Tongues | Pastor Paul McGee

Amen. Good morning everyone.

House of the Lord this morning. Good to be back home.

Good to be with you fine folks here on this Sunday morning.

I am a little tired and body that the Spirit is willing, even

though sometimes the flesh is weak.

Amen. It's good to be here, good to

see your faces here. And I was telling them in the

back that on the way home yesterday, I caught up on every

service I missed here. So I listen to brother Mason

about it's time to bury the dead bodies and I listen to the

Bishop on According to the Code and I listen to brother Zach

about my Brother's keeper. And isn't it great?

Brother Zach stayed in the book of Genesis for Wednesday and I

just, I don't know if he meant to do that or if God directed

him. That just proves to you that's

where we need to be on Wednesdays.

Amen. So but we're grateful for their

voice and taking the time and putting in the effort and the

energy, all those that kept things going around here while

we were gone. I got the list on my desk.

People showed up for prayer and that's always comforting that

you were here for prayer on the 1st Thursday of the month and

the here we are in the month of August, which seems like a

whirlwind that we're already here.

Amen. And again, thank you.

Yes, the, the surprise of the truck.

Here's how surprised there was. It didn't even recognize it.

That's how tired I was kind of pulled into the drive.

I did notice my lawn. I knew that brother Fred was

going to take care of my lawn, but it looks like he's probably

cut it freshly because it looked pretty fresh.

And so he even probably did it more than once while I was gone

and so unloaded all of her stuff.

And my daughter's the one that said something's different out

here. So I went out and I seen it was

clean and I noticed my back tailgate that it, it was fixed

or if it even was the same one, I didn't know.

But that's, that's the, that's the extent of what I noticed

till this morning. I got my truck and seen

paperwork in above my visor and realized those were new tires on

my truck, which they were pretty bald, but nonetheless, and got

out and looked at and said, yeah, they're not just clean

they're new. But and I did, I got broke down

about 3 different times and maybe I'm, I think sometimes I

get more emotional my old age. Plus I was tired.

It's just a perfect storm. Just if I just up here this

morning, just start this bear with me.

You know, I just don't I don't know what's going to happen.

Amen. But it's been good and it's been

good good to be in the House of the Lord today.

Thank you for God's protective hand, Amen upon us and our

travels and what He has accomplished over the past

several, several days of being gone.

This morning I am, I'm going to be in teaching mode 2.

Two reasons. Number ones, I am absolutely

tired #2 I would really want to answer a question that was asked

to me a few weeks ago and kind of delve into it just a little

bit today. And it's good.

It's good for all of us and it's applicable to Scripture.

I'm going to go to 1st Corinthians chapter #12 First

Corinthians chapter #12 I'm going to read some verses of

Scripture there today and we'll we'll see what what happens here

today with, with this the question.

And it wasn't necessarily maybe a question as much of A

statement or, and it's, it's came up over and over again.

Maybe you've had it before and in the life of the church, and

that is even the greater church world.

Sometimes there's come the mode that people use certain settings

of scriptures for like the initial gift of the Holy Ghost

and speaking with other tongues. And that gets confused in with

the gifts of the spirit of tongues, which also gets

confused in with someone like praying then the Holy Ghost,

right? And so sometimes there can be

misapplication, for instance, like the gift of tongues, like

when you talk about the nine gifts, that's in the setting

scripture I'm talking about today, which usually

necessitates an interpretation when then people say not not

everybody has that gift, all right, but they want to apply

that then to the initial sign, the Holy Ghost.

And then like, well, not everybody will speak in tongues.

And whenever they receive the gift, the Holy Ghost, and so

it's a misapplication because they're these, these are

individual, a man in their, in their, in their giftings and our

experience of them as Christians.

So that's what I want to talk about today.

Kind of give a little clarification.

Amen to that where they're because what's important, I

think to under score whereas the gift of tongues in First

Corinthians chapter #12 not everyone may participate in you

will speak in tongues whenever you receive the baptism of the

Holy Ghost. That is forever.

Every single individual and it will occur and happen.

And so that's important this morning and I'm going to try to

move along here that I won't get going if I don't get started.

Amen. First Corinthians chapter #12

starting with verse #1 the Bible says now concerning spiritual

gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.

You know that you were Gentiles, carried away into these dumb

idols, even as you were led. Wherefore I give you to

understand. Wherefore I give you to

understand that no man speaking by the Spirit of God, call of

Jesus a curse, and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord

but by the Holy Ghost. Now there are diversities of

gifts, but the same Spirit, and there are differences of

administrations, but the same Lord, and there are diversities

of operations, but it is the same God which worketh All in

all. But the manifestation of the

Spirit is given to every man to profit with all.

For to 1 is given by the Spirit, the Word of wisdom.

These are the gifts of the Spirit, the 9 gifts of the

Spirit, the given the Word of Wisdom to another, the word of

knowledge by the same Spirit to another faith by the same Spirit

to another, the gifts of healing by the same Spirit to another,

the working the miracles to another, prophecy to another,

discerning the spirits to another, diverse kinds of

tongues to another, the interpretation of tongues.

But all these work of that one and the self same Spirit

dividing or distributing to every man severally as he will.

So this morning I basically want to talk about tongues today, the

initial sign spiritual gift and, and in the mode of prayer.

All right, hey man, let's pray today.

Father, I thank you today, God, your word, Lord Jesus, God is

forever settled. The grass may wither and the

flower may fade, but the word of the Lord will stand forever.

We're thankful Lord, for your word.

He gives us instruction. God, enlightenment, God, they

are words to live by, words to die by.

God will give the glory and the praise.

God, for what you accomplished through this word and the lovely

name of Jesus Christ this morning that I pray and the

church say Amen, Amen. You may be seated this morning

in Jesus name. And so we want to just take a

little bit of time this morning to differentiate between these

these different tongues today and to clarify the distinctions

between these different manifestations of tongues or or

languages, as you could call it, because it's important again, so

that we don't fall prey to miss applying some guidelines that's

for one of these manifestation of tongues to a different

manifestation of tongue where where it doesn't apply.

And so that I believe that is important.

What if we look at these this morning in our passage, it's

speaking in particularly about the gifts of divers, divers

kinds of tongues. And the word divers just

basically means different kinds of tongues, which can really

point to a couple different things.

When we talk about different kinds of tongues #1 We

understand through Scripture that tongues, that language can

be either heavenly or earthly. The Bible tells us that in First

Corinthians chapter #13 the Paul right into the church at Corinth

said. He said, though I speak with the

tongues of men, which would be earthly, tongues can be a real

language of the earth that is used.

That may be unbeknownst to you, you, you might have English as

your native tongue in your native language, but this divers

type of tongues you may speak in the language that you were not

taught, you've not been instructed in.

It's not like part of your your maybe your bilingual, maybe you

know, English and Spanish, but it's something outside of that

scope that that is a earthly tongue.

We have so many different languages and dialects across

the world today. It's numerous, but it could be

that. But he says, though I speak with

the tongues of men, which is earthly tongues, things that

someone in the land of this earth would be familiar with if

they heard it, if it was their native language and of angels.

All right, so we're Speaking of something that exceeds the

earth, something that is a heavenly, He says that have not

charity I become as a sounding brass or tinkling symbol.

So we talk about diverse diversity for different kinds of

tongues. It could be simply that that it

could be tongues of men or of angels.

All right. And so the apostle Paul brought

that to our attention in First Corinthians chapter #14 the the

Scripture often calls this divers kind of tongues.

It often calls it the unknown tongue.

Again, a tongue that is unknown to the one who is speaking it or

being used by it could be, again, another human language

that may be foreign to you, or it could be a heavenly language.

All right, it's that of angels, so to speak.

And so there are divers kind of tongues in that respect.

But there's also divers type of tongues when we talk about that,

because there is tongues that he's used for personal

edification that we call praying in the Spirit.

All right, The Bible says, when you know not what you ought to

pray, there are groanings that cannot even be uttered, and you

pray in the spirit. That's for personal devotion,

personal edification. But then there is another aspect

that requires interpretation, that when you've heard it,

you've, you've seen things shift in this congregation before.

I must say holy hush or a boisterous voice of tongues that

was formed to us come forth in that tongue necessitates an

interpretation. All right, So 2 gifts working in

tandem here in, in First Corinthians chapter #12 the

diversity of tongues and then interpretation working in

tandem. And that then edifies the body.

It builds up the church. It's for the edification of the

church. So it's different than one edify

self, another edifies the church.

But even to to pile on top of that, then we have this initial

sign of receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, right?

They spoke in tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance

according to Acts chapter #2 and according to the Word of God.

That, though, puts us in the body.

That puts us in the body. The Bible states this.

If I can find the Scripture, because I don't have, there's

probably going to be some scriptures today that I don't

have written down here in my notes that I'll just go to.

And I'm trying to find this one verse #13 of First Corinthians

12. It's shifting now.

It's speaking about four by one spirit.

The Spirit's talking about is the Holy Spirit or the Holy

Ghost. For by 1 spirit are we all

baptized into one body? The Bible speaks about the Holy

Ghost as being the baptism of the Spirit or being infilled

with the Spirit. He says by 1 spirit are we

baptized into the body. And the Bible continues to say

whether we be Jew or Gentiles will be bond or free.

We've all been made to drink into one spirit.

And so whenever we receive the gift of the Holy Ghost and we

speak in tongues as Acts 2 tells us, and the Spirit gives us the

utterance in order to do so, that initial sign and that

speaking in tongues places us in the body.

So we have these divisions, The initial sign of the Holy Ghost

to speak in other tongues places us in the body.

And #1 let's back up for a moment.

First Corinthians 12 tells us these are the gifts of the

Spirit. In other words, they belong to

the Spirit. If I were, if I were to take you

by my house, and I said, well, that's the House of Paul.

Another way of saying that that's Paul's house.

Paul being possessive of the house, all right, those that

belongs to me. And these are the gifts of the

Spirit. They belong to the Spirit.

So you must have the Spirit to operate in the gift of diverse

tongues and to pray in the Spirit.

You must have the Spirit even in Scripture.

The first time that we see the initiation or the Bible speaking

about anyone speaking in tongues, it was in the book of

Acts concerning the initial gift of tongues and the sign that

accompanied that gift of speaking in other tongues.

You will not operate in diverse tongues and interpretation these

gifts of the Spirit unless you have the Spirit.

The spirit gets you in the body. The Bible says in first

Corinthians 12, it goes on and even says more starts talking

about the body of Christ, how there's one body, there's many

members right of the body and about how we're how we have

different functions in the body being a part of the body and

it's speaks about prophecies and all these things.

But again, you must be a part of the body in order for that to

take place when you receive the gift, the Holy Ghost, and you

speak in tongues as the Spirit gets the utterance that puts you

in the body. All right, If God uses you and

you open and yield to speaking in tongues, the gift of tongues

for the purpose of an interpretation of tongues, that

edifies the body. But if you pray in the Spirit

and you're an intercession, you don't know what to say and

you're not speaking in English, but you're praying to God that

edifies you. So that differentiates than the

purpose of these three different things, these three different

types or kinds of tongues that the scripture makes mention of.

Amen, Amen. So it's important, it's

important then to look at them. And, and the other thing is, and

I'm, I'm probably going to be all over my notes.

I got notes, but my mind's like rolling like this right now as

well. Again, and I already made

mention this to begin with, that whenever we talk about the gift

of the Holy Ghost, that's for all of us.

I know, I know the society in which we live in, there are a

lot of different ideas and concepts, right?

But let's go back to Scripture. The gift of the Holy Ghost is

for all of us, all right? This, the baptism of the Holy

Ghost, is what the the New Testament gospel writers spoke

of, and that Jesus even spoke of himself as being the promise of

the Father. You'll read, and you're probably

going to have to use your fingers because I already told

Brother Mason, you ain't going to have everything I'm going to

say today in the Scriptures I go to.

But if you go to Luke chapter #24 if you go to Luke 24 and

like verse 45 this morning, the Bible states these words in

verse #45 of Luke 24. And this is, this is Jesus.

He's opened their understanding. The Bible says that they might

understand the Scriptures and said in them, thus it is

written. And thus it behoove Christ to

suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that

repentance and remission of sin should be preached in his name

among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

And ye are witnesses of these things.

And behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you.

But Terry, in Jerusalem, in the city of Jerusalem, until you be

endued with power from on high. So He's given them some

instruction, Repentance and remission of sins is going to be

preached in His name, and it's going to begin at Jerusalem.

Acts 2, whenever they are gathered together, the 120 in

the upper room, Acts 1 and 2, chapter 1 and chapter 2, we see

these group of disciples and 120, even Jesus's own mother

Mary is present among them. They're gathered in the upper

room. They have been tarrying there.

They've been continuing there. They have been praying all

right, and it's in this place even that later we see in Acts

2, Peter preaches the message of Acts 238.

Then Peter said them, repent and be baptized, everyone of you in

the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of your

sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Repentance and remission of sins was preached in His name

beginning at Jerusalem during that feast of Pentecost, when it

was required, according to the book of Deuteronomy, for all

people to come to this feast. The population of Jerusalem went

many times over during the feast of Pentecost because of

everybody that's coming in. But Jesus said before this ever

occurred, he said, I want you to go there because I'm going to

send the promise of my Father to you.

But you need to tarry there and wait for that, that that power

from on high. You can turn to Acts chapter #1

just a few chapters over from where we just were, or books

over Acts chapter #1 and verse #4 the Bible says.

And being the symbol together with them, commanded them that

they should not depart from Jerusalem.

But wait for the promise of the Father, which saith He, ye have

heard of me. This is Jesus, Jesus, this is

talking here yet again. He says, you've heard this of

me. For John truly baptized with

water, but ye shall be baptized. And note the language.

He's talking about receiving the Holy Ghost as being baptized

with the Holy Ghost. Ye shall be baptized with the

Holy Ghost not many days hence. This is something that we read

of the Scripture. He's, he's referring back to a

time whenever John was baptizing.

All right, you can read of it in Luke chapter #3 and Matthew

chapter #3 Jesus was baptized, but he told the people that he

was baptizing. He said, there's one that cometh

after me, whose shoe latch I am not worthy to undo.

He says, and he's going to come. He's mightier even than I and

he's going to come and he's going to baptize you with the

Holy Ghost and with fire. He says this over and over

again. You look at it in in Luke

Luke 3 · chapter mention

chapter 3 and also in Matthew chapter #3 he says John only

baptized in repentance, but once coming baptize you with the Holy

Ghost and with fire. Now if you look again at Acts

Acts 1 · chapter mention

chapter 1, like verse #12 the Bible tells us that after Jesus

ascended and his disciples, if you, if you remember Scripture,

the story he ascended, the disciples are there, they're

gazing as he's being taken up. Some angels say, why stand ye

here gazing? The same Jesus is taken away

from you is going to come in like manner, right?

He ascended from the Mount of Olives, but he had told them,

what did he tell them? Go to Jerusalem, wait for the

promise of the Father. And so the Bible says.

Then return they, this is Acts 112, unto Jerusalem.

They're being obedient to what the Lord said from the Mount of

Olivet, which is from Jerusalem, a Sabbath day's journey.

And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room where

both Peter and James and John and Andrew and Philip and Thomas

and Bartholomew and Matthew and James the son of Alpheus, and

Simon the Zealots, and Judas the brother of James.

Look at verse 14. These all continue with 1 accord

in prayer and supplication. They continued there.

They're tarry in there just as they have been told and spoken

to to do so again. It even says in verse 14 women

were there, Mary the mother of Jesus was there, Amen with his

brethren. Let's just pause for a moment.

Amen that Mary, when we read in Acts 2, Mary the mother of Jesus

received the promise of the Father.

She received the Holy Ghost and spake in other tongues as the

Spirit gave the utterance. She was blessed.

The Bible says blesses the woman that you know who who who gave

suck and to Jesus Christ. Yes, a very honorable thing, but

the Bible describes to us that she still needed, she still

needed the baptism of the Holy Ghost, Amen.

She still needed that. And so nonetheless, here they

are, they're following all this. It was for everyone.

It was for everyone. How do I know this?

Again, when we read Acts 2, those famous words of Peter,

he'd been preaching to them, the gospel message.

He talked to them how this saying, Jesus, whom you

crucified, God has raised him up.

He's preaching the gospel. He talks to them about his

death, his burial, his resurrection and whenever they

learned that they had crucified their Messiah, whenever they

learned what they had done, there was a certain amount of

guilt that came up on them, a certain amount of of conviction

that came up on them. That's what spawned the question

then, sister, am I when they said, what shall we do?

And Peter answered that then with the repentance and being

baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, right for the rich sins

and you shall receive the Holy Ghost.

But it doesn't stop there. It says in verse 39 for the

promise. What promise?

The promise of the father. So wait, wait one a minute.

Peter's doing something interesting here because he is

making a connection between the Holy Ghost and the promise.

The promise of the Father was the Holy Ghost.

The promise of the Father is what was going to happen right

here in the Scripture. He said for that promise, which

was the promise of the Father, that Jesus said he would sin.

He said, is unto you and to your children, and to all that are

afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Ladies and gentlemen, the initial sign of speaking in

other tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance just wasn't

for the 1st century church. It was for every generation from

there, even to now. And we have enough examples

still today. Just this past week, I seen

people speaking in other tongues for the first time.

That was the initial evidence that they had received the

promise from the Father. It did not.

It did not stop in the 1st century.

It started in the 1st century and it's not stopped yet.

It's for everyone, as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Well, how do you say it's for everyone?

Well, in one place the Scripture in John chapter #7 like verses

3637 around there, the Bible describes that Jesus is at a

feast. It's the last day of the feast.

And he's standing and he's crying into the people, and he's

saying, if any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink.

And he said he that believeth on me, as the Scripture have said,

out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

But in parentheses in the next verse he qualifies everything

and says that the this he spake concerning the spirit that those

that would believe upon him should receive.

And it says though, but the Holy Ghost was not yet given at this

spot because Jesus had not yet been glorified.

What's that mean? Jesus at this point had not

died, He had not been buried, and he had not been resurrected.

Amen. So the Holy Ghost hadn't come

because Jesus was still there. Because in John 14 he told them,

he says I will go away, but I'm going to send you a comforter.

And he told us what that comforter was.

The comforter was the Holy Ghost.

So he hadn't yet been glorified, but he said the water you will

drink of and that well that will come out of you.

He said it will be the Holy Ghost.

That's what I'm talking about. You can't talk about this stuff

about getting excited it he said whosoever if a man thirst.

Not only that, when you read the very last chapter of the Bible

of the Revelation chapter 22, there's a verse of Scripture in

Revelation 22 · chapter mention

there like in the teens that says that the spirit and the

bride say come. So it says, it says the Spirit

and the bride say come, and it says and let him that is a

thirst come. He even says he uses this word.

This is a bit you want to talk about a big word in the English

language. He said whosoever will let him

come and notice the verbiage and drink of the water of life

freely. If you take that and you couple

that with John and you understand.

And John, he said whenever I'm talking about thirst and water,

I'm talking about the Spirit and you couple all that together.

Before he closes out the Book of Revelation, he is once again

underscoring this is for whosoever will that is thirsty.

The promise of the Father is for you.

And when you receive the promise of the Father, you will speak in

new tongues as the spirit you just received gives you

utterance. So it's for everyone.

Someone say it's for everyone. It's for everyone.

I ain't don't know where I'm at anymore.

It's for everyone. Now, if I've already received

the gift of the Holy Ghost, that initial sign of His Spirit, and

I'm in the service, and that holy hush happens, that

boisterous speaking in tongues happen, and there's a reverence

and I already had the Holy Ghost, it's not as though I'm

getting the initial evidence of the Holy Ghost all over again.

But now having been put in the body by virtue of receiving the

Holy Ghost, I have access to the gifts of the Spirit.

Let's pause for a moment because the last verse in our text this

morning talks about all these things.

Work by the same Spirit. It's all by the same.

It's the Spirit that you received at your new birth.

They all work by the same Spirit.

And look, that spirit divides or distributes it says in verse 11

to every man severally or as his own, as he will, as God wills.

What that means is this, there's a possibility for anybody that's

filled with the baptism of the Holy Ghost to operate in any

gifts of the Spirit. It's listen, this, it's not like

you got, it's this level of super spirituality you reach and

then you can operate in the gifts of the Spirit.

That's not the case. For that matter, the Bible tells

us in the church at Corinth that they lacked in no gift.

If the Bible also talks about that, they had some carnality

that happened in the church. They weren't perfect, but they

had been born again of the water and the Spirit.

What happens in the gifts of the Spirit?

Is it? Yeah, it is your human body and

your human mind and thoughts and tongue working in tandem with

his spirit. All right.

And so anybody in this place could be used in any of the 9

gifts of the Spirit. Why do you say that, brother

McGee? Because I think sometimes we sit

on cues and we get filled the Holy Ghost and we think, well,

no, that's only pastor's job or that's only that person's job.

So that's not the case. We need to be open that God can

use any one of his word of knowledge, right?

And I've, I've done series on all these things that someone's

like watch, see, talk about where you can go back.

I have a series on the gifts of the Spirit somewhere there in

great podcast land. Amen.

Amen. And we probably spend a lot of

time there, not as much as we have in Genesis, but none the

less anybody can. But the Bible also tells us, and

it's like verse #29 of our text verse, Corinthians 12, verse 29.

Are all apostles, Are all prophets, are all teachers, are

all workers of miracles, have all the gifts of healing?

Do all speak with tongues, do all interpret?

And the question all that is no, not everybody is used with

diverse tongues and interpretation of tongues.

No, but that's when it says do all speak with tongues.

That's not applying to your initial gift.

Someone say, well, see right there, not everybody.

No, it's misapplied. This applies to the gift of

diverse tongues, not your initial sign of the Holy Ghost.

All right? And so it's important to

differentiate between the two. Amen.

The Bible says in First Corinthians 1413, I got to move

down. The Bible says, wherefore let

him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may

interpret. So we're talking about

exercising the gift of diverse tongues, pray that he may

interpret. That's important again, because

in order for the church to be edified, there must be an

interpretation outside of that. Sometimes confusion can be

generated within a house when there's no interpretation.

Why? Well, I hate to tell you, I only

know one language and there's some days I'm wondering if I

know that one. I make my family proud sometimes

as I stand behind the pulpit and say stuff.

They're like, we don't know that guy.

You don't have his verb agreeing with his subject, you know, And

what I'm saying here, when we look throughout Scripture, it

was usually all everyone. What are you saying?

For instance, on the day of Pentecost all 120 spoke in

tongues all when you read, for instance, Acts chapter #10

Cornelius of the Italian band, a Gentile.

The Bible speaks for one in in verse #42 They knew that they

had received that gift, that the Holy Ghost have been baptized,

if you will by the Spirit, because the Bible says they

heard them speak in tongues. Who did?

The whole household of Cornelius when you read later in Acts

Acts 19 · chapter mention

chapter 19 and the the 12 disciples of Ephesus that they

met and the question was asked, have you received the Holy Ghost

since you believed? We didn't even know there was

such a thing as the Holy Ghost. And then they begin asking them

concerning what how they were baptized.

The Bible speaks that they received the gift of the Holy

Ghost and spoke in other tongues as well.

Who? All 12 of them.

It wasn't a splattering of one or two here when the two No, no,

no, some did, some didn't. They all did because that was

the initial sign of receiving the Holy Ghost.

All right, that differentiates from the gift of divers tongues

that we have in First Corinthians 12 and 1st

Corinthians 14, for that matter. Looking at this again, is that

right? Doing OK?

Look at the skin. Even in Acts chapter #8 some

people want to quibble over Acts chapter #8 because there's

Philip down there. He's in Samaria.

He's preaching their signs and wonders taking place, evil

spirits being dispatched. And the Bible says there's there

is a man in the city, Simon, who was a sorcerer who bewitched the

people. And he also believed the Bible

says in verse 13 of Acts 8. And he was baptized and he he

continued with Phillip and he wondered at the signs and the

miracles that were going on. But word got back, word was sent

to Jerusalem and heard that that these at Samaria had received

the word. So they sent to them Peter and

John. Peter and John comes down.

And the Bible says whenever they came down, verse 15, who when

they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive

the Holy Ghost. And whenever we read that they

did in verse 17, they received the Holy Ghost.

A lot of people want to quibble over well, it didn't say that

they spoke in tongues, but you got to remember the Bible says

Simon's observing all this Simon, who was once a sorcerer.

Look at verse 18. It says he says when he saw the

laying on of the hands of the apostles and the and the Holy

Ghost was given he offered them money.

What did he pick up on? If the Holy Ghost is just

something that just happens and you just have faith that it

happened and there's nothing visible, nothing audible.

What did he pick up on? What caused him to say, wow,

I'll pay money to what did he pick up on?

I'll tell you what he picked up on.

He picked up on what happened in Acts 2, What happened in Acts

19, What happened in Acts 10 because when you receive the

gift of the Holy Ghost, ye shall speak with new tongues.

He picked up on the exact same thing that happened everything

else and to solidify in nature, both in Deuteronomy and also in

the Gospels like Matthew, the Bible states that out of the

mouth of two or three witnesses. It states in different ways.

Let every word be established or let the matter be established.

We have at least three, if not 4 Amen precedence here in the New

Testament Scripture that they received the Holy Ghost they

received or they spoke in new tongues when they received the

baptism of the Holy Ghost. That establishes the matter.

If you got two or three that this is not a one pony verse

somewhat, no, we haven't established Amen pattern Amen of

what happens when someone receives the gift of the Holy

Ghost. What that means is we don't need

to expect anything less than what the Scripture than what the

scripture preaches and then what it teaches.

Amen. And so there's multiple in these

different settings, people receiving the gift of the Holy

Ghost and speaking in new tongues.

So if we come over then the 1st Corinthians 14 and we tried to

apply some of the same stuff, it's not going to work because

it's the gift of tongues, of diverse tongues.

For instance, First Corinthians 14 and verse 27, if any man

speak an unknown tongue, let it be by two or at most 3, and that

by course and let one interpret. You can't take that and apply

that to the initial sign of receiving the gift of the Holy

Ghost. That applies to the gift of

diverse tongues, meaning that two or at most 3 should do this,

that by course or by turn, and that there should be 1 interpret

why for the edification, because if its purpose is for the

edification the body, we want the body edified all right, for

the purpose of edification, Amen.

So you miss apply their operations if we don't

understand their differences. Amen.

My glasses back on here. So if you've ever been in the

service, I don't know if you have.

If you've never been in the service, there are times that

there is the operation of diverse tongues and you can

almost feel it happening before it happens.

A shift in the atmosphere, in the service, that someone with a

loud voice, elevated tone enough to rest our attention, will

speak in a language that is unknown to them, of tongues, of

men or angels. Amen.

And then we pause, and we wait upon the Lord and upon someone

to willingly yield themselves to give the interpretation a right

of the tongue. I don't have time to go on all

this, but there's a big difference between a translation

of a tongue and an interpretation of a tongue.

Translation could be word for word meaning of what is spoken.

Interpretation is like a general paraphrasing of concept and

meaning. All right, so it's important.

And yes, we want to be sensitive to the Holy Ghost, that spirit

that we received that placed us in the body for operating in

these things. Because yes, for the fridge

sometimes, or I say this, I pray in the spirit, I, I want to get

there every day, right? And I told you when I do that, I

might not know what I'm saying, but God through me is doing

something for stuff I don't even know about, about circumstances,

situations, maybe even things in my own life that he's I'm not

even Privy to. Amen.

I need that, that personal edification, that personal

building up. But the church also needs

edification as well. And so we got to keep a, a, a

proper balance. The Bible says in Jude one and

verse #20 I'm trying to keep, listen folks, I got to keep

track of time. I, I was at, I was a revival

brother Curtin and, and we had four services, 1st 2 services.

I used a little hanky like I do around here.

And I preached for 45 minutes. It things were operating right

with his air. It was hot in the church.

So the next night I upgraded to a wash rag.

I preached for 50 minutes. The last service I was there, I

upgraded to a hand town. I preached an hour and 7

minutes. So if you ever see the wash rag

start to increase, as it gets longer, so does the sermon.

And if it's harder, I'm staying longer.

I told them that at camp meeting because I'd upgraded there too

by the last night. I have this big old towel.

But they I say they didn't let me appreciate last night.

Services went on for two hours and 45 minutes and they said you

do what you want to and I wasn't going to do that to him.

Then I got all kinds of complaints that I didn't.

So I don't know, nonetheless, Jude one verse 20.

But ye beloved, building up yourselves, see, there's the

personal edification, building up yourselves on your most holy

faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, keep yourselves in the

love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ

unto eternal life. There is nothing wrong with

praying in the Holy Ghost, nothing wrong in speaking in

tongues as you have your time of prayer.

Again, whenever we do this, we move into a mode of building up

ourselves on our most holy faith.

All right, but again, this is not to be confused.

That time of praying in tongues is not to be confused then.

Well, I need an interpreter. No, and it's not to be confused

with that initial sign of the Holy Ghost that you received

when you first come to know the Lord.

The benefits are there. The Bible describes it in First

Corinthians 14 and verse 2. For he that speaketh in an

unknown tongue without an interpreter is is being implied

here. Speaketh not unto men, but unto

God. For no man understandeth him,

howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

But verse 14 of the same chapter tells us, For if I pray in an

unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding

it's unfruitful. But God understands and God

knows what he is doing. Praying or speaking in the

unknown tongue without an interpretation is something that

both we and others do not understand.

Unless, and this has happened, there is a foreigner or someone

that knows more than one, more than one language there that may

speak the language that God is speaking through you, that

tongue of men, and they may understand, although you may not

understand. Amen.

And so I could get into a lot of, you know, on the ditches

here of the road here. But I think it's important even

this morning that we need to be sensitive to know whenever God's

just want us to pray in the Spirit and whenever he's wanting

to edify the church with tongues of interpretation, right?

Because sometimes I think God's really moving on someone and

he's really moving on them just to pray and intercede in the

Spirit. And he's not wanting to edify

his body. He's wanting to edify them.

But sometimes we, we get lost in the fray, you know, and miss it.

And that's OK because we're humans, aren't we?

God's a gracious God and a merciful God, but nonetheless

praying in the Spirit act Romans chapter #8 verse 26, it says

likewise, the spirit also helpeth our infirmities for it.

And I've, I've made reference to this already.

For we know not what we should pray for as we ought, but the

Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with

groanings which cannot be uttered.

Amen. So Paul didn't discourage them

from being used in diverse gifts of tongues.

He didn't discourage them from praying in the Holy Ghost or

praying in tongues. Not at all.

Matter of fact, he even said one place in Scripture, he said he

was thankful that he spoke in tongues more than most, right?

But he's basically given us a guideline to distinguish the

difference between the different manifestation of tongues in our

life and not to make one or the other what it isn't or what it,

you know, understand what I'm saying, Not to try to apply.

No, not, not everybody. So not everybody will get, you

know, speak in tongues. He's trying to differentiate so

we won't mix and muddle these together.

Amen. If a message in tongues has no

interpreter, there could be a few things at play.

Maybe maybe maybe the person mistaking that for really they

should have just been praying and devotion to God in tongues.

Or perhaps it happens where flesh.

Maybe someone was dealing with someone to give the

interpretation, but they were scared and afraid and they just

didn't do it. We've had instances here.

People went home and then called back, pastor, I'm sorry I said

this is what God want to say. OK, we'll share that.

That's fine. Amen.

The Bible says in First Corinthians 1413, Wherefore let

him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may

interpret. And here's the thing, if God

uses you to give a message in tongues, you also need to pray

that you might interpret. Don't just think.

Well then, then that's on somebody else.

No, it could be you. It could be Amen.

I've seen a goddess used me in that aspect before.

Amen. But he wants them to understand.

Amen. 1st Corinthians 14, verse 28.

But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the

church, and let him speak to himself and to God.

That is wisdom. Let there be silence in the

church. Let us just interact with God

for a moment and see where the edification needs to be at.

Amen. A person may be present in the

room. We have never heard someone

speak in tongues, period. And it could convince them that

indeed something real is taking place.

Especially whenever you are in a setting of multiple cultures

where there's multiple languages.

I know, dear friend, there was there in their congregation,

they had had a, a student from LSU that was with them who was a

Lebanese student in their their congregation and the gift of

diverse tongues, a message in tongues went forth and there was

no interpreter to the tongues in that message.

But this Lebanese guest said, why was that person speaking in

my native language? I speak Arabic.

Why were they speaking that Arabic language?

And he was at first, a little initially upset because the

person had, you know, invited them to church.

And he's like, why would you arrange this for someone to

speak of my native tongue in public and rebuke me for my

sins? Neither the person that had

invited him nor did the person who gave the message, Neither

one of them knew Arabic. But God used a miraculous moment

to speak to a Lebanese student and said, and here's God.

He's such a gentleman. There's no embarrassment because

no one knew Arabic. Come on.

He can speak specifically to that young man.

Folks, that's God. OK, I'm trying to keep an eye

here. God's not the author of

confusion. The Bible says everything should

be done decently and in order. Amen.

Come see, I'm at 44. Stand with me because I don't

want to take advantage of you folks.

I've taken advantage of a lot of people the past 10 days, so I'm

good. The initial sign of of having

received the Holy Ghost speaking in tongues, that's for everyone.

The gift of tongues as the gift in First Corinthians 12.

Some do. Some though, praying in the Holy

Ghost, that can be for everyone. The initial sign when your first

initial experience with the Lord, repentance, believing all

of that, it puts you in the body, right?

The gift of tongues, edification for the body, praying in the

Holy Ghost, edification for self, right?

You can receive the Holy Ghost anytime, right?

Huh. You're going to be using the

gift of tongues. It's going to require an

interpreter in order for the edification to take place.

You can pray in the Spirit, in the church, at home, anywhere

and everywhere. Amen.

I hope this has helped somebody today.

Man, I can say so much more about the Holy Ghost because

you're baptized by this, you don't believe yourself into the

body and baptism by water alone don't get you into the body.

You got to be baptized by the Spirit to get into the body.

He told him Mark 1615 right? He that believeth and baptized

shall be saved. He believeth not shall be

damned. These signs shall follow them

that believe, and among the list they shall speak in new.

It's so good. God's folks.

This is a masterful book here. It's so interconnected it blows

my mind. I've been reading this thing for

years and I still come across and I'm like, wow, it's a gift

from God. Amen.

So if you don't have the Holy Ghost today, you can receive the

Holy Ghost, and when you do, you'll speak in tongues.

Jesus told Nicodemus, right? The wind bloweth where it

listeth where it desires. All right, You didn't hear the

sound thereof. He said.

So is everyone. He was born of the Spirit.

Amen. All right, I got to shut up.

Let's pray right now. Today, Father, I love you, God.

I need your spirit. God, I need Lord.

That initial work that I did, Lord, when I was 8 years old,

received the gift of the Holy Ghost and spoke in other tongues

as the Spirit gave the utterance.

God, that placed me in the body, God being a part of the body,

Lord, it gave Lord Jesus access to the gifts of the Spirit.

I pray, O Lord, that our part of being in the body, Lord, if I

yield myself to Lord, you, Lord, would want to desire to use me

in any of those things. Lord, there's a possibility of

that taking place, Lord, of speaking, Lord Jesus with the

gift of tongues for the purpose of Lord interpretation and

edification. God, in my daily prayer life and

my time with you, God, I can, Lord, speak in tongues and pray

in tongues. Lord, you can intercede your

spirit through me, God, and things can take place and things

can be spoken I'm not Privy to, but heaven knows the Lord, and

it may be unraveling something that needs to be Lord attended

to. I thank you, Lord, that you have

given us these privileges. I pray, O Lord, today, help us

God, to operate, Lord, with diligence, God with wisdom, Lord

Jesus, in these matters. God, they are gifts that you

have given to your church, your body Lord, and as far as the

Holy Ghost to whosoever so ever will God if they come, they can

drink of the waters of life freely.

God bless you people today, strengthen them, minister them

and help them. Lord Jesus to think on these

things. In the lovely name of Jesus

Christ I pray Amen, Amen. The church say Amen Amen.
