  1. Is this house, God says where is this house that you've built me?

  2. Fact of the matter is we can't contain him in any building.

  3. Maybe the essence of who he is, but we can't contain him in just

  4. any building. Not all the buildings of the

  5. world would be able to contain the Lord, Amen.

  6. That we're thankful tonight for him.

  7. This coming Friday and Saturday is a music conference at Haven

  8. Penny at Haven Pentecostal Church in Henderson, KY.

  9. And so there's information of that back on our bulletin board

  10. or if you have any questions about it, the Masons either set

  11. could probably help you out in that regard as well.

  12. So just be advised that also this coming Sunday is our fifth

  13. Sunday, and we will be having Pastor Anthony Wilkes and his

  14. wife with us in that service. And so we're looking forward to

  15. that as well. Amen.

  16. If we could turn to the book of Genesis, trying to for some

  17. reason I can't get into my iPad that's just doing whatever it

  18. is, but Genesis chapter #21. Be there, say Amen, and we'll

  19. give this one more try. Use my other finger.

  20. Now I should be able to have a code, but you know, everything

  21. has its own mind sometimes. Take a picture of you and do

  22. that. Maybe we get a group photo

  23. going. I don't know, folks.

  24. It is what it is. That's fine.

  25. I'll teach off my phone. You can get it.

  26. Yeah, that's fine. We're going to start.

  27. That just is proving for like it seems like the past couple weeks

  28. of my life. Matter of fact, let me hit AO

  29. course right now. It's all right.

  30. That's fine. You can bring it up here.

  31. Ever my spirit, forever I pray. In fact, the lust below of love,

  32. I'm singing peace, Peace. The wonderful peace, it's coming

  33. down from the Father above sweep over my spirit forever, I pray.

  34. In fact, the lust bellows a love.

  35. One more time, Jesus, Oh peace, peace, oh wonderful peace.

  36. Come me down from the Father above.

  37. Sweep over my spirit, whoever I pray.

  38. In fact, the blast below. Oh.

  39. Oh, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Lord, thank you for it.

  40. God, when life's overwhelmed you, you'll hear, Pastor McGee,

  41. if you're ever at this church and life's over, if you ever

  42. come in this building, you hear me singing peace, peace around

  43. here. You know it's in a fix.

  44. I find great consolation in that old course.

  45. Every time I sing it, I just feel that peace just come and

  46. just laying like a dove on my shoulder.

  47. Amen. Genesis, chapter 21.

    Genesis 21 chapter mention

  48. Thank you, dear. Verse 15.

  49. This is where we left off last week.

  50. If you remember Abraham has ushered Ishmael into the hands

  51. of Haggar his mother, and they have departed and they are

  52. wandering in the wilderness. Start with verse 15.

  53. The water was spent in the bottle and she passed the child

  54. under one of the shrubs. She went and sat her down over

  55. against him, a good way off as it were a bow shot, for she

  56. said, let me not see the death of the child.

  57. And she said over against him and lift up her voice and wept.

  58. God heard the voice of the lad. The Angel of God called the

  59. Haggar out of heaven, and said to her, What elith the Haggar?

  60. Fear not, for God have heard the voice of the lad where he is.

  61. Rise, lift the lad, and hold him in thine hand.

  62. I will make him a great nation. God opened her eyes and she saw

  63. a well of water, and she went, filled the bottle with water,

  64. and gave the lad drink. And God was with the lad, and he

  65. grew and dwelled in the wilderness and became an Archer.

  66. He dwelt the wilderness of Puran, and his mother took him a

  67. wife out of the land of Egypt. That's where she was from.

  68. We'll stop there for now This I had a hard time for a title

  69. tonight. It's kind of generic to

  70. encompass everything going to talk about my wife told me to

  71. tell you I had to make it so generic because I talked about

  72. the weaning moment last you know, week had to be generic

  73. this week. Anyway, I want to talk about

  74. God's plan for life and legacy. God's plan for life and legacy

  75. in essence, what we've seen here again, the son of the flesh,

  76. Ishmael, Abraham's and and and Hagar Abraham had certain means

  77. of dealing with it, of course, at the advice of his wife Sarah

  78. and endorsed by God, right and now Haggar, Haggar has a means

  79. of, of dealing with it as well. Amen.

  80. God's plan for life and legacy. Thank you Lord God for your

  81. word. Thank you Lord for the truth of

  82. your word. They are words to live by God.

  83. They are words, God, that are instructional for our lives, if

  84. we'll see them and accept them and such God will give the glory

  85. for it in the name of Jesus Christ and I pray, Amen.

  86. God bless you in the night, Jesus name.

  87. Again, what have we left? Haggar and Ishmael.

  88. Last week they were released. They released for many

  89. obligations to Sarah and to Abraham.

  90. Again, Haggar was a handmaiden or a servant of sorts, a slave

  91. of sorts to Sarah. And so whenever Sarah asked that

  92. Abraham would release both her Hagar and Ishmael, they were

  93. then relieved of any obligations.

  94. And along with being relieved of any obligations, they're

  95. relieved of any perks that may have come with being a part of

  96. the household of Abraham and Sarah way as well.

  97. So the Bible says in verse 14 that they were sent away into

  98. the wilderness of their sheba and they wandered there,

  99. wandered there again, the word wandering tending to the

  100. definition of like a stray animal or like a person who is

  101. lost. They wondered in the wilderness.

  102. And something that kind of struck me this week as I was

  103. considering these verses of Scripture and just where we've

  104. been this far, I went back to to Genesis chapter 16, where Sarah,

    Genesis 16 chapter mention

  105. Sarah, at that moment it was Sarah, not Sarah, had dismissed

  106. Hagar because after Hagar conceived Isaac, the Bible says

  107. that Sarah picked up on that she was being despised in the eyes

  108. of Hagar because now she had conceived.

  109. And of course Sarah was unable to conceive that she was

  110. despised. And whenever I see this, I see

  111. that each time, both in Genesis 16 and in Genesis 21, that Sarah

  112. or Sarah I has been instrumental in having Hagar leave or now

  113. Hagar in Ishmael leave each time again, the first time in in

  114. Genesis 16, she picked up on the disdain that it seemed like that

  115. Hagar had toured her because now Hagar could have a child and,

  116. and Sarah I couldn't. But now she has them leave

  117. because she's picked up on Ishmael mocking of her son

  118. Isaac, the promised son at, at the, at the weaning.

  119. And so this this is interesting as a matter of fact, in in the

  120. time when she dealt with Hagar alone with before Ishmael was

  121. born in in Genesis 16, the Bible talks about Sarah dealing she

  122. dealt harshly with Hagar. And now it talks about her

  123. casting out Hagar and Ishmael. But here's what I'm getting at

  124. as I'm saying all this in both of these episodes.

  125. If there was disdain and if there was mocking in each

  126. instance, Sarah never dealt with the attitude or addressed the

  127. attitude. She only just expelled the

  128. person. She never dealt with what was

  129. going on. She just showed the person the

  130. exit door. She never addressed what was

  131. going on. She's like, let's throw out the

  132. baby with the bathwater. Now let's just get serious for a

  133. moment because that's easy to do.

  134. My kids adopt something I said a long time ago, and it's from a

  135. book that I read. The issues are issues and people

  136. are people love people and deal with issues.

  137. But it's easy sometimes to blur the line that if a person has a

  138. lifestyle of an issue, that it becomes their identity, right?

  139. And so I'm not sitting here with a big whip on Sarah.

  140. I'm just saying I can see where that could happen.

  141. All right? And I'm thinking tonight that

  142. maybe, maybe part and parcel, that was some of Abraham's

  143. struggle as he's telling Hagar and Ishmael that you all need to

  144. move on your way because as he sent him away, perhaps he was a

  145. munker, but maybe he had in the back of his mind, you know what,

  146. We could have addressed the problem.

  147. Instead, we're just getting rid of the people because for

  148. everything, I'm just, I'm just talking a little bit right now.

  149. It's just meandering. If for everything that someone

  150. does wrong, they probably have some things that they've done

  151. right too. In the New Testament the Greek

  152. word sarts. Typically in our our New

  153. Testament is translated as flesh has several meanings though and

  154. you got to apply the meaning according to the context that

  155. the word is used in. For instance, this same word can

  156. mean a soft substance that's covers the bones or flesh.

  157. It can mean the sensuous nature of man flesh.

  158. It can mean the human or earthly nature of man that's apart from

  159. God, that is prone to sin, flesh, all right.

  160. It can mean all these different things.

  161. So you got to see how it's used in order to know what it means.

  162. I guess what I'm saying is this is that Ishmael's flesh or

  163. literally his body, his body, he was literally flesh.

  164. He had a body, all right, But he was also then in Galatians 4, as

  165. Paul looked back upon this setting, the Scripture

  166. representing as one that was born after the flesh, right?

  167. Born after a not just a physical skin nature, but after a earthly

  168. nature that's that's prone to to sin as well.

  169. And so throughout Scripture I read in the New Testament that

  170. we're constantly admonished as New Testament states, Saints to

  171. mortify and it's not mortified the flesh, which the word

  172. mortify means kill. It's not kill the flesh, but to

  173. mortify the deeds of the flesh or the works of the flesh, Or we

  174. might even talk about the desires of the flesh, the Bible

  175. says in Romans 8 and verse 13. For if you live after the flesh,

  176. you shall die. But if you through the Spirit do

  177. mortify here it is the deeds of the body, ye shall live in all

  178. that. I'm saying this, our flesh or

  179. our literal bodies don't need to die to kill the sinful deeds of

  180. the flesh. Ishmael was sent out.

  181. But we find in the few settings of scriptures that we are in

  182. that Hagar is seeing that perhaps he's struggling for

  183. life, literally struggling for life.

  184. His flesh did not have to die for the nature of the flesh to

  185. die. And we all better thank God for

  186. that because there would not be a living one among us, Amen.

  187. Wouldn't be a living one among us.

  188. The Bible says in Galatians 524. And they that are Christ or

  189. belonging to him have crucified the flesh with the affections

  190. and lust. Again, it's not your literal

  191. body has been crucified, but it is those that nature of the

  192. flesh, that sensuous part of man that is prone to sin, that part

  193. of man has been crucified with the affections in the lust.

  194. So the human body wasn't crucified.

  195. Christ's human body was crucified.

  196. Ours don't have to because his has, but that human nature was.

  197. And so I say all this kind of the preface, what I'm going into

  198. tonight, because without that clarity, sometimes we might be

  199. confused why God would allow Ishmael to live in the

  200. wilderness being a son of the flesh.

  201. Why even allow him to live? He's Hagar, son of the flesh.

  202. He's Abraham, son of the flesh. But here is a woman, and I

  203. stated this last week as we was going to go into this week, Here

  204. is a woman that's lost in the wilderness, aimlessly wandering

  205. in the wilderness with Ishmael, the son of her flesh.

  206. And so when we're talking about crucifix, crucifying the flesh,

  207. the only crucifix we really need to be rallying around is the

  208. death of the human earthly nature, not the human beings.

  209. I guess what I mean? And all that is this.

  210. Sometimes we can crucify the person rather than crucify the

  211. deed. So there's been some time that's

  212. passed already here in the wilderness.

  213. All right. Evidently they've been here long

  214. enough, however long. I don't know how long it took

  215. Sister Sheila, but Abraham gave them a bottle of water and that

  216. has now been spent. That has been spent at their

  217. time here in the wilderness. And so Hagar is fearful now

  218. about her son again. He's not a kid.

  219. He's not sucking his thumb. He's about 16 to 17 years old.

  220. But none the less, she is fearful about him surviving, and

  221. she she places him under the shade of a shrub.

  222. The Bible says to us in verse, skip the chapter here in verse

  223. #15 that she cast the child under one of the shrubs.

  224. And that word cast there is interesting.

  225. It means any time that this word is used and the human body is

  226. the object of the verb, any time he's used in the human body as

  227. the object of the verb, it almost always is referring to a

  228. lowering down of a dead body or a lowering down of a body into a

  229. grave or a person into something that will become their grave.

  230. So that underscores then how determined that Hagar was that

  231. this guy is eating away. He's he's, he's going to die.

  232. She cast him under that shrub of the shade of a tree.

  233. And so God here begins not as though he hasn't, but he's doing

  234. a work in the wilderness. And this is the way that,

  235. listen, you can go through your Bible.

  236. It'd be a good little topical study for you and look at God,

  237. the different times that He's moved concerning his people in

  238. the wilderness or wilderness situations.

  239. In Genesis, again, chapter 16, Hagar was disdain, Amen.

  240. Disdaining Sarah because she felt, of course, unseen.

  241. Now she was conceived and pregnant, so she's disdaining

  242. Sarah. But again, God had her at that

  243. moment flee into a wilderness where while she was there, He

  244. stripped her of all of this sense of being abandoned by

  245. humanity and not seen by anyone. And it was there in the

  246. wilderness. Then she came to that

  247. conclusion. You are the God who ease me.

  248. He reframed her, thinking a man and she returned to Sarah to

  249. serve under her, knowing that God had seen her.

  250. You look at the 40 years of wilderness journeys of the

  251. nation of Israel in the wilderness.

  252. Here they are while they're in the wilderness.

  253. It exposes their unbelief. It exposes they're grumbling and

  254. they're murmuring. That's happening all the time.

  255. It exposes their rebellion while they're in the wilderness, but

  256. it also teaches them to depend upon God.

  257. They have to wait each day for manna from heaven and water that

  258. would come from a flintstone, and they're going to have daily

  259. guidance. And when the Spirit of the Lord

  260. moves from the Tabernacle, they move.

  261. It also was a place where they learn to depend upon God.

  262. Moses in the backside side of the desert, his wilderness,

  263. Midian wilderness, a Midian experience on the backside of

  264. the desert. It prepared a Moses to be a

  265. humble deliverer, shepherd for Israel.

  266. That happened in the wilderness. And even when we read about

  267. Elijah, we see him take a day's journey into the wilderness, and

  268. it's there that he's empowered. He went in there as a

  269. discouraged prophet, a prophet that's really requesting God

  270. just take my life. But in that place he was

  271. empowered that that that that just disappointed, discouraged

  272. prophet was empowered to listen to God and to leave that place

  273. in the continuing ministry. And from there he would go and

  274. anoint some key people amends for some future things.

  275. A man that his ministry wasn't over and all that shifted right

  276. there in a wilderness. In the wilderness, David finds

  277. himself in The Cave of a Dulum and all kinds of people that are

  278. in debt, discourage and like the four DS show up, you know, just

  279. not a ragtag group of people, but it's there.

  280. His leadership, his leadership skills are really honed right

  281. there in that aspect in place. And so wilderness, typically

  282. through scripture are places where God redirects people.

  283. It's where he can reorientate our our perspectives.

  284. And he does the same here with with Hagar.

  285. Hagar is sure that Ishmael is dying or death is around the

  286. corner. And you can only imagine as a

  287. mother, she's feeling hopeless, right?

  288. The water is spent. There isn't any around that she

  289. she sees. And so as a result of Sister

  290. Grace, she don't want to see her baby die.

  291. She lays him under the shrub and she goes like 50 to 100 yards.

  292. That's a bow shot 50 to 100 yards away from him.

  293. Because she don't want to. She don't.

  294. You know, you've heard some people, you know, I just want

  295. to, I don't want to go to the hospital and see such and such

  296. that's on their deathbed. I just want to remember them as

  297. they are, right? And so here she's not wanting to

  298. be, she was there when the baby was born.

  299. She don't want to be there because she don't want to take

  300. in and consume what he's going to be like whenever she dies.

  301. She can't, she's not able to bear this.

  302. So she even says, she cries out to the Lord, Lord, Lord, let me

  303. not see the death. She says in verse #16 let me not

  304. see the the death of the child. And here she is.

  305. She's feeling powerless to change any of this.

  306. We're at a circumstance right here that only God can change.

  307. Only God can change. She wept, the Bible tells us in

  308. verse 16, right? She lifts up her voice.

  309. She wept, the Bible says. But evidently she has not wept

  310. alone because the last sentence of verse 16 says, look at it

  311. now. And she sat over against him and

  312. lifted up her voice, or lift up her voice and wept.

  313. Look at verse #17 and God heard the voice of the she's the 1

  314. weeping. But God has heard the voice of

  315. the lad. God's heard the voice of the

  316. lad. Now, the only way that this can

  317. come about here, we have no record in Scripture that Ishmael

  318. cried out. We have no record of that.

  319. We're told that Haggard wept, and we're told that perhaps

  320. Ishmael may have been crying too, because God heard the voice

  321. of the lad, whether he literally cried out or if it was the

  322. musings of his heart and mind. We talked about that before here

  323. too, in the past 40 weeks. All right, whether he heard that

  324. nonetheless God was included into the voice of Ishmael.

  325. Now just just just walk with me here a little bit.

  326. I looked up this word voice. I looked it up in the ancient

  327. Hebrew lexicon of the Bible, and it gives the old pictographs

  328. like this real, real ancient Hebrew, right?

  329. The pictographs like pictures and so the picture for the word

  330. voice in Hebrew going from right to left was the picture of a

  331. circle with a line through it, which was like a sun at the

  332. horizon. And then the picture of a staff,

  333. which they don't show the staff like curved up, but they show it

  334. like AJ curved down a staff and the the the lexicon or said this

  335. it said the picture graph is a picture of the sun at the

  336. horizon. The gathering of the light and

  337. the picture of the shepherd's staff representing authority

  338. said combine these gathering to the staff.

  339. When the shepherd called the sheep, they swiftly came to him.

  340. That's interesting to me because God heard the voice of Ishmael.

  341. God heard the voice, if you will, of a if I put it in terms

  342. like this of a young man, a young lamb that was gathering to

  343. his staff or his authority. If I put in terms like this,

  344. when we talk about the son of our flesh, He was at a place of

  345. surrender. He heard the voice, the

  346. gathering of Ishmael. We have all these different

  347. variables of the wilderness, all these different things no doubt

  348. had help influence Ishmael to get to where he is.

  349. Lack of water lost in the wilderness.

  350. I've noticed personally that my flesh cries out sometimes

  351. whenever certain circumstances are going on.

  352. When nothing else can reach my flesh circumstances, they'll get

  353. just right and there will be a gathering of my flesh that would

  354. normally not want to have anything to do with God nor God.

  355. My flesh then starts gravitating toward him.

  356. And so God heard the voice of the lad and this say what you

  357. will tonight. Maybe it's just basic force to

  358. see but that's OK. The Bible says he heard look in

  359. verse 17. He God have heard the voice of

  360. the lad. He told to Hagar where he is.

  361. That's simple, Brother Mason. But God heard the voice of, of

  362. of Ishmael right where where he is, right in his present

  363. situation. God heard the gathering of his

  364. voice to his authority right where he was at.

  365. What are you saying the night, brother?

  366. Yeah, I'm saying this. I want people to come to church

  367. and I want them to cry at an altar and repent with contrition

  368. and all that. But can I tell you that long

  369. before they ever arrive here, God hears their voice that's

  370. gathering in His direction right from where they are.

  371. Before they've ever stepped a foot in the building, there's

  372. already been a gathering of their cry to Him, right in the

  373. middle of their mess. Amen.

  374. And so he's crying out to God. God hears him right there where

  375. he is tethering of his voice in that direction.

  376. That weak voice, that hopeless voice, that a strange voice.

  377. And Haggar, she may not have picked up on Ishmael's voice,

  378. but God had. God had heard it right.

  379. Notice she's might just a distance from him, but it

  380. doesn't even tell us that she picked up that she heard the

  381. voice, but God heard the voice. I have great comfort tonight

  382. that whenever other humans don't hear my me crying out to God,

  383. that God hears me crying out to God.

  384. Whenever we don't pick up on the crying of somebody, so that God

  385. picks up on the crying of somebody.

  386. So it had not gone unnoticed by God.

  387. And they're in a predicament right now.

  388. They are totally isolated from the rest of society in this

  389. wilderness, but God knew where they were.

  390. He hears us where we are, whether it's despair, whether

  391. it's sin, whether it's the wilderness moments, He hears us

  392. where we are again. He met Elijah in his despair,

  393. and Gideon in this fear, and the widow of Sarah Path and her

  394. poverty. All these things God met them

  395. where they are. He met Peter and his failure.

  396. He met the apostle Paul in his weakness.

  397. He meets them all where they are.

  398. Because I find in my life that God often meets me in the point

  399. of my need, not necessarily the point of my strength.

  400. My neediness draws God. Not when I have it all put

  401. together. So God told Abraham, you'll

  402. remember last week God told Abraham that Ishmael was going

  403. to become a nation. But we don't see that Haggar was

  404. in on that telling. She don't know, just like other

  405. times God told Abraham about Sarah having a son and Sarah

  406. wasn't around. He says Ishmael is going to be a

  407. nation. Hagar's not aware of the

  408. conversation. He's not.

  409. He's not even giving her instructions like we find in in

  410. verse #18 where he told her to rise, lift up the lad and hold

  411. him in thine hand. We don't read that prior until

  412. right now, not until the flesh had cried out and there was a

  413. recognition. I want you to follow this

  414. tonight, that there was a recognition and really a

  415. surrender and submission to the Shepherd's authority in that

  416. moment. And it was them based upon that,

  417. that he says in verse 18 to Haggar, arise, lift up the lad

  418. and hold him in thine hand. For if I say for or because of,

  419. he's given us the why, why, why should I do this?

  420. Lord, I will make him a great nation.

  421. I'll make him a great nation. That the amplified says, Arise,

  422. lift the Ishmael and support him with your hand.

  423. I'm going to make him a great nation.

  424. Wait a minute, wait a minute. What's going on here?

  425. Sometimes we view flesh is just flesh, but when you have

  426. submitted flesh, that submitted flesh may unlock a potential

  427. destiny, Amen. Abram already heard he would be

  428. he would be a nation, but now this boy is went to a place of

  429. crying out. God's heard his voice.

  430. There's some type of submission that's going on here.

  431. And now God's saying Haggar, he says go over, don't stay

  432. separated from him. Go over and support him, if you

  433. will, with your hand, because he's going to be a great nation,

  434. Amen. But it's it's amazing sometimes

  435. how we act differently, the people or the things when we

  436. understand the plans God may have for them.

  437. The leadership gurus say this always view everybody with a #10

  438. above their head. On the surface they may look

  439. like a low down good for nothing, but you're not to see

  440. them as they are. You're to see them as they can

  441. be. In other words, Haggar, while

  442. you're laying what very frail, weak thing over underneath the

  443. shrub. If you knew that was going to be

  444. a great nation, how much would you fight for it?

  445. If you knew it was going to cry out just a few moments later in

  446. submission to the King, right, with a recognition of the

  447. authority, how much would you how much would you try to work

  448. with it in a submissive state? I know I don't want to deal with

  449. nothing that's unsubmitted. Yeah, but if it becomes

  450. submitted, it could unlock a potential that's on site.

  451. I've told you before, I believe God has destiny for everybody in

  452. this world. There's something on their life.

  453. But what will lock or unlock it is their point of submission to

  454. the higher power. Thou either bind it up or thou

  455. set it free. Amen, He said.

  456. Here, here's the Son in the flesh.

  457. It's got submission. It's recognizing me.

  458. It's submission, she says. I need you now to support it.

  459. I need you to support it with your hand.

  460. Amen. I know he looked weak and frail.

  461. He's the perishing boy before, but now he's the seed of a great

  462. nation. You've just learned, huh?

  463. There's some, there's some God potential that's here now that

  464. he submitted. You can't do anything with flesh

  465. unless it's submitted. Old coal miner, preacher, right?

  466. What was his name? But Russell, They've all stated

  467. here 1000 times before. You can cast demons out, but you

  468. can't cast out the flesh. You speak to a demon on the

  469. authority of the Lord Jesus Christ and it can go.

  470. You can't do that with flesh. Flesh has a will, and it has to

  471. bend its will into submission. Amen.

  472. So I believe there's destiny for everybody, but whether it lives

  473. or dies, or whether it grows, or whether it lies dormant, it's

  474. all at that point of submission. Some, some of us at times have

  475. been driven by the deeds of the flesh, the works of the flesh,

  476. like Galatians 5, the fruit of the Spirit.

  477. But the works of the flesh are spoken of there too, The works

  478. of the flesh, right? All these different things,

  479. we've been driven by them, Huh? An amazing thing to me.

  480. The Bible says after she had done this in verse 19, that God

  481. opened her eyes and she saw a well of water.

  482. This was my mind, because the way Scripture even reads almost

  483. it's not as though the well was never there.

  484. It's as though the well had always been there.

  485. Now her eyes are open to the well.

  486. Well's there all along, but now God has her eyes open to see the

  487. well. After she supports the submitted

  488. flesh. After she supports that her eyes

  489. are open to the well, it's almost as though she couldn't

  490. even see the established well until she understood the

  491. potential of that impoverished, impoverished flesh laying under

  492. the shrub of a tree. God opened her eyes though, the

  493. Bible says to both. She seen both the child then for

  494. what he could be and also saw the well.

  495. And the Bible says she gave him drinks.

  496. She nourished him. I guess I say all this because I

  497. think sometimes we've always just painted the Ishmael as some

  498. evil that's deserving of death. His mockery needed to die.

  499. And yes, there had to be a separation to preserve the

  500. Isaac. But that's not to say there were

  501. some redeemable qualities whenever flesh becomes

  502. submitted, where all of us would be a dead end.

  503. Verse 20 says God was with the lad.

  504. What? Yes, God was with the lad.

  505. And Hagar found him a wife from her people.

  506. She was an Egyptian herself. And the Bible talks about how he

  507. grew and he grew where? Right there in the wilderness

  508. and he become a skilled person with the bow.

  509. Well, you pastor, I'm saying let's be careful about riding

  510. people off that they're unworthy of greatness or they're unworthy

  511. of blessing or they're unworthy of XYZ.

  512. Because the fact of the matter, God may be hearing their

  513. yearnings before your ear is even heard it.

  514. If, if you could think, if you knew everybody's origin story

  515. and we wrote them off based upon where they started, you would

  516. have stolen yourself from some great missionaries and

  517. evangelists and pastors and. Let's go on.

  518. We got to go, right? We're going to finish up chapter

  519. 21, probably verse 22. And it came to pass at that time

  520. that Abimelech, remember he was just in the last chapter.

  521. Remember the whole she's not my sister, my wife scenario

  522. favorite Abimelech and Picole, the chief captain of the his

  523. whole spake and I'm going to just keep reading unto Abraham

  524. saying God is with thee and all that thou doest now, therefore

  525. swearing to me here by God that that will not deal falsely with

  526. me nor with my son nor with my son's son, but according to the

  527. kindness that I have done unto thee.

  528. Perhaps he's referring to you know the episode in the last

  529. chapter you got your wife back. Everything was well.

  530. I didn't touch her so and so forth.

  531. Thou shalt do unto me unto the land wherein thou has sojourned.

  532. And Abraham said, I I will swear.

  533. And Abraham reproved Abimelech because of a well of water,

  534. which Abimelech servants had violently taken away.

  535. And Abimelech said, I want not who have done this thing.

  536. Neither didst thou tell me, neither yet heard I of it but

  537. today. And Abraham took sheep and oxen

  538. and gave them to Abimelech, and both of them made a covenant.

  539. And Abraham set 7 new lambs on the flocks of the flocks by

  540. themselves. And Abimelech send to Abraham,

  541. What mean these seven new lambs, which thou has set by

  542. themselves. And he said, For these seven new

  543. lambs shalt thou take of my hand, that they may be a witness

  544. unto me, that I have digged this well.

  545. Wherefore he called that place Beersheba, because there they

  546. swore both of them. Thus they made a covenant air

  547. Beersheba, that Beersheba. Then Abimelech rose up and

  548. picoll the chief captain of his host, and they returned to the

  549. land of Philistines. And Abraham planted the Grove

  550. and Beersheba, and called there on the name of the Lord, the

  551. everlasting God. And Abraham sojourned in the

  552. Philistines land many days here by saying it came to pass and it

  553. came to pass at the time. It's almost as though back to

  554. the previous chapter if you will, in chapter #20 that

  555. wherever Abraham when he prayed for Abimelech healing and his

  556. wifes healing and all of his maidservants healing, that their

  557. womb would be opened up, if you'll recall that their wounds

  558. were healed and they were then able to bear children.

  559. And this also still seems to all be in the same setting.

  560. And it came to pass at the time. This is the same setting then

  561. when Isaac was born and given to Abraham and Sarah.

  562. And this seems to be the same setting.

  563. Amen Of that taking place of when Abraham and Sarah are in

  564. this position of Gerar and Bear Sheba.

  565. Now location here. All of this happened at the same

  566. time that Abimelech has been set back.

  567. With Abraham and Sarah in his land.

  568. And he has been observing all of this.

  569. He's been observing how God opened the wounds of his own

  570. people by the prayer of Abraham. He is observed how God has

  571. opened up Sarah's own womb after 25 years of it being shut.

  572. He, he's observed, if you will, how Abraham has handled a very

  573. delicate situation with with Ishmael and Sarah, Sarah and

  574. these things. How he's handled all of this

  575. involving his household. He's taken all this in, and so

  576. it seems during the same setting of preserving Isaac, the

  577. promise, and dismissing Ishmael and all these things that

  578. Abimelech exclaims these words here in the Scripture.

  579. He says God is with thee, and verse 22, God is with thee and

  580. all that thou do us. He's an outsider.

  581. He's not, He's not of the House of Israel.

  582. He's an outsider, yet he can see the divine favor on Abraham's

  583. life, on Abraham's choices, on Abraham's decision.

  584. And what he picks up on, probably quite greatly, is this.

  585. He sees that Abraham has some peace with God, and so he,

  586. abimelech wants some peace with Abraham because Abraham has

  587. peace with God. Amen.

  588. The Bible tells us a New Testament scripture in the book

  589. of Hebrews 12/14. As much as it lies within us, we

  590. should live. Anybody know the next word?

  591. Peaceably with all men? That's a horse pill to swallow.

  592. It's not as much as lies within us.

  593. We should live peaceably with all of our family or all the

  594. people that live in our household or all the people that

  595. we like, all the people that we're friends with, all men.

  596. The last verse tells us that Abraham's going to be sojourning

  597. in this area for many days. Folks, you want a sense of

  598. friendliness if you're going to be living among some folk for a

  599. while. I don't know when's the last

  600. time you've been forced into a house that with a bunch of

  601. people that you might not know very much.

  602. I've been there. We do it almost every time when

  603. we go to prison. A lot of them repeatedly go, but

  604. we've all shared one house. You going to have some

  605. friendliness or the Hatfield and the coy's going to break out.

  606. Amen. But Abimelech, he wants peace

  607. with Abraham because he, he, he realizes Abraham has peace with

  608. God and he wants the spillover of Abraham's peace with God.

  609. See, Abimelech has figured out what, what, what Potiphar

  610. figured out about Joseph. Now I'll make him a steward in

  611. my house and he has favor with God.

  612. And if his God cup favor gets too full, he being in my house

  613. is going to spill over on me. Hey, man, look at it.

  614. Genesis 39. This is going forward.

  615. Look worth jumping chapters of Genesis, brother Reese, mark it

  616. down the calendar. Genesis 39 verse #2 And the Lord

  617. was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man, and he was in

  618. the House of his master, the Egyptian.

  619. That's referring to Potiphar. And his master saw, look, he's

  620. picking up on this, that the Lord was with him and that the

  621. Lord made all that he did to prosper in his land.

  622. Like that's somebody I need to get to know.

  623. That's somebody I need to be friends with.

  624. Seems like what they touch turns to goat.

  625. I need them to touch some of my stuff.

  626. The Lord made all that He did to prosper in his hand.

  627. Verse 4. And Joseph found grace in his

  628. sight, in the sight of this Master, and he served him, and

  629. he made him overseer. The Master made him overseer

  630. over all his house and all that he had put into his hand.

  631. Look at verse 5. And it came to pass from the

  632. time that he had made him overseer in his house over all

  633. that he had, that the Lord blessed the Egyptians house for

  634. Joseph's sake. And the blessing the Lord was

  635. upon all that he had in the house and in the field.

  636. What is that part of it says? I want to, I want to make peace

  637. with this man because he has peace with God.

  638. I want to find favor with this man because has favor with God.

  639. And if God gets, you know, so much favor on him, he needs to

  640. put it somewhere else. I want to be close to him.

  641. And so Abimelech requesting of Abraham that he would be kind to

  642. him. They're going to make a

  643. covenant. They're striking some swearings.

  644. And I'm not talking about curse words, OK, oaths.

  645. And they're going to be kind to him and his descendants during

  646. his stay in the land, right? And that he would be kind to his

  647. land. It's not just the sense.

  648. He's also his land. And that makes sense.

  649. If Abraham's going to be staying in the land, he should treat the

  650. land good because he's going to benefit from the land that he's

  651. treating good. I said a long time ago, I

  652. preached A sermon here called Harvest and seeing talking about

  653. indigenous people and they started wrecking their land and

  654. they make this quote. I just want to share it again

  655. because it still sticks in my mind.

  656. They said that it's hard to survive if you degrade the land

  657. that gives you life. So when you go treat the land

  658. good because that same land is what's going to feed you while

  659. you're there, that same land going to help you.

  660. You could do it. It may not be quote UN quote

  661. what you really call home, but it's home for now.

  662. Let's go to the prophet will we prophet Jeremiah 29 seven.

  663. This is Jeremiah talking to all those exiles that take it away

  664. the Babylon away from home. But this is Jeremiah's

  665. admonition. He says and seek the peace of

  666. the city. Whether I've caused you to be

  667. carried away. Captives, wait a minute, breaks

  668. on. I'm being taken away from my

  669. home in Jerusalem. I'm going to be a captain

  670. Babylon. And you're saying seek the peace

  671. of that city, Babylon. Yeah.

  672. And he goes on and says pray unto the Lord.

  673. This is his admonition to them. Pray unto the Lord for it.

  674. What? I've been taken away by these

  675. low down good for nothings. They don't believe like we

  676. believe. I have all this stuff and you're

  677. telling me to pray for this and pray for them and seek the peace

  678. of this place. He says pray unto the Lord for

  679. it, for in the peace thereof ye shall have peace.

  680. He said that's where you'll be living for the next 70 years.

  681. That's where you'll be living for the next 70 years.

  682. That might not be home, but that's where you're at right

  683. now. And as you seek the peace of

  684. that place and pray for that place, the boomerang effects

  685. going to come back because that's where you're currently

  686. living. So you can bowed mouth the world

  687. all you want. Somebody hear me right now.

  688. And you and bad mouth the city of Mount Carmel, you want that

  689. might not be home right now, but that's where you're living.

  690. And you need to seek the peace of this community.

  691. And you need to pray for this community because this is where

  692. you're certainly stationed at. It's going to have enough.

  693. I'm not sitting up here charging everybody to hell.

  694. No, brothers and sisters, we need to be seeking the peace of

  695. the community in which our feet are planted, where we live, get

  696. our groceries, go to work. Mason, what would it do for an

  697. outsider like Abimelech to see some of you have peace with God

  698. here and then say, you know what?

  699. I'd like to have peace with them and know them because I like

  700. what I see that they have with something.

  701. But you'll never have that if you don't seek the peace of

  702. where you're at. Not only the Bible says, because

  703. the Bible says here, let me find it, bless it, assurance.

  704. Look at verse #22 this is what this is what it been like said

  705. to Abraham, God is with thee. You know, there's something very

  706. similar to that new test description book Acts chapter #4

  707. with Peter and John, the lame man scenario.

  708. Remember they brought before the people and Acts chapter #4 the

  709. governors and those of high rankings.

  710. And they said with these, these be ignorant man.

  711. But they said these men have been what with Jesus?

  712. That's the way it was said, Newton says.

  713. They've been with Jesus here in the Old Testament.

  714. It says an outsider recognized. Not only so it tells me that not

  715. only can people tell if you've been with Jesus, they can tell

  716. whether God is with you. He's an outsider, the outsider,

  717. he said. But I perceive that God's with

  718. you. How I've been sitting over here

  719. observing while you've been in my land.

  720. I've seen my own family healed, you prayed.

  721. I've seen your own wives open up after 25 years of bareness, and

  722. I've seen how you've handled difficult situations in your

  723. home. I perceive, honey, you don't

  724. listen. It's great.

  725. And you need to have a Bible study turn.

  726. You need somebody, a Bible study.

  727. But your Bible study's never going to be any more effective

  728. or loud than the way that you live your life.

  729. It will either support what you say from that Bible program or

  730. it will contradict. 2nd Corinthians told us we'd say

  731. this all the time. He said ye are epistles 3 things

  732. written, known and read, written, known and read by all

  733. men. Your epistles written, you're

  734. known and read by all men. How they how they read that

  735. again? How do you treat others?

  736. How do you handle stressful situations?

  737. There's even a better one. How do you handle blessings,

  738. God, not just how you handle stress.

  739. How do you handle being blessed? You're arrogant, egotistical.

  740. God. Brag about it.

  741. Well, God, I'm done going home right now, huh?

  742. Then they can pick up gods with you based upon all this type of

  743. stuff. God is with.

  744. God is with you. I've seen how you handled

  745. Ishmael and that whole Sarah situation, how you manage that

  746. conflict and that tense situation.

  747. Your life's been speaking loudly, Abraham, before you ever

  748. opened your mouth. So Abraham and the Biblic

  749. entering a covenant, he's got peace with God.

  750. I want to have peace with him, you know, but let me have a

  751. share of the deal. And so that's the reason of

  752. Scripture. We see animals come into play.

  753. Maybe they were possibly for sacrifice.

  754. And there's an exchange of gifts.

  755. And again, there's some swearing of oaths that are taking place.

  756. And after Abraham swore, after Abraham swore, he says I will

  757. swear. And Abimelech's been talking

  758. about now be kind to me and my sons and my sons, sons and sons.

  759. You know, he's getting all the generations covered.

  760. Be kind to me in the land. Then look here.

  761. Abraham reproved, Abraham reproved, he rebuked, he

  762. corrected Abimelech. All because of something that

  763. was going on with a well he had dug.

  764. Abraham brings up the whole wells situation.

  765. I dug it. There's some of y'all folks that

  766. took it violently from me, cast a little shadow on this whole,

  767. you know, loyalty agreement thing.

  768. You know, it's about ready to shake down here.

  769. But Abraham goes there nonetheless.

  770. Because they're talking about all these terms of the peace

  771. that they're going to live with, right?

  772. Abraham says. Why I need to bring this up?

  773. And in that I say this and please hear me and don't

  774. misunderstand or misconstrue me. But living peaceably with others

  775. also doesn't mean you have to be a doorman or ignore injustice.

  776. We can pursue peace and yet do as maybe what should have been

  777. done with Ishmael, address issues without writing off

  778. people. Amen.

  779. Because real, real peace, it's going to require some openness,

  780. but it's also going to require understanding.

  781. Most things when you talk about conflict, things like that rise

  782. and fall on the point of understanding, misunderstanding

  783. understand. I, whenever before I ever redid

  784. my office, I had a little little small, little square piece of

  785. paper. I, I had three words on it up

  786. there as a constant reminder for me that said, seek to

  787. understand. Seek to understand.

  788. Because people come to me with all kinds of garbage sometimes

  789. or there's garbage that I observe and rather try and

  790. interpret on this side. I say, God help me to understand

  791. because it might not be all as it seems.

  792. And other times it's just exactly as it seems.

  793. So after Abraham has cleared the air about that, the Bible says

  794. they they made a covenant. So look, here's two adults.

  795. Here are two adults that could work through an issue They're

  796. not even of the same faith. Here are two adults that could

  797. work through an issue about a well that had been violently

  798. taken. Abraham brings his seven U's as

  799. a witness of proof that I did dig the well.

  800. We're going to come to agreement that I did dig this.

  801. This is mine. They were able to come to

  802. agreement and they didn't walk away home.

  803. So if we on that go burn your own offering, you know, make a

  804. no covenant with you. No, they made a covenant.

  805. They are able to work, pass their indifference, their

  806. misunderstandings, because Abimelech says.

  807. This is the first I heard of this today.

  808. I didn't even know about this. You didn't even tell me about

  809. it. Can we just stop for a moment?

  810. How many times do we have conflicts where we're expecting

  811. the other person to read our minds?

  812. We are upset at them because they don't know what we're

  813. thinking. Paper him sitting over there.

  814. That's my will. Abimelech don't know, can't

  815. believe he's doing that. That's my will.

  816. He should know that. Not saying a word though.

  817. Sometimes we think because we have knowledge, it's public

  818. knowledge or that we know something.

  819. Everybody knows It's not the case.

  820. Again, from my experience just on this side, shortness of my

  821. life and what I've been exposed to, there's a lot of conflicts

  822. that just come down to understanding.

  823. But we're ready to shoot all six out of the barrel because they

  824. should know my mind for how I feel.

  825. Oh God, I almost feel like a therapy session here.

  826. I'm not a therapist or the son of a therapist.

  827. So they was able, though, to make a covenant.

  828. Abraham gave, gave the testament that it was his.

  829. They went away. Beersheba means well of oath or

  830. or well of sevens. It kind of applies to both

  831. aspects there with the seven ewe lambs that came about, what

  832. happened here? I'm coming to the end.

  833. I know I'm dragging the lake here.

  834. The Bible says after all this scenario, Abraham gives this

  835. name and that he also plants, the Bible says a Grove in verse

  836. #33 he plants a Grove and he called on the name of the

  837. everlasting, the everlasting God, the eternal God.

  838. He plants. What they call this Grove was a

  839. tamarisk tree, a tamarisk tree. Let me tell you a little bit

  840. about tamarisk tree. We'll close this up.

  841. A tamarisk tree is a tall shade tree.

  842. When it is grown, it has deep roots and it needs a little

  843. water to survive. They say it will survive where

  844. most other trees will wither. It grows, mom.

  845. This is how fast? About an inch per year.

  846. But they say they're almost impossible to uproot once

  847. they're established. They grow slow, but when it's

  848. over, they'll have become big. They say this is the same for

  849. the tamarisk, and it's common to some sayings that we even hear

  850. today. They say you plant a tamarisk

  851. tree for the next generation, not yourself.

  852. Abraham's going to stay at Beersheba for many days back

  853. whenever the Lord told him I'm I'm your exceeding great reward

  854. and Abraham says, but God, what are you going to even give me

  855. because I don't have a offspring.

  856. Anything you give me. I don't have anybody to give it

  857. to after me, except maybe the steward of my house.

  858. Abraham back in that day probably wouldn't be planting no

  859. tree like a tamarisk, but he's at a different juncture in the

  860. road today. Not only was he promised a son,

  861. there's a little boy he could go get and put right in his arms as

  862. he's digging the hole for that tree.

  863. It's not for himself. It's for generations to come.

  864. His son will benefit from that tree.

  865. If I didn't say like this, Abraham in many ways was leaving

  866. the legacy both through the well and through the tree.

  867. And the Bible says, look, he was proclaiming Bishop, the name of

  868. the Lord, the everlasting, the eternal God calling up in the

  869. name of the Lord. Again, name.

  870. Whenever you talk about name, you're talking about reputation,

  871. you're talking about nature. He's calling all the reputation

  872. and the attributes of the everlasting God here upon this

  873. spot. And I can't help but also think.

  874. And it's interesting, this again, nice little topical study

  875. for you as you go through the Bible and look at trees.

  876. I can't but think that maybe Abraham is heralding back all

  877. the way to the Garden of Eden, which had a garden that had many

  878. trees in it, evidently because they could eat of every tree in

  879. the garden. Except heralding back.

  880. Heralding back to the paradise, the Eden, the fellowship with

  881. God, the blessing of reproduction, all the things.

  882. Just going to plant a little tree right here.

  883. Amen. As a reminder for me and

  884. generations to come, God's plan for life and legacy.

  885. I know that's generic. Just stand with me.

  886. Anyhow, remember our heads today.

  887. I wonder if we could just start talking to the Lord.

  888. And there's just so much stuff just in chapter 21 that we've

  889. just already looked at that has so much application to our

  890. lives. How we deal with the flesh, how

  891. Abraham dealt with it in its unsubmissive state, how Haggard

  892. dealt with it in its submitted state.

  893. So many different things. The peace, the way that we live

  894. our lives, so many different things.

  895. God, I pray, O Lord, tonight, help me Jesus, God, to adopt the

  896. plans of scripture. God, for the plans of my life.

  897. Tell me God, I pray, Lord, for understanding.

  898. I pray God for understanding. God as I live from day-to-day.

  899. Lord, among others that may not be like me, Lord Jesus may not

  900. be like me at all, but Lord, will they be able to witness

  901. that God is with me? Will the baby be able to witness

  902. that God is with me? I pray, oh Lord, Holy Ghost,

  903. help me, help me. God with hands, The Lord Jesus

  904. of diligence, the Lord to handle issues and people.

  905. Lord God in two classifications, The Lord in two classifications

  906. that handle each. I pray, oh Lord, today, God, I

  907. pray Jesus today that you would help me, Lord, to support God,

  908. to support those things. The Lord that on the surface and

  909. Lord from the standpoint of now, they seem frail, they don't seem

  910. noteworthy, but God, there is destiny, Lord upon their lives,

  911. God and in their submissive state that can unlock that

  912. destiny. Help me, Lord, to be supportive,

  913. the fan, the flames, God of submitted, Lord, God, people and

  914. submitted aspects of people's lives, God that can grow into

  915. something, Lord, meaningful Lord Jesus, even in the Kingdom, help

  916. me God. Help me to have an awareness.

  917. God, I don't want to stick my head in the sand.

  918. I don't want to think Lord Jesus, that God, the way that we

  919. just handle one thing is the way that you we handle everything

  920. God as though they're all the same.

  921. But God, they all have their nuances and they all have their

  922. Lord differences and they all have Lord, their little Lord

  923. Jesus, things that are not exactly like the other.

  924. Help us Lord to take it. God taste by case.

  925. Help us, O Lord, help us, O Lord, today God help us to be

  926. wise. O Lord, help us to be wise.

  927. Give us knowledge and understanding, O Lord, and the

  928. affairs of this life, God, with people or the faith people not

  929. so part of the faith. Help us, God, to be your

  930. representatives, Lord, in the earth Ambassadors, I pray, O God

  931. in the earth, God, let them know that we have spent time with you

  932. and that you go with us. I pray, O God, let there be, let

  933. that not be disputed. Let that be known.

  934. Let that be clear. I pray, O Lord Jesus, today,

  935. touch your people in this week. Lord, as they go their separate

  936. ways. I pray God, you would empower

  937. them. Help them, Lord, to be the salt

  938. and the light Lord of the earth. Lord Jesus, in this hour, God,

  939. if we've ever we needed it, we need it today.

  940. I pray in the lovely name of Jesus Christ, let the peace over

  941. shadow us. In your name, Amen and Amen.

  942. The church say Amen, Hallelujah and Amen.

  943. God bless you tonight. Remember Haven Pentecostal in

  944. Henderson, KY, Friday and Saturday, opportunity Sunday

  945. here in the morning. Pastor Anthony and Sister Lisa

  946. Wilkes will be with us and they'll be a blessing to you.

  947. I know, Amen. God bless you.

  948. Have a great week. Amen.

  949. Let God go with you.
