A Move is Coming: Forgiveness, Part 2 (Psalm 51) // 3.2.25

so kind it was 4:00 a.m. Phil not 5 did

you get it

right hey you do whatever you have to

new place but um this is just outrageous

as uh to to do this again I I was

thinking in a couple months let's move

to another location and um and then just

see what what comes it's just it's been

a wild couple months we just get started

here and then the hardest thing physical

thing to hit our community maybe ever

and now we're back just like two seconds

went by in the midst of that um I just

want to thank all of you for just the

incredible outpouring of love and

support you've given each other uh as

well as this body and

uh I am in what I feel like is the last

couple months the fires did one thing

and then on another level it feels like

my heart is being tenderized to a place

where I I can feel and any given MO is

this the right mic if I give I feel like

it's got a lot of Reverb if I'm on the

wrong one one of you tell me that knows

what's going on um but I feel like my

heart's been tenderized in a way that I

feel like we're we're in a sometimes

it's just for myself other times when I

feel something for an extended season

it's it's for the community and I feel

like this is one of those Seasons where

we're to be in an extended tenderized

time allowing the Lord to look at our

hearts look at our discipleship on to

Jesus look at how the world is

positioning us to pull us away from that

and how do we step into it our vision as

a church is renewing the beauty of Jesus

on the frontiers of modern culture what

that means is it's first and foremost

about

Jesus why we're going after a renewal

meaning that the church is to come back

to the heart of what Jesus established

and we're to do that not by separating

from the culture but by investing into

it the the Val values that we've

anchored on are that we are word and

spirit that we are a missional family

that the good news the Gospel of Jesus

is power and that we worship in a realm

called the beauty of God's holiness to

quote the Psalms in that the word in

spirit means that we are anchored in

scripture and we're moved by his

Spirit there is never a more critical

time than that than right now we've got

to be anchored in scripture if you're

new to the church or you're new to or or

you just have heard things like you know

the church is all about the word of God

and whatever that means we go after that

hopefully pretty often the word of God

is something that's the most manipulated

misused and abused

concept uh and dynamic that the church

sometimes gets and oftentimes misses but

it's why we do everything out out of

scripture not because we worship

writings that were made by men but

because there's something here that's

tangible that has tested time and that

tells the testimony of God among men in

the midst of that we are looking for a

standard that we can set our lives to

the modern lie of modern Western

individualistic Society secularism

whatever you want to call it the the the

root lie is we can't trust any Authority

we can't trust an ultimate Authority let

alone

God and if you can't trust God there's

no testimony and certainly no scriptures

that I have to look so I just pick and

choose what I'd like which doesn't work

over time it can work for a moment it

doesn't work over time the reason why it

doesn't work over time is because I

can't pick and choose things and decide

what the ultimate right and wrong is if

I'm saying that I can pick and choose

what's right and wrong for me then I can

pick and choose technically what's right

and wrong for you or society and we're

never going to agree on anything because

we're not under anything that says this

is true

north and what the church is meant to be

is to show despite our flaws that's just

like everyone else out

there we discover and ReDiscover A

Renewed beauty of true north of the one

true light of the only thing that can

atone and deal with my guilt with my

shame with my anxiety with the

oppressive spirit that being a human

puts on my

life and in that I don't pretend to be

joyful I don't pretend that nothing

bad's happened to me I don't make

excuses for suffering

I have the only thing that has an answer

to suffering and that's that suffering

has a purpose because this life is not

the end because there's an ultimate

Authority and there is a creator that

has had intention with every single one

of us and he loves us and he wants to

speak to us so we're going to let him

speak to us today please turn to Psalm

51 Psalm 51 is a Psalm of David if you

weren't here last week that was part one

this is part two I was in Psalm 51 but

Psalm 51 to understand it you have to

understand 2 Samuel 11:2 the Psalms were

2 Samuel 11:2

written by a man named David who was

king of Israel has a phenomenal story in

in the scriptures David uh has a lot of

things culturally that people love about

him uh the first time I saw him was

naked in Italy that was

awkward I don't think I realized that

was him and someone pointed out and and

um anyway I wasn't I took a picture and

someone got really mad I wasn't supposed

to do that

apparently and uh but he was from from

we have his whole life basically David

Jesus we get little glimpses going up we

basically know David all the way through

his

life and we know that he had highs and

lows all the way through and we know

David as a man after God's Own Heart but

he wasn't a man after God's Own Heart

because he could sing beautiful songs

and and God loved his worship he was a

man after God's Own Heart because he had

the ugliest coldest hardest most

disgusting farthest from God heart you

can ever imagine he sinned and committed

the most heinous crimes against humanity

and God that you could ever imagine and

the reason why he's a man after God's

Own Heart is because he let God give him

a new

one and you and I have three Temptations

when we look at the subject today of

forgiveness we can compare to David and

say I haven't done anything as bad as

him

you can still be locked you can number

one compare you can number two uh and

that's Pride by the

way and then number two you can you can

have just keep stuck in your guilt and

go this this reminds me of all the

horrible things I've done and this

doesn't help me at all I don't have the

Breakthrough I can't sing the songs that

David sings uh and number three it

exposes really your idolatry or whatever

you worship and the LIE of self and who

who forms who you are in the value what

you are this this scripture brings us

it's a song that brings us into what the

act and practice of forgiveness is meant

to look like and many of us wrestle with

forgiving other

people but I

would I would ask you just before you

put aside this passage you you

understand that this isn't meant for you

to compare to David and how bad he did

and how not as bad you're doing what

this is an invitation to do and to be

and to receive is that despite David

doing far worse than any single other

person in this room he is experiencing a

greater measure of forgiveness Joy

Authority Mission and peace than you and

I are experiencing today and why should

a man living thousands of years ago

before the New Covenant of

Jesus be living in an in a completely

Superior more wonderful experience of

relationship with

God that's how he should confront you

how can a man that's done so far worse

experience so much

more Psalm

51 this is when Nathan the

prophet went to David to confront him

after he had gone into Beth Sheba Psalm

51 have mercy on me oh God according to

your steadfast love according to your

abundant Mercy blot out my

transgressions Wash Me thoroughly from

my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin

for I know my transgressions and my sin

is ever before me against you only you

have I sinned and done what is evil in

your sight so that you may be justified

in your words and blameless in your

judgment behold I was brought forth in

iniquity and in sin did my mother

conceive me there's a lot of things this

is a PO a poetic song We'll go through

what these things mean in a moment

behold you delight and Truth in the

inward being and you teach me wisdom in

the secret heart Purge me with hsip and

I shall shall be clean wash me and I

shall be whiter than snow this is

referencing back to what the priests

would do in a ritual cleansing let me

hear joy and gladness let the bones that

you've been broken that have broken

Rejoice hide your face from my sins and

blot out my iniquities create in me a

clean heart oh God and renew a right

Spirit within

me he has a need and awareness that he

needs not just to have his heart refined

but he needs one

created cast me not away from your

presence he realizes he's far from God

that's why he

sinned take not your Holy Spirit from

me and yet he believes the Lord will

restore to me the joy of your salvation

and uphold me with a willing Spirit then

I will teach transgressors your ways he

still has hope to have a purpose in

life and sinners will return to you he's

already not taking on the identity of a

sinner but as one who's a mouthpiece of

God realizing that in God's forgiveness

he always restores you to a position of

purpose and Mission because you do not

qualify yourself he does deliver me from

blood guiltiness oh God oh God of my

salvation and my tongue will sing aloud

of your righteousness open my lips and

my mouth will declare your praise for

you will not Delight in sacrifice or I

would give it you will not be pleased

with the burn off offering the

sacrifices of God are a broken Spirit a

broken and contrite heart oh God you

will not despise let's stop there

so last week we focused on what's

holding us

back this year we want to go after a

realm of discipleship we're calling it

disruptive discipleship in a secular age

returning to the Lord pursuing Jesus

Through practicing discipleship I I

joked how

the Tik toks and YouTube shorts that

that joke about how you go to a

therapist and you just say like uh you

know the therapist ask you well are you

getting enough sleep no are you praying

no they don't say praying they say are

you eating well no are you exercising no

are you calling a friend no are you

doing anything that you should be doing

every single day to have some sort of

normative uplifting experience no and

and what I like to remind us is that we

can do the same thing in the church

right well you're depressed you're

you're lost you're you're struggling for

your purpose you're just feeling

defeated well have have you spent time

with the Lord no have you prayed at all

no have you spent time in scripture no

have you been in community no have you

Sabbath no have you gone to community

group no have you have you have you

tithed have you have you been generous

with your life and your time have have

have you limited all the things coming

at you from the world and fixated on God

at

all this isn't a judgment this is what I

ask myself and realize like man I've

done those things this month

have I done them today any of

them those things are not so that we can

keep a checklist it's so that you can

keep your sanity and that you can be

full in a life in a world that's pulling

you against all these

things we're practicing the way of Jesus

because it's good for you because that's

the key to flourishing not so that you

can get into heaven when you die there's

not a single verse in all of scripture

about here's how you get into heaven

when you die not one not

one it's

about are you weary are you heavy and

Jesus says have you tried the ways of

the world my yoke is easy my burden is

light and then he UPS the bar up here

the problem isn't that you're you just

have to do these things the problem is

that you can't do these things the

problem is that your heart and then he

speaks to the Pharisees you think that

by trying to check the list off and

you're doing so well that you've gotten

closer to God you've gotten closer to

Holiness that you're more qualified than

your brother your neighbor whatever else

and he's saying you've missed the whole

point the whole point is that you can't

do this your heart should be exposed for

its imperfection and the fact that it

has to have a new heart the entire

message of Jesus and David saw this

thousands of years before looking ahead

for what God was like in his promise of

how he's going to atone for the world's

issues so last week was what's holding

us back our comparison our guilt and our

identity this week how do we practice

forgiveness how do we practice

forgiveness we're going to look at the

recognition owning our stuff the

restoration which is that God is

actually going to change us and then The

Full Experience restoration well first

recognition restoration and The Full

Experience um first I just want to also

just point out

maybe maybe a lighter tone for a moment

um as you all know as I mention often

I've got more kids than we meant to have

and love them all equally and like them

differently every moment of every day

they they also repent differently so um

that's just going to be your examples if

you don't like examples of my kids you

probably need to find another church I'm

sorry you don't have to have kids or

like kids I said uh I think a couple

weeks ago like it's we didn't have a lot

of kids cuz I liked kids it's cuz I like

my wife and the reality is that you

don't have to like kids either to be her

you do have to tolerate them but they

repent differently our four-year-old for

instance um she can be stubborn and um

and and fiery and defiant but generally

her repentance is full like when she

repents when you see that wall break

it's done and she wants to restore and

it's behind her fully completely she

doesn't hang on to it you know we have

to learn how to hold grudges in life

we do it's it's an acquired taste

grudges bourbon acquired

tastes then my my teenager one of them

or all of them um two of them I have two

of them now um had an experience this

week where we just

like and this is the most all my kids

are amazing but this is the most amazing

kid loves the Lord and I see just

unbelievable things that make me want to

make me want want to get

tyy but speaking of tyy he can look me

in the face tyy and deny something that

I know he

did I was going to lose my salvation and

his in one Fell Swoop this

week how could such a good kid look at

me defiantly when I am telling him I

know what you did this is what you did

and you are going to tell me that you

did

it

defiant I had to go to the Lord and ask

the Lord how are you going to use this

weakness of his and turn it into a

strength Jesus I have no faith in your

restorative transformative power of your

gospel compromise I we make jokes about

it because if I got too heavy I'd be

like this would be too depressing of a

message but I I had to laugh about it

too I'm like I'm I'm really wrestling

with this I'm not sure I believe in your

entire gospel with the wickedness out of

that thing that is my

Offspring and I can't blame anyone I

wanted to blame my wife so

bad and I couldn't do it

uh what about other relationships how do

we how do we as adults sometimes still

struggle with forgiveness of others well

you know if it's a bestie right we're

too nice usually to kind of blatant

you know lie to someone's face or just

some I we can be fake but usually it's

just kind of like Curt texts and

unavailability till I'm until I'm ready

to come back into your obnoxious

presence and restore

right and don't I mean I won't even

mention marriage how we can exist in the

same space and not communicate for weeks

on end thankfully we have gotten much

better at that right uh but I was like

you know what I think we are not are we

not talking to each other I you know

it's you talk but you're not talking and

and then you go like oh yeah you've been

mad at me for two and a half weeks and I

think we need to work on some

forgiveness uh just think about the

Dynamics and the and and this is

examples of God loving children and

god-loving

adults

forgiveness well in the midst of that I

just want us to think about a couple

secular lies the first secular liee

because again we're going to be going

after this year the lies that are out

there and then just what do we fixate on

here in this community and in my life

how do I actually practice the things of

Jesus discipleship but discipleship has

to be aware of what's around it cannot

just be a bubble so what are the secular

lies and what is the way of Jesus say

that's disruptive discipleship the

secular line number one we're looking at

today is that people never change

do you realize that you should be so

offended whenever you hear anything now

I know that we talk about like don't use

the word Trigg I hate it when people say

I'm so triggered I don't like that um

you can do that some of you are

triggered now that I said that but the

the it's just it's a it's a phrase so we

never used to say stuff like that and

now anything can trigger anybody and

then I and and then anyway as soon as I

start talking like that then I start

talking like somebody on the news and

then you rem I remind you of someone and

I don't mean to do that here's here's

what we

have to though understand about this lie

because we hear it all the time people

never change well the entire Christian

faith is built upon the concept that

people do

change in fact if you were going to give

the gospel contextualized it'd be people

actually

change

or you know we we talk about the spirit

that raised Christ from the dead which

is so profound this is the profoundness

of the the spirit raised Christ from the

dead human beings that are unable to

change can change that's the

gospel where you're completely unable to

change the gospel says you can

change but it also is a lie of that you

have the second lie is that you can

actually do it and so the second secular

lie is is that we have to go out and

Achieve so we have to look out we have

to go look inside ourselves and then go

live it

out and I've talked about this before

I'm going to quote something from Elsa

and um I mentioned I think real briefly

last week I've used it in a couple

sermons but I think it's a sometimes

it's like when a pastor uses an analogy

twice or three times you're like he's

lazy other times it's that okay we're

trying to use an ongoing theme

strategic so if you feel like I'm being

lazy just look at it more like strategic

and maybe you'll feel better I do um

anyway this is this is my Elsa example

so

Elsa um there's a little song that goes

like this um she

goes well I'm I'm I'm gonna kind of I'm

gonna kind of

Marcus I just don't have her

range what's the what's her name that

does Elsa

um I heard like three different names

you're all be quiet don't let them in

don't let them see you must be the good

girl you were always meant to be conceal

don't feel don't let them know what is

Elsa talking about the whole idea is

that Elsa is confronting the modern self

and the traditional self what's the

traditional self the traditional self is

that like your family is rigid and mean

and they just want you to be a popper

and sweep floors and be miserable and

everything's dark and gray and there's

disease cuz it's probably the middle

ages and there's like just cess pools

everywhere

right and then you you see this bright

this brightness inside this this free

little modern self that wants to be able

to have a vision in an American Dream

and and and find look inside for who you

really are and break free from all these

people that tell you that you

can't now the problem is it's it's like

partial

reality there are people that are always

going to tell you that want to stifle

you and hold you back

back the the issue though is that it's

saying that you have to decide who you

are you have to look within find any

value that you have

yourself

that's

heavy so you're telling every kid just

like yeah no one's going to tell you you

you're not worth anything apart from

what you can find by yourself what do

you tell the people I haven't found

anything inside me

so the the traditional self though is is

still

wrong that you're

completely oppressed by your world

around you whether that's family

community there's limited options and

you can't

dream but the modern self is so obsessed

with dreaming that what we miss is is

that you have to have a dream you have

to discover it deep within yourself find

your value and then you actually have to

go out and live it and achieve it and

will it and resist everything that holds

you

back and here's here's the

issue the gospel comes

in and it's a third option except that

the gospel is still in a time period but

is still operating out of an outside in

reality we live in an inside out so for

us to understand that maybe there's a

God that gives you purpose and identity

and worth and value you have to undo

this look inside thing and you have to

say is it possible that I can trust

something else someone else telling me

that I've got value and that I can live

into

that and so we're still trying to kind

of receive the Gospel and then we go out

and try to live it in our own

self and so Elsa is wrestling this voice

attacking her hide what's inside getting

sync with what's outside expected of you

again family community whatever the

expectations are and then she later goes

on it's time to see what I can do test

the limits and break through no right no

wrong no rules for me I'm free that's

the modern

self now as I always say I've heard

multiple pastors um use this analogy so

I'm giving them credit all of them

whoever stole it first congratulations

and then she goes into Let it go Let it

go I can't hold it in

anymore what can't she hold

in no right no wrong no rules for me I'm

free now we see it in a sweet little

thing because she's going after good

things and she's got you know evil

oppressive family and Community around

her well what we miss is is that we try

to form our own identities take a little

bit of God when it's helpful and then we

want to live into this modern

self and we're wrestling and wrestling

and wrestling

and what David is going to show us is a

much more efficient way not an easy way

but a much more efficient way to live in

a realm of

forgiveness and a new identity that God

calls a clean

heart okay so this is what it looks

like the recognition verse 1 to six I'm

G to have to go sups fast own the

failure this is the key in verses 1 to

six have mercy on me cleanse me he's

using all this cleansing language he's

ultimately getting at what God is like

God is the one who cleanses and cleans

this is among the most significant

features in the entire Psalm because

David's appeal is not to God's law not

to the rules not to a moral law not to

anything he believes he can do to make

it up what he's done not to his status

as a king not to any circumstances that

led him to fall not to he what he does

though though is he he appeals to

something to one

thing you and you

alone that's a big phrase it just sounds

like nice scriptural song stuff but what

he's saying is is God you alone your

nature your character this is what I'm

turning to I'm going Beyond myself this

prayer isn't just showing us his remorse

and being sorry for something and being

guilty

and it's saying this it's

saying I am not going to use the

standard of what I'm what I'm going to

move into with forgiveness because I all

of a sudden agree with you what he's

saying is is I have already seen that I

could justify my own

actions against you you only have I

sinned what he's saying is is I believed

that what I was doing was right when I

did it I did what I wanted to do I was

trying to live free I was trying to be

my desires the most sobering thing in

the whole encounter with David B Sheba

Uriah her husband I mentioned last week

bath Sheba was not an

accident UAH was one of his key Mighty

Men his his father was actually the

Mighty Men of David that went out to war

when he was being chased by Saul and

before he was King her grandfather is

his most uh trusted

adviser that lives in the palace he

can't pull any of this off without all

of them eventually knowing he's screwing

over the the most committed loyal family

in his entire

Kingdom because he wanted it because his

desires you you and then what we see

then

is Uriah who's given the option to go

home and sleep with his wife while his

men are on the battlefield so that

David can get bath Sheba pregnant

through Uriah or so that he would think

and cover his sin meanwhile everyone

else would have already known he was

never going to cover it in the midst of

this Uriah refuses David makes fun of

him acting like what's wrong with you

not going home to be with your wife like

there's something wrong with him which

shows the coldness ugliness of David's

heart in the midst of that you see that

Uriah demonstrates manhood that isn't

dictated on

desire you're more than your

desires the gospel pulls us toward

towards a place that

says you do not have to be identified

and to build yourself up

like every other

pull of humanity wants to pull you

towards there's a greater

deeper even more real pull if you'll

allow the Lord to give you a new

heart and David had to face the ugly and

it starts with a man that showed how to

deal with desire because David could

not in the midst of

that he prays this

prayer evil in your sight he references

because David is basically saying I did

what was right in my sight and what we

don't come to terms with is most of the

time we're trying to figure out like

what's right and wrong in our sight and

if that agrees with God and this and

that and the other what David is showing

us is when you allow your heart to go to

its Nth Degree it will always fail you

because your heart always desires things

it will ultimately kill you hurt you or

hurt somebody

else we have a rough time we just we

just think that there's something

completely unique about the people that

do the dark dark stuff and what God is

saying is is that the man who has my

heart the most beautiful worship writer

in all of history had the darkest

darkest heart he's capable of that and

so are you and so am I and that is the

most sobering reality on the planet is

that you and I are capable of the

darkest things you can

imagine I just need us to sit with that

you are capable I am capable of the

darkest things you can

imagine and if that is even a shred of

where your heart is at God is saying and

what David is

saying if you will look at God

if you will allow his ultimate authority

to Reign if you will say against you

only you have I sinned what he's saying

is is there's one ultimate Authority not

mine not self but you God I tried this

my way it doesn't work I have to try it

your way and he while he's saying that

he's taking all the law and all the

prophets and all the rules and he's

putting them under not that I check

anything off but they were all to point

me to you and what you're like and your

character and I want to know you you and

in the midst of this I'm seeing you for

who you really are if you've lost sight

of who God really is or maybe you've

never even tasted him or experienced him

David's song is an invitation for you to

know God not for you to check off a list

of rules of Rights and Wrongs your guilt

will never be fully dealt with if you

just start living

better so what David does there's a

process he owns the failure but it's he

recognizes who he's failed not himself

not other people while he did that he

failed God because what he did was he

said I can decide what's right and wrong

and I will and if I do if I'm the

ultimate Authority I'm done I just

invite you where is it in your life that

you really don't see God as ultimate

Authority where you're really just

picking and choosing the things of God

that are convenient and it's it's why

when we talk about the scripture why we

wrestle with it and we wrestle with it

especially the parts we don't

like and if something offends you like a

good God wouldn't be like that then

wrestle with it until you see his

goodness because you are either being

lied to by whatever is interpreting the

scripture to

you or you're lying to it yourself or

you think that you know better than God

and we would never say that what we

would say is there just must be a better

version whoever wrote this doesn't know

God like I know God

and it's always

convenient to be the only person on

Earth who can ever dictate what God

should be like and the ultimate question

is is it possible that if there is a

God that he has a different view than I

do and I don't like to sit with that so

I think I'm right and that's what David

ultimately realized he had Justified his

own own

Darkness until he can see the fullness

that it's God who

forgives that he brings a renewal of joy

and he gives a heart of wisdom so verse

verse 7 to 12 Begins the

restoration David doesn't just sit in

the guilt and

failure he allows God to begin to change

him create in me a clean heart oh God he

talks about his forgiveness he talks

about his Joy he talks about a heart of

wisdom to cure what led him

there to wipe and wash and and all this

stuff hiss up these are all ritual

cleaning words that ultimately lead to

us to the fact that he's saying clean me

restore me change

me all of

me and most of us if we're still stuck

in comparison and pride we only want God

to take care of this one little area

we're having trouble

with if you want the fullness the

fullness of the experience of

forgiveness you have to surrender

everything you have to assume you don't

see everything you have to know what

you're capable

of the darkness that you're capable of

if you want to carry his light David

carried the light because he stared the

darkness of his soul in the face and he

knew that he deserved nothing

so what's he saying what's he singing

he's saying that only God can bring into

existence that which previously did not

exist and that's where his heart is

being restored he wants a renewed heart

a steadfast

spirit and finally the experience the

experience has to move from the self to

others it has has to start showing

concern for more than yourself it has to

start seeing yourself as a missional

instrument to restore other people and

it has to have a posture of gratefulness

not condemnation not comparison not

Pride not anything other than I don't

deserve anything and therefore I can see

everything he's done and given me with

gratitude if you don't have

gratitude which daily do I wrestle with

gratitude I can be grateful about the

things I want to be grateful about I'm

almost done some of you need to stay

engaged for just a minute what are you

able to be grateful for I don't mean

like stupid Thanksgiving

stuff I didn't mean to say that like

that I love

Thanksgiving I mean like the the the

cheap stuff that we're always thankful

for like your

family like the person that didn't

overcook the turkey the the things that

are really valuable that don't put that

aside for a second I'm talking about

where is

gratitude for the stuff that's

impossible gratitude isn't

saying you know my parents wounded me

left me scarred me boom that accident

that I experienced or that someone in my

family experienced that sickness that

never got the Breakthrough in the

healing those wounds those scars how do

you have gratitude for that David is

should be completely scarred broken

miserable for the rest of his life he

should be guilty the rest of his life

for what he's done what he's

experienced and he's not

why he's not grateful for what he's done

he's not grateful for the

suffering he's able to see in the midst

of the suffering God is the only answer

to Suffering The Suffering that he

causes and the suffering he doesn't

cause meaning David's suffering God

doesn't cause the suffering he uses it

and when you see that you can understand

that God might be good without me having

a reason for the suffering and giving

some sort of stupid answer that doesn't

answer the reason why the pain is there

so where you're unable to to see

gratitude for God it is the area that he

doesn't have your heart I don't mean

that in like a you have to pretend

everything's okay with when that person

is gone or when that wound is real what

I mean

is is that David experienced something

so

profound he was able to have gratitude

in the midst of the most bottom dwelling

place a human being could and should

be and he could see God for who he was

and he could see ahead to the hope of

his future he could see ahead Beyond his

own life and the misery that he

caused and that gives hope to you and I

that gives hope for the pain of your

suffering that there's actually a God

that sees it and wants to work his

forgiveness so that you can actually

experience it not just talk about it not

just pray for it not just hear it not

just become like a over and over again

you hear the forgiveness I know I need

to forgive but I can't even forgive God

for what he allowed to happen to me and

if that's you I just want you to see the

eyes of God staring at you saying I I

see you and I get you and I want you to

know who I am in the midst of your pain

and David sees that when he understands

that all of a sudden it doesn't ruin his

purpose and he hasn't screwed over his

entire purpose in life it means that his

his pain and the suffering that he

caused has given him a renewed heart and

renewed purpose and A Renewed voice to

show people what God is

like and if you'd like that renewed

heart and that renewed voice and that

renewed Mission today I just want to

invite you to stand with me and let me

pray over you as I pray over myself

up that's what you call a crash landing

where I'm going to figure it all out in

prayer but stay in that moment stay in

that moment of being aware of where your

heart is at maybe you need to still be

sitting in the place of what's holding

your heart

back maybe it's the guilt maybe it's the

comparison maybe it's just a struggle

with identity

and holy spirit we're asking

you to help us step into

recognizing our imperfect failed

hearts and with whatever little faith we

have we trust you and invite you to be

the one who

changes where some of us in the room

have been trying to be the Agents of

change we haven't allowed God to be the

one who changes

if you want to live a changed life if

you've been trying to change areas of

your life In Your Own

Strength David reminds you that you

can't and you

won't the key to a changed

life is a fresh encounter with what God

is really

like owning it and then sing there is no

way to deal with this other than you

come in trans form heal renew so imagine

the broken lives that David was

surrounded by the Broken families he's

then married to B Sheba and all her

family who he's wounded more deeply than

anyone you can

imagine that's the rest of his life how

can he possibly live with any confidence

in hope because it's not in

himself are you with me are you with me

some measure of a good day and a

confidence in God because I'm doing a

good

that we can do a lot of good in our own

strength it will always fall short and

we will never experience the fullness of

this kind of song

promises without you changing us wholly

and completely

room it's holding on to some of the

legitimate bitterness of those that have

wronged you completely

unjustly I can't possibly tell you or

condemn you from my

position to let that

go I just invite

you pray a simple prayer and ask the

Lord what do I do with this bitterness

and this pain and this

suffering where are you in it what do

you say about

it how do I let you change me in the

midst of it

don't have that woundedness and you just

have been distant from the Lord and you

don't know

can't possibly understand that God would

from he wants to confront that he wants

lie and this is a moment for you will

let the seeds of Hope be deposited into

heart a full

heart give us eyes to

see new identities new

standards a new standard of self built

on

Jesus not on Elsa not on anything

else we continue to live in the midst of

a culture telling all kinds of

stories remind us that you're writing

ours and that we can trust you in

it Lift Us higher as we respond in

gratitude for the process that we have

no other plan B and no other

option rather than to trust a God who

cares who sees and who changes we pray
