  1. Hello, hello, friend. Thank you so much

  2. for tuning in here at Free Life Chapel,

  3. where we help you discover and live the

  4. free life in Christ. My name is Cotti,

  5. and I'm so glad that you're tuning in

  6. with us. If you ever find yourself in

  7. the Central Florida area, come visit us.

  8. We want to connect with you face to

  9. face. But until then, visit our website,

  10. freelifechapel.org, to find out more

  11. about what's happening at your church.

  12. There's a phenomenal message in store

  13. just for you. I hope you're encouraged.

  14. In Jesus's culture, he was in training

  15. for 30

  16. years. It was only after you turned 30

  17. that you could become a

  18. priest. Jesus was in training for 30

  19. years and only ministered for three. He

  20. did a lot in three years, didn't he?

  21. Like when you open your Bible and you

  22. read the stories of what he's teaching

  23. and and and and the miracles that take

  24. place, all of that happened in three

  25. years. That wasn't when he was in his

  26. 20s. That only happened between 30 and

  27. 33 because he would not have been

  28. legitimate in anybody's eyes in his

  29. culture. He followed the the the

  30. footsteps. He followed what the rabbis

  31. taught because he was very locked into

  32. his culture. He was 30 years old when he

  33. became the Levite. And three and three

  34. years he did his miracles and his

  35. teaching. And his goal when he came was

  36. to actually heal the divide between man

  37. and God. And that's what I want to talk

  38. to you tonight. This Good Friday

  39. service, what makes it good? There's

  40. nothing good about it when you look at

  41. it. It was bad for Christ, but good for

  42. us. Would you tell somebody, it's good

  43. for me. It's good for me. And and I'm

  44. I'm so glad I'm so glad that he did

  45. this. And I want us to take a a sincere

  46. look at what he did. and actually find

  47. the the the blessing, the power, the

  48. benefit, the impact, and remind us what

  49. it is that he did on this Friday.

  50. Different than what happens when he gets

  51. up out of the ground. This this night is

  52. different. This this sacrifice is

  53. different. We can't just run it all

  54. together because the climax of Jesus's

  55. purpose on the earth, it all hit at 33

  56. years old with a sacrifice that nobody

  57. else could do. A lot of good people had

  58. died for good reasons before now, but

  59. nobody had done what Jesus did.

  60. On that

  61. night, on the night where the whole

  62. passion actually began, it started with

  63. a meal. Jesus and the disciples were

  64. around a table and Jesus is talking with

  65. them about what's going to happen. And

  66. he began to talk about how this bread is

  67. my body and and this cup is my blood and

  68. his expression what's about to happen.

  69. It was a Passover seder if you have any

  70. context as to what that is. And and then

  71. he left that meal. He left that mill and

  72. went to a place called Gethsemane to go

  73. pray. Gethsemane is is is is a little a

  74. little area where it's filled with olive

  75. trees because Gethsemane was an olive

  76. press. It's a place where they took

  77. olives and they put them on a big

  78. rolling stone slab and they crushed the

  79. olives to squeeze the life out of them.

  80. That's why Gethsemane literally means

  81. the place of pressing. Jesus is in a

  82. place of pressing where the life is

  83. being pressed out of him to the point

  84. that he is now sweating great drops of

  85. blood in Gethsemane. And you remember

  86. the prayer that he prayed. Father, let

  87. this cup pass from me.

  88. Nevertheless, not my will, but your will

  89. be done. Big

  90. prayer. He he he he didn't want to go

  91. through this. He knew what was on the

  92. way. He was fully conscious, fully aware

  93. of everything that was about to happen.

  94. He knew on the God side of who he was.

  95. You see, he was 100% man and 100% God at

  96. the same time. So while he was a human

  97. like you and I, he was fully aware

  98. looking backwards on this as to what was

  99. going to happen. He knew the beating. He

  100. knew he was there when the man who was

  101. going to beat him was created.

  102. He knew the stories behind every person

  103. that he would look at face to face. And

  104. the only reason they were still sucking

  105. air is because he gave them breath that

  106. morning.

  107. And here he is. And he's in this place

  108. in Gethsemane. and he says, "Let this

  109. cup pass from me." That sounds like a

  110. prayer I would pray. That sounds like a

  111. prayer you would pray and rightfully so.

  112. But he prayed one p one aspect of that

  113. prayer in his humanity and then he

  114. finished the prayer.

  115. Nevertheless, he finished it in in

  116. surrender and submission to his father.

  117. Nevertheless, not my will but your will

  118. be done. From that point on, the Roman

  119. soldiers came. They arrested him. Judas

  120. kissed him. sold him out for 30 piece of

  121. silver. We see him arrested and he's put

  122. on kangaroo trial but by by the

  123. religious elite. They bring him in

  124. blindfolded. They begin to beat him,

  125. mock him, laugh at him, prophesy. Who

  126. was it that just hit you? Then they took

  127. him from there and took him to Pilate.

  128. Why Pilate? Because Pilate was the was

  129. the man that was o that represented

  130. Rome. The power, the authority that was

  131. existent there. And so they wanted to

  132. get his approval. And the religious

  133. didn't want to get Jesus's death on

  134. their hands. So they would turn him over

  135. to Rome. So we convicted him as a Jew,

  136. but now we want you to do our dirty

  137. work. You do the killing. And Pilate

  138. looks at him and goes, "I can't find

  139. anything wrong with him." And the

  140. scriptures tell us that Pilate's wife

  141. had heard of Jesus. Pilate, leave it to

  142. a woman. Pilate's wife was fully aware

  143. of who Jesus was. And she told Pilate,

  144. "You better not put a hand on him. You

  145. better not touch him. You don't know who

  146. this man is. He's done some cra you got

  147. to read your Bible. You don't want to be

  148. a part of this." So Pilate like backs up

  149. and he goes, "Look, look, I I I don't

  150. know what to do. In fact, let me send

  151. him to Herod. Herod was the king of the

  152. Jews who was appointed by Rome. And so

  153. he he sends him to Herod trying to get

  154. Jesus off of his responsibility. And and

  155. then then Herod turns around and sends

  156. him right back again. And so so we've

  157. got this interplay of people. What do we

  158. do with him? Pilate now was looking at

  159. him and he goes, "I still can't find

  160. anything wrong with him. There's there's

  161. nothing I can leverage against him that

  162. deserves crucifixion." And so Jesus

  163. brings him to the people and he says,

  164. "Do you want Jesus or Barabbus? Which

  165. one do you want? I'm going to give you

  166. one of the prisoners." And and the crowd

  167. begins to scream for Barabus. Give us

  168. the thief. Give us the murderer. Give us

  169. him. Kill Jesus. This was what the

  170. crowd, this is not the same crowd that

  171. celebrated when he came into Jerusalem.

  172. This was a religious crowd that had all

  173. been put together to make sure that

  174. Jesus was silenced once and for all.

  175. From that point on, Pilate then said,

  176. "Fine. If you want to go here, we'll go

  177. here." And so then he releases them to

  178. start the flogging. Now, the Roman

  179. soldiers, they pull out what's called a

  180. cat of ninetails. That is a that's a

  181. piece of wood about 18 in long that has

  182. nine strips of leather hanging off of

  183. it. inside laced inside of the leather

  184. of bone and pieces of metal and things

  185. that are sharp in nature that would

  186. leave after he was beaten with 39

  187. stripes over 1,400 wounds on his back.

  188. In fact, the way one New Testament

  189. writer writes it that by his stripes you

  190. are healed. Literally the word is not

  191. stripes but stripe because there was

  192. nothing left to his back. You couldn't

  193. count stripes. His back was gone when

  194. they finished. So this is they beat

  195. Jesus. Then they put a crown of thorns

  196. on his head. They put a purple robe on

  197. his back and pressed it into the wounds

  198. that they had just made through the

  199. beating. Then they began once again to

  200. mock him and punch him and revile him,

  201. laughing at him. In fact, the Bible says

  202. they beat him in the head with a

  203. rod. Pilate then goes back to the

  204. people. I've done my part. Will you

  205. please take him?

  206. And the people began to cry, "Crucify

  207. him!" You see, this is this is odd

  208. because in this Roman culture, in this

  209. day and age, the Romans would either

  210. beat you or crucify you. You never did

  211. both.

  212. Jesus had already been beaten 39 times.

  213. I don't have time to get into the

  214. desript descriptives as to what that

  215. would look like and how that would go

  216. down. It's very meticulous and it's not

  217. just my opinion. Even medical doctors

  218. have written about this. It is heinous

  219. what would happen because it wasn't just

  220. his back. Those strips of leather would

  221. wrap around his side. They would grab

  222. his stomach. They pulled off everything

  223. from his hind quarters to his stomach to

  224. his side. That many say you could see

  225. his kidneys from behind. It wasn't that

  226. he was just beaten to be weak. Muscle

  227. was missing from his back.

  228. They were beating the life out of him.

  229. And then everyone says, "Now crucify

  230. him."

  231. So Pilate said, "Fine." And Pilate goes

  232. and he washes his hands. He said, 'I'll

  233. have nothing to do with this. You want

  234. him crucified, we'll crucify him. And

  235. they did. They put a beam on his back

  236. that would have weighed 110

  237. pounds, just after the beating. Again,

  238. not in a weakened state, in a state

  239. where the muscle is gone. The muscle

  240. can't be weak. It doesn't exist anymore.

  241. The beam of 110 pounds is laid across

  242. his back and he's told, "Take it. Carry

  243. your cross up a hill to

  244. Goltha." He gets to the top. He lays

  245. himself down on this. They put the the

  246. beam across that was across his

  247. shoulders on an upright post. They nail

  248. him to this post. One in each hand, one

  249. spike in each hand. It would have been

  250. in this area right here. Never in the

  251. hand. Jesus's body would have pulled off

  252. if the nails were there. He they put it

  253. right here so that the nail would be

  254. cinched between the ulna and the radius

  255. of the arm and it would hinge on the

  256. wrist and he could hang suspended

  257. there. So they nailed him to this cross.

  258. They drew one spike through both feet

  259. and suspended him between heaven and

  260. earth. And according to timelines, if

  261. you read the timelines and you begin to

  262. work the gospels, and I did this all

  263. over again this week, he was hung at

  264. 9:00 am in the

  265. morning. That means he was beaten before

  266. 9:00

  267. a.m. The sun went black on him at 12

  268. noon. I wish I had time to get into

  269. that. And then he died at 300 p.m. in

  270. the

  271. afternoon. He was on the cross for six

  272. hours.

  273. Why did he die at 3 p.m.? Because that

  274. was the exact time when all Passover

  275. lambs were dying in the temple.

  276. The lamb of God was dying while the

  277. lambs for sacrifices were happening. And

  278. according to Josephus, a historian and a

  279. writer, Jewish writer, there was

  280. probably there was upwards of one over 1

  281. million people in Jerusalem expected

  282. somewhere around 250,000 sacrifices

  283. going on. And here Jesus is dying on the

  284. cross at the exact same time. I I it's

  285. it's it's a heinous picture. And we've

  286. seen the movies and and we've heard

  287. these stories and and I've got to tell

  288. you this year it just it just hit me

  289. different all over again. And I I I've

  290. read it. I've heard it all my life. I've

  291. I've preached it. But there's something

  292. about reawakening that and and it

  293. hitting you deep again and reminding you

  294. what our savior did for you and for me.

  295. And the only reason is because of love.

  296. There was no obligation. And there was

  297. just love. Love. We didn't deserve it. I

  298. done nothing to for him to say thank

  299. you, Scott. Here. Are you kidding me?

  300. That was just love put him on the cross.

  301. Love kept him on the cross. Not nails.

  302. Love did that. God's love for you and

  303. for me. It's been it it it's rocked my

  304. world. I found myself uh crying

  305. throughout this week uh during worship

  306. tonight. I could hold it together. I'm

  307. almost dehydrated. I'm like puddles

  308. coming out. I I'm just the awareness of

  309. what he did for you and for me. And as

  310. he's sitting on the as he's on the

  311. cross, the last thing he said, and we

  312. know this in the gospels, John 19:30,

    John 19:30

  313. John says this, when he had received the

  314. drink, Jesus said, read this, "It is

  315. finished." And with that, he bowed his

  316. head and gave up his

  317. spirit. It is finished.

  318. Tatelisty in the Greek to

  319. telly. There's I want I want to focus

  320. for the for the closing moments of of

  321. tonight and and draw your attention to

  322. this word because there's something

  323. inside of this word that if you and I

  324. don't understand why Jesus said this and

  325. what was meant when he said it, we will

  326. miss a great part of the impact of what

  327. you and I get to be here for and

  328. celebrate tonight. And so you're going

  329. to have to excuse me because for the

  330. rest I I've got nothing but good news.

  331. Is it okay if we talk some good news

  332. right now? Cuz all that stuff

  333. beforehand, man, that makes me feel

  334. heavy and I'm not enjoying any of that.

  335. I got to tell you right now, I hate even

  336. talking about it. It guts me to talk

  337. about it. But but I I I want to I want

  338. to show you something on the other side

  339. of this. When Jesus said, "It is

  340. finished to telly." I've got to take you

  341. here. There's two there's two big keys

  342. inside the grammar of what he said. uh

  343. he he the Bible is so specific. It's not

  344. just the words. It's the grammar that is

  345. used to begin to reveal the impact of

  346. what he said. Uh tatelisty means it is

  347. finished. But I want you to understand

  348. number one uh the totalist is a word

  349. that's used in the perfect tense which

  350. means which which means this it

  351. describes a completed action in the past

  352. that has a continuing result for the

  353. future.

  354. So, so it's it's perfect tense like it

  355. was done then but all that was done then

  356. for what's about to come that that's

  357. that that's locked inside just the

  358. grammar. All right. So you'll hold on

  359. and then and then and then the second

  360. part of this grammatical picture is

  361. this. It this word then it pushes our

  362. attention to see the present results of

  363. the action that has been finished. In

  364. other words, the Bible is telling us

  365. this in the perfect tense. His death is

  366. the death for all time. It wasn't just a

  367. oneoff event. It was done today and it

  368. will last for eternity. That's that's

  369. the first picture. And then the word

  370. comes and it tells us this. It's an

  371. action that was finished. So I need you

  372. to look ahead, which means do not focus

  373. on the cross. I need you to focus on the

  374. results of what the cross did. That is

  375. finished. and I finished that so that

  376. you could have this. This is

  377. grammatically what's even just locked up

  378. inside of this where the removal and the

  379. defeat of sin has been done. This this

  380. word totalist has four different

  381. meanings how it was used in the culture.

  382. And I I got to take you here real quick

  383. and show you this. This is this is so

  384. cool because it's got greater meaning

  385. than what you and I can read. When

  386. people read this phrase, it is finished.

  387. Uh it it seems to be oh and he's going

  388. to drop his head and die. It's so sad.

  389. You need to understand it is finished

  390. was a declaration of you should have

  391. killed me a long time ago if you thought

  392. you were going to shut me down. But now

  393. the best is yet to come. This this it is

  394. finished was a whisper of victory. You

  395. thought you if in fact the Bible says if

  396. the enemy would have known what he was

  397. doing, he never would have had Jesus

  398. crucified. So Jesus is about is is in

  399. this it is finished is kind of smackt

  400. talking the enemy right at the end where

  401. the enemy is about to throw a party. The

  402. balloons are about to hit. In fact the

  403. confetti is flying and once the confetti

  404. flies and Jesus says it is finished. The

  405. enemy is like stop the party. What have

  406. we done? Anybody ever played Anybody

  407. ever played uh uh uh Jenga?

  408. Y'all know you So Jenga's the stack of

  409. blocks, right? And everyone's got to

  410. pull a block one at a time and you got

  411. to go around in circles and and the goal

  412. is to to not be the one who makes

  413. everything topple. Y'all know what I'm

  414. talking about? Yeah. Well, well, what

  415. happened here on on it is finished? The

  416. enemy thought he was pulling a safe

  417. block and it was all over. Only for

  418. Jesus to say, "Oh, you shouldn't have

  419. pulled that block right there because

  420. that's where the whole thing fell." He

  421. thought he had it all together only for

  422. Jesus to flip the script. Here's what I

  423. want you to understand. It is finished.

  424. it. That phrase literally meant this.

  425. The sacrifice is

  426. completed. He's 33 and he's finished

  427. with the sacrifice. In fact, in the

  428. Hebrew, the word would be shalim. It

  429. means complete, whole, peaceful.

  430. Promises have been kept. And there's a

  431. reference to a reward now that is

  432. coming. You see, this this phrase was

  433. very popular in Jesus's culture. It's

  434. the same phrase that rabbis would speak

  435. on the day of Yam Kapour. The one day a

  436. year that sins would be forgiven. One

  437. day a year. You didn't go get

  438. forgiveness of sin every day. There was

  439. one day a year that sins would be

  440. forgiven. And the high priest would take

  441. the lamb, kill the lamb, put it on the

  442. altar, go into the holy of holies, and

  443. he would sprinkle the blood there. And

  444. when God saw the blood, the sins of

  445. Israel was forgiven. They were they were

  446. covered for another year. But they had

  447. to do this over and over and over every

  448. year again. The animal could only cover

  449. sin. It could not take it away. But when

  450. the high priest finished on the day of

  451. Yan Kapor, he would step outside of the

  452. tent and he would shout

  453. shalam, which means it is finished. And

  454. everybody exhaled and were so grateful

  455. because they knew that they were back in

  456. right standing with God. What what is

  457. atonement at onenessment with God again?

  458. We are one. There's nothing separating

  459. us. There's nothing dividing us. We're

  460. all back on the same page again. Jesus

  461. had heard this word. The Jews in the

  462. area, they had heard this word. We read

  463. our Bibles that it tells us that he said

  464. to that is the Greek translation of what

  465. Jesus would have also declared when he

  466. said shalim as a Jew. That's what he was

  467. said. But here's what I want you to

  468. understand. In order to have Yam Kapoor,

  469. you have to have two things. A priest

  470. and a

  471. lamb. There had to be a lamb that was

  472. that was identified, a lamb that was

  473. perfect, a lamb that was spotless, a

  474. lamb that was without blemish. That's

  475. what it took in order to cover sins in

  476. the Old Testament. So for Jesus to be a

  477. legitimate

  478. sacrifice, a priest had to identify and

  479. qualify Jesus publicly in order for him

  480. to be allowed to be the sacrificial

  481. lamb. So where do you get that priest

  482. that would be willing to qualify Jesus

  483. publicly because all of them have been

  484. working to get him killed? Where do you

  485. find a priest that could qualify him so

  486. that he is fitting every type and shadow

  487. of the sacrificial lamb? Well, this

  488. priest in order to to be a priest, you

  489. had to be born inside the lineage of

  490. Aaron. Aaron was the first high priest.

  491. Watch this. Watch this. This is amazing.

  492. And before Jesus was born, in fact, six

  493. months before he was born, there were

  494. two descendants of Aaron the high

  495. priest. Their names were Zachariah and

  496. Elizabeth.

  497. And they had a little boy named John.

  498. You might know him as John the Baptist.

  499. He was the forerunner of Jesus. He was

  500. the one that was going out and

  501. proclaiming who Jesus was going to be.

  502. And the Bible tells me this in John 1

  503. 29. John saw Jesus coming down the road.

  504. And he declared, "Behold the lamb of God

  505. who takes away the sin of the world."

  506. You have to understand what happened.

  507. His statement about Jesus was not an

  508. opinion. It was an official priestly

  509. ruling identifying, marking, and

  510. qualifying him to be the lamb that could

  511. die for the sins of humanity once and

  512. for all. These comments were

  513. intentional. It was laid out and

  514. purposefully built just the way it was

  515. supposed to be. So Jesus is filling two

  516. roles on the cross while he's dying

  517. because you have to have a priest and

  518. you have to have a

  519. lamb. This tells me this that he was our

  520. sacrificial lamb but he was also our

  521. high priest. Watch this. As a lamb he

  522. became our final

  523. sacrifice. As a priest he performed the

  524. sacrifice and he was the mediator over

  525. his own death. He was the one who

  526. allowed it to happen. He was there

  527. overseeing and watching the entire

  528. process. In fact, Pilate looked at him

  529. in his questioning and Pilate says,

  530. "Don't you know I could release you or

  531. have you crucified?" And Jesus said,

  532. "You've got no power that I didn't give

  533. you,

  534. y'all." That's boss right there. That's

  535. straight up boss. That that's that Jesus

  536. wasn't confused in this entire

  537. process. So, when Jesus said, "Watch

  538. this, it is finished." He said it is

  539. finished as the high priest on the day

  540. of Yam Kapor just like it happened in

  541. the Old Testament once a year there were

  542. sins were covered but Jesus is now the

  543. priest on the cross and when he shouts

  544. it is finished in fact the rabbis right

  545. rebbitic history tells us that when the

  546. priest would step out and he would

  547. declare it is finished his voice could

  548. be heard for 15 miles away something

  549. supernatural would come on him so that

  550. everybody in surrounding areas would

  551. know that once and for all it was

  552. covered. When Jesus is on the cross and

  553. he announces it is finished, let me

  554. remind you, he's been beaten. He's been

  555. up all night long. He's dehydrated. He's

  556. missing parts of his back. He's he he

  557. he's he's famished. He's had no food.

  558. He's been hanging on a cross in the sun

  559. for 6 hours. When he says it is

  560. finished, ladies and gentlemen, that was

  561. not a whisper. He didn't just let that

  562. trickle out of his mouth so some

  563. bystander they think they heard

  564. something. He was our high priest. So

  565. that when he said it is finished, the

  566. Bible says the very next thing that

  567. happened, an earthquake hit the ground.

  568. Everything began to shake because there

  569. there was that priestly anointing that

  570. came on Jesus that when he declared, "It

  571. is finished. We're back to a day of Yam

  572. Kapor to put man and God back on the

  573. same page again, but not just to cover

  574. the sins, but to remove the sins once

  575. and for all. Never to have another

  576. sacrifice

  577. again. Somebody shout, "That's my God."

  578. My God. Yes. Yes.

  579. Yes. So, number one, it is

  580. finished. The sacrifice is complete is

  581. what to test meant. But but number two,

  582. it also means this culturally the

  583. mission is

  584. accomplished. The mission is

  585. accomplished. You have to understand in

  586. the Greek culture whenever a servant was

  587. sent on a mission and he completed the

  588. mission and he came back to his master

  589. came back to the servant came back to

  590. the to his employer he would tell that

  591. person to test a lie. I did it. I

  592. completed it. I did everything you asked

  593. me to do. The mission is finished. It's

  594. done. It's

  595. complete. But the question has to be

  596. asked when you hear the phrase it is

  597. finished. You need to discover what is

  598. it?

  599. Because it means several things. If I'm

  600. working and someone sent on a work job,

  601. then okay, I know what it was. Well,

  602. what was it that Jesus finished? Jesus

  603. finished the purpose of God for his

  604. life. Well, then tell me what the

  605. purpose of God was. You've known it all

  606. your life. For God so loved the world

  607. that he gave his only begotten son that

  608. whosoever would believe in him will not

  609. perish but have everlasting life.

  610. Jesus's cry. That was an announcement

  611. that day to the world that God's will

  612. has been finished. At 33, I did it. At

  613. 33, I finished what it was that he

  614. called me to do. It was a shout of

  615. victory. It was not a shout of defeat.

  616. It was finishing. I I I've done it. I I

  617. in the face of every obstacle, in the

  618. face of my humanity that wanted to walk

  619. away and shut it down, my mom is

  620. watching this happen. My my brother, my

  621. my my my my cousins, my family, they're

  622. all watching this take place. The

  623. disciples are there. People are crying.

  624. It's a mess. I could call 10,000 angels

  625. right now and wipe them all out. I could

  626. steal the breath out of their body. I've

  627. got to guard my thoughts because one

  628. divine thought in the wrong direction

  629. will end this entire thing. I've got to

  630. hold it together if I'm going to

  631. complete it. And the Bible says he did.

  632. Mission accomplished. The victory was

  633. his. To test a lie, it's done. But but

  634. but to test a lie also means this. In

  635. the business world, this word was used

  636. which means the debt is gone.

  637. This is this is this is a a big it was

  638. well understood. This was this was

  639. prolific. To test was used to announce

  640. that a debt had been cancelled. Either

  641. cancelled or paid off, one of the two,

  642. but the debt was paid in full that

  643. nothing else is owed. And they would do

  644. this in a few different ways. the

  645. contract that that that the agreement

  646. was written on. Whenever they came to

  647. the end and it was paid in full, a

  648. couple of things would happen. One of

  649. two ways. The the person who owned the

  650. contract, not the person who who was

  651. indebted, but the person who then had

  652. the power of the contract, he would walk

  653. in and he would take a a sponge. He

  654. would take something wet and he would

  655. begin to wipe and scrub the parchment

  656. because it was hard to just cover it

  657. with ink. That they would blot

  658. out the

  659. debt, smear it so it was no longer seen.

  660. Or or they would they would come in and

  661. the man who owned it, who was saying,

  662. "Yes, you paid it off." He would put a

  663. massive X on it. And that X was also a

  664. declaration to all that were around that

  665. this debt has been paid in full. In

  666. Colossians chapter 2 verse 14, it tells

    Colossians 2:14

  667. us that your debt and my debt was nailed

  668. to the cross, which is exactly what

  669. somebody did when they paid a debt off.

  670. They were so excited they would take

  671. that parchment outside and historians

  672. tell us they would nail it to the post

  673. of their house. So everybody who walked

  674. by, they would see that and realize,

  675. "Wow, this is a good guy. His debt has

  676. been paid." Ladies and gentlemen, let me

  677. help you with something. There was a

  678. debt you could not afford to pay. There

  679. was something I owe that I had no

  680. capacity to fix that situation. But one

  681. greater than I. His name is Jesus. He

  682. stepped in. He said, "I got you, dog. I

  683. got you." And he stepped in. This is

  684. before I knew him. Before I cared about

  685. him, I was acting a fool. I didn't love

  686. him. But he said, "I love you in spite

  687. of you, Scott. I'm going to do something

  688. for you to test shalim. It is finished.

  689. I'm wrapping it up and I'm going to

  690. forgive you. I'm going to blot out all

  691. that's wrong. I'm going to put my mark

  692. on your life and I'm going to nail it to

  693. the cross. Your debt is over. Would

  694. somebody shout debtree? Just shout

  695. debtree in this

  696. room. All debt of sin, failure, wrong,

  697. it's it's gone. There's nothing else you

  698. can do, ladies and gentlemen. You've

  699. been set free from the debtor. I don't

  700. know what your life was like before

  701. Jesus, but that's over. the the the

  702. anger, uh the mess, uh the the the how

  703. you ran the streets, what you used to

  704. do, the murder, the pride, the

  705. rebellion, the jealousy, the anger, the

  706. lust, the past, all of that stuff. That

  707. is gone. It's over, blotted out, marked

  708. out, nailed to the cross. It is done.

  709. Let me help you with something. If

  710. you're eating lunch and somebody says,

  711. "Hey, I want to buy you lunch." Your

  712. first answer is an immediate yes.

  713. I recommend

  714. it. And after they pay for that

  715. lunch, you don't owe anything

  716. else. It's

  717. done. Stop trying to pay for a lunch

  718. that's already been paid for

  719. because you can't afford it anyway.

  720. I've been taken to some dinners before

  721. by some people that were classy. I don't

  722. know why I was there, but we walked in

  723. and it was the kind of place that they

  724. don't even put the prices on the menus.

  725. They just have the food listed there.

  726. And I'm like, "Excuse me, can I How much

  727. is this?" And like I'm like, "Okay, I'll

  728. take like a half a head of lettuce and

  729. you a little bit of like like what in

  730. the world?" And and and I'm just sitting

  731. there and and and the the people who

  732. took it said, "We got this. Don't worry

  733. about it. Order whatever you want." I'm

  734. like, "Thank you." And so, man, I had a

  735. good time. I'm just telling you right

  736. now that Jesus has taken you places and

  737. pay him for stuff that you could never

  738. afford. So you can have an experience in

  739. life that you could never have. Why?

  740. Because it is finished to test the lie.

  741. It's over when he died on that cross.

  742. Oh, I love this. Colossians 1:14 says

    Colossians 1:14

  743. his son paid the price to free us, which

  744. means that our sins are forgiven. Your

  745. debt is gone. This fourth and the last

  746. one is this test. Test a lie. It

  747. literally means new life.

  748. Jesus is on the cross, y'all. And he's

  749. announcing good news with his last

  750. breath. He wasn't crying in defeat. They

  751. beat me. They got me. It's over. But

  752. he's shouting, "Oh, silky silky." Okay,

  753. that's my translation. That's That's

  754. what I say.

  755. This word literally to test it means the

  756. end of one season and the start of

  757. another. It could be used at the end of

  758. a year and starting another year to test

  759. it is finished which means it is

  760. starting. That that's exactly that's

  761. exactly what's going on. It was the

  762. turning point in a person's life. It's

  763. when the old was changed over to new.

  764. The old is gone. The new is here. Jesus

  765. said, "It is finished." New your new

  766. life is here. So, he moved your mess

  767. from today to yesterday. He put a time

  768. stamp on your life. You're no longer

  769. your past. You're no longer how you used

  770. to think. You're no longer how you used

  771. to act. That's over. It is finished.

  772. You're no longer your reputation. You're

  773. more than that. The Old Testament

  774. prophecies are now fulfilled. It's

  775. solid. Now we've got BC and AD. Jesus's

  776. death literally split time down the

  777. middle. Now you've got everything before

  778. Christ and everything after Christ or

  779. like I I like to say before Christ and

  780. after delivered because that's our

  781. testimony in here. You've got a BC

  782. before you knew Jesus. And then after

  783. you said yes to him, you after that

  784. delivered state. We like you in your AD

  785. more than we like you in your BC. I

  786. promise you right now. But this is our

  787. reality. And the distance between God

  788. and man is

  789. gone. When Adam and Eve were in the

  790. Garden of

  791. Eden, the perfect place. Why was it

  792. perfect? It wasn't because the fruit was

  793. great. It wasn't because the animals

  794. were great. It was because God's

  795. presence was there. And man, watch this.

  796. Man walked with God one- on-one, face to

  797. face, talked. Adam and Eve rebelled

  798. against God, sinned. Watch. They were

  799. evicted. When they left, the Bible says

  800. that God put two cherubam

  801. angels. Looks like some of the guys

  802. walking around Free Life Chapel here.

  803. These these the two cher and they've got

  804. a flaming sword standing at the entrance

  805. to the Garden of Eden to block it so

  806. they could never come back. If they

  807. tried to cross it, they would die. You

  808. don't cross a cherub angel. He was the

  809. guardian.

  810. Watch

  811. this.

  812. Jesus is on the cross and he's also

  813. operating as our priest. You see, here's

  814. what's interesting. Those two angels

  815. were also woven into the tapestry of the

  816. veil that went into God's presence in

  817. the holy in the ark of the in in the

  818. temple. So, in other words, to get to

  819. God's presence, you had to the priest

  820. had to go through a veil. And on that

  821. veil were these two angels that were

  822. woven into the tapestry to remind them

  823. of the Garden of Eden. That that was

  824. God's original plan for your life. It

  825. was busted. Now, these angels are here

  826. to remind you that God's presence is

  827. holy and you can't stand his presence

  828. because if I come into contact with God,

  829. I won't be able to handle it. And so the

  830. priest, the only way he was allowed to

  831. go in there and the only day a year is

  832. if he was taking the blood of a

  833. sacrifice in order to sprinkle the blood

  834. and then he would come out and he was

  835. safe. But he had to go through that

  836. veil. You see, here's what I want to

  837. remind you of. When Jesus said, "It is

  838. finished." And the ground shook, the

  839. earthquake hit, the Bible says that the

  840. veil in the temple was ripped from top

  841. to bottom. What was it about that that

  842. wasn't just dramatic? There's a message

  843. inside of that that you and I get to

  844. live it get live out now. Because here's

  845. what happened. When it ripped from top

  846. to bottom, it split the two angels

  847. apart. They were no longer united

  848. together guarding the presence of God as

  849. if they were guarding the perfect Eden

  850. that God had. When the when they when

  851. that the the veil split, then all of a

  852. sudden divine access was given to you

  853. and I. But but Scott, you said if

  854. someone crosses the angels, they've got

  855. to die. Exactly. Jesus crossed in on

  856. your behalf and mine. It killed him, but

  857. it gave divine access to you and I to

  858. recreate our connection, our oneness,

  859. and our unity with God. Ladies and

  860. gentlemen, you are more hooked up than

  861. you understand. In other words, God's

  862. trying to take you back to a place where

  863. you and him are talking face to face,

  864. heartto-heart. I'm for you in your

  865. marriage, and I'm for you at school, and

  866. I'm for you in the dating relationship,

  867. and I'm for you in business, and I'm for

  868. you as a single mama. I'll help you.

  869. You've got divine access to my presence.

  870. All of

  871. this was to keep reminding us who he is

  872. and what he did. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says

    2 Corinthians 5:17

  873. this, "Anyone who belongs to Christ is a

  874. new person. The past is forgotten and

  875. everything is new." Would you stand to

  876. your feet in this room, please?

  877. Shalm to test a

  878. lie. It is

  879. finished. That wasn't a wasn't a cry of

  880. defeat. It was a shout of

  881. victory. It was a shout of we did it.

  882. And now hell is going to pay back

  883. everything it stole from you. I gave it

  884. all to bring us back into covenant

  885. relationship, heart-to-heart, one-

  886. on-one with God. No longer going through

  887. a man, no longer having to perform

  888. rituals. You've got divine access to

  889. him. It is

  890. finished. Sacrifice is

  891. complete. The mission is

  892. accomplished. The dead is gone. And a

  893. new season is here. Does that sound like

  894. good news to anybody other than

  895. me? It took a

  896. cross to accomplish that. Heads bowed

  897. and eyes closed in this

  898. room. If you're here tonight and you

  899. say,

  900. "Scott, maybe you've grown up in church,

  901. been around church for a while, but you

  902. didn't really fully understand what

  903. Jesus did. It hits different. You see

  904. it. I get it, man. for me. And I'm

  905. telling you, yes, for you, especially

  906. for you. And tonight, you say, "I want

  907. to I need to get my heart right with

  908. God. I want to give I want to give Jesus

  909. my life. If he would do all that for me,

  910. how can I not? If he would go all the

  911. way and take my place, I deserve that

  912. cross. I deserve that beating. I deserve

  913. that ridicule. But he took my place. He

  914. did that so I wouldn't have to." That's

  915. exactly what I'm telling you. and he

  916. finished it. So there's nothing you can

  917. add to it. Now live your life full of

  918. him. If you're in this room and you say,

  919. "Scott, I want Jesus in my life. I want

  920. to give him me brand new, fresh, clean.

  921. I'm ready to go hard. I want to just I

  922. want to do what I can to know him,

  923. experience him. I'm going to fail. I

  924. know I'm going to mess up, but I'm I'm

  925. going to keep coming after him. I I want

  926. to know him that way." On the count of

  927. three, if that's you, all heads bowed,

  928. eyes closed, if that's you, on the count

  929. of three, I just want you to shoot your

  930. hand in the air whenever you know,

  931. whenever you're ready. One, two, three.

  932. Right now, shoot that hand in the

  933. air. You can put the hands

  934. down. Heaven took a

  935. picture. Heaven didn't see your hand.

  936. Heaven saw your heart.

  937. Heaven saw you reaching for him. You're

  938. not raising your hand in a room in

  939. Lakeland, Florida. You've got heaven's

  940. full attention right now.

  941. He's excited about this moment with you

  942. because there's something's going to

  943. transpire in this room that we're about

  944. to pray and you're going to go from BC

  945. to AD. Something's about to change in

  946. your life. Everything becomes brand new

  947. from this point on. I want everyone to

  948. pray this prayer. Jesus, Jesus, come

  949. into my heart. Come into my heart.

  950. Forgive me. Forgive me. Change me.

  951. Change me. I believe I believe you died

  952. for me. You died for me. You took my

  953. place. Took my I'm so grateful. I'm so

  954. grateful. I have no way to express it. I

  955. have no way to express it. Except to

  956. give you me. Except to give you me. In

  957. my mess. In my mess. In my failure. I

  958. give it all. I give it all. Come into my

  959. heart. Change me. Forgive me. Forgive

  960. me. Be my savior. Be my savior. I love

  961. you. I love I honor you. I honor you. In

  962. Jesus name. In Jesus name. Amen. Can you

  963. put your hands together in this room for

  964. people? Hands all over this room. hands

  965. all over this

  966. room.

  967. Wow. I'm going to pray for all of us in

  968. this room. But here's what I want to

  969. challenge you. If you raised your hand,

  970. maybe you didn't even raise your hand,

  971. but you you raised your

  972. heart. I want to encourage you to scan

  973. the QR code they're going to put up here

  974. and let us know that you know what, I I

  975. gave Jesus my life tonight. We're not

  976. going to go public with that. We're not

  977. printing it anywhere. We just want to

  978. follow up and just let you know we're

  979. here for you. We love you. We need

  980. community to do this life together. And

  981. that's how you really step in. If you're

  982. if you're serious, you want to go hard,

  983. you want to lean in and really start

  984. taking some steps, we'll help you. We've

  985. got just as many issues as you do. The

  986. person beside you is jacked up. They are

  987. a mess. I'm telling you right now, we we

  988. all got stuff. They ain't nobody got it

  989. all going on. No, there is not. No,

  990. there is not. Starting with the guy

  991. holding the mic right now. We all have

  992. our stuff. That's why we need Jesus.

  993. That's that's why we need Jesus once and

  994. for all. Done. No more sacrifice. He

  995. paid the debt. It's done. And so, but we

  996. do this in community. We walk this out

  997. together. Scan that QR code. Just let us

  998. know. I accept I accept Jesus tonight.

  999. We want to follow up privately with you,

1000. encourage you, love you, and if you

1001. don't want us to follow up anymore, tell

1002. us and we'll stop. We just want to reach

1003. out and connect with you. Now, I want to

1004. pray for all of us in this room. Father,

1005. thank you that we can stand here on this

1006. night that is typically called Good

1007. Friday. And the truth is, we're

1008. overwhelmed by this moment because of

1009. the price that was paid as we look and

1010. we reflect on what Jesus did for us that

1011. we could never do for ourselves. Nobody

1012. in human history has ever done this.

1013. Nobody. Thank you, Jesus, for this price

1014. that you paid and for what we get to

1015. live because of your sacrifice. Tonight,

1016. we give ourselves to you fresh and a new

1017. again. we we open our hearts again and I

1018. ask God that you would remind us of what

1019. your son went through. Jesus, I pray

1020. that that you would remind us through

1021. your spirit as to the price that you

1022. paid for us, the love that you have for

1023. us, that we would feel your love, not

1024. not be mesmerized by a cross, but

1025. because that's over now. We look into

1026. the future and we live out everything

1027. you accomplished on that cross. We are

1028. forgiven. We are free. The debt is gone.

1029. A new season is here. This is the best

1030. time of my life. I've got to keep my

1031. eyes on you so I can experience this

1032. tonight. I say yes to you and your plan

1033. for my life. God, we give you us all

1034. over again. Bless my friends that are in

1035. this room. Lift us to a new level of

1036. understanding who you are that we can

1037. live this abundant life that Jesus

1038. already paid for. In Jesus name we pray.

1039. Everybody said, "Amen." Amen. Amen.

  1040. Amen.

1042. be encouraged? Yeah. Feel free to check
