  1. I'm not alone. As long as I got King Jesus, I'm

  2. not alone. Yeah.

  3. Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will

  4. feel fear. No either.

  5. For thou art with me. Thy rod and thy staff, they

  6. comfort me. The Bible says he's prepared a

  7. table before us in the presence even of our enemies, Amen.

  8. We are not alone tonight. Hallelujah is our strength.

  9. Amen. Just a few announcements tonight

  10. as you're standing. 26 this week is a master overflow rally in

  11. New Castle IN anybody that desires to go to that Pastor

  12. Anthony Wilkes will be ministering up there also the

  13. 28th right here on Sunday. And the PM evangelist Michael

  14. Maupin is swinging by Amen for a night service with us.

  15. He had an opening and place where he was preaching didn't

  16. have a night service. So yes, he can swing by.

  17. He said of course, Amen. Also coming into the month of

  18. October, October the 2nd, which is a Thursday is the power hour

  19. here at the church. What that is is prayer.

  20. We have prayer here. The doors of the church are open

  21. from 7:00 to 8:00 and people can come and go as they desire and

  22. pray. So it's a time to come together

  23. collectively. And while others are here

  24. lifting up names maybe of family members or your church family or

  25. your community just covers the gamut.

  26. Amen. So you can come and be a part of

  27. that. Also state this.

  28. It's I say it's a little ways off, but not really it's close

  29. on October the 11th is our annual chili supper and hayride

  30. that takes place here at the church on that Saturday.

  31. All right. And there's stuff up online

  32. Facebook concerning that. So matter of fact, it'd be our

  33. second annual cornhole tournament.

  34. We got a list up on the bulletin board that if you're wanting to

  35. be a part of that tournament, you and another individual and

  36. put your names back there and there's a line for your team

  37. name. All right, make a team and have

  38. a little, you know, competition. There's trophies involved in a

  39. small monetary gifting prize from that as well.

  40. And so that's on October the 11th and that kind of

  41. springboards us into a revival fall revival, the 12th through

  42. the 15th. That's a Monday through a or

  43. Sunday through Wednesday with brother Tyler and sister Kayla

  44. Smith will be here each night. We'll be having service Sunday

  45. morning, Sunday night, Monday night, Tuesday night, Wednesday

  46. night, and for Tuesday and Wednesday night.

  47. Amen. Succumb and be a part of that

  48. Genesis chapter 24. Excited about what God did on

    Genesis 24 chapter mention

  49. Sunday AM. Amber over here got refreshed

  50. with the Holy Ghost and had spoken tongue since she was 13

  51. on Sunday morning. And then on Sunday night, God

  52. filled Brittany with the Holy Ghost.

  53. We're excited about that, she attested to my wife.

  54. That just kept happening on her drive home.

  55. And folks, you know, that can happen anytime.

  56. Homework, grocery store, your personal prayer closet, it don't

  57. matter. It's always accessible wherever

  58. you are, wherever you go. Amen.

  59. And Brittany's going to be getting baptized on Sunday.

  60. She wants to get baptized on Sunday.

  61. So excited about that. Genesis 24, I'll read a few

  62. verses of Scripture. Let you be seated.

  63. The Bible says in verse #12 This is where we left off last week.

  64. And he said, This is the servant of Abraham.

  65. And he said, O Lord God of my master Abraham, I pray thee,

  66. send me good speed this day, and shew kindness into my master

  67. Abraham. Behold, I stand here by the well

  68. of water, and the daughters of the men of the city come out to

  69. draw water. Let it come to pass that the

  70. damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee

  71. that I may drink, and she shall say, drink, and I will give thy

  72. camels drink also. Let the same be she that thou

  73. has appointed for thy servant Isaac, and thereby shall I know

  74. that thou has shewed kindness unto my master.

  75. We're talking about. There's a lot of stuff going to

  76. talk about tonight. So I just put her under the the

  77. umbrella of Behold the Bride, right, Because that's what we

  78. have here with Rebecca, Amen. So just kind of put it under

  79. that heading tonight Before I pray tonight, though, it's good

  80. to see Dixie again. She was here Sunday night.

  81. Good to see Dixie again, Amen. Of course, it's good to have

  82. then Brittany and Josh and James and Winter and Searcy, Amen,

  83. this evening. Glad to have all of them.

  84. And so, and Speaking of that, Josh is here, but he's got to

  85. leave for work at midnight. So he came home, took a nap so

  86. he could be here at church. Isn't that honorable?

  87. That's honorable. Let's pray that the Lord would

  88. help us. Father, I love you tonight.

  89. I thank you Lord for your word. Thank you Lord Jesus for your

  90. mercy. I thank you Lord, for your

  91. spirit. God it knows no bounds.

  92. God it goes, Lord all places with us.

  93. I pray God that you're able to help your people.

  94. God open our mind and understanding.

  95. We'll thank you and praise you God for each and everything that

  96. you do. The name of Jesus Christ that I

  97. pray Hallelujah and Amen. The church say Amen, Amen.

  98. God bless you night you may be seated want the Lord to grant us

  99. understanding here today. On that note, just real quickly

  100. this is no one knows this but me.

  101. I tried to dictate to my wife speech to text twice today and I

  102. said what I wanted to say and it come up with some.

  103. I mean I'm not talking about a little different.

  104. I'm talking about like totally different than when I said I did

  105. this a couple times and then realized Sister Asia, that my

  106. dictation was set for Hebrew. And so I was speaking English

  107. and it was it was trying to decipher my English as Hebrew

  108. and Trent and it wasn't doing right.

  109. So I had to hit it over to English because I got my

  110. keyboard will do Hebrew or or English.

  111. And so it wasn't translating at all at all.

  112. We're looking at here chapter #24 just kind of give you just a

  113. little quick backdrop for some that have been here.

  114. This, this is the story of Abraham's servant finding a

  115. bride for Isaac. And this is important because

  116. Genesis enters a time whenever you read the book of Genesis,

  117. there's a lot spoken about Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and

  118. Joseph. And we've already looked a lot

  119. in this series about Abraham. But things are about ready to

  120. shift now over to his son music. And in order for them to shift,

  121. he needs a bride to be able to reproduce and have his own

  122. family. And so as we've looked at this

  123. Abraham servant is on this. He's on this, this, this

  124. mission, if you will, of finding a bride.

  125. I don't know. I know if I was in issues, I

  126. don't know if I would want to be responsible for finding someone

  127. else's bride. But that's what this servant's

  128. responsibility was. But he wasn't just sent with no

  129. instruction. Abraham had told him and given

  130. him clear instructions. But not only had he got

  131. instructions for Abraham, we read in Scripture that that this

  132. servant has also prayed to God. He's asked to God for for some

  133. guidance in finding Isaac a wife.

  134. And as a matter of fact, as we read this, the servant's prayer

  135. is quite detailed and how he wants some confirmation that the

  136. woman that he finds is the woman that should be Isaac's bride.

  137. And so he asked even the Lord. He said, I want the process, I

  138. want good speed. I want this to take place, you

  139. know, quickly. And I want there to be kindness

  140. and grace shown to my master Abraham, as you would respond to

  141. my request. And so there are some parts of

  142. this task of finding a wife for for Isaac, that the servant, of

  143. course, was responsible for brother Pat.

  144. He had to go, as Abraham said, to his kindred, and his family

  145. had to be at the right place and the right family.

  146. But there were other parts of this that God would have to

  147. influence, that God would have to have a hand in.

  148. And so while the the servant could position himself in the

  149. land that was Abraham's family, a man where the women were out

  150. of all these women, which woman is it going to be Lord?

  151. And of all these women, which one is the one that I'll know is

  152. the right one that will be the willing partner that will leave

  153. her country, her place, and follow me back to where Isaac is

  154. the promised land. And so it, it goes to show us

  155. that the servants obedience alone just wasn't enough, but he

  156. needed God's intervention as well.

  157. We find that folks, a lot of times our own life, it doesn't

  158. just take our, our obedience, it takes the intervention of God in

  159. our life as well. And we live, we live sometimes

  160. our Christian lives in that, in that tension of doing our part

  161. faithfully, right? Doing our part faithfully, but

  162. then also dependent upon the Lord to do what only the Lord

  163. can do. And so we, we got to understand

  164. that we, we, we must do what we can.

  165. I have said this a lot, my Christian journey.

  166. I must do what I can, but then I got to trust God for what I

  167. cannot, right? But it's kind of a, a happy

  168. sandwich, all right. Whenever you do what you do and

  169. let God do what he can do, then marvelous things happen.

  170. And so the servant is in Abraham's homeland.

  171. Here, according to Scripture, he's even standing at the well

  172. where women usually came to draw water.

  173. So he's at the right place to meet some ladies.

  174. He's right where he needs to be, even in the vicinity of being

  175. able to meet some of Abraham's family.

  176. But the servant begins to pray and he explains how, Lord, I'm

  177. going to pray this prayer and I want to be able to recognize the

  178. right woman. And it's important.

  179. The servant does not pray vaguely.

  180. The servant is pretty specific in his prayer.

  181. Amen. It's pretty specific.

  182. Matter of fact. Let me tell you, you can be

  183. specific in your prayers. I know sometimes we pray in

  184. generalities, you know this and that, but you can get specific

  185. with God and God can answer specifically.

  186. So there's nothing wrong with getting specific with God in

  187. your prayers. I mean, list sometimes the

  188. details and just watch the handiwork of God tick off some

  189. of those things just identically to how you you have asked or

  190. that you've implored him to do. And so there's no doubt whenever

  191. God answers a specific prayer in a particular way, right, When

  192. it's no generality, but the, the, the layers have been set of

  193. what, what you're asking God and he does it, you know, without

  194. doubts that God has answered your prayer.

  195. And so this is how the servant has basically set up his prayer.

  196. He is on a search for a woman of character, all right, for Isaac,

  197. he is looking for a woman that is hospitable, right?

  198. Because one thing, that's what Abraham has been this far in

  199. this story. He's been very hospitable to

  200. strangers. He has cared for them.

  201. He has been kind to them. And so the servant is looking

  202. for a woman that that's kind of compatible with that whole

  203. family dynamic. And he's looking for a woman

  204. that's willing to share her time and her energy, as we'll see

  205. here in the scripture, because he will ask, he tells the Lord,

  206. I'm going to ask for the a woman to drink and I want her.

  207. Here's a specific prayer. I want her to agree to give me a

  208. drink, but also then agreed to give my camels, which he had ten

  209. of them drink also. And he says whatever woman

  210. accepts this task, whatever woman does that, that way I'll

  211. know that will be the one that God has appointed or has chosen

  212. for Isaac. Now, listen, the servant's not

  213. getting superstitious on us here.

  214. He's just trying to use some mode of discernment.

  215. I want to know that I know that this will be the right woman and

  216. and he wanted more for Isaac and I know this is hard for us in

  217. this generation to accept maybe sometimes, but he wanted more

  218. for Isaac more than just a beautiful woman, more than just

  219. a well to do off woman, right? He wanted a wife that was

  220. suitable, right for for coming alongside Isaac and being a part

  221. of God's covenant, right? He was looking for that type of

  222. woman. And so with that, he was willing

  223. to choose character. He was valuing character over

  224. convenience. What do you mean by that?

  225. I mean, he's already travelled about a month to get to where

  226. he's at. That's not convenient.

  227. But that character isn't always conveniently found.

  228. He was looking for character. And so I know things don't

  229. always happen like this, but while the servant was still

  230. praying, the scripture tells us basically while the servant was

  231. still praying, Rebecca came out of the city to draw water at the

  232. well. Now it don't always happen like

  233. that, but again, just because it don't always happen like that

  234. doesn't mean it can't happen like that.

  235. But it did while he's still praying, she comes out to draw

  236. water to well, for that matter, the servant was in a position in

  237. a place where where he, he saw it.

  238. He he saw her coming, Amen. And he saw this thing

  239. developing, Amen. And so I think it's important

  240. that as we pray, to have faith that as we pray that God is

  241. starting to answer. Listen, I know sometimes now I

  242. know sometimes the answer is no, or sometimes the answer is wait.

  243. But I think we can get into a posture where we begin to start

  244. praying and saying, I believe the moment I start praying, God

  245. is going to start to answer. However that answer is going to

  246. develop or whatever the finality is.

  247. But I know we have the assurance of Scripture.

  248. He hears and he answers our prayers.

  249. Amen. Even if they're delayed remain,

  250. I'm going to remain faithful because God many times is

  251. working behind the scenes that we, our eyes can't even see or

  252. pick up on what God is already putting together people and

  253. places and timing, all that little stuff.

  254. And so in Scripture like verse #15 there's a little genealogy

  255. given and that's really for us. Abraham isn't learning about

  256. this right now, but we are. And what we're learning again is

  257. that Rebecca is a part of Abraham's family.

  258. So one of the things is being clicked off the list.

  259. April 7 when you go to my Kindred, we we see that that the

  260. servant is right where Abraham needed him to be.

  261. Let's go on and look at verse #16 tonight and go forward just

  262. a little bit. The Bible says and the damsel

  263. was very fair. There you go.

  264. The damsel was very fair to look upon a virgin.

  265. Neither had any man known her. And she went down to the well

  266. and filled her pitcher, and came up, and the servant ran to meet

  267. her, and said, Let me, I pray thee, drink a little water of

  268. thy pitcher. And she said, see what we're

  269. seeing here is the plane out of the details of his prayer.

  270. Let me, I pray thee, drink a little water.

  271. He asked of her, of thy pitcher. And she said, drink, my Lord.

  272. OK, that's good. I could see it in his mind.

  273. Chained one thing. And she hasted and let down her

  274. pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink.

  275. And when he had done giving him drinks, she said, I will draw

  276. water for thy camels also. He prayed specifically Brother

  277. Trout, not just that she would give him drink when he asked,

  278. but that she would offer without being asked of watering the

  279. camels until they have done drinking.

  280. Verse 19, Verse 20. And she hasted and emptied her

  281. pitcher into the through and ran again into the well to draw

  282. water and drew for all his camels.

  283. That's 10 camels, folks. We'll talk about that in a bit.

  284. And the man wondering, look at this, the servant is kind of

  285. awestruck. The man wandering at her held

  286. his peace, to wit, or to know whether the Lord had made his

  287. journey prosperous or not. And it came to pass.

  288. I'm going to read a few more verses, then we'll talk about

  289. him. And it came to pass, as the

  290. camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden earring in

  291. the half of a shackle and weight, and two bracelets for

  292. her hands of 10 shekels weight of gold.

  293. He gave her items of gold and said, Whose daughter art thou?

  294. Tell me, I pray thee, is there any room in my father's house

  295. for us to lodge in? And she said to him, I am the

  296. daughter. Here she goes with the genealogy

  297. of Bethuel the son of Milka, which she bare unto no whore.

  298. She said, moreover unto him, We have both straw and provender

  299. enough, and room to lodge, You can come to the house.

  300. And the man bowed down his head, and worship the Lord.

  301. And he said, Blessed be the Lord God of my Master Abraham, who

  302. have not left destitute my Master of his mercy and his

  303. truth. I being in the way, the Lord led

  304. me to the House of my Master's brethren, and the damsel ran and

  305. told them of her mother's house, these things.

  306. Now look at this again back to verse 16.

  307. It tells us that the servant, of course, noted her appearance,

  308. that she was very fair to look upon.

  309. But I think it's even more important to understand that

  310. before he ever saw her, that he prayed for guidance concerning

  311. whoever it would be. He didn't pray for guidance

  312. after he saw the knockout. No, he prayed for guidance and

  313. then he just observed that that's a Fair Lady.

  314. And that happened to be the one that answered the that was an

  315. answer to the prayer that he prayed.

  316. What I'm saying is his choice wasn't predicated upon her

  317. appearance, wasn't just because of how she looked.

  318. That's a great bonus that he needed a lady of character,

  319. Amen. Because his prayer, he if if he

  320. had not started with the prayer and with the guidance, looks

  321. could have derailed him. Looks could have derailed him

  322. from what was right. The Bible says in Proverbs 31

  323. and verse 30 the the the the Proverbs 31 lady of the

  324. Scripture says favor is deceitful and beauty is vain or

  325. beauty is fleeting, it's fading. It can fool you, but a woman

  326. that feareth the Lord character, she shall be praise.

  327. So this woman, though he notes, says she's beautiful.

  328. The Scripture tells us that no other man has known her.

  329. She went down in verse 16 down into the well and came up out of

  330. the well. In those days, wells typically

  331. had a few steps that you had to go down in to to the brim of the

  332. water and then hoist that water back up out of the well.

  333. And so she comes with a a pitcher on her her shoulder and

  334. she comes up out of the well whenever she agreed to give him

  335. something to drink, she come up out of the well with a pitcher

  336. of water and the Bible says that he ran to her.

  337. Ask her the question. And if you read all the

  338. scripture, because this whole prayer and this whole dynamic is

  339. repeated more than once, that's the reason why it's 67.

  340. And in today's world, I don't know what all this 6-7 Amen

  341. stuff, 67 verses long. So once they would do this

  342. nonetheless. We know that really Abraham is

  343. just asking for a drink or a little bit of water.

  344. He just wants a little bit of water.

  345. But she acts without hesitation. She hastes and she gives him

  346. more than a sip. That's right.

  347. According to Scripture, she lets him drink till he's satisfied.

  348. So she's going above and beyond even what he asked concerning

  349. himself. And again, he didn't ask for her

  350. to water the camels. She offered to water the camels.

  351. Even in those days, it was almost expected for ladies at

  352. the well to to give a traveler something to drink at the well

  353. as they were traveling by. But it wasn't customary or

  354. necessary for them to give their animals anything to drink.

  355. So she's even going beyond what is customary and giving these

  356. animals something to drink. Here's the interesting about

  357. Rebecca. She could have been in her own

  358. mind frame. I got my picture of water.

  359. I've already been there this morning and got water.

  360. I'm going there now and getting water, going to get water for my

  361. household and go home and call it a day.

  362. But Rebecca wasn't so wrapped up and just getting water for her

  363. house so that she ignores the servant.

  364. We're looking at someone that's not real selfish here, not real

  365. self-centered here and to go above that of her own accord and

  366. say, you know what, I'm sensitive to a need here.

  367. He's got 10 camels. I'll water the camels also.

  368. You must understand when Rebecca said she'd water the camels, she

  369. had to know that the sacrifice that she just signed up for to

  370. the servant and to all 10 camels, the Bible says in verse

  371. 19 till those camels were even done drinking.

  372. Historically, they say at the end of the day it wasn't

  373. anything for a camel to drink 25 to 30 gallons, a camel 25 to 30

  374. gallons of water and the ancient water parts of that time were

  375. typically held no more than 3 gallons of water.

  376. If she had to bring three in a three gallon pitcher just for

  377. one camel, 25 to 30 gallons, and she's bringing 250 to 300

  378. gallons for 10 camels, that means she's making 80 to 100

  379. trips down steps to at least the mouth of the well and back up

  380. just to water the camels, scholar R Kent Hughes said.

  381. He said a camel takes about 10 minutes to drink its full

  382. complement or its full quantity of water.

  383. He said that would mean Rebecca's laborers filled about

  384. one 1 1/2 to 2 sweaty hours Going down to the well, back out

  385. of the well, down to the well, back out of the well, down to

  386. the well, back out of the well for someone she don't know, for

  387. animals she has no connection to, Abraham says.

  388. I think I got my lady because she has the spirit of sacrifice

  389. in her life and she's going to marry a man that was supposed to

  390. be a sacrifice. You want to talk about a match

  391. made in heaven? He said this lady, she, she is

  392. willing to give of herself sacrificially.

  393. She's not self-centered, she's not selfish.

  394. She's willing to do all this. She has a heart that portrays A

  395. servant's heart and a servant's spirit.

  396. She's not just worried about her own house.

  397. So she's concerned. No, this I think I got.

  398. And whenever you look in Scripture, you look at verses

  399. like 16 and 1818 through 20, there are about about four

  400. action or not 412 action verbs that are associated with

  401. Rebecca. She's hastening, she's going,

  402. he's being very quick, very diligent.

  403. And all this really calls to mind Ethan.

  404. Back whenever Abraham had special guests come to his

  405. house, what was he doing? He was hastening.

  406. He was being quick to be hospitable.

  407. Man, there's just a family. There's a congealing here of a

  408. family dynamic that that man, she would just look real good in

  409. this family because that's how my master Abraham operated as

  410. well. And so when Rebecca made this

  411. offer, Amen unto the servant aware of the sacrifice that it

  412. was going to require understanding she didn't

  413. understand, but the servant understanding that her fervor

  414. matched the fervor of the family matched the fervor of Abraham.

  415. But notice here's she doing this and I know this would be this

  416. would be hard for me being the man.

  417. See this woman. Trip 39, trip 40.

  418. The Bible says he's just over there.

  419. He's not interrupting. It's not as low.

  420. He's cutting to the chase for the Mason.

  421. And at the 40th trip he says, hey, great job, we're good,

  422. let's go on like I already know. No, the Bible says that he's

  423. just kind of over there, No interruption.

  424. He asked for good speed. Here's 880 to 100 trips taking

  425. place. But he's not wanting to rush

  426. things. He's not wanting to rush things.

  427. He's not wanting to force anything.

  428. Rebecca's running back and forth and he didn't stop her after so

  429. many trips. What's what are you doing,

  430. servant? He's he's like I've got to make

  431. sure that God has made my journey prosperous because she

  432. started, but will she finish? She started, she's committed.

  433. Now I'm just going to sit over here and see if she keeps the

  434. full commitment because my, my servant, my Isaac needs somebody

  435. that will be committed, not just start well, but will finish

  436. well. So the Bible says in Genesis 24

  437. and verse 21, look at it says the man that's the servant

  438. wondering at her held his peace to whip.

  439. The word whip means no to know whether the Lord had made his

  440. journey prosperous or not, because as he's seen, he's like

  441. God's stealing the deal. God, God is answering my prayer

  442. to the detail. Hey man, anybody that's going to

  443. agree to water me, so to speak, and my camels and and and

  444. Rebecca agreed. She kept her word just as she

  445. promised. And he just has a wandering all

  446. heart over here trip after trip after trip.

  447. And maybe her steps slow brother Fred, my steps would have slowed

  448. after 100 trips to the well. Maybe her steps had slowed.

  449. But Even so she continued. Rebecca finish what she started.

  450. And so the servant, though up to this point has said nothing to

  451. her about his purpose. He did not come out of the chute

  452. saying, will you give me something to drink because I

  453. have a man I'd like you to marry.

  454. He doesn't, He doesn't lead with that.

  455. He has said nothing about his purpose.

  456. And yet verse 22, he gives her items of gold, which almost is

  457. some type of a payment, if you will, or kindness.

  458. He shows her for the work that she has done.

  459. But his prayer has been answered.

  460. The guidelines given to him by Abraham and the prayer he has

  461. prayed to God, they have been answered.

  462. And so the servant teaches us just a few things here and that

  463. we need to pray. You talk about this is marriage,

  464. right? This is finding a mate, mate and

  465. other things. There's nothing wrong with just

  466. about praying about the ordinary matters of life.

  467. Sometimes we think we only need to employ prayer whenever there

  468. we need a miracle or something that's earth shaking.

  469. No prayer is good for the ordinary things of life.

  470. My Grandma McGee, she prayed for washing machines just so they're

  471. hoping that they'd work again. Pray for animals.

  472. Sometimes we might think that's comical, but just the ordinary

  473. things of life. And so our prayers and the

  474. answers to our prayers, though many times help us know whether

  475. or not we need to proceed with some matters.

  476. And that's what it was for Abraham's servant.

  477. And notice what he did when he understood that God had answered

  478. you look at it in verse 26 and 27.

  479. He stopped, he bowed himself over, he worshipped, and he was

  480. thankful to God for answering his prayer.

  481. I think maybe that's a spot that we fell sometimes in that is

  482. being thankful for the answer. Sometimes I just get busy with

  483. right for a reason. I, I spill out all my prayers

  484. and God comes through and I just live my life as though it was

  485. owed to me. But I want to pause and

  486. recognize God. This only happened because you,

  487. you, you, you helped orchestrate this to happen.

  488. And I, I want to be grateful. I'm going to be thankful that

  489. you do hear and you do answer. I'm not, I'm not going to take

  490. it for granted of what you've done right here.

  491. Someone's Amen. All right, let's move on. 9 O

  492. clock's coming. The baby's in the oven.

  493. Verse #29 And Rebecca had a brother and his name was Laban,

  494. right? Abraham wouldn't know if he

  495. could come to the house. She says, yeah, we got straw, We

  496. got provender, we got a place. Come on, you'll be no problem.

  497. Rebecca had a brother, and his name was Laban.

  498. And Laban ran out into the man unto the well.

  499. And it came to pass, when he saw the earring in the bracelets,

  500. these items that were given to his sister's hands.

  501. And when he heard the words of Rebecca, his sister saying, Thus

  502. spake the man unto me, that he came unto the man, and behold,

  503. he stood by the camels at the well.

  504. And he said, Come in, thou blessed the Lord, wherefore

  505. standest thou without? For I have prepared the house

  506. and room for the camels. And the man came into the house

  507. and he ungirded his camels and gave strong preventer for the

  508. camels and water to wash his feet and the men's feet that

  509. were with him. Now it seems like here that

  510. Rebecca's from a very hospitable family.

  511. She's invited him. They've they've supplied things

  512. for him. They make him comfortable.

  513. Whenever she told her family about the man, the Bible says

  514. that Laban went directly out to invite him in.

  515. It even says that he had prepared the house.

  516. He prepared the house for this guest and these tin camels and

  517. everything that they would need. He, he offered water to to

  518. Abraham and to his servants so that they could wash their feet,

  519. which was a common, common hospitable trait there in the

  520. Old Testament. Food was provided for them.

  521. All these notable actions. However, Laban is a character

  522. that's not just going to appear here, but he's going to appear

  523. later in Scripture as well with Jacob.

  524. And so as we look at Laban, we got to start questioning Laban's

  525. late the purity of Laban's actions because the Bible

  526. directs our attention to the fact that after Laban seemed the

  527. gifts that his sister were given, that's whenever he went

  528. into action. Oh, where'd you get that goat,

  529. sis? Oh, from this man now at the

  530. well, really point me in the direction, you know, and he's

  531. going out there and he's making all these accommodations.

  532. It's after he has heard this and he's heard about the entourage

  533. of the camels kind of perks up really, you know, and he's going

  534. out there. And so Laban saw this riches.

  535. Laban saw the game and it gives us a little bit of a glimpse

  536. into the character of Laban that we'll see even later in

  537. scripture that will come to know in the story of Jacob later.

  538. This is what the Scripture tells us, though in Proverbs with with

  539. some wisdom it says in Proverbs 16 and verse 2, all the ways of

  540. a man are clean in his own eyes, but the Lord way of the spirits,

  541. another word for that word, spirits, is the Lord way of the

  542. motives. See, some people do what they do

  543. with the purity, intent, and heart, and other people do what

  544. they do with altogether different motives.

  545. Some people will help people because it's the right thing to

  546. do. Some people will help people to

  547. see, if you scratch my back, will you scratch?

  548. Come on, come on. The motive.

  549. And so we looked at the character, because character

  550. isn't just about what we do, it's about what motivates us to

  551. do what we do. So Laban will become known

  552. later, and we'll get to it later in Scripture, but he'll become

  553. known later. He, he's going to be known as

  554. greedy, he's going to be known as opportunistic, he's going to

  555. be known as manipulative. He he exploits Jacob later,

  556. right his love that he had for Rachel and took advantage of him

  557. for forcing him to work for 14 years.

  558. Really, when it's all said and done for her, he he tries to

  559. cling to to Jacob and and and his children, not allowing them

  560. to leave. The Bible says he repeatedly

  561. changed Jacob's wages. He's he's, he's greedy.

  562. He's just got has to have a hand in something.

  563. So a lot of times we see him using people for personal gain,

  564. right? So, so here he is, he sees

  565. Abraham's servant. He's thinking, well, what, what

  566. type of potential, what type of material benefits could this

  567. visit bring our family? Could this visit bring me?

  568. Could this marriage arrangement? What could it do?

  569. So who he truly is is revealed by what motivates him, which

  570. totally contrasts his sister with the servant's heart.

  571. Not interested in herself, interested in another.

  572. Is everybody OK? We're marching on through here.

  573. Chapter #24 verse 33. I'm going to read a little bit

  574. and then then we'll, we'll probably skip some just because

  575. Verses 42 through 48 in particular is a retelling of the

  576. telling, is a retelling of the prayer retelling of what Abraham

  577. is already experiencing this day.

  578. And if someone's saying I can't believe they did that, listen,

  579. I've stood around with some of y'all's conversations, having to

  580. tell every detail of the story of the day.

  581. So don't you be too heavy on my good old boy Abraham's servant.

  582. You know? That's right, brother Fred,

  583. feeling the preaching spirit. Come on, right then I just and

  584. there was look at verse 33. This is Abraham at the house and

  585. there was set meat before him to eat, but he said I will not eat

  586. until I have told my Herod. Oh, that just hit me kind of

  587. funny right now thinking about the details of some people's

  588. story. Wait, let me tell you something.

  589. And he said speak on. And he said I am Abraham's

  590. servant. The Lord have blessed my master

  591. greatly. He's become great.

  592. We have given him flocks and herds, and I'm sure Laban is

  593. leaning in on the edge of his seat, and silver and gold and

  594. menservants and maidservants and camels and asses.

  595. And Sarah, my master's wife, bear a son to my master when she

  596. was old. And to him hath he given all

  597. that he hath. Wait a minute, you say the son's

  598. got it all? Yeah, OK, just want to make

  599. sure. My master made me swear, saying,

  600. thou shalt not take a wife to my son of the daughters of the

  601. Canaanites in whose land I dwell, But thou shalt go into my

  602. father's house to my kindred and take a wife into my son.

  603. I won't read all of it, folks. And I said into my master pre

  604. adventure, the woman will not follow me.

  605. And said unto me, The Lord before whom I walk will send his

  606. Angel with thee, and prosper thy way, and thou shalt take a wife

  607. for my son of my kindred of my father's house.

  608. Then shalt thou be cleared from this, my oath, when thou comest

  609. to my kindred. If they give not the one, thou

  610. shalt be clear from my oath. And so he's going to continue to

  611. talk then about the events of the day, the prayer that he

  612. prayed, how his prayer was answered with Genesis 42 through

  613. 48. I want to pick back up in verse

  614. 47. And I asked her and said, whose

  615. daughter art thou? Let's go on down to verse 49

  616. even. And now if he will deal kindly

  617. and truly with my master. So he's he's addressing them

  618. all, told them the whole story, every detail.

  619. He says, now if you will deal kindly and truly with my master,

  620. tell me. If not, tell me that I may turn

  621. to the right hand or to the left.

  622. He's basically saying I want her as my Isaac's wife.

  623. He says, and you got to let me know if you're going to allow

  624. that, right? Yeah, let me know if you're

  625. going to allow that. Let me just go on and read a few

  626. more verses, four more verses. Then Laban and Beth, you

  627. answered and said, the thing proceedeth from the Lord.

  628. We cannot speak into thee, bad or good.

  629. Behold, Rebecca is before thee. Take her and go and let her be

  630. thy master son's wife, as the Lord has spoken.

  631. And it came to pass that when Abraham's servant heard their

  632. words, he worshipped the Lord. Here he goes again, bound

  633. himself to the earth, and the servant brought forth jewels of

  634. silver and jewels of gold and raiment.

  635. I'm sure Laban's liking this and gave them to Rebecca, and he

  636. gave also to her brother and to her mother.

  637. Precious things. Now, again, the unsung, unsung

  638. hero here is the servant of Abraham.

  639. He's not going to allow anybody to deter him from his mission.

  640. I'm not even going to eat. Wait a minute.

  641. Let me tell you something, even after a long journey, I'm sure

  642. he was hungry and wanted some food.

  643. But he says, no, I, I got an errand here.

  644. I need to, I need to tell you that the Lord has put me on,

  645. that my master's put me on. And so he begins to talk about

  646. all of the wealth. He begins to talk about all the

  647. men servants and the maid servants and how all of that

  648. stuff Isaac will inherit. And that I'm sure being

  649. Rebecca's family, there's a certain amount of comfort to

  650. that, right? They want to know that their

  651. daughter is going to be well taken care of.

  652. They want to know that she's coming from a finance going

  653. going to perhaps a financially stable household.

  654. All right. And I'm sure again that Laban

  655. had his ears, ears peaked. But here was the caveat for

  656. everything. All this wealth, all these men,

  657. servants and maidservants that he shared with him.

  658. Is this that she must be willing to follow me back to the

  659. promised land? And if not, I'm free from what

  660. I've been commissioned to do. So he retells his prayer and he

  661. needed an answer from them. And he's basically tell them,

  662. tell me, tell me whether yes, tell me whether no, I'll turn to

  663. the left or the right. I need to know a yes or no.

  664. You know what he's saying. I don't want to waste anybody's

  665. time. I don't want to eat your food,

  666. right? Just tell me a yes or no and we

  667. can get this thing rolling. I just need to know.

  668. And the Bible says that her family saw it as God's will.

  669. That's what it says unto us. It says that they said that this

  670. thing proceedeth from the Lord. They saw it as God's will.

  671. They they in other words, they really didn't have anything to

  672. say in the matter because God was already speaking through

  673. what was done the way that the prayer into the detail that the

  674. prayer was answered. We can't speak good or bad of

  675. this. The the new English translation

  676. says it like this. Our wishes are of no concern.

  677. This thing's from God, man, I wish we could get to a spot like

  678. that, that whenever we notice the handiwork of God, it's like,

  679. you know what, my opinion really don't matter.

  680. I mean, why does God need my endorsement?

  681. He don't. And why, if I would think

  682. differently, what competition is that to God?

  683. It don't really matter. They said we're just we don't

  684. can't say good or bad. This thing is from the Lord.

  685. It's as the Lord have spoken, right?

  686. They didn't really have something to decide because God

  687. had already decided the handiwork and what God had

  688. already done with the Aaron and with the answering the prayer.

  689. And so here's the serving again. I love this guy, man.

  690. He's bowing over, he's worshipping again.

  691. He's thankful. He's thankful brother Trout to

  692. the Lord because he recognizes this as an act of God.

  693. And then he starts giving gifts. Rebecca, if you thought you got

  694. something at the well, we'll, here's some more silver and

  695. here's some more gold and here's some raiment.

  696. And then to her brother and her mother, he's given them precious

  697. things. I don't know what it is, but

  698. precious, precious things he's given to them.

  699. What I love about this, never long the way did the servant

  700. ever try to influence his Rebecca's decision.

  701. He's not trying to influence her decision because even after her

  702. family's decision, that's when he lavishes the goods upon them.

  703. He's lavishing upon Rebecca, maybe even some tokens of of

  704. marriage. As I said, whenever she's going

  705. to be taken from her family, there's going to be a void there

  706. in her family of work and so on and so forth.

  707. And so now the man eats and we look at verse 54 just one more

  708. time. They did eat and drink the men

  709. that were with him and tarried all night.

  710. They rose up in the morning. He said, send me away into my

  711. master, the servant saying, listen, you've noticed the hand

  712. of God in this. I've noticed the hand of God in

  713. this. Why Is there any reason to

  714. delay? I got about a month's journey

  715. back home. Let me take Rebecca and let's

  716. go. Let me take her home to her

  717. groom, Isaac. Everything will be fine.

  718. I mean, her family's already agreed to let her leave this,

  719. what the Bible says. And her brother and her mother,

  720. verse 55 said let the damsel abide with us a few days at the

  721. least 10 after that she shall go.

  722. And he said to them, hinder me not seeing the Lord have

  723. prospered my way, send me way that I may go to my master.

  724. And they said we will call the damsel Rebecca and we'll inquire

  725. at her mouth. Her family's requesting a few

  726. more days. And they might have been doing

  727. that, maybe thinking they need to do that for Rebecca.

  728. I mean, this has been all kind of sudden.

  729. Give her time to process this, you know what I'm saying?

  730. Eat a lamb's leg and figure out whether or not she wants to go

  731. back. Give her some time just to kind

  732. of Mull things over. Let everything settle in her

  733. heart and mind. You know what they said though?

  734. Said we'll call Rebecca and we'll let her decide.

  735. And whenever Rebecca was asked, will you go with this man, She

  736. said I will go. She didn't need any more time.

  737. She didn't need time to think it over.

  738. She was willing and ready to go. I don't know, folks, and there's

  739. no record of it in Scripture. There's no record in Scripture

  740. that all the covenant promises that was given to Abraham and

  741. Isaac were shared. We don't have no information of

  742. that whatsoever, but we read in the scripture that whenever they

  743. released Rebecca and that she would go in verse 60, the Bible

  744. says they that is her mother and her brother blessed Rebecca and

  745. said this is so interesting unto her.

  746. Thou art our sister, be thou mother of thousands of millions,

  747. and let thy seed possess the gate of those which hate them.

  748. Again, we have no record that the servant has shared any of

  749. the covenant promises that was for Abraham and Isaac with them.

  750. Yet as Rebecca's leaving her own family is proclaiming blessing

  751. upon her, let her be the mother of many children, and let her

  752. possess the gate of her enemy, which means property and land.

  753. That she possesses the gate. She has the city that the gate

  754. belongs to. Let her have property that 100%

  755. lines up with the covenant promise of Abraham and Isaac, of

  756. their descendants being many, and of a land that was promised

  757. unto them. Amen.

  758. And then again, everybody doing okay.

  759. Then again, we see a partnership.

  760. This is interesting that this would show up again.

  761. We just looked at this last week, the partnership between

  762. God and Abraham, right? We've seen this last week, and

  763. we see this again with Rebecca and the servant.

  764. The Bible says in verse #61 And Rebecca arose at her damsels,

  765. and they rode up on the camels and followed the man.

  766. This is what I want you to look at.

  767. And followed the man. And the servant took Rebecca and

  768. went his way. Rebecca followed the man, it

  769. says, and it says the servant took Rebecca.

  770. One might sit there for a moment and say, which is it?

  771. Did she follow him or was she taken?

  772. But the answer is both. It is a partnership.

  773. Again, Rebecca wants to go and he wants her to go, saying that

  774. she followed him or that he took her.

  775. Those are not forced activities. They are words of agreement.

  776. She wants to go, so he takes her.

  777. It's the same agreement that Abraham had.

  778. He departed, but it all says that God took him though from

  779. Herb Chaldis and I. I'll state it again.

  780. I'll hit the little nail again. We need that type of partnership

  781. with the Lord, Not just him, what He wants, but also our will

  782. submitting to wanting to go. We'll follow and He'll take.

  783. He'll take and we'll follow. There must be a partnership.

  784. The Bible says in verse 62, we didn't all right, we are.

  785. And the Isaac came from the way of the well of Lahai Roy, for he

  786. dwelt in the South country. Now where Isaac is coming from,

  787. it's interest because the same this Lahai Roy is the same well

  788. Hadgar had been at whenever Sarah had dismissed her in

  789. Genesis 16 and whenever God had told her you're going to have a

  790. you're going to have a son Ishmael, the same well that she

  791. was at where when she was feeling destitute and abandoned.

  792. And in that episode when God spoke to her, no one else is out

  793. there but her. So she knew God was speaking to

  794. her that she exclaimed, thou God sees me.

  795. And she named the well as much mean the well of the living one

  796. who sees me. God saw her in her place of

  797. destitute and abandonment alone. God sees me.

  798. And now Isaac has just left that place.

  799. The Bible says from that way from that place.

  800. And God has saw him after the death of his mother, Sarah, and

  801. is about ready to give him a wife for moving the promise of

  802. God forward just a little bit more.

  803. Verse #63 I know you folks are just amazed that we're doing

  804. this. And Isaac went out to meditate

  805. in the field at the evening tide, And he lifted up his eyes

  806. and saw, and behold, the camels were coming.

  807. And Rebecca lifted up her eyes when she saw Isaac.

  808. She lighted off the camel. For she had said into the

  809. servant, What man is this that walketh in the field to me?

  810. Does she's not ever seen him. And the servant had said, It is

  811. my master. Therefore she took a veil and

  812. covered herself. And the servant told Isaac all

  813. things that he had done. This is interesting because he

  814. we don't have 20 more verses for him telling every detail.

  815. It just wraps it up with see they learned, they learned.

  816. No never mind. And Isaac brought her into his

  817. mother's tent and took Rebecca and she became his wife.

  818. And he loved her. And Isaac was comforted after

  819. his mother's death. So here's Isaac.

  820. He's out in the field. He's he's meditating, he's

  821. praying in the field. He lifts up his eyes.

  822. He noticed camels, which were a rarity, Domesticated camels was

  823. a rarity for that day. So he knows those ain't

  824. anybody's camels. Those are our camels.

  825. And Rebecca, she sees him in the field as well.

  826. And she jumps off her camel because it was, it was not

  827. proper etiquette for a woman to be on a beast like that in the

  828. presence of a strange man. So she gets off her camel.

  829. The folks, you, you want to read your romance stuff and watch

  830. your romance stuff. This is the most romantic.

  831. You're saying, brother McGee, somebody riding a camel.

  832. Seriously. No, this is the most romantic.

  833. Look at verse 63. Look at it.

  834. This is where the romance is. Isaac lifted up his eyes the

  835. very next verse. Simultaneously, Rebecca lifted

  836. up her eyes, and the two locked a glance in the direction of the

  837. other. I mean, how much more romantic

  838. can you get? He lifted up his eyes.

  839. She lifted up her eyes. And chemistry.

  840. Don't you find it all in the Bible?

  841. There's murder mysteries, there's romance here.

  842. It's all there. Amen.

  843. So they locked glance and Rebecca's maybe assuming that it

  844. is Isaac, but she wants to know for sure who this man is that's

  845. approaching her again. She's never seen him before.

  846. And notice what the servant says.

  847. Abraham's servant, as it was from the beginning, says this is

  848. my my master. That's interesting because in

  849. the very beginning he was calling Abraham my master.

  850. But again, it's just a little tip off for us.

  851. Yeah, he's the son of Abraham, but there's not ready to come.

  852. A shift of authority and covenant, promise and

  853. responsibility right here from Abraham to Isaac, He says, yeah,

  854. Yeah. My, my master, the one that's

  855. going to be the carrier of the covenant, the new focal point

  856. for the promise. The Bible says, here's Rebecca.

  857. She veils herself. It's a sign of modesty.

  858. It's a sign of reverence, a sign of betrothal.

  859. Folks in that culture, unmarried woman would veil herself when

  860. meeting her future husband. This is part personal why that

  861. happens today even in our American weddings.

  862. The Bible Amen and so without re entering the entire event again,

  863. Scripture just kind of sums it all up.

  864. But here Isaac takes his bride to be.

  865. She's going to become his wife. The Bible says she became his

  866. wife in verse 67. Sarah remember his his mom is

  867. dead. Sarah is dead.

  868. There's a void, and Isaac brings Rebecca into his mom's tent, in

  869. essence, to fill that void. It it was more than just

  870. bringing her in the tent, it was a proclamation that you're going

  871. to become the new matriarch. You're going to become the new

  872. woman of the Covenant of promise.

  873. Alan P Ross said it like this. He said it's important to note

  874. that Rebecca actually replaced Sarah by entering the tent of

  875. Sarah. What's going on?

  876. He's he's letting this lady know you're, you're now apart.

  877. You're now connected to MyHeritage.

  878. You're now connected to all the covenant promises that I have

  879. been given. And between you and I, we have

  880. this burden of responsibility of carrying them forward for the

  881. next generation. And she became his wife and he

  882. loved her, which is always a tremendous phrase to me, being

  883. that they haven't ever seen each other.

  884. She became his wife and then he loved her.

  885. Because the day we talk about love as a fanciful feeling, but

  886. love is really a decision. Love's really a decision.

  887. He married her and then he just made a choice.

  888. I love her. Going to continue to love her.

  889. It's going to be mine. You can stand for me tonight.

  890. Think about this for a moment. If Rebecca thought the gifts

  891. that she was given at the well and at her house with something,

  892. she's just married into all these men, servants, maid

  893. servants, gold, silver, livestock left and right.

  894. What that means is due to this marriage, she now possesses all

  895. that Isaac possesses. In a moment.

  896. I know that that was right. It's a lot.

  897. It's a lot of verses. Sometimes narratives are just

  898. like that. They just just a little

  899. storyline there. But all that sets us up then for

  900. a new couple that will monitor and sons that will be born from

  901. their womb, right? And things that will come.

  902. And it's all pushing this whole story of the Bible forward,

  903. right? The story of the Bible being he

  904. had a man and a woman, the beginning they failed.

  905. And then he says, well, I'm going to make me a people.

  906. That's going to be a treasure to myself.

  907. And I'm going to start it with Abraham.

  908. And we're starting to trace that forward.

  909. That's where we're at. It's the story of the Bible next

  910. week. I know folks, we've had Sarah

  911. die. We've had Isaac be born, Isaac

  912. be born, Sarah die. We've had a wedding.

  913. We'll have another death next week.

  914. Come with your funeral, clothes on the dirge, whatever.

  915. We're going to say our last respects to Abraham, all right?

  916. Amen. There's a lot of things that I

  917. hope through this. There's some things we can take

  918. home though, right? Being specific in our prayers,

  919. Not trying to force God's will, but stand back and watch God's

  920. will. I don't want to determine the

  921. outcome. I want to verify the outcome

  922. because of what I've prayed. Amen.

  923. Hallelujah. I'm going to pray.

  924. I know there's man, we're all giddy around here.

  925. Baby Piper's going to be coming down the the finish line here.

  926. Amen. I don't know if Brother Mason

  927. over here can stand it. We already call him Elder Mason.

  928. I don't know if he's ready to accept that grandfather Grandpa

  929. Row or not, but it's coming. Amen.

  930. God bless you tonight. I'm going to pray right now.

  931. The Lord would help us this week.

  932. Father, we need your help, God. We can't make it a day without

  933. you, Lord, God, even our best efforts, Lord, would fall short.

  934. We need you to walk alongside us and help us.

  935. Give us direction and guidance from day-to-day.

  936. I pray, Lord, let your hand, God, be up on your people, God.

  937. Empower them, Lord, with faith to pray specific prayers and see

  938. your handiwork, Lord, in answering those prayers, God, as

  939. they have been prayed. I pray, O Lord, today, help us,

  940. O Lord, today, God, to be propelled by the right motives,

  941. not even pure motives, but the right motives.

  942. I pray, O God, today, Lord, be with us this week.

  943. God, keep everybody healthy. Lord, strengthen them.

  944. Lord, let things go well, Lord, in this birth and delivery,

  945. Lord, for Alex and grace, Lord, in the next Lord hours, Lord, I

  946. pray in Jesus name and the church say Amen, Amen.

  947. God bless you tonight. Jesus name shake a hand, Amen

  948. this evening and we'll be back here on Sunday.

  949. Amen.
