When Emptiness Brings The Blessing | Bishop McGee

Jesus, thank you. Jesus, praise the Lord,

everybody, Amen. Hasn't this been a good Sunday?

Amen. It's a good Sunday.

I feel the presence of the Lord in here tonight again, Amen.

Wonderful service this morning and God's doing things.

Just take a look. In the midst of all the sickness

and everybody that's going through problems, God's still

doing things. Amen.

Let's just keep that going. That's a great thing.

It's a great thing, Amen. Thank all of our visitors for

being here. Brother Andy, it's good to see

you. So good to see you.

Brother Billy good to see you again Amen.

Campbell family, aren't we glad for them Amen.

So glad for them Amen. Let's let's help Brother Josh

pray. He's working on his mom and dad.

And I remember when I still lived in the trailer court that

there was just one trailer between us and them.

And I remembered about lost his mother and it wasn't good at

all. I think they lost her four times

and she cold blue four times on him.

And he was telling me this morning that she is up and lost

£40, which has been a good thing for her and she's up moving

around, doing things. I've even seen her out in the

car driving by herself now. She's a miracle.

She's a miracle. He said it.

He said this morning, he said, yeah, it's a miracle.

We're glad for that. So why not just have them in

church? So let's let's pray as they deal

with them. Let's let's pray God to just

bring them on in Hallelujah. Praise God.

Let's remember Sunday is the start of pastor appreciation for

our pastor. And then the the rest of the

stuff will come later on Facebook.

So brother Reese told me to announce that.

So y'all keep that in mind. We want to, we want to, we're

thankful for our pastor and his family.

So we're thankful for our pastor and his family and we need to

show appreciation. Amen for that.

Amen. I'm going to be turning tonight

to the book of Ruth. I know we've heard lately and

about Ruth and this and that and things has been picked up, but I

feel like going there tonight and ministering in Ruth.

I'm going to go to chapter 1 and I'm not going to read all of

this. I'm just going to read a couple

verses and then kind of drop down and read a few more and

then would you see what God does with it tonight?

Chapter 1 of Ruth. Now it came to pass in the days

when judges ruled that there was a famine in the land.

Everybody said famine and a certain man of Bethlehem, Judea

went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he and his wife, his

two sons. The name of the man was

Elimelech, the name of his wife Naomi, the name of his two sons,

Malone and Shulian, Ephrites of Bethlehem, Judea.

And they came into the country of Moab and everybody said

continued there. Then I want to drop down to

verse 21 because most of you know this story.

If you don't, I will fill in the blanks a little bit after a

while. But verse 21 says this is Naomi

talking. You find her in verse 20 there.

And she said, I, she's telling them after she gets back to

Bethlehem, she said, I went out full and the Lord hath brought

me home again empty, seeing the Lord had testified against me

and the Almighty hath afflicted me.

So Noah, Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabite is her

daughter-in-law with her, which returned out of the country of

Moab, and they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barley

harvest. Heavenly Father, I thank you for

your word. Oh, Lord, I thank you for the

Spirit that I feel in this place.

God, thank you for what you've already done today, tonight,

even in this service. Lord.

Now I ask you, Lord Jesus, that you would move upon us and let

us, God, Hallelujah. Let us bring this message forth,

God, as you anointed it. Oh Lord, let me minister God to

people tonight, to your people, Lord, to encourage, to

strengthen, Lord, to awaken us, God, Hallelujah to a new day,

God, in Jesus name, Amen and Amen.

And you can be seated. Let me get rid of this coach,

yo. For a little while tonight I

want to preach on this subject. When emptiness brings the

blessing. When emptiness brings the

blessing. Elimelech with his wife Naomi

and his two sons, left Bethlehem.

Judea, the Bible says to sojourn in the country of Mohab.

The Bible says in verse 2 they continued there somebody shout

mistake. I want to say right now, you

know that we have heard this said down through life.

The grass is always greener on the other side.

But I want to tell you, even though it looks good, it has to

be mowed. There's still work to do.

Hallelujah. And there are some keys in these

first 2 verses that tell us a lot about this journey and gives

us a clue of how it might turn out.

And I want to deal with that a little bit because names meant

something back in that day and I want to bring that to you.

Elimelech means my God is king. Naomi means gracious or

sweetness. Mahone means weekly.

Shillian means pining or wasting.

Bethlehem means House of bread. To sojourn means turn aside from

the regular road and find a lodging place as a guest.

Moab means wash pot. And when we look at just those

few words, we kind of get a glimpse of what's going on.

And then the word continued comes in there and continued.

It said they continued there. You know, it's extending without

interruption. It wasn't a one night fling, if

you please, but they stayed for 10 years.

Glory. And I began and I don't know

this, this didn't come to me till this afternoon.

But as I was here this afternoon and praying and seeking God, I

began to think about a sojourner, you know, and I, I

began to think about where they were at, you know, and where

they were, where the, where they'd come from and where they

were going to. They were coming from a godly

heritage, from the House of bread, you know, where they was

used to plenty. But because of their sins,

because the Midianites had had wiped them out, so to speak,

they adhered and took their crops and this and that and

because of that. And God had pronounced upon

Israel on Judah A famine. Amen, if you please, on his own

people. Yet here we have Elimelech and

Naomi, and they're looking across the way and they see

there's green grass, They see that there is pasture.

So I don't know about you, but I kind of think that if we're not

careful, we get our eyes on things and we begin to look and

think it looks better on the other side.

But when we get there now, I don't know about you, but I'm

going to, I'm going to tell you tonight.

I began to think about this thing and and I don't know, but

if I was a sojourner, this is the kind of thing I'd have

because I've not come to stay there.

Come on. I don't care if you've come just

for a visit. Maybe they come to feed their

flock. You know, Hey, he was a rich

man. If you study history, you find

out that Elimelech was a rich man.

Boaz was in his in his genealogy.

So, you know, he was Amen. He was a rich man.

And he left a place of riches and goes to some place where

there's Pagan gods. Come on.

I I don't know about you, but I don't want to go some place

where there's no truth. I don't want to go someplace

where I can't find God. Come on.

I I want, I want to go to a place where it's real.

I want to go to a place where there's plenty.

You know, they can be plenty. Amen.

They can be plenty in Moab and still not have God.

So if they ain't got God, they ain't got everything.

Come on. In fact, they're on starvation

if they haven't got God because their luck can run out just

every day. But I'm going to tell you

tonight, I am going to give me a tent because I'm a sojourner.

I'm hoping tonight you're a sojourner, 'cause I'm, I'm not

going to go to Moab and I'm not planning on staying there.

Remember, if I go to Moab, I'm just passing through.

If I go to Moab, it isn't a set up housekeeping, but I'm going

to tell you that's what they done.

They they might have went there maybe just to get the cattle to

graze a few days. The sheep, whatever flock they

had, they might have come along and thought I'll stay here a few

days and I'll go back home. Abraham done that couple times.

I'm going to tell you it's not good to stay where the foreign

gods are. I want to be where the real God

is. Hallelujah, Yo.

I feel like that Elimelech was maybe kind of looking over

Yonder and saying, you know, that looks good.

I'm going to tell you what the world will find something to

make it look good. You ever watch the commercials

that come on TV? That's about all I see is the

commercial and the and the news and after that it's off.

But but if you ever notice the commercials, they'll they'll

always show booze and this and that and they make it look like

they're all having fun and and all of that.

But what it is, they've drank their self to death and they

don't know what they're doing. They're happy because they they

don't know any what the word they're at.

They don't even have any clue how much they've drank.

Come on, Hallelujah. But you can if you're not, if

you're not careful, you can look at something long enough till it

looks like it's appetizing. Come on, it looks good.

But when you get there, it's not, it's not what you expected.

And, and here we are. This family goes to Moab.

It's a sad thing when you leave with a blessing full and come

back with just the clothes on your back empty.

Come on. They left rich and came back

poor. Now you tell me what happened to

all the things. Glory Hallelujah.

I don't know what happened. They they don't give us no

history. We don't have no way of knowing.

But something happened to the riches.

I don't know if they got involved and gambled it away.

I don't know if they got involved in drinking and

drinking it away. Come on.

I don't know what they was wrapped up in, but they was

wrapped in something that took away the riches.

When you get out of the will of God, watch out.

When you step out of Bethlehem, honey, watch out because you're

about to get in trouble. When you step out of Bethlehem,

where there's plenty, it's a House of bread.

And you step into a wash pot, watch it.

I don't know about you, but when I think of a wash pot, I've seen

them as I've grown up, you know, and you, you, you, you, you take

one of those pans and more wash pots and and you wash in that a

few times and you know, everybody washes in it.

Watch out. And the next thing you know, you

got a old dirty ring around it. Oh, I see some of you tell right

away, you know, you didn't live in the old days, you know, you

know that that's when you was poor people.

There wasn't inside bathrooms, you know, but short knows what

I'm talking about. Didn't have them inside

bathrooms. And remember those old #2 and #3

tubs, You know, Mama put that tub out there in the front yard

and she'd set it on that concrete porch out in the front,

and she'd leave it there all day.

And the sun, it'd warm up. I'm all I know this is going to

get. Yeah.

And this thing just quit going off and go ahead.

But I remember, you know, and I always wanted to be first, take

a bath because there's going to be two others after me.

Come on now. I'm talking you.

Hey, hey, we're hey. We're talking about a wash pot

here. We're talking about a place that

I if I could, if I could even. I don't know how you describe

Moab. Evidently it was every place.

You look trashy. Come on, it's one of them run

down cities. Evidently it was like a wash

pot. It was unclean.

Come on, not only unclean in cleanliness, but it was unclean

according to Scripture. Come on, they, they believed in

throwing their kids through in the fire.

They believe in in giving, you know, sacrifices, live

sacrifices. Your children, they sacrificed

it. Come on.

I'm talking about a wash pot. They were filthy when it come to

God. They didn't look as man like we

do Come on, Hallelujah. It was a filthy place to be.

Hallelujah, Hallelujah. And the sad thing, this was a

time now that that you know, in this, in this day and hour.

Then the the wives obeyed the husband.

It was just it was a culture. It was a culture thing, you

know, and sometimes people have to become empty before they're

ready to come home. You get so wrapped up in

something that you like it so well that it's no longer a tent.

But you now dig you a well. And if you're not careful, the

next thing you're setting up housekeeping.

You know why? Because you've become entangled

with some friends. Now you got comfortable in the

state that you're in. Oh, Hallelujah.

Come on, you can get comfortable and be in sin because there is

pleasure in sin, but it only lasts for a season.

Come on, You can like what you're doing, and it can be fun

for a little while. But I'm going to tell you the

fun runs out. And usually, if you stay long

enough to get into that fun, you're getting into some other

things that takes you farther away from Bethlehem.

In fact, you get so far away that you're not sure.

I really believe that Naomi had got so far from Bethlehem that

she wasn't sure she could make it back.

The only, the only way that she can make it back is is after her

husband died and after she lost her two boys.

See, because I, they married, they married wives over there.

They've got so comfortable now that the whole family is

entangled within the wash pot. Be careful of the road that you

take your family down. You might end up with them and

you in the wash pot. Thank God for a mother named

Naomi that held on to Bethlehem. I can almost see her looking

back toward Bethlehem. Maybe when she said her morning

prayers she knelt down toward Bethlehem and praying toward

Bethlehem. Oh, I've lost, I've lost my

husband. I've lost my two sons.

All of Ghazi's daughter lost. Thank God for daughter.

I got the best daughter-in-law that anybody could have.

She's Yeah, she's my favorite. She's just like one of our

children. That's right.

She become part of our family. And Buddy, when she come a part

of our family, she become my daughter.

She's not an in law. She's not an outlaw.

She belongs. Oh, Jesus.

Hallelujah. And I feel so comfortable with

her. Even even, you know, she's just

like, she's just like my daughter.

If I need help, I can go to Sister Don and she'll help me.

You know why? Because she's one of us.

You did a wonderful thing. It's good thing that Sister

Naomi had a couple of good daughter in law's.

Come on. They might not be in the truth.

But I'm going to tell you Naomi was walking this before him, and

one of them began to grab hope. You never know what you're doing

to people when you're walking before them.

Every day, Sister McGee and I lives in an apartment right in

back of the church. We find out more and more how

many people we're touching. They call me the Whistler.

One of them says, oh, there comes the reverend.

You know I've invited them to church and the day I left and 1

you know, lady Sister Mcgee's lady friend come she come up and

stayed all afternoon Sister McGee while I was over here

studying. She got comfortable enough now

with us that she give me info upon the day.

So would you go pay my rent for me?

She don't drive. Come on, you know what we've

built trust. Thank God for Naomi.

She was living the life before the daughter in laws and Ruth

said I begin to like who she is. There's something different

about her. She's not like all the other

mother in No, about you.

You carry 10 around, they'll get tore up.

Wind will blow it. Hey, I'm a souljourner.

You know why? Because I I'm not.

I don't know about you, but I'm not planning on staying here.

The fact I can stop right there, brother short and we can sing a

little low. This world is not my home.

I'm just a passing through. My treasures are laid up

somewhere beyond the blue. The angels beckon me from

Heaven's open door. And I can't feel at home in this

world anymore. Oh Lord, you know I have no

friend like you. If Heaven's not my home, then

Lord, what will I do? The angels beckon me from

Heaven's it's open door. And I can't feel at home in this

world anymore. I'm a sojourner.

Come on, somebody shout. I'm a sojourner.

Come on. I don't feel comfortable here.

I'm not willing to stay in this world.

There's a place better than this.

Come on, one of these days there's a trumpet going to

sound. And the dead in Christ shall

rise 1st and then wish her alive and remain shall be caught up to

meet the Lord, and so shall we ever be with him.

So I'm a sojourner because this world isn't my home.

I can almost hear Ruth or I can almost hear Naomi, she said.

Ruth, I want to tell you, daughter, we don't really belong

here. I know you grew up in this mess,

but I got something better. I've come from Bethlehem, I've

come from a House of bread. I know we came here and we got

mixed up and all of and caught up in and caught up in it and

caught up in it. You get caught up in saying.

I said you can get caught up in sin and there's some sin that

will snuff you out. There is sin that will smother

you. But I'm a sojourner, so I ain't

planning on staying here. I'm planning on moving out.

Hallelujah, Horry, Hallelujah. They was focused on on the other

side too long. They they was looking at it.

You know what, if you look at sin long enough, you'll find

something to catch your fancy. There'll be something that

you'll like. And I want to tell you

something, if you're planning on heaven revival, you better learn

how to deal with afflictions, suffering if you please.

You better learn how to suffer because real revival will empty

you out of the creature, the sinful self, and it will fill

you with himself, Jesus Christ. He will get your attention some

way and sometimes it takes longer for some than it does

others. It took ten years and I really

believe it's because she lost her family and after I don't

think she wants to stay there. You think about this a little

bit, go with me here. Why, I don't think really Naomi

wanted to stand there that stay there that whole 10 years, but

she had no say until the boys was gone too, because the men

were the men of the house. When Daddy died, the men made

the decisions. I'm going to tell you, men don't

always make the right decisions. I hate to say that, ladies, but

that's true. There's been there's been a few

times that my wife was right. Not many, but few.

But she is the boss around our house.

She ain't really. I always get the last word.

Yes. Dear God, let him do that once

in a while, you know? Amen.

So here we are. We're planning on having

revival, but we don't know how to suffer.

See, that's the problem. Israel had went through a time

where everything was good. You know, there was a lot to

eat. God is blessing them.

Everything was all right. But now comes the famine and

they've got to fend for their self because God ain't there.

Yeah, you go ahead to handle this on your own.

I'm not saying I'm quitting, but I'm saying right now, for a

period of time, you're on your own and you're going to have to

get by the best way you can. So Elimelech thought it best to

leave because he didn't want his family to suffer, but he led him

to suffering. What a sad thing.

Romans 721 through 23. I find, Paul says, I find in a

law that when I would do good, evil is present with me.

Let me tell you something. I don't care where you go and

what you're doing. You'll always find the enemy

everywhere you go. You don't have to look for him.

He's not hide behind some corner, honey.

He's walking with you. He's he's hoping he can kind of

change your path a little bit and lead you off.

Come on to the wash pot. He's wanting to take you to Moab

if you please. He wants to take you to the

Sinful Valley. Come on, He wants to take you in

where all the sexuality and all this stuff is going on.

He wants to get you blinded to self.

I said blinded to self so you can't see yourself.

And if you allow him to, he'll put you right in the midst of

the strongest, most contagious sin that there is.

Now, I know, you know, we heard this morning not one sin greater

than the other. We've heard that.

We know that. We know that that's true.

But you know what? There is some sin that's more

contagious than others. I said, yeah, you know what?

If they could just get you and get you to take one little bit

of some drug, something that's you know, addictive, a little

cocaine or a little little weed. Weed won't hurt you and they

sell it right down here on 9th St.

You know, they'll give it to you medically and recreationally.

And isn't it funny how it won't hurt you but you're not allowed

to go in there and get any medical and else you're 20 or

recreation until you're 21. How come is that because it

ain't good for you? They can call it medical, they

can call it whatever they want to.

And I'm not saying it don't have some properties to help you out

in some areas, but they need to turn that over, the doctors and

all of that and they need to leave it alone.

Our government needs to stay out of it.

Come on. What they're doing is they're

leading Mount Carmel into this sin, if you please.

We didn't used to have nothing like that Mount Carmel.

We didn't even sell alcohol on Sunday.

Now it don't matter because you can get in the grocery stores

and or every place you want. I call it Sin City.

We have, we now we've got gambling joints on every corner,

slots, slots, brother, gambling stuff almost on every corner.

Come on. And I, you know, and then

they've got this, they've got this workout place right next to

1 and I go in there and I watch them people come in and out of

there. See, they don't, they don't have

to go next door to Liquor Lake to get them something to drink.

They can get it in there. And I'm praying the Lord shut

all the liquor Lakes down. And the lake goes dry.

Come on, I said, it's a wash pot.

If we don't watch it, Mount Carmel become a watch pot.

That's why God's in revival in this church, so we can stop it.

We need angels at the four corners of this city to watch

her over and to keep it straight.

And we as the church need to be a part of that.

Oh Jesus, Hallelujah, oh Jesus. When I would do good, evils

always present with me. For I delight in the law of God

after the inward man. But I see another law in my

members warring against the law of the mind and bringing me into

captivity to the law of sin, which is in my members.

The law of sin is in my members. I was born with it.

Come on. Thank God I've been redeemed.

Glory. I'm glad I got to Bethlehem.

I'm glad I got where it's safe. It's just like the, you know,

the baseball game. You just slide into base and

they say, I'm going to tell you if you can get close to Jesus,

you're safe. Oh yeah, thank you, Jesus.

Psalms 30 and five, I got to move on.

Psalm 30 and five for his anger endureth, but a moment in his

favor is life weeping. I like this.

I love this verse because it says May weeping May.

Everybody said May weeping may endure for a night, but whether

it does or whether it don't, it's a joy comes in the morning

If I can just make it through the night.

Remember when brother Steve Wilson's son drowned Patrick?

And he was, he was going through so much.

He was him and his wife were just devastated.

And I, I won't forget, Brother Mike Wilson said.

He he come to him and he said, he said, but I need a song.

I need something to hold on to. And brother Mike Wilson wrote

him a song about morning coming. I'm going to tell you through

all the trials and all the tests and all the devastation, I'm

going to tell you, see, we're in revival.

That's why we're having all the mess.

You know why? Because the devil knows if we

ever get a well church 100% well, he's going to be in

trouble in Mount Carmel. Come on.

We going to be ushering him to the gate and kick him right out.

Come on. He hadn't got a chance.

One will put 1000 to flight 2 Will put 10,000 to flight.

That's enough. Take care of Mount Carmel.

Come on. We need to take our Dominion.

We've got Dominion here. Come.

I said we've got Dominion here. Come on.

We need to shout it. We've got Dominion here.

This is our Dominion devil. You have no business here.

Hallelujah, oh Lord, when emptiness brings the blessing,

oh Jesus, I like that blessing. Praise God, Hallelujah, glory,

Hallelujah for anger and dearth, but for a moment in his favor is

life. Weeping may endure for night,

but joy cometh in the morning. And I don't have this up there,

and I'm sorry, but I want to go to Lamentations.

Very familiar verse Lamentations 322 and 23.

It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed because his

compassion faileth not. They are new.

Everybody said new every morning.

Great is thy faithfulness. Come on, His mercies have been

so good today and yesterday and this week.

But just think about it. I can go to sleep tonight,

brother, and in the morning when I get up, my mercies are all new

again. I got another book of mercies

that when the devil comes, I can say here, take this ticket.

It's mercy. You can't touch me today, devil.

Come on. I'm figured on getting healing

today. I'm figured on this church to

get well. I'm figured on some miracles,

signs and wonders. And take place in here.

Yeah. For these signs shall follow

them. That believe in my name.

They'll cast out devils, Lay hands on the sick and they shall

recover. If they drink any deadly thing,

it won't hurt them. We need to start believing

because we're in Bethlehem. We're not in the wash pot y'all?

Hallelujah. When God set you up for a

temporary try, don't run from it, for you may run into a

bigger problem. I said when God set you up for a

temporary trial? Temporary.

Everybody said temporary. It ain't going to last forever.

There is going to be sunny is going to shine.

Yeah, the rain comes, but it ain't going to last forever.

There's going to come a day of sunshine in the church.

I'm going to tell you the trial ain't going to last forever, and

I'm going to promise you this because I preached a message on

it once and I believe it. I believe the Bible teaches it.

One thing you'll find about what happens in Bethlehem, God

always, if he get, if you get into trial, if you get in a

test, if you get in a temporary place of having trouble, God

will either remove the problem, He'll take the trial away, or

He'll go with you through it. So what I'm telling you is no

matter what kind of condition you're in, I'm going to tell

you, I'm serving a God that will stay around for the outcome.

He won't leave you in the middle of it.

I said he won't leave you in the middle of it.

He'll deliver you out of it, or he's going to stay around and

see what the outcome is. Oh, Jesus, Hallelujah.

Jesus, thank you, Lord. Thank you, Lord, Hallelujah,

Hallelujah. In the midst of your trial,

remember your mercies. They're still there.

Psalm 3419. Many are the afflictions of the

righteous, and I like this, but oh, that makes all the

difference in the world. But the Lord delivereth him out

of them all. He'll never leave you in the

midst of them. He'll deliver you out of it.

For that he was laying out there in that ditch tangle up in the

motorcycle and this and that. You probably thought, well, this

could be the end. You know what he told me?

He said, Bishop, when they got me on that helicopter, I was

praying Jesus, Jesus, God hurt him.

Look at him today. Can you believe the same night

he had that he called bro, he called me, He called Brother

Freddie. He's calling people after having

that bad accident and messing up a leg and wrist and the neck

and. I don't know.

Yeah, another ankle. Yeah.

Here he is, though. Today.

He's still here. I'm going to tell you, Brother

Pat. I want to tell you.

I know you wandered out there in Moab a little bit.

Still got a little oven hanging on.

I ain't brought my Clippers yet. I'll get rid of that, too.

You know what the problem was? He got to looking at it real

plain and he bought him a Harley and thought he need to look like

a Harley rider. But we're going to take care of

that. We've got Clippers.

He might be bald headed and I get through, but at least he'll

he's going straighten up because I'll keep after him till he

does. Oh good Glory, I love you.

I love you, Brother Pat, but I'm not going to let up Glory,

Hallelujah. I want to take you.

I want to take some place in the Bible so you understand what I'm

talking about tonight, that when emptiness brings the blessing,

David numbers Israel. Remember that story?

Second Psalm of 24 and 10. And David's heart smote him

after that. He had numbered the people.

And David said unto the Lord, I have sinned greatly in that I

have done. And now I beseech thee, O Lord,

take away the iniquity of thy servant, for I have done very

foolishly. So he sins.

Second Samuel 24 down to verse 13 through 15.

So Gad came to Dave and told him, and said to him, Shall

seven years of famine come up on thee on thy land, or will thou

flee 3 months before thine enemies while they pursue thee,

or that there be 3 days of pestilence in the land?

Now advise me, see what answer I shall return, and to him that

sent me. And David said, And to Gad, I am

in a great straight, Let us fall now in the hand of the Lord, for

his mercies are His mercies are great, His mercies are great,

and let me not fall in the hand of men.

So the Lord sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning

even until the time appointed, and there died of the people

from Dan, even to Beresheba 70,000 men.

If you start counting men, and God don't want you to, you ain't

going to have near as many when he gets through.

You know why? Because God can do more with

less. It's been proven time after

time, all the way through the Bible, all the way through

Hallelujah, Hallelujah Jesus. Isn't it amazing that the Lord

brought Naomi back home and Ruth 122 in the beginning of barley

harvest in the time of first fruits?
