  1. Welcome to Free Life Chapel, where we

  2. help you discover and live the free life

  3. in Christ. My name is Cotti, and I'm so

  4. glad that you decided to tune in with us

  5. today. If you ever find yourself in the

  6. Central Florida area, come visit us. We

  7. want to see you face to face. But until

  8. then, feel free to visit our website,

  9. freelifechapel.org, to find out more

  10. about what's happening at your church.

  11. There's an amazing message in store just

  12. for you. I hope you're encouraged. Have

  13. you ever had anybody ask you, "What's

  14. your sign?"

  15. You ever been asked that before? Yeah.

  16. And and and anybody like me, you weren't

  17. sure what to answer

  18. them like, "Well, I don't know. I'm just

  19. born on this date." And people who are

  20. into like all of that, like, "Oh, you're

  21. a Libra. I know what you a Cancer. You a

  22. Capricorn. You a Pisces. Smack you in

  23. the mouth. You come." No, no, that's

  24. that's your that's that's like that's

  25. like your on on on this zodiac. I mean,

  26. there's a lot of folks that they they

  27. are into and they know and they they got

  28. that part down and that that's that's

  29. all good. Uh I I I would just say this

  30. in the in the context of astrology and

  31. the zodiac sign uh you we we we those

  32. things are laid out for us to look at.

  33. It's it's very interesting. The the

  34. stars, the universe, uh all that is

  35. created there is definitely impressive.

  36. It's majestic. There's something about

  37. looking up. You ever been looking up at

  38. night and you just saw all that and go,

  39. "What a god. What a God. Yes, sir. I

  40. mean, sincerely, when you look out there

  41. and realize that there are universes

  42. that we have not even touched, we don't

  43. know anything about those those

  44. constellations, those planets, all that.

  45. I I told you a little while back, I got

  46. this app on my phone that I can pull it

  47. up and point it to the sky, and it

  48. starts to show me the different

  49. constellations. Oh, there's Leo. There's

  50. Cap like, and it kind of shows all this.

  51. And and and the way the zodiac works is

  52. there's 12, it's actually called houses.

  53. 12 houses of stars that are around the

  54. earth. And supposedly based on when you

  55. were born, you are identified by that

  56. constellation because it's a certain

  57. time of the year. And based on that,

  58. they now try to tell you that this is

  59. what your mood is going to be today

  60. because of

  61. that and this is what's going to happen

  62. tomorrow because of that and here's what

  63. your future looks like because of that.

  64. And they they a lot of those things, you

  65. know, personality traits. Have you ever

  66. heard some of, "Well, I'm I'm I'm sorry.

  67. I I'm I I just I'm hot-headed. I'm

  68. quick-tempered. I'm just mad because

  69. that's my sign."

  70. Like we we want to blame a lot. And we

  71. actually lean into and lock a lot in on

  72. that. But zodiac signs, fortune cookies,

  73. horoscopes, all of those things, all

  74. those things, we need to be careful with

  75. them. I understand that this the the the

  76. the the universe is majestic. In fact,

  77. the Bible tells us in Psalm 19 and in

  78. Romans chapter 1 that creation, the

    Romans 1 chapter mention

  79. universe are proof of God's reality and

  80. his power, but they are not God. They're

  81. just the work of God, but they are not

  82. God. So, don't worship creation. look

  83. beyond the stars and realize there's a

  84. creator who exists, who oversees it all.

  85. And that's what we lean into. And so, in

  86. other words, your sign is not based on

  87. the stars, but on the one who created

  88. them, who named them, and who stuck them

  89. in their sockets and says, "Stay there

  90. until I let you go." That's that's the

  91. one we lean to. In fact, the book of

  92. Deuteronomy chapter 18 actually tells

    Deuteronomy 18 chapter mention

  93. us, "Do not get into stargazing. Don't

  94. start worshiping what's out there.

  95. Worship the only one and true

  96. God. So what is it then? Where where do

  97. we find this identity? This is where it

  98. comes from. People searching for

  99. something to link their life to. Who am

  100. I? What's the meaning of my life? Where

  101. am I going? What does all of this

  102. sucking air and paying taxes matter?

  103. Well, how how do I figure this out?

  104. People have always been on a search

  105. trying to find where that thing hits.

  106. Why am I here? Romans chapter 6 verse 4

    Romans 6:4

  107. puts it this way. When we were

  108. baptized, we died and were buried with

  109. Christ. We were baptized so that we

  110. would live a new life. Read this. As

  111. Christ was raised to life by the glory

  112. of God the Father. After the third

  113. service today, we're going to celebrate

  114. baptism as people who have given their

  115. life to Christ and they're going public

  116. with their faith and and there's going

  117. to be people that are going to be

  118. completely dry who are going to go under

  119. the water and they're going to get up

  120. wet. So So what's all of that about?

  121. What they're declaring is their old life

  122. is gone and their new identity is

  123. alive. We have over a hundred registered

  124. for baptism today. If you want to come

  125. back and join us for the third service,

  126. pack a lunch. It's going to be great.

  127. It's going to be great. But but but

  128. people who are getting baptized are

  129. literally saying, "My old identity is

  130. gone. My new identity in Christ is here.

  131. The old is done. The new is here." As as

  132. as a believer, please hear me. Jesus is

  133. your new

  134. identity. A a as a Christ follower. uh

  135. you now have a different relevance to

  136. your life than what you ever understood

  137. as a Christ follower. There's meaning,

  138. there's joy, there's a value, there's a

  139. hope, there's an

  140. anchor connected to your faith and your

  141. walk with Christ. And ladies and

  142. gentlemen, let me just tell you this. I

  143. am firmly 100% I believe this after more

  144. than three decades of full-time ministry

  145. studying my Bible. The biggest issue,

  146. the biggest challenge we have in our

  147. lives as Christ followers is actually

  148. buying into the identity of Jesus.

  149. As long as you struggle with who he is,

  150. then you'll never know who you are. And

  151. you will struggle the rest of your life

  152. thinking this Christianity thing doesn't

  153. work for me because I don't understand

  154. the identity, the buy in who he is and

  155. now how I can live because of that.

  156. Bible tells us that Jesus was before he

  157. went into ministry, he was tempted 40

  158. days and 40 nights. Like he ain't eating

  159. anything. There's no food going on. And

  160. in the middle of this temptation, the

  161. enemy comes up and approaches him,

  162. Satan. And he begins to tempt him. The

  163. first thing he tempts him with is was

  164. his was his hunger. He said, 'Yo, Jesus,

  165. you see all these stones? Turn them to

  166. bread. How many believe if he turned it

  167. to bread, it probably would have been

  168. like Kuraba's bread with some oil and

  169. some seasoning beside it like like it

  170. have been that kind of bread. Yeah.

  171. Little dipping thing. Yeah, I know. It

  172. turn turn this to to to to bread. And

  173. and and the second the second

  174. temptation, he comes back again and he

  175. tempts Christ. And and in in both of the

  176. first two temptations, Jesus looks back

  177. at him and says, I I'm sorry. When when

  178. when when Satan was tempting him, here's

  179. how he opened the temptations. If you

  180. are really the son of

  181. God, watch. If you really know your

  182. identity, he was questioning the

  183. identity of Jesus. He was he was pushing

  184. back and trying to cause question as to

  185. Jesus. Do are you really who you say you

  186. are? Are you sure you are who you are?

  187. Creating that that conflict that that

  188. bite. And then in the third temptation,

  189. he tells Jesus, listen, bow down and

  190. worship me and I will give you, in other

  191. words, not just give you stuff, I will

  192. give you

  193. identity. I will give you purpose. I

  194. will be the one who will fashion and

  195. form and give you future. This is what

  196. the enemy was doing with Jesus. And and

  197. and in all of these in all of these

  198. attacks that Jesus went through, the

  199. only response he had in all three

  200. attacks was he looked back at the enemy

  201. and he said, "It is written." In other

  202. words, he started quoting the Bible.

  203. Don't miss this. Don't miss this. When

  204. Jesus's identity was in question, he

  205. went back to the Bible to defend his

  206. identity. He started speaking the word.

  207. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the

  208. greatest weapon, the greatest tool you

  209. will ever have in your life. And you and

  210. I need to commit oursel to a lifetime of

  211. discovering what God's opinion is about

  212. your life. You need to see it through

  213. his eyes. Not through your eyes, not

  214. through your mama's eyes. Not through

  215. cultures eyes. through his eyes because

  216. culture and people and you you will

  217. condemn yourself. You will beat yourself

  218. up. You will damn yourself to hell. But

  219. Jesus keeps showing up with a grace and

  220. a truth and a mercy that keeps elevating

  221. and lifting us back up. We've got to buy

  222. in to what he said. But listen to me.

  223. Here's the key. If the enemy would

  224. attack Jesus's identity, I bet you know

  225. he's going to attack yours as well. That

  226. part. That part. Yeah. You know why?

  227. Because in like the third temptation,

  228. then bow down and worship me. Why does

  229. he want to alter your identity? He wants

  230. your

  231. worship. He wants you to focus on him.

  232. He wants you to let his words become the

  233. greatest in your life. Jesus fought back

  234. with the word and we have to do as well.

  235. See, here's the deal. If you and I are

  236. not careful, pain will define you for

  237. the rest of your life.

  238. You'll be bitter. You'll be angry.

  239. You'll be a victim and you will so

  240. relate and identify with what happened

  241. with you at 10 that you'll be 50 and

  242. you're still living like you're 10.

  243. You've only matured your excuses and

  244. matured your weapons in order to keep

  245. fighting because it's become your

  246. identity. Pain will identify you.

  247. Failure can identify you. You can so

  248. relate and identify with failure that

  249. you stop trying again in the future. I'm

  250. so afraid and I so insulate. I'm so

  251. protecting. I'm never taking a step

  252. again. I'm not trying. You lost your

  253. try. And ladies and gentlemen, the worst

  254. thing you will ever lose in your life is

  255. not a diamond, not a coin, not a house,

  256. not a job. If you lose your try, you've

  257. lost everything.

  258. And the enemy is coming after this.

  259. People and culture will try to define

  260. you. Family will try to define you.

  261. Yeah. Yeah. No, no, no. Let's let's go

  262. here, man. culture. Culture is in a

  263. battle for identity right now. Culture

  264. is scrging for identity. In fact, Gen Z

  265. right now, there's some amazing

  266. statistics. In fact, if you're wondering

  267. who Gen Z is, Gen Z is at the ages 13 to

  268. 28. That's who Gen Z is. Gen Z right

  269. now, here's what the stats are coming

  270. out telling us that there are they have

  271. the highest levels of comparison,

  272. depression, and anxiety because of

  273. what's happening in social media right

  274. now. They are trying to live up to a

  275. standard that has been filtered. It's

  276. had 17 pictures taken and they chose one

  277. out of 17. They they altered, they they

  278. fixed, they aied everything to make it

  279. look and sound great. And now we've got

  280. a culture trying to compete with

  281. something that doesn't even exist.

  282. And they're feeling beat down and

  283. they're feeling less and they're feeling

  284. I don't add up and I'm not worth it and

  285. I'm not worthy. No wonder depression and

  286. anxiety is building because they feel

  287. like they can't keep up with where

  288. culture is going. They're already

  289. failures at 10, 11, 12, 13. There's no

  290. way to get my head above it all. I'm

  291. behind the entire world right now. This

  292. is what's going on in the fight for

  293. identity. This is a real issue because

  294. our kids want to be accepted. Our kids

  295. want to have value. They want to belong.

  296. They want to know that there's meaning

  297. to life. But if that's what it is and I

  298. can't compete, then why even try?

  299. We're all searching for that authentic

  300. self. That watch that image of who am I?

  301. What do I bring to the world? And so

  302. then we lock and load on things like

  303. education. I'll put more initials after

  304. my more letters after my name. We'll

  305. lock in on a career. And that's who I

  306. am. I am the career. And it all works

  307. fine until the company goes belly up and

  308. now you didn't just lose the career, you

  309. lost you.

  310. You see, we we we throw ourselves into

  311. relationships. Maybe you never done this

  312. before, but so there's some that have so

  313. buried themselves in who they're with

  314. that when that doesn't work out, all of

  315. a sudden they are lost. They're gone.

  316. They're a victim because that was their

  317. identity. Uh seeking approval of others.

  318. I I am who I am because of the charity

  319. that I give. I am who I am because of

  320. the money that I have. I am who I am

  321. because of power, because of of sex,

  322. because of possessions, because of my

  323. ethnicity. I I'm so locked in the middle

  324. of my culture. I'm so proud about that

  325. that everything else is gone. No, we are

  326. a we're in a mess. Social media

  327. followers, we're trying to create

  328. identity in all of these things. And

  329. ladies and gentlemen, whatever it is

  330. that you allow to label you will own you

  331. and limit you for the rest of your life.

  332. We've been duped. We drank the Kool-Aid.

  333. And we're going after all kinds of

  334. things, trying to make our mark, make

  335. sure I'm remembered. Who am I? What do I

  336. bring to the table? And ladies and

  337. gentlemen, all of these things are

  338. gutting us. They're not fulfilling us.

  339. Because any identity outside of a

  340. relationship with Jesus Christ will

  341. always lead you to wrong places.

  342. You were not made to identify with

  343. anything or anybody else, only with him.

  344. I'm not saying that we don't enjoy our

  345. careers. I'm not saying that we don't

  346. enjoy education. Of course we do. And we

  347. pursue those things. Celebrate.

  348. Celebrate your ethnicity and your

  349. background and your last name and where

  350. you came from and what people did. Yet

  351. those things are celebration and

  352. praiseworthy. They're just not I'm not

  353. going to have a lid built on my life.

  354. That that is the apex of who I am.

  355. Absolutely not. Because here's the deal.

  356. You don't have time to go in the wrong

  357. direction.

  358. How sad would it be to raise your head

  359. and realize you've been 12 years running

  360. in the wrong

  361. direction because it's happening

  362. everywhere. And whenever we buy into

  363. that kind of mindset, it creates things

  364. where we become mislabeled and we're

  365. misled in life. And no one has time for

  366. that. Ecclesiastes 2:1 says this, by the

    Ecclesiastes 2:1

  367. way, written by the wisest man who ever

  368. lived. So just add that to the verse.

  369. All right. I thought about all that I

  370. had done and how hard I had worked doing

  371. it. Read this. And I realized that it

  372. didn't mean a thing. It was like chasing

  373. the wind of no use at

  374. all. The richest man, the wisest man

  375. running in the wrong direction. It

  376. realizes I have been wrong all this

  377. time. You don't need to live a life that

  378. way.

  379. It's tragic to build a life on something

  380. that is unable to actually provide what

  381. you expected it to give. It came up

  382. empty. There's no lasting success.

  383. There's no satisfaction. This is why we

  384. are looking, applauding, and throwing

  385. awards at people that we think are at

  386. the apex of life and their lives are

  387. completely falling apart. I celebrate

  388. none of that. But it just goes to show

  389. when you get the awards and you hit the

  390. apex of that world, if that's your

  391. identity, it will never be strong enough

  392. to hold you. It will drop you and care

  393. less. That means there must be something

  394. greater to build our life on than just a

  395. career and pursuing an award or what my

  396. last name becomes. There's got to be

  397. something

  398. greater. In the Hebrew language, there's

  399. something really interesting. There is

  400. no verb for the words to have. There's

  401. no verb for it to say that you have

  402. something. It it doesn't exist. Now, now

  403. understand this. Maybe just kind of put

  404. it this way. Uh it it there is there is

  405. something that says basically there is

  406. to me, but it never gives me the chance

  407. to take full possession of something

  408. that doesn't exist. The concept is

  409. there. I have children. The concept is

  410. there. But to me, there are children.

  411. It's not the word of defining

  412. definitively possessing and owning

  413. something. And why do I bring this up?

  414. Because this Hebrew language was what

  415. God initiated life and his word comes

  416. straight out of this. And so the fact

  417. that that nuance is missing actually

  418. speaks to us and gives us a message

  419. behind how you and I are created and why

  420. we are here. Because when it say when we

  421. understand that I never fully actually

  422. possess anything. The message is this.

  423. Everything you have is temporary and it

  424. will leave you.

  425. You possess nothing. Don't believe me?

  426. Have you been to a funeral recently?

  427. They don't rent U-Hauls.

  428. You take nothing with you. When you're

  429. gone, your kids get all that stuff or

  430. the government gets all that stuff if

  431. you didn't set it up right. I mean, like

  432. everyone all that your that that

  433. favorite that favorite hat you got, your

  434. grandkids are going to get that hat.

  435. That purse, that money, that house, that

  436. that it's going to go away. But it's

  437. amazing how people build and work for

  438. decades to build a name and how it is

  439. forgotten within a decade.

  440. Those things, ladies and gentlemen, you

  441. don't own them. You don't possess them.

  442. They don't belong to you. Everything in

  443. your life, we are gripping stuff that

  444. doesn't exist. And we're fighting for

  445. things that you will never control. It

  446. is on the way out of your hand. The

  447. Bible is laying out a principle here

  448. that you and I have got to make sure

  449. that that that we're not fighting for

  450. something that we'll never own, that we

  451. can never have in life. It it ownership,

  452. in other words, is an illusion. So when

  453. you and I are going after things to

  454. create our identity, what you're putting

  455. your hands on is fleeting. You're

  456. grabbing shadows and trying to put them

  457. in your pocket, there is only one thing

  458. that you and I can own in life, and that

  459. is Jesus. 1 Corinthians chapter 6 19

    1 Corinthians 6 chapter mention

  460. says this. You don't belong to yourself.

  461. Isn't that interesting? You don't even

  462. own you.

  463. Not only do you not own everything you

  464. and I are grabbing for homes and money

  465. and degrees and fame and recognition and

  466. all well all that stuff it done. It's

  467. not there. You can't control it. You

  468. can't own it. But the Bible says you

  469. don't even belong to yourself.

  470. life. It's not your

  471. own. That means this, the problems and

  472. the burdens in your life don't belong to

  473. you

  474. either. So why is it that you're

  475. stressed and losing your mind over

  476. problems because you think you own

  477. them and you're trying to own what can't

  478. be owned. And when you're trying to grab

  479. something that you can't put your hands

  480. on, it creates a conflict here. and

  481. worry and anxiety are running through us

  482. trying to control what can't be

  483. controlled. Are y'all hearing me today?

  484. We are living in this illusion of

  485. thinking that we can put it all together

  486. for ourselves. And that is the plot, the

  487. ploy, the the the disillusionment of the

  488. enemy to keep you grabbing at stuff,

  489. keep you occupied, trying to become

  490. something when none of that has anything

  491. to do with why you're here, why you were

  492. created, what God's plan is for your

  493. life. It's all temporary except for one

  494. thing,

  495. Jesus. The only thing you can possess is

  496. actually Jesus. In fact, let me just put

  497. it this way. You have to let go of

  498. everything you can't possess to take

  499. hold of everything he is. Because as

  500. long as I'm trying to get my hands on

  501. stuff, my hands are too full of nothing

  502. to get a hold of him who is everything.

  503. Right? And I've got to make sure that I

  504. begin to look at myself and go, "Scott,

  505. you're wasting your time. This is not

  506. how life is to be lived." Solomon told

  507. us, "It's a waste of time. It's going to

  508. produce nothing in life. Culture is

  509. trying to identify me. I'm trying to

  510. identify myself. I'm in a scramble for

  511. trying to find meaning. Maybe I should

  512. look back to the one who made me, who

  513. decided all of this from the beginning.

  514. Come back to the originator and say,

  515. "Would you please tell me why I'm here

  516. and what is this all about?" Acts

    Acts 17 chapter mention

  517. chapter 17 says this, "In him we live

  518. and move and have our being. I'm fully

  519. alive when I'm in his hands. I'm fully

  520. alive when I'm focused on Jesus. I'm

  521. fully alive and my abilities, my talents

  522. are able to do exponential things." But

  523. all of those things don't define me. He

  524. defines me. And because I'm defined by

  525. him, I can do this without any

  526. reservation. And I live with a joint a

  527. hope that's different because it's not

  528. about who I am. It's about who he is. So

  529. how do I possess my true identity? How

  530. how do I find my true sign? What's my

  531. sign? Matthew 10:39 tells us this. Read

    Matthew 10:39

  532. it with me. Those who try to gain their

  533. own life will lose it. But those who

  534. lose their life for my sake will gain

  535. it. Well,

  536. shoot. That means I got to lose it to

  537. get it. And after I lose it all, I get

  538. it all. Well, that doesn't really sound

  539. appealing to me. Yeah. Because we're

  540. still full of oursel. You're still

  541. grabbing shadows. You're still grabbing

  542. what culture has told you is going to

  543. make you something, is going to give you

  544. something. It's making big promises and

  545. it's coming up empty, y'all. It's going

  546. to come up, keep coming up empty. The

  547. marriage is not going to be enough. The

  548. money is not going to be enough. The

  549. career is not going to be enough. That

  550. third home that you just bought, it's

  551. not going to be enough. The next

  552. vacation, it's not going to be enough.

  553. It's all going to run. It's all going to

  554. leak. It's all going to seep out of your

  555. life. And you're going to keep grabbing

  556. until you realize, "I'm done playing the

  557. game. Jesus, I need you in my life. I'm

  558. giving you all of me. Tell me who I

  559. am. He's the only one. That makes sense.

  560. See, God decided from the beginning and

  561. then revealed to us through Jesus who we

  562. are. He put his image on you according

  563. to Genesis chapter 1. You fearfully and

    Genesis 1 chapter mention

  564. wonderfully made. That means you are bad

  565. to the bone. Would you turn to someone

  566. tell them shock and all, that's who I

  567. am. Shock and all. That's who he made

  568. me. That yes. fearfully and wonderfully

  569. made. You've got an inherent value and

  570. worth. You don't need someone on social

  571. media to qualify or approve your life.

  572. Jesus already has. I'm good. I'm good.

  573. I'm good in the neighborhood. Hey, like

  574. it's all good. I'm in his image. Number

  575. two, he's equipped you and me with

  576. spiritual giftings. Oh, you got it going

  577. on. Yes, you do. And it's it's not

  578. anything you can take credit for. He

  579. pre-wired you with this stuff. You've

  580. got it there so you can live a rich

  581. life. He gave you the power to get

  582. wealth in life. He We live a rich life

  583. and then we serve others with these

  584. giftings. That's why we're here. There's

  585. another one. There's a unique assignment

  586. and purpose on your life. God wrote a

  587. story and put you in it.

  588. The story has your name mentioned.

  589. You're one of the main characters. You

  590. you you got to show up to play your

  591. part.

  592. because he's written into the story.

  593. Your highs, your lows, he's moving you

  594. forward, but he's advancing you in life.

  595. We've got to do it his way. There's a

  596. reason to live. There's a reason to wake

  597. up on a Monday morning and suicide comes

  598. to tell you it's not worth it because

  599. identity is gone. Meaning is gone. I've

  600. lost all hope. Everything is a lie. It

  601. doesn't provide. Why am I here? And

  602. ladies and gentlemen, we need Jesus to

  603. step in and do a work on the inside of

  604. us. Yes, there's emotional things and

  605. there is some challenges we go through

  606. and in and chemical imbalances and we go

  607. to doctors and we get the counselor's

  608. help. That's really important in life.

  609. But we've also got to turn our eyes back

  610. towards Jesus as well and realize he is

  611. the meaning. He's the source. He's the

  612. hope of everything that this life is to

  613. give. There's a mark of ownership he put

  614. on you by Holy Spirit. You've been

  615. sealed Holy Spirit inside. Has anyone

  616. ever felt bad for doing something wrong?

  617. Anybody ever felt bad for doing

  618. something wrong? Now, if the person

  619. beside you did not raise their hand

  620. right now, you got in a situation that

  621. you need to talk to them over lunch. All

  622. right, invite them to lunch. Say, "We

  623. need to talk for a

  624. minute. Do you know why you felt bad for

  625. doing something wrong?" Holy Spirit,

  626. the hound dog from

  627. heaven, he's after

  628. you. He's here to get your attention.

  629. We don't do that. He yanks your chain.

  630. He p Look, Holy Spirit, it's just not

  631. bless me, bless me, bless me. No, it's

  632. correct me, correct me, correct me. He

  633. puts all that together. This is why the

  634. enemy is into identity

  635. theft. Cuz if he can steal your

  636. identity, he will send you down a road

  637. where the bridge is out. Oh, and it's

  638. going to be paid with some fun stuff,

  639. some good stuff. Oh, party.

  640. My followers have gone up a thousand in

  641. the past month. Hey, yeah, the bridge is

  642. out. You keep running. You keep drinking

  643. the Kool-Aid. It's not going to produce

  644. what it's promising. You see, the enemy

  645. is here to strip God's image off your

  646. life. He's here to stop your giftings.

  647. Here, he's here to kill your purpose,

  648. and he's here to make you doubt God's

  649. spirit is even alive in you. The very

  650. things that God came to give us. 2 Peter

  651. chapter 1:4 says this, "God made great

  652. and marvelous promises so his nature."

  653. Ah, his nature, his nature, not mine.

  654. His nature would become part of us. Stop

  655. right there. How many you glad that

  656. Jesus came to change your nature? Like,

  657. I can't use my nature. I was born this

  658. way. It don't wash out in this verse.

  659. Baby, you're going to have to find

  660. another excuse. I don't care what, well,

  661. I'm just I'm just angry. I'm just born

  662. this way. No, you got to take that anger

  663. somewhere else. You can't you can't lay

  664. claim to that. And that's your excuse

  665. for the rest of well my daddy was this

  666. way and Jesus died to change your

  667. nature. So let's work on that right

  668. there. You can't you can't claim I was

  669. born this. No. The Bible says here God

  670. made great and marvelous promises so his

  671. nature would become part of us. Read

  672. this. Then we could escape our evil

  673. desires and the corrupt influences of

  674. this world. When our identity, when our

  675. nature comes from Jesus, watch this. We

  676. begin to live in a daily

  677. victory even over our wrong desires and

  678. the cultural

  679. influences. When I when I begin to

  680. realize who Jesus is in me and I begin

  681. to see what his word says about me, when

  682. I take on his thoughts, let these

  683. thoughts be in you which were also in

  684. Christ Jesus. When I begin to take on

  685. his mind, let this mind be in you. When

  686. I begin to think his thoughts and and

  687. and live according to his ways, all of a

  688. sudden things that used to be my issue

  689. that would hold me down, I start

  690. stepping on top of those issues. I'm

  691. walking different because I'm not

  692. subservient to the issues, I'm now

  693. greater than the issues because my

  694. identity is from one who has conquered

  695. it all. And so I'm living higher. I'm

  696. living stronger. Culture, I love

  697. culture. I love people. I love what's

  698. going on. But I'm not swayed by culture.

  699. Culture doesn't decide my lifestyle.

  700. Culture doesn't change my theology.

  701. Culture doesn't change my family.

  702. Culture I'm solid because one greater

  703. than culture is the one who has defined

  704. my life.

  705. His nature is now my nature. That's the

  706. power of Jesus. That's his work in our

  707. life. And to say that he can't change

  708. it. I begin to live to my nature. We are

  709. now worshiping our nature. My nature is

  710. my identity instead of Christ.

  711. This is the slippery slope we're living

  712. in today. And sad, we're telling people

  713. you can just live any way you want to

  714. and God's okay with it. And it's from

  715. the pit of hell, folks. That's not

  716. Bible. I just gave you a good verse

  717. today. That would be a great tattoo. If

  718. you're looking for another one, this is

  719. why spiritual discipline is important.

  720. Yes, sir. Watch. It's why it's important

  721. you're in church. You know why? Why? Why

  722. it's important today? Because you just

  723. sang songs. What a God. What a God.

  724. You are reminded of his majesty,

  725. of his plan for your life. You're

  726. hearing the word spoken. What are we

  727. doing? We're bringing you back into the

  728. identity, awakening the identity of

  729. Christ inside of you. And until you and

  730. I are showing up, if I'm not praying, if

  731. I'm not spending some time in a

  732. devotional in God's word, all of those

  733. things, giving my my tithe and offering

  734. baptism that's going to happen today,

  735. all of those things are not to put stars

  736. or or put pins on my lapel, but it's to

  737. keep shaping my mind to keep my identity

  738. focused on him. I need all of these

  739. things. Small groups, connect for

  740. serving in church because it keeps

  741. shaping my identity and puts me back on

  742. him. I get Scott off of Scott and I get

  743. Jesus in my heart driving my life. And

  744. that's the safest place, most successful

  745. place, most powerful place, most

  746. peaceful place I will ever live for the

  747. rest of my life. It's been decided ahead

  748. of time.

  749. When Cindy and I came back from Israel,

  750. we went over to, of course, see the

  751. kids. We saw Caleb and Elizabeth also,

  752. but we went over to see Malachi and

  753. Talia. They Caleb, Elizabeth were there,

  754. so we saw them, too. We ordered pizza

  755. and we're over at the house Friday night

  756. and and uh enjoying some time together.

  757. And while Talia's eating, I'm on the

  758. other side of the counter. She's on that

  759. side. And and uh there was there was a

  760. little bag between us. And I start going

  761. Tia. And then I would duck down behind

  762. the bag. And so she picked up really

  763. quickly. Now she wants to play

  764. hideand-seek. So she starts

  765. going and so I would just duck down

  766. behind the counter on the other side.

  767. Tia, she would come climbing down with

  768. pizza all over her face and her hands

  769. and she comes running around the side

  770. and she looked at me and then she would

  771. come running and then she'd give me a

  772. hug and she'd go again again and then

  773. she would go back around. And so we

  774. played again again. My knees are still

  775. sore from the tile. I'm just telling you

  776. right now. It was all that. I I loved it

  777. when Tia found me. But I want you to

  778. understand in the Bible uh that there

  779. there's this there's this place where we

  780. see King Saul is chasing David. It's 21

  781. attempts Saul is making on David's life

  782. trying to kill him. And David is

  783. continually moving. Why was Saul trying

  784. to kill David? Because David had already

  785. been anointed to be the next king. He

  786. had a future that was already God

  787. decided and Saul was trying to kill him.

  788. God. Saul and David were playing hide

  789. and seek in the wilderness. And every

  790. time Saul came this way, God would tell

  791. David, "Keep moving. Go this way." And

  792. so David was always one step ahead of

  793. King Saul. Saul never found David. And

  794. David actually arrived to his point of

  795. destination. But this is why Saul, the

  796. enemy of David, was after him because he

  797. was trying to kill his future. If I can

  798. control him, if I can catch him, if I

  799. can get my hands on him, I will kill

  800. where he's headed. And I want you to

  801. understand the enemy is afraid of your

  802. future. So he brings distractions and

  803. discouragements and tries to derail your

  804. destiny by getting your eyes off of the

  805. mark, off the hope, off the purpose to

  806. what this life is all about to begin

  807. with. And if he can distract you, he

  808. will catch you and kill where God is

  809. trying to take you. But ladies and

  810. gentlemen, as long as your eyes are on

  811. Jesus and I'm listening to what his

  812. spirit is speaking to me about and I'm

  813. connected to his house, nothing is going

  814. to stop where you're headed in life and

  815. you will have everything and then some.

  816. When we surrender to Christ, Holy Spirit

  817. keeps us moving towards our future. And

  818. that means the past can't define you and

  819. it can't kill you. You weren't made to

  820. run from your past for the rest of your

  821. life. You were made to run into your

  822. future. That's why you're here. So now

  823. you can have daily victory over

  824. addiction. Daily victory over fear.

  825. Daily victory over that attitude. Low

  826. self-esteem, guilt, and shame gone. Why?

  827. Because Jesus has already been the one

  828. that defines who I am. He says that

  829. shame died on the cross. I'm not made to

  830. live with shame on my life. But the past

  831. and people always trying to remind me of

  832. where I've been are defining me as

  833. shameful. And if I live down to that

  834. identity, that label controls me. But

  835. when Jesus died, he ripped the label off

  836. and says, "Scott, you're free. I paid

  837. that price. Get the shame off of you

  838. because shame is on me. Take my place

  839. and run, son. This is what he's trying

  840. to do for us. And if we miss it, we will

  841. live feeling defeated as a Christ

  842. follower every day of our life. You I've

  843. got good news for you. You're doing

  844. better than you think you are. You're

  845. winning. Grace is for you. Heaven is on

  846. your side. The promises are yes and amen

  847. according to God's word. You got to

  848. begin to see yourself through his eyes.

  849. Colossians 3:es 2 through3. I'm I'm

  850. finishing. Set your mind on things

  851. above, not on earthly things. For you

  852. died and your life is what?

  853. Hidden in

  854. Christ. It's hidden. It's hidden. That

  855. means when I know who I am in Jesus, the

  856. enemy and culture and life and the past

  857. can reach for me, but it can't find me.

  858. I'm hidden in Christ. That's why I'm

  859. walking on top of things they used to

  860. take me out. And my family is stronger

  861. than the former generation. And I'm not

  862. walking through what they went through.

  863. And I'm I'm not living down to the

  864. standards that they said. I'm living up

  865. to. I'm I'm on the shoulders. I'm

  866. grateful for the price that was paid

  867. behind me, but I'm reaching for more. I

  868. want to dial it up a notch. The best

  869. days are still ahead of me. We begin to

  870. live at this next level, folks. Here's

  871. the

  872. message. Only a surrendered life to

  873. Jesus is going to satisfy your deepest

  874. desires. So, what's your

  875. sign? What's your sign? It's not found

  876. in a zodiac

  877. constellation. It's not found in the New

  878. York Times

  879. horoscope. And it's not in the cookie in

  880. your favorite restaurant.

  881. I'll tell you who you are. Your sign is

  882. the cross of Jesus Christ. That's your

  883. sign. Your identity. You've been

  884. forgiven and you've got a new life. Your

  885. sign now is hope, joy, peace, and a

  886. heart full of laughter. Your sign is a

  887. past that cannot catch you and a future

  888. that cannot be stopped. This is who you

  889. are. Your sign is life and eternity with

  890. Jesus. Would you please stand to your

  891. feet?

  892. Some of you may hear me

  893. now and end up believing me

  894. later, but until you surrender to

  895. Christ, you will never know what

  896. identity actually looks

  897. like. It's kind of like Caleb's analogy

  898. today.

  899. I'm on the bike. If I'm not careful,

  900. I'll think I'm the one doing the

  901. work. When really, he is the one who is

  902. guiding my life, leading and directing.

  903. And ladies and gentlemen, your identity,

  904. who you are, is beyond your pay grade to

  905. decide.

  906. You're too important. You're too

  907. valuable. And you better turn the keys

  908. over to the one who made you and said,

  909. "Let me put my thoughts inside of you so

  910. you'll live up to my promises and not

  911. down to your expectations."

  912. Life gets better from here. Trust me.

  913. So, we get into his word. We worship. We

  914. serve. We do life together. And the more

  915. we do this, the more I begin to take on

  916. who he is. And the mind of Christ sets

  917. me free. Father, we love you today. And

  918. we're so grateful for the promises that

  919. you have in our life. In ourselves,

  920. we're not good. We're not good enough.

  921. But we're taking on your nature. And

  922. despite our failures and despite our our

  923. our our our falling backwards and going

  924. sideways and and getting an attitude

  925. today and having to come back around,

  926. the fact that we're still in

  927. relationship with you and working

  928. towards you is everything because this

  929. this life, my identity is not built on

  930. how good I am, but it's built on the

  931. price you paid on the cross. Today, we

  932. say thank you and we love you, God. All

  933. my friends that are here today, those

  934. watching online, I pray that you stir

  935. their heart and bring a fresh peace and

  936. a rest in us knowing that I don't have

  937. to add up. I don't have to compete. I

  938. don't have to impress. I don't have to

  939. be approved. No, I know who I am. The

  940. image on my life is

  941. you. And since I will seek first your

  942. kingdom and your righteousness,

  943. everything else is going to be added to

  944. me. God, today help us to keep our eyes

  945. on you and experience all that you are

  946. that we can live this abundant life. I

  947. thank you for it today in Jesus name.

  948. Everybody said amen. Amen. Can you put
