Please, Hallelujah. Sometimes it's just good to
-
acknowledge Him. Amen.
-
Acknowledge what you're feeling, acknowledge what you're
-
experiencing. Hallelujah, Amen.
-
Bless the Lord my soul today. You can be seated here tonight
-
if you desire. Thank the Lord.
-
Just a few things here. Amen.
-
This evening, again, World's missions conferences this coming
-
weekend, Friday and Saturday, Have a church van going on
-
Friday night if a tornado doesn't take us first.
-
And so it's going on Friday night.
-
The van will be leaving at 4:15. All right, this coming Friday.
-
So that's in Bloomington, IN, and there's a sign up sheet in
-
the foyer if you have a desire to go and be a part of that.
-
The 16th of this month is March Madness.
-
It's Selection Sunday, and so we'll have brackets and stuff
-
ready for you to fill out and have back into us that night,
-
Sunday night as things begin. The trophy is tucked carefully
-
away behind thick glass, you know, so that whoever's name
-
will be on their next, we'll be able to celebrate when that time
-
comes. We'll bring it out here soon so
-
that we can remember what it looks like.
-
All right. Also, the 22nd of this month is
-
a Section 5 rally in Medora, and that's at 4:00 PM Eastern
-
Standard Time speakers supposed to be Pastor David Scott.
-
And the 28th and 29th of this month, which is a Friday and
-
Saturday, is the Princess Within conference at Rockville, IN.
-
And there's a lot of wheels and stuff turning.
-
As a matter of fact, my wife needs to have a meeting tonight
-
with those whom are going who's concerned that over in the youth
-
room and to share some information and so on and so
-
forth. And then the 5th Sunday of this
-
month will be a Pastor McDonald coming through on that Sunday
-
morning because they're actually coming to prison from Nebraska.
-
And so we're just going to allow them one more day before they
-
have to turn around and go right back.
-
And he'll just take care of our Sunday morning as we have one
-
service there as well. Also Brother Mason make mention
-
of it in our absence whenever we were gone that April, the 6th,
-
which is a Sunday in the AM will be an Ignite Sunday.
-
And what that basically means is we're going to kind of give and
-
share some information concerning the Ignite youth and
-
our our goal, our go for that time.
-
And this isn't all the money that it takes in a year for
-
Ignite, but our goal for that time is if we can raise $4000 on
-
that Sunday morning, that's really only half of what Ignite
-
takes to run for this coming year or this year that we're in.
-
And that's the, and that's the reason why I say that is because
-
that's the, the people that are involved in that presently.
-
That's their, you know, rooms and food being taken care of
-
whenever they go to like NYC and, and WYC and then the other
-
things that happened throughout the year.
-
And so we, I'm saying all that now so we can start planning
-
right? Get our mind.
-
And with that being said, this this is hoping so that in lieu
-
we won't have a bunch of fundraisers this year for them.
-
So you can just go home and you can look at maybe how much money
-
you contributed through fundraisers last year, whether
-
you bought a pizza or bought a cake pop or you did stuff for a
-
car wash or so and so forth. Start just adding that up.
-
And if you can just contribute that everybody wins you, you,
-
you don't have to worry about it anymore.
-
They don't have to worry about it anymore.
-
And so I'd really like to move to that space if we could do you
-
say over to McGee That's high and loft.
-
I think we can do it, Glory, Amen.
-
I think we can do it. But it's going to be a time on
-
that Sunday morning kind of education because people that
-
have no students involved, I think sometimes we're detached
-
about from really how much money it takes just to operate the
-
Ignite, going to those conferences and so on and so
-
forth, even in and of themselves.
-
And that's really a great privilege that's extended from
-
the First Apostolic Church. For those who go because, and
-
you've heard me say this before, but I'll beat the dead horse.
-
That is not the case everywhere of other churches that your room
-
and food and all of that's taken care of, all right?
-
And so that's a great privilege, Amen.
-
That's extended Genesis chapter #11 if you'll stay with me
-
tonight. Genesis, you heard me.
-
Now, we have not been formally in Genesis like we are right
-
now, tonight. Now, we've touched it here and
-
there. We have not been in Genesis
-
since last May, all right? We've not been in Genesis since
-
last May. And so the struggle best with
-
that is this. You forgot everything I already
-
told you about the 1st 10 chapters.
-
So I'm going to review the first thing that I know.
-
I'm not, I'm not reviewing. That's what Pat podcast and, and
-
YouTube and all those other things are for.
-
We're not going to review all those, but we are going to land
-
here in a, what might be more so of a familiar story to some.
-
It's, it's one that we even, you know, talk about to our children
-
in Sunday school classes, or at least they did whenever I was a
-
kid in Sunday school. Maybe they don't talk about it
-
anymore, but Genesis chapter #11 verse, starting with verse #1
-
the Bible says the whole earth, the whole earth.
-
And before I get started, Kevin, it's good to see you tonight.
-
Yeah, I just started reading my Bible and just thought about
-
you. I mean, it's just powerful.
-
But it's good to see you tonight.
-
It really is. Amen.
-
And the whole earth verse #1 The whole earth was of one language
-
and of one speech. It came to pass as they
-
journeyed from the east, that they found a plane in the land,
-
a shinar, and they dewelt there. And they said to one another, Go
-
to let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly.
-
And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar.
-
And they said, Go to Let us build us a city and a tower
-
whose taught may reach into heaven, and let us make us a
-
name, lest we be scattered abroad up on the face of the
-
hill earth. The Lord came down to see the
-
city and the tower which the children and men builded it.
-
The Lord said, Behold, the people was one, and they have
-
all one language, And this they begin to do now nothing will be
-
restrained from them which they have imagined to do.
-
Go to let us go down. And they're confound their
-
language, that they may not understand one another's speech.
-
So the Lord scattered them abroad from thence upon the face
-
of all the earth, and they left off to build the city.
-
Therefore is the name of it called Babel, because the Lord
-
did there confound the language of all the earth.
-
And from thence did the Lord scatter them abroad upon the
-
face of the earth. Amen.
-
So a little while, and I'm hoping to gingerly lead you back
-
in into the book of Genesis here, but just for a little
-
while tonight, want to talk about this.
-
The tower that couldn't reach heaven, All right, The tower
-
that couldn't reach heaven. All right, God, we come to you
-
tonight. We're thankful again for this
-
opportunity, God, it is a privilege.
-
We're thankful, Lord, for the spirit of the Holy Ghost, Lord,
-
that we have felt, Lord, already in this place.
-
I pray God, just continue Lord, through your word.
-
It's already anointed. It's an anointed word, your
-
spirit, it's life. I pray God, and it's relevant,
-
God, for us today. We honor you Jesus, with praise
-
and honor in Jesus name we pray, Amen.
-
The church say, Amen, and then you may be seated.
-
Might I say it's good to see everybody that's in the House of
-
Lords here on a Wednesday night, Amen.
-
After connect groups and stuff to be back here on a Sunday
-
night Bible study of this type of format.
-
It's good to see everybody that is back, Amen.
-
So I'm just going to chalk it up that no one forgot that we were
-
going back to Wednesday about today and you're really here,
-
you're here, Amen, because of that.
-
So the last thing that we studied when we left off about a
-
little less than a year ago was in chapter 10.
-
Many of you will remember it. It's probably still giving you
-
nightmares. And that is the table of nations
-
and a long genealogy that was in chapter #10 the table of nations
-
that were there that followed the three lines of Noah's sons
-
of Japheth, Ham, and Shem. You'll remember those things
-
kind of took place there in chapter #10 and if you remember
-
anything which which you may I'm not going to you know hit below
-
the belt here. You may remember some things,
-
but genealogies and scripture sometimes are just good
-
connector lines for us right genealogy.
-
Sometimes their their purpose is to connect an event with another
-
event or person with another person and God many times uses
-
them purposefully. He may not list every name
-
that's in the genealogy. He constructs it just the way he
-
wants to, to serve its ultimate purpose.
-
And so genealogy, sometimes they act as, as transitional spaces,
-
if you will, transitional elements to get us to where God
-
wants us to go and what He wants us to learn and be.
-
And so when we look at the table of nations in chapter #10 it
-
really connects us from the flood that took place because
-
that's no one his son's day to now where we are here in Chapter
-
11, the tower, the tower of, of, of Babel.
-
And in actuality, there's a little bit of a overlay because
-
as we read chapter 10, we read Chapter 11, these two, these
-
events that genealogy and those that are listening, that
-
genealogy in the Tower of Babel, there's really kind of a overlay
-
of the episode. The reason why I say that
-
because it's in the tower of Babble that we read that there's
-
going to be the scattering of the people.
-
There's going to be the the diversifying of the language.
-
And yet when we read in chapter #10 all of these nations, there
-
are some things that evidence to us that evidently the Tower of
-
Babel happened during this time frame of the genealogy of
-
chapter #10. What I mean is this.
-
In chapter #10 we talked about the sons of Ham and the sons of
-
Shem. And this is what it said about
-
Ham sons and Shem sons. It said in verse 20 and verse 31
-
of chapter 10, after Speaking of their genealogy, that they were
-
mentioned after their families, after their tongues.
-
It speaks. So it's less, though there's
-
already a, a diversifying of the language in chapter #10 alright,
-
so there's this overlay. And so when we understand this,
-
because when Chapter 11 begins that I read to you tonight, it
-
says that the earth was of one language and of one speech.
-
All right. But over here then intended.
-
So there's a overlay. There's a coinciding of these
-
two things that that are happening.
-
Also, that means that Chapter 11 doesn't just seamlessly
-
chronologically follow chapter #10 that there is that overlap
-
again, if you'll remember, but I'll take you there.
-
In Genesis 10, verse 25, it talks about one of the
-
descendants of Shem whose name was Peleg, and it says in his
-
days was the earth divided? The the, the, the word earth.
-
One of the definitions of that word in this particular
-
Scripture is the people of the land, that in his days the
-
people of the land were divided. That's what we see happening in
-
chapter #11 with the Tower of Babel.
-
We have nations and people being divided.
-
And for that matter, the last verse of chapter #10 of Genesis
-
states that by these meaning the families of the sons of Noah
-
were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.
-
So there is a correspondence them between 10:00 and 11:00
-
that there's this, the scattering of the nations that
-
happened. There's a dividing of tongues, a
-
dividing of people. And Chapter 11 is a continuance
-
stand of some of the things that's happening that we see in
-
the genealogy. It starts with that word and
-
that connector that connects us. And it's a continuation of
-
thought. And so when we get in here just
-
a little further, there are some discrepancies.
-
There are some discrepancies among the translations about
-
whether these families of the sons of Noah, whether they
-
journeyed it from the East or whether they journey to the
-
East. You see it in verse #2 it says
-
that it came to pass as they journeyed it from the East.
-
Looked at 57 different translations on this.
-
And as I looked at it, there's different ones that say they
-
came from the east. There's others that say they are
-
going to the East, right? As a matter of fact, the
-
majority talk about them coming from the east and, and the
-
minority says that they were going to the East.
-
Nonetheless, whether they were coming or going from the east,
-
there's some type of eastward direction that's involved.
-
And the reason why that's interesting for us or maybe
-
important for us is you'll remember back at the very
-
beginning the Garden of Eden, when when man and woman there,
-
the transgression in the garden, the Bible speaks that they were
-
set outside of the garden. They were set outside the east
-
to the east of the Garden of Eden, right?
-
It's a eastward movement. And yet whenever you read about
-
Cain, who was the one that killed his brother Abel, and the
-
Bible talks about that, he left the presence of God and he went
-
to dwell in the land called Nod. That was a place that was again,
-
denoted in Scripture in chapter #4 of being east of Eden.
-
And so presently here it's describing people that are
-
either in the eastward direction or traveling further the
-
eastward direction. So there's kind of like a little
-
thread here that's taking place in Scripture.
-
Nonetheless, their journey brings them to this place called
-
Shinar, or the land of Shinar, and the Bible says that they
-
dwelt there. And so there's two things here
-
in particular that that chapter 10 kind of informs us about
-
concerning what's happening right now in chapter, chapter
-
#11 if I could say it like this chapter #10 tells us that there
-
was a descendant of Ham. All right, Ham again, one of the
-
sons of Noah, the one who walked in and discovered his father's
-
nakedness. And the one then that that that
-
his father cursed, then Ham son. And, and this curse comes up on
-
this line. This is the one, This is the one
-
in chapter #10 Ham had a descendant by the name of
-
Nimrod. If you remember that from
-
chapter #10 And the Bible says that part of the beginning of
-
Nimrod's Kingdom was Babel. All right, It was Babel in the
-
land. Verse 10 of chapter 10 tells us
-
in the land of Shinar. And so we have this overlap that
-
this this Babble that that Nimrod had began, all right, is
-
also this place where these people in chapter 10 have have
-
landed and they're building a city.
-
So there's this overlap then building this city and this
-
tower unto the Lord. Let's read it from Genesis 10
-
where it speaks of this. The Bible says in Genesis 10 and
-
verse #8 and Kush, which was a son of him, bigot Nimrod, He
-
began to be a mighty one in the earth.
-
He was a mighty hunter before the Lord.
-
Therefore it is said even as Nimrod, the mighty hunter before
-
the Lord and the beginning of his Kingdom, which a Kingdom is
-
a one person rule. All right, was Babel an Iraq and
-
Akkad and Kaunay in the land of Shinar, Amen.
-
So we have this Nimrod. The first Kingdom that's
-
mentioned in the scripture is that of Babel, or that which is
-
in the land of Shinar that that Nimrod started.
-
He is mighty. The Bible calls him a mighty
-
hunter. There's a lot of ancient
-
Assyrian tablets that explain what that mighty hunter is,
-
isn't so much a hunter of game and a hunter of animals, but it
-
is a person that is a hunter of men, a warrior of men which
-
kinds of start to bring a little foundation concerning this
-
Babble. They're one people with one
-
language and they're being convinced of building this tower
-
that can reach up into heaven. So it almost begins to depict
-
the power that this one man has over men, right?
-
His ability to convince and connive and, and so and so
-
forth. So he is, he is indeed a mighty
-
man. But also remember that Nimrod's
-
name means to rebel or to be rebellious or a rebel.
-
And what's really taking place in Chapter 11 with the Tower of
-
Babel that we'll look at here a little more particularly.
-
They're wanting to do well here, but that was never the purpose
-
of God. That was never the purpose of
-
God for his creation to do well in just a solitary place.
-
We'll look at it a little bit later.
-
We'll go back to the blessing that he spoke to Adam and Eve
-
and the blessing then that he reinitiated in for Noah and his
-
sons. And it wasn't about just
-
dwelling at a location had to do with multiplying and
-
reproduction, and it had to do with the whole earth, right?
-
The whole earth. And so we'll see that.
-
So this this idea of just the dwelling tends on and, and goes
-
to the rebellious side of the people, right, being really
-
contradictory into what the purpose of the Lord, what he had
-
in mind. And so there's another thing the
-
the other thing about this being the land of Shinar in this, of
-
course, is that blessing. Again, Noah and his sons were
-
blessed like Adam and Eve were for multiplication,
-
reproduction. And the original blessing upon
-
Adam and Eve was that they the word is that they would
-
replenish. They would replenish, finish the
-
earth, which means to feel, to feel the earth.
-
Well, reproduction alone, is it going to do that?
-
Reproduction and migration helps that.
-
All right. Reproduction and migration helps
-
that. And so just the willingness
-
Shanar trying to prevent from being scattered.
-
And we read that quite plainly in those nine verses I read to
-
you. They were doing what they were
-
doing in part was because they didn't want this, this
-
scattering to take place in their lives.
-
And you even read that in the scripture.
-
I'm trying to see what particular verse that was that
-
someone finds it before I do. You can tell me it's in
-
scripture that they basically did this for the sake that they
-
didn't want to be scattered up on the whole earth.
-
I tell you what, this glasses stuff pause here.
-
I put in a storm door on my house last night that took four
-
hours and this on and off stuff about drove me Batty.
-
I'm still a little bit upset over verse #4 yes, yes, yes.
-
Who's taught me recent to heaven.
-
Lest is the word, lest we be scattered.
-
You're laughing about it, but your day's coming, Your day's
-
coming. Amen nonetheless.
-
And so lest they be scattered, and so God intended for there to
-
be a disbursement, God intended for there to be this
-
replenishing the multiplying the feeling of the whole earth.
-
And so when we start then to read through verses 3 and four,
-
look at this, you read this and and it's almost quite
-
disgusting, isn't it? Let us build us a city.
-
Let us make us a name, right? Verse #3 go to.
-
Let us make brick. And so there's this big emphasis
-
on us, us, us. And notice even what they are
-
doing concerning building this city and building this tower.
-
It's not for God, it's for themselves.
-
It's for themselves. Now think back for a moment, if
-
you will, the founder of Babel. Nimrod.
-
He's a mighty. Man or a mighty one, The word
-
mighty there is Gabor. All right.
-
It's the same Gabor. Just I said we gingerly get in
-
here the same Gabor that we see first used in Genesis chapter #6
-
where the Bible talks about that there was the daughters of men
-
and the sons of God that came together.
-
I don't know if you remember that.
-
It's a very peculiar chapter in Genesis.
-
And from their union there were some mighty ones.
-
Same word, Gabor. And remember, they were men.
-
They were people of renown. They were people of renown.
-
I'll read it to you. Genesis 6 and verse #4 There
-
were giants in the earth in those days, and also after that
-
when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and
-
they bear children to them, the same became mighty men.
-
That's Gabor men which were of old, men of renown, or men of
-
name, or men of reputation. All right now we have Nimrod who
-
is a mighty, a Gabor man. Only second time this is used
-
yet in Scripture. So the only tie we have for is
-
what happened in chapter #6 we know everybody was, you know,
-
annihilated by the flood, except Noah and his family.
-
But do you know that there's spirits that existed before the
-
flood that still existed after the flood?
-
Spirits, huh? You, you, you can, you can
-
destroy the man, but what about the spirit of the man?
-
I'm just saying tonight it's interesting that the same word
-
mighty that described those that came from the union of the sons
-
of men or the sons of God and the daughters of men that
-
produced what some believe maybe was a giant racer.
-
Nonetheless, it is they were mighty ones or Gabor ones that
-
were people of the name, people of name, and people of
-
reputation that I'm just saying today I see it in most as though
-
the spirit that was up on that union, that was not a sanctified
-
union mind the way the spirit that was up on that union
-
transverses through the flood and lands on Nimrod because here
-
he is. Everything that's happened at
-
Babel is for reputation, for renown, for a name, for
-
themselves. For that matter.
-
Ladies and gentlemen, we talk about Nimrod, we talk about that
-
spirit and the spirit of Babylon.
-
The spirit of Babylon is still like today, and I'm probably
-
jumping way ahead of myself and all over, but that's OK.
-
But the spirit of Babylon is still like today, you say, well,
-
in dirt, a flood. It's in dirt a whole lot more
-
than a flood. OK, pause.
-
New flash. Erica, let's think.
-
Does this sound familiar? One nation, 1 government, one
-
religion. That's what we talk about in the
-
the Book of Revelation of a new world order, like bringing
-
everybody together. This oneness.
-
Doesn't that sound a whole lot familiar to Babel?
-
The Spirit of Babylon has not went anywhere.
-
The Spirit. Can I tell you the spirit of
-
Babylon? Sometimes it's trying to creep
-
into the church. Because you serve God.
-
I serve God. We all come under this same
-
umbrella. There's no difference.
-
It's the smelting part of the world.
-
Yes. And so there's something going
-
on then the Scripture is something Babylon's going to be
-
contended with from Genesis to Revelation, OK.
-
From Genesis to Revelation, the spirit of Babylon, the spirit of
-
its founder, Amen, Nimrod, all that is going to be dealt with,
-
Amen, from Genesis all the way to Revelation.
-
So I don't think it's unlikely that that spirit that was in the
-
unscented union in Genesis of the sons of God and the
-
daughters of men would produce something then, and they would
-
be called Gabor. And then that Nimrod be called
-
Gabor. They went through that spirit,
-
Amen, exists through the flood, Amen.
-
And so the Bible says that after this, that is in Genesis 6,
-
after those Gabor, those, those mighty ones, those people
-
renowned and reputation. It was after that that God then
-
finally calls out how man is just consistently wicked and
-
there's evil continually in his heart.
-
He, he already knows this, but he brings light to that very
-
fact, Amen. And it's all because of a people
-
back then, even people renowned that was more us centered, right
-
name, reputation centered than they were God centered.
-
And I'm not surprised then here in Genesis 11 that God shows up
-
to the, for the demise then of the the city and the tower of
-
Babel and what's taking place there.
-
Because we have enough other scriptural precedents through
-
God's Word, how that pride goeth before and a haughty spirit
-
before. And we have other premise that
-
even in the New Testament Scripture, in the Gospels, like
-
in the book of Matthew that the Bible talks about, whosoever
-
shall exalt himself shall be abased.
-
In other words, he's going to be brought down.
-
He's going to be brought low. Amen.
-
And so when we look at that, this next chapter, this chapter
-
chapter #11 that we're reading tonight, it begins to contrast
-
what happens whenever man tries to do for himself.
-
All right? It contrasts that because
-
whenever we go into the next chapter, then chapter #12 we're
-
going to see the contrast in Chapter 11.
-
This is what man tries to do for us.
-
Let us make brick look. Let us build.
-
Let us, let us, let us write. That's what we can do for
-
ourselves. But what can God do for you?
-
The contrast comes in chapter 12, because in chapter 12 then
-
we have the great patriarch, the father of the Jews, Abraham,
-
that comes on the scene. And God tells Abraham this.
-
He says, I will make thee a great nation, and I will bless
-
thee and make thy name great, Huh.
-
So in Chapter 11, it's let us make, let us make our name
-
great. Let us do it.
-
Let us do this to make us a name in chapter #12 a man that is
-
surrendered himself, that will have surrendered himself to God.
-
God says you don't have to worry about making your name great.
-
He says, you stick with me, I'll make your name great.
-
You don't have to worry about doing this on your own or trying
-
to connive this. No, no, He says, if you stay in
-
in subjection and under my authority, I'll make your name
-
great, right. And so it, it kind of contrasts
-
the two things. And so it's always, I think it's
-
good to know that here at Babel, they're, they're attempting to
-
make a city and a tower that's being built here.
-
And I'm putting these up before I smash them.
-
I might need them later. Amen.
-
There's this distinction made here in the building materials.
-
You can see there in verse #3 And I even asked myself when I
-
just read the scripture, because I read the scripture through
-
several times in several different versions before I ever
-
start doing anything. And whenever I read this, I
-
thought, why is there, why is there distinction here building
-
materials? Because it, it makes a
-
comparison here, right? They had brick for stone and
-
they had slime for mortar. It says, well, historically,
-
brick and slime were a Babylonian invention.
-
It was a Babylonian invention, as a matter of fact, usually
-
Israel. You've seen them using stone and
-
water. You even see them particularly
-
in the New Testament. This is true because Jesus gives
-
a response to one of his disciples as they're coming out
-
of the temple and he's kind of gesturing to the buildings that
-
are around about them in the Jerusalem area.
-
And we can read of it in Mark 13.
-
One the Bible says, and as he went out of the temple, that is
-
Jesus, one of his disciples saved him.
-
Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings are
-
here? And Jesus answering, said unto
-
him, See us thou these great buildings, there shall not be
-
left one stone upon another that shall not be thrown down.
-
That was, yes, a reference to the temple, but was a reference
-
to all of that area of Jerusalem.
-
They typically use stone and mortar, which was quite
-
different than the Babylonian age when they would use brick
-
and slime all right. For that matter, the time it
-
took to go and make bricks and extricate the slime, if you
-
will, from the earth was expensive for the Babylonians,
-
and so they weren't going to put that into any structure that
-
they didn't think warranted. In other words, it had to be
-
important to them in order for them to use that, which again,
-
kind of underscores what's happening here.
-
They thought this tower and this city was vitally important
-
enough that they're using some brick and they're using some
-
slime in order to do this. Not only that, I think of
-
another place where we had brick and where there were slime pits,
-
and that's an exodus when the children of Israel were in
-
bondage to Egypt and they were creating cities for Pharaoh.
-
His treasured cities, as they were called, Ramses and Python.
-
Python, his treasured cities were made from those materials
-
of brick. So when I look just even at
-
these two instances, brick and slime have negative negative
-
association, Babel, Egypt negative associations that's
-
taking place here. And so this is the tower that
-
the Bible says this is the tower that whose top verse war may
-
reach unto heaven. So this just isn't an ordinary
-
tower, is it, as we think of the word tower whose top reaching to
-
heaven? Now I read a scholar, his name
-
is John Walton, and John Walton says that throughout Mesopotamia
-
literature, almost every occurrence of the expression
-
describing a building with its head in the heavens refers to a
-
temple with a ziggurt. Does anybody know what a ziggurt
-
is? Raise your hand.
-
I got one person knows what a ziggurt is.
-
A ziggurt is basically like a pyramid, all right, but the
-
sides of it kind of go up into steps.
-
On each side it kind of goes up into steps.
-
And not only that, but also at the very top, many of these had
-
a little temple or a little housing of sorts for a God or a
-
deity. The cigarettes were typically
-
dedicated to some deity or some little God type of God.
-
And so since their top was above the rest of this cigarette, the
-
understanding is I'm going to build this, this tower whose top
-
reaches the heavens or reaches the place of the gods, all
-
right, because that's where their little temple and such
-
would be on the very top. These things were very important
-
to Babylon, the Babylonian Empire for that matter, these
-
little cigarettes or these little step things.
-
And they always gave them names, these little cigarettes names.
-
And whenever I looked in history here, many if not most of their
-
names include phrases like this. The meaning of their name
-
included phrases like this, lynx, heaven and earth, the
-
stairway to pure heaven. In other words, they were
-
thought by the people that day as a means of conveyance, almost
-
like a ladder or a staircase for the gods.
-
And what they really desired was that their gods would come down,
-
right? I want my God to come down.
-
Not only that thing. Now here for a moment.
-
We live in a time we're talking about idolatry, idols, wood,
-
stone, things of that that people made and they wanted.
-
This was common. This is common concept of Pagan
-
religions. They wanted their God to come
-
down and they would either cause some type of opening in the back
-
of the idol they made, or they open its nostrils or its mouth.
-
And they wanted the spirit of their God to inhabit their idol
-
so that whenever they worship, you know, they have this
-
interaction, quote UN quote, with their God because by their
-
hands, they have made this representation, this idol of
-
what they think their God is. And they wanted their God to
-
inhabit what they've made with their hands.
-
So they could have communication with their God.
-
They could interact with their God.
-
Folks, there's a lot of this that that that really can be
-
compared or contrasted with our true God.
-
But the fact of the matter is this, we didn't have to make a
-
staircase for him to come down. Nobody had to make an image of
-
wood or stone for him to end the well.
-
But Luke says the spirit of the Lord overshadowed Mary and said
-
that thing which is conceived in you is of the Holy Ghost.
-
You're going to have a son who Philippians said was in the form
-
of a servant, and after the likeness of men.
-
And I just preached on Sunday morning that God indwelt God in
-
to whelp that body. This isn't an image I made.
-
This is the image God made. Hey man, I didn't make an image
-
for him to come down inside of. He made his own image for him to
-
come inside of. Woo man, I feel the Holy Ghost
-
in that and and I said on Sunday morning, that's the reason why
-
we see there is no qualms or difficulty in people falling
-
down and worship in Jesus because those people recognize
-
the God that end dwelt that Jesus, that creator, the God of
-
the universe, the God of Israel. But folks, all these other
-
people, Paul even said it. He said there's Lords many and
-
gods of many. He said there's in another
-
words, all of that is just Hosh posh.
-
All of that is just a bunch of hogwash.
-
There's no such thing as really another God.
-
God. There's no such thing really as
-
another Lord. There's only one Lord.
-
There's only one God, and he represented himself in Christ
-
Jesus. And Jesus wasn't man made, He
-
was God made. Amen.
-
God didn't make a tower so he could come down.
-
That's the thing. Oh, we're going to make a tower
-
so God can come down to us. No, God came down to us so that
-
we could go up to Him. Amen.
-
Something else touches on in Scripture that our minds might
-
start clicking off a little bit. When we read Genesis Chapter 11,
Genesis 11 chapter mention
-
you remember another patriarch, Abraham Isaac, Jacob.
-
He's in a place and he's laid down for the night and used some
-
stones for a pillow, and he has a dream of a ladder or a
-
stairway if you will, that's connected between heaven and
-
earth. And there's angels ascending and
-
descending. Genesis 2812 the Bible says And
-
he Speaking of Jacob dreamed and behold a ladder set up on the
-
earth and the top of it. Notice the wording and the top
-
of it reached to heaven and behold the angels of God
-
ascending and descending on it. That that that that's me gets me
-
start to think because if this this ziggurat or this thing that
-
they're making in babbles to be a staircase for their God to
-
come down. Jacob's having a vision, a
-
vision, mind you, a dream of his God.
-
He says there's a ladder there. It's top reaching to heaven and
-
we've oftimes said it. There is already his spirit and
-
and his spiritual beings doing things.
-
They don't have to come down. They're already down.
-
The scripture mentions first they ace in before they descend.
-
So they're already here. They're already here.
-
As a matter of fact in the Acadian language Babble meant
-
this the gate of the gods, the gate of the gods or the gate of
-
heaven. The reason why this is special
-
to us especially for Jacob's story as when he awakes out of
-
his dream and vision, he says something to the effect of this
-
is a dreadful place. He says but I wish not that the
-
Spirit of God was here and what he says is this.
-
Then in verse 17 he said this is none other but the House of God.
-
This is the gate, this is the gate, This is the gate of
-
heaven. Can I tell you then tonight
-
this, that the gate of heaven, as the Babylonians would have
-
seen it would have been the pinnacle of their ziggurat that
-
they have constructed, right? That would been their date of
-
heaven. Can I tell you that the gate of
-
heaven is not the top of what man can do?
-
The gate of heaven is where God shows up, the God where the God
-
shows up. And the apostle Paul was
-
basically saying the same thing to the Roman believers in the
-
book of Romans chapter 10 and verse #6 he's basically saying
Romans 10 chapter mention
-
the same thing. Look at the Scripture very
-
clearly here and it's up there he said, but the righteousness
-
which is of faith speaketh on this wise.
-
This is how the righteousness that is of faith speaks.
-
It says it's what righteousness says.
-
Say not, I say, say not, say not in thy heart who shall ascend
-
into the head into heaven, That is to being Christ down from
-
above. He said the righteousness of
-
faith is not thinking what can we do?
-
How can we get Christ? How can we get God down to us?
-
So that's not how the righteous thing, that's how the
-
unrighteous thing, how can we get our gods down to us?
-
He said, but the righteous say not how who's going to ascend to
-
the heaven to to to into heaven? That is to bring Christ down
-
from above, because we don't have to build something to bring
-
him down. He came down by his own
-
volition. So they're doing this just
-
taught me reach the heaven. And this is the comical side, in
-
my opinion, is when we get to verse 5, because if they were
-
doing this to reach heaven or have that pinnacle up there, and
-
I believe it's more figurative than literal, but nonetheless,
-
to try to reach heaven, to try to reach the gods, if you will,
-
of heaven. Verse 5 tells us plainly so that
-
we can relate to what's going on.
-
And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, if you
-
were trying to reach there. He still had to come down even
-
to the furthest distance that you attempted to reach.
-
That means there's nothing that man can do where God's not going
-
to have to still come down and meet him where he's at.
-
He's still going to have to in terms come down.
-
And that for sure means, Sister Jessica, this I can't reach him
-
on my own. There's not enough good deeds I
-
can do to reach him. Huh.
-
No, no, no, no. I love him, John said.
-
Because he loved me first. If I ever Amen, get a handle on
-
him, it's because he first got a handle on me, right?
-
He paved the way with his blood. He paved the way, Amen with his
-
grace. And so I, I can't reach him on
-
my home, his, his dissension through Bethlehem's Manger and
-
through everything that happened at Calvary, all of that that
-
made him reachable to me, that made him accessible to me.
-
And so it's interesting then though, now that the turning
-
point of what's happening at Babylon chapter #11 the turning
-
point of what's happening there is whenever the Lord came down,
-
things start to turn there. There is the scattering.
-
And, and rather than everybody just trying to do well there,
-
there the, the language that was one.
-
Now it is varied. And, and the people are going
-
off from there and they leave off building this city.
-
The Bible says they leave off building the city.
-
So the turning point for what was taking place at Babel all
-
changed whenever the Lord came down.
-
And the Lord reason I say that because the same thing happens
-
for you and I, the turning point for humanity, for that matter,
-
happens whenever he came down. The the trajectory that humanity
-
was on is altered by whenever he came down.
-
And so the Lord, though he, he's, he's, he notes some
-
things. He's, he's for sure not
-
ignorant, but he notes some things like in verse #6 he notes
-
all of this oneness that's going on at the Tower of Babel, right?
-
The one language, the one speech, the work is 1, the, the
-
US, us, us stuff that's being said.
-
And he no doubt underscores right here a principle
-
concerning unity, that unity is a very powerful force to be
-
reckoned with. Now it's all about what you're
-
unified over. Unity is a powerful force
-
nonetheless. But what are you coming in unity
-
about? Well, for sure, in Chapter 11,
-
it's not for something good. But if you could take the same
-
principle of unity, huh? Like Psalms 133, how good and
-
how pleasant it is for brethren to do well together in unity.
-
It's like the oil that was up on Aaron's head, that rented out
-
his beard even to the skirts of his garment, even like the dew
-
that was up on Herman. And was this if if we can just
-
somehow hone and grab a hold and capture that unity, but use it
-
to the right thing. And he even seems to know that
-
the heart of their unity was their language, right?
-
Their ability, their language. And he seems to convey here that
-
what was happening here was the start of Babel.
-
And if something had not happened, there was no end to
-
it. There was going to be more
-
involved. He said.
-
If they if they were not restrained from this, they could
-
even whatever they imagined to do, that they would be able to
-
purpose that and do that and accomplish that because of this
-
unification that they had. And so he comes down, he
-
confuses their their language, he confounds their tongue.
-
And so now as a result, you know, I mean, just imagine, you
-
know, if you just in America, you're setting, sometimes you're
-
just unilingual. You're unilingual.
-
You don't know other language. And you hear people talking and
-
you're sitting there and you're wondering, I wonder what they're
-
saying, right? Some of y'all have a hard time
-
because they're laughing. You think I wonder what they're
-
saying about me and their language, right?
-
Oh, you know what, Reese, don't you tell me now.
-
But it's hard to communicate, right, without speaking the same
-
languages. So the construction project
-
course here, you know, leaves off because the communication
-
then cannot be there. The language was divided.
-
And as a matter of fact, the linguists of many linguists go
-
and tell us, and I think we looked at this in our last
-
chapter, that many linguists trace all the languages, the
-
world back to a dominant prominent language that they all
-
speared from, which gives support then for Genesis chapter
-
number. Genesis chapter #11.
-
Now the weird thing about all this, this idea of the gods in
-
one language and no disbursement just stay right here.
-
And my wife brought this up a few weeks ago and I've said this
-
before but she forgot I guess. But none the less, really what
-
we see though then when we get in the book of Acts chapter #2
-
is almost like a reversal of Babel.
-
Because on the day of Pentecost, A feast has happened here where
-
it was mandatory to Old Testament law and Leviticus that
-
men for sure are going to be at this feast.
-
And the population of Jerusalem. I, I would have to look back up
-
the number, but it many, many, many times over has flooded in.
-
In case you know, of everybody coming in for this feast of
-
Pentecost and they're all there. And the Bible then talks about
-
suddenly there came a sound from heaven.
-
You start reading in or Acts chapter #2 and and let me just
-
go there because I don't want to.
-
I don't want to you to miss this.
-
The Bible, if you go to Acts chapter #2 and you start reading
-
about the different people, there's Parthians verse #9
-
there's Parthians and Meads and Elamites and dwellers and
-
Mesopotamia and Judea and Cappadocia and Pontus and Asia
-
and Fieger and Pamphylia and Egypt and parts of Libya about
-
Cyrene and strangers of Rome, Jews, proselytes, Cretes and
-
Arabians. There's all these different
-
types of people there. But when those hundreds one in
-
the upper room and they're peered into them cloven, which
-
means divided cloven tongues like as a fire, and they all
-
begin to speak in other tongues as the spirit gave them the
-
utterance. And there's all these different
-
nations that's hearing their tongue.
-
But what's happening is these other tongues, which is the
-
language of heaven, the language of God.
-
Now some are are bewildered by what's happening here because
-
they hear in their own language. The Bible says people speaking
-
about the wonderful works of God, the wonderful works of God.
-
And so whenever you start talking about then US receiving
-
a one language again, whether you're Japanese, Chinese,
-
Spanish, English, German, whoever you are on this globe,
-
if you receive the Spirit of God according to Acts 2, as the
-
Spirit gives the utterance you speak a another tongue or
-
language. Corinthians tells us it's the
-
tongues of men and of angels, right?
-
But whenever you speak that other language and you're born
-
into the family of God and you couple that then with your
-
baptism, look at the lines starting to disappear.
-
Because whenever this happens, Paul said there's neither Jew
-
nor Greek, there's neither bond nor free, There's neither male
-
nor female. What's going on?
-
There's the one that's happening.
-
And not only that, on the day of Pentecost, they were all
-
gathered together in one mind. It's a reversal of such a
-
Babble, right? It's a reversal of such a
-
Babble. But, and in that moment, if we'd
-
say like this hard, God came down.
-
Until Pentecost, He had never inhabited a human individual.
-
But on the day of Pentecost, without us making a staircase,
-
unless you want to call it prayer, but without making a
-
staircase, without a cigarette, He came down.
-
And where there was a dispersing and diversing of languages, now
-
He brings it to the language of his language and brings it
-
brings a unity to the people. And what happens now they're
-
going forth and they're preaching the gospel and it's
-
having an impact on the entire world.
-
He's really satisfying. Everything there is set to be
-
satisfied all by himself. And so in Genesis 11, the very
-
thing that they were trying to avoid the Lord comes down and
-
causes they're trying to avoid being scattered.
-
He scatters them and the building of the city stops.
-
It's an incomplete place. And so there's really confusion
-
on a couple of levels here. Yes, there's the confusion of
-
the language, but there's also the confusion that's brought
-
about with Nimrod being the founder and the builder of this
-
and the rebellion against God with this.
-
Because up to this point, let's think about it in Genesis just
-
for a moment. I'm already read, so we need to
-
hurry. That's all right.
-
I put later in here. There's some other stuff I said
-
extra if I have time. So we're not going to have time.
-
So you'll never know because I'm not, I'm not even going to tie
-
it over to next week. You'll never know.
-
It'll be a mystery up to this time.
-
Adam and Eve moved away from God, the presence of God, all
-
right before the flood. People's doing wicked evil
-
continually, right? All of this is happening.
-
But now at Babel, there's a little scenario going on here
-
because listen folks, it's really one thing to sin against
-
God and disobey God, and then it's another thing just to
-
discount and disregard God. I mean, there's people that
-
leave the church sometime they sin and they disobey, but they
-
still don't, they still don't disengage from the truth that
-
he's one God and that you understand what I'm saying.
-
So there's a difference whenever you step in.
-
And so there's a stepping of that line here at Babel.
-
It's not just sinning and disobeying.
-
It's disregarding him as God, right?
-
Thinking about another, which whatever that means, quote UN
-
quote another. And so whenever they switch and
-
they turn to these gods, you got to understand what are they
-
pagans thought about their gods. They seen their gods as having
-
needs. They needed to pamper their
-
gods. You see in scripture, we looked
-
at it in Genesis already thus far, they need to feed their
-
gods. They, they, they needed to house
-
their gods, their idols. They carried their gods, all
-
these things. Which contrasts our God because
-
he's the creator. He feeds us.
-
He clothes us. Huh.
-
Did not even tell in the beginning, you know, talking
-
about hey, don't, don't, don't take no thought about what you
-
wear. Take no thought about why?
-
Because you're not the lilies of the field.
-
They neither told nor speak. I take care of them, right?
-
God would take care of them. God would clothe them.
-
God would house them in one place In Isaiah, God says I'll
-
carry you. And he contrasts the fact that
-
everybody's carrying their idols.
-
He said, but your God's going to carry you.
-
Now I'd much rather have a God that carried me than had to be
-
carried. And so there's this whole,
-
there's this whole confusion on that level of, of what God
-
really was from the very beginning.
-
Our God doesn't have any deeds. He he tells us.
-
He said the beast in Psalms in Psalms.
-
He said the beasts of the field are mine.
-
He said. He said the wild beasts of of
-
the country are mine. He said.
-
He went on to say he said the world is mine.
-
He said if I was hungry, I would not tell you.
-
He said I know you bring your sacrifices of.
