this wasn't a dry run for her.

  225. This wasn't a cold call for her, because the Bible already tells

  226. us prior to this that Samson loved her.

  227. All right, But Delilah's name means feeble.

  228. Now you'd reach scholars. I don't agree with these

  229. scholars because they say her name meets feeble, because she

  230. made Simpson feeble. I've studied the Bible for too

  231. many years, folks. Almost as far as I know, in

  232. every instance where a person has a name, their name is a

  233. description of them, Their character is everybody.

  234. All right. And so her name means feeble.

  235. Someone say feeble. In other words, this feebleness

  236. quite possibly is a characteristic of Delilah

  237. herself. And if that's the case, as a

  238. matter of fact, if you read through the judges account,

  239. there's nothing there that says anything about her appearance.

  240. Nothing at all anything there that says anything about her

  241. appearance. And so as I was thinking on this

  242. this week, Sister Sam, I thought, if this is the case

  243. then #1 why does Simpson love her just OK and #2 how in the

  244. world is she going to entice him?

  245. Now I know number one Sister Sheila, and we took her to

  246. Simpson has a little bit of a woman problem.

  247. Anyway, throughout the story of Judges just a few chapters, we

  248. see that he had three different women.

  249. We understand that relations with women were a weakness.

  250. All right, I get that. But there is another aspect as

  251. well and that is that Samson lived a life of conflict and

  252. over exertion. Let me say it like this.

  253. He did not take time. Forrest followed me here

  254. tonight. And so here's Samson you read in

  255. these few chapters. He's traveling here and there.

  256. He's traveling over in the Philistine because every woman

  257. that he liked was a Philistine. We could talk about that.

  258. But anyway, every woman he liked was a Philistine.

  259. So he's traveling over there and back.

  260. He's trying to hold the the interest of women folks.

  261. That's a full time job right within itself.

  262. And three, three different ones at different times.

  263. That's heavy stuff. Hey, man, so he's doing that.

  264. But then you look at the different things that he's doing

  265. in his life. He kills a lion with his bare

  266. hands. He makes a Riddle, Amen, and

  267. tells a few men that he would promise them a prize if they

  268. could get the Riddle right. And when they got the Riddle

  269. right, you know what he had to do?

  270. He had to go kill some folks in order to get their 30 changes of

  271. garments, Amen, in order to give unto them.

  272. The Bible says he caught 300 boxes.

  273. I don't know how long it takes to catch 300 boxes, but he

  274. caught 300 boxes. He would take them in pairs and

  275. tie their tails together and put a torch in them, set it on fire,

  276. and then he let the foxes go into a field of the Philistines

  277. to destroy. The Bible also says that he

  278. killed 1000 men with the jawbone of a donkey.

  279. And if you want to talk about restless nights, he was spending

  280. the night in Gaza and the Bible says he got up at midnight and

  281. carried the heavy gates and the of the city away on his

  282. shoulders because there was an ambush that was awaiting him.

  283. And so I'll tell you tonight why Samson loved Delilah.

  284. Yes. And we know yes, the woman

  285. thing, yes, there could have been sex appeal there.

  286. But the other side to that was this.

  287. She was a place he could rest when has to entice him.

  288. An observant Delilah deserved. What could this man possibly

  289. trade? What what the his knowledge of

  290. where his strength is? What would he give an exchange?

  291. What kind of exchange or trade could be made?

  292. What could Ioffer him that he would give me that in return?

  293. An observant Delilah says rest. You see the binding with the

  294. green widths. You see the binding with the new

  295. ropes. You see the weaving of the locks

  296. of his hair in the weave. You see the shaving of his hair.

  297. All of this seems to happen over a few days.

  298. The Bible says she pressed him daily for the information and

  299. the story has him in Judges 1614 awakening one time and then a

  300. little later the last time when she shaved off his head.

  301. The Bible says that she made him sleep up on her knee.

  302. It seems like each time Amen that he slept, and that was for

  303. a man who typically didn't rest, someone came in.

  304. So the tragedy of the episode of Judges chapter #16 really

  305. reveals this, that Samson's downfall was not just about

  306. temptation, but about a man who ignored a deeper need in his

  307. life as well. Rest someone say man, yeah, he

  308. found it in the wrong place and yes, yes, yes, he needed a

  309. sanctuary of rest. But Delilah says I'll make that

  310. place right here. There's a old poem by by John

  311. Milton that centers around the Simpson story, and one line out

  312. of that poem says this. It says at times when men seek

  313. most repose and rest. I shielded and unlocked her all

  314. my heart. I tell you a restless world.

  315. Amen need rest. But The thing is, you'll be

  316. offered counterfeit rest. You'll be offered counterfeit

  317. rest there. There can be distractions and

  318. escapism that are counterfeit rest.

  319. What you need is the rest we're in the weary can rest.

  320. You need the rest that can only come from God.

  321. You need the rest that is a trusting in Him and a worship in

  322. him while resting. Hey man, you need a restorative

  323. rest. Excuse me when I rest.

  324. I'm going to say this. Say this all of us.

  325. We are too busy. We are too busy.

  326. I told my wife the other day and I think I even told my mom this

  327. morning. I have a love hate relationship

  328. with this time of year, all the other obligations that get put

  329. on the plate, the things you feel like you have to be at.

  330. And in our world, this is the way that it is.

  331. It is created the modern life just of the world.

  332. And this is the way that society has made it that it's almost a

  333. badge of honor to be busy. I'm sorry, folks, I apologize.

  334. I'm sorry you haven't endured this, but it's a badge of honor

  335. to be busy because the greatest thing that you can say whenever

  336. you enter a conversation, well, how you going, how your things

  337. going, how you doing? I tell you what, you know how it

  338. is. It's just busy, huh?

  339. Because we society has equated busyness with importance and

  340. everybody wants to feel important.

  341. So if I'm not as busy as the next one, maybe I'm lying.

  342. If I'm like, if I'm lying, I'm dying.

  343. I'm telling you the truth today. There is this this mode of of

  344. pride and there's mode of importance and impressiveness

  345. just to be able to say, you know what, I'm busy and someone tells

  346. you what's been going on in their life and it's like the

  347. Topper family, you know? Well, yeah, I understand why I

  348. had XY and Z and this and that to do and it my scheduled from

  349. the time I got, I didn't get to bed till such such hanging up at

  350. 4:00. You know, it's just busy, busy.

  351. And I understand there might be some truthfulness in all of

  352. that. But folks, if that's the way we

  353. live, we're going to succumb to the same era of Samson until we

  354. might be laying a lap. We don't need to lay in because

  355. you need to honor the blessing and the commandment of God.

  356. You got to rest. He observes that God.

  357. Do you see what I'm doing? Yes, but he wants you to know

  358. when you're not doing. I see that too.

  359. I would I would hate to think someday that that that that I I

  360. miss my chance and opportunity for heaven because I always did

  361. something for God and in my doing was not just resting and

  362. trusting. I'm not telling you to be lazy.

  363. I'm not telling you that at all. Someone say man restless Dr. A

  364. restless Dr. comes out of cost comes out of cost to your health

  365. might come at a cost to your family.

  366. That's right. Come on.

  367. As a matter of fact, a life that never has any rest.

  368. Guess what? It's just a form of slavery

  369. because a slave slave has no control when he goes to work,

  370. when he goes to bed, or what he does, he's told when to do all

  371. those. We become slaves to our

  372. schedule, slaves to our ambition, slave to all of our

  373. social expectations. Rest is not weakness.

  374. I read a book, it's now been several years ago, called

  375. Addicted to Busy. It said rest, it turns out, is a

  376. condition of liberty. What's that mean?

  377. I can choose to stop. I can choose to pause.

  378. I can choose to back away. I can choose to say no.

  379. So it's Amen. You know where Samson made a

  380. faux pas. Rest may very well multiply your

  381. reach and your effectiveness. That's counter thinking in it.

  382. No, I got to do. If I don't do it, nobody's going

  383. to be doing it. You understand what I'm doing.

  384. I got to get this done. I, I, I live that life.

  385. I hate for somebody to mess with my Monday.

  386. I got certain things I want to get done.

  387. Matter of fact, I see people in the store sometimes they

  388. probably want a longer conversation.

  389. But my high and bias is quite quick because I got things to do

  390. and I want them all done in this day.

  391. But we read in Scripture that there was also another man of

  392. God, the man of God that suddenly make his entrance into

  393. Scripture, the biblical narrative.

  394. He enters into the courts of Ahab.

  395. He gives a prophecy and says by my words.

  396. He said the heavens are going to be shut up.

  397. And he goes and camps by a brook called Cherith God, that thing

  398. dries up. He goes to Zarah path, Amen.

  399. He sustains and helps sustain a woman and her son.

  400. There the widow's son dies. He raises him back to life.

  401. Ministry is happening all along this grand journey.

  402. Amen of his life and ministry. He appears then single handedly

  403. on the mount called Carmel. He's fighting, seemingly by

  404. himself, concerning another human being against the 450

  405. prophets of Baal, the 400 prophets of the Grove.

  406. God uses him mightily and significantly.

  407. And then he prophesized. I hear the sound of the

  408. abundance of rain. This 3 1/2 year drought is going

  409. to be over. He outruns the chariot and then

  410. Jezebel threatens him when it's all over in first Kings 19 and

  411. two, she says, so let the gods do to me more.

  412. Also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them, one of

  413. the prophets by tomorrow, about this time, look what happens.

  414. He leaves all of that. He gets alone.

  415. He even leaves the servant he travels with.

  416. He goes to a wilderness, he crawls under a juniper tree and

  417. he falls asleep. An Angel comes over and taps and

  418. says, hey bro, eat and drink. It's in scripture.

  419. Eat and drink. Look at it 5:00 and 6:00, will

  420. you? Aiden of 19.

  421. And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an

  422. Angel touched him, and said unto him, arising, verse 6.

  423. And he looked, and behold, there was a cake bacon on the coast,

  424. and a cruise of water at his head.

  425. And he did eat and drink, and look, and laid him down again.

  426. That sorry sack supposed to be a prophet of God.

  427. All he's doing is laying down, getting up, eating, and then he

  428. had the audacity to lay down again.

  429. You know what? It's note to see what scripture

  430. doesn't say just as much as what it says.

  431. But when the Angel found him sleeping under the juniper tree,

  432. he did not tap him. Say hey wake up bro, you need to

  433. get busy. He said no, eat and drink.

  434. And he didn't raise a finger when he fell back to sleep.

  435. Prophet been doing all kinds of great exploits, but he knew, you

  436. know what he realized? Yeah.

  437. That threat came from Jezebel. I believe there was something.

  438. I know sometimes we say, well, yeah, he was the only one.

  439. He felt like he was the only one.

  440. And he did. And that comes with restlessness

  441. too. Tiredness.

  442. You feel like you're the only one, right?

  443. Well, it was me. You get all these type of

  444. things, but not that There was something inside of him that I

  445. believe he knew this. I can't go on doing what I'm

  446. doing and look what the Bible says.

  447. As he slept, he wakes up to a cruise of water and bread bacon

  448. on the coast. He didn't do that, but in his

  449. rest was a trust. I don't have to go out here in

  450. the wilderness somewhere and find game and kill it for my

  451. food. And his rest was trust.

  452. I'm going to lay down. I really don't know what the

  453. outcome of all this is going to be.

  454. I really don't know how this is all going to turn out.

  455. I really don't know where my next meal is coming from.

  456. I really don't know where the next Brook's going to be at.

  457. But I got a rest right now. And in that rest was a trust,

  458. was a worship. And while he was sleeping, God

  459. was doing while he was sleeping, God so his rest.

  460. Well, yes. What?

  461. What did Jesus say in the Gospels?

  462. Take no thought of what you'll eat or what you'll drink or what

  463. you'll wear. You know what he's telling

  464. humanity somewhere along the line you need to trust.

  465. We get problems in our life and we're like, this thing isn't

  466. going to get fixed unless I fix it.

  467. That isn't always the case. Sometimes it gets so bad, God's

  468. got to point out to you, he can do it without you.

  469. He observes my travels and he observes my rest.

  470. Someone say man. After everybody say after

  471. Elijah's had food and drink and probably a well past due time of

  472. rest. After some of Elijah's most

  473. instrumental actions took place in his life, after that time of

  474. rest, after his whole cave experience, God wasn't in the

  475. fire, He wasn't in the wind, He wasn't in the earthquake.

  476. He's in that still small voice. And that voice spoke to him and

  477. said, Elijah, it's not all over. Can I just say it for for my

  478. purposes, Like Elijah, it's not over.

  479. You just needed rest. I know Jezebel is is touting and

  480. speaking what she's speaking and she's like gloom doom, you know,

  481. prophet despair. She going to take you out.

  482. He said, but but it's not all bad.

  483. You just needed some rest. And you know what he told him?

  484. He says here's what I want you to do.

  485. He says, I want you to go to Jehu and I want you to anoint

  486. him to be the next king. And I want you to go to Elisha

  487. and anoint him to be the prophet in your stead.

  488. Both of those things happened after a season of rest.

  489. And do you know the person that he went to anoint King Jehu?

  490. You know who Jehu is? Jehu is the one that when he

  491. learns about Jezebel and all of her antics, he goes on a horse

  492. and he is riding feverishly toward the city.

  493. And he's looking up. And there's Jezebel.

  494. She's teared her head. She has herself all done up.

  495. Amen. And he cries out to some of the

  496. eunuchs up there. And he says, hey, would you mind

  497. throwing her down? What are you saying?

  498. Elijah anointed the man that took out his Jezebel and it

  499. happened that direction that Titans happened.

  500. After a season of rest, God can take care of it.

  501. God can take care of it. When you rest, you trust, you

  502. worship. God

  503. anointed Elisha in his stead. That would carry on his ministry

  504. and according to scripture, do almost twice as many miracles as

  505. Elijah had done. All of this came after a season

  506. of rest. You don't want to talk about

  507. that doing Jesus, someone say Jesus.

  508. You want to talk about having constant demands on your

  509. ministry, Jesus flesh and blood human form.

  510. I mean you didn't have ladies going through a crowd just to

  511. touch the hem of his garment. But even he if he's to be our

  512. model brother Trout was intentional about rest.

  513. Luke 5 and verse 15 and 16 says, And this is Jesus has just

  514. cleansed the leper. It says, but so much the more

  515. went there a fame abroad of Him Speaking of Jesus, and great

  516. multitudes came together to hear and to be healed by Him of their

  517. infirmities. Verse 16, look at his reaction.

  518. And he withdrew himself into the wilderness and prayed, wait,

  519. wait, wait, wait a minute. I got to get this straight.

  520. I got to get this straight. You're telling me his fame went

  521. out and as a result of the fame, a big group of people came about

  522. wanting to be healed and touched.

  523. And he says, wait a moment, I need to go rest, Brother McGee.

  524. I just got too many demands, not too many demands to fulfill the

  525. commandment and the blessing of rest.

  526. No, he doesn't wait for the last, the last one in the

  527. multitude to get their healing. He didn't wait for the demand to

  528. subside. But even when it was out of

  529. Apex, he's like, I got to go over here.

  530. Sometimes we think we're only effective if we're doing when we

  531. might be really counterproductive in continuing

  532. to do past our moment of ability of strength and energy and

  533. spiritual relationship. We might need to pause and go

  534. rest and trust, he also said. What does He tell us?

  535. Matthew 1128? Jesus extends the invitation

  536. right beyond himself to all of us.

  537. Come to me, all of you who are weary and burden, and I will

  538. give you proper rest. Isn't just in seizing from

  539. activity, it's finding restoration in Him.

  540. When you read Hebrews chapter #4 and verse 11, the Hebrew writer

  541. said these words, he challenges us, which is this is really

  542. ironic how it almost comes across there.

  543. And do I have that one up there, Aiden?

  544. I don't know if I do, but Hebrews chapter #4 and verse #11

  545. I want, I want to read it out of the Bible.

  546. All right. Hey man, Hebrews 11 and verse #4

  547. I think 411 invert that part of my dyslexia.

  548. I'm joking. If someone really has it, I'm

  549. sorry about that. Amen.

  550. Let us labor therefore to enter into that that is so ironic.

  551. Let us labor, therefore, to enter to that rest, lest any man

  552. fall after the same example of unbelief.

  553. Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest so ironic.

  554. The High Breeze Lighters writer saying I want you to work hard

  555. to rest well. And so we see this principle in

  556. several areas of the Scripture. Even Scripture warriors

  557. understood the significance of rest.

  558. In First Samuel 26, you have Saul and his men that are bedded

  559. down and sleeping for the night. David and his men are across the

  560. way journey and they they found where Saul is right.

  561. And you know, the mindset of all of of David's men at different

  562. times when Saul was in a vulnerable spot.

  563. I'll go over there and knock his head off his shoulders.

  564. You just say the word, we'll kill him.

  565. That was the same talk that was going on this night.

  566. The Bible says, though Saul had his spear by his bolster, which

  567. is just a fancy word for head, he had a spear by his head.

  568. The Spears in that day were made in such a way.

  569. Yeah, they were speared on one side, but on the other end, it

  570. still had a spiked end for the purpose that when a warrior

  571. rested or slept, he could poke that thing down in the ground on

  572. the opposite end by his head. Something the Arabs, the Arabs

  573. did. It's something that even Hebrew

  574. chiefs did. All of that meaning this very

  575. simple. That spike on the end of a spear

  576. meant even this, that even warriors needed times of rest in

  577. the middle of a conflict. I'm in the midst of a conflict.

  578. Yeah, but we designed your spear with a spike on the opposite end

  579. so you can plunge it in the ground as you rest.

  580. If I never intended you as a warrior to rest, I would have

  581. never put it on the opposite end of your spear.

  582. But that was its purpose. Because even warriors, oh Leah,

  583. even warriors need to rest. Stay with me tonight.

  584. I'm convinced this evening that some people I visited in the

  585. hospital before has not been some predisposition from genetic

  586. PNA. It's been a lack of rest that's

  587. caused their heart to get like it did.

  588. The Lord says, I'm going to go to this place over here away,

  589. and I'm going to recalibrate here with prayer.

  590. That was his vice. Maybe that's your vice.

  591. Maybe it's some hobby, whatever. Maybe it's family time.

  592. Maybe it's just solitude. Whatever it is, you need to find

  593. out what it is. I know this ain't shouting

  594. Sunday night, but somebody might live longer after today.

  595. The old time is used to say, I've said, I've said in, in, in,

  596. in spots with pastors and meeting and ministry and stuff

  597. like that. The fact of the matter is this,

  598. what good is it if you expend yourself to the degree that

  599. you're really not worth anything to anybody in the end?

  600. There is a moment, I know there's studies even in the

  601. factory existence, there is a moment where productivity falls

  602. off compared to the number of hours a person works.

  603. It falls off. You're not gaining anything.

  604. All that's hogwash. Listen, I've tried to present

  605. for you tonight. It's a part of the creative

  606. order. It's a commandment.

  607. Jesus practiced it, Elijah did, and some great things happened.

  608. Samson didn't, and the void of it caused him to fall for a

  609. counterfeit. Most of all, He He compasseth my

  610. path in my life down God, who created the universe and keeps

  611. it in rhythm and almost everything that he created.

  612. A certain aspect of rhythm included that day of rest for a

  613. rhythm. You know what we need tonight?

  614. This is where I feel my spirit. We need to have a spirit of

  615. repentance that comes to the altar and says, God forgive me,

  616. we're not resting. Oh, but bring me guys sleep at

  617. night. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,

  618. no, no. I get it.

  619. Like Monday's my day off, quote UN quote.

  620. That's when I go get groceries. That's when I pay my bills.

  621. That's when I mow my lawn. That's when everything else

  622. around my house gets done. That's not a day of rest.

  623. And guess what? Sunday isn't.

  624. Follow me on a Sunday. It's not.

  625. And during this time of year when the church schedules extra

  626. meals at the church, I'm just there may be a a year in the

  627. near future. We don't have any of that stuff

  628. in the month of December, just because you already have enough

  629. of that stuff. It's looking for the calendar

  630. when the holy pause comes right at the end of the year.

  631. Just being serious. You, you all heard me.

  632. A few years ago, we had a candlelight service.

  633. I stood up there and we went to some magical little thing that

  634. the high school was putting on. And I sat there by my wife and I

  635. looked over at her and it was later in the month and I said, I

  636. finally feel like maybe it's Christmas.

  637. Why? Because there was a pause to

  638. rest. It's hard to reflect when you're

  639. doing. It's hard to remember and recall

  640. when you're doing. A lot of times that takes rest.

  641. How could, how could that that that finally whenever they

  642. reached that mount of God and the law was given to the

  643. children of Israel after they came out of Egypt, he would say

  644. to them, remember the Lord thy God, because now they had the

  645. opportunity. They weren't slaves.

  646. They could rest. Bow our heads across this place

  647. again. I implored thee to come to this

  648. altar tonight and just start a prayer of repentance and say,

  649. God, I'm sorry for not taking time to rest.

  650. And the keyword is taking it. It will not always be afforded

  651. to you. You got to take it.

  652. You got to take it. Oh God, Oh God.

  653. Oh God, Oh God, Oh God. You see my you see my paths, you

  654. observe them, you scrutinize them, you sift through them.

  655. But equally, you see my lying down.

  656. You see my lying down Holy Spirit God, oh God, bring

  657. healing and rest. Bring healing and rest God, to

  658. weary souls and lives that are just physically expended.

  659. God bring a rest God repair Lord broken down bodies and repair

  660. God. I pray Jesus stressed out and

  661. extended Lord cardiovascular Lord's systems and pulmonary

  662. systems because we have betrayed the commandment to rest.

  663. Hallelujah, Jesus rather than sister Mason, come on church,

  664. talk to God. Oh, I've just just never had a

  665. pastor someone tell me to rest. I'm telling you tonight, you

  666. need to find a rhythm of rest in your life.

  667. It's biblical, it's biblical, it's spiritual and it's putting

  668. trust in the one who really has it all in the palm of your hand.

  669. Listen, Sir, listen friend, it doesn't all depend upon you.

  670. It doesn't all depend upon you. I would be a little too proud to

  671. think that it does. It doesn't all depend upon me.

  672. God, I need that rest. I'm coming into you tonight.

  673. You said come, I'm coming into you tonight.

  674. You have one time. In the New Testament scripture,

  675. he told his disciples, he says, let's come apart to a solitary

  676. place. They've been doing all kinds of

  677. ministry. He said, let's come apart to a

  678. solitary place. Why?

  679. They needed to rest. He said.

  680. We got to make this a part of the mode and the rhythm of life.

  681. It's got to be a part of it. Listen, your family needs it to

  682. be a part of it, Father and mothers, your children need it

  683. to be a part of it. Some of your sanity and mental

  684. health needs rest to be a part of it.

  685. Let's talk to God. Let's talk to God.
