  1. To trust in Jesus and to take him at his word.

  2. Amen. Trust in Him.

  3. I guess we need to. I don't know if you call it

  4. stupidity or trust, but so dog, I sing this week walking in the

  5. morning at the intersection of a Rd. shadow cast of a tree there

  6. on the intersection. That dog's laying smack dab

  7. right in the middle of it, just laying there.

  8. I walked by hardly gave me acknowledgement.

  9. I don't know if he was trusting or what, but he didn't care if

  10. there was traffic, if there was an individual or anything.

  11. So I'm just going to sit right here at this intersection.

  12. Maybe we need to have trust like the old dog.

  13. Whatever intersection you find yourself at, maybe you just need

  14. to trust that the Lord has the direction Amen that you need

  15. while there. Hallelujah, bless that dog's

  16. heart. Amen.

  17. Going to be turning to the book of Genesis.

  18. As you are turning there this evening, remember that tomorrow

  19. night is prayer here at the church.

  20. Second prayer night. I'm missing now.

  21. Someone's going to be here more times than I am on prayer night,

  22. and I'm about ready to get aggravated about it.

  23. Amen. Tomorrow night, prayer from 7 to

  24. 8 hour hour. All right.

  25. And then this coming Sunday you will have Bishop in the morning

  26. and you'll have Brother Jerry Mason in the evening at night.

  27. All right, 19th and 20th this month is National Ministry

  28. Conference in Maryville, TN. If you have not registered, you

  29. missed it, but you can still register at the door for a

  30. little fee. All right, so if you still plan

  31. on going, let me know. Genesis chapter 22.

    Genesis 22 chapter mention

  32. I'm going to read just a few verses and then allow you to be

  33. seated here tonight. You might be weak of need or

  34. feeble, and I'll let you be seated here.

  35. Just let me get a few verses in, if you will.

  36. I'm going to start with verse #1 I'll just read.

  37. I'll read. How about the first 3 verses and

  38. then I'll let you be seated. Kind.

  39. I'm just feeling kind tonight. And it came to pass after these

  40. things that God did tempt Abraham and said unto him,

  41. Abraham. And he said, Behold, here I am.

  42. And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, and thou

  43. lovest get thee into the land of Moriah, and offer him there for

  44. a burnt offering up on one of the mountains which I will tell

  45. thee of. Abraham rose up early in the

  46. morning and saddled his ass and took two of his young men with

  47. him, and Isaac his son, and cleaved the wood for the burnt

  48. offering, and rose up and went unto the place of which God had

  49. told him he meant for a little while tonight.

  50. Just all of this. We're going to get through this

  51. whole chapter tonight, all right.

  52. And so just throwing all this under the heading that God still

  53. everybody say still God still provides, God still a man

  54. provides. Hallelujah.

  55. Let's pray right now. Father, I love you.

  56. I thank you, God. This is an opportunity God,

  57. that's been afforded to us, God as Christians, as men and women

  58. of God. Lord, there's other people in

  59. other countries that wish they had this opportunity afforded to

  60. them, but they're underground. Lord Jesus in secrecy.

  61. Lord trying to meet the God we can come publicly open our doors

  62. to whomsoever we'll thank you Lord for this privilege God to

  63. being able to center our lives around your word.

  64. Lord one more time God, let us speak light to us and we'll not

  65. forget to thank you and praise you God for what you do through

  66. it. The lovely name of Jesus Christ,

  67. that I pray Hallelujah, and you may be seated tonight in Jesus

  68. name. Continuing on if you allow me

  69. with verse number before then on the third day, Abraham lifted up

  70. his eyes and saw the place afar off.

  71. And Abraham said unto his young men, And by thee here with the

  72. ass, and I and the lad will go Yonder and worship, and come

  73. again to you. And Abraham took the wood of the

  74. burnt offering and laid it upon the Isaac his son.

  75. And he took the fire in his hand and the knife, and they went,

  76. both of them together. And Isaac spake, and Abraham his

  77. father, and said, My father. And he said, Here am I, my son.

  78. And he said, Behold the fire in the wood, But where is the lamb

  79. for a burnt offering? And Abraham said, My son, God

  80. will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering.

  81. So they went, both of them together, and they came to the

  82. place which God had told him of. And Abraham built an altar

  83. there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son,

  84. and laid him on the altar upon the wood.

  85. And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay

  86. his son. And the Angel of the Lord called

  87. unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham.

  88. And he said, Here am I. And he said, Lay not thine hand

  89. upon the lad, neither do thou anything unto him.

  90. For now I know that thou fearest God, seen that thou has not

  91. withheld thy son, thine only son from me.

  92. And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked.

  93. Behold behind him a ram caught in the thicket by his horns.

  94. And Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a

  95. burnt offering in the stead of his son.

  96. And Abraham called the name of that place Jova Jireh, which it

  97. is said, as it is said to this day in the mount of the Lord, it

  98. shall be seen God still provides.

  99. And so we see this phrase in verse number one that we see

  100. over and over again, which just is a marking of time and of

  101. movement of time as things unfold.

  102. And it came to pass after these things, it's an undetermined

  103. amount of time. It could even stand for

  104. different variations of time. It could at one time stand for a

  105. few weeks, another time stand for a few years.

  106. Nonetheless, it's telling us a sequence.

  107. Events at what's happening right now takes place after some other

  108. things that have happened, such as the things we've already

  109. studied, Isaac being born, him being winged, Hagar and Ishmael

  110. being released from the House of Abraham and Sarah, Abraham and

  111. Abimelech settling a score over who's well that belonged to and

  112. entering the covenant and all of these things.

  113. And then now it came to pass after these things, that what

  114. happens in this chapter unveils and unfolds and a couple other

  115. things will happen and then there will be a shift.

  116. As it is, you remember the first part, Genesis, like one through

  117. 11 or so tracks along with some major events in Scripture, you

  118. know, creation, the Tower of Babel, the flood, all these

  119. types of things, the table of nations that tracks along

  120. concerning these events. But when we got to chapter #12

  121. it homes in on the individual Abraham that we've now been with

  122. for a long time. But we're right at the, the,

  123. the, the very, very edge of switching from, from Abraham to

  124. Isaac because now we have an Isaac, right?

  125. Isaac is now born. And so we're about ready to

  126. shift focus. As a matter of fact, once we get

  127. done talking about Isaac tonight, we won't see him again

  128. till chapter 24, and that'll be basically the Alpha and Omega

  129. for Isaac. There's not a whole lot said, a

  130. lot of information given to us concerning the sun concerning

  131. the Isaac. But nonetheless, in Scripture we

  132. know the Isaac is the embodiment of all the promises that has

  133. been given to Abraham and Sarah. Thus thus far.

  134. He is the fulfillment, the embodiment of all of those

  135. promises. And that's in part why as a

  136. reader that I believe God through the inspired scripture

  137. here tells us that after all these things that God did tempt

  138. Abraham. Because I think God is tipping

  139. us off just a little bit. He's tipping us off about what's

  140. about ready to take place, about what's about ready to happen

  141. that God did tempt or as we'll see here in a little bit prove

  142. or test Abraham. And so with that, we need to

  143. define what tempt is right, because any Bible scholars that

  144. are out here, their mind starts crossing references in Scripture

  145. that they've read over and over again every year in their Bible

  146. reading program. And they remember verses like

  147. James where the Bible says, let no man say when he is tempted, I

  148. am tempted of God for God cannot be tempted with evil neither

  149. temptathy we got a contradiction in Scripture.

  150. God tempted Abraham. James said we don't, God cannot

  151. be tempted neither tempathy in a man.

  152. So it's important to see what tempted means.

  153. In our amplified classic Bible it says it means tested and

  154. proved. It is a Hebrew verb that that's

  155. translated temp. That means to test, to try or to

  156. prove. So not in the same way that we

  157. consider temptation in James chapter #1 but a testing,

  158. approving a trying to test or prove.

  159. This word actually comes from blacksmithing from years ago

  160. from what they would call metallurgy, right?

  161. Dealing with and, and, and touching and handling and

  162. bending and forming metal. And that is this as they would

  163. do with metals, even as blacksmith do their, they fold

  164. in the metal often times they're constantly putting it in the

  165. fire back and forth. They're constantly trying to get

  166. impurities out of the metal. Amen.

  167. And so they test it several times as it's being forged.

  168. It's proven several times as it's being forged because at

  169. each stage, as it's getting closer to being a completed and

  170. a finished work, they want to make sure they're not leaving

  171. any impurities or anything in there that's going to diminish

  172. the quality of the finished product.

  173. And so there's a lot of testings that happened through the

  174. process of doing that. That's where this word tempted

  175. or tested or proving comes from. And that's interesting because

  176. Abraham really has been on a journey, almost like a piece of

  177. metal that's coming to a final act of completion.

  178. He's went through a lot of tests, a lot of proving a lot of

  179. times that he had strong faith and that he had doubt and then

  180. he had strong faith. I mean, his his waffling back

  181. and forth is like a person's heartbeat.

  182. I mean, it's just up and down. And so Abraham, though, is

  183. coming to a final product of completion.

  184. And so we have another test, another proving time for you,

  185. Abraham. And it's perhaps going to be one

  186. of the most ultimate test, a man of Abraham's journey and of

  187. Abraham's life. And so we know this is a test.

  188. God's already tipped, tipped us off.

  189. God tempted or tested Abraham, but Abraham doesn't know it's a

  190. test. And that's a big one, Brother

  191. Trout, we all know. But the one who's being tested

  192. don't know that this is a test. There's no lines coming up on

  193. the screen saying this is only a test and a weird high pitched

  194. beep saying no, this, this is another life in the day of

  195. Abraham. And again, he's been tested with

  196. various issues. He was tested with leave your

  197. father, your country, your country didn't go to a, a, a

  198. place that I will tell you, which was hundreds and hundreds

  199. and hundreds of miles away. I mean, almost 1000 miles away.

  200. He's been tested with what do you do during times of famine?

  201. Happen to trust he's been tested with will you separate from your

  202. your, your family lot? Will you choose different planes

  203. in different areas as your home? Been tested with that?

  204. He's been tested that whenever he went and fought for getting

  205. locked back, would he take spoils from the king of Sodom or

  206. would he just leave it be and say God is my exceeding great

  207. reward? He's being tested.

  208. He's been tested and waiting. He's been tested in his

  209. obedience over and over again. And that's just hitting the tops

  210. of the trees that we have in scripture of Abraham being

  211. tested. But now as he's reaching the

  212. apex of his purpose in life, the apex of his mission in life,

  213. really, Isaac, Amen. He's coming to a place where

  214. he's going to be tested again and God wants to prove Abraham

  215. motives in this grand finale. He wants to prove the motives of

  216. Abraham and it's a little bit really about priority because

  217. God knows that Abraham loves Isaac even said whenever he

  218. started defining what son he wanted, he said thy son, well, I

  219. got you know, you should not know thy only son named him

  220. specifically Isaac, whom thou lovest.

  221. God knew that he loved Isaac, but he had this test, this

  222. ultimate test about whether he loved Abraham, loved the matters

  223. of heaven more than him himself and more than his earthly love.

  224. He will needed to know whether Abraham was going to make it

  225. more about him or he's going to make it about God because in

  226. essence, let's think for a moment.

  227. We see that Isaac is going to be sacrificed, but in the sacrifice

  228. of Isaac is really the sacrifice of Abraham's will.

  229. He's the one that he loves. For that matter, I've already

  230. told one to go on his way. This is the only one that's here

  231. left. Amen.

  232. And so with that request of the Lord, will you do this?

  233. You got to start then channeling all the years before this of

  234. frustration, of reiterated promise after promise after

  235. promise that God's told him, the constant waiting.

  236. I know what you say God, but where's it at?

  237. And to have that after all these years, all the ups and downs,

  238. all the self doubt, all the wondering if it would or if it

  239. wouldn't be, here it is. And now you're going to request

  240. that I give that back. Now the very vein through which

  241. everything that you say is going to happen for my life should be

  242. accomplished through, you're saying give it back to me.

  243. And it's not just me giving back, Isaac.

  244. I'm giving back then the great nation.

  245. I'm not just giving back to Isaac.

  246. I'm giving back the land my descendants are supposed to

  247. have. I'm not just you understand it

  248. it it's not just a moment. It's everything of all those

  249. years prior to that moment that is resting on Isaac, he said in

  250. Isaac shall thy seed be called you're.

  251. You're asking me to give all of that back.

  252. I know it looks like just a lone son, but all of that is hinged

  253. upon Isaac. So he he he's dealing with this

  254. moment right here and just again, God, so that there isn't

  255. any confusion. He's very exact.

  256. Thy son, Isaac, whom thou love. I want you to offer.

  257. Yes, that one that Sarah from the very beginning waited for 25

  258. years. Yeah, that's the one that I

  259. want. And I know, Abraham, that right

  260. now, positionally, as far as who's close to you, that that's

  261. the only one close to you. That's the only one that you

  262. have ready at hand because you already, you already, you

  263. released Ishmael and you already released Haggard.

  264. And so I understand Abraham. I understand that you you

  265. released Ishmael and you grieved over that.

  266. You were sorry full over that. And that was just that, the son

  267. of your handmade. But I'm wondering how much

  268. harder this must have been for Abraham to sacrifice.

  269. Not send away, but sacrifice this son Isaac, who isn't the

  270. son of his handmaid, but the son of his wife.

  271. That's what I'm requesting. Abraham.

  272. I want you to give him back. Note the scripture though.

  273. He says I want you to offer him verse 2 there in the land of

  274. Moriah at a mountain that I'll specify.

  275. So I want you to offer him there for a burnt offering, folks.

  276. I mean, this has turned from from releasing the sun to

  277. becoming gruesome because as burnt offerings go and will

  278. become that we see the prescriptions for in the book of

  279. Leviticus, a burnt offering was completely 100% surrendered to

  280. the altar of fire for consumption by the fire on the

  281. altar. There isn't anything kept back.

  282. No, there's no keeping. It's not like God and Abraham's

  283. going half east. No, it's a burnt offering.

  284. It is a complete surrender, putting all of Isaac up on that

  285. offering for a burnt offering. Not only that, there is going to

  286. be a death, there is going to be bloodshed.

  287. And he's like, is this what this has come to in this moment?

  288. How in the world, God, are you asking this of me?

  289. Because I released Ishmael, but you're telling me I'm going to

  290. have to slay. There's going to be some

  291. cutting. There's going to be some taking

  292. of life from this because this is a burnt offering unto you.

  293. You want all of Isaac. You want all that I love and you

  294. want me to surrender it to you on an.

  295. So if you thought he had some difficulty in lingering and

  296. letting Ishmael go. Sarah's idea, but God appointed.

  297. What do you think he's experiencing concerning Isaac.

  298. Note the language here and you'd have to go back a few few

  299. lessons to Genesis 12. But notice the language here.

  300. It's very, very similar to whenever Abraham got his initial

  301. call from God in Genesis 12, whenever he left ER of the

  302. Chaldees and and Haran at the urging of God in Genesis 12 and

  303. verse 10. The Lord at that point told him

  304. to get thee out unto a land. I will shew thee.

  305. And now he's telling him in verse number, verse #2 He's

  306. telling him to offer him meaning, Isaac, offer him up on

  307. one of the mountains, which I will tell thee of.

  308. I mean, couldn't we just be playing God?

  309. Well, what's the whole thing of this?

  310. You know, I will tell you. I will show you stuff.

  311. Trust, trust. And yet both of these episodes

  312. of leaving the land and going where he knows, not taking the

  313. son and sacrificing up on the mountain, he's yet to be

  314. revealed. Both of these relate to a view

  315. of Abraham, where he came from. False gods, I want to remind

  316. you. False gods, right?

  317. Pagan gods. Little G Little O Little D

  318. Little S that were worshipped. If you'll remember Abraham's

  319. family, Abraham's family had worship.

  320. The Bible talks about Tira worshipping strange gods.

  321. I believe it's in the book of Joshua.

  322. But nonetheless here they were worshippers of false gods.

  323. That's what God pulled Abraham out of to call and make it to

  324. himself. A people set apart and different

  325. from those of that day. We'll back several several

  326. lessons, like part 25 if you really need to know, from Babel

  327. to Blessing. Amen.

  328. We talked and talked about how Abram was urged to leave ER of

  329. of Chow these and Haram. And I'm just going to hit this

  330. real quickly. Just kinds of review.

  331. You remember the whole tower of Babel, they said was kind of

  332. like a cigarette, kind of like a pyramid.

  333. Remember that had the steps that's called a cigarette.

  334. Those were often Pagan temples. And at the very top was a room

  335. that was reserved for a false deity.

  336. And so ER and Haram both had cigarettes and they both served

  337. the moon gods. And so whenever God called him

  338. away from the places of Ur and Haran in that day, they believed

  339. that false gods were gods over regions, localities, places.

  340. And so whenever God was saying, I want you to leave your

  341. country, your kindred, your people leaving the place that in

  342. essence was leaving their God, it was something that he asked

  343. of Abraham and his family. But now God is even asking

  344. something else of him. He is asking him to sacrifice

  345. Isaac on a mountain that he will specify in the land of Moriah.

  346. Now here's something interesting.

  347. We know according to biblical record, you'll read it if you

  348. read your Bible, that among the Canaanites there were times that

  349. people offered up their children, sometimes even their

  350. babies, and to a false God called Molech, they would make

  351. them pass through the fire. It was a God that they would be

  352. able, a fire inside of its arms would become burning hot with

  353. heat and they would lay their child upon it and it would

  354. basically be incinerated or burn up.

  355. They were doing that for their God.

  356. They even believed many times that their gods expected that

  357. they're gods expected offering those types of things.

  358. Amen in scripture. Amen.

  359. So parents would cause their children to walk through the

  360. fire or pass through the fire because they're worshipping

  361. these false gods. And although it was less common,

  362. some of Mesopotamia, which was where, uh, of child deeds was

  363. located, There's some old Mesopotamian texts that indicate

  364. that children were occasionally offered in desperate rituals.

  365. Even there that there were children, sometimes even infants

  366. that would be sacrifice in in modes of extreme circumstances

  367. in order to appease their deities or avert some type of

  368. disaster in that land. That means where Abraham lived,

  369. where his father and them had served false gods.

  370. So here's the fact. Other people of that time and

  371. generation were willing to sacrifice their children to

  372. false gods. Dennis Prager even said this.

  373. He said in the ancient world, child sacrifice was universally

  374. considered acceptable and even admirable.

  375. So when God asks for Isaac, this isn't foreign to Abraham.

  376. This practice not foreign to Abraham.

  377. Amen. In that world that Abraham had

  378. lived, God, sometimes have they seen it, demanded the children

  379. as proof of their devotion to those gods.

  380. So here's God, I've asked you to leave your country, and by

  381. virtue of leaving your country, leaving your God, he says.

  382. I'm testing you right now to see if you have the same passion for

  383. me as all these others that serve other gods, have passion

  384. and devotion for their God. That brings a whole lot of stuff

  385. in my mind. I'll only talk about a little

  386. bit of it, but the Bible says in Romans 6 and verse 19, I'm

  387. reading this from the ESV, Paul says it to the Church of Rome.

  388. He says I'm speaking in human terms because of your natural

  389. limitations. Watch this now, he says.

  390. For just as you once, everybody say, once presented your members

  391. as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, leading to more

  392. lawlessness, he says, so everybody say now, now present

  393. your members as slaves to righteousness leading to

  394. sanctification. You know what Paul was saying?

  395. Will you do for me and be as passionate toward me and as be

  396. as rendering of your members toward me as you did your former

  397. life? He says.

  398. As adamant and as passionate, You were worldly.

  399. Will you be as adamant and as passionately godly?

  400. In other words, will you treat me like the lifestyle that you

  401. used to live? Will you be just as engaged?

  402. You know what he's looking at motive.

  403. I actually leave your land, which is leaving your God.

  404. But I'm asking you, will you surrender to me what you were

  405. willing to surrender to that or are you going to keep some back?

  406. Is there certain areas you're going to say no, that's off

  407. bounds. That's my little private

  408. protected thing. Will you let it all go?

  409. Because if we're not willing to let it all go for him, but we

  410. did for this, it's still proving to us really who our God is.

  411. Amen. So will you.

  412. I mean, Abraham's building an altar.

  413. He's going to build an altar, right?

  414. This what's going to and Abraham's not an office at

  415. building altars. We we've seen that enough even

  416. since his growth pattern for maturity for the Lord, he's been

  417. building altars, but on this altar is going to be a little

  418. different. He's putting, he's putting Isaac

  419. on this altar, something that he loves.

  420. There's a whole lot of preaching the word folks.

  421. He's taking something that he loves, something that's very

  422. unique, right? Because there's just one of

  423. them. And he says I'll put that on the

  424. altar. Let me ask us tonight, are we

  425. willing to put some of the things that we love and lay them

  426. on, build the altar and lay it on the altar?

  427. I'm not even borrowing someone else's altar to put this on.

  428. I'm putting in the blood, sweat and tears to build the altar, to

  429. lay this thing I love on the altar.

  430. And yet in the moment the Bible says, and we'll get there.

  431. I'm going to be a little bit around about in this, these

  432. first 14 verses right now. And the Bible says, though

  433. whenever Abraham is in that moment, he's, he has the wood

  434. made, the fire is there, and he lays the sun on there, and he

  435. has that knife in his hand that finally the Angel of the Lord

  436. cried out to him, Abraham, Abraham.

  437. And he's like here in my eye. And that the Angel stopped him

  438. from harming Isaac. And look what the Bible says

  439. there in verse #12 it says for now.

  440. For now I know that word no, doesn't mean like just

  441. knowledge. It's a word that that if you

  442. look at it, actually means it has been demonstrated to him.

  443. God's like. Now I know because it's been

  444. demonstrated. It's been acted out.

  445. For now I know that thou fearest Amen, which isn't talking about

  446. trembling. It's talking about reverence.

  447. It's talking about respect. Now I know that you reverence

  448. and respect God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy Son, whom

  449. thou lovest, which is the only one upon whom all these other

  450. things are predicated and hinged.

  451. The great nation and the land, it's all really on the altar, as

  452. Isaac is laying on the altar, he says.

  453. But for now, I know because you didn't withhold from me what or

  454. who you loved. I wonder if he knows I have a

  455. reverence and respect for him. I wonder if he really knows.

  456. Can he know based upon the demonstration of what I'm laying

  457. on my altar? He says if I'm putting terms

  458. like this, Abraham, you've presented to me like others has

  459. offered to their gods, you're not willing to give me less than

  460. what men have given to them. Now I know we need a now I know

  461. moment with God. Now I know you're not playing

  462. games. Now I know you're not just in

  463. this thing for the blessing. Now I know that you'll be with

  464. me as long as I scratch you, right?

  465. But if I get sandpaper with you, you're going to turn on me.

  466. Now I know, now I know. And God asked Abraham, look at

  467. this year. God asked him to surrender Isaac

  468. at a mountain in the land of Moriah.

  469. That's what Jesus 22 says. We don't have time to look at

  470. this deeply, but just for consideration.

  471. The Mount of Moriah, even in the land of Moriah, is the same

  472. location that in the future will become the site for the temple

  473. that Solomon would build. The Bible says in Second

  474. Chronicles chapter #3 and verse one.

  475. Then Solomon begin to build the House of the Lord at Jerusalem

  476. in Mount Moriah, where the Lord appeared unto David his father,

  477. in the place that David had prepared in the threshing floor

  478. of Ornan the Jebusite. There's a lot of history with

  479. Mount Moriah and that land. It's not just where Abraham

  480. offers Isaac. It's where David pauses whenever

  481. there's the sword that's drawn toward Jerusalem.

  482. And David's like Ornan. I would like to have your oxen.

  483. I'd like to have the, the, the, the, the, the yoke that's upon

  484. them. I want to buy them because I'm

  485. going to make a sacrifice right here.

  486. I'm going to build an altar. I'm going to make a sacrifice.

  487. And he's like, oh, you can have, He says, no, I don't want to

  488. give to God something that doesn't cost me something.

  489. And he says, I'm going to buy them.

  490. And he built an altar. He made a sacrifice and later in

  491. the Scripture tells us that Solomon at the very place of

  492. that altar, that's where he started building the temple.

  493. So there's a lot of history. Isn't it amazing and this is the

  494. way my mind works tonight that the future side of the temples

  495. were Abraham willingly offered Isaac as a sacrifice to God.

  496. And yet sister Sheila in that I see a truth for every generation

  497. that the future of the church, however I say future, the future

  498. of the church depends on our surrendering our children to God

  499. with abandoned. That's where the church will be

  500. built and go on because if you don't surrender your kids, you

  501. don't have a generation for a future church.

  502. It's good as brother Fred is around here.

  503. He's he's mowed for years. He'll do anything.

  504. I asked him if I called him he would anytime he would do it.

  505. But he's going to push up tulips on these days.

  506. And I'm not trying to be morbid, but he's going to push up tulips

  507. one of these days. And if there's no children, if

  508. there's no younger generation, if there's whenever Bishop and

  509. them go, if there's not a younger generation, if we don't

  510. teach our kids, if we don't instruct them, if we don't show

  511. them the necessity and all these things, there won't be a future

  512. church. Yeah, overall there will be.

  513. I think God's going to have a remedy.

  514. He always has. But I'm talking about there will

  515. never be a future church if we don't learn to surrender our

  516. children today. It's on that that a future

  517. church exists. So we go back to the previous

  518. chapter. I know, oh, he's going back.

  519. We ain't going to get done. He thinks he's going.

  520. But in verse 14, we had Abraham rose early in the morning to

  521. release Ishmael. Now we have Abraham rising early

  522. in the morning verse #3 to start his journey for the sacrifice of

  523. Isaac. Again, is, is this prompt

  524. obedience for Abraham? I don't know.

  525. Is he wanting to go undetected? So we understand that God spoke

  526. this to Abraham. We, we don't have record that he

  527. ever shared it with his wife. Matter of fact, there were other

  528. times that God promised thing to Abraham.

  529. He didn't have a conversation with his wife about it.

  530. He, she had to find out from God.

  531. So I don't know if this this is prompt obedience or if he's

  532. trying to go undetected. All right, there's a reason why

  533. even Jewish tradition and Jewish old, old commentaries, they even

  534. believe that the death that happens in the next chapter,

  535. chapter 23, which is the death of Sarah, is because she come to

  536. learn of the near death that almost happened for her son

  537. Isaac, Amen. So I don't know.

  538. But nevertheless, he got up early, he leaves.

  539. Look at this now he leaves his location before journeying

  540. prepared for sacrifice. It's amazing to me.

  541. The Bible says he clave wood or he cut wood before he went.

  542. He didn't wait till he got there then cut the wood, which he

  543. could have because that area had plenty of of wood in the area to

  544. do so. But he cut it before he went.

  545. He cut the wood, he claved the wood before he went.

  546. In other words, Abraham's not going to arrive at the scene, at

  547. the place and then begin to excuse himself because he has no

  548. wood for sacrifice. He's thinking about sacrifice

  549. before he ever left the house. He's planning and preparing for

  550. sacrifice before he ever gets at the appointed spot.

  551. He's can I tell you today that we prepare for sacrifice before

  552. we ever reach the place of sacrifice, just to see that I

  553. don't get here and say, OK, I'm going to worship, I'm going to

  554. sacrifice. No, no, no.

  555. As I'm getting ready and then on a Wednesday, even whenever I

  556. wake up in the morning, I'm already thinking about sacrifice

  557. on Wednesday night. Because whenever I come with

  558. wood already prepared, I don't have to waste time cutting wood.

  559. I'm all ready to lay wood in order.

  560. Some people got to get here early enough.

  561. They got to pray through all their dilemma in order to have

  562. church. Well, honey, if you just had the

  563. daily prayer time at home, you wouldn't have to do that when

  564. you got to church. Got to prepare after.

  565. We know you prepare before you ever get here.

  566. He's bringing along the wood. He's even bringing along the

  567. sacrifice from the place of origin, from where he leaves.

  568. He's prepared for this and that, folks, is something that's

  569. rooted all throughout Old Testament.

  570. Old Testament is built upon the sacrificial system.

  571. You see it, it's bloody. There's animals being that

  572. that's being killed and being slain and being offered for sin

  573. offerings, trespass offerings, peace offerings, all these

  574. different types of offerings. Amen.

  575. That's taking place in Scripture and Leviticus is very good about

  576. it. It's prescribing what type of

  577. animal, how old it should be, what else should be brought with

  578. it for this particular offering. If you want to sin, offering it

  579. takes a certain animal at a certain age and certain things

  580. accompany it. You know what that meant?

  581. That meant nobody went to the Tabernacle scratching their

  582. head. Well, I wonder why I'm going to

  583. give God No, because it required a certain animal, a certain age,

  584. certain things with it for certain sacrifices.

  585. And so if you wanted a sin offering, you had to be

  586. premeditating about that before you ever got there to have the

  587. right sacrifice at the right age with the right accompanying

  588. things to offer to God. You know what that was?

  589. That was a safeguard for God's people not to be mindless in

  590. their worship, but they would engage their not mindless

  591. worship, but mindful worship. What is that that's preparing

  592. before you leave the house? You, you have premeditated

  593. murder when somebody needs to have some premeditated worship,

  594. premeditated sacrifice. Listen, you don't show up

  595. meetings where you know that they're going to take up an

  596. offering and open your wallet and say, well, look at there, I

  597. don't have no money. There's nothing premeditated

  598. about that. They've been advertising it for

  599. three months that they going to take up an offering, special

  600. offering for XYZ. You know what you do, you make

  601. sure you're ready. Then whenever you go, you're

  602. going to be able to give. If not, maybe you do that

  603. because you don't want to give. Well, they're going to hope that

  604. they keep me in Idaho somebody. Amen.

  605. So he's mindful of this first instance of worship in Scripture

  606. right here, right? Our dear Pastor Wilkes told us

  607. about the law first mentioned. It's true for Scripture.

  608. First time a word is mentioned usually gives its purest

  609. definition, or at least its definition origin.

  610. It might get broader, a little deeper, but that is the core of

  611. what it means. And so whenever Abraham talks to

  612. the two lads that are with him and he's going to go to this

  613. Yonder mountain, that's afar off, says me.

  614. And the lads going to Yonder mountain to worship, Abraham

  615. knew what was going to take place on that mountain

  616. Sacrifice. And he called it worship because

  617. at the heart of worship is sacrifice.

  618. So that's where we're going. So three day journey, three day

  619. journey from the time he left to get into the mountainous region

  620. or area. Folks, do you understand the

  621. mind games that could happen in three days?

  622. Toton Wood, having your son there, knowing he's soon to be

  623. no more? Do you understand the

  624. contemplations, the reconsiderations that can happen

  625. in three days? And here he is journeying with

  626. all of that. And yet the Bible tells us that

  627. Abraham stayed committed to the request.

  628. And there even seems to be a sense of faith.

  629. Everybody say faith at the final curing for this, this metalwork

  630. Abraham, this is the proving. This is like a final, final work

  631. here. Abraham has a sense of faith and

  632. he says to those two that stay servants that stay, I am the

  633. lad, go Yonder and worship and come again to you.

  634. Who's going to come again? The young lad and I, that's

  635. faith. Hebrews tells us about his faith

  636. in Hebrews 11 and verse 17. The Bible says by faith Abraham,

  637. when he was tried, offered up Isaac, and he that had received

  638. the promises offered up his only begotten Son, of whom it was

  639. said, that in Isaac shall thy seed be called look. 19

  640. accounting that God was able to raise him.

  641. Who him? Isaac.

  642. To raise Isaac up even from the dead from whence also received

  643. him and a like figure. What do you say?

  644. Abraham had so much faith. He believed that even if Ioffer

  645. him up as a sacrifice, God can resurrect him.

  646. Now we're sitting here saying, Oh yeah, right.

  647. Yeah, no, Abraham, you're saying that with having read the Bible

  648. and seen countless read resurrections and Christ

  649. resurrected himself. But I'm talking about a man.

  650. To this point, we have no recorded mention of a

  651. resurrection in Scripture yet. And he's saying without

  652. precedent, God raise him up. Now that's some heavy faith.

  653. It's like it'd be like the day seeing something happened that

  654. you didn't even know God could do, you know, or there was no

  655. precedent of him doing before. Well, I think God will just do

  656. this. I'm just saying this is the

  657. faith that we're seeing Abraham, and so his faith is at its peak.

  658. Has it always been like that? No, we've seen Abraham the

  659. doubter, but he's there right now.

  660. He believed dog would resurrect Isaac even if he sacrificed

  661. Isaac. It's amazing.

  662. It's amazing for a man who had struggles.

  663. I mean, he's having a good day. Praise God, he's having a good

  664. day. If he's having one of his bad

  665. days, he might not have made a three day journey.

  666. But in this chapter, and we see a lot of these, if you're

  667. getting worried because I'm not to verse 14 yet, it's OK because

  668. verses 15 through 24, there won't be a whole lot to mention

  669. there. In case anybody's getting

  670. nervous. Sister Maya, she's biting her

  671. fingernails and stuff. No, I'm joking.

  672. She isn't. I don't think she is.

  673. There's a lot of typologies here in the Scripture, right?

  674. A lot of typologies of Christ, a lot of foreshadowing that's

  675. taking place here in Scripture. And I'm not going to say all of

  676. them, but there are several of them, right?

  677. For one, Isaac is labeled as the only son of his father that's

  678. destined to be sacrifice. That sounds like another only

  679. son that the New Testament talks about destined to be a sacrifice

  680. upon the tree. And for a portion of the way.

  681. The Bible tells us there is a one position whenever they get

  682. to the base of that region of of of the land of Moriah and the

  683. mountains that the Bible particularly tells us that

  684. Abraham took the wood and he placed it upon his son Isaac and

  685. Isaac carried the wood. We know that there was a part of

  686. the journey that Christ had wood on his shoulders to that he

  687. carried to the place, or at least with the aid of another,

  688. carried to the place of sacrifice.

  689. And in all of this we got to pause.

  690. You've all had Doctor Lane come through here at one time.

  691. You probably don't remember it when we talked about the binding

  692. or the, the acada of, of, of Isaac, which is the binding.

  693. Isaac in Scripture here is old enough to carry wood.

  694. We know that for a fact. Josephus, who writes the

  695. Antiquities of the Jews, says that in this moment now Isaac

  696. was 25 years old at the time of the binding.

  697. Some Jewish rabbinical commentaries, Bareishis Raba,

  698. says that Isaac was 37 years old at the binding.

  699. They take the fact, Sarah being 90 whenever she had him in 127

  700. when she died. They believe him that her death

  701. was prompted by the near death of her son.

  702. So if anywhere even between 25 and 37 years old, Isaac being

  703. Isaac with his dad being hundreds of years old could have

  704. rejected if he wanted to reject. This ain't man putting a

  705. helpless boy on an altar. This is a man allowing another

  706. man. Operative word is allowing

  707. allowing another man to place him up on this altar, which

  708. mirrors another New Testament story.

  709. Christ said they didn't take my life.

  710. I gave my life. I could have got off the cross

  711. if I wanted to. Foreshadowings.

  712. Typology's here in the Scripture.

  713. Oh, it sounds like something else.

  714. So much is recorded though, in the Bible, and I've already

  715. alluded to this, but there's a lot recorded about Abraham and

  716. there's a lot recorded about Jacob and there's a whole, whole

  717. lot recorded about Joseph in the last several chapters of the,

  718. of, of the book of Genesis that we'll get to one of these years.

  719. But Isaac just gets a meager little mention here in the

  720. Scripture, little mention, and then like passed over.

  721. And that's all right. Not a whole lot of notice had it

  722. not been for his willingness to be sacrificed.

  723. It's like the gleaming moment of his life.

  724. Let me tell you, if you're known for anything, let it be known

  725. for your sacrifice. Not a whole lot written about

  726. him, but the thing that was written about him and noted his

  727. sacrifice. But everything doesn't.

  728. Everything. Every glimpses of Calvary, all

  729. those foreshadowings, all of those typologies, they don't

  730. just stay with Isaac. And the Bible does this.

  731. It switches to Isaac to something else, switches from

  732. Isaac, begins to carry over to the ram that's caught in the

  733. thicket. Right, Because Isaac asked his

  734. dad. He's noting the fire.

  735. He's not in the wood. Of course it's on my shoulders.

  736. Dad, where is the lamb? We are everything we need, but

  737. we don't have a lamb. And the feigned reply of Abraham

  738. to his son was God will provide himself the lamb.

  739. I mean Abraham's, I mean Isaac's had a place.

  740. You know, Dad, how in the world, how are we going to, how are we

  741. going to accomplish this without a lamb?

  742. But with certainty, his Father says God will provide him.

  743. And no doubt that foreshadows a ram being found in a thicket in

  744. verse 13. But even greater than that, it

  745. foreshadows what John said. Behold, the Lamb of God, which

  746. taketh away the sins of the world.

  747. And every generation since Isaac Ford, I believe, have wrestled

  748. with the same question. How in the world is this thing

  749. going to be pulled off? And before Calvary, it's always

  750. been God will provide. And ever since Calvary, it's

  751. been God has provided, Amen. God has provided a lamb, a ram

  752. caught, the Bible says in verse 13, in the thicket by his horns.

  753. A thicket is a dense growth. It's a dense growth of bushes or

  754. shrubs or small trees with intertwined branches.

  755. But in the ancient Near East, it often meant a patch of thorny

  756. brush. Thorny brush?

  757. So a ram entangled in thorns by its horns.

  758. Bible tells us in New Testament Scripture that the soldiers

  759. planted together a crown of an emblem of sin, right?

  760. All the way back to Genesis 3, when the ground is cursed, a

  761. curse as a result from sin, thorns and thistles will grow.

  762. And yet now we have this crown, if you will, that's placed upon

  763. the head of the Lord Jesus Christ.

  764. It was placed upon His head according to Matthew 27, right?

  765. A ram caught in the thicket, Jesus with the entanglement of

  766. thorns up on his head. And the Bible says in verse #13

  767. Abraham went and took the ram and offered him up for a burnt

  768. offering in the stead. Everybody say in the stead, in

  769. the stead, or as they substitute for his son.

  770. The New Testament scripture says it over and over and says it

  771. many different ways. But just pull a couple of

  772. phrases from Romans chapter #6 The Bible says that God died for

  773. the ungodly. It says God died for us right

  774. pre adventure someone even dared to die, but God commended his

  775. love toward us in that while we were yet sinners, he died for

  776. us. What in our stead he was our

  777. substitute. We see that all the way back in

  778. this moment. So this very place then Abraham

  779. calls Jehovah Jireh or the Lord our provider in the Hebrew, it's

  780. year a literally means see to it concerning the sacrifice.

  781. They were basically saying the Lord will see to it.

  782. The Lord will see to it. So the place where David made a

  783. sacrifice of oxen and with the wood of of of the yoke had that

  784. costly, costly offering he gave to the Lord because he had

  785. counted the people. It's also the place then where

  786. the temple would stand someday and what's going to take place

  787. at that temple. Myriad of sacrifices would be

  788. brought to this place, Abraham says, in this mount, in this

  789. mount, the Mount of the Lord, it shall be seen, or in the Mount

  790. of the Lord it shall be provided forever.

  791. Now recorded in Israel's history, when the people would

  792. approach that temple there in Mount Moriah with sacrifices,

  793. they would recall this day of Genesis 22 that God would

  794. provide for them. And all the sacrifices to the

  795. Old Testament is based upon that premise that He will provide, He

  796. will see to it, He will give the sacrifice to end all sacrifices.

  797. Genesis 22, verse 15, We're doing all right.

    Genesis 22:15

  798. Give me 5 minutes at a time. Verse #15 And the Bible says in

  799. the Angel, the Lord called unto Abraham, Abraham out of heaven

  800. the second time, and said by myself, I have sworn, save the

  801. Lord for because thou has done this thing, what thing?

  802. The sacrifice. And that's not withheld by son,

  803. by the only son. That in multiplying this should

  804. sound very familiar. We've regurgitated this over and

  805. over and over and over and over. Amen.

  806. That in blessing I will bless thee.

  807. In multiplying I will multiply by seed, as the stars of the

  808. heaven, as the sand which is upon the seashore, and by seed

  809. shall possess the gate of his enemies.

  810. Let's just note here, just for a quick minute, that blessing

  811. seems to be tied to obedience here.

  812. Or at least obedience brings a confirmation to what has already

  813. been spoken over Abraham's life, right?

  814. And we hear about promised descendants, stars of the sky,

  815. sands along the seashore, but also the land is entangled in

  816. here too, because he says he shall possess the gate of his

  817. enemies and gates denoted cities that denoted, if you will,

  818. property. And in thy seat you all the

  819. nations of the earth be blessed, because thou hast obeyed my

  820. voice. So Abraham returned unto his

  821. young men just like he said he would.

  822. And they rose up and went together to bear Sheba and

  823. Abraham dwell at bear Sheba. You know a principle that I see

  824. happening right here in Scripture.

  825. He says in multiply, and I'll multiply thee and blessing I

  826. will bless thee The descendant stars, the sky.

  827. All this I see a New Testament principle in from the book of

  828. Matthew. But the Lord of the master of

  829. the house said you've been faithful over a few things.

  830. I'll make you ruler over Abraham.

  831. I can entrust you with multitudes because I've

  832. witnessed how you've handled 1 in multiply.

  833. And I'll multiply you because I've seen what you've done with

  834. Isaac. You've not kept him back.

  835. You gave him to me, and so I'm figuring if you gave him to me,

  836. you'll give anything that comes through your loins to me.

  837. OK, let's go on verse #20 Brother Reese, will you read

  838. this for me? I'm just joking.

  839. It's a genealogy. And it came to pass.

  840. Yeah, and it came to pass after these things that it was told

  841. Abraham saying, behold, Milka, she has also born children to

  842. thy brethren. Nahor.

  843. This goes all the way back, all the way back to to Haran, right.

  844. His brother Nahor, he also has children, his first born Buzz,

  845. his brother Kim Mule, the father of Amram and Hassad and Hazo and

  846. Phil, Dash and Jidlath and Beth. You'll look at verse 23 and

  847. Beth, you'll begat Rebecca. Everybody say Rebecca, these

  848. eight Milka did bear to Nahor Abraham's brother and this

  849. concubine whose name was Ryuma, she bear also Tiba and Gaham and

  850. the Ash and Makkah. Interestingly, between the the

  851. the wife and the concubine, there's 12.

  852. Jacob will later have 12. Ishmael has 12.

  853. But what's most important again? And it it says, and it came to

  854. pass after these things. So we got a passage of time.

  855. We got unfolding events, however long this was.

  856. But the sharing of the descendants is really for this

  857. purpose, right? Because genealogies are always

  858. doing something for us. They're connecting this to

  859. something else. They're bridging a gap.

  860. And that's what Beth Yule, who has a daughter named Rebecca,

  861. not spelled like yours. The importance is that's teeing

  862. up the ball for just two chapters over Genesis 24, which

  863. is the longest chapter of Genesis.

  864. When the servant goes to find a wife for Isaac and that wife

  865. will be Rebecca. Spoiler alert.

  866. Look, God does. Spoiler alert.

  867. It's like little, little Easter eggs to discover Rebecca.

  868. What's interesting about that? And I'm I'm closing.

  869. I am, you can stay on me. So we see the sacrifice

  870. concerning Isaac. We don't even see Isaac show up

  871. again until Rebecca is presented to him as a wife.

  872. And if Isaac does have some typology or foreshadowing of

  873. Christ, that's interesting because two major events, the

  874. sacrifice and receiving his bride, receiving this bride, and

  875. you'll hear he kind of just kind of off into the horizon with

  876. Rebecca. They go into the scene kind of

  877. closes essentially on Isaac once he receives his bride.

  878. Folks, I'm awaiting that day when the curtain closes and he's

  879. received us as his bride. Amen.

  880. Purchased it at the altar, but receives it then later.

  881. Amen, Someone say Amen. Next week we're going to talk

  882. about death. Sarah dies, folks, I'm telling

  883. you. I mean, if you had a baby at the

  884. age she was, she probably died pretty soon too.

  885. But she going to die. She going to die, so we're going

  886. to talk about we got to got it all.

  887. She's going to die and then we're going to talk about a

  888. wedding. I mean, that's kind of how it

  889. all happens. Death, wedding, baby bedding,

  890. you know, baby dedications that kind of all go together.

  891. So that's right Hatch patch dispatch.

  892. Sometimes you do the patch. Amen.

  893. Hallelujah. So please just remember tonight,

  894. tomorrow night prayer at the church.

  895. All right, God still provides. God still provides.

  896. Father, we come to you tonight. We're so thankful again God,

  897. that we had this opportunity. I pray, O Lord, continue to open

  898. our minds of night and revelation, God, concerning your

  899. word. In them are the words of life,

  900. God, words to live by. I pray, O Lord God, for

  901. conviction, Lord Jesus, God, that turns our hearts, Lord,

  902. towards you. God, help us, Lord, to repair

  903. our ways. God, anywhere that there may be

  904. no alignment. I pray, Father God, we want to

  905. be as you would want us to be, God.

  906. We want Lord, to surrender and render our bodies and the

  907. faculties of our being, Lord to the same passion, Lord, as we

  908. did when we were serving and other things.

  909. The Lord toward you God will give the glory and the praise

  910. God for what you accomplish. The Lord, this week in Jesus

  911. name I pray and the church say Amen.

  912. Amen. God bless you tonight.

  913. Jesus name Hallelujah.
