Brother Jim: A man who loves the Lord loves people and occasionally forgets

David: I'm right smack dab in the middle of jury duty week.

David: And at the point of recording this.

David: I don't know if I've had to serve yet or not, but jury.

Brother Jim: Duty. Have any of our fine folks had to do jury duty?

Brother Jim: Maybe you've got it a good experience.

Brother Jim: Let us know.

David: Yeah, well, one week down, one week to go.

David: So we'll we'll see.

Brother Jim: But I told my friend David here

Brother Jim: I got to play the pastor card

Brother Jim: I try not to hardly ever abuse my power power, but I wrote a

Brother Jim: very convincing letter to the magistrate saying, hey, look,

Brother Jim: you know, I'm on call twenty four seven, which is true.

Brother Jim: Yeah.

Brother Jim: I did not stretch the truth, but

Brother Jim: yes, I got a a veto there and

Brother Jim: passed.

Brother Jim: All right.

Brother Jim: You're good to go.

David: Very nice.

Brother Jim: So yes.

Brother Jim: But I think it would be interesting.

Brother Jim: Yeah it would be.

David: It's one of those things that um

David: you know, it's it's

David: inconvenient.

David: You don't really want to do because it messes everything up.

David: I'm trying to schedule things.

David: I can't schedule anything because I don't know from one

David: day to the next if I'm going to have to go or not.

David: So it's really messing up my day

David: to day operations, but I think

David: it's important.

David: the only system in the world

David: where you are innocent until

David: proven guilty everywhere else in

Brother Jim: Hardest prisons, toughest prisons in the world.

Brother Jim: We think our court system is backlogged.

Brother Jim: And if the family doesn't show up, it's pretty slim pickings.

Brother Jim: Let's just say personal hygiene.

Brother Jim: Yeah, it makes porta potties

Brother Jim: look like, uh, something out of

Brother Jim: a palace.

Brother Jim: So yes.

Brother Jim: Uh, but yeah, like you said,

Brother Jim: it's part of our duty of being

Brother Jim: an American.

Brother Jim: Yep.

Brother Jim: And whether we agree with it or not, sometimes you know it.

Brother Jim: It's what we have.

Brother Jim: Any big plans for the weekend?

David: No, not that I know of.

David: But I did recently open a business I've started.

David: I can't even get through it.

David: I've started a business where I'm selling trampolines

David: disguised as prayer mats.

David: And let me tell you, profits are going through the roof.

Brother Jim: Uh, you know, we just got a trampoline.

Brother Jim: Did you might have to try to have Ellie record me on one.

Brother Jim: There we go.

Brother Jim: We'll see how high I can go.

David: That'd be worth the price of admission.

Brother Jim: Yes. Uh, I do meet the weight qualifications, but that's good

Brother Jim: that, uh, stepping out on faith, if you will.

Brother Jim: And it might be one bounce and it's all over, so.

Brother Jim: Yep.

Brother Jim: Yes.

Brother Jim: Uh, yeah.

Brother Jim: Not a whole lot going on here.

Brother Jim: Did you barbecue anything, or do you have plans to barbecue?

David: I do, I just got my backup propane tank replaced.

David: I was down to one, and it was about half empty.

David: So last weekend I got that swapped out and.

David: Yeah, I'm.

David: I'm ready to go.

David: We can't we can't be in the middle of using the Blackstone

David: and run out of propane.

David: That's not good.

Brother Jim: So I've got about I've got five cans now.

David: You'll be set for a little bit.

Brother Jim: Yeah. Well I use it a lot to burn the grass and I. Of course

Brother Jim: you can't burn right now.

Brother Jim: It's so wet.

Brother Jim: Yeah.

Brother Jim: But yeah but no, I, yes, I, I keep the nicest one for the

Brother Jim: grill, you know.

Brother Jim: Yeah, yeah.

David: I probably shouldn't advertise

David: Oh, by all means, please go visit gemstone.

David: But Walmart's got a blue Rhino

David: machine twenty four over seven,

David: and you can if you want to go

David: three in the morning, you can go

David: and you just outside the door

David: pops open.

David: You stick your can in, another

David: door pops open, you take a new

David: one out.

David: So I'm lazy.

David: That's the way I do it.

Brother Jim: But well, if I only had one or two, that would be me.

Brother Jim: Yeah, but you know, I like to keep them there just in case,

Brother Jim: you know, because a lot of burning to do a lot of burning.

Brother Jim: That's right.

Brother Jim: Especially now with all the weeds coming back.

Brother Jim: So yes.

Brother Jim: Um, yeah.

Brother Jim: Now just hoping we got a, it's supposed to have a nice dry

Brother Jim: spell coming up here.

Brother Jim: It's just, you know, when it's raining you don't want to do.

Brother Jim: Did you have a great Memorial Day weekend?

Brother Jim: Family time.

Brother Jim: How about some church sleeping in like it's a spiritual gift?

Brother Jim: You know, there is nothing like sleeping in.

Brother Jim: Sometimes you just need it.

Brother Jim: Especially with the rain coming down and everything.

Brother Jim: You got the gloomy and before you know it, you know, you're

Brother Jim: starting to drift off.

Brother Jim: So. Or you're just trying to survive until Monday.

Brother Jim: Whatever it is, we hope it is

Brother Jim: filled with peace, laughter, and

Brother Jim: a little bit of joy because

Brother Jim: weekends may come and go, but

Brother Jim: God's goodness does not take a

Brother Jim: day off.

Brother Jim: And how true that is.

Brother Jim: Alrighty then.

Brother Jim: A week has almost come to an end, friends.

Brother Jim: So let me ask you this morning.

Brother Jim: What have you done to make a difference in God's kingdom?

Brother Jim: Not just what you accomplished.

Brother Jim: Not off your honeydew list, not just what you survive, but how

Brother Jim: did you shine for Jesus in the middle of all of it?

Brother Jim: The weekend is almost here, so you still got time, so go ahead.

Brother Jim: Take a deep breath.

Brother Jim: Stretch those shoulders, man, that even hurts.

Brother Jim: Stretch those shoulders.

Brother Jim: Maybe even crack that smile.

Brother Jim: Come on.

Brother Jim: Here we go.

Brother Jim: That you've been hiding since Monday.

Brother Jim: Because now it is time to settle up.

Brother Jim: No. We only have canned dry goods.

Brother Jim: Responded to Clark.

Brother Jim: The next day the.

Brother Jim: The duck returns.

Brother Jim: Got any fresh fruit?

Brother Jim: No. Got any fresh vegetables?

Brother Jim: No. Said the Clark.

Brother Jim: I told you yesterday we have only canned and dry goods.

Brother Jim: If you come back tomorrow and ask me the same question.

Brother Jim: I'm going to douse you in cream on the third day.

Brother Jim: The.

Brother Jim: The duck walks in and asks, got any cream?

Brother Jim: No. Got any fresh fruit?

Brother Jim: Not the greatest, but I thought it was funny.

Brother Jim: Today's thought why people choose God.

Brother Jim: Now we're switching from hell to heaven.

Brother Jim: Uh, we've been a couple of weeks here on hell.

Brother Jim: Realities of hell.

Brother Jim: But how about why do why why do you.

Brother Jim: Why do people choose God?

Brother Jim: Why do people choose God?

Brother Jim: David.

Brother Jim: I'll put you on the spot there.

David: I think it's a variety of reasons.

David: I think, uh, I think some people

David: choose them because like I said,

David: like we said previously, fire

David: insurance, right?

David: Well, you know, I make sure that doesn't work mind you, but I

David: think people choose God because they believe that there's

David: something greater than them.

David: I think that they believe that there is life after this life.

David: And, and they want to be prepared and they don't want to

David: face the consequences.

Brother Jim: Right. Good answer.

Brother Jim: You hit it on the head.

Brother Jim: Is it just for fire insurance?

Brother Jim: Is it just to cover my, my butt versus serving God?

Brother Jim: Right.

Brother Jim: And I think that's the defining moment in anyone's life.

Brother Jim: A Christian who finally figures it out.

Brother Jim: I'm here to serve.

Brother Jim: It's not about here I am, I'm all safe.

Brother Jim: I got my bags packed, waiting.

Brother Jim: Yeah, it is.

Brother Jim: To serve.

Brother Jim: Heaven is not earned by perfection, but received through

Brother Jim: faith in Christ.

Brother Jim: Now we're going to be looking at

Brother Jim: Joshua twenty four fifteen, but

Brother Jim: ask me, but ask for me and my

Brother Jim: house.

Brother Jim: We will serve the Lord.

Brother Jim: Now I've seen that posted on

Brother Jim: many people's homes and you

Brother Jim: can't.

Brother Jim: Are you now if you put it above

Brother Jim: your house, you're declaring it,

Brother Jim: right?

David: Yeah.

Brother Jim: You know, out there on the porch

Brother Jim: or in front of your over your

Brother Jim: door.

Brother Jim: Are you really doing that, though?

Brother Jim: Is your house really serving the Lord?

Brother Jim: Every day people make choices.

Brother Jim: We all have choices.

Brother Jim: Some choices are small.

Brother Jim: Others shape the entire direction of our life.

Brother Jim: True.

Brother Jim: One of the greatest decisions anyone will ever make is whether

Brother Jim: they will choose to follow God.

Brother Jim: Some people wonder, why do people choose God?

Brother Jim: What draws someone to Christ?

Brother Jim: Why would anyone surrender their life to him?

Brother Jim: The answer is actually quite simple.

Brother Jim: People choose God because nothing else in this world can

Brother Jim: truly satisfy the deepest needs of the human heart.

Brother Jim: How many people out there today don't have hope?

David: A whole lot, a whole lot.

Brother Jim: People are struggling just to get by day to day, right?

David: That's right.

Brother Jim: Now we are great at trying to supplement.

Brother Jim: Supplement.

Brother Jim: Instead of turning to God, we try to do it our own way.

Brother Jim: Right?

Brother Jim: Yeah.

Brother Jim: Variety of ways.

Brother Jim: We try to make life better.

Brother Jim: To ease the pain.

Brother Jim: To forget the hurt.

Brother Jim: To just get through the day.

Brother Jim: But.

Brother Jim: If we really get serious.

Brother Jim: There are some serious deep

Brother Jim: secrets in people's hearts,

Brother Jim: right?

Brother Jim: We all have them.

Brother Jim: Think about that, my friends.

Brother Jim: What's in your heart today?

Brother Jim: Is there something deep down

Brother Jim: that you don't want anybody else

Brother Jim: to know about you're struggling

Brother Jim: with?

Brother Jim: You're looking for satisfied, satis to be satisfied.

Brother Jim: You're looking for the pain to go away.

Brother Jim: You're looking for something greater.

Brother Jim: You're looking for peace, for hope.

Brother Jim: People choose God because they need hope.

Brother Jim: This world can leave people discouraged, broken, and

Brother Jim: searching for meaning.

Brother Jim: Oh, amen to that.

Brother Jim: People chase in today's culture especially.

Brother Jim: But even back then money,

Brother Jim: popularity, success,

Brother Jim: relationships, pleasure.

Brother Jim: Yet many still feel empty inside.

Brother Jim: Is that true, David?

David: Yeah, absolutely.

Brother Jim: Yes. It's like a candy bar.

Brother Jim: It looks good, it smells good, it tastes good.

Brother Jim: But does it do really anything for us on the inside?

David: Gives us diabetes.

David: That's about it.

Brother Jim: Diabetes?

Brother Jim: Yeah. Pretty much.

Brother Jim: It's a quick fix.

Brother Jim: Yeah, a quick fix.

Brother Jim: Are we not, as Americans,

Brother Jim: especially great at quick fixes,

Brother Jim: right.

Brother Jim: Yep.

Brother Jim: I mean, look at good old duct tape and baler twine and little

Brother Jim: WD forty and a crescent wrench.

Brother Jim: You can fix.

Brother Jim: Well, you used to be able to fix about anything.

Brother Jim: Yes.

Brother Jim: You still feel empty inside.

Brother Jim: How about you, friends?

Brother Jim: Have you turned to different alternatives and you still come

Brother Jim: up feeling empty?

Brother Jim: Jesus offers something the world cannot give.

Brother Jim: He offers true hope.

Brother Jim: When life falls apart, God remains faithful.

Brother Jim: When people feel alone, God promises his presence.

Brother Jim: When people fail, God offers grace and forgiveness.

Brother Jim: Psalms forty six one says, God is our refuge and strength, a

Brother Jim: very present help in trouble.

Brother Jim: Many people come to God after discovering that the world's

Brother Jim: promises never truly satisfy.

Brother Jim: True, you've tried them all.

Brother Jim: Yep.

Brother Jim: You're down at the bottom of the barrel.

Brother Jim: You're just looking for a string to grab on to.

Brother Jim: And there it is.

Brother Jim: But God offers you more than a string he offers.

Brother Jim: He gave his Son Jesus Christ for us.

Brother Jim: People choose God because they need forgiveness.

Brother Jim: Every person has sinned.

Brother Jim: Every person has regrets, mistakes, and failures.

Brother Jim: Yes, even me.

Brother Jim: People may try to hide guilt or ignore it, but only God can

Brother Jim: truly cleanse the heart.

Brother Jim: Do you ever get your hands dirty, David?

David: Yep.

Brother Jim: Takes a couple days to get rid of it.

David: Yep.

Brother Jim: Yeah. Some things you stain a shirt.

Brother Jim: It's never coming out, right?

Brother Jim: Nope.

Brother Jim: Same with our lives.

Brother Jim: There are some things we think the stain will never come out.

Brother Jim: No matter.

Brother Jim: We've done something so atrocious, so bad.

Brother Jim: But Jesus can forgive.

Brother Jim: And he will forgive if you turn to him through Jesus.

Brother Jim: Sins can be forgiven.

Brother Jim: Shame can be removed.

Brother Jim: Lives can be changed.

Brother Jim: That is why the gospel is called good news.

Brother Jim: Not bad news.

Brother Jim: Good news.

Brother Jim: No matter what someone has done, God's mercy is greater.

Brother Jim: People choose God because they discover his love.

Brother Jim: The greatest picture of God's love is in the cross.

Brother Jim: John three sixteen reminds us, For God so loved the world that

Brother Jim: he gave his only begotten son.

Brother Jim: Jesus willingly gave his life.

Brother Jim: So humanity that includes you and I could be saved.

Brother Jim: People may be rejected by the world, abandoned by others, or

Brother Jim: misunderstood by society.

Brother Jim: But God's love remains steady and faithful.

Brother Jim: When someone truly understands

Brother Jim: the love of Christ, it changes

Brother Jim: them.

Brother Jim: People choose God because they realize life is just temporary.

Brother Jim: Thank God for that.

Brother Jim: Yeah, because I wouldn't want to go through eternity with this.

Brother Jim: The Bible reminds us that life

Brother Jim: is like a vapor here today and

Brother Jim: gone tomorrow.

Brother Jim: At some point, people begin

Brother Jim: asking deeper questions why am I

Brother Jim: here?

Brother Jim: What happens after death?

Brother Jim: What truly matters?

Brother Jim: Earthly things fade away.

Brother Jim: But God's kingdom is eternal.

Brother Jim: Choosing God is not just about this life, it is about eternity.

Brother Jim: People choose God because he changes lives.

Brother Jim: And yes, he does.

Brother Jim: One encounter with Jesus can transform a person forever.

Brother Jim: The angry.

Brother Jim: They can find peace.

Brother Jim: You can find peace.

Brother Jim: The addicted.

Brother Jim: You can find freedom.

Brother Jim: The hopeless can find joy.

Brother Jim: And a reason to.

Brother Jim: To be here, to exist.

Brother Jim: The broken can find healing through Scripture.

Brother Jim: Jesus changes ordinary people.

Brother Jim: He changed them.

Brother Jim: Fishermen became disciples.

Brother Jim: A persecutor named Saul became the Apostle Paul.

Brother Jim: Broken sinners became testimonies of grace and he.

Brother Jim: Here is the great thing.

Brother Jim: He's still changing lives today.

Brother Jim: Imagine being lost in complete darkness with no direction.

Brother Jim: Suddenly someone shines a light and says, follow me and I will

Brother Jim: lead you home.

Brother Jim: And that is exactly what Jesus does.

Brother Jim: But how many times do we want to stumble around in the dark more?

David: Yep.

Brother Jim: Are you ever run into the wall?

Brother Jim: Doesn't feel good.

Brother Jim: You ever trip over something?

David: Oh, yeah.

Brother Jim: That's our life.

Brother Jim: We're bumbling and fumbling through the darkness until if

Brother Jim: we're willing to say, hey, Lord, I need you.

Brother Jim: I need that light.

Brother Jim: And I will follow you home again.

Brother Jim: That is what Jesus does.

Brother Jim: People choose God because he is the light in a dark world.

Brother Jim: Jesus said in John eighteen

Brother Jim: twelve, I am the light of the

Brother Jim: world.

Brother Jim: Whoever follows me shall not walk in darkness, but have the

Brother Jim: light of life.

Brother Jim: So here's a challenge for you.

Brother Jim: Joshua told the people, choose for yourself this day from whom

Brother Jim: you will serve.

Brother Jim: You get to make the choice, not because David and brother Jim

Brother Jim: says so you get to to make the decision to serve.

Brother Jim: And at the end of the day, every person will become.

Brother Jim: They will stand accountable for who what choice they made.

Brother Jim: Did they choose the temporary things of the world, or did they

Brother Jim: choose eternal promise, the eternal promise of God.

Brother Jim: God does not force anyone to follow him, but he lovingly

Brother Jim: invites every person into a relationship with him.

Brother Jim: Let us pray.

Brother Jim: Lord, thank you for loving us, forgiving us, and giving us hope

Brother Jim: through Jesus Christ.

Brother Jim: Help us choose you daily and trust you with our lives.

Brother Jim: Open hearts to your truth and remind us that only you, only

Brother Jim: you can truly satisfy the soul.

Brother Jim: In Jesus name we pray.

David: Just the you know, life is hard, right?

David: We all face struggles.

David: We all have problems.

David: I don't know how people manage to get through it without Jesus.

David: I mean, you can you can drink

David: all the alcohol and do all the

David: drugs and everything you want,

David: but at the end of the day, when

David: that stuff all wears off, you're

David: either dead or your problems are

David: still there.

Brother Jim: Yeah, well, like I said, you can do it.

Brother Jim: You can choose.

Brother Jim: But it's a miserable existence.

Brother Jim: Now, some will say, Jim, my life's great.

Brother Jim: Maybe so, maybe so.

Brother Jim: But again, what about your eternity?

Brother Jim: Yep.

Brother Jim: There's no there's no take backs.

Brother Jim: Yeah.

Brother Jim: There's no second chances.

David: Maybe you just think your life is great too.

David: You don't you don't know how much greater it could be with

David: Jesus in your life.

Brother Jim: And that comes to the whole thing of heaven, David.

Brother Jim: We we have Scripture.

Brother Jim: We have our own imaginations of what heaven will be like.

Brother Jim: And I, I don't think anyone can possibly truly understand.

Brother Jim: Yeah, what heaven will be like.

Brother Jim: Yep.

Brother Jim: What do you got to lose?

Brother Jim: Because as we've discussed,

Brother Jim: hell, you got a lot to lose

Brother Jim: there, right?

Brother Jim: You got a lot to lose.

Brother Jim: And the biggest thing is the absence of God.

Brother Jim: Well, before we go, please remember this.

Brother Jim: You.

Brother Jim: Yes, you have meaning.

Brother Jim: You have value.

Brother Jim: And most of all, you are loved.

Brother Jim: Never forget that God created you with purpose, and this world

Brother Jim: is a better place because you are in it.

Brother Jim: May God continue to bless you, guide you, strengthen you, and

Brother Jim: walk beside you through every moment of this day, through the

Brother Jim: valleys, the darkness, and in the joyful moments as well.

Brother Jim: And may you and I continue to thank our Lord above for the

Brother Jim: blessings we often so take for granted each and every day.

Brother Jim: So wherever life takes you

Brother Jim: believing, keep loving, and keep

Brother Jim: trusting God.
