To stand with me today we're going to try to continue on the
-
journey from a few weeks ago. I'm going to turn to Acts
-
chapter #2 here this morning. I'm breaking glasses left.
-
I think I've broken like 3 pairs of glasses in like the last
-
month. So my glasses inventory is
-
getting low, so I don't want to be left without it.
-
We'll have to get out the Super ginormous giant size Bible
-
print. I'm not ready to upgrade.
-
Acts chapter #2 verse #37 Few weeks ago we talked about things
-
you must do. We talked about repentance this
-
morning. Want to talk about one of the
-
things that you must do? You must be baptized.
-
Acts 2, verse 37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in
-
their heart, and said unto Peter, and to the rest of the
-
apostles, men and brethren, what shall we do?
-
Then Peter said unto them, Repent and be baptized everyone
-
of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of
-
sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
-
I wanted to be clear today that as I talk about baptism, I'm not
-
talking about some sign of you joining the first Apostolic
-
Church, because that's not what baptism is around here.
-
It's not about joining the first Apostolic Church, for that
-
matter. Baptism is a part of of that
-
formula or that plan that really gets you born into the church,
-
right into the church. I'm not talking about some a
-
sign that's saying, well, I've been saved.
-
And this is an indication that I've been saying, no, it's not
-
what the Bible teaches us. The Bible teaches us that it is
-
a cog in the wheel toward salvation, right, Amen.
-
And so I want to talk about that today.
-
Father, I come to you, I thank you, Lord, for your goodness.
-
I thank you, Lord Jesus, for your people not to thank you,
-
Lord, for your word that is forever settled in heaven.
-
The grass may wither and the flower may fade, but the word of
-
God will stand. I pray, O God, we're thankful
-
for that word and it is the Lord, the very Lord, origin and
-
point of origin. Lord, for what we speak about
-
today, the lovely name of Jesus Christ, I pray Amen.
-
Everybody say Amen, Amen. You may be seated in Jesus name.
-
Things you must do, you must be. You must be baptized, and I say
-
must this morning, because even in John 3, whenever Jesus had
-
His dialogue with Nicodemus there, and Nicodemus was
-
wondering what a person must do in order to enter or see heaven,
-
the Lord told him that he must be born again.
-
And he broke that down a little further in John three, that he
-
must be born of the water and the Spirit.
-
He told him. Then he followed that up again
-
with the fact ye must be born again, and part of that born
-
again experience is being baptized in Acts chapter #2 just
-
kind of so that we understand who it is that needs to be
-
baptized today in Acts 2. Peter, on the day of Pentecost,
-
had a mixed crowd of people that he was speaking to.
-
There were all kinds of people, samplings of people from
-
different nations and places that had joined together at this
-
feast called Pentecost. As it often happened, people
-
were gathering all around. As a matter of fact, the city of
-
Jerusalem would increase its population many times over
-
because of the number of people that had gathered together for
-
this particular feast. Just a little sampling of the
-
people that you can read up in Acts chapter #2 The Bible tells
-
us there were people of the Parthians that were there, the
-
Medes, the Elamites, dwellers in Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia,
-
Pontus, and Asia. Just a sampling of some of the
-
people that are there, and you can even find others in Acts
-
chapter #2 But he told them this people that are gathered, these
-
variety of people were gathered. He told them that every one of
-
them must be baptized. And so right away we understand
-
that this just wasn't for those at Jerusalem, but it was for
-
everyone that was there. There were different sects of
-
people, different, different races of people that were
-
gathered together here at Jerusalem.
-
And he told them that they must be baptized.
-
As a matter of fact, before this day of Pentecost, before Jesus
-
ever ascended, after his death, burial and resurrection, before
-
he ever ascended into the heavens, he told his 11
-
disciples, people that he had walked with and talked with and
-
taught, and those who'd seen him do several miracles.
-
He told them in Matthew 28 that they were to teach all nations
-
baptizing them. And the them refers back to who
-
the all nations baptizing all nations in the name.
-
And so we see early on in the book of Acts that the Jews were
-
baptized, and we would seem to that, but we also see, like in
-
Acts chapter #8 that the Bible tells us that the Samaritans
-
were baptized people who were considered half Jew and half
-
Gentile. We also read there that Philip
-
had a wonderful conversation with the Ethiopian eunuch, and
-
he began to preach to him. Jesus, he said, starting really
-
from the book of Isaiah. He preached Jesus to him.
-
And after it was all said and done, that Ethiopian eunuch also
-
was baptized. Here's water, he said.
-
What death hindereth me from being baptized in Acts chapter
-
#10 it's there that we read of Cornelius of the Italian band, a
-
Gentile, that he and his household also are baptized Jew,
-
Samaritan, Gentile. We're getting many, many
-
different nations and people groups that are being involved
-
in this. So Peter tells us that we should
-
repent and be baptized. Everyone of you, in the name of
-
Jesus Christ, everybody say for, for the remission of sins.
-
That word for is important. That word for is a preposition
-
that means to or into a place, time, or purpose.
-
Whenever you're baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, you're
-
baptized with a purpose and the purpose comes after the four.
-
It is for or the purpose of the remission of of sins.
-
And if that be the case this morning, if baptism is for the
-
remission, which is just a fancy word for removal, if it is for
-
the removal of sins, if that be the case, then that tells me
-
that anyone and everyone that is a Sinner needs to be baptized
-
because the only way that your sins can be removed is through
-
the act of repentance and baptism.
-
Amen. Can there be a removal of sins?
-
And we all need that. Everybody say all, We all need
-
that. The verses in Scripture tell me
-
all have sinned according to Romans 323.
-
As a matter of fact, it even states that plainly.
-
Again in Romans 5 and verse 12, all have sinned.
-
And so if sister Sheila, we all have sinned, then we all need to
-
be baptized. As a matter of fact, when we
-
read in the Gospels of Matthew and Mark and Luke and John, the
-
man Christ Jesus, God in his earthly ministry, the man Christ
-
Jesus came to John the Baptist to be baptized.
-
And one might think, man, if Jesus was baptized, surely I
-
need to be baptized. Here's the fact concerning
-
Jesus. Jesus was leading and leaving us
-
an example because the Bible tells us that Jesus knew no sin.
-
According to First Corinthians 521, He knew no sin.
-
The Bible also tells us in Hebrews 415 that Jesus was
-
without sin. The Bible tells us in first John
-
35 that in Him is no sin. Amen.
-
And so he said, well, brother McGee, all sinners need to be
-
baptized. Yes, but Jesus was doing this,
-
leaving us an example. The Bible says in first Peter 2
-
and verse #21 these words 4 even here and two were he called
-
because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example that
-
ye should follow his steps who did no sin.
-
Neither was God found in His mouth, who when he was reviled,
-
reviled not again when He suffered, He threatened not, but
-
He committed himself and to him that judges righteously, who his
-
own self bear our sins in his own body on the tree that we
-
being dead to sin should live into righteousness, by whose
-
stripes he were healed. For ye were as sheep going
-
astray, but are now returning to the shepherd and the Bishop of
-
your souls. He said this Christ Jesus, he
-
suffered. Yes, and he left us an example
-
that we should follow in his steps.
-
We could not follow in his steps of being sinless.
-
That's not what it's alluding to here.
-
We could not follow in His steps of being sinless.
-
We were all born into a world and a condition, the adamant
-
nature of sin. But the steps that we could
-
follow in was of His suffering and of His burial and of His
-
resurrection. That's the example that He left
-
for us to follow, the steps that we should walk in.
-
The Bible says even in Romans 6 and verse #4 that we are buried
-
with Him in baptism. We are following his steps, we
-
are following the example that he has left.
-
David said even the Old Testament Scripture of Psalms
-
51. He said that in in iniquity I
-
have been shaping, and my mother conceived me in sin.
-
We are sinners and we need a remission and a removal of sin
-
because Scripture tells us no sin will enter heaven.
-
I pause importantly and and specifically today because we
-
need to let that set in. If that is the case, then
-
baptism is just not some formality of joining the local
-
church. If that is the case, there's a
-
lot of leverage that's on baptism whenever baptism is is
-
in aiding and helping entrance or no entrance into the Kingdom
-
of heaven. The Bible tells us in the Book
-
of Revelation 2127. Look what the Scripture says,
-
and there shall in no wise enter into it.
-
Speaking of heaven, anything that defileth neither whatsoever
-
worketh abomination or maketh a lie, but they which are written
-
in the Lamb's book of life. Listen, ladies and gentlemen, no
-
sin shall enter in, not anything profane, not anything unclean,
-
not anything defiled. It will not enter in.
-
Well, pastor, how do I get rid of that which is profane and
-
unclean and defiled? One way is through your
-
repentance and your baptism. It removes the profane, it
-
removes the unclean, it removes the defiled.
-
You stand before God differently after baptism.
-
Amen. Now granted John, the Bible says
-
John the Baptist baptized many. His disciples also baptized
-
many. But the Bible tells us that the
-
baptism of John was a baptism unto repentance only, and they
-
could be nothing more, because at that period of time Christ
-
had not yet died or been buried or had risen from the dead.
-
Amen. So John's baptism could only be
-
a baptism unto repentance. As a matter of fact, the Bible
-
says whenever people would come to be baptized to John the
-
Baptist, they would come emitting their sinfulness, or
-
they would come, the Bible says in Matthew 36, they were
-
baptized confessing their sins. And yes, that's important, Amen.
-
Because if we confess our sins, our God is just right.
-
He'll forgive us of those sins, Amen.
-
But you still need a baptism to remove, huh?
-
You don't just need sins forgiven, you need sins removed,
-
Amen. You confess with your mouth and
-
that can bring about a, a forgiving of sin, but you need a
-
removal of sin. Amen.
-
By which baptism happens. And so they would come and they
-
would confess with their mouth. And we understand though another
-
reason why John baptized Jesus or Jesus allowed John to be
-
baptized because John the Baptist even told Jesus, he
-
said, I need to be baptized of you.
-
And the Lord says, and we'll look at the scripture in just a
-
little bit. He said suffer it as such for
-
now. He says because I need to do
-
something, I need you to baptize me.
-
John said one of the reasons why he went forth baptizing.
-
You can read of it in John chapter #1 verses 31 and 33 is
-
because in his baptizing there would come a revelation about
-
who the Messiah was to Israel. Because the Spirit of the Lord
-
had already spoke to John and said, whoever it is that this
-
dove comes down and lights upon and stays, he'll be the one that
-
not only baptizes a man with Holy Ghost, but also with fire.
-
He says, and you read it, you'll read it in John #1 John's
-
saying, I did not even know him. Let me just go there this
-
morning because I don't want anybody to miss this in John
-
chapter #1 and verse #31 And folks, I do have a lot of
-
Scripture today. And so I hope you brought your
-
Bible or you're interested in the Bible, or you think about
-
the Bible every once in awhile. But the Bible says this is just
-
as John the Baptist. He says, and I knew him not.
-
Let me skip just back to verse #29 the next day, John C of
-
Jesus coming to him. And saith, Behold the Lamb of
-
God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
-
This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is
-
preferred before me, for he was before me, and I knew him not,
-
but that he should be made manifest.
-
Look at this, that he, this Christ should be made manifest
-
to Israel. Therefore am I come baptizing
-
with water, John saying I'm baptizing with water because I
-
know what the Spirit had told me, that there's going to be
-
one, that I'm going to baptize the doves going to come upon,
-
and that's how we will know that's the one.
-
And he says, so I'm baptizing to give revelation to the sign of
-
the Christ. Look at verse 32 and John bear
-
records saying I saw the Spirit, He's recounting this.
-
I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it bowed
-
upon him, him being Christ Jesus, and I knew him not, but
-
he that sent me here, he's recalling this me the baptized
-
with water, the same setting me upon whom thou shalt see the
-
Spirit descending and remaining on him, the same as he which
-
baptized it with the Holy Ghost. John says the reason why I can
-
tell you there's one coming after me that's preferred before
-
me that's going to baptize with the Holy Ghost and fire is
-
because one day while I was baptizing, just like the Spirit
-
told me, the Spirit came like a dove and lighted upon this
-
person that had not done that to any other person.
-
And that was the sign that I knew that man was the Christ
-
that would baptize with the Holy Ghost and with fire.
-
John's all of this Jesus being baptized and John is very
-
purposeful. Yes, it is for our footsteps to
-
follow as an example, but was also for the revelation of the
-
Israelites of that day to know this man who came was the one
-
who was baptized with Holy Ghost and with fire.
-
And just as a side note, Bible tells us that the places that
-
John baptized like John 323, that there was much water.
-
Matter of fact, whatever describes even Jesus coming up
-
from being baptized in Matthew 316 and Mark 110, it describes
-
him coming up out of the water that don't happen through
-
sprinkling. Much water is not required if
-
you're being sprinkled someone say Amen.
-
So Jesus is an example to the people Amen of baptism of
-
immersion not because he needed it because they needed to see
-
him be baptized and understand that this is a necessity of
-
salvation in the mode is immersion.
-
Matthew 315 the Bible says Jesus answering unto him again to John
-
the Baptist, he said suffer to be so.
-
Now the little discussion, I need to be baptized as you.
-
Well he said, suffer to be so. Now for this it becometh us to
-
fulfill all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
-
Jesus wasn't refuting the idea that John needed to be baptized
-
of him. He says for now just suffer it
-
to be so. He said, because what needs to
-
be done right now is for it becometh us to fulfill all
-
righteousness. Other translations It becometh
-
us to do all that God requires, or it suffereth us.
-
The right thing for us to do is to do everything a good man
-
ought to do. The Old Testament phrase the
-
righteousness of God refers to God's acts of righteousness by
-
which he brings about salvation for his people in so much that
-
the word righteousness has become a synonym even through
-
the Bible for salvation. That being the case, Jesus is
-
telling John it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness, or if
-
you will, it becometh us to feel all salvation.
-
What he's saying baptism is a cog, a man in the mechanism of
-
salvation. Right being baptized was a part
-
of the means for the fulfillment of salvation.
-
The Bible says in Mark 16 and verse 16, he that believeth
-
Andy, as everybody say it baptized shall be saved, but he
-
that believeth not shall be damned.
-
Folks, we have it backwards a lot of times in our modern day
-
world. A lot of people tell us that
-
you, you, you get baptized as a public sign that you have been
-
saved. But Mark 1616 tells us that we
-
get baptized so that we might be saved.
-
Amen. Amen.
-
First Timothy 2 and 4, the Bible says who The Who that's being
-
referred to. There is God who will have all
-
men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of truth.
-
Listen, if God desires or wants all men to be saved in order to
-
fulfill the fullness of salvation or righteousness, then
-
those men must be baptized. Amen.
-
Well glory, I didn't start a timer, but God help us.
-
Baptism isn't necessarily mentioned in the name as far as
-
like baptism the Old Testament, but it is typified in the old
-
Tabernacle system. Hebrews the author of Hebrews
-
writes a lot about Tabernacle, articles of furniture and some
-
of the ceremonies there and it drawing the parallel with Old
-
Testament things that happen and brings their significance over
-
into the New Testament. The Bible talks about the Old
-
Testament being a shadow of good things to come right And so when
-
we read in Hebrews 9 and verse 10, the Bible says which and the
-
which it is referring to is the Tabernacle which stood only in
-
meats and drinks and diverse all right divers or various washings
-
and carnal ordinances imposed on them until the time of
-
Reformation. So the Tabernacle was really
-
it's a beautiful thing If we ever take time to go through
-
every article and all of the colors and the things that the
-
Tabernacle. It's a wonderful illustration of
-
the Acts 238 plan of salvation. But for our purposes today, for
-
that even things you must do, you must be baptized.
-
I want you to consider what was called the Laver that was in the
-
Tab Tabernacle. All right, the Laver is where
-
the priest would wash their hands and cleanse themselves
-
before entering into what was known as the Holy Place.
-
All right, you had the outer court, and then you had another
-
section, the Holy Place. Then you had another section
-
which was called the Holiest of Holies or the Most Holy Place.
-
Well, they would wash there in the outer court at that Laver,
-
Amen, and then enter into that holy place to minister into the
-
Lord. For that matter, the high
-
priest. The high priest would wash too,
-
and once he year he was allowed into that holies of holies where
-
the ark of the covenant was, which was considered the very
-
presence and spirit, if you will, of the Lord.
-
But you didn't get there without washing at the labor.
-
And so in Exodus 30 and verse 18, the Bible says, And thou
-
shall also make a labor of brass in his foot, also of brass to
-
wash with all. And thou shall put it between
-
the Tabernacle, the congregation and the altar, and thou shalt
-
put water there in the purpose of the labor is really summed up
-
in those three words here in this verse, so that you might
-
wash to wash with awe because that water was used for a
-
cleansing. There's been a lot of
-
discussion. Where did that water come from?
-
Where'd the water come from? And the labor throughout their
-
travelings through the wilderness, because we know
-
there were times that they were in places where water was
-
scarce. We know that according to
-
Scripture. We know that.
-
But we also know New Testament Scripture says this, that there
-
was a rock that First Corinthians 10/4 there was a
-
rock that followed them in those journey.
-
And the apostle Paul said emphatically that that rock was
-
Christ. It's that rock that Moses was to
-
speak to and water would come from.
-
It's that rock that Moses mistakenly struck twice in the
-
eyes of the people, but water still come forth from it.
-
Moses was held from the Promised Land because of the striking
-
twice of the rock in the eyes of all the people, because Christ
-
said that rock typify Christ so much that Christ was only struck
-
once. Speaking of Calvary, I don't
-
know for sure, but it's a possibility that the water that
-
was in the Laver came from the walk with the rock.
-
Hey man supplied water for cleansing from that rock which
-
was known as Christ. But in baptism there is a
-
cleansing, A cleansing from our sins.
-
Now I've said this before and I say it again and I cannot be, I
-
cannot be plain enough concerning this.
-
I know we've had times, you know, the people have have
-
desired to be baptized and and they want to wait for their
-
uncles, aunts, cousin twice removed to be there.
-
And I understand the idea of your family and wanting to
-
witness it or you wanting your family to witness, But let me
-
tell you emphatically this morning, there is no better time
-
to be baptized than right now. Uncle Joe may not make it, Susie
-
may not make it. And I understand that our
-
humanity concerning that. But according to the Scripture,
-
in the hour that you see the need of it or you're convicted
-
toward it, you need to be baptized.
-
Throughout the Scripture, people normally didn't wait.
-
People normally didn't wait. The only qualification you have
-
for baptism is your repentance. People normally didn't wait.
-
In Acts chapter 2 and verse 41, on that day of Pentecost, the
Acts 2 chapter mention
-
Bible tells us those that gladly received Peter's word, Amen,
-
they were baptized. The Bible says in Acts 8 and
-
verse 12 when they believe Philip preaching the things
-
concerning the Kingdom of heaven.
-
You know what they did? They were baptized in Acts
-
chapter #8 after the eunuch heard the word Amen, that Philip
-
was preaching unto him again. He's the one that said, see,
-
here is water. What doth hinder me from being
-
baptized In Acts 9, the Bible says that whenever Ananias went
-
to visit Saul, and said, My brother Saul, the Lord, even
-
Jesus has sent me unto thee, that thou might receive thy
-
sigh. And those scales fell off his
-
eyes. He no sooner had all of this
-
happen to him. The Bible says he arose and was
-
baptized in Acts chapter #10 Cornelius and all of his
-
household while they're sitting there hearing the word of God
-
preach, and they're filled with the baptism of the Holy Ghost
-
and begin to speak with other tongues.
-
That all happened that the Bible says in the very same setting.
-
They were baptized in Acts chapter 16, Paul and Silas, it's
Acts 16 chapter mention
-
the jailhouse rock long before Elvis ever had it.
-
Amen. As they sang praises unto God.
-
And that Philippian jailer was quaking about what it happened
-
and they began to preach and minister to him concerning
-
salvation in the same hour the Bible says, which was the
-
midnight hour. He went and washed I, I love
-
this part. He went and washed their stripes
-
that they had on their back with water and with the same water he
-
was baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ in the South.
-
So you don't need to wait till you don't need to wait till
-
Wednesday, Monday or for anything ye must.
-
It's kind of like this. When would you like to have your
-
sins removed next week? It's almost like the the old
-
Pharaoh story with the the the plague of the frogs when they
-
asked, you know, Pharaoh well, when do you want me to pray that
-
the frogs will be removed? And he said tomorrow.
-
It's like that just don't make sense.
-
You can get baptized today. Listen, you can get baptized in
-
a river, a Creek, a lake, a ditch if there's sufficient
-
water, your bathtub, a pool, a Whirlpool, running water,
-
stagnant water, dirty water, a nice baptismal that's at such
-
and such degrees, or where they got to break the ice to put you
-
under a horse through, as long as you have enough waters to
-
submerge you and the name to cover you.
-
Folks, whenever I was just a just a young, young younger man
-
and I was preaching a camp meeting out in West Virginia, we
-
had at that the one time I think was 13 or so, Amen.
-
One night and maybe another night, so that needed baptized.
-
We went out to a river. It was dark.
-
You couldn't see anything, but we had the headlights from our
-
vehicles that was shining on the river.
-
We broke up a boozing party in order to baptize 13 people in
-
the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
-
It don't matter the time of day, it don't matter the season.
-
It today is the day of salvation and now is the acceptable time.
-
What hinders us? What hinders us?
-
Archaeologists have even found, ladies and gentlemen, church
-
buildings. Of course, you know, in the
-
early years there was the the fact of the matter of like
-
church buildings was was very scarce.
-
People went house to house. They didn't have these edifices
-
except maybe a synagogue where they would have, you know, have
-
regular church. But archaeologists have found in
-
church buildings even in Asia Minor dating back to the middle
-
and 2nd century. Everybody said that's a long
-
time ago. And you know what they had in
-
them? Baptistries for baptism by
-
immersion. Baptizo, from which we get our
-
word baptized, is not to be confused with another Greek word
-
called bapto. There's a clear example that
-
shows the meaning of baptized in a text that is from the Greek.
-
I all the time use this. You've probably heard this a
-
dozen times, but a Greek poet writing writing there in his
-
language, a physician of Nick Ander who lived around 200 BC.
-
He was writing a recipe for making Pickles, and in this
-
recipe it's helpful to know what these words mean by the way that
-
he used these words. Nick Anders says that in order
-
to make a pickle, the vegetable should be dipped or bapto into
-
boiling water, but then baptized baptizo into the vinegar
-
solution. So both verbs indicate immersion
-
of the vegetable in the solution.
-
But the first, the bapto, the dipping, is just kind of like a
-
temporary thing. But the second, the act of
-
baptizing the vegetable, would do this.
-
It would produce a permanent change of the vegetable.
-
In other words, whenever you baptize the cucumber in the
-
vinegar, when it came up, it was no longer just a cucumber, it
-
was a pickle. Honey, you need, I'm not calling
-
anybody here a cucumber today, but I am saying this.
-
When you go down in the watery grave of baptism, there is a
-
permanent alteration, a permanent change.
-
I am not what I used to be, my dog.
-
Someone say glory. And we see that through
-
Scripture baptism, there's this alteration, there's an
-
accompanying of a change. Amen.
-
Acts chapter #4 and verse #12. The Bible says this is in
-
conjunction with the lame man that had been sitting at the
-
gate called beautiful, been brought there his whole life.
-
Lame from birth above 40 years old.
-
Peter and John went to the temple, right?
-
His eyes fastened upon him. He's asking for alms, and they
-
say silver and gold. Have we numb?
-
But such as we have give iron to thee.
-
And they grabbed the man by his hands and his ankle bones and
-
legs receive strength. And they begin walking and
-
leaping and even entered to the temple, which he could not have
-
done for his entire life due to his lameness.
-
And so some of the scribes and Pharisees and rulers of that
-
day, they, they see this and they kind of take everything
-
aside and they begin to ask about by what, by what power or
-
by what name has this been done? And Peter and John tell them by
-
the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, number one, notice that
-
people of that day associated power with the name.
-
They asked by what power or by what name?
-
They said by the name of the Lord Jesus.
-
And so they say then in Acts 4 and 12, neither is there
-
salvation in any other, for there is none of their name.
-
The name they're referring to is the name they've been talking
-
about in Acts 4, the name of Jesus Christ.
-
For there is none of their name under heaven given among men,
-
whereby we must, must be saved. Folks, when you get baptized,
-
you get baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
-
That's where the power is and that's the must name of
-
salvation. We will not baptize you.
-
Amen. In Father or in Son or in Holy
-
Ghost. Father has no power unless that
-
father has a name. Son has no power unless that son
-
has a name. There is no don't you need your
-
name. And the Bible tells us that his
-
name is Jesus. Jesus said I've come in my
-
Father's name. That's where the power is.
-
There's none other. It takes the name Colossians 1/3
-
and verse #17 tells us that whatsoever you do in Word or in
-
deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God
-
and the Father by Him. Some are listed as being
-
baptized in Scripture in the name of the Lord.
-
I have no problem with that because I know who the Lord is.
-
The revelation came. The revelation came to Saul in
-
Scripture who the Lord was, right?
-
Because we see his whole life before Christ persecuting the
-
early church and people that were preaching in the name of
-
Jesus Christ. Saul saw them as an imposter
-
because from a child he's been taught there's only one God.
-
So when they're talking about this Christ and him doing these
-
things that the Old Testament Isaiah said only God could do,
-
he sees Jesus as an imposter. That's just because he had not
-
yet dressed the revelation that the God that Isaiah spoke of is
-
the Jesus Christ in flesh in humanity among the Gospels.
-
That's the reason why he's on his little way to Damascus right
-
with the letters to be able to cause some more havoc of taking
-
those that are preaching and teaching in the name of Jesus
-
and imprisoning them. And as he's going, the Bible
-
says that light from heaven shines, knocks him off his
-
donkey, so to speak, Amen. And he hears a voice and the
-
Bible says in Acts 95 and he said, who art thou, Lord?
-
And the Lord said, I AB Jesus, whom thou persecute us,
-
revelation for Saul, you're telling me the Lord.
-
Because we see the Lord a lot in the Old Testament.
-
As a matter of fact, in your Bibles, you'll see it a lot in
-
capital letters. Lord, Lord, it was a
-
representation of the covenant name of God, what some would
-
call Yahweh or Jehovah. He says, you're telling me my
-
Yahweh is Christ, my Jehovah is Christ.
-
That's exactly what Jesus was telling him.
-
The Old Testament Lord is the New Testament Jesus.
-
He's not different. He's not a second.
-
He's not the third. He is the I am of the I Am,
-
which was and is and is to come. He is the beginning and He is
-
the ending. He's the ever.
-
I am Jesus, whom thou persecute us.
-
Is it hard for thee to kick against the pricks?
-
The name #622 The Bible says The Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
-
speaking to Aaron and to his sons, saying, On this wise ye
-
shall bless the children of Israel, saying unto them, the
-
Lord bless thee. This is often a benediction
-
that's used in churches across America.
-
The Lord bless thee and keep thee.
-
The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto
-
thee. The Lord lift up his countenance
-
upon thee, and give thee peace. Verse 27.
-
And they shall put my name. They should put my name upon the
-
children of Israel, and I will bless them.
-
And in the Old Testament when it's all those upper place
-
letters, your Bible probably does this, most Bibles do.
-
But when it's all uppercase letters that notes the covenant
-
name Yahweh or Jehovah if you will.
-
Here's why this is important even though Testament moving
-
forward because anywhere God placed his name or evoked called
-
his name over often even in the Old Testament we see his name is
-
put on people on places and upon things put upon the children of
-
Israel name put on the temple or put upon things someone say man
-
so matter of fact all the way back brother Reese to Genesis
-
can't get away from him. I mean, everything sprouts from
-
Genesis, Genesis 426 and to seven To him also was born a
-
son. Remember, Seth was the one that
-
was born instead in the stead of Abel after Abel was murdered.
-
And Seth to him also was born a son and he called his name Enos.
-
Then began men to call upon the name of the Lord.
-
The literal translation of that verse is then begin the name of
-
the Lord to be called upon them. That changes things up.
-
It's not, it's not just that men were crying out to the Lord
-
Lord, it's that the name of the Lord was called upon them.
-
That's what happens in your baptism.
-
That's where there's a lot of flux in the in, in Acts chapter
-
#2 in the book of Romans where the Bible says whosoever shall
-
call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
-
When the reality is literally it is whosoever shall have the name
-
of the Lord called upon them or over them.
-
It's a reference to baptism. The awesome thing though, about
-
the name being called upon people and places and things is
-
this is what that denoted Old Testament.
-
We have precedent what that denoted when the name was placed
-
upon things. It denoted ownership.
-
It denoted redemption. It denoted his presence.
-
I read in Second Samuel chapter 12.
2 Samuel 12 chapter mention
-
This is just a example of a precedent of a name being used
-
for the purpose of ownership. The Bible says in second Samuel
-
12 and verse 26 and Joab fought against Rabba of the children of
-
Ammon and took the royal city. And Joab sent messengers to
-
David who was king at this time, and said, I have fought against
-
Rabbi and have taken the city of waters.
-
Look at verse 28. Now therefore gather the rest of
-
the people still David, gather the rest of the people together
-
in the camp against the city and take it.
-
Look what he says, lest I take the city and it be called after
-
my name. You know what Job said and he
-
said, I'm here David, I want you here because if I take the city
-
and I put my name upon it, then that's me claiming ownership of
-
it. But your king, your name should
-
be upon it so that you have ownership of it.
-
In second Samuel 5 and seven, look, we see in another place,
-
David per SE taking a city. The Bible says nevertheless,
-
David took this is second Samuel 5, seven, nevertheless David
-
took the stronghold of Zion and look what the Scripture says.
-
The same is the city of David. Matter of fact, usually a lot of
-
times. See Scripture that Zions called
-
the city of David. He put his name on it.
-
And thereby claim to ownership of it.
-
Honey, his name being spoken over you in baptism, Is it just
-
for the power of removal? It's the evidence of ownership.
-
Come on, we have we have a a great member of our our prison
-
team. She has a wonderful testimony.
-
She'll be here one of these days when we get worth happening and
-
she'll give her testimony. But we all time kid her because
-
she talks about how she went down in baptism.
-
She's Stephanie, Stephanie Hughes and she came up Stephanie
-
Hughes, Jesus Christ. And so all the time to give her
-
a hard time whenever she shows up.
-
I said, look, Stephanie use Jesus Christ is with us now.
-
You know, I just give her a hard time.
-
What's she talking about? She's talking about I'm not my
-
own anymore, right? I'm not my own anymore.
-
I belong to somebody. And can I tell you whenever you
-
belong to somebody else and you're in a relationship with
-
someone else and you want to be pleasing that someone else, then
-
whatever pleases them, you'll just kind of follow suit because
-
they're in love with the one whose name is up on you.
-
Hey, man, Sister Trout, whenever you got married, you didn't
-
reject Mike Trout's last name. You took his name in that
-
marriage ceremony because you love that man.
-
You didn't mind being identified with him.
-
You my God, folks, whenever you take the name of Jesus Christ in
-
baptism and you get his name on him, I'm all right that I'm
-
characterized by whatever he is. I'm all right that his nature
-
kind of flows over into my life. I'm all right, you better
-
believe I'll take the name that removed my defilement and the
-
name that removed my uncleanliness.
-
I'll take that name. God, I didn't get us baptized
-
here today. Starting to feel a little
-
moisture. Acts 19 and 20 if you read your
-
Exodus. Rather, Exodus 19 and 20, if you
-
read those chapters you read about Israel becoming God's
-
people because he's placing his name on them, says I am the Lord
-
thy God. That's important because at that
-
point of the placement of the name, they became his.
-
The Bible says in Exodus 66. Wherefore saying to the children
-
of Israel, I am the Lord, that's the capital Lord, and I will
-
bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I
-
will read you out of their bondage, and I will look now
-
redeem. You have a stretched out arm and
-
with great judgments. Not only did the name denote
-
ownership, it denoted redemption, and it also denoted
-
presence. Look at it will Moses is
-
speaking to God in Exodus 3 and verse 13.
-
And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come into the children of
-
Israel, and shall say unto them, the God of your Father's have
-
sent me unto you, and they shall say to me, What is his name?
-
What shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I am
-
that I am. And he said, thou shalt thou say
-
unto the children of Israel, I am, have sent me unto you, all
-
of that I am, that I am, I am. It's the covenant name of God.
-
All right, it's found there that that Hebrew you'd hey Bob, hey
-
that Yahweh, hey man, I am that I am that sent me unto you.
-
Look at verse 15. And God said, moreover unto
-
Moses, Thus shalt thy shalt thou say unto the children of Israel,
-
the Lord God of your father's, the God of Abraham, the God of
-
Isaac, the God of Jacob, have sent me unto you.
-
This is my name forever, and this is my memorial unto all
-
generations. Why did that bring any comfort?
-
Whenever they asked who, who, who, who, who's, who?
-
Who am I going to say send them? What?
-
What name am I going to give? Because there was an
-
understanding, a person's name denoted presence.
-
Hey man. And so whenever the people heard
-
from Moses, hey, I'm not here on my own, I'm here.
-
The I am has sent me a that Yahweh that Jehovah sent me.
-
Those people had an understanding that anywhere the
-
Lord's name was, his presence was.
-
And so they could trust going with Moses because they weren't
-
going by themselves. They were going with the
-
presence of the Lord because he came with the name Amen.
-
Even in the New Testament and the Bible speaks about Mary
-
having a son. His name shall be called Jesus,
-
for he shall save his people. Matthew 121 isn't it?
-
He shall save his people from their sins.
-
Jehovah means or Jesus means Jehovah or that capital Lord
-
saves. James 2 verse 7.
-
Do not they blasphemy that worthy thing by which ye are
-
called, or by which it is evoked, or by which it's put
-
upon you, a name that is placed upon you, the word called,
-
evoked, or placed upon that worthy name.
-
Because when His name gets upon a person, He owns them, He
-
redeems them. And we'll get there in just a
-
bit about His present. Well, let me just jump the boat
-
here real quick. That's the reason why we have
-
the great consolation of being filled with the baptism of the
-
Holy Ghost, because anywhere he puts his name, his presence, I'm
-
not worried about if I'm going to get it, I'm going to get it.
-
Because if His name gets placed upon me, I have biblical
-
precedent that anywhere He puts His name, His presence goes.
-
Old Testament, Tabernacle and temple.
-
Read of it in the Book of Kings. He says, I place my name upon
-
that, whether it be temple or Tabernacle.
-
You know what you see? Then at the dedication of these
-
buildings, the Bible says the presence of the Lord entered the
-
house in so much that the priests could not even stand to
-
minister. What happened where He put His
-
name, His presence showed up. Oh, God.
-
OK, you got a little bit more Scripture in you.
-
Yeah. We got a brother.
-
We got 66. No, I'm Joe.
-
Acts 15, verse 7. When there had been much
-
disputing, Peter rose and said unto them, men and brethren, you
-
know how that a good while ago God made choice among us that
-
the Gentiles, right they first come.
-
They thought this thing was only for the Jews, but that the
-
Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel and
-
believe and God, which you know, if the heart spare them witness
-
giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us and put no
-
difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.
-
That's amazing. We see this also accounted in
-
the book of Acts chapter #11 that's not up there for you
-
brother Zach, I'm sorry, but it's not there.
-
Amen. The Bible says in there, when
-
they were talking about this concept and idea of the Gentiles
-
also received in the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
-
He says in Acts 11 and verse 14, who shall tell thee words
-
whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved?
-
And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them as on us
-
at the beginning. And it's them that he said he
-
remembered the word of the Lord how that he said John and be
-
baptized with water. But you shall be baptized with
-
the Holy Ghost. He says just as it was for the
-
Gentile, it was for the Jew on the the day of Pentecost, just
-
as the Jew experienced it, the Gentile experienced it.
-
Now with that we have a a bunch of naysayers day.
-
Well, you know, the the Holy Ghost of speaking in tongues is
-
is not for anybody. And that was just a 1st century
-
occurrence because on that day they sing cloven tongues like as
-
fire, and they heard a rush he mighty wind.
-
But when we read in Scripture just a little time later, both
-
in Acts 11 and in Acts 15, whenever the recounting what
-
happened for the Gentiles, all the things that make up the Holy
-
Ghost was there minus cloven tongues of fire.
-
Seeing that and hearing a wind, which tells me the primary
-
pattern then for salvation is repentance, baptism in the
-
infilling. The Holy Ghost was speaking in
-
new tongues. What's that tell me that I get
-
it just like they got it. He said they put no difference.
-
Folks, I'm not receiving some other Holy Ghost.
-
I'm not receiving a second grace.
-
I'm not receiving some, if you will, abnormality or some second
-
version. No, I'm receiving what the first
-
church received on the day of Pentecost.
-
I received it just like they received it with the name, with
-
the water, with other. This is not the second church or
-
the 52nd church. This is the church.
-
And he's only coming after one bride.
-
Not 2, not 3, not 5. He's coming after a bride who's
-
made herself ready, without spot, without wrinkle.
-
And the church can only get like that if she's baptized.
-
Bible says First Corinthians 6 and verse #11 and such were some
-
of you. Oh, I wish I had time to talk
-
about it. Let me just talk about a little
-
bit. Is this OK?
-
First Corinthians chapter #6 is that long, long list where the
-
apostle begins to speak about all these different types of
-
people, Amen. That were unrighteous.
-
Unrighteous people. He said in verse 9 and 1st
-
Corinthians 6 they cannot inherit the Kingdom of God.
-
Unrighteous people remember God righteousness, that
-
righteousness spell into salvation.
-
People without salvation cannot enter into the Kingdom of God or
-
the unrighteous. Look what he says.
-
Not fornicators, nor adulterers or adulterers or effeminate or
-
abusers of themselves, nor thieves, covetous drunks,
-
revilers, extortioners, and here at the Kingdom of God.
-
But note he said in such were some of you, you were some of
-
those people, you were some of those that were, if you will,
-
profane and unclean. But what happened?
-
The Bible says that ye are washed, that ye are sanctified,
-
that ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by
-
the Spirit of our God, you were washed and justified through a
-
name that was evoked over you in baptism, and you received a
-
spirit. So you're not effeminate
-
anymore. It's like that old cucumber.
-
You're not a cucumber, right? You're a big deal.
-
Just had to. Just when the spirits moving
-
like that, you just got to hey, man, oh, man, stand for me.
-
We'll try to sew this up. You're washed.
-
You're sanctified. You're justified.
-
John 112 But as many as received Him, to Him, to them gave he
-
power to become the sons of God, a Son of God.
-
I'm a Son of God. I cut the name of my Father even
-
to them that believe on His name, which were born not of
-
blood, nor the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man,
-
but of God. And the Word was made flesh and
-
dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory, presence, the
-
only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
-
They become the sons of God. They got His name, and then they
-
witnessed His glory, presence. Matthew 2121.
-
I've already referenced this Speaking of Mary.
-
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shall call His name
-
Jesus, for He shall save His people from their sins.
-
Now all of this was done that it might be fulfilled, which was
-
spoken by the Lord, by the prophet saying, Behold, a virgin
-
shall be with child, she shall bring forth a son.
-
They shall call His name Emmanuel, which being
-
interpreted is God with us. We get Jesus, we get that
-
covenant name, it's God with us. When you get His name, you get
-
you'll get Him because wherever His name goes and is applied,
-
His presence will show up again. This is why if we repent or
-
baptize in the name of the Lord Jesus, we shall received the
-
gift of the Holy Ghost. When He puts His name on you.
-
Just wait because he's going to put his presence in you.
-
Folks, we bow our heads, but I'm, I'm presenting to you today
-
the best deal that there is that you've ever had.
-
And that's you can take a life of the Adamic nature of being a
-
Sinner from the moment of your entrance into the world until
-
now. This can't be done by a
-
physician, A neurologist, anybody in the medical field,
-
but by going down in the name of Jesus Christ, having already
-
repented of your sins, by going down in the name of the Lord
-
Jesus Christ and baptism of water, all of that, however many
-
years of it is there, can be removed in a moment.
-
No anesthetic. I can just be removed in a
-
moment, folks. It's the best deal I know.
-
He can take my shame, my pain, my guilt.
-
He can take my wrong, mistakes of Commission and omission,
-
mistakes I normally did and things that I even wasn't aware
-
of. And in a moment, the power
-
that's invested in the name to become owned by him, redeemed by
-
him, and it sets me up for receiving his presence, his
-
Spirit. If you need baptized in Jesus
-
name today, you need to be baptized.
-
He must be baptized. It's one of the things that we
-
must do. Oh God, we come to you.
-
We begin to pray to the Lord right now.
-
If you've never repented of your sins before, you've never
-
repented if you've never confessed with your mouth and
-
received forgiveness of sins today you can.
-
There's not like a particular mode or anything.
-
You can just talk to God and be honest about yourself, be honest
-
about your life. You don't have to have these and
-
thou's and you know introduced into your language and talk to
-
him just as a friend because he is that friend.
-
Scripture says that stick of closer than a brother.
-
You can just be brutally honest with the Lord.
-
He hears. He hears He's not like a God
-
that's a far off that doesn't doesn't interact with humanity.
-
We see him interact over and over again throughout the Word.
-
He gets down in the middle of it all.
-
He loves you today. He loves you today.
-
He doesn't just see what you are, He sees what you can be.
-
He wants to put His name on you. He wants to put his name on you.
-
He wants to redeem you. He wants to own you.
-
He wants a relationship with you.
-
What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood.
-
Nothing but the blood of Jesus. I love you, Lord.
-
Brother Mason, if we can go right now.
-
Oh, let's feel after him today of happily we might find him for
-
he's not far from everyone of us.
-
Saulters open if you want to pray or if you're praying in
-
your Pew, wherever you are, a full surrender to God.
-
Lord, I don't want my life to be my own.
-
I don't want to have control over my own life.
-
We just need to surround. We just need to surrender.
-
We just need to give up to yield here.
-
I am God, then you rushed and cleanse me.
