He lives, he lives, he lives Amen and because he does the old
-
hymns as I can face Amen tomorrow as a result of that
-
Amen don't want to go Amen without him.
-
Moses said Lord, we we don't want to go up hit her except
-
thou go with us, Amen except thou go with us.
-
And so I want him to be with me. I need him in my today, thankful
-
that he was in my yesterday, but I need him for my tomorrow,
-
Amen, as well. Hallelujah.
-
We're going to be turning to what?
-
You got it. Let's stand tonight, Amen.
-
We'll be turning to Genesis, the glory.
-
Amen, Hallelujah. You know, I'm going to be
-
reading from 2 chapters tonight, both from the book of Genesis,
-
Genesis chapter #45 matter of fact, you might as well just
-
just let your Bible lay open to the book of Genesis tonight.
-
Amen. Genesis 45.
-
Amen. I'm going to read a verse there
-
and also be reading from verse 46 or chapter 46.
-
And brother Zach, if you don't mind, I'm going to be grabbing
-
verse 1/2 just for out of out of here to be get started.
-
I know it's somewhere in that list of scriptures later as
-
well, but let's just touch it. Let's just give it a kiss here
-
right as we get started. OK, Amen.
-
Genesis chapter 45 and verse #20 Amen.
Genesis 45 chapter mention
-
We'll read here this evening. This is all the story of Jacob
-
and Joseph and those 12 tribes or 12 brothers of, of sons
-
rather of Jacob. And just kind of set the thing
-
because I know we're kind of jumping into a story here, but
-
Joseph has been gone for many years, as you know.
-
He's went through being sowed into the slavery, been in the
-
the pit, so to speak. He's been in prison and he's
-
arose now to second command of Israel.
-
Famine is in the land, right? The brothers are coming to get
-
grain. They've come back for the second
-
time to get grain. Joseph has revealed himself to
-
his brothers. And so now he wants everybody to
-
come to Egypt. All right, So that's the staging
-
of everything. And so this is this what I'm
-
going to read to you is what Egypt what Egypt said.
-
This is what Pharaoh said concerning going and get Jacob
-
and the others and bringing their families.
-
He said in verse 20, and we'll look at other verses of this and
-
more of this will make sense as we go along.
-
But this is what Egypt said of everything that that you bring
-
your little ones, your family, he said in verse 20.
-
Also regard not your. Stuff.
-
For the good of all, the land of Egypt is yours.
-
In chapter #46 we're going to read what Jacob actually did.
-
All right, verse one. I'm just go grab just a little
-
bit there from verse one, brother Alex tonight.
-
And Israel. Israel is Jacob, remember his
-
name was changed. And Israel, chapter 46, verse
-
one. And Israel took his journey with
-
all that he had. Look at verse number six.
-
And they took their cattle and their goods, which they had
-
gotten in the land of Canaan and came to Egypt.
-
Jacob and all his seed with him, his sons, his son's sons with
-
him, his daughters, his son's daughters, and all his seed he
-
brought with him into Egypt. So I want you to see two things
-
here. Egypt says don't regard your
-
stuff. That's what it was told to
-
Jacob. But Jacob, when the trip
-
actually came to be, took all that he had.
-
Because the only way to survive in Egypt is not letting go of
-
some of the things that you have from the promise.
-
And for a little while tonight, I want to minister this Living
-
in Egypt without losing Canaan. Amen.
-
Living in Egypt without losing Canaan.
-
Can we pray right now Father, I thank you Lord for your spirit
-
that we have felt and experienced God in this place
-
today I pray O God emboldened us Lord, through your word and by
-
your word God let it be words of life.
-
Scripture says it is the Lord it's words of instruction.
-
I pray God you're able to captivate our minds right now.
-
Help us God lend a ear to what heaven may say Lord tonight
-
through his word God open myself to it.
-
I need to hear from heaven personally tonight, God, for my
-
own life and my walk and I'll praise you and I thank you Lord,
-
for what you'll do in Jesus name that I pray in the church say
-
Amen, Amen. God bless you tonight in Jesus
-
name. You might want to turn over to
-
John chapter 17 here this evening.
John 17 chapter mention
-
I ask you the question tonight, how, how do you maintain or how
-
do we maintain a biblical identity and biblical scruples?
-
Without assimilating to the environment in which we live, is
-
is isolation. The answer is adopting the
-
worldview of our surroundings. Is that the best course of
-
action for us? In other words, how can we best
-
be in the world and impact our world?
-
Without becoming like the world, Jesus gave us the answer in his
-
High Priestly prayer in John chapter 17.
John 17 chapter mention
-
You can look through that chapter as I'm talking to you
-
tonight, but Jesus is praying of this prayer.
-
It is His flesh that is crying out, if you will, to the Spirit.
-
He's testified that He walked in His earthly ministry and in His
-
earthly ministry He made it His mode of operation of trying to
-
give glory unto God and make God's glory evident in the earth
-
in which he was living. And he even speaks to God in no
-
uncertain terms that God, I made your name known to your
-
disciples. I made your name known unto the
-
world. And Jesus even says at a certain
-
spot, he says, now I'm going to give to this world and these
-
people and those ones that I've rubbed shoulders with God, I'm
-
to give them things that I have received from you.
-
You'll begin to read in the Scripture, like verse #9 that
-
the Bible says that as Jesus prays, he prays for them,
-
Speaking of his disciples. And this is kind of weird and
-
awkward really for us. Says that he prayed for them and
-
not the world, and that that almost takes us back a few
-
steps, you know, for him to pray for his disciples and not for
-
the world. That seems a little peculiar,
-
but His prayer was for those that would still yet be
-
remaining in the world. After He had ascended, after He
-
had translated from glory to glory, so to speak, and was no
-
longer in the world, He was offering up a prayer for those
-
that would still be in the world.
-
And His prayer was this, you see it in verse #11 He was praying
-
that those that were still yet in the world, namely His
-
disciples, that they would be kept.
-
The Bible says right that they would be kept.
-
He he seemed it seemed odd again that he would pray for them and
-
not the world, but he's praying that his disciples would be
-
kept. But the world, if you understand
-
this, the reason why he's doing this is because the world would
-
be left without hope. All right, without hope
-
concerning the message right concerning someone pointing them
-
to the Lord if it had not been for the disciples being kept and
-
keeping the name and propagating the name, fulfilling their
-
mission on the earth. Then as Jesus's hands and feet.
-
So he says I'm going away, but I still need a representation in
-
the earth. And so I'm going to pray for
-
them that they would be kept and that they would propagate your
-
name everywhere they go, and that they would keep.
-
They were to be the agents of change in the New Testament
-
Scripture, in the New Testament world, just as Jesus had been in
-
his earthly ministry. As a matter of fact, as Jesus
-
contemplates his ascension, his believers, he remember he said I
-
am the light of the world. But then he changes and tells
-
them you are the light of the world.
-
You're going to be the agents of change in this world.
-
And so I need them to be kept, and I need them to also keep
-
their association and their identity with me and with my
-
message and with my concepts. And so why?
-
So that they could influence the world in which they are living.
-
Notice what the Scripture says Jesus even says here in John 17.
-
He says, I gave them the word Lord that you gave me.
-
I gave them the same word, the same word that I had, I gave to
-
them. And I want them to tell others
-
about that word in their ministries as I did in my
-
ministries. He wanted them to know you can't
-
propagate or tell another gospel for that matter.
-
Even the apostle Paul said there's not another gospel, He
-
said, So I want them to say the same things that I said.
-
They need to be pan handlers, if you will, of the same message,
-
the same word. And Jesus is quite direct.
-
Look at verse #14 He said they are not of the world, just as
-
I'm not of the world. And he said in verse #15 so
-
Lord, don't take them out of the world, right?
-
He says they're not of it, but don't take them out of it.
-
Verse 18 even tells us He says I've sent them into the world
-
and it's this otherworldliness aspect of the disciples that he
-
wanted to use for the world's advantage.
-
There's something even similar that's spoken in the New
-
Testament scripture. The apostle Paul is, is being
-
rebuked in certain terms by the apostle Peter.
-
The Jews, of course, had this idea that that that to be
-
Christian, you had to be Jewish. There was an idea of that
-
floating down around in their age.
-
To be Christian, you had to be Jewish.
-
And and that's what was being towed to the Gentiles.
-
But that wasn't true. But but the that idea was being
-
shared. And here's what what what Peter
-
said to the apostle Paul in Galatians 214, he says, But when
-
I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth
-
of the Gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou being a
-
Jew liveth after the manner of Gentiles and not as do the Jews,
-
why compel us, thou the Gentiles to live as the Jews?
-
In other words, Paul told Peter, if this idea that everybody's
-
trying to sell that you got to be a Jew, a man in order to be a
-
Christian, he says, then why are you living like a Gentile, a man
-
trying to convince them to be a Jew?
-
He said, how can you convince a Gentile to live like a Jew when
-
you're not even practicing a Jewish type of practice
-
yourself? He he was just basically
-
pointing out that's absurd. That's ridiculous.
-
Why would a Gentile want to be a part of something that you you
-
don't even practice? That's what he was saying.
-
Paul was arguing that it really, though, wasn't about being
-
Jewish, but about being Christian.
-
But the essence, if I can say tonight, the essence of the
-
argument is applicable even for our life today.
-
Let me just put it another way. If a Christian behaves like
-
everybody else, how can you persuade someone that's not a
-
Christian to live a Christian life as being the best way to
-
live if you don't live in yourself?
-
That's absurd. Yeah.
-
I mean, it would be like standing on the soapbox saying
-
this is the best life there is living, giving testimony to it.
-
Yeah, over in the private sectors of my life and maybe
-
when I thought no one else would see her know, living not like
-
that. What type of message am I
-
sending? Is it the best life or is it it?
-
Is it the greatest thing that happened to me or is it not?
-
So you must understand, and I think it's important to look at
-
this tonight, that Jesus does not transition to praying for
-
those that would believe upon his disciples word or the world.
-
He did not transition to praying for the world until he had
-
finished praying for his disciples.
-
And it was purposeful. He said I want them to be one
-
with me as I am with God. What are you talking?
-
About. In other words, I want them to
-
be 1 not in the sense of being, you know, if you will, me in
-
essence, but I want them to identify with me.
-
I want them to be a oneness there.
-
I don't want that. I want this oneness to be that.
-
There's no variance in their mode of life compared to my mode
-
of life. He wanted them to be one as I
-
am, He said, with my Father, because that flesh that Jesus
-
had in his earthly ministry, the Bible says that Jesus did the
-
will and the dictates of his Father.
-
Anything that he was did, it's what his Father or the Spirit
-
wanted that flesh to do. He says I want that type of
-
oneness for my disciples. They're not living to the beat
-
of their own drum, but the beat of my drama is the rhythm that's
-
in their mind. It's the rhythm that's in their
-
talk. It's the rhythm that's in their
-
steps. I want them to have oneness like
-
we have oneness. I Hey man, he desired that.
-
Someone say glory. So, Joseph, you'll just have
-
here you go walk with me. Are you happy?
-
I mean, you're gonna have just walk with me here for a little
-
while tonight because Joseph has revealed himself to his brothers
-
and he has requested them. Joseph has requested.
-
He said, guys, go back, Terry, not don't lose time in doing
-
this. I need you to go get dad.
-
I need you to go make sure all the families are gathered
-
together. Come back to Egypt.
-
All right, because there's still several years of famine that's
-
left. I believe there was five years
-
of famine that was left. He says you need to go get them.
-
And whenever they go to their dad, of course, their dad.
-
The last time that he knew to his own assumption by the
-
evidence of the bloody coat that was presented to him, his
-
assumption was Joe Joseph is dead.
-
So now to hear that Joseph is alive brings great joy into his
-
life and in his heart. After assuming that his son had
-
been dead, he is now overjoyed. But listen to me.
-
Though that may be the case, Jacob still approaches this
-
decision with some care. Because before he'll ultimately
-
embark on this trip to Egypt, the Bible says on his way he
-
stops by a place called Beersheba.
-
And he's going to out for sacrifices to God there.
-
And he's going to, if you will, converse with God there.
-
Amen. And this is reasonable because
-
he is moving from Canaan to Egypt.
-
Someone say glory I, I please, please understand me.
-
Whenever we talk about the Pharaoh Amen, that Joseph knew
-
and the Pharaoh that we would know when the children of Israel
-
was delivered from bondage. We're talking about two
-
different Pharaohs. I understand that I get that
-
they they've not yet had the 400 years of bondage Amen, in Israel
-
or anything like that. But what we must realize that
-
could be going through Jacob's mind is this.
-
I've had some ancestors that's already had some.
-
Dealings. With Egypt his dad did, his
-
grandfather did. The Bible says no sooner than
-
Abraham and Sarah made their trek from Earth Chaldees to
-
Haran to the land, a promise that there was famine in the
-
land. And what did they do?
-
They went down into Egypt and it was their visit to Egypt that
-
secured them a little handmaid by the name of Hagar that they
-
acquired from that trip to Egypt that would later become a player
-
in their impatience while they waited for the promise of God to
-
come to fruition in their life. And Abraham's union with that
-
Egyptian handmaid would produce something in their family that
-
would later. Mock and despise the promised
-
child, Isaac. And so Jacob, as he's thinking
-
about going down in Egypt, he says, I know that my grandfather
-
went down in Egypt. And so I got to make sure this
-
is going to be the right option because he went down there and
-
got something that helped produce something in his life
-
that despised the promise that God.
-
So I got to consider real well about this trip to Egypt and I
-
got to think here he said, my dad Bible says that Isaac in his
-
lifetime likewise was a famine. And guess what?
-
He made plans to do what his dad had done.
-
He's going to go down into Egypt, escape, so to speak, like
-
his father Abraham. But the Bible tells us in
-
Genesis 26 that God appeared unto Isaac and told him, don't
-
go down into Egypt. And as a result of all this, we
-
see where. Isaac stayed.
-
In a time of famine in Gharar, a barren, desolate place, that God
-
caused Isaac to reap a harvest during the famine in a in a
-
barren place a hundredfold that year, and that Isaac grew in his
-
livestock and his herd and his cattle, and that he waxed right
-
in. The Bible says he became very
-
great. He had great store no doubt
-
Jacob is thinking about. One of them went to Egypt, they
-
picked up something that brought hurt to the family.
-
One was told not to go down to Egypt and was blessed for
-
staying where they were. So what is a guy to do?
-
What does it got to do when you have that type of history in
-
your family? Not go because of what happened
-
to Abraham and Isaac. How could how could Jacob still
-
go and still make it? How can he go and not lose
-
someone? Say man, oh God, like I got a
-
long walk to go here. Walk with me.
-
Hello, Amen. Egypt was sometimes called the
-
land of him because the descendants of Ham had settled
-
that particular city. We know the character of Ham.
-
We know the character of that son, a man of Noah, as it was
-
brought to light. He was the one that uncovered,
-
or if you will, brought to light, the drunken, naked state
-
of his father in his tent. Ham was the one that exploited
-
his father's moment of weakness. And so no doubt Jacob was
-
wondering, should I subject my family to a place whose founder,
-
a man and family origin, Amen, has a story of of lighting to
-
exploit another person's week. Is that what I should expose my
-
family to? And yet, whenever Jacob went to
-
Beersheba and Genesis 46, God's word to him was this.
-
He said, Jacob, do not fear going down into Egypt.
-
He even said, Jacob, I'm going to go with you into Egypt.
-
He even said Jacob there in that place I'm going to make a view
-
of great nation in Egypt. Look at Genesis 46 two through
-
4. You can read it with me and God
-
spake into Israel the visions of the night and said Jacob, Jacob
-
and he said, here I am. And he said I am God the God of
-
thy father. Fear not to go down into Egypt,
-
for I will there make thee of a great nation.
-
I will go with thee into Egypt, and I will also surely bring the
-
up again, and Joseph shall be put his hand upon thy.
-
My eyes, what you understand tonight that there are two
-
different standards. Someone hear me.
-
There are two different standards for living in Egypt.
-
You have Egypt standard and then you had God's people standard.
-
Egypt standard for living in Egypt is this.
-
Don't worry about anything else. We'll provide for you what you
-
need. Don't worry about anything else.
-
We got the best that the world has to offer right here in
-
Egypt. You just adopt what we have.
-
You take what we have. You live with what we have and
-
don't you worry about anything else.
-
That is the standard of Egypt for living in Egypt for for
-
God's people, though it is quite different and quite contrary to
-
that for God's people is this. I might live in Egypt, I might
-
have my housing in Egypt, I might be located in Egypt, but
-
I'm going to take with me everything that's in the land of
-
promise, everything that's associated with God and about
-
God I'm going to surround my life with to be a.
-
So it's Amen. Note.
-
Note. Now, Joseph, after he revealed
-
himself to his brothers and learned that his father was
-
still alive, he urged them to come to Egypt.
-
I want you to notice what Joseph.
-
Says the Joseph that survived the slavery and the pit and
-
being lied on in that land. Man that said, I can't sleep
-
with Potiphar's wife because that would be against God,
-
right? No law yet and established the
-
man that did all this stuff. Here's what he says in Genesis
-
45. These are Joseph's words and
-
verse 9. He's having these words be taken
-
by his brothers, to be taken to his father.
-
Hasty, and go up to my father, and say unto him, Thus saith the
-
son, thy son Joseph, God hath made me Lord of all Egypt.
-
Calm down unto me and tarry. Look at verse 10.
-
And thou shalt dwell in the land of Goshen, and thou shalt be
-
nearer to me, thou and thy children, and thy children's
-
children, and thy flocks and thy herds, and.
-
All that thou hath, Joseph's words was to daddy.
-
You come, but you come with everything you got.
-
Look now, if you will at Genesis 45, I'm telling you, I got a lot
-
of Bible tonight. You won't be able to leave and
-
say he didn't say anything about the Bible.
-
Genesis 45 and verse 17, this is Egypt's standard.
-
This is Pharaoh's words. Look at it.
-
Verse 17 And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Say unto thy brethren,
-
this do ye laid your beast, and go get you out unto the land of
-
Canaan, and take your father and your households, and coming to
-
me, and I will give you the good of the land of Egypt, and ye
-
shall eat the fat of the lamb. Now art thou commanded this?
-
Do ye take you wagons? How the land of Egypt for your
-
little ones, for your wives, and bring your father.
-
And come and this is my text. And also regard not your stuff.
-
For the good of all. The land of Egypt is yours.
-
Let me break it down with some other translations.
-
That whole idea also regard not your stuff.
-
Other translations say it like this.
-
Don't worry about your stuff. You can leave your stuff behind.
-
You don't have to bring all of your things from your country.
-
Do not concerned about that stuff, never mind those things.
-
Give no thought to them. Someone say Amen, Amen.
-
It was as though Egypt was saying don't worry about your
-
stuff because we can replace your stuff with what we have.
-
We can replace your stuff with what we got.
-
It's no different than what Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego and
-
Daniel face when they were taken in captivity and they were
-
trying to put. Their names upon them, and put
-
their influence on them, and their education in them to serve
-
a certain purpose. But Daniel and those boys,
-
before they ever arrived in that exile had already determined in
-
their heart, we're not going to eat the King's meat.
-
What are you saying? We got some stuff too.
-
We so it's Amen. And so chapter 46 then opens
-
with those words I read in my text and Israel.
-
Jacob then took his journey with all that he.
-
Had of course. God's going to tell Jacob don't
-
fear going to Egypt because he already knew.
-
When Jacob left his homeland before he got to bear Sheba, he
-
was already bringing everything he had.
-
Someone hear me right now. He already knew it.
-
He's going to tell no doubt Jacob that I'm going to go with
-
him because he was already taking all the goods that he had
-
obtaining with him. He's going to tell him no doubt,
-
but there's going to be increase and there's going to be overflow
-
because he not just had son and daughter and herds and flocks.
-
He had all that he. Had All right.
-
Come on. Yes, Sir, The only successful
-
way to live in Egypt is to live there with the goods that you've
-
gotten from your promise. Now, this may seem weird because
-
they're headed to Egypt, particularly the land of Goshen.
-
The Bible says Jacob's face is directed toward that location.
-
And by Pharaoh's own admission, I won't go there because I
-
don't. You love the Bible, don't you?
-
Genesis 47 and 6 for a reference.
-
Even by Pharaoh's own omission, Brother Reese, Pharaoh said that
-
Goshen was the best of the land of Egypt.
-
And so if Goshen is the best that Egypt has to offer, why
-
would you need anything else? Because the best that Egypt has
-
to offer still tales compared to the goods you've gotten from the
-
land. A promise.
-
It may be Egypt's best, but it's not Canaan's goods.
-
Look, now we got to follow this. I still got a lot of preaching
-
to. Do Genesis 46 and verse 32.
-
Now this is what Joseph is going to say to Pharaoh.
-
Dad's come, everybody's come. This is his speech now that he's
-
prepared for Pharaoh. Look at this now, Genesis 46 and
-
verse 32. This is what Joseph's telling
-
Pharaoh. The men are shepherds for their
-
trade, have been to feed cattle and they have brought their
-
flocks and their herds. Look at this now and all that
-
they have. They're going to be located in
-
Goshen. But Alex, the best that Egypt
-
has. They're thankful for the food,
-
no doubt from Egypt in this time a famine.
-
But I imagine maybe in the back of Pharaoh's mind he's thinking,
-
I told them not to worry about their stuff, but they've brought
-
all that they have. There's some aspects of the
-
promised land that they have brought with them because there
-
are some things that Egypt wouldn't have a suitable
-
substitute for. I don't know if I'm talking to
-
anybody tonight. That's OK.
-
I preach to myself. Amen.
-
It's important to make our stance, ladies and gentlemen,
-
Amen. And Joseph followed through.
-
He just didn't say. That's what I plan on telling
-
Pharaoh if you look up. Chapter 47 and verse one, the
-
Bible says that he addresses Pharaoh.
-
The moment that he's addressing it takes record and he says all
-
that they have are come out Amen of the land of Canaan.
-
He actually told Pharaoh everything that they got has
-
come out of the land of Canaan. They were in Egypt, if I could
-
say, but they were not of Egypt. God sent them there and God was
-
going to keep them from evil there.
-
They were in in just a a foreign land, Amen.
-
But they kept the goods and the sense of their promised land.
-
Some of Joseph's brothers, about five of them, were presented
-
before Pharaoh, the Scripture says, and they even stood before
-
Pharaoh and stated their position, and their position
-
supported that they had brought. All they said, for we here is
-
our purpose. We are here to sojourn in the
-
land that we have come. You must understand very well
-
what they're meaning by when they say we have come to
-
sojourn. That means simply this.
-
We've come to do well here for a time.
-
We come to do well here temporarily.
-
We come to come here just for a little space of time.
-
A sojourner is someone that has no rights of citizenship.
-
In other words, we're. In Egypt.
-
But we're not taking up citizenship in Egypt.
-
We're just here for a space of time.
-
We're just here temporary. We're just here for a moment.
-
Halo Noble Koshaya I'll tell you why.
-
I'm not going to adopt the best thing that Egypt has for me,
-
because Egypt's not my home. Egypt is not my residency, it's
-
not where I dwell. I'm a sojourner, I'm a Pilgrim,
-
I'm a stranger. I'm just here for a moment, and
-
in a moment I could be translated this.
-
We bring all we had because we're living for a different
-
world, we're living for a different country.
-
They had the testimony of their great grandfather Abraham, that
-
the writers of Hebrews says that they confessed.
-
They confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims ought the
-
earth, and so ought we be. Honey, if you do do the math and
-
the measurement, 70 years here compared to eternity after
-
death, you tell me where the big rocks should go first.
-
Peter 211 says Peter's right. He says, dearly beloved, he
-
said, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, He says, abstain
-
from fleshly lust, which war against the soul.
-
You know Peter, he's he's calling something back to their
-
minds. He's calling, he's, he's saying,
-
you've gotten too comfortable, he said.
-
But I beseech you as a stranger in Pilgrim, I'm calling you back
-
to what you really are. This earth is not yours.
-
The pleasures of this place are not yours.
-
The best? The rest of this place is not
-
yours. You're a Pilgrim and a stranger.
-
You have no citizenship here. He's trying to call something
-
back in their life, and so he admonishes them.
-
Abstain from the fleshly lust. Don't entangle yourself and the
-
affections of earthly things. Don't entangle yourself and the
-
affections of this world. I know you've got access to the
-
best that need to pass, but this isn't home to you.
-
You're a sojourner. This is temporary.
-
You're waiting. Sometimes the old preachers
-
preach at funerals. We're just waiting to give our.
-
Halle over here and our Luluya over there.
-
Jacob took all he had because in the land of Goshen he was going
-
to create a little Canaan. Someone say, man, let me bring
-
it to you from a different perspective years ago.
-
I love listening to Ted Radio Hour published by National
-
Public Radio. It's a podcast you can listen to
-
if you want to. Got a lot of sometimes
-
meaningless information and stuff, and that's the type of
-
person I am. I heard a podcast there called
-
It Takes Time and where's one part of the podcast that
-
interested me enough actually did look up a Ted talk that the
-
lady had given called Living on Two Planets.
-
Her name is Nagine Cox, she's an operations energy engineer at
-
the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Los Angeles, CA.
-
Her job is to manage and to keep touch and base with some of the
-
Rovers that have been sent to Mars.
-
Just nerd out with me for a moment.
-
Now, the difficulty in this Sister Grace's there's a group
-
of engineers and scientists that for a 90 day mission was going
-
to be communicating back and forth with this Rover.
-
It's not like you could have a joystick on Earth and control
-
the Rover in Mars. Distance is too far.
-
At night the robot would go to sleep and recharge its
-
batteries. Don't we all need that?
-
It would go to sleep and recharge its batteries on Mars.
-
And as it did that, it would send data back from the previous
-
day to these scientists and engineers.
-
They would get record of what the robot had done with the
-
Rover done upon Mars. And based upon that, then they
-
would, through their their computer programming and
-
everything, send new information about what it wanted, what they
-
wanted it to do the next day. And so in order to keep this
-
constantly going for 90 days, so why the robot was sleeping, they
-
had to be awake doing all the calculations and mutations for
-
this. Now herein lies the problem,
-
Brother Reese. A Mars day is not the same
-
length as a Earth Day. A Mars day is called a soul.
-
A Mars day is 24 hours and 40 minutes long.
-
Our Earth Day, in case you don't know, is a 24 hour day.
-
But in order to have everything delivered so that when that
-
robot woke up at 9:30 in the morning on Mars and would later
-
go to sleep at 5:30 at night on Mars.
-
In order to keep In Sync after that first day, all of those
-
group of people that was working on that Mars project had to come
-
to work 40 minutes later every day because it's 40 minutes
-
longer at Mars. I'll just hold after a period of
-
time After doing that for so many days, they're getting up in
-
the middle of the night Earth time just to stay on Mars.
-
It got so overwhelming that someone said one day we.
-
Need to do. XYZ tomorrow and she looked back
-
at them and said, you mean tomorrow, tomorrow or Mars
-
tomorrow? And so this differences of
-
attending to a place that was far away and not presently
-
living there. Then brother Alex Mason begin to
-
change their language when they started talking about today that
-
man Earth Day. But if they were talking about a
-
Mars today, they would call it a two soul.
-
If they were talking about yesterday on Mars, they talked
-
about yester. Soul.
-
And they were talking about tomorrow on Mars.
-
They talked about next or so or so Morrow.
-
They used that language so they could keep track of are you
-
talking about the Earth or are you talking about what we're
-
involved in on Mars? It got so dynamic.
-
They actually had a watch maker make a watch that would keep
-
Mars time. It was waited a little bit more
-
so it'd be a little slower, so that they could look down at
-
their hand and see a watch that Toad Earth time and a watch that
-
Toad Mars time. Someone say, man, they did this
-
for 90 days, 90 days, getting up during the middle of the night
-
every day, 40 minutes later just to correspond with what was
-
going on. Mars.
-
Hey, man. Because say she said this.
-
She says in reality, we were living on.
-
Earth, but we were on a Mars watch.
-
Hallelujah, she's saying. We were working on Mars.
-
Amen. But we were living on the Earth.
-
We were attempted toward Mars, but we were living on Earth.
-
We were focused on Mars, but we were living on Earth.
-
And he, she said the greatest challenge was this Amen.
-
Working and looking and focusing on a place that didn't
-
correspond where we lived. So it's Amen.
-
So it began to affect their language.
-
And so they developed another language and culture to be able
-
to understand one another. As a matter of fact, those that
-
were in that group, in sciences engineers that were working on
-
that, they even came up with the nomenclature of calling
-
themselves Martians and everybody else Earthlings
-
because they were on a time that was different from the land they
-
were living in. I don't know if anybody
-
understands, but I'm preaching right now.
-
They were living on a time different Amen than what they
-
were looking forward to. This is the testimony of those
-
that were working in the program.
-
They started to say, you know what?
-
We feel somewhat separated from the Earthlings here because our
-
lives. Are so consumed with what's
-
going on up there. We feel a little disenfranchised
-
and different from anybody else around here because they're not
-
on our time. They don't have the same focus
-
that we have or I'm about ready to have a fit here.
-
They begin to admit that they felt somewhat separated from
-
everybody else because, in a literal fashion, they were
-
living for a different. World and a different time.
-
I'm not making this stuff up, folks.
-
I'll give you the resources you can go to and listen to it for
-
yourself. They even said this.
-
They said the more we focus on Mars, the more we lost track of
-
the world we were living in. They said they did in such a way
-
that whenever they were at work, because it happened to be night
-
at Mars that time and daylight at work, they would pull the
-
blinds, put the foil up because they wanted the semblance that
-
they were at Mars, that it's dark, it's night, right time.
-
So we don't want what's going on in this world to affect what
-
we're trying to perceive in the other world that we're.
-
I would to God that some of us could blind some things of the
-
real world in our life so we could keep the attention, the
-
focus, the heartbeat, the language, the time, the urgency
-
of that place that. Because if you didn't keep a set
-
pattern of language and a set pattern of lifestyle and a set
-
pattern Amen of what you were attentive to, you could get
-
confused about what world you were trying to live in.
-
They ended up saying Brother Fred, There's so many of them
-
that talked about it. They ended up said that our our
-
consumption of that 90 days with Mars didn't just impact us, it
-
impacted everybody that lived in our household.
-
There are pictures, I've seen them.
-
There was some fathers that had their wives working in that
-
thing and however they arranged it, they had a job that had
-
different shifts and they switched.
-
They were taking their kids to the beach in the wee hours of
-
the morning. They got pictures of it because
-
they were living on Mars. Time I'm going to take, Jacob
-
says. I'm going to take everything I
-
got from the Promise. And my sons and my daughters and
-
my livestock, They're all going to.
-
We going to be in Egypt, but we're not going to be of Egypt.
-
We're going to have a culture there, but it won't be an
-
Egyptian culture. We're going to have a language
-
there. But it's not going to be the
-
Egyptian language. We're going to have a practice
-
there, but it will not be all of the concerns of where we're
-
living. Y'all doing all right?
-
We'll bring something else to you for the sake of
-
understanding. You go to New York City today.
-
Some have been. You go to Chicago today.
-
There's going to be areas in those cities.
-
They're going to be called Chinatown, Little Italy, Korean
-
town. They exist in those places.
-
Why? Because there's groups of
-
people, immigrants that came to America and they wanted a space
-
that they could live in, work in and preserve their culture in
-
and preserve their identity. In so much so that buildings
-
that are in those etched out areas of Chinatown and such
-
reflect. What buildings might be like in
-
China, the architecture, even the art in those places are
-
reflective of their homeland. In those in those neighborhoods,
-
those little enclaves, if you will, the people, they even have
-
language schools that teach the mother language of their
-
country. They're in America, but they're
-
keeping their children familiar with the language of their
-
homeland. In those places.
-
They have places of worship that are designated to the gods that
-
they would worship in China or the gods that they would worship
-
in Italy. They have cultural festivals
-
that don't mean anything nor are celebrated in America, but they
-
celebrated in that space because they're trying to keep an
-
identity. What they've done is created a
-
community that connects them to their heritage.
-
What they're saying, we might be in America, but we're going to
-
keep to our roots. I'm Korean.
-
The food I eat is Korean. The language I speak is Korean.
-
The festival and community that I have is Korean.
-
I'm in America. Red, white and blue, but I got
-
some tenants of MyHeritage. That are not compromisable.
-
You're not getting it yet. Let's go a little deeper.
-
How many here has ever been to a zoo?
-
Anybody been to a zoo? No.
-
We need to get up. A trip to Miska Park.
-
Me. Maybe not right now.
-
All right. Not right now, Tracy, Not right
-
now. OK.
-
You go to a zoo and the habitat for each animal in that zoo
-
differs one from the other. They all do not have these
-
identical same habitats for each animal.
-
The reason being these zoologists understand in order
-
for that animal to thrive in a place that isn't home, we got to
-
make a habitat that's familiar to home.
-
Someone hear me right now. They understand having a habitat
-
that's familiar to home is going to help this animal's
-
well-being. It's even going to help their
-
health. It's going to help some of their
-
natural behaviors. If they have a space though,
-
it's not the safari of Africa. If they have a space that
-
mirrors the safari of Africa right here in this zoo.
-
Depending upon the certain specifications and species of
-
the animals, it may differ because some animals might be
-
prone to being climbers, other animals might be prone to being
-
swimmers, other animals might be prone to be burrowers.
-
And as a result of that, they're going to make that habitat,
-
Amen, that will match what they are prone to.
-
There's going to be ropes and there's going to be trees in the
-
habitat for monkeys. So they can still.
-
Climb and swing from 1:00 to another if you go over to where
-
the Penguins. And the polar bears are.
-
The temperature is probably going to be vastly different
-
than what it will be for other habitats, but they're trying to
-
keep a means of normalcy for their life in a strange land.
-
Their surroundings are there to make to support Hey man and
-
promote what each native animal does and where they are from.
-
I'm a sojourner. I've just made a habitat here
-
below. It mirrors heaven.
-
It mirrors the tenants of heaven.
-
It mirrors the dynamics of He Who.
-
Sits on that throne because the only way I've learned to be able
-
to survive here is to have a little heaven down here.
-
I've understood if we need to understand as a church, the only
-
way we're going to be able to survive in this whole world if
-
this place we call the church has a touch of heaven on it, as
-
if you will likeness of heaven on it.
-
I'm living in Egypt without losing Canaan.
-
Everybody doing OK? There you go.
-
Hee Haw, Hee Haw. It's what we're doing here
-
below. We're trying to navigate a
-
temporal dwelling while we're holding on to eternal promise.
-
And so the balance is trying to stay in the world without the
-
world getting in me. And Jacob understood isolation
-
wasn't the answer. What Isaac did, Isolation wasn't
-
the answer. And he understood also that
-
assimilating, adopting his surroundings of Egypt wasn't the
-
answer. So he understood if he was to be
-
an agent of change, the only thing he could do is work toward
-
heaven while he was living on earth.
-
Stay with me. I'll close.
-
I'm surprised I got through all this this quickly.
-
I know you might not think it's quick, but it was to me.
-
So what you're saying the night pastor, I'm saying this, listen
-
to me. Here's my advice to you.
-
You need to take all you have, your faith, your values, your
-
testimony. You need to take all you have
-
wherever you go below here. You need to take all you have,
-
not just your children or your family.
-
You need to take all that you have.
-
And so the question then I posed to you tonight is this, are you
-
living as a sojourner in this world or have you grown too
-
comfortable with Egypt? See, because that can easily
-
happen. Naomi went down into Moab.
-
She was just going to sojourn there.
-
Ten years even pass. She's without husband, without
-
two sons. Now.
-
Her temporary stay turned into a little bit longer stay and
-
things started to be subtracted from her life until finally she
-
says, you know, I'll go back to Bethlehem, Judah.
-
So you got to be careful that the sojourning doesn't turn into
-
a residence. Listen, I know we all, you know,
-
we're in this world day, man, you know, don't be a renter, you
-
know, invest in something you can own.
-
Listen, whenever it comes to spiritual things in this world,
-
just be it. Just be a renter because the
-
place that you're living isn't worth you investing your money
-
and your goods. There's some things that people
-
rent. Oh, Lord help.
-
And I know sometimes you got to make do what you got to do.
-
But if they would give me the option to buy, I would say no
-
thank you because I'm not willing to invest what I got
-
into this. I know you say it's the best you
-
got, but see, I'm not from this country.
-
I'm. Not from this country.
-
You think it's the best because this is all you've been exposed
-
to. But I've been exposed to
-
something better than your best. I'm not from this country.
-
You don't know what I've been exposed to.
-
You don't know what I've felt. You don't know what I've tasted.
-
You don't know what I've handled.
-
You sing those songs. This whole world is not my home.
-
I'm just passing through. I'll stand for Jesus and let the
-
world go by. I wouldn't take nothing for my
-
journey now. I got to make it to heaven
-
somehow. We got to set our affections on
-
the things that are. We got to abstain from the
-
earthly lust. We don't need to get entangled
-
in that. I beseech you, as Peter did
-
those, he said. Ye are pilgrims and strangers,
-
Fred. Tomorrow I'm going to get up and
-
I'm going to carry all the goods that I have of Canaan into my
-
workplace. I'm going to get up tomorrow and
-
I'm going to carry all the goods that I have amid and among my
-
lost family. I'm going to get up tomorrow and
-
I'm going to carry all the goods that I have of the promise into
-
my community. Because we need to be creating a
-
little heaven, little pockets of the Kingdom influence within
-
this world. Each one of our life should then
-
be a testimony that while they're living here, they don't
-
belong here.
-
I can imagine maybe some of those Egyptians where they just
-
don't keep things like we keep things.
-
They don't say things like we say things.
-
They the affairs of their life and the way in which they act
-
are different than what we do. Thank God.
-
If you want everything that Egypt has to offer, then live.
-
Just live like Egypt. But if you want everything that
-
Heaven has to offer, keep the right times and keep them
-
separate. I feel the Holy Ghost.
-
It would be wise for us tonight to flood these altars with
-
lifted voices and lifted hands and say, God, I know where my
-
feet are presently seated. I know where my feet are
-
presently planted. But I got a heart.
-
I got a mind that stuck up on the affections for things that
-
are. Above God, oh God, it's that
-
place above that has dictated my culture.
-
It's that place above that's dictated my language.
-
It's that place above God. I'm not on the same time, folks,
-
do you understand? We're not on the same time.
-
There is a timetable that is ticking.
-
We're not on the same time. There's.
-
People with their head. In the sand, thinking all the
-
time of the world is before them, but there's somebody that
-
has a pulse of heaven time saying, you know what,
-
something's going on there, something's happening there,
-
something's about right. We got to live in Egypt with how
-
losing Canaan come on, somebody, somebody needs to talk with God.
-
If somebody's been getting confused which world on what
-
planet they're living on, it's time to get it straight.
-
It's time to get it straight. In our hearts.
-
Straight in our minds. We need to come to terms with
-
it. I've taken everything.
-
I've taken everything. I've taken everything that God's
-
promised me and given to me. I'm not relinquishing anything.
-
I'm not trading Egypt for anything.
-
No, no, no. Keep going to keep what I got.
-
I'm going to keep what he's touched me with.
