Brother Jim: Oh, we can't wait to see what

Brother Jim: the families have planned for

Brother Jim: us.

Brother Jim: Shout out to all you dads!

Brother Jim: Isn't it funny, David, even though we're going before your

Brother Jim: intro, how are days get planned for us father's Day?

Brother Jim: Yes, yes it is.

Brother Jim: Yeah.

Brother Jim: There's never or you know, you get the question what do you

Brother Jim: And usually the response is nothing.

Brother Jim: Yep.

Brother Jim: So again, even on Father's Day, men don't even have a choice.

Brother Jim: Let us thank God for another day that we are blessed to be alive.

Brother Jim: Yes, we are blessed.

Brother Jim: But before we come to invest it, it is time to bring in the best

David: It's good.

David: You know, my I was talking to my neighbor the other day and she's

David: got one of those, you know, those things you sit on and they

David: take you up the stairs and you go those stair lift things.

David: And I, I, I offered her twenty

David: bucks to, to give me a ride on,

David: on that.

David: I think she's going to take me up on it again.

Brother Jim: Not the best color commentator

Brother Jim: in the league for nothing,

Brother Jim: folks.

Brother Jim: Yes, a jokester among jokesters.

Brother Jim: Uh. Unfortunately, I've never been allowed to ride is I'm over

Brother Jim: the weight limits, so.

David: I probably am to really.

Brother Jim: So, uh, now I know you got the

Brother Jim: dirty monster jam coming up, and

Brother Jim: from what you said, you've got

Brother Jim: VIP passes.

David: We do, we do.

David: We've got pit passes.

David: The boys will get to go down and, uh, go where the trucks are

David: before it starts.

David: We're going to be there, I think.

David: I think we get access at twelve thirty.

David: That goes till like three or

David: three thirty, and then the

David: actual show doesn't start until

David: five, and I think it goes till

David: eight.

David: I'm going to be there all day long.

Brother Jim: Yes, that is going to be a long day.

David: That's how I'm going to spend my day before Father's Day.

Brother Jim: If this happens.

Brother Jim: Yes. If you can get an autograph from one of the drivers, put it

Brother Jim: on your forehead, have them autograph that little Ricky

Brother Jim: Bobby going on and take a picture of yourself so we can

Brother Jim: see from pit pass.

David: David, from what I understand

David: the line, because this this is a

David: whole production.

David: Like the whole thing is about making money, right?

David: It's not about entertaining kids.

David: So they've got they've got pit passes and then they've got

David: early access pit passes.

David: Those folks get to get in an hour early.

David: And from what I understand, the

David: lines to get autographs are a

David: mile long.

David: So I think we're just going to be happy if we can get pictures

David: close to the trucks.

David: And I think the boys will be happy with that.

Brother Jim: Well, here we go.

Brother Jim: Oh, but do you have any plans for Father's Day?

David: I don't that I know of.

David: Um, I just, uh, I, I'm kind of

David: fortunate because my boys are

David: still young.

David: They don't really plan much for me.

Brother Jim: You are in a good spot right now.

David: So my day should hopefully be pretty low key.

Brother Jim: So yes, I was informed this is what we're doing.

David: Yeah.

Brother Jim: Nice. Nice. Yes. Just makes me happy, happy happy happy.

Brother Jim: But I am blessed, you know, to have four beautiful daughters,

Brother Jim: grandson and a granddaughter to hang out with.

Brother Jim: So hopefully, you know, through all the chaos because this is

Brother Jim: going to be our first mixed family Father's Day.

David: Oh, nice.

Brother Jim: So yeah, you got all kinds of people coming in on this one.

Brother Jim: Yeah.

Brother Jim: So yeah, I'll find a nice quiet spot and just observe.

Brother Jim: There you go.

David: Dad. Go. I don't know where he is.

Brother Jim: Yeah, he's way up in the hill there.

Brother Jim: Yeah.

Brother Jim: We're going to Tuscarora Park.

David: Oh, jeez.

Brother Jim: Yeah. Yeah. Well, you did mention there, uh.

David: New playground.

Brother Jim: And everything. Yeah. So I'm going to try that out.

David: I think it'll hold you.

David: It'll hold me so it'll hold you.

Brother Jim: Funny thing, uh, we took, uh, my

Brother Jim: daughter and son in law, along

Brother Jim: with the grandkids, to Akron Zoo

Brother Jim: today.

Brother Jim: And, uh, Dawson, I mean, he just all over the place.

Brother Jim: He's having a blast.

Brother Jim: And they have this little thing

Brother Jim: with a slide, and so I went up

Brother Jim: with him.

Brother Jim: You know, I, of course, I sat on a bench for a few rested up.

Brother Jim: It's like, all right, Jim, you can do this, you can do this,

Brother Jim: you got this.

Brother Jim: So I go up with him and of course, they got those little

Brother Jim: things above where you can grab hold of, you know, and he does

Brother Jim: that and flies out.

Brother Jim: I'm like, oh, like, don't worry.

Brother Jim: He does it all the time, dad.

Brother Jim: Like, okay, well then he gets

Brother Jim: down there and he's like, Padre,

Brother Jim: you.

Brother Jim: That's what he calls me.

Brother Jim: I'm el Padre.

Brother Jim: He's like, Padre, come down with me.

Brother Jim: I'm like, buddy, I don't think that slide will hold me.

Brother Jim: And then I'm looking around Dave

Brother Jim: and I'm like, this is pretty

Brother Jim: good construction.

Brother Jim: Yeah.

David: So give it a shot.

Brother Jim: Let's just say it took me a little bit of time to get

Brother Jim: through the little hole.

Brother Jim: But there I was in all my beauty.

Brother Jim: There you go.

Brother Jim: And I got stuck halfway down because.

David: Now the big question is, is there video footage of this?

Brother Jim: Kerry's got some pictures.

Brother Jim: I will see if she can get them

Brother Jim: to you and we will put them on

Brother Jim: there.

Brother Jim: But no. What a great time and again.

Brother Jim: And it was so cool because he is he's a hunter already.

Brother Jim: And him and I hopped on a train.

Brother Jim: They got that little train up

Brother Jim: there and they got all them

Brother Jim: dinosaurs.

Brother Jim: Yeah.

Brother Jim: So folks, uh, if you ever, uh, shout out to Akron Zoo, it's a

Brother Jim: very nice place.

Brother Jim: It's not huge.

Brother Jim: It's just.

Brother Jim: Right.

Brother Jim: But you can pay extra, of course, and get on this little

Brother Jim: train and takes you around.

Brother Jim: They got all these animated

Brother Jim: dinosaurs, which are pretty

Brother Jim: cool.

Brother Jim: And Dawson, he's the one.

Brother Jim: He he's he loves guns, loves hunting and everything.

Brother Jim: Yeah.

Brother Jim: I'm like, all right, we're going to shoot these dinosaurs.

Brother Jim: So we make the little circle and

Brother Jim: there's five nasty looking

Brother Jim: dinosaurs.

Brother Jim: They did a did a pretty good job and all is quiet.

Brother Jim: He goes bang.

Brother Jim: And he's like, you, you dinosaurs.

Brother Jim: You stay right there.

Brother Jim: And his little authoritative voice, you stay right there.

Brother Jim: I'm like, that's my boy.

Brother Jim: Yeah.

Brother Jim: Bang.

Brother Jim: So anyway, yeah, shout out to Akron Zoo.

Brother Jim: Provided a good time.

Brother Jim: Uh, so another sunrise means another chance to shine.

Brother Jim: Another opportunity to smile.

Brother Jim: So let's get those cheek muscles

Brother Jim: working and start smiling,

Brother Jim: Humor is always a good place to start.

Brother Jim: Now Jones husband likes to sing.

Brother Jim: He decided to join the church choir.

Brother Jim: Oh, boy.

Brother Jim: From time to time, he would

Brother Jim: practice in the shower, which I

Brother Jim: get it.

Brother Jim: That's where I do all my best singing.

Brother Jim: Sure.

Brother Jim: And preaching.

Brother Jim: So he practices in the shower or

Brother Jim: getting dressed or preparing a

Brother Jim: meal.

Brother Jim: Whenever he would start on a

Brother Jim: song, Joan would head outside to

Brother Jim: the porch.

Brother Jim: Her husband, with hurt feelings, said, what's the matter, Joan?

Brother Jim: Don't you like my singing?

Brother Jim: Joan replied.

Brother Jim: Honey, I love your singing, but I just want to make sure the

Brother Jim: neighbors know that I am not beating you to death.

Brother Jim: Yes.

Brother Jim: All right.

Brother Jim: Our thought of the day children spell love t I'm e. Whew!

Brother Jim: Now, of course, we got Father's Day.

Brother Jim: By the time you get this, Father's day would have passed.

Brother Jim: But still, I want to hit out on

Brother Jim: father's shout out to the

Brother Jim: fathers.

Brother Jim: The importance of a father spending time with his children.

Brother Jim: Now, David, would you agree, sir?

Brother Jim: Time is one of the biggest challenges we face as parents,

Brother Jim: as adults, and just basically as citizens of the United States.

Brother Jim: And I'm going to guess some

Brother Jim: other places too, in the

Brother Jim: country.

David: I would say one hundred and ten percent, yes.

Brother Jim: But the greatest gift a father can give is his presence.

Brother Jim: Now, if we go to Deuteronomy six six to seven and these words

Brother Jim: which I command you to do.

Brother Jim: Excuse me.

Brother Jim: And these words which I command

Brother Jim: you today shall be in your

Brother Jim: heart.

Brother Jim: Now notice there's a command.

Brother Jim: You shall teach them diligently to your children.

Brother Jim: So we're getting some commands from God.

Brother Jim: Now, one of the greatest misconceptions in our culture is

Brother Jim: that providing for our children.

Brother Jim: And that's a hard one, David.

Brother Jim: We want to provide.

Brother Jim: We want to give them everything that we never had.

Brother Jim: Yep.

Brother Jim: It's the same as being present for our children, being present

Brother Jim: for our children.

Brother Jim: Let's start thinking about that because I probably get a big fat

Brother Jim: F on that one, unfortunately.

Brother Jim: Um, I try trying's not good enough and I'm just throwing

Brother Jim: myself under the bus.

Brother Jim: Bus?

Brother Jim: I could do a lot better.

Brother Jim: A father certainly has a

Brother Jim: responsibility to work, to

Brother Jim: provide and to care for his

Brother Jim: family.

Brother Jim: Scripture reaffirms he it affirms Scripture.

Brother Jim: Now, this is coming from God's Word, not Bible.

Brother Jim: Or Brother Jim.

Brother Jim: It affirms that responsibility.

Brother Jim: But children need more than a paycheck.

Brother Jim: They need their daddy.

Brother Jim: Many years from now, your children will probably.

Brother Jim: And I'm going to guess this.

Brother Jim: Won't even remember how many hours you worked, because I

Brother Jim: can't even remember that or how much overtime you put in.

Brother Jim: But here's the thing.

Brother Jim: They will remember this.

Brother Jim: Whether you played catch with them, whether you came to their

Brother Jim: games, whether you prayed with them, whether you listened when

Brother Jim: they needed someone being there, whether you laughed together.

Brother Jim: Oh, I can't get over that one.

Brother Jim: Enough, David, you got to laugh with your kids.

David: Absolutely.

Brother Jim: And you know what?

Brother Jim: I'm the butt of all jokes, and I don't mind being the dork out

Brother Jim: there if it.

Brother Jim: I will do anything to get a laugh out of my kids.

Brother Jim: And I mean just about anything.

Brother Jim: Whether you simply.

Brother Jim: Are you spending time together?

Brother Jim: Children so many times spell love one simple way.

Brother Jim: As I said earlier, T I'm e time.

Brother Jim: Time says you matter.

Brother Jim: You you matter.

Brother Jim: One of the greatest ways we

Brother Jim: communicate Love is not through

Brother Jim: words.

Brother Jim: It is through our calendar.

Brother Jim: Oh, how many of us live by our

Brother Jim: day planners, our calendars,

Brother Jim: reminders.

Brother Jim: Every hour we choose to spend.

Brother Jim: Tell someone what we value.

Brother Jim: When a father spends time with his children, he silently says,

Brother Jim: I enjoy being with you.

Brother Jim: You are important to me and you are worth my attention.

Brother Jim: Children do not expect perfection.

Brother Jim: But you know what?

Brother Jim: Getting back to that, children need to hear that.

Brother Jim: Children need to see it.

Brother Jim: They need to hear it.

Brother Jim: When's the last time you said I love you to your child?

Brother Jim: I don't care if they're fifty, sixty, seventy years old again.

Brother Jim: Riddle me this, David.

Brother Jim: But true.

Brother Jim: Everyone likes to hear that.

David: Oh, absolutely.

Brother Jim: Especially the kids.

Brother Jim: Again, as I said, children do not expect perfection.

Brother Jim: They simply want to know they are important enough for dad to

Brother Jim: stop doing what he is doing and spend a little time with me.

Brother Jim: Imagine giving your child every toy they had ever wanted, which

Brother Jim: we do a pretty good job of that.

Brother Jim: Every electronic gadget, every

Brother Jim: new bicycle, every vacation

Brother Jim: imaginable.

Brother Jim: Kids were going to Bahamas.

Brother Jim: And when we get back in a month,

Brother Jim: hey, we're going down to pick a

Brother Jim: spot.

Brother Jim: David.

David: Uh.

Brother Jim: Disney.

David: Yeah. There you go.

David: Disney.

Brother Jim: Disney.

Brother Jim: But never giving them yourself.

Brother Jim: How many people?

Brother Jim: Let me ask you this, David, are

Brother Jim: on your cell phones or taking

Brother Jim: your computer.

Brother Jim: And I seen this today, a mom sitting their three beautiful

Brother Jim: children or husband, they're sitting there eating ice cream

Brother Jim: in Akron Zoo and oh, I gotta get my computer out now.

Brother Jim: I'm not judging, but I'm thinking, lady, you got three

Brother Jim: beautiful, blessed kids here.

Brother Jim: You got your husband, which that's a bonus there to the

Brother Jim: father of your children.

Brother Jim: And again, I'm sorry, but what's so important on that computer?

Brother Jim: You got to get out.

Brother Jim: Who takes a computer to the zoo?

David: Yeah.

Brother Jim: I'm just a little baffled on that one.

Brother Jim: But again, um, I got a good friend.

Brother Jim: Love him to death, but man takes his computer to the beach

Brother Jim: checking emails, and it's like, that's one of the greatest

Brother Jim: things on vacation, David.

Brother Jim: You get away from that, right?

David: Absolutely.

Brother Jim: And you still got your phone, but even putting your phone

Brother Jim: down, never giving them yourself, eventually they will

Brother Jim: trade every gift.

Brother Jim: Oh, they will trade every gift for just one afternoon with dad.

Brother Jim: Now time.

Brother Jim: It does build trust, my friends.

Brother Jim: Look at your own life.

Brother Jim: Time builds trust.

Brother Jim: You can't argue with me on that one.

Brother Jim: Relationships are not built overnight.

Brother Jim: Very true.

Brother Jim: They are built one conversation at a time.

Brother Jim: One bedtime bedtime story.

Brother Jim: One fishing trip.

Brother Jim: One walk, one trip to Monster Jam.

Brother Jim: Yeah, there's dad getting dirty with me.

Brother Jim: Yes.

Brother Jim: We don't care if we got dirt on us.

Brother Jim: Because I'm spending time with my daddy.

Brother Jim: Yep.

Brother Jim: Yes.

Brother Jim: One prayer, one baseball game.

Brother Jim: One dinner at a time.

Brother Jim: Children usually do not open

Brother Jim: their hearts during scheduled

Brother Jim: appointments.

Brother Jim: They open them during ordinary moments.

Brother Jim: Sometimes the biggest conversation happens while

Brother Jim: driving down the road.

Brother Jim: Quick story my friends.

Brother Jim: I used to work for a nationwide insurance and there was a guy

Brother Jim: who worked his way up corporate man all the way.

Brother Jim: And here is the sad thing.

Brother Jim: And with God as my witness, he told us in a very large meeting.

Brother Jim: And he was proud of it, David, that his kids had.

Brother Jim: Now they were teenage kids.

Brother Jim: They had to schedule time

Brother Jim: through his secretary to see

Brother Jim: dad.

David: Wow.

Brother Jim: Whoa whoa whoa whoa.

Brother Jim: And this man's bragging about it.

Brother Jim: Wow.

Brother Jim: They're in a meeting.

Brother Jim: What?

Brother Jim: Now, to know the guy.

Brother Jim: Yeah, you can see that he understood that.

Brother Jim: But I'm thinking you are such a stooge, brother, that your kids

Brother Jim: had to hold the light for dad

Brother Jim: while he is working on

Brother Jim: something.

Brother Jim: Now, as a father, I have finally learned the kid can never put

Brother Jim: the light in the right position.

Brother Jim: Yes, yes.

Brother Jim: Oh my.

Brother Jim: The things a child hears.

Brother Jim: How dad reacts when life gets difficult.

Brother Jim: How dad worships, how dad forgives.

Brother Jim: Character, my friends, is not taught only in lectures.

Brother Jim: It is demonstrated daily.

Brother Jim: The greatest classroom is simply living life together.

Brother Jim: Now we can say time builds memories.

Brother Jim: And I am big on memories.

Brother Jim: Children rarely remember.

Brother Jim: As I said, the expensive gifts, but they sure do remember the

Brother Jim: experiences camp and fish and working on that old car.

Brother Jim: Playing catch again.

Brother Jim: We could go on and on.

Brother Jim: Ice cream after church, reading bedtime stories, singing in the

Brother Jim: truck, praying before bed, taking the kids down to get a

Brother Jim: load of sand or gravel.

Brother Jim: Making it an adventure.

Brother Jim: My friends singing silly songs

Brother Jim: with them, making up your own

Brother Jim: words, you know, becoming grand

Brother Jim: master rap Jimmy, you know,

Brother Jim: whatever.

Brother Jim: No, I don't have the bling.

Brother Jim: But, you know, I try.

Brother Jim: Those simple moments become treasured memories.

Brother Jim: Years later, they will remember how dad made you feel.

Brother Jim: Now someone, someone once asked an elderly father, what would

Brother Jim: you do differently if you could live life again?

Brother Jim: He replied, I would spend less

Brother Jim: time polishing my car and more

Brother Jim: time building forts with my

Brother Jim: kids.

Brother Jim: Guess what?

Brother Jim: That car eventually is going to

Brother Jim: rust away or get sold at the

Brother Jim: auction.

Brother Jim: The memories, They don't get sold.

Brother Jim: They don't get auctioned off.

Brother Jim: Time opens the door to faith.

Brother Jim: And here we go.

Brother Jim: Faith is best passed down through relationships.

Brother Jim: Moses instructed parents not

Brother Jim: merely to teach God's word in

Brother Jim: the church, but throughout

Brother Jim: everyday life.

Brother Jim: Talking about God, when you're sitting, when you're walking,

Brother Jim: when you're driving, when you're eating, when you're putting them

Brother Jim: to bed, think about just sitting out on the porch, especially

Brother Jim: whether you're in Dover.

Brother Jim: You're out here in God's country.

Brother Jim: Oh my goodness, the birds singing the I had a blast the

Brother Jim: other night with Ellie because she's so afraid of everything.

Brother Jim: Just every time I'm like, what's that?

Brother Jim: What's that?

Brother Jim: And then grab her and she'd scream.

Brother Jim: Those little things.

Brother Jim: Faith grows naturally in the everyday moments.

Brother Jim: Fathers intentionally share with their children.

Brother Jim: Time will leave a legacy someday.

Brother Jim: Again, those kids aren't going

Brother Jim: to remember what you bought

Brother Jim: them, but they will remember

Brother Jim: your presence.

Brother Jim: Birthday present birth versus your presence.

Brother Jim: Ooh, there's a good one.

Brother Jim: They will remember your laugh, your odd humor, your hugs, your

Brother Jim: encouragement, your prayers, your forgiveness, your example.

Brother Jim: A father's legacy is not measured in dollars.

Brother Jim: It is measured in lives changed in Jesus.

Brother Jim: Think about this, my friends.

Brother Jim: Jesus made time.

Brother Jim: Think about Jesus, the busiest person who ever lived.

Brother Jim: But think about it.

Brother Jim: Crowds.

Brother Jim: They followed him everywhere.

Brother Jim: People constantly needed him.

Brother Jim: Yet Jesus always made time.

Brother Jim: Time for children.

Brother Jim: Time for disciples.

Brother Jim: Time for prayer to go to his

Brother Jim: father, and time for

Brother Jim: individuals.

Brother Jim: If the Son of God made time for people, can't we.

Brother Jim: Can't we try a little harder and make time for our families?

Brother Jim: Challenge to the men out there.

Brother Jim: Challenge to the fathers.

Brother Jim: Your child.

Brother Jim: Your children, they don't need a superhero.

Brother Jim: They need you.

Brother Jim: They don't need a perfect father.

Brother Jim: They don't need a wealthy father.

Brother Jim: They don't need a famous father.

Brother Jim: They need the present father.

Brother Jim: Family dinners.

Brother Jim: Which shelf will mean more fifty years from now?

David: time nonstop, but I also can't

David: spend an entire vacation week

David: and get nothing accomplished

David: You know, I've got all these things that I need to get done.

David: It's hard because trying to find the time, you want to be able to

David: do both and then you feel, you know, did I slight my kid?

David: You know, it's, it's, it's, it's

David: a mental toll to trying to make

David: sure that you're there for your

David: kids.

David: It's, it's a mental exhaustion.

Brother Jim: Well, funny you say that this morning, which is actually

Brother Jim: Friday, they had planned to go to Akron Zoo.

Brother Jim: And I said, look, guys, I got Friday my day off.

Brother Jim: I'm supposed to be my Sabbath Saturday.

Brother Jim: It looks like I've got an open schedule and I leave next week

Brother Jim: for conference, which that whole week is shot.

Brother Jim: Yeah, I gotta get the grass mowed.

Brother Jim: I gotta do this.

Brother Jim: I gotta do that.

Brother Jim: And lo and behold, my oldest, our oldest daughter Kylie,

Brother Jim: called me this morning.

Brother Jim: He's like, dad, you need to go.

Brother Jim: And her words ripped me like a hawk.

Brother Jim: And she said, you're always preaching about making memories,

Brother Jim: spending time with family.

Brother Jim: You better do this.

Brother Jim: And I'm so glad I did.

Brother Jim: Yeah.

Brother Jim: You know what, David?

Brother Jim: The grass is still going to grow.

Brother Jim: Yep.

Brother Jim: The weeds are still there.

David: Still needs mow tomorrow.

Brother Jim: Still needs mow tomorrow.

Brother Jim: You said it is an emotional battle.

Brother Jim: Yeah.

Brother Jim: Because your heart's torn in two.

Brother Jim: It's tough.

Brother Jim: Make the moments.
